**SPOILER WARNING FOR THE RED WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE MOVIE**
This movie was very entertaining. It hit all the beats of a great rom-com. I personally enjoyed the music a lot, even if it was at times very different from the music in the book. Nicholas Galitzine was a standout of the main cast for me - he really made me feel Henry’s angst just like the book did, and I think this is a character that the film truly did justice. My personal favorite character from the movie though was Zahra - Sarah Shahi was absolutely incredible. She had fantastic comedic timing and her dynamic with Alex, Henry, Shaan, and Ellen. I really enjoyed Bea, Nora, & Pez as well, although I think they were severely underused and I kinda hated how the Nora/Pez dynamic worked without June. I think the romance was beautiful - I particularly enjoyed the polo scene, the karaoke scene, the Texas stuff, and the V&A museum.
I also laughed out loud a ton during the movie. Zahra’s scenes were hilarious, and the royal wedding/cake debacle was handled perfectly. I miss June here a bit, but I generally was very satisfied with how it all went down. Also, despite many fans early fears of a lack of chemistry between Nick and Taylor, I thought their chemistry was fantastic. Maybe not the best I’ve ever seen, but it was definitely believable, entertaining, and one of the most compelling parts of the story.
I also liked that we got more of Henry’s POV than we did in the book. It didn’t add a ton in my opinion, but I do think it allowed Nicholas Galitzine to show off his acting chops. I think the heart of the book remains, and after the press/everything I’d heard about the movie going into it, I was pleasantly surprised with how the political stuff was handled. Alex’s arc with Texas in particular was beautiful, and I think the end of the movie left me with a similar feeling to the book.
As for things I didn’t love, and I will say there were kind of a lot of small things, I’ve made a list that I’m sure no one cares much to read.
I missed June a lot. I identify a lot with her character, and although I totally understand why she was cut out (I do think in the book she serves less plot purpose than Nora), I actually think the choice to exclude her made even less sense after seeing the movie than before seeing it. Nora and Alex’s relationship felt very underdeveloped in the movie, and none of the romantic elements that I thought made their relationship important to the book ended up mattering at all in the movie. He kisses a different girl on New Year’s, there’s no mention of a sexual history between them, there’s no fake dating setup to detract from Alex/Henry, and Nora’s just generally absent. I feel like June would’ve served that purpose fine if not better.
The romance felt kind of rushed. The whole Christmas phone call that imo is so crucial to Henry & Alex’s relationship and character development doesn’t happen at all (probably because his parents are still together), and I didn’t have like a timer or clock or anything but it felt like the 100 or so pages leading up to the NYE kiss was like less than 20 minutes.
I hated that Alex’s parents were happily married, and I think it massively takes away from his character development. His arc honestly fell very short for me which is disappointing since he’s a character I identify so closely with. I don’t feel like they do his like major anxiety justice, and I think he goes from kinda being an idealist, reckless dummy to being a heartfelt, romantic, ready for a big commitment guy in the span of a few minutes.
I honestly could’ve done without the sex scenes. They were good, and I could tell the intimacy coordinator slayed with this one, but they were more explicit than the book imo (especially the one in Paris), and while I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, I would’ve much rather had more fade to black so as to save screen time to develop the romance more at the beginning.
I didn’t enjoy the Miguel character at all. He has no character development, and I do not at all understand how this character is the Luna/Liam blend he was promoted as. He functions as a ruthless journalist who despite being queer himself decides to out Henry and Alex to the entire world, and we NEVER get an explanation for why. It’s alluded to that maybe Miguel had feelings for Alex and did it because he resented Alex for not feeling the same? But like, he literally outed two prominent figures to the entire world at risk of benefitting a homophobic predator running for office. And he never apologizes? Or faces any repercussions???? Like this is just kind of there?? And that is NOT AT ALL Rafael Luna or Liam who are both generally speaking positive forces in Alex’s life. I just don’t get it at all.
This is a personal issue I had that most probably don’t care about, but I’m from Minnesota, and seeing Minnesota red in the movie was infuriating. MN is not a swing state, never really has been, and was basically the only state in the upper midwest to stay blue in the 2016 election. I’m biased because this is my home state, but MN would NEVER vote red and I’m kinda just annoyed at the implication that it did instead of them just choosing to blame it on all the actual swing states.
Okay those are my thoughts. I doubt anyone cares that much, but I needed to get it out of my system. I will say I really enjoyed the movie, and I can see why the bulk of reviews are positive. I think anyone who didn’t read the book won’t feel like anything is missing, and fans of the book will for the most part still really enjoy it. I will definitely be rewatching when it comes out officially on Amazon Prime tomorrow, and I can see myself rewatching hundreds more times in the future. But it sort of needs to exist independent of the book for me, I guess. And that’s okay! I think everyone involved did a great job with the adaptation, and I look forward to watching it again.

