im a big fan of hermitcraft x dsmp crossovers despite my immensely minimal knowledge of hermitcraft (comparatively) because there are really only two ways of doing it: dsmp are the weird ones, or the hermits are the weird ones

MOST of the fics ive read have dsmp as the weird ones. that is, the premise of these fics are "dsmp character escapes from the server, winds up in hermitcraft, learns to heal" because the scale of conflict on hermitcraft vs dsmp is. ridiculously different to the point of hilarity. getting to see one of the benchtrio, who are at MOST 18 years old, look a 30-40 year old established player in the eye and go "oh yeah the reason im not a big fan of elytra rockets and explosions is because of public execution/war crimes/my country got blown up all the way to bedrock in an act of malice/i was brainwashed to explode things in my sleep" and the 30-40 year old established player starts sweating because how do you even approach an issue this ridiculously out of proportion with life is one of many joys in my daily existence

that is to say like. an ENTIRE COUNTRY got BLOWN UP in a WAR. TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SAME COUNTRY. and then the hermits have like. the mycelium resistance. which was resolved with a mini game carnival

YOU SEE THE ABSURDITY HERE RIGHT. the lore differences are soooo funny when dsmp are the weird ones. visibly sweating hermit voice "oh yeah no we. we are all very close friends here actually. we wouldn't do actual war crimes unless it was a joke. sorry did you say you could only die THREE TIMES????"

meanwhile if the hermits are the weird ones it's like. imagine a world where everyone can only die three times (or less if you're hardcore) before you're gone forever. and you know most people live a modest life with a few diamonds, NETHERITE is CRAZY to have, the fact that the dsmp was a war ridden server with many skilled fighters fully decked out (ha) in armor already kind of makes them weird. then they trip and stumble into hermitcraft and it's like. casually there are castles everywhere. entire biomes are clearly terraformed. one of the bases is alive and you have to feed it golden apples. multiple people who revolutionized redstone technology all live within a few days of each other. they not only have access to the end but sometimes farm the dragon. also did i mention they're all IMMORTAL???? AND KILL EACH OTHER FOR FUN?????? AND FLY EVERYWHERE?????? AND ARE THE RICHEST PEOPLE YOU'VE EVER MET??????????? and you thought RANBOO was rich????? you thought TECHNO was efficient at farming?????? ITS REALLY FUNNY

the point is there's a huge disparity in both lore and scale of the two servers and depending on which one you designate as Significantly Strange in the lore it's so so funny to see the other people's reactions

i rarely if ever see the latter example but i think im drawing inspo from one singular post i saw eons and eons ago about how the hermits are The Weird Ones and it's really stuck with me

- “Okay according to this list we need the milk, ours expired, eggs, we don’t have any, chocolate frosting, baking spray, and sprinkles.” Niki informed

“Okay I’ll go get the milk and eggs. Can you go get the baking and decorating stuff?”

You accidentally threw water at Niki after washing your hands

(You know when your hands are wet and you flick them at people? Yeah that but you did it on accident)

Started a water throwing war and completely forgot about the brownies

“OhmygoshNikiIdidnotmeantosplashyouwithwaterohmygoodnessI’msosorryareyouokay?” I spoke quickly

“[Name]!” Niki squealed out “You’re so going to pay for this!” Niki quickly walked over to the kitchen sink turning on the water and wetting her hands

“Niki please don’t do this please, Niki.”

Going back to the brownies you poured the ingredients in a bowl and whisked them all together while Niki preheated the oven and all that other jazz

A playlist you both made together is playing in the background while you bake

You have Niki safety proof the oven (as best as she can without causing a fire) so you don’t burn yourself putting them in

“Please Niki I don’t wish to burn myself then blame it on you cause you didn’t safety proof the oven! No one would believe me, Niki Nihachu refused to safety proof the oven now I have a big burn mark! But, the people see Niki as too sweet and an angel, she would never do this.”

While the brownies are cooking you have a little dance and singing party while cleaning your kitchen

After like thirty minutes you pull out the brownies and let Niki do the decorating

You guys cuddle up and eat them while watching movies!!

