At least...she can be reasoned with...
Tumblr media
But Nayuta's cold attitude toward humanity must have been devastating for denj to hear..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He really tried the best he knew how...but Denji never had the guidance he needed growing up...so he used the only tools he had..
Tumblr media
And now it's pretty clear to him that he didn't do the best job as a parental figure. However he's not entirely failing either since she seems receptive to his feelings & his feelings alone...

Even if it seems like every conversation is a bargain...

Though Kishibe DID see Denji as the only one fit to raise the control devil, I'm interested to see where goes.

I've had about a week to think about the last chapter, and I just have to talk about how much it disturbed me. Before this chapter I was begging for more Denji Nayuta interaction but there was just something so off about there interaction in this chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nayuta has a lack of empathy for humans, and maybe it was her humans appearance fooling me but this chapter along with the scene after Asa and Denjis kiss really cements the fact that she is in fact a devil. And not just any devil, she's the control devil which after Makima makes things so much more scary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And these scenes specifically really get to me, the way Denji is looking down and to the left while stretching his arms out, avoiding eye contact or even looking at her on top of the fact that he doesn't hold her in either of the scenes when she's holding on to him, it makes it feel like there's a disconnect between them that Nayuta doesn't see because she's young. It's like Denjis seeing Makima in her in scenes like this and he doesn't know what to do, so he just does what will make her happy/resolve the situation in the most peaceful way possible. It's like he's walking on egg shells around her and it's turned scenes with her from fun and cute ones like when he's with Asa, to ones that are tense and fill me with a sense of anxiety, the same way the scenes with Makima after Powers death made me feel.

this is the georgie and martin one... oh no...
HI @a-mag-a-day IM ABOUT TO BE SO NORMAL. anyway um conflicts of interest: i love jonathan sims head archivist of the magnus institute london more than anyone else in the world barring my cat and my partner.
so let's just. go then, i guess.
I had a half blue in modern pentathlon and another in orienteering from my undergrad days.
I've done a couple of triathlons before, and a few aquathons (see, my favourite part was cycling, and second favourite was swimming, so I wish there was a swimming and cycling one I could do, instead of just swimming and running), but I've never heard of a pentathlon before. Apparently - according to the CBC - it's fencing, swimming, horse riding, and combined running and shooting.
Obviously, we wanted to leave him to his own stupidity and let the Amazon deal with him, but we both knew that it just wouldn’t be worth the paperwork.
ajhdshaghfhg they should have
As I got closer to the shabono, it became clear what was wrong with it. Although each roof was thatched like normal, the stands weren’t made of leaves, but all kinds of different materials instead: long strands of plastic, shards of rusted metal, even oddly shaped hunks of cement.
Hmm
But the inside was just like the outside, and in the worst possible way. There were no people in there, but that’s not the same thing as it being empty. Instead there were … figures. From a distance, they looked like human beings standing impossibly still, but getting closer quickly revealed the lie. They were just the rough shapes, cobbled together out of a hundred different pieces of garbage: a broken metal clothes horse for a ribcage, a plastic chair leg for an arm, rusted screws for teeth. In some cases, it looked like someone had gone to a lot of effort to match anatomy with construction. I saw one with a broken water cooler where its stomach would be, and another had a pair of old oxygen tanks standing in for lungs.
That's really spooky!
He started convulsing, as grey, liquid concrete began to pour from his mouth, from his nose and his eyes. His limbs went rigid and I could see his body starting to swell with it. I don’t know if it was me or Fernanda screaming, maybe it was both of us, but I know it was her that first spotted that the detritus figures were no longer choosing to stand still. That was the last I ever saw of Dr Nikos Anastas. There was never any question of trying to save him.
Oh that is quite spooky. Did they move? Did they become statues? Tis left to the imagination, for your mind to come up with the scariest possible answer while you try to sleep.
In the end, we crossed paths with a group of real Yanomami tribesmen. They were really friendly and, once they figured out that we were lost, they were very happy to return us to a part of the jungle we knew, near our facility. Of course, we didn’t have a good explanation for what happened to Dr Anastas, so we lost our jobs pretty much immediately. But you know what? That’s fine. I’m done with the jungle. There’s something in there, and I don’t know which scares me more: the thought that it’s more than just the things we left behind; or that that’s all it is, and we can’t escape the ruins of our own future.
that is a GREAT last line. ✨spooky!✨
GEORGIE Oh… Because I think he’s going to destroy himself and anyone who lets him get too close. And I don’t want that to include me. Or Melanie.
Alright, alright. Firstly, do I get where Georgie's coming from? Yes, I do. It's hard, having to step away from someone you love because they're going to get you hurt. Giving up one people is hard, and it's shitty when other people tell you that you need to not do that, different situations, but still, same principle. You decide who to associate yourself with, and it's fine to give up on people.
