My essay on them

Before I go into this, I'm placing a trigger warning for talk of abortion/miscarriage, transphobia, and suicide.

I'm not going to get into how they met because that's rather self-explanitory.

Their relationship

They fell almost instantly for one another, which caught them off guard with the realization that both of them loved women. Grelle's attraction to men had been not truly based in actual romance, rather a misconception of pain and mistreatment being love. She still likes men and probably would for the right reasons if one would actually treat her right. With Angelina, she definitely had genuine love for men, but didn't even consider women an option until she met Grelle.

They didn't begin dating immediately even though they were both already in love, they took it a bit slow. Grelle didn't move in fully with Angelina, but she spent a lot of time there, barely flying under the radar of her superiors.

Angelina pitched the idea of the butler disguise to keep from arousing suspicion of Grelle's presence. Grelle protested at first but eventually gave in and began to see it more as acting (though she still disliked being misgendered).

Her being bad at housework was comically played up, but she was actually bad at a lot of domestic tasks.

They had several romantic dinners in candelight, spending evenings talking by the fireplace with glasses of red wine and laughing upon realizing the sun had started to rise, slowly falling deeper and deeper in love.

Grelle was enamoured with how passionate Anglelina was in her work in the medical field, and her bloodlust. Grelle had never viewed death in the way that Angelina did in terms of losing her child. She had never dealt with or met someone who was forced to miscarry and grew to understood her rage at a denied motherhood. She didn't see it purely as an opportunity to kill, but that was an added plus. She felt truly safe and accepted as a queer and trans woman, even enough to talk about why she killed herself all those years ago. This was a love that Grelle never imagined having in life, and certainly not after death.

Angelina had finally found a new reason to love the colour red. She admired Grelle for being true to herself and being out as a woman. She had never met someone as eccentric as this before, a breath of fresh air, a new kind of love. She felt sympathy for the transphobia and depression Grelle experienced in life and reassured her that she is indeed worthy of love and compassion. Grelle also showed sympathy for the loss of Angelina's family, her husband, her unborn child, and grief of Ciel's presumed death. She had tried loving so many people, only to lose almost all of them. She even lost Ciel in a way due to him being "different" upon his return to the manor with Sebastian in toe. Almost everything Grelle showed was new to her, and it was wonderful. Angelina was happy to help Grelle learn how to perform femininity with things like makeup, hair care, clothing, and vocal training. It was a way to compensate for not having a daughter to teach these things to. When it came to the killings, she felt understood in her actions. She got a bit of a laugh about Grelle dolling the women up before killing them even though it was a bit of a risky use of time. Having a grim reaper help you release your rage at the universe is understandably very liberating. The murders played a part in their relationship, but their love was so much more than that, Angelina truly felt that she had finally found love that would last.

Angelina's death and how it affected Grelle

Grelle's muder of Angelina was impulsive. In a clear state of mind, Grelle would have never dreamt of killing her love. When she saw Angelina crack, she started to panic internally. "What if she was actually weak willed? What if she was being lied to? We're going to be found out now due to witnesses." And the most natural instinct was to kill her. The adrenaline rush of murder, tied with revealing herself and fighting with Sebastian kept her from breaking down and truly realizing what she had done. She actually cracked a bit when viewing her cinematic record, turning away and stifling a slight sob when she saw their relationship through the eyes of her lover. But then diving back into the fight distracted her.

After returning to headquarters, Grelle truly began to realize what she had done. She robbed herself of love and happiness out of an impulse. She donned a different disguise and attended Angelina's funeral, she was in hysterics when Ciel brought the red dress to replace her white one. Afterwards, she was sick for weeks and refused to work, William was up her ass the whole time despite Ronald's attempts to get him to lighten up on her. Even after the sickness faded, she fell into a depression, her work definitely suffered and she got in trouble several times with William and some other higher-ups. She had to eventually plow through overtime work which helped distract her from her grief. Ronald stuck close to her when he could, trying to cheer her up with sweets and some clothing, but she always refused to replace her red coat.

Grelle never truly stopped grieving, she would always feel a twinge of guilt upon seeing Ciel, knowing now that she had deprived him of one of his last remaining family members. She still saw him as a little brat, but she didn't truly hate or dislike him. She would even begin to see the fighting as playful rather than out of malice, hoping that Ciel would see her true intent and exactly who his aunt was to her.