You and me both know that alex quackity has a cooking stream past

So when he invited you over to stream, you agreed because you didn’t know what you were gonna be streaming

You got to his house and what do you see? His streaming setup in the kitchen

“Hello. We are doing a cooking stream and you cannot back out of it.”

Poor you man, you did not want to do this cooking stream

It got worst when the stream started

“YO Q! WHY’D YOU SPILL THE FLOUR ALL OVER THE FLOOR?”

You were attempting to make pizza but it was not going well at all

The kitchen was a mess and to top it all off,

“DUDE YOU GOT THE WRONG YEAST! YOU’VE MADE PIZZA ONCE HOW’D YOU MESS IT UP A SECOND TIME?!”

After whipping up the batter(?) and molding the pizza you placed the crust down and decorated the pizza

“Dude who likes Hawaiian pizza?”

“It’s delicious and nutritious.” You defended

After the stream was over and you cleaned up, you had let twitterdotcom know how terrible this was

‘10/10 would NOT recommend making a pizza with quackity. his cooking skills suck and he bought the wrong yeast. also he spilled the FLOUR EVERYWHERE!! pizza was alright. I am still being judged because of my choice in pizzas.’

You called up your local besties, Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo, aka benchtrio, for a fun little baking stream

You told yourself that this would be fun and it would ‘not be any harm to teach your best friends how to cook.’

Boy oh boy were you wrong

First few minutes of the stream were good until tommy and tubbo learned how to use the oven

“Tom look, fire.”

“Ranboo look. Fire.”

“Chat look. Tubzo and I discovered fire.”

It was mostly you and Ranboo making the cake until the decorating part came

You had lost Ranboo and had become, as chat calls it, the only remaining braincell to hold benchtrio together

“Not great I’ll tell you that.”

After getting Ranboo to stop putting gallons on gallons of frosting on the cake and tubbo and tommy to stop playing with fire did it go better

You spent most of the stream trying to calm the boys than actually baking the cake

The cake didn’t turn out half bad

“This cake is delicious. You’re all so lucky I helped make this cake.”

“Tom, you didn’t even help you and tubbo were obsessed with the fire.”

“I’ve blessed this cake with my manliness.”

The process of the cake making is a whole other, messy story.

I'm so sorry this took so long, my browser crashed like half way thru and it didn't save, lmao!

anyway, so i think it's mostly canon that cranboo has a problem with thinking he knows better about what's the morally or just generally best thing to do in any scenario. but with him hating conflict, i think most of the time he'd just kinda go behind people's backs to do whatever he thought needed to be done. that was kinda where his enderwalk arc was going (i assume), and while it wasn't super overt, it's definitely noticable if you pay attention.

but there is a limit to how much stuff you can do behind people's backs, especially when it comes to concerns about their health / well-being. it's usually easy to sneak medicine or veggies into your kid's food. it's NOT easy to sneakily bundle them in five layers of clothes so they don't freeze when they go outside. so, bribes.

with michael, it's super easy to bribe him, cause ya know, he's a toddler. you just say, 'hey, if you wear a hat you can have extra dessert,' and usually it works. and i mean, sometimes you just gotta bribe a child. they're not really mentally matured enough to reason with.

with tubbo and tommy, i don't think he's super obvious about it? if anything, it's kinda more like guilt tripping? like instead of being like, 'I'll give you emeralds if you eat some food,' it's more, 'oh, you're too busy for dinner? 😔 that's a shame, i just made this really good soup just for you 😔.'

and i don't think any of the three of them really realize that that's not the best way to communicate. i talked about it a little bit in the other post, but with tubbo's love language being acts of service, i think he'd be like, 'ah, husband is sad so if i do this thing for him then he'll cheer up.' and with tommy, it's more the tone of it that gets to him. and he doesn't really know how to place what is it that makes that technique work on him, but i think the guilt tripping would work super well on getting him to do stuff.

and since cranboo is/was working with dream, i think that's where he picked it up from, since dream also did that kinda stuff to tommy during exile. and benchtrio is too young / inexperienced with communication to really get that anything's wrong, cause they all think it's normal to some degree.

