Aftermath of NEL/BM Vs PxG:

Isagi is the protagonist, so I'll be focusing on him.

From the start, the main main rival in NEL for Isagi has been Kaiser, and there have been instances where the latter had accepted that Isagi got him good. In fact, in the chapter 239, he was genuinely tweaking:

You see my boy in the top left? Yeah, even Ness was taken aback.

Also, while we are at it, can we give a glance to this panel:

Ness, indeed, calls everything disgusting, but the last line, "The Magic of Yoichi's football...!?"

Hello???????????????

How did we ignore that, huh?

I understand that it doesn't seem like much but if we were to take in account of his backstory, then we can say that, that IS a big statement coming out of Ness' mouth.

So, is this like a slow/indirect build-up to a moment in the BM Vs PxG where Ness assists Isagi instead of Kaiser?

BUT

That's where things becomes low-key difficult for me to digest.

You see, if Isagi were to INDEED surpass/defeat Kaiser, then what?

No, I'm not trying to pick up a fight, I'm genuinely asking what will happen after that? Will Kaiser become a disposable rival or something like Kira Ryosuke?

But you know, the above thing seems a bit farfetched. I understand that Kira disappearing like that seemed farfetched too, but Kaiser as a character has too much depth to just be thrown away.

That's why, I think that Isagi MIGHT surpass Kaiser but only superficially.

That's that, and now we have this grumpy fella:

Rin has been Isagi's rival ever since the beginning of second selection and the thing low-key became officially mutual when Sae praised Isagi after the U-20 match.

However, Isagi's Blue Lock rank is canonically 2 now and Rin's rank is 1. So if Isagi were to truly defeat Rin, then he will became number 1 and that's like the endgame for Blue Lock you know— protagonist reached the highest point. I understand that the main goal is to win the World Cup, but still.. you getting me, right?

BUT

Amidst everything, why are we forgetting this miracle boy:

What if he pulls up some Prodigy shit during the Barcha match and gets into Top 3?

Further, with Kunigami Vs Shidou, what makes you think that these two wouldn't get into Top 5 too?

I think that Isagi wouldn't be number 1 yet. He'll probably share the rank or maybe that his auction value will increase for sure but he'll get his rank lowered/shared. It makes sense because there have been many moments where Isagi was humbled and didn't get the victory he wanted at once.

But.

BUT

We can't forget the above panel.

Something fiery is being cooked up.

Every type of theory that has been made about World Cup arc/Post-NEL arc takes in the facts from whatever we know about REAL life U-20 World Cup.

So if something entirely else is going to happen in the BLLK universe, then I don't know what more can happen.

To sum it up, I think this MIGHT happen:

Rin gets an offer from Royale Madrid/Re Al and will maintain his ranking of 1.

Isagi gets an offer with higher salary than his current but it'll not affect his ranking.

Nagi pulls up his shit and becomes L(egend).

Top 5/Top 10 will have more than one shared ranking.

Shidou and Kunigami gets banger offers too.

And about the match:

Kaiser will score a goal.

Kunigami too and Shidou will give him some kind of acknowledgement.

IGA-DA-GOAT-GURI will clutch and gives BM a free kick by making someone from PxG do a foul.

Kiyora will either assist or will score himself.

Isagi might score a goal too.

Yukimiya might assist.

Raichi defends against Loki.

Goatmaru slays.

Charles Vs Hiori.

Yet another busy IRL week, which cut into my writing time/energy. I touched 2 fics (1 new work & 1 WIPs) for a total of 1658 words.

I’m juggling 17 😬 active/semi-active WIPs with my current deadlines being the Captain Bottom Bingo which wraps at the end of the month.

* A1 - “It’s you. It’s always been you.” - throw into the CABB Royal Knight fic?

* B2 - Character’s personality is split into two different beings – I’ve never played with Bucky & the Soldier being two different people, but this seems like the perfect opportunity! Will see what might be a good crossover on one of my open cards.

* C1 - Touch Starved – another good fit for a Bucky-centric fic. (Steve or Tony or Clint).

* C3 - Bath/shower sex - try matching this up with BaBB February prompt: Morning sex. We’ll see if the Smut Fairy visits within the next week!

Bucky Barnes Connect Four - Alt Jun-iverse [BBC4_R2] {Ends June 2024}

The good folks over at @buckybarnesevents have opened this event up early! You sign up for a single row card of four squares and the challenge is to see if you can combine any/all into a single Bucky-centric AU fanwork - although you can also create 2-4 separate fanworks if you want.

The combo of prompts on my first card [Reality Show, Omegaverse, Talent/Manager, Royalty] sparked an idea that I’m about 230 words + misc notes into already - Alpha!Bucky as a technical prince who gets talked into joining a reality show that is supposed to match him up with an omega… but there’s a twist! Planning to pick this back up in the next week or so.