omg ponyo was also one of my favourites as a kid!! one time i even brought it to school and got upset bc nobody else wanted to watch it they wanted some dumb horse movie instead (-_-)
anyway i’ve watched it so much that the disk skips now 。・゜・(ノД`)・゜・。 but! i did get the artbook for it a couple years ago and god it’s just such a gorgeous movie and a huge comfort ♡(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑) i’m literally cuddled in my ponyo blanket as we speak
also really love tangled, & totally agree on wanting to live it. the adventure, the lights, rapunzel and flynn having insane chemistry together ahh (〃ω〃) it’s such a good movie i should rewatch it soon! i feel like it’s got great au potential as well. poor riddle locked in his tower…. :(
i like to think that the twst boys would really enjoy tangled and the ghibli movies (as all people should)! octa would probably find the peaceful harmony of the sea in ponyo a very interesting change from what they’re used to (and pester you about getting a kiss so they can live on land. dummy that’s what the potion is for >:[ )
in conclusion, movie night at ramshackle w everybody! \\\\٩( ^ω^ )و ////
Ponyo is such a wonderful film aaaaaa!!! I love it so much. >w< all of the Studio Ghibli films are beautiful and filled with magic. But Ponyo was the one I watched most when I was a child! :D it's still one of my favorites even today.
AAAAA TANGLED AU WITH RIDDLE........ omg that's so perfect. The idea of Riddle with very long hair is a cute thought. <3 he deserves to go on an adventure and fall in love with his darling and make many fun memories!!!! Tangled has such great au potential uuwaaa,,, the plot is so enjoyable. I love plots where the characters have a deal that means they must tolerate the other in order to get what they want (for Flynn it was the crown and for Rapunzel it was getting to see the lanterns) until all of that inevitably changes when they grow closer!!!! The dynamic is so wonderful... orz
Octavinelle liking Ponyo!!!! AAAAA YES YES!!! >0< this is very true. If anyone's going to be a fan of the Ghibli films, it's 100% Idia!!!! Omg he would love all of them so much. Movie night at Ramshackle or even Ignihyde means he's going to play all of his favorites, and the Ghibli films naturally have to be part of that!!!

Russell T Davies "restarts" Doctor Who.
Immediately The Doctor meets an adventurous 19 year old bottle blonde and makes her his companion, and who has enough onscreen chemistry with the doctor that they might end up a tragic love interest.
Theory 1: their like his practice dummies. Start with the adventurous 19 year old bottle blonde who is liable to get a crush on a fast talking doubly adventurous conventionally attractive man, get a feel for things. Then build out from there.
Theory 2: There was something he didn't like about the Rose run so he decided to do a soft reset on that too. The next few series are just him addressing issues he had with his old work by laying the same foundations and then going in a totally different direction. Instead of getting a crush Ruby and The Doctor sibling zone each other HARD.

Ghostbusters OC
(everyone posting about their oc x canon ships gave me the confidence to post mine lol)
Name: Dulcie Renata Santoro
Age: 25 (GB I), 30 (GB II), 62 (GB: Afterlife), 65 (GB: Frozen Empire)
Ethnicity: Sicilian American
Occupation: PhD Student; Biochemistry/Ghostbuster Intern (GB I) Former model/Biochemist/Ghostbuster (GB II) Former Private Investigator/Biochemistry Professor at Yale (GB: Afterlife and Frozen Empire)
Face Claim: Monica Bellucci
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personality: Dulcie is an energetic, fun-loving lady with a kind heart and romantic soul. She has a deep love for her chemistry work and grows to love paranormal sciences just as much when she starts her work as an intern for the Ghostbusters. She's a bright scientist who pours her heart into every one of her passions and interests. Dulcie is a very expressive person and it's hard for her to hide her true feelings (in other words she's a horrible liar). She has some baggage from her childhood and from her past love life but bottles it up in fear of being vulnerable (she has bad trust issues and abandonment issues).
Silly Facts About Her:
- Dulcie speaks 3 languages fluently: English (no duh), Italian, and French
- She is a notoriously horrible cook (ironic considering her line of work is literally the same thing except you know... one is more useful for daily life)
- Dulcie has a love for the finer things in life; especially designer clothes. (She's a ✨style icon✨)
- Dulcie is a relatively brave person... except for her fear of puppets/ventriloquist dummies (she gets made fun of mercilessly by the rest of the team when they find out)
- Dulcie has a ragdoll breed cat named Neptune. She's a very proud cat mom who carries polaroids of her to show everyone at the fire station.
- Dulcie is a big fan of ABBA and Duran Duran, constantly blasting their music on the small radio in the lab. Egon gifted her a walkman for her birthday so she could listen to her music without disturbing his peace 24/7.
- Dulcie is a total party girl and loves to go clubbing with her friends (she's a total menace on the dance floor)
And that's it for now! I have a few things I want to write and post related to her (especially related to her relationship with Egon). She's a very self indulgent character but idc it's fun to be cringe <3

My changes for Vat7k
I got a new idea for the fanfiction which develops Hugo to be imperfect but at the same time grew to have a complex and developed relationship with Varian, as well as giving Nuru and Yong more time to develop and show up in more chapters and such. I do stand by and accept your points and they can be valid and it makes me wanna change up the concept of Vat7k as a whole. Maybe include Varian's attributes of season 3's character and make him the former criminal of the town before he was a citizen of Corona and the rest of the seven kingdoms as well as me giving Nuru, Yong and Hugo to have different types of scientists to not copy Varian's:
Hugo: He would be an engineer, physistic and mineralogist but bear in mind that he can't be perfect so I put more emphasis on his criminal background.
