Thelreads, Vigilantes 68, Replies Part 2
1) “Now, I do respect Makoto, I prefer characters that go after what they want, even more when its on the topic of romance. She knows what Pop feels, but she also feels the same, and if Pop won`t do something then she will. She`s not trying to backstab or betray her, she`s just going after what she wants. She`s not a fucking tsundere after all.”-The equivalent of the gentleman’s duel in romantic relationships. No foul play, but Makoto’s not afraid to escalate the situation and make her intentions known outright, not to mention willing to let the opponent have a fair and equal chance of beating them in honourable combat for the maiden- er, I mean, the man’s hand.
2) “Oh wait, the talk is already over? What? We`re only halfway through the chapter!”- Now it’s time for the other half to focus on the arc’s main POV protagonist as she deals with the fallout of these surprise twists in private.
3) “This fucking dork, I love him. And Makoto, well… Let it be known I like her better, she goes after her heart, she could`ve easily snatched Koichi for herself there, but even so she gave Pop a chance. She was not lying when she said she was fond of Pop, she really wants no hard feelings to be after this is all over.”- If you want something, fight for it. If you care about someone, fight for them fairly.
4) “Own, Makoto, that was cute, you were really nervous as well, even if you kept a poker face throughout all of it.”- Her experiences in interviews served her well.
5) “Now she knows where things stand, she knows there`s no turning back. Makoto put her on check, she can either run away or counterattack, either way the game will be over come next move.”- Just yesterday her world seemed so stable. Now everything’s changed and there’s no going back to where they used to be, and Pop can either get swept along or change and adapt with the flow.
6) “Oh boy, already Koichi? Not even gonna give some room for breathing?”- Oh he’s giving her plenty of room and time to breath it’s just that Pop’s intentionally holding her breath until she gets it right and keeps holding on to that even as she starts turning blue…
7) “YOU CAN`T RUN AWAY FOREVER POP-
WELL, YOU CAN, BUT THAT WAY YOU`LL LOSE. ONLY FAILURE AWAITS THOSE THAT TURN THEIR BACKS TO THEIR FATES!”- At least by chapter’s end she’s stopped running away, but at the same time, she’s still not made her mind up about where to start running to.
8) “Jesus fucking Christ Pop-“- Pop has rejected Koichi’s moment of romantic inquiry like Anya rejected Nightfall as her mama.
9) “YEAH POP, IT WON`T, BUT THAT WAS NOT RUNNING AWAY, THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH SAYING NO TO HIM. ALSO, IS THAT THE HOODIE?”- When she’s stumbling about through the storm of her emotions, she turns to the hoodie to give her a rock of security to brace herself against.
10) “What, gonna give him a letter? Now that might work, you just leave it on his table and run back home, he`ll call you afterwards to say what he feels. Do it Pop, go old school and write a sonnet, whatever you want, as long as you do it.”- I think her angry reactions are because she want to be the instigator in this question about their relationship, she wants to ask Koichi herself, but every time she winds up to start writing the letter she wants to give to him, he just comes forward with trying to start the more straightforward solution of asking her directly, which she’s not ready for, so she starts spiralling backwards again.
11) “POP PLEASE EVEN IF THIS IS JUST TRAINING YOU SHOULDN`T BE GOING “I KNOW YOU HAVE BETTER OPTIONS” TO THE PERSON YOU LIKE. JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE, “I KNOW SHE`S BEAUTIFUL AND SMART, BUT I HAVE LOVED YOU FOR ALMOST TEN YEARS” IS A GOOD WAY TO START, YOU KNOW?”- Pop’s insecurities and self-consciousness are almost a match for Izuku’s. Thank god he’s got all that life-threatening danger to distract him from similar romantic pitfalls with Uraraka.