Just signed up for this fun Tumblr event - got a 3x3 card and and am looking forward to creating more Clint-centric content and trying my hand at a bit of Kate Bishop fic as well!

Now because I’m on the topic of artistic styles I kinda want to make a post comparing the before and after styles of some of the manga I’ve read/am reading that have super drastic differences because it’s FUN to see the art growth. :’)

I’ll start with Fruits Basket

Tohru Chapter 1 vs. Tohru Chapter ???? I don’t remember but I know it’s volume 22 (there’s 23 volumes total)

Kyo Chapter 1 vs. Kyo from same chapter as Tohru above (like, a lot of chapters later)

Shigure Chapter 1 vs. I have no idea but it’s from volume 23. (I realize now that Shigure was the first Shiggy in my life lol)

Moving on to Ouran High School Host Club because holy moly

Haruhi Chapter 1 vs. Chapterrrrr I’m not sure

Tamaki Chapter 1 vs. Not sure. But like very close to the end. You really only have to power through the first 20+ chapters with this one before you start seeing the style change. It happens quickly.

Soul Eater

Soul and Maka chapter 1 vs the last chapter 😭

My faaaavorite change, and probably the most drastic out of all of them, D. Gray-Man

Allen chapter 7 or 8, don’t remember vs. chapter 239 :’)

Kanda chapter 5 vs. chapter I don’t remember but in the 200′s (he’s the same age in both panels btw, he looks like a BABBY in the first one oof)

Again...same age...lol. Idk the chapters, but over 200 chapters later we have this masterpiece on the right.

Aaaand finally I’m gonna state how much I love Horikoshi’s subtle changes with Shigaraki. These aren’t drastic but I like the gradual shift.

One of the reasons I enjoy manga so much more than anime is because of the style change, and the pretty art moments that you just don’t get in the anime most of the time. To me, it makes a difference in how I perceive the story. And I can see how much better the mangaka got at drawing their characters 🖤. It’s the little things.

My Villain Academia, Break Down:

Can the anime fit 21-23 chapters into six episodes? Who knows. That's almost 4 chapters per episode, and the timeline is already a confusing mess of trying to keep track of who's who and what who is doing. But here's how I think it'll go:

Episode 108: Chapters 220, 221, 222, 223 Gigantomachia finds the League; the League meets the Doctor; Shigaraki tells of his distorted origins; Mountain Training; the MLA calls to demand ransom for a captured Giran

(As we've seen in the preview! One issue: for people who has only seen the anime, they'll have a question: Who the fuck are the Meta Liberation Army. Remember, we've skipped the vital worldbuilding history for continuing the students' storylines, with mysterious scenes inserted here and there. We need that material, therefore...)

Episode 109: Chapters 218, 219; 224, 225 Formal introduction of Detnerat/ReDestro/MLA; Giran's sexy scenes; the League's plan and arrival in Deika, Curious vs. Toga - Part 1

(Like, they gotta animate Giran's loyalty to the League, right? Let's hope! After receiving that info on him and the MLA, it's time for the League to warp to Deika. First fight is Curious trying to force Toga into an interview; we'll probably end the episode with Toga's statement of 'her normal'.)

Episode 110: Chapters 226, 227, 228, 229 Curious vs. Toga - Part 2; Dabi vs. Geten; Shigaraki's flashback of Hana, and unlocking Decay+; Twice finding Toga and getting attacked by Skeptic; Twice's backstory and breakthrough

(Self-explanatory. Perhaps we'll end the episode with Twice preparing to unleash Sad Man's Parade? That would be super cool, so please!)

Episode 111: Chapter 230, 231, 232, 233 Sad Man's Parade turning the tide of the battle; Dabi vs. Geten, + Mr. Compress; Twice's reunion with Shigaraki and Spinner; Spinner vs. Trumpet; Twice and Clones vs. ReDestro

(Check up on how the rest of the League is doing. Gimme hikkikomori Spinner BONES, gimme. I wonder how the anime will tackle the Tower Fight and Spinner vs. Trumpet. Do we pop over to the tower like in the anime, then come back to Spinner, before going back to Shigaraki? Remains to be seen.)

Episode 112: Chapters 234, 235, 236, 237 Shigaraki's Episode!!! Shigaraki loses half his left hand, but regains his memories; Shimura Tenko: Origins; Shimura Massacre; The Walk; and finally, Tenko being picked up by AFO + The Hands

(This is gonna be a doozy of an episode.)