And be like the engineer version of Eugene Fitzherbert. He would be a contrast to him because of their career differences and how they’d affect personality. Eugene is a lone thief in the past and therefore Hugo would be like the 2.0 of him, he steals for himself and for profit. He’s basically self-employed!
Yong: He’s mainly got experience with pyrotechnics, he’d be good for defence.
Yong's got a unique background in that he’s very into a specific type of chemistry which is probably different from Varian's. And Yong does have a background in mechanics and is useful in equations and he's a firecracker. He probably knows a bit about temperature science, which might be helpful for a specific task.
Nuru: Nuru's science is astrology, an old kind of astronomy and meteorology, that also includes airflow on the planet. She could probably fill in the team's role as navigator of the group.
Nuru has been studying princess things a lot of her life a lot of that stemming from the fact that she does know other kingdoms and placements, so I can add in geography as a form of her interests and if I create her some kind of background and story a little less sheltered she’d be a good cultural consultant which in turn she’d need to know about neighbouring kingdoms to do politics well and she’d also probably be a good communicator, she’d be good at convincing people to do things for the group.
And we just leave Quirin behind like that in most fanworks.
Donella is totally down for overthrowing the rich and if she was a mob boss alongside being the royal engineer then she could make a lot of connections and identify different targets, just sayin’… I have this idea of her being raised by a librarian/scholar/academic type person so she’s raised with a strong appreciation for knowledge. Ulla’s main goal in getting to the Eternal Library was to find out more about magic so Donella’s goal could have something to do with the economic divide in Iingvar, trying to decrease the poverty rates or Maybe that’s why she takes in Hugo, perhaps there are other kids who work for her in exchange for a safe shelter.
Cus of this, Hugo is a double agent.
Everyone just forgets Cyrus once in a while, I personally think that he and Donella met when she did the iron trial and did something that he feels indebted to her, not sure exactly what but you don’t gain loyal followers for doing nothing. He was definitely a young Hugo’s training dummy/babysitter/jungle gym and as Hugo got older it was more trying to get a reaction out of him.
I mean, Cyrus is stoic and doesn’t talk much and stays completely silent.
As he’ll often lend an ear but whether he’s actually paying attention is up for debate. When he does talk! I reckon he gives great advice and he is probably a good and supportive person to vent to.
And why do Varian's relatives have to have the same features as him?
Buck teeth
Big eyes
Freckles
Literally, these are meant to make Varian unique.

Dramas I watched this past month! The month of the rewatch. (Also spoilers!)
Crush (cdrama) 6.5
This had such a strong start and then went downhill bad (like really bad).
Psychology student decides to sort of intern (? at a special education school and meets a blind braille teacher there. There’s also music involved.
Like in most cdramas I’ve watched, everyone behaves like a twelve-year-old, and the conflict starts out of things that an adult should be able to prevent. The main couple drastically changes in the second half, and it’s like you are watching a whole other drama.
Into the Ring (kdrama) (rewatch) 10 ⭐️
My eternal love to Nana in this (and in general. I’m in love with her). Se Ra is probably my favorite FL from all the dramas I’ve watched.
I remember being very skeptical the first time I saw this (because politics, kinda boring?) but it was so worth it.
Park Sung Hoon is also such an excellent companion to all of her craziness. His and Nana's chemistry was one of the best ones. The awkward but somehow very comfortable atmosphere you feel while watching them is next level. Still one of my favorite dramas. 10/10, I adore it.
Doona! (kdrama) 8
I still have mixed feelings about this one. The sort of angst romance was on point. Actors were good, narrative was fast-paced and kept me entertained. Doona is presented as a complex character and so the story even with happy moments, feels very bittersweet. But even with all that, I feel like I'd have to watch it again because there’s something that puts me off but I can’t quite decide what it is exactly.
I also want to know why they had her wearing tiny tank tops and shorts in snowy winter lol…
A Business Proposal (kdrama) (rewatch) 8.5
The first time I watched a business proposal I didn’t really like it. I thought it was way too cliche and absurd and dropped it after the third episode. It was the fourth kdrama I had watched after Crash Landing on You, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, and Twenty-Five Twenty-One so like… it had big shoes to fill in. I came back to it eventually and finished it.
Now after rewatching… I think learned to appreciate a good over-the-top rom-com (they became my favorites lol) and this definetly hits all the boxes. It feels like an instant classic. Also music 10/10.
Usokon (jdrama) 7
If it is marriage contract/fake dating then sign me the fuck up!!! Usokon started strong but at some point (around episode 8/9) I started getting frustrated. We know that there are feelings involved, but nobody is doing anything about it. The ML (even though he absolutely steals the show) doesn’t do anything to move forward, and the FL is too clueless to make a move. And so there’s not enough romance in a drama that is primarily romantic since the main focus is their fake marriage/ relationship. Also, it had such a frustrating ending!!!