12) “Also, she did write “body for days” lmao. Alright Pop, I know you think little of yourself, but c`mon, that`s not what romance is about, its not about who`s better looking or whatever, its who you like the most, and if you tell Koichi the truth about your feelings I have a feeling he`ll start seeing you in the same light.”- Though this also implies that Pop has body-image issues and doesn’t really consider any part of herself appealing or good-looking, which is kinda tragic with how many people used to come watch her shows to get a look at her butt in the early days. Pop really can’t see that she does have attractive qualities about herself that are hers alone, and stand apart in comparison to makoto.
13) “Pop please, she might`ve set up the stage, but even so you guys kept it running for over two years. That wasn`t because of her, that was all you, you did that. Even if things are coming to an end, that`s only natural, it`s not your fault, even Makoto wouldn`t be able to salvage it.”- Pop put in the hard work and effort to keep it going, but in a sense she didn’t create anything of her own during that time, she didn’t innovate or carve her own path like Makoto did and forge a career separate from the Narufest, using it as a springboard to move forward with the rest of her life, and now pop’s realising that she’s gotten too complacent about everything and what matters most to her might be slipping away.
14) “She wasn`t afraid to make illegal street shows on her own, she was the one to approach Koichi, hell she even tried to pretend to be his girlfriend, why is just telling the truth so terrifying? Because the answer might be something she doesn`t want to hear? Well, she wasn`t afraid to find out the answer those other times, and even if she was, she tried it anyway, so, why can`t she do the same here?”- Growing up and maturing means realising that some of the things you thought were so big and terrifying before were really just small problems that didn’t hurt you that much, and if they weren’t so bad, what do you have to fear from the ‘what if’ of the future?
15) “Oh my god that`s adorable- C`mon Pop, your kid self was incredibly cool, she was going around singing in public, you know how much guts you need to do that? She was badass, you should respect her.”- Standing out from the crowd and making a spectacle to send a message takes way more guts than just talking to a boy, and it’s high time Pop realised that.
16) “Also, now that I think about it, we pretty much saw so little of Pop`s career as a pop star, even though at the start she was a really big underground figure, when she came into the spotlight and became mainstream I was expecting to see more of her fanbase, but they never came back.”- Pop’s street Idol career was something of an expression of immaturity, just a young girl putting on a show to have fun and express herself without fear. As she started to take it and herself more seriously, those that were charmed by her whimsical ways on the streets naturally didn’t get to get involved in more of her concerts as she started holding them in more official venues, save a few dedicated hard-core fans.
17) “HELL YEAH POP, YOU GO GIRL!
NOW GO OUT THERE AND KISS KOICHI, THEN KISS MAKOTO AS WELL TO ESTABLISH DOMINANCE. SHOW THEM WHO`S THE BOSS HERE”- Don’t forget to T-Pose as the final step.

BNHA Observations, speculations and assorted info: The facts taking place during BNHA second year: July
So, in order to write my fic, I spend much time observing canon scenes, comparing the manga and the anime version, take note of details, translations and info in them as well as finding out how are some things called.
Since what I noticed/speculated/found out can be of use for other fic authors I thought to share as well.
OBSERVATIONS, SPECULATIONS AND ASSORTED INFO:
You might notice a special focus on the Todoroki family as all their birthdays and statuses are listed. That’s because this timeline was originally meant to focus solely on them and then I included info about the other characters.
LEGENDA:
BNHA: “Boku no Hero Academia” manga.
MOVIE 1: “Boku no Hero Academia The Movie ～Futari no HERO～” [僕 (ぼく) のヒーローアカデミア THE (ザ) MOVIE (ムービー) ～２人 (ふたり) の英雄 (ヒーロー) ～ My Hero Academia: Two Heroes]

TIMELINE (JULY)
JULY 1: Todoroki Natsuo turns 19.