Episode 113: Chapters 238, 239, 240; ...246? Shigaraki wrecks Deika; ReDestro hands over the army to Shigaraki; SUSHI; Shigaraki's Coronation; Hawks' infiltration; Shigaraki goes in for surgery

(Anime went and showed the SHIGARAKI TOMURA, MY MASTERPIECE scene, so they gotta explain that. Hence, shoving in the surgery prep with Shigaraki + Ujiko. Personally, I would much prefer having the whole episode to the League, but there's the fact of us missing the Aizawa/Yamada/Shirakumo wrap up scene. Feels like it'll be weird to shove it into Season 6? I bet we'll unfortunately shift back over the UA to conclude the season.)

Sleeping at sea

Just before dark, we took the bearings of the frigate, and stood the same course as she was doing, and then we sat down to a plentiful meal to which we did justice. I then divided the boat's crew into watches, went down into the cabin, and threw myself on the standing bed-place, of which there was but one, with all my clothes on; the men who had not the watch went down, and turned in in the cuddy forward, where the seamen usually sleep.

One of the most charming definitions I've learned from Marryat's books is standing bed-place, which appears in several of his novels to describe a bunk, a sleeping place fixed against the walls of a cabin of a ship. It's a very nautical use of the word "standing," in the sense of standing rigging, which are comparative fixtures that support the masts, vs. running rigging which are in constant use to trim the yards and make or shorten sail. (A "running" bed-place would be a hammock, which is easily removed and stowed away).

Marryat almost certainly slept in a standing bed-place in his nearly 25 years of service in the Royal Navy, but the bed he describes in his cabin in The King's Own is a hanging cot, which is "swinging and jerking up to the beams" in rough seas during a wild chapter where Marryat puts his story aside to document the real-life experience of writing his book in trying circumstances—"I am seated in the after-cabin of a vessel, endowed with as liberal a share of motion as any in his Majesty's service: whilst I write I am holding on by the table, my legs entwined in the lashings underneath, and I can barely manage to keep my position before my manuscript."

With his ship being the 28-gun HMS Ariadne[1], Marryat may have had a hanging cot like these for junior officers aboard the famous HMS Victory:

As captain, Marryat's cabin was more nicely appointed, and he had a book collection to rival that of Fitzjames, although the storm and careless fitting of the half ports in the dockyard threaten it in The King's Own:

I have just been summoned from my task, in consequence of one of the battens, which secured my little library, having given way to the immoderate weight of learning that pressed upon it: and, as my books have been washed to and fro, I have snatched them from their first attempts at natation. Smith's Wealth of Nations I picked up first, not worth a fig; Don Juan I have just rescued from a second shipwreck

Marryat's young midshipmen do not start out with standing bed-places or hanging cots, and must learn to climb into their hammocks— and avoid those who would maliciously cut them down. Here, Frank Mildmay takes revenge on a cockpit bully in an illustration by H.R. Millar:

I then gently pushed a shot-case under the head of his hammock, and placed the corner of it so as to receive his head; for had it split his skull I should not have cared, so exasperated was I, and so bent on revenge. Subtle and silent, I then cut his lanyard: he fell, and his head coming in contact with the edge of the shot-case, he gave a deep groan, and there he lay. I instantly retreated to my chest and blanket, where I pretended to snore, while the sentinel, who, fortunately for me, had seen Murphy cut me down the first time, came with his lanthorn, and seeing him apparently dead, removed the shot-case out of the way, and then ran to the sergeant of marines, desiring him to bring the surgeon's assistant.

(Louis J. Parascandola calls Mildmay "Marryat's coldest hero" for a reason[2].)

In a more lighthearted vein, Newton Forster has a hammock-related revenge visited on a group of soldiers aboard an East Indiaman, who have been using the ship's chickens for cockfighting. The captain waits for them to practice musketry drills on deck, and then has the boatswain pipe 'All hands, air bedding'.

The ship was hauled close to the wind, which was light. At the pipe, the sailors below ran up the hatchway, and those on deck threw down their work. In a minute every hammock was out of the netting, and every seaman busy at unlashing.

"Now, major, we had better go into the cabin," said Captain Oughton, laughing. "I shall, I can assure you."

Beds and blankets which are not aired or shook more than once a month, are apt to be very full of what is termed fluff and blanket hairs, and they have a close smell, by no means agreeable. The sailors, who had an idea that the order had been given inconsiderately, were quite delighted, and commenced shaking their blankets on the forecastle and weather gangway, raising a cloud, which the wind carried aft upon the parties exercising upon the quarter-deck.

A first mate is entertained by the spectacle and explains that bedding is never aired unless the ship is before the wind, and as the infantry officer struggles to dismiss his men he alludes to “a great many little men” being dismissed from the bedding. (It’s just as horrifying as you would expect).