But... being alone sucks, being given up on sucks. I've been there. I've been given up on. You know what sucks more than the fear that everyone hates you? That fear being realized. And that fear was realized for Jon, he wakes up from a coma and has Georgie basically tell him she wished he was dead - maybe not what she said, but that's an interpretation, and if I know enough about anxiety - I know that interpretation is what Jon believes.
Good for Georgie, I guess, doesn't get her life ruined by a monster, I guess. But I sympathize more with Jon. Justified? Sure, but hey, me being alone was justified too. Does it still hurt? Yeah. Is it still a shitty situation to be in, does it still ache to be written off by someone you trusted? Yeah. Yeah, it probably does.
MARTIN Well, sometimes helping people hurts. GEORGIE Sure, but that doesn’t mean everything painful helps. Sometimes people have problems that will wreck you long before you can make a dent in them. And some people don’t want help; they just want other people suffering with them.
And here's the thing, right. I don't have one singular take on this. There's ✨nuance!✨ Like, yeah, does it suck to be written off by a friend? Yeah! Yeah it does! But then, Martin's all... he's doing this whole... hurt himself for Jon - something that, yeah, isn't helping. He's just hurting himself, he's just putting himself in these dangerous situations because maybe it'll help Jon.
Georgie has every right to leave, to protect herself and Melanie. She can't help Jon. Sure, she's saying it in a vaguely victim blame-y way, most seen in the whole "throwing a grenade and jumping on it" thing, cause he didn't chose this, at least not fairly, but she's right to leave, she's right to say this, she feels that she'll just get herself hurt if she tries to help and I get that.
You don't want to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm.
GEORGIE He doesn’t know what he wants. And from the sound of things, he’s run out of time to figure it out. MARTIN It’s easy to pass judgement from the outside. GEORGIE One more reason to stay on the outside.
AND YEAH, IM A LITTLE ANNOYED AT GEORGIE HERE, because she doesn't know what's going on, she doesn't understand and she doesn't get to pass judgement on what other people are feeling and doing and thinking and deciding as someone who's not involved and doesn't want to be involved. Great for her, she isn't trapped in an evil job and gotten turned into a bloody monster. Yeah, I think Martin's right here, for a given value of right. Right is subjective.
MARTIN A-a-and wh-what, you think Melanie’s worth saving? GEORGIE It’s not about worth, but yeah, she’s actually trying to get well, so I’m going to help her. MARTIN This place isn’t a sickness. GEORGIE No, I think it’s worse. MARTIN Look, we’re all just trying to do the right thing. GEORGIE Maybe. Look, life forces you to make hard decisions, but I can never trust someone who goes around looking for hard decisions to make.
You sure that's what's happening? You sure it's not - I dunno - a lot of intentionally crafted rock and hard place decisions for the purpose of ending the world? You sure it's not magically knowing that your... colleague has a ghost bullet in her, and having to decide between violating her trust or asking her and potentially her actually hurting and/or killing you? Sure it's not someone's trapped in a coffin and you're like well, hey, at least I can do something useful? Get her out? Die trying? It's so easy to pass judgement from the outside, to call it a stupid decision when it wasn't. You know what sort of decision it was? A decision from someone who didn't care whether they lived or died in part because of your actions.
GEORGIE Oh, I was, um… … Huh. No-one, apparently. MELANIE Yeah, this place will do that to you. Come on. GEORGIE Sure.
I ONLY NOW REALIZED MARTIN TURNED INVISIBLE WITH HIS SPOOKY LONELY POWERS??? WHAT???
Huh.
Well, in conclusion, really cool statement, I have Feelings about the post statement, and I just think that although Georgie has every right to leave and a point in some things that she was saying, she still said it in a really victim blame-y way, and I'm a little annoyed at her perspective on things. Also, Martin's in like season 3 Jon level of monsterhood, I don't know why he thought he wasn't an Avatar in season 5. Was he doing it unconsciously? Is he at season 2 level, actually?
Right...
Oh! Tomorrow is Cul-de-Sac, one of my favourite episodes... ever. So, look forward to that :3

Frieren timeline
The only timeline available on the wiki isn’t super fleshed out with exact dates and counting backwards etc. So I decided to make my own.
Notes:
1. Spoilers for up to manga ch119 (the most recent at this time)
2. Even if it’s likely just a rough measure (“three hundred years ago”), I’m gonna assume when doing my math that it was exactly 300 years, because otherwise I can’t do most of the math
3. I skip most events that don’t have an exact year, eg Fern and Stark respective being taken in by Heiter and Eisen. I do make some estimates (eg Sein’s birthday, we only know he’s in mid-30s so he can’t have been born any further back than year xx).
4. Standardised year 0 as the year the demon king was defeated
5. Realised about 2/3rds through that I could be writing down chapter citations but at that point it was too late lol sorry
behold!
