The Heat is Oppressive

-------------------- I wrote the above poem in the notes app on my phone before a 4th of July party in 2022, because once I thought of it I had to get it on paper before I forgot. I submitted it to my college's literary magazine, which is why it is nicely laid out in pages, and while all of the font and spacing choices were mine, I take no credit for the incredible background and graphic design done by the layout editor I was assigned. In the lit mag I was credited with my real name, but I replaced it with my username as usual.
As always, please give comment and critique, and please reblog and share this. It is one of my favorite pieces I've made and I want as many people as possible to see it.

I'm never going to be over Tubbo and Pac today - "what are you learning?" "I'm learning that happiness has a price"
Pac, the self sacrificial bastard who thinks taking the medicine has to be done, that Cellbit can't be the one to do it, and no one else is left. so he has to take the sacrifice. who thinks that it doesn't matter either way because Mike is gone, his son is gone, Forever is gone, and he knows he's leaving Cellbit behind, but Cellbit has always been the investigator, and out of the two of them, it's better him than Cellbit. if Pac can do this then it's a great success. if he can't then it's no loss. in his eyes, he's expendable.
he's been miserable, he's been so depressed, he's lost he's hopeless and now with the pills? he has something. and isn't that fucked that he feels the only happiness he'll feel again is with this altered mindset? like. his loves and joys have been taken from him. now with these pills he feels happy. he feels nothing but happy. and he knows the price he's paying for it.
I'm so fuckin impressed he managed to get the meds to cellbit. I'm so glad all his precautions paid off. and I hope it was all worth it in the end. I hope him and Forever will get their cure.
"happiness has a price" and its everything. it's everything.

In 2023, the top three largest health insurance companies all earned higher net income than they had in 2022. CVS Health’s net profits rose by 4 billion dollars, a 93% increase. That same year, the average premium increased by 7%.
These numbers are not only information about money — they tell a story of blood, bone, and rot.
They also tell a story of vacations, boats, and vintage wine.

Authors and how they use their wealth
John Green: Uses his wealth to help fight tuberculosis
Rick Rhodian: Set up a publishing arm for Black, Asian, Hispanic and Indigenous authors
Andrea White: Campaigns for education and reading.
Many other authors have highlighted injustice.
Suzanne Collins: Disappeared into the woods
Then you have JK Rowling who is using her wealth to fund hate.
If I ever become a successful author, I would use my wealth to fight against injustice or pull a Suzanne Collins and disappear, only going out in public to promote a new book.

nate being the only doctor makes me wonder what he's had to do for the others before
Tumblr media
Nate does a lot for the crew. (Also woo look at his human disguise!)
When he's not actively treating or checking on them, he's constantly working to compare studies and test data to understand how to treat his friends, seeing as they have widely different genetic makeups and could react in ways that are *catastrophically* unexpected.
He can't use human rules when working on them, which greatly complicates things when he's educated in treating humans. Sera and Vince naturally have nucleated blood cells for greater oxygen input since they're always in rigorous activity, but this is a sign of leukemia or other major deficiency in humans. How do drugs interact with their bodies? what reaction will their immune systems have? do they have an intolerance to certain chemical developments?
This is partly why Vincent underwent so much testing and experimentation- to catalogue and document an atlas for the reproduction and understanding of this hybrid Variant species, and how every facet of its anatomy works in that respect. Like a rough draft you don't care about messing up, and use only to learn from.
Sorry Vince.
It's a wonder how Nathaniel was able to successfully recompile enough information to save his friends at all. It's a lot of stress on one guy with no nurses! That goes without saying for Amon (who is a beastshifter) Sonia... (Who is a living chemical synthesis lab) The various other people who end up joining... (Who shall remain incognito)
...Yikes.
He has likely seen all of them naked at least once, due to emergencies. He's extremely professional, so it's like it never happened... But it's still never fun to have to use that kind of ER protocol on your injured friends and associates.
Everyone except for Vincent, since V never lets Nathaniel treat him for anything, even when he needs it.
Instead, everyone caught a harrowing and unwanted glimpse of Vincent when he landed back home after streaking in the rain. He now flies with his pants duct-taped on. And goggles. For the glare and the overwhelming surplus of bugs he slams into at twice the speed of a f1 car.
#devarambles#nathanieltag#one of the awkward facts about their situation as rogues is they have zero medical support besides Nathaniel.#and he has to constantly inform himself on their respective anatomy because theres so much undocumented info on variant medicine#Despite all of the extensive testing and processing reports done on variants#which is done in reference to improving human medicine. not necessarily variant healthcare. useful data regarding treating people is...#few and far between. Private research and study is usually done for variations that prove useful to government positions.#So variant healthcare is usually employed towards certain government divisions or certain levels of corporate practices. otherwise they#simply don't bother. “it costs less money to replace you than it does to keep you alive.”#Lol nate chose a shorter and thinner appearance when masking as a human. It makes him look a lot more approachable and his knees don't hurt#Sera... feels somewhat unnerved by his human form. It feels like she's cheating on him somehow. She has him change back when he's home.#He's perfectly happy with that since he doesn't like being disguised much either. He's pleasantly surprised to see that she prefers him#to be true blue. Most previous partners would request him to change into other forms. Sometimes he was even asked to turn into celebrities.#Not fun. Really not fun. He'd eventually associate his true self with something undesirable enough to be rejected over.