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (kdrama) 7,5 ⭐️
Nothing beats old kdramas, they have such a particular nostalgic vibe that makes you unable to stop watching. My girlfriend is a gumiho was so sooo stupid, childish, and even cringe, but so cute!!! Every time Shin Min Ah and Lee Seung Gi were together on screen I couldn’t stop smiling. I can totally see this one becoming a comfort drama. Another one with soundtrack 10/10.
Daily Dose of Sunshine (kdrama) 9
I read somewhere that this was like a mental health for dummies book, and to be honest, it’s kind of like that, but it works so well! The way they visualized mental disorders was so creative, I was impressed.
All the characters were intriguing enough to keep me going. Everyone had something to offer here. Even the patients from each episode.
Watching this felt deeply sad yet deeply comforting as well. Park Bo Young absolutely kills it (as usual. QUEEN).
Twinkling Watermelon (kdrama) 9.5
This one was pure gold. Time travel to meet the younger version of your parents? Sign me fuck up. The idea of sending Eun Gyeol back in time to try to understand his family and live his youth is such a cool (and emotional af) premise. It had the ideal balance of comedy and emotion. I feel like sixteen episodes weren’t enough. I could have sat there for another twenty episodes watching those teenagers being silly lol.

Finally gave in and started watching High School Musical The Musical The Series and I’m caught up and I have to say the way they keep dirtying EJ is completely bullshit. And making a love triangle when Gina and EJ had something so special and sweet and now they’re gonna ruin it and backtrack just to keep Ricky the “leading man”. It’s such a waste.  Like don’t get me wrong I can see the appeal of Gina and Ricky, I really do, but I also think he had his chance and it was a long time ago and her relationship with EJ really shouldn’t be dismissed or defused for Ricky to “get the girl” it’s not fair and it’s not solid writing after how well they wrote Gina and EJ getting together. She was over Ricky, for real, why make her backslide like that? Why undo everything that has been put into EJ and his character and being a better person? Just because Ricky has finally let go of Nina and is ready to meet someone right for him doesn’t mean he gets to go back to a girl he had a connection and acted like a dummy towards her about it. Gina deserved a lot better than the total blow off he gave her, at least some recognition of her confession and feelings but he didn’t want to deal with it and he made her feel like shit and question if she really belonged with all of them and EJ clearly makes her feel like she is right where she belongs and erasing that and making EJ behave badly and keep secrets after all his growth is cheap and if they really wanted to make Ricky and Gina endgame they shouldn’t have made EJ ‘the guy that shows up for her’ like we’ve been getting fed crumbs for both ships for 3 seasons, and EJ was building something with Gina while Ricky was basically ignoring her existence over his Nina drama and EJ deserves better than to be ‘bad guy zoned’ and ‘lose the girl’.  They were so happy for a minute. And it’s already going downhill. and honestly it seems like the reason they’re going this route is because while Gina could be in a healthy relationship and be happy with pretty much any guy because she has great chemistry with everyone, Ricky can only be shipped with Gina, he and Nina were so not healthy and instead of pairing him with someone new they are going back to Gina because she’s amazing and they missed their chance and I really do see what they have, they get each other, but they’ve already established that EJ and Gina also get each other, so it just feels like Nina went away and they had to find something to do with Ricky and Gina and EJ were supposed to be endgame but now they’re changing plans. I just want EJ to get what he deserves and we got like a two minute healthy Portwell relationship and it’s already crumbling over Ricky and it’s just stupid.

🌟Mfred's Best Books of 2022🌟
Comfort Me with Apples by Cathrynne M. Valente
Original Review
It’s a fairy tale retold, a myth re-examined. It’s a mystery, a thriller, and a horror story. But it’s so much more, too. I was mesmerized - trying to understand what was going on, then understanding too much, with a dawning sense of horror at how it would all end.
The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo by Kerrigan Byrne
Original Review
This book put me through the wringer, you guys. I came out the other end definitely dehydrated from crying so much, but also filled to the brim with love and life.
Even Though I Knew the End by CL Polk
Sapphic. Urban Fantasy. Noir. Do I need to say more? OK, I will anyway! Chicago in the winter. Dames smoking Chesterfields and hunting serial killers. Underground queer nightclubs. And magic! And a swoony romance!
Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White
Original Review
Don’t be fooled, Benji is really turning into a monster. White pulls no punches. Bloody, gruesome, and terrifying. It’s so queer, so righteously angry, so necessarily vengeful. But it also holds a place for the tenderness and hope we all need to truly survive.
Thirteens by Kate Alice Marshall
A spooky and super creepy Halloween read, especially for a children’s book! Plus, the power of friendship, loyalty, and believing in yourself.
The Mind and the Moon: My Brother's Story, the Science of Our Brains, and the Search for Our Psyches by Daniel Bergner
Challenges the science behind mental illness and standard pharmaceutical treatments. At once eye-opening, engrossing, and also emotional.
A Mirror Mended by Alix E. Harrow
Lucky you! If you didn’t read the first in this series, you now get to read both amazing books! This time we see what happens when the Evil Queen wants a better ending to her story. And also what it means to survive a happy ending.
My Killer Vacation by Tessa Bailey
Original Review
I loved Myles. I loved his struggle. Every time Taylor did or said something, his heart clenched or he got sweaty or he desperately wanted to kiss her. He’s big, he’s tattooed, he’s unshaven and rides a motorcycle and he is a total dummy about his emotions. It’s great.
