Went to pick up Juniper for the first time in 3 months (bc she hasn't pooped in 3 months so I wanted to make sure she wasn't just hiding a poop behind her coils) and GOOD LORD WOMAN. HUGE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's now 1229g (minus all the rats she hasn't passed yet) and I'm starting to see why she's been trying to hunt me everytime I go to change her water lol. Lil 60g rats just aren't enough for her anymore
+ bonus sausage butt after I put her back

i need more help guys what's a good reason I should be allowed to have a snake ???
*I REALLWLSTYJRKKDJDHYYYYY NEED ONE BRO I NEED A PET TO LSITEN TO ME YAP*
I was gonna originally buy a ball python (cause they're less aggressive for a first time snake owner) but I've been recommended to get a corn snake.. idk I think I might stick with my original plan, cause it's more easier. My mom's super fed up with me about my snake begging (it's literally been a ask I ask her ever mornijg and night for three years I'm not joking either this is me being so serious)
Ik how to take care of a snake and what I need to get, plus the diet of the breed I,m planning on getting, ive stated ghe basics like ill take care of it and stuff but idk what other reasons to use 😭

Hey so I just fed my boy and he's been huffing a LOT since. I may be overreacting because I can't find anything on this online but he rarely huffs (he's only done it when I move him when he doesn't want to be even though it's necessary.) And he's huffing LOUD too; he's really quiet about it. I'm on the other side of my room and I can hear him. Is he okay ???
Adding on a few minutes after this was posted: he's opening his mouth too like he's hissing, but it's not that. I don't know what he's doing but this worries me more.

I actually got a bit fired up about python morphs and now have a strong desire to share some videos about ball pythons in no particular order. Hope it will be helpful and/or entertaining!
1) "21 Ball Python Morphs with Problems!" from a ball python breeder Chris Hardwick. [posted 19.02.2020]
youtube
It is a video from a breeder standpoint, so some morphs he lists have problems with breeding but not, well, being a snake (desert ball python, for example).
2) "WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A BALL PYTHON (And where to look)" by Jossers Jungle [posted 15.07.2017]
youtube
General tips of getting a snake from an afab snake enthusiast
3) "Should You Get a Baby or Adult Ball Python?" by GoHerping [posted
youtube
An important question to consider. The owner of the channel is not a breeder, but had/has a reptile rehabilitation place "Emerald scales".
4) "Ball Python, The Best Pet Reptile?" from Clint Reptiles [posted 08.09.2017]
youtube
Ball python rating from snake enthusiast and herpetologist from Utah.
5) "How to Care for Ball Pythons!" by Snake Discovery [posted 11.09.2018]
youtube
Helpful video by snake rehabilitator and breeder. I think she is one of the best snake keepers on YouTube. Definitely recommend to check the whole channel out!
6) "Lethal Ball Python Combos Part 1" by Raphy Martinez [posted 18.04.2011]
youtube
This one... More niche than others, but might be interesting to watch and definitely something I don't want to be lost. The most talkative guy here is Kevin from NERD, considered somewhat of an expert. He appears at New England Reptiles channel, check it out )
7) "PICK THE BEST PET SNAKE - SNAKE CARE GUIDE" by New England Reptiles [posted 25.04.2019]
youtube
The man himself. The legend.

Emergency Surgery $1700!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recently rushed Duke, aka The Duke, to an exotic vet in Columbus, Ohio for some pretty gnarly respiratory symptoms. They took x rays, which showed a large mass around his thyroid, and sent me home with an antibiotics. When the antibiotic didn't work, they sedated Duke and took cultures from his throat, and sent me some new antibiotics--but the results from the thyroid mass are inconclusive, except that it's probably a tumor.
The next step, and not even the last one or a guarantee, is surgery to take a look at his mass/possible enlarged thyroid. Estimated cost for this alone is $1700. I make $1600 a month. I am the ONLY EMPLOYEE for an animal rescue sanctuary. I am salaried at 40 hours a week, period--if I go over, I don't get paid more. And getting a second job would mean dropping out of college. Unfortunately I don't have anything to sell that's worth more than a few bucks.
I can't get a loan or pet insurance because I have zero credit history and my mother is my only family--she couldn't cosign for anything because she is still working on fixing her credit after a long and shitty abusive marriage.
Duke's case is almost UNPRECEDENTED. Thyroid issues are pretty damn rare for snakes. I was prepared to take care of my pet, but this is more than I can handle. I don't have that much in my bank account. The mass is probably the cause of his symptoms. The bacteria he's being treated for is a normal bacteria that should only bother him if something else is wrong. Without removing or at least biopsying the mass, he's probably going to keep wheezing, gurging, and struggling to breathe until it eventually kills him.
I fucking HATE asking people on the internet for money. I work 40 hours a week at my job and the rest of my time goes to classes. I should make enough to take care of things. But surgery fucking isn't cheap. I can eat a lot of the cost. But I just can't afford it all right now. I can't leave him hanging like this for months while I save up.
This guy means the world to me and I HATE seeing him suffer.
I can do tarot readings or small spells in return.
$0/$1000

hey, so, i don't generally like posting about personal things, but i need to step out of my comfort zone to ask for advice
Tumblr media
This is my baby, Nutmeg. She's a 2 year old ball python, and she's a sweetheart.
Last week, my partner's parents kicked us out and told us if we don't have our stuff out by the 31st, they would donate it all to the Salvation Army - which...all three of us are queer and trans, so if that wasn't an intentional jab at us, it is still really hurtful.
We have a place lined up, but they haven't sent us the lease to sign yet and we don't know when they will. We have a storage unit and, if I need to, I can get a hotel to stay in until we've figured it out.
I'm only worried about Nutmeg.
I don't want to even consider leaving her there because those two are neglectful and spiteful to every living thing around them. But I don't know what the best option for her is right now. Should I find someone to keep her until we are able to move? Should I see if a hotel will let me take her with me? Will that all be too stressful for her, or is there a way to make it the least stressful I can?
This is far from an ideal situation, but I love and trust my queer family and know we'll get through this. I just want to make sure we are all taken care of, including Nutmeg.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. 🐍💚

Yeah it is really cool!!! I volunteer on Fridays & Saturdays, I get to spend over 10 hours a week there :-) anyways cool fact: snakes don’t have external ears like humans do but they can hear vibrations through their jawbones!

good, free/cheap (aka subsidized) public transportation systems are just *chef's kiss* mwah so fucking good. disabled? public transportation. poor? public transportation. wanna cut down on personal emissions*? public transportation. need to go for a ride to clear your head? public transportation. bored as a person without a license? hop on a bus or train, baby. visit the city and check out that little ice cream shop you were curious about. take a train out to a rural area and find a nice little spot to sit. hop on the bus and go see your grandma, idk.
the possibilities are literally endless.
*disclaimer ik that personal emissions are high-key bullshit unless you're a celebrity (*cough* taylor swift *cough*) but this is in an ideal hypothetical world where public transportation is subsidized and far-reaching so we can pretend that in this world something like that can make a significant difference. let me be.