Scattered Star Wars Thoughts: - One of the things I didn’t touch on in the Aftermath + Alphabet Squadron + Treason + etc. post is that one thing I often find myself wishing that Alphabet Squadron was doing what I enjoyed so much about the Aftermath books, where it included a lot with Han and Leia and Mon and other recognizable characters. I know Hera sill show up in AS at some point, but I don’t get the impression that it’s more than a cameo or so? Because I really like that stuff in Empire’s End, the difficulties that Mon is facing with the New Republic, especially after the shitshow that was the Empire’s attack at the end of Life Debt and how difficult it is to navigate Leia’s actions on Kashyyyk being a Leeroy Jenkins’ing of the situation, that it worked in the moment, but long-term ramifications might fuck them all over, and how we know that this is all going to lead to the whole Centrists vs Loyalists problem, which will feed right into the First Order walking right over the lot of them. It’s a situation with no easy answers, but one I really feel for everyone in, because, yesssss, this is the kind of politics stuff that I eat up! Treason has been kind of feeding that above thing as well, with Tarkin and Krennic showing up early on in a HILARIOUS petty infighting series of scenes that was pretty delightful! I want more of that! - I’m on chapter 5 of Treason and I’m enjoying it a lot! It’s hard not to compare it to Alliances or to wonder why that book fell so flat on its face for me, to try to analyze what it is about Treason that’s going better. Even when I’ve mostly put it into words and settled it in my head, it’s hard not to keep going--a lot of which is because I came so close to really enjoying Alliances and I’m still mad that I didn’t, after I enjoyed Thrawn so much. To be fair, I’m only a fifth of the way through Treason and I enjoyed the beginning of Alliances too, but I’m hoping that the second one was just sort of a weird miss for me. (It keeps itching at me because one of my biggest problems was the Anakin characterization, so maybe I just don’t like the way Zahn writes Anakin? Except I recently reread Changing Seasons and I LOVE that Anakin! I think it comes down to that I don’t think Anakin was given enough props or presence in the room, when Thrawn was around, and that he felt weirdly disconnected from the others he should have been obsessing about at that point, like Ahsoka and Obi-Wan and even Palpatine to a degree. Combined with Padme’s total disconnection from her other handmaidens, to the point that Duja was apparently the one she was supposedly closest with, and I’m over here flapping my arms like, “Where the fuck is Sabe!?”, it was a hard sell that didn’t quite make it for me.) But what I like about Treason so far is that Tarkin and Krennic’s catfighting definitely took up more presence in the room than Thrawn, that he was just a stick they were trying to beat each other with, that Ar’alani is like, “oh, god, that idiot again, blundering into the middle of my mission” and so far there hasn’t been an implication of ~the narrative’ll show her~, which it’s doing with Ronan. (Which is fine, that’s part of the Thrawn novels’ schtick, I expect it to a degree, and also Ronan is HILARIOUS about it.) And Eli is there and, yeah, he’s kind of HEART EYES MOTHER FUCKER over Thrawn, but he gets praised as well for his skills, so it balances things out nicely. Basically, so far, Treason is so much of what I loved about that first book and I am so ready to be charmed again by this fucker who is definitely an asshole, because I feel like Thrawn doesn’t actually care about anyone, he’s only ~fair and honorable~ because it gets him the best results, that he’d be a dictator if that got him the better results instead, and I like that about the character, that’s how I can put him together with the version of him in Rebels. Chapter Titles

There are a couple of good reasons to title your chapters. First of all, when you are writing a novel, you often want to “hook” your reader into reading the next chapter. A good chapter title can do that. You don’t have to work hard at it. Something as simple as “A Killer Unmasked” promises the reader that if he or she continues on, the killer in the story will be revealed in that chapter. It’s subtle, simple, and quick. It can also be a pain for the writer. Many times, I’ve asked authors why they didn’t title their chapters, and the response has been, “Well, I tried, but I never could think of a great title for chapter seven.” I’ve been there, done that myself. In that case, don’t look for a great title, just look for any title that might act as a hook. Of course, the chapter title isn’t the only hook. You can load them into the opening prose itself so that you hook the reader dozens of ways. The second reason to title your chapters has to do with the editing process. Imagine that you’ve decided, “Oh, I need to go back and show that my character Joe gets in a bad mood when he hasn’t had coffee.” You say, “I know just the place to do it—in that scene where he gets out of bed in the morning. Now where was that?” If you just have numbers for your chapters, you probably won’t remember that it was in chapter 37. But the chapter titles provide something of an outline for you. It helps you recall how you’ve ordered your novel. So you can very easily remember, “Oh, yeah, it was in that chapter 'A Killer Unmasked.'” So make life easy for yourself: Title your chapters!