FIRST WEEK OF JULY (A WEEK AFTER THE STUDENTS DECIDED TO ORGANIZE THEMSELVES IN STUDY GROUPS - LIKELY MONDAY): Written part of the FIRST TERM FINAL EXAMS. [BNHA Chap 60. In Japan, during them, no regular classes are held so the same likely applies here too. Usually Japanese students are tested in English, math, Japanese, science, and social studies, plus health and physical fitness, home economics, music, and art. Also they usually last three days. If the same applies here this would mean they started on Monday and the practical was on Thursday. ]
FIRST WEEK OF JULY (LIKELY THURSDAY): Practical exam. Todoroki Shōto manages to pass it working in team with Yaoyorozu Momo. Todoroki Tōya, under the name of Dabi, along with Toga Himiko, joins the League of Villains. [BNHA Chap 60-68. The time is unclear here as the scene with the League of Villains might have happened the day after or even two days after as Shigaraki Tomura will meet Midoriya on Saturday... though it's also possible Shigaraki wandered for two days before meeting him.]

FIRST WEEK OF JULY, LIKELY SATURDAY (THE DAY AFTER): Todoroki Shōto goes to visit Todoroki Rei as he always does in his days off. The rest of class A minus Bakugō goes at the Kiyashi Ward Shopping Mall (木椰区ショッピングモール Kiyashi-ku Shopping Mall) to buy things for the summer camp. Midoriya and Shigaraki Tomura meet. [BNHA Chap 68-70, SB 2]
FOREST TRAINING CAMP ARC
SECOND WEEK OF JULY, MONDAY: Eraser Head tells the students they cancelled their usual accommodations and won’t reveal their destination until the day they depart. Shinsō Hitoshi starts being trained by him. [BNHA Chap 70]
THIRD WEEK OF JULY, AROUND THURSDAY: Tamakawa Sansa learns that someone saw Dabi entering in a building that didn’t have any tenants, the building being Shigaraki Tomura’s hideout. [BNHA Chap 83 It was two weeks before the summer camp attack]
TWO HEROES ARC
JULY, AROUND THE 20TH, POSSIBLY ON SATURDAY: Summer Break. Midoriya and All Might go to I-Island for the I-expo and meet Melissa Shield and her father, David Shield. Uraraka, Yaoyorozu and Jirō, who're there because Yaoyorozu's father received an invitation due to him holding some of I-expo sponsors' stocks and had two extra invites for her friends, meet Midoriya and they all end up at the place where Kaminari and Mineta are working. Īda, who received an invitation to go there due to his family being one of Heroes, meets with them as well. We're told the other girls from class A are also on the island but not with them. They then meet Kirishima who's there with Bakugō who got invited because he won the sport festival and allowed to bring a friend along, and Todoroki Shōto, who was there in place of his father, Endeavor. They all go at the party when Wolfram's group attack it. [MOVIE 1 The movie is clearly placed before the Summer training camp. Summer break in Japan starts around the 2th of August]
JULY (THE DAY AFTER), POSSIBLY SUNDAY: By dawn Wolfram's group is defeated. The Academy's exibit opens to the public. Some of class A kids will go to the pavillon where the academy's exibit is or so they planned. David Shield, from his hospital bed, talks to his daughter. [MOVIE 1]

68. Are there any fics that influenced you to write the way you do?
i will never shut up about @penrose-quinn's mugen chronicles. but what really made me influenced the hell out of me and slapped me is beneath the weeping wisteria. i am always head over heels for sad wives from before modern times.
all of my friends know her works. i swear.
69. What are your favorite fics at the moment?
aside from the fics i mentioned above, hmmm. i guess the same ones i used to like.
skinned hearts by skilledwarriorskiwi which is a devil may cry fanfic that i'm screaming over because i love the characterization of the main character and tbh, it's mostly because of the "reader is nero's mother" tag and i'm waiting very patiently for that to appear.
until dawn by aesari who made me look like a hypocrite because i said i don't like bnha anymore but they shoved this wonderful work down my throat. this is exactly the type of reincarnation fic that i love.
the hematic by ohtze which, come on, i've mentioned at least a hundred times now. i think most of us know who ohtze is. but anyway, all my friends also know about this fic and how i love the body horror, the characterization, and etc., that make this whole fic literally a masterpiece.
71. Do you spend more time reading or writing?
nowadays, i spend more time writing :/ i honestly wanna read more but i don't have time and i have nothing to read. i've been picking up novels recently though! and so far, i've loved most of what i read except for one of them..