Paper Girls, Vols 1-6 by Brian K. Vaughn, Cliff Chiang, Matt Wilson, & Jared K. Fletcher
Friendship! Time travel! The 1980s! A war between teenagers vs. grownups! This graphic novel series has it all. And the artwork is amazing.
Patricia Wants to Cuddle by Samantha Allen
Ok, how do you feel about The Bachelor? Cryptids? Horrifically funny violence? This book is so weird and also so, so amazing.
Runaway Girl by Tessa Bailey
A poor little rich girl who really isn’t and a bear of a man dealing with unimaginable loss. Slow burn but awesome tension and chemistry throughout. Plus, the emotional wallop of falling in love. Everything good about romance novels.
Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison
Original Review
Amazing. A novel about anger, trauma, families, romance, trusting others, and werewolves. It really takes a good, hard look at why and when and how and how often we get angry– and how we treat others and ourselves when we rage. The werewolf metaphor is grrrreat (see what I did there?) for examining what it means to be an angry woman, in/out of control.
We Keep the Dead Close: A Murder at Harvard and a Half Century of Silence by Becky Cooper
Original Review
It took me almost two months to finish this book. But it wasn’t boring or slow. In fact, for such a lengthy book, it’s a real page turner. And it’s a fascinating blend of true crime, non fiction and memoir– how Cooper finds her own voice in the story of Jane Britton’s murder.

We all love the Hardshine ship. But it would be very funny and 100% Hardwon’s luck if Moonshine dated his mom. Lydia Stormborn is hot, smart, goth, and powerful. They have chemistry. I just think it’d be really fucking funny.
Imagine: Old enemies of the Stormborns come for revenge and when Moonshine opposes them, they’re like, “Why would you risk your life for a Stormborn?” And Moonshine replies, “Because I’m in love with a Stormborn.” Hardwon puffs his chest thinking he’s hot shit, super cocky like a total dummy only to look down and see Moonshine take Lydia’s hand. Scene ends with a classic Beverly gasp.

My writing turned totally around in Jan 2022. I was editing my latest NaNoWriMo project, and decided to check out a resource I found on nanowrimo.org to help me. Basically, I wanted help to write a dynamite blurb, or tagline. When I create a new story, I use a LibreOffice template I created to put my title page, copyright page with a sentence describing what the story's about, TOC, and a dummy first paragraph with my first dummy paragraph heading.
I wanted to know how to write better taglines.
So I read the article above and the light bulb went on! Simple. Elegant. Plotting.
I had always been a pantser. Never planned any part of my stories, and I have about 650 of 'em, half not even to the first draft. Dedicated pantser. In my teen years, I hated English literature in 8th grade even though I knew I needed to know how to plot, but all the analysis of the books we read [and I enjoyed reading them] just made me feel like, 'I'm too stupid to learn all this.'
Now, I'm reading these 10 steps and had an epiphany!
So, I broke down Step 1 and made it into my worksheet for coming up with taglines.
Here's how I think about those 15 max words to get it done:
One Sentence Summary: Adj.+Noun+Verb+Obj [Worker] [Action] [Effect] in 15 words or less Character With Most To Lose: What They Want:
So, for Adia, Scientist, here's what I came up with:
Discouraged scientist must discover a new fuel so her colony can escape from war.
I write science fiction and I loved chemistry in college, so, hey, I like formulas. I don't want my writing to sound like it came from a formula, but if you look at a lot of genres, there is one.
If you read enough romances, like my sister did, you figure out there's a pattern you can follow as a writer. I was there when she did. She went on to become famous and actually got an award presented to her in New York from her idol, Barbara Cartland at a writer's conference.
I--uh, I'm the non-famous sister who self-publishes on Amazon. But I enjoy my writing life, and though I do love to put romance in my books, romance writing is not my thing.
However, if you're like me and you want to improve your writing, Snowflake Method does work for a lot of us. And, if you buy one of Randy Ingermanson's very entertaining books, you get a free copy of his Snowflake Pro software, which walks you through each step and lets you see what you wrote in the previous step.
I don't do all 10 steps. Let's face it, I'm a plantser now. I'm not that meticuolous and organized. But, I do most of them, because Steps 1-5 give me a nice head start. And, Steps 3, 5 and 7 concentrate on your characters. Characters make your story. If you don't have a character that grabs your reader from the first chapter, why will they want to read your story? You have to have someone to care about and they have to have something happening that attracts the reader.
Now that I had a loose framework for my stories, I needed to [finally] learn something about plot structure more than the beginning, 3 disasters, and an ending. Randy does an excellent job of simplifying 3 act structure [though there are other methods such as PlotDot or Save The Cat that also work with Snowflake Method].
Another resource I found while exploring resources in the Now What? Revision pages on nanowrimo.org was K. M. Weiland's wonderful site:
This lady puts 3 act structure into terms that I can understand, and she has a vast database of books and movies that she's analyzed for us. If you think 3 act structure is complicated and boring, try reading a little of your favorite on this list:
I love the Marvel movies, so here's how she summarized The Avengers.