so like overall i don't think it's like anything relationship breaking, but yeah. subtly manipulating your friends / family is definitely not the best way to get them to do that but they're young, so they have time to learn better

tommy loved saturday.

one, it meant he was off school. school was a fucking hell system designed to tear out the individuality of kids and turn them into little worker drones- at least, that was what wil reckoned, and wil was probably the smartest person in town by account of haunting the shit out of everyone over the past few centuries, so tommy believed him. besides, he struggled to sit still for long enough to write, and tubbo couldn’t read the words, so they spent most of their time staring at each other in detention anyway.

but that wasn’t the main reason. the two of them skived off school half the time, though in their defence it’s kind of hard to go when you’ve got seven government conspiracies, three independent mad scientists, several different types of aliens, at least one fae court, and whatever the fuck sam was on your tail 24/7. honestly, being kidnapped by half of them was probably better than an english lesson where the teachers shouted at him for writing in the proper british way he was taught instead of suddenly switching to the dumb american shitty way. his organs might have been rearranged last time he'd gotten abducted by a flying saucer, but at least that meant he looked cool on x-rays.

no, the real reason saturday was great was that saturday was arcade day.

if tommy wasn’t religious, he'd call the local arcade his church, but that felt disrespectful to Her Lady Prime (though, considering the amount of gods he'd met in sleepy l'manberg he was convinced that there was probably enough gods in oregon every video arcade had one). still, he approached the day phil would drop off him and tubbo at the doors for a whole day with reverence, and as the man who was not his father (he actually wanted him) dropped them off, he handed them enough coins for an extra with a wink.

that was another reason tommy loved saturday. school didn’t really accept local cryptids, unfortunately, but with a mask, hat, and a long enough skirt, ranboo could blend in as a weirdo teenager instead of a local nightmare. besides, he liked the flashing lights.

ranboo was in first, as always, and rushed tommy and tubbo into a big, big hug the second they entered the doors. he knew when phil dropped them off, and had started waiting to ambush them.

“ugh, gross, man,” tommy said, not sounding annoyed at all. “we're twelve now. too old for little kid cuddles.”

“why?” ranboo’s voice had a vibration to it like an insect. it made tommy feel comforted.

“because you get beat up if you're weird, y’know!” tommy flushed. “i don’t wanna get beat up, fucker.”

tubbo raised an eyebrow. “tommy, have you met a normal person in this town?”

“well, no-“

“there. look, are we going to play some pac-man or not?”

“ugh, no!” tommy said, giggling as he pushed the other boys away. “pac-man is so uncool. now, frogger? that, man, is truly radical.”

ranboo blinked. “what’s a radical?”

“it’s just one of tommy's weird big kid terms, boo.” tubbo said, ribbing ranboo and grinning at the disgusted face tommy made. tommy didn’t have any issues with, y’know, those sort of people. people who got mad at boys kissing boys were stupid. the issue was that tubbo was far too young to be flirting with anyone. that stuff was gross. “he just wants to be cool, y’know. that’s why he’s got that stupid mullet.”

“mullets are so cool, fuck you,” tommy said, sticking out his tongue in a not at all childish way. “anyway, now are you two gonna go all K-I-S-S-I-N-G, or will you- oh my Prime, what the fuck is that?”

every machine in the building was empty of players. all except one, a blank looking cabinet, which had a line that looked a million billion miles long.

ranboo raised an eyebrow. “good game, i guess?”

“no game is that good. not even frogger.” tommy shook his head. “that’s like… remember when that fucking weird government dude had all those pills and shit? that made you all fuzzy and do what they say?”

tubbo gasped. “you can’t say that, tom! you know he has memory issues. stop being a dick.”

“fine! sorry.” tommy threw his hands up in frustration. “but anyway, you see that blank fucking stare on their face? well, most of there’s, purpled seems fine but he's got the whole being not human thing going. that’s the look ranboo had when that dream fucker gave him the pills. that’s mind control, innit?”

“don’t remind me of dream,” ranboo said, growling.

“oh, yeah. sorry man.”

“anyway… do you think that might be involved? if it’s to do with governments… i'd rather not get cut up by a lab, thank you. we need to stop it.”