-3,000: Earliest mentioned date, by Frieren re: dwarf beliefs; most people believed the dead turn to dust, so pre-Goddess. Unclear when Goddess actually starts appearing.
[Emperor Boshaft alive, so is Milliarde, Frieren in village]
-1,000: Frieren becomes Flamme’s apprentice
-950: Flamme passes away*
-510: the last time Frieren fought a demon (quite likely Macht, as in year 80 she says 600 years ago, which would be -520. What’s a decade here and there?)
-420: Frieren restores her golden arm
-422: Aura became one of the seven sages of destruction
-322: the last time Frieren saw another elf, Grandfather Voll starts to protect village
-222: the last time Kraft saw another elf
-120: Fass finds Emperor Boshaft’s alcohol, Gehn starts working on his village’s bridge
-26: Himmel is born
-11?: Hero of the South visits Frieren and dies a year later; tells her she’ll meet Himmel soon**
-10: Hero Party sets out from capital
[Hero Party kills Immortal Bose and pushes back Aura sometime during this period]
-3: Goddess arc (Himmel is 23), Hero Party seals Qual***
0: Demon King defeated, Era Meteors, Macht starts to serve^
2: Denken born
20: Macht is braceleted
28: Continental Magic Association started (at latest), Lernen was first first-class mage
29: Denken came to Auberst with his wife (who died when he was in his twenties); Denken’s wife presumably passed away very soon after
30: last sighting of a Darkness Dragon (per random apothecary); Weis turned to gold and sealed
39: Earliest possible Sein birthday (he would be 40); humanity learns to fly
45: Wirbel born
50: 2nd Era Meteors; Himmel passes away; Aura reappears, demon activity increases in north and baby Wirbel makes promise
61: Stark is born earlier in the year after winter; Fern is born some time after harvest festival but before the last three months of the year
68: Graf Granat’s son dies in war against Aura
69: Sein’s friend Gorilla left
70: Frieren and Fern meet
74: Heiter collapses
75: Stark runs away from Eisen
76: Heiter passes away; Frieren and Fern set out on their journey
76.5: half a year spent looking for blue moonweed
77: Fern turns 16 (after spring, latest autumn)
78: 3+ Months spent at seaside town cleaning beach
79: wintered with Kraft, Stark’s 18th bday (after spring), meet Sein around harvest festival (time is a bit funky since it gets cold and then warm after this?)^^
80: El Dorado arc
81: first chapter after El Dorado. As of ch119, we are here, 31 years after Hero Himmel’s death!
and in the future…
97: Tod’s “curse” will engulf the star?
100: Next meteor shower. Fern and Stark would be 39.
149: Frieren promised to be back at hero’s sword village by this time
1079: Frieren may return to the Continental Mage Association :)
*Assuming she died soon after Frieren’s last shown convo with her where she said “it’s only been 50 years”
**Unclear just when was the Frieren/Hero of the South meeting, so it could technically be anywhere before, but -11 is the most recent it could be
***Frieren says it’s been 80 years in year 77. If she’s being precise then this is the date—but I have doubts as Qual was sealed in the Central Lands, and Hero Party should be well into the Northern Plateau near the goddess monument by this point.
^Technically I think Macht starts to serve a leetle bit before the demon king is defeated, but no time frame given for how long it took Macht and Glück to have those convos
^^To be more precise: they start the year’s winter with Kraft. Then it gets warm, and Stark’s birthday happens. Harvest festivals are usually in autumn, which is when they meet Sein, and then it gets cold enough for the gang to wear their winter gear again, and they spend a winter (or a cold snap?) with Sein. When they get to Auberst they spend an additional two months training with Fern while waiting for the exam to start. But when they finally leave Auberst in ch61, and aren’t wearing their winter clothes anymore, it’s still listed as 29 years post-Himmel death??? There’s a mention of it being because they’re in the volcanic belt… But seriously, year 79 goes on and on. I honestly think the authors just forgot to find a good spot to switch that over lol

So Kiya, I see this interesting theory of Yuuji and Sukuna in twitter, what do you think :
"I am starting to think cursed energy treated them (Sukuna & Yuuji) as conjoined twins because their souls shared a body"
"If Yuji has Sukuna CE and will later use his CT, he's techically his "twin" in a weird way"
"Yeah. Could still be true that they were siblings in the past or something. Just that as of rn, given what we know about ce and twins, without canonical confirmation that they were real twins, this could probably be the closest we can get to confirming the theory"
Oooooh, wait, wait, wait! I got thoughts! I have thoughts! The gears are turning! This is about to be so long, I just know it.
(Also, like to apologize it took me forever to answer this because I'll be real... I was stumped and for a while I barely could conjure up words for anything. Posts and fics.)