1) “I HAVE BEEN RESURRECTED FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL”-

2) “But enough of that, I`m back, and I`m ready to continue from where we left on vigilantes, right as Pop caught Koich and Makoto ready to frick frack paddy whack FUCK. Now let`s see how that won`t happen, on Chapter 68: Partner.
Oh, the Cowboy AU chapter? I heard about it…”-Partner. The word implies somebody equal, trusted, dependable, reliable…and whilst Koichi is all these things for Pop, she’s now realising that she’s not really any of those for him, even if he sees it differently. She needs to carve her own way in the world, stand on her own two feet, and not ride Koichi’s coattails all the time, just like Uraraka resolved to become a capable hero who could fight alongside Izuku rather than a love stuck girl who let her emotions impact her effectiveness on the field.
3) “Alright Makoto, you still have the spotlight, time to shine and give Pop a hell of a bad time.”- All it takes is patience, focus and the determination to power on through Koichi’s titanium- strong denseness, and she makes more progress towards a relationship with Koichi in half a chapter than Pop managed in many and over an in-universe two year period. That’s gotta sting.
4) “Pop, are you sure want to hear this? Things are about to get steamy…. Actually they won`t, but I want to give you a scare so you realize its time to act for fuck`s sake woman”- Oh, she’ll act alright, but first she needs to see how Makoto handles her own confession towards Koichi, in order to gauge what she should do to properly compete with her on this private battlefield of their. It’s not like Koichi will be giving a definite answer anytime soon anyway, he’s still getting used to the idea that a girl would see any benefit in a long-term relationship with him.
5) “Oh damn, Makoto gave a hint but downplayed it a little, knowing this boy is too stupid to catch it. Well, I bet that even if she wanted to confess he wouldn`t understand it… Now to the Bathroom of justice he goes! There`s no time to waste!”- Oh, she’s gonna make damn sure he understands, one way or another! No comical misunderstandings happening tonight!
6) “Now time for some post-hugging coffee, those two are extremely kinky by the looks of it. Damn, now that everything was quickly explained and brushed aside I`ll have to stop with the jokes about them fucking ): “- Makoto didn’t travel halfway around the world for her sincere confession to get swept aside that easily.
7) “Ah, I already see where this is gonna go, Makoto will talk about a guy she likes without giving names, and Koichi of course will think its someone from America, and yadda yadda nothing of productive shall come out of this, its like when I sit down to write.”- Makoto’s writing the script of this conversation, and she didn’t become that famous and respected by being unproductive in America, now did she? She not about to quit now.
8)“But anyway, back to the master of romance, about to completely miss the point of the conversation. Go on Koichi, make me proud of your status as a shonen protagonist.”- Not even the world-class defences of Koichi’s utter denseness could deflect Makoto this night, for she came here with a mission in mind, dammit!
9) “Huh, interesting. Makoto is extremely smart and confident, but even so she`s not arrogant, she is well aware that her luck might change or that she can screw up in a monumental scale and end at the bottom of the well.”- Pride Goethe before the fall, and high as she’s risen, Makoto’s not arrogant enough to believe she’ll always be on top of the world. It’s an intense rollercoaster of a bucking bronco, a position that constantly demands effort and focus to remain on top, and in that kind of environment, somebody like Koichi, plain, dull, ordinary, but stable, safe and reassuring, would be exactly what Makoto needed to help her keep on track, understand when it’s time to walk away, and exit with dignity and grace, rather than over-reach and lose it all.
10) “Holy shit Makoto is pretty much saying to his face that she likes him, that his presence calms her and that she wants him by her side and HE STILL HASN`T NOTICED WHAT SHE IS SAYING FUCK`S SAKE KOICHI I`M GOING TO FUCKING DECK YOU”-Koichi’s mental defences are working overtime trying to keep him from that lightbulb moment, but Makoto’s not giving up anytime soon.