“chill out, ranboo, being cut up isn’t even that bad if they give you proper painkillers and shit,” tommy said, ignoring the weird stares ranboo gave him because of that. “besides, y’know i'll never say no to uncovering some secret truth. it’s almost as fun as frogger. tubbo?” tommy paused, turning to his other best friend. “uh, tubbo?”

there was a far away, dreamy look in tubbo’s eyes. not those of brainwashing, but desire. “i want to take that thing apart,” tubbo said, sounding overjoyed. “i need it. i need that beauty so bad.”

well. it was better than the barrels of radioactive material he'd seen tubbo carry into the shed. tommy couldn’t deny that. “then, let’s go figure shit out, then.”

Takes place during Pogtopia arc

“They’re the Sourpatch kids”

That’s yours guys’s nickname

You, Tommy, Ranboo, and Tubbo. You four where known as the sour patch kids around the SMP, where ever you four walked, chaos followed.

During Pogtopia you four where closer than ever, well- more like three. Ranboo never liked the idea of choosing sides, he chose people over everything so getting him to stick with you guys in the Ravine was troubling, but that wouldn’t stop the frequent visits that would last hours! Hell even some days!

It was a gloomy day, the clouds gloomed blocking the sun and instead shown rain, this was also one of the days The Beloved Ranboo stayed in the Ravine causing chaos with the other three children- well more like Tommy and Y/n who would cause chaos, sometimes Tubbo would join.

Luckily no one was needed in Shlatts office, that ment pure preparation. And by that I mean, Potato farming, Weapon creation, and Armour creation.

“Smell ya later losers!” Tubbo shouted at the chasing three “Who the fuck says that anymore?!” Y/n retorted with a confused glare, They where the most chill of the group, the kinda ‘I just go with the flow but know where to have my input’ kinda person, but even though they where pretty chill it didn’t stop the pure chaos the held.

Currently the four of them + Techno where sent out to collect “Blazerods, Netherite, and enderpearls.” Ranboo called out reading the list Niki and Wilbur wrote down.

Technoblade had eventually left the four to fend for themselves as their troublesome cause one-to-many headaches, so he left them like any other good ‘big brother’ would.

“Let’s get the Blazerods first, Techno said he’d handle the Netherite.” Tubbo called gathering collective nods to his statement, and with that the four headed to the Fortress to achieve their first item.

“WAAH THAT WAS TOO CLOSE” Tommy screamed to the fire that was just inches away from burning him, Y/n ran in ad they sliced down hitting the blaze perfectly to achieve 2 blaze rods, “That’s 17” the Monotonly mumbled throwing the rods to Ranboo who held them collectively.

Tubbo was quick to double back slicing one Blaze upward and moving on to another which was readying a fireball towards him, luckily Y/n was there to save him, shoving their Enchanted Netherite sword into the blaze, cutting off the attack that was about to commence. “21.” Y/n Smiled

Now collecting pearls wasn’t much easier

Especially when you have a Enderman with you.

Luckily you four ran into Technoblade who was just moving onto another area, Tommy explained to him on how they need to abandon Ranboo to slay endermen. Techno was ok with taking the Hybrid with him aslong was no trouble followed. And with that it was just you with Tommy and Tubbo.

A small one block indent was made into the ground, with a hovering roof, of course a gap to attract enderman, this was perfect cause you could attract and kill! Perfect- well that’s how it WAS supposed to be, until you got into a little predicament

“This was smart Tommy!” Tubbo complimented Tommy’s plan to kill the endermen “I know.” He simply replied with a smug smirk “I don’t know if I should let you be a Narcissistic bitch or make you shut up..” Y/n dead panned “HEY DONT CALL BE THAT BITCH!” Tommy yelled earning a annoyed eye roll.

“I’m gonna go attract more endermen” You called crawling out of the trench.

Wandering around trying to find the Purple eyed monsters, you more or less met eyes with a boar, well- a Hoglin.. In to which it hated people who didn’t wear the signature gold armour, and to your distaste no gold was found on your figure, a loud roar was heard from the beast catching the attention of the to boys who where fighting over the stupidest shit.