All right I need some good wishes.
Cat's back at the ER because while he stopped throwing up, he was still lethargic and disinterested in everything and just not acting like himself. X-rays confirmed he's got some kind of intestinal obstruction but didn't show what the obstruction was.
We think he ate thread, but there's not much that can be done until it's confirmed via either seeing it on imaging or seeing certain very specific signs associated with that particular kind of obstruction, which is hell on earth because long body obstructions are some of the most dangerous ones an animal can get BUT trying to remove something that may not even be there, well, that shit is dangerous on an already stressed body, so it's not a gamble anyone wants to take for very good reason, so it's all just a waiting game until whatever it is shows up more clearly, passes on its own, or gets worse.
So, please send him your best wishes...and, for that matter, this is all stupidly expensive so any purchases from my RedBubble shop are EXTREMELY appreciated right now.

Caught a cold(?) 2 days ago and I felt so bad, just hungry, all alone and feverish, especially since I Just got rid of my ear infection that costed me a lot to get rid of, now after a hearty nutritious dinner (had to eat eggs for 2 days because I didn't have anything else) I feel like life is worth living. I feel old.

thinking about the times I've been able to do true good at my jobs... even at my own risk it was always worth it
like the time I was alone on shift in food service and a travelling family had their car totalled on the highway that runs through my podunk hometown, so I gave em free drinks and the employee discount on their food and they were so so grateful. just one nice thing could happen to them on such a bad day, and it was me, and I made it happen.
or times when family members would call the front desk at my residential security job and say, "Hey I can't reach my mom/dad/elderly relative, can you knock on their door and make sure they're okay?" And I would go let someone very alone know that a loved one was worried for them, and they should call and say they're okay.
or when there were falls at that job and I saw it on camera and got people up and got medical help, when a woman locked herself in her storage unit and I got help and stayed with her til she was safe, when the shitty elevators went out and I helped an elderly person with an oxygen tank up the stairs...
when a woman in hospice care came wandering down to the lobby and needed me to call her daughter because she had seen a plane crash in the pond out front and didn't understand why no one else was panicking, so I just sat with her and talked instead of watching the cameras and held her hand until her daughter arrived. Miriam Schaeuble, your memory is a blessing. I still love her. she was my friend. she was so grateful to have someone kind to talk to every time we spoke.
every day in security, I recognized that trespassers were just following the back fenceline to get to the adjacent grocery store or bus stop faster, so I never bothered them about it. they never did anything wrong, fuck private property.
sometimes it was my job to do the right thing, sometimes it risked my livelihood to do it. and it was undeniably right that I did it, every single time.
no matter what, it was worth it every time.

When artificial insulin was invented they stole the patient for a dollar to the University of Toronto,  Frederick Banting said "Insulin belongs to the world"
in the long term, the plan is for a government factory operated by government workers producing government-owned medication. The state would have its own public production facilities, staffed by civil workers, which would sell generic insulin for the same cost needed to produce it, plus perhaps a small percentage to cover auxiliary costs for the program.

Male enlargement surgery, also referred to as cosmetic phalloplasty, penile augmentation, and pneuma implants, permanently enlarges the length or girth of the penis.
Men looking at their cosmetic phalloplasty options can choose from different options. As you would expect, the permanent male enlargement surgery cost will vary between the different methods. Read more!
