So this video called “Disney Revival: return of the villains” is basically a mashup a few Spanish voice actors and singers put together and played in an auditorium. The transitions and the vocals are amazing, and it’s a good video to appreciate the castillian translation of these disney villain songs. So here are some subs for it.
The Puerto Rican flag showing up when Rio snaps at Miles for getting a B in Spanish is such a fun little example of the incredible attention to detail in this movie
I Took the Spanish Placement Test at Lingoda today and got this result:
The CEFR level of B1 corresponds to “lower intermediate level” (more about the CEFR levels here). I think I’m probably at the B2 level when it comes to listening and reading skills, but since my grammar and verb conjugation skills aren’t quite as strong, I think B1 is probably an accurate assessment result.
Overview of the…
ive spent like the past week finishing up putting together a literature curriculum for a spanish class im teaching over the summer & man, there's nothing like trying to give an overview of spanish lit to a bunch of teenagers in just 4 weeks to make you feel the weight of The Canon. like, on one hand i want to give them an overview that doesn't just pretend that the only people writing anything good or important were just a small group of men who only spoke castillian spanish (or even just who lived in spain, the class is focusing on spain in particular but im still including sor juana and ruben dario on account of sheer influence, and if i had time i'd probably throw at least one latam boom author in there), but on the other hand-- with the amount of time we have and an average language level of the class, we can't actually read a whole lot of material, so i feel like i cant leave out some of the biggest names regardless of personal taste. like sure, i generally preferred reading maria de zayas to cervantes, but we only have time for one siglo de oro prose author and i'm not going to leave out miguel de fucking cervantes, are you kidding me?
this is doubly complicated by the fact that'd i'd be completely justified in using emilia pardo bazan as my example of an Important Canonical Realismo author who is also a woman but i simply refuse to do that to myself on account of jesus christ have you tried to read her prose. i'm not doing that to a high schooler
hi guys i'm posting again. as much as i love playing characters who have a self-preservation instinct it's so much EASIER to play characters who do not have one even at all especially in situations Like This
im watching a video of 7 year old me explaining the logistics of feeding the soca (the catalan/aragonese shitting-present log) and oh my god my accent.... my catalan is so un-castillianized in some aspects but also castillianized in other, even weirder aspects... and girl.... the ɛ's.... shes a best friend shes family.....
i know brazillian portuguese is generally more pleasant to foreigners bc its more open and almost lyrical, and that people find european portuguese strange bc the harsher consonants, sh sounds and closed vowels make it sound a lil like russian.
but that's exactly why it's so good
like yall will never know the satisfaction of rlly digging into that tú sound in "ESTÚPIDO" when someone's a dick in traffic. or a well placed "FODASSE". and, if you're a real connoisseur, you know when to fake a northern accent to turns a simple "caralho" into a very deep seated "QUARALHO"
Incredibly funny how hard is to fathom for non-spanish speaking people the sheer variety of it across the world.
Yes, we can understand each other. No, it's not the same language. Yes, we can tell where you come from by the accent. No, you cannot imitate the other accent without being a little bit rude. Yes, some accents are incomprehensible and it varies by people. No, there is no standard, all are correct. Yes, other languages simply do not manage to express with the same feeling so we'll speak it when possible and not rude.
Insulting and swearing in spanish is better. It's just better.