“Fuuuuck mee..” you mumbled before the Hoglin came charging at you with an astonishing speed catching your dodge and smashing you up against a tree. That didn’t block your agitated sound as you felt a rough a sharp pain enter your abdomen and a Metallic taste filled your mouth, now when I mentioned the two boys they recognized the loud roar the erupted the beast

So now wandering through the forest- more like running they found your- hurt- fragile state as for some reason the boat left you to die “Y/n!” Tommy and Tubbo shouted picking you up to hold you up, your arms instinctively wrapped around their shoulders as you greeted your friends.

“OMG Y/N ARE YOU OK WHAT HAPPENED ARE YOU HURT!?” Niki screamed when she saw you limping with your S/c arms wrapped around your best friends shoulders.

“Yeah.- just took a little hit- nothing much..” you laughed as you tried to ignore the constant stabbing pain that you felt everytime you spoke up. You where put down on a seat with Wilbur coming to you, handing Niki medical bag, she was quick to check your wounds as the other three kids surrounded you with worry repelling off of them.

“…guys don’t worry. It’s just a scratch.”

“BITCH YOU GOT STABBED”

“I was worried, Y/n!”

“Watching you get back with a wound worries me Y/n..”

But since the other two are season based, you combine the past seasons ideas and characters. For example: Wither Rose Alliance but Gem has fire/sun related powers (but still a giant hat).

Either way, new time vigilantes Benchtrio are trying to make a name for themselves in this 'hero' business. They are surrounded by major power groups like the Wither Rose Alliance, Boatem, Dream Team, The Syndicate, Octagon, Codfather Alliance, and a bunch more.

Also others like Hotguy and Cuteguy, The Copper King, The Three G's (Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss), Soup Group, Renchanting, etc.

Yes, they cross team, who cares? It makes it funnier. The public isn't for sure, but they speculate.

Either way, each group own a massive district(s) each which reflect the server they are from and the style that comes with it. For example, Boatem has the combined styles of Boatem in HCS8.

Scar, Ren, Eret, Wilbur, and Schlatt or competing for President? Mayor? King? Leader? We aren't sure.

There is an Anarchy Organization run by Techno with the disguise of a book club. Grian joins.

Jimmy ends up dying (eventually respawning) and sets off a massive chain of events (classic canary)

Every month a bunch of them come together to play MCC under neutral ground.

if I ever see someone stroll in with a fake sword looking like Luz Noceda from Owl house I'd would laugh in your face, no offense.

most likely then not he'll give you fighting lessons, he's the type to sit you down like its a school lecture and teach you the 'old school style'.

meaning from a 1,000 year old book he picked up on the other side of the world.

if you had to battle with someone twice your size he'd most likely be hiding in the trees somewhere, waiting for you to give him the hint that you're losing the battle.

if you're too stubborn to call it quits, and he can tell that you're losing severely, he'll swoop in without a second thought and finish the fight for you.

overall he has a very caring personality and would do anything to make sure you can protect yourself.

TECHNOBLADE;

believe me when I say you'll be carrying potions that will make you weigh 10 times more then you do now.

like I'm talking about your pockets, sleeves, socks, shoes, and your hair will be filled with them in secret compartments.

he always make sure you have atleast 5 totem of undyings in your inventory.

you always ask where he gets them from and he'll just look at you, blink and slowly back out the room.

you'd ask phil and he'll just shake his head and say "it's best you didn't know."

anyway, he'll find a way to make a netherite sword light for you because he will NOT let you walk around with a wooden sword.

makes sures everything you own is maxed out in enchantments.

potion wise he put EVERYTHING he could find into one potion. just drinking it alone without any armor would most likely make you the strongest person in the server.

he knows you can take your opponents but would still give you a 30 day bootcamp on fighting.

you'll be wishing you never took up pvp in the first place.

this man is relentless.

like I'm talking your arms, legs and back would be black and blue from the constant fighting.

sure it'll help in the long run but you got both mentally and psychically exhausted that you just passed out. (fic coming based off this soon?)

he'd give you a break but all this payed off in the long run because you were able to master a lot of thing you couldn't have ever done before.

like phil, he'd mostly be in your ear, watching from afar, telling when to strike and how.

you know ratatuoe (I'm not even going to begin on spelling ts right) where the rat is in the guys ear helping him cook?

that's you and techno except he's not pulling your hair controlling you..

yeah okay anyway, he'd make you the most feared person despite your size, you were walking proof that even if you're small you can do anything you put your mind to.

and hey, dream and his goons are kinda-somewhat, scared of you now.

to be honest for him I'm not really sure what he'd do.

like, do i want to go for the sweet, caring friend road or the gremlin, "who cares" mentality, evil road?

for the sake of this I'll do the first.