11) “SHE IS FUCKING CONFESSING TO HIM WITHOUT ANY WAY OF DOUBTING WHAT HER INTENTIONS ARE AND HE STILL HASN`T NOTICED WHAT THE CONVERSATION IS ABOUT
HOLY. FUCK.
MAKOTO DID CONFESS
I WASN`T EXPECTING THAT ONE”- Rather than dancing around the issue and allowing miscommunication to ensue, Makoto just cuts straight to the point and tells him outright, being self-confident enough to admit her feelings and not get overwhelmed by her own insecurities mid-sentence like Pop, getting further than she ever did as a result. Never forget the basics when talking to another human being you want to properly communicate with, especially one with ignorance on Koichi’s level- Keep It Simple, Stupid.
12) “HOLY SHIT HE UNDERSTOOD IT
WHAT
WHAT THE FUCK
HE NOTICED WHAT SHE WAS SAYING
HE REALIZED THIS WAS A ROMANTIC CONFESSION
WHAT
WHAT AM I READING DID SOMEONE TOOK OVER FURUHASHI`S SPOT AS A WRITER OR SOMETHING?”-
Koichi: (Hears Romance confession) Does Not Compute!
L: (Realises Koichi understood a romance confession) Does Not Compute!
13) “She caught both of us off-guard there my boy, not gonna lie. Both her and Furuhashi. But anyway, the confession was given, now for the answer: no. But Koichi has a few months to give that one, Makoto is a patient girl after all.”-She arguably waited 2 years before she was good and ready to give her confession when it was convenient for her and her career, unlike Pop who waited two years because she kept putting it off out of fear of rejection.
14) “You definitely don`t have, but even so, we know you will. Even though there was no romantic build-up besides Pop saying she had a crush some 50 chapters ago, which was actually over two years before, and even though you never showed any romantic interest on her, we know you will pick Pop, first girl always wins in those mangas, its a rule that is more ingrained in romantic sub-plots than the fucking law of gravity “- Well, Pop’s at least going to do her best to make sure she’s making equal strides in getting Koichi to see her in a romantic manner first whilst she gives her own confession, just so he gets that she really means it and isn’t playing catch-up with Makoto out of jealousy.
15) “Ah, there we go, now the denseness is back. Makoto, can you explain to him with all words? Otherwise he won`t understand it.”- Flow charts and diagrams may also be required.
16) “HOLY SHIT SHE ACTUALLY DID SAY IT CLEARLY WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WHY ARE WE SUDDENLY GOING AROUND ALL THE TRAPDOORS OF MISUNDERSTANDING THAT I WAS EXPECTING?!”- Makoto came back to Japan driving the plot train, and she’s making sure everybody gets on board with her.
17) “Alright, calm down there koichi, the way you worded that make it seem like you two did talk about romance or dating or whatever during those last two years, but she always acted like a fucking tsundere and avoided it.”- Guess that’s one thing to be glad we skipped over anyway.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
One for All October will be an event in October dedicated to producing Yoichi-centric fics and art, hosted by McFaneLy and Katydid. This event will run between October 1st all the way through till Halloween!
Rules:
We will have an art and writing category. Anything focused on Yoichi qualifies. If an artwork, then he must be prominently featured. If a fic, then Yoichi must be one of the main characters.
You may submit as many entries as you’d like. However, you will only be eligible to win once in each category.
The minimum word count for a fic is 1,000 words. Drawings must be colored.
Fics should not have any explicit sexual content. For artwork, no extreme blood or gore and no nudity/pornography/NSFW. Mild gore is allowed.
To qualify, an entry must be posted by October 31, 2022, 11:59 AM EST.
Prizes:
First place in both art and writing will receive prizes from both of us: a half-body color artwork from McFaneLy and a fic of a minimum of 2,500 words from Katydid. We both will also be offering honorable mention prizes of sketches and snippets. One honorable mention will be given out randomly to ensure that everyone has a chance to win.
The number of prizes will depend on the number of entries we get. We will not do NSFW content and we reserve the right to ask for a different request.