And she even mentions how what works in this movie would not, in a book. This is something I read time and time again about science fiction writing. Science fiction movies are not 'true' science fiction, for the most part. Star Wars is fantasy set on other planets. Star Trek has science in it, but again, is science fantasy.
In science fiction, science drives the story more than characters or plot. Though, to make my science fiction more accessible to a wider audience, I choose to concentrate on psychology, particularly interpersonal relationships. I do make sure that my science is feasible and believable, and explain it simply. And, I do my research.
So, when writing a book, it's good to see analyses like this of movies, but remember, it's different for books.
A friend who was also a producer told me, for a two-hour movie, you have to choose about two chapters for your script. The director has to insert some points to connect the dots. That's why many movies 'aren't like the book' they're based upon. It's an art to take a book and condense it like that so it still makes sense and absorbs the viewer.
But, we writers can learn much from movies about character development and how to get our readers involved with them, and with our stories.

I feel bad for the credible actors that have had to work alongside Harry. Since Fionn Witehead, it’s been more than apparent that none of these professional actors like him or enjoy having entire press conferences hijacked by his uncontrollable desire to be the centre of attention at all times. Florence obviously hates him, and why wouldn’t she? She’s an acclaimed actress who had to work her way up…sharing top billing with a random pop star who can barely hardly deliver a coherent sentence. David Dawson and Emma Corrin don’t seem to ~adore~ him half as much as his stans are pretending they do. Sure, they seem cordial enough — because they don’t want to be bullied relentlessly by his vicious fanbase. It’s all so laughable, honestly
It's fascinating. Even Angelina Jolie was very dismissive of him and when asked if her kids were excited to meet him she immediately pivoted right to how excited they were to meet Ma Dong-Seok after having watched Train to Busan. She also recently attended a Maneskin concert with Shiloh and looked very passionate about it, knowing all the lyrics... so far neither has shown up to a Harry Styles concert, despite how many he's done in the US.
I think also it's so noticeable he thought he could carry the cutesy little rogueish interviews where he'd sort of play off Niall or Liam and people would find him charming in contrast as they played the straight man and he'd get to do his little brattish thing, but in a way he thought was charming. Also him trying desperately to create these forced bromance/ship moments between them, something he immediately tried doing with Mitch as well but that flopped. Fionn was not interested in any of that and could see right through it.
I remember at the time not buying into the Narry bromance despite how many people in the fandom did. It was so clearly forced and a thing mostly forced by Harry. Niall was like Fionn, looking so tired by him and so exhausted by his need to steal the limelight and trying to be deliberately cutesy when it didn't feel natural or wasn't really how they interacted in private or in real life. Just a forced thing for the cameras. And what happened after 1D, Niall and Harry barely acted like the other was alive. Because none of that faux cutesy bromancey stuff Harry was pushing had been real, it had all been a thing Harry knew fans would eat up, and that was it. That's all Harry thinks about in these interactions. How will it play? Will the fans make a little montage of this? Will people talk about how charming and likable and fun I am?
It's very very noticeable how boring and tedious his supposed charm must get after a while. He acted like a self indulged brat in both interview sessions. First of course just giggling and giving dummy answers and trying to be cutesy to Gemma or whatever in Venice, then in Toronto he has to try and hog Emma's limelight and try and attempt a forced viral "cute" moment and totally tries to steal all the attention. It's so boring. And one of the reasons it's so boring is it's so forced. He doesn't even seem to really feel any of this. There's no real chemistry between him and anyone else as he does these things. It's all very him him him.
It's also clear that in private he does nothing to maintain these friendships or relationships. His social circle for years has just been the Azoffs, Winston, Corden, the Gerbers, Xander and girlfriend and now Olivia. That's literally it. A bunch of people most of us would steer well clear from. His fans want us to believe the most charming interesting endearing empathetic man on the planet has just managed to be completely friendless from everyone else by choice?

By anonymous request, today we present to you Mr. Incredible!
Bob Parr, AKA Mr. Incredible, is one of the eponymous Incredibles from the Disney movie The Incredibles, released in 2004, and its sequel The Incredibles 2, released in 2018. The movie details the lives of retired superhero Bob and his quest to get his groove back amidst a villainous plot, and his family's desire to find a place for themselves in a world that has left superheroes behind. Bob plays an important role not only because he is the main character, but in his depiction of a man going through his midlife crisis, and how he handles navigating working alone and incorporating the people he loves.
Even by the exaggerated standards of Pixar animation, Bob Parr is packing serious cake. Our man is towering and apple-shaped even at his lowest point, often having to bend down to stay in the frame when speaking to other people. And at his peak of superheroing, he's a force to reckoned with, able to take on one crime scene after another in quick succession, and even after his retirement we can see that he's still got the good stuff, making use of a trainyard as his gym. Man goes from a 50-inch waist to a 36 in less than a month. Mad respect.
Even less subtle than Bob's frame is his strict adherence to his moral code. His drive to protect the public stems from a deep well of kindness, and although in later years his desire to return to being a superhero could be argued to be rooted in ego and a nostalgia for his glory days (heavily implying a mid-life crisis), we see several instances of Bob's ferocious malicious compliance in his job as an insurance claims adjustor. He knows what the business side wants him to do, but he goes out of his way to be kind in a situation that most would find soul-draining. He's certainly not in insurance for the money.
