Magical ghost grandma, a stubborn princess, and a coal miner’s son team up with the power of song to defeat some truly terrifying goblins (and their evil monster pets). The animation is gorgeous and the backgrounds are beautiful. It’s also all hand drawn.
I just want to tell everyone to watch Birdboy: The Forgotten Children
It's a Spanish animated movie from 2015, and it's extremely good. I can summarize the plot as "What if Jeff Vandermeer made an Animal Crossing game?" It's about an island where the factory exposed, leaving most of it wreaked and the inhabitants struggling to survive. The titular Birdboy is a young man who is trying to grow trees on the island while dealing with the PTSD caused by his father's death. There's heavy focus on the environment and mental health, along with trug use and trauma.
The movie is R rated due to violence and drugs, but it never feels like "we're a cartoon for grownups! Time to be EDGY!" The artistry and animation are also super good. It can be bought on Youtube and I think it's also streaming on Shutter. It's also made by a smaller studio, and it's important to support those.
Drawing them so I can be brave enough to watch the movie for a second time 😰
Stories like Birdboy change you as a person, they are personal stories with so much heart that everything becomes real to you, I hope one day I can put so much of myself into something that it breathes like birdboy dose
It makes me kinda sad that everyone knows and talks about unicorn wars, but almost no one has ever watched birdboy: the forgotten children.
If any of my followers is interested in watching birdboy, I'm going to find some website to download the movie, and I'll upload it to my Google drive so you guys can watch it. But please, if you can watch it legally, do it.
I love that more people are getting into Unicorn Wars, but Birdboy is so underrated. It's a lot more weirder and uses more symbolism than Unicorn Wars, but it's still a really thoughtful, complex, beautiful film that I would recommend to anyone I know.