Okay, I always thought the whole "Yuji being Sukuna's reincarnated twin" theory rather interesting and honestly, I'm here for that. This is more of a joke for me, at first, that what if Yuji was Sukuna's reincarnation and I'm working on posts for that.
Now, being a reincarnation for his twin, has me thinking about some things.
I mentioned in this post that I find it fishy that Kenjaku birthed a vessel for Sukuna and one that somehow was able to control Sukuna, too. Yuji is a perfect vessel.
Thinking about it more, and it's just a thought, what if Kenjaku had been involved in Sukuna's birth somehow and is the reason why he turned out the way he is?
Not saying I'm right, but hear me out!
Picture this. What if Sukuna's parents asked Kenjaku for some kind of favor dealing with a child? Kenjaku took it as an opportunity to test out a few things and what if during Sukuna's growth in his mother's womb, it wasn't just him? There could have been another twin and yet Kenjaku may have done something that resulted in Sukuna's having the deformities he has? The four eyes, the four arms? Hell, you know it's been said some people have "eaten" their twin in the womb? Sukuna could have done that and because of Kenjaku, however Sukuna had been birthed was the result.
Sukuna mentions he was an unwanted child and maybe, just maybe it was because he didn't turn out how his parents imagined him to be and could have abandoned him. And if they did, Kenjaku possibly could have gotten their hands on Sukuna and looked after him for their own purposes.
But why? Well, my guess is to use him later as a tool for at least one of the reasons, but also just another case of wanting to experiment with souls and the human body.
Now, bringing back Yuji. What if Sukuna could have also had two souls, one that would belong to his intended twin, when he was a baby?
When Kenjaku made Sukuna's fingers into cursed objects, they also took the soul Sukuna host for his intended twin to later create Yuji. It seems wild, but hey, this is Kenjaku and almost anything is possible in JJK.
I think about what Mai talked about with Maki in chapter 149. (So spoiler alert ahead.)
She mentions how twins are considered a bad omen to sorcerers. To gain something, you have to sacrifice something. (Indentical) twins are considered one individual by cursed techniques. "I am you and you are me."
Let's apply this to Sukuna and Yuji.
To gain something, you have to sacrifice something -> Sukuna's birth, but the sacrifice was his would be twin.
Twins are considered one individual -> As the theory suggests, Yuji and Sukuna are like twins. After some rewatches and rereads, I realized that as different as they are, Yuji and Sukuna do be having quite a bit of similarities (I already made a few posts about such and I'm working on another). It's like they are one individual.
Twins are considered bad omens -> Sukuna brings nothing but pain and Yuji only feels pain and also consider that the people around Yuji has something bad happen to them.
Going off that last point, think about the Zenin and Hasaba twins. The Hasaba twins were killed by Sukuna and even their backstory is nothing but sad. Before Suguru took them in, the village saw them as the cause for their misfortune and mistreated them. Nanako and Mimiko only had each other. Same for the Zenin twins. They were mistreated by their clan and even if they fell out for a time, Mai and Maki are still close and only had each other. Both cases of the twins end badly. For the Hasaba twins, again, they are killed. For Maki and Mai, Mai dies.
Circling back to Yuji and Sukuna, here's something I see that the two have in common, kind of.
They're both loners.
They are surrounded by people, and yet they never really truly fit into a place. Sukuna reigns as the "King of Curses" and does as he pleases but he just never seem truly satisfied to me. It's like he's a part of himself is missing. That doesn't mean I'm excluding Uraume. Uraume is Sukuna's bestie, for real. Think about how he treats others. He's all for a good fight and impressed by some. If someone or something annoys him, he eliminates. It's a repeating cycle for him.
For Yuji, he remarks to Noritoshi that he's always been a loner. He does have friends, Megumi and Nobara, and even the upperclassmen from his previous school. Also peep the middle school flashback. The boys were discussing girls, but what was Yuji doing? Reading off to the side. He engaged in the conversation when addressed, but other than that, he is alone. Going back to Megumi and Nobara, the same episode shows Yuji going off on his own. Nobara goes shopping and Megumi was going home.
Yuji often tends to do a lot of things alone and even if it's with someone, like fighting a villain, it's not like he seeks out the help, at first. Instead, he syncs up with that person with the time comes for it.
While surrounded by people, some that do have positive relationship with, it just always seem they were missing something or someone in their lives.
What if like Maki and Mai... Nanako and Mimiko... they were meant to be twins? They seemed lonely because they did not have his twin with him?
To summarize, yeah, I'm on board with that theory. Cursed energy probably did treat the two like twins just as Mai and Maki were because... what if they were meant to be twins.
I mentioned this a while back. In this post, I wrote about what of the soul technique Yuji is going to use was the technique that Sukuna had? He seemed familiar with it. Now what if, that was a technique that could have been one Sukuna's twin was meant to have?
Just something I wanted to throw out there.