Secondary to his desire to serve the public using his immense power is his love and devotion to his family - especially his wife, fellow retired superhero Helen AKA Elastigirl. During Bob's training montage, we see them behave as a loving couple, supportive and helpful and decidedly frisky. Man sure does love his wife (referring to her at one point as the perfect woman, and deflecting attempts at a fight by telling her how much he loves her), but what we don't explicitly see is how they met and fell in love. We do certainly get some hints, though, in the opening scene of the movie a young Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl collaborate to take down a crook and flirt with enough tangible chemistry that it makes the crook uncomfortable. It isn't stated outright, but even watching the scene once you just know that these two young heroes have absolutely done the dirty on a rooftop somewhere before they even knew each other's names. This is a kid's movie, guys.
Alas, we must come to Mr. Incredible's largest downfall in himbodom, and the reason for his rating today: his intelligence. It would be easy to mark Mr. Incredible down as a dumb lug, but it would be at your peril. Due to the movie's influences of classic golden age superheroes and noir detectives and secret agents, we see often and loudly Mr. Incredible's intellectual prowess. Not simply in defeating the mechanical monstrosity, which we could attribute to combat experience and instincts, but we also actively see him investigate and put together a convoluted plot to kill him. Although he has his moments (such as wondering why his ice-powered partner could not pull water from the air in a burning building), he's no dummy, and one could argue that Bob's largest weaknesses are his ego and his naievety. That sly dog even got his villain monologuing!
That man sure does incredible, but unfortunately, he is no himbo.
Total Himbo Score: 18

I’ve always thought it was weird how in fanon brittana are portrayed as not being able to keep their hands off each other and being explicit in front of everyone. Like Santana literally had trouble holding Brittany’s hand without a napkin or giving her more than a peck in the hallway? And you expect me to believe they’re making out at any spare moment company be damned?? I think maybe people saw the show do its weird fetishy camera angles and make them mention scissoring at any opportunity and jumped to some weird conclusions. As fanon tends to do I suppose.
Ooh a Brittana ask... I don't know if I have a lot to say about them tbh anon...
Lmao well obviously first of all I try to avoid any extraneous Brittana content outside of what I'm forced to witness while watching the show so I can't really speak on what the fandom is doing to them but that's not surprising
Also in all fairness in s1 Brittana are always totally touchy feely like holding hands, resting their heads on each other's shoulders, touching each other's arms and legs lmao. And I doubt they were being directed that way so like I guess Heather and Naya were just vibing? Good for them. Brittana's best season truly was season one, when they barely spoke and had zero plotlines. And Brittany still managed to out Santana in a crowded school hallway two seasons before Finn did. What a trailblazer. Couple goals 5eva!!
Also now that I think about it. And I may be wrong but. The only like fetishy male gaze-y camera angle I can think of is just when we first see them together and the camera slowly pans up their legs to them "kissing" (Santana's face in Brittany's neck while they make vague kissing movements ??) And even that can kind of be justified bc like it was a slow pan around Brittany's room in general, and seeing her making out with Santana was kind of treated as A Reveal you know?? So like yeah it is kind of oggly but also it kind of makes sense in context?? Idk, your mileage may vary, ig
(Like the show had a problem with sexualizing their teenage characters in general, which is a whole other discussion. So idk I wouldn't say the problem is exclusive to Brittana?)
But the scissoring comments. Oh god, the scissoring comments. First of all like. Maybe it's just that I think I'm somewhere on the ace spectrum aklsjfsl but just hearing two hot girls talk about scissoring is not hot to meee. Like. It was a fucking joke. It was written as a literal Joke. It does nothing for me bc I cannot take it seriously in the context of their stupid relationship
And sorry not sorry but like. Brittana have no fucking chemistry alksfjdsklf. And I think that's mostly due to Heather's acting. Like Naya had amazing chemistry with literally anyone she was in a scene with but with Heather. Like you could replace her with a literally dummy with a pull string that plays one of six Hilarious Deadpan One Liners and the scene would be the same. She really feels like furniture half the time alsfjskdgjdsl I'm probably going too hard but I'm being honest
I don't believe Brittana as a real relationship. Like there is literally no reason for these two characters to be together. Brittany says Santana is nice, ignoring Santana's constant barrage of racist, homophobic, antisemitic, fatphobic, transphobic comments towards her classmates. Bc Santana is nice to her.
Except no, she's not. She thinks Brittany is too stupid to cross the street on her own, loves that she's easy to manipulate, and even implied she was stupid to her face with comments like "breakfast is confusing for you" and then straight up reacting to her dumb statements like she's an idiot. To her face.
And Santana claims she thinks Brittany is so nice and smart when again, she knows she's not. And when Brittany is just as rotten and offensive as Santana is to their supposed best friends. They're two vile horrible people who bring out the worst in each other. When they're apart, Santana grows a personality and gets better, and Brittany may as well not exist. I love when they're apart <3
Anyway my main point was they have no chemistry, I just felt like going off on a tangent uwu
ALSO to tie into the scissoring paragraph lol. There was one old Glee Confession I saw once like. "How can people say Brittana have no chemistry?? Brittany literally popped a hip having sex once!" And that's a part of my absolute favorite story telling device that no writers can seem to follow...