OKAY, he doesn't really know anything about potions (or poison pick your word they're the same) except for the stuff he made in wilburs van those days ago.

do the research needed to figure out what potions did what and how long they lasted for.

knowing him he most likely mixed a invisibility and a strength potion together and blew up Philzas' lab area, later blaming it on Techno.

though he couldn't fight himself he would do his best to teach you from the things he saw during war times, mixing in what techno taught him those years ago.

and although he is kinda rusty, his tactics worked well and you incorporated it with the stuff you already knew.

he was very taken aback by how badass you were.

he never knew someone so tiny and couldn't even open a pickle jar could fight a grown ass, 6'1 man with just leather armor.

would use you as a lab rat for his work-in-progress potions.

he'd hand you the most revolting thing.

I'm talking about mold, green goup, spiders eye, bamboo ass shit in a tiny glass bottle.

thank god for your immunity to poison because that looked radioactive.

"so? how does it taste?" he asks, lifting up the protective googles that started fogging up from the humidity in the room.

you swallowed the rest of it, placing the now empty bottle on the table. watching as he watched you expectantly. you swished the slug in your mouth and held your breath. the taste was something indescribable.

as you went to talk a hiccup came out instead, it came out green. you smiled at him, waving your hand in-front of your face. "well, I don't feel like dying-" another hiccup cuts you off, this time along with the sudden impulse to smash a book on the table.

you reached for the book and tommy watches you in awe, nothing about your psychical form changed but as the book collided with the ground and everything broke into pieces, tommy knew he had accidently created a ultra potion of strength.

it only took 7 minutes to wear off but in those minutes everything around you were either across the room or demolished.

he is very helpful but at the same time very risky. so if you ever choose him to help -or he chooses you- just take the safety percussions necessary.

RANBOO;

you really think that he is going to even touch a potion?

this man is afraid of EVERYTHING

would watch from behind you as you cooked something up.

if you even asked if he wanted to help he'd give you the most deadpanneded look and straight out tell you no.

he wouldn’t help you make them but he sure as hell would get you the supplies you needed when you ran out.

he knows that they are vital for your fighting because of your small stature so he makes sure nothing is missing and no one is bothering you while your working.

though he can’t provide much, he is great at finding ender pearls which he gives to you.

he doesn’t know what it could be used for but he thinks it’s a nice little gift.

ranboo being half ender man means that he hoards a lot of stuff so whenever you need you’ll go to his little house and take whatever you need.

9 times out of 10 there would be some really messed up stuff that he said he just “found lying around” but we all know that that’s probably not true.

he looks up to you (even though he should be looking down) because of how confident you are despite your size and weakness

He likes that you use it to your advantage and asks you to help him get the confidence that he needs.

if you ever need help during a fight just whistle- which is a signal that you need help- and ranboo will teleport to you and swoop you up.

he is very helpful despite being afraid of a lot of things.

TUBBO;

the both of you are pretty short so he can understand why you use poison to knock your opponents down.

is all for it to be honest, tells you to rest while he tries some things out.

like tommy he will put the most horrendous shit in it but will cover the smell up with berries and purple dye.

he tries to stay away from fighting, having a bad past with it and all but he will definitely sit on the sidelines and watch as you try and practice.

assures you that he will always stick by your side, in battle and out.

though he doesn't have any practice in pvp except for the wars he doesn't really have any tips and tricks. but is happy to help you come up with new strategies.

is very adamant about you not overworking yourself, will make you carry around extra potions of strength to make you heal faster.

you have this little book filled with recipes of different poisons you created over time and some times tubbo finds himself marveling over the things you've created.