Show, don't tell
You are telling me Brittana scissor all the time and Brittany popped a hip during sex. Ok. I'm hearing that with my ears. But what I'm seeing on the screen with my eyes is not lining up with that. Like Brittana can talk til they're blue in the face about all the wild and crazy sex they have but if watching them on screen looks like two store mannequins sitting next to each other like... what do I care what they say?? Television is a visual medium lmao you gotta show me some images on screen that match up with the words you have written. Brittana doesn't do that
And the times when they do kiss in the show. Are so funny. Like 90% of them are those ^3^ kissy faces where it looks like the goal is to be as far away from your partner as possible while still just barely grazing each other's lips. At school I would understand but they do it at Santana's house, too. imo the only good Brittana kiss is the one from Heart. Even the churro kiss that Brittana stans thinks is sooo steamy and hot. I was watching that ep w my sister once and when that happened she was like "ew that was awkward" aksfjsdlf like yeah I have to agree luv. Even the kiss on their wedding day is sooo awkward like the way Brittany grabs Santana's face with just the heels of her hand??? Makes it look like her fingers were sticky and she didn't wanna get them on Santana. Like that's not passionate or loving that's literally 4th grade school play kissing where you hide your faces so the audience cant tell your lips arent actually touching lmao
Anyway I haven't complained about Brittana in a while so this was fun <3 Thank you for that, anon

The Problem of Nuclear Waste Disposal – and How Finland Solved It
“Even if all nuclear electricity vegetation had been shut down right now,  there’s a mountain of radioactive squander waiting around to be disposed of ,” experiences  Ars Technica .   “Still only  Finland  has an authorised resolution for nuclear waste disposal, even though tasks in the  US ,  British isles , and  Germany  have unsuccessful for many years, and progress is also sluggish in  other nations .”
So how did Finland assemble a harmless nuclear squander repository?  Ars Technica  asked Antti Mustonen, who’s a research manager with Posiva, the group in charge of the Finnish repository:
Finland has a whole lot of hard crystalline bedrock and several areas that are most likely appropriate for a repository. The state finally selected  an island  on the Baltic coast for its Onkalo repository, and it hopes to seal off the initial tunnel of nuclear squander someday all-around 2025….
Even after it has cooled in  ponds  for decades, used nuclear gas provides out warmth by radioactive decay, increasing the temperature in close proximity to the waste canisters. This heat could possibly  corrode  the canisters, compromise the bentonite, or even  crack the rock face . Thus, the Finnish and Swedish styles different unique waste canisters in their personal disposal shafts to prevent too much warmth buildup….   Posiva is currently conducting a long-expression, total-sized demonstration making use of heaters in dummy canisters surrounded by bentonite and temperature probes. Following three a long time, the temperature at the canister boundary is about 70Â C, Mustonen claimed. A identical check in Switzerland  lasted 18 many years  and discovered that bentonite “stays acceptable as a sealing material”  up to at least 100 degrees C ….
But to job how the rock and groundwater will have an effect on individuals dwelling around the web-site in foreseeable future millennia, the researchers have to model that numerically employing the tests and knowledge as the starting off position. “We have modeled to that million yrs… with unique scenarios and what the possible releases [are], and it seems that the releases are acceptable,” Mustonen explained to me….  Researchers then job what will occur to the waste above the following million many years, assuming all the things operates as prepared. They also model for several  “what if” situations . This projection consists of hunting at the stresses and groundwater pressures prompted by alternatives like getting buried deep under a foreseeable future ice sheet and then having that ice sheet soften absent, sea amount changes, alterations in groundwater chemistry, and failures of canisters. At Onkalo, even in the worst scenario, researchers work out that the maximum dose introduced to human beings would be  1-tenth of the regulatory restrict , which itself is about a hundredth of the normal dose that Finns receive each year.  But the report also asks what Finland’s expertise can train other nations around the world.  1 particular person who labored on America’s unsuccessful Yucca Mountain job was Dr. Jane Long, former associate director for electricity and ecosystem at Lawrence Livermore Nationwide Laboratory.  Extensive tells the web site that “They should really have established needs for an inherently secure website and then investigated whether the web page met the necessities as a substitute of deciding on the site for political motives and then attempting to exhibit the website was acceptable.”
And they feel to concur in Finland:
“A lot more than the geology, I imagine it really is socio-financial facets” that decide if a challenge can go forward, Mustonen explained to me.  A important lesson is that the major-down designation of internet sites for nuclear waste disposal has normally failed. The Uk unsuccessful in  1987 ,  1997 , and  2013 . In the US, politicians campaigned against the Yucca Mountain challenge, characterizing its authorization as the “ Screw Nevada Bill ….”
Yucca Mountain’s squandered  $15 billion  pales in comparison to the  roughly $50 billion in damages  that American taxpayers have had to pay out to nuclear utilities since the govt was not able to honor its determination to get nuclear squander by 1998.  Meanwhile, far more waste  is piling up .    Thanks to Slashdot reader  atcclears  for submitting the story.
