Chapter 1: Sweat

Bi Han x Shang Tsung x Liu Kang

An au in which Bi Han doesn’t betray his brothers and they capture Shang Tsung. No guarantees that there will be much plot after this. Mainly just connected short stories about the character relations. This first part is mainly just laying the groundwork for character interactions and providing context. The pacing is a bit clunkier than I wanted, but fuck it we ball.

Warnings: None for this one, although there may be smut in future chapters

Bi Han, Kuai Liang, and Tomas had returned from their mission with Shang Tsung in tow as a prisoner. The sorcerer had his hands tied behind his back and his mouth gagged with a strip of cloth. His eyes dragged slyly around the room, likely plotting his escape. Kuai Liang and Tomas briefed him on the mission. There were a few hiccups along the way, but the trio was ultimately successful in disrupting the enemy’s plans. Liu Kang praised them for their efforts. Throughout the conversation, Bi Han had his eyes fixed on Shang Tsung. On the surface, it appeared that he was just keeping a close eye on the prisoner, but there was some underlying tension between the two of them.

“And what shall be done with the sorcerer?” Bi Han spoke up. His gaze was still deadly focused on Shang Tsung, who opted to ignore him and observe Liu Kang instead. Liu Kang could feel the sorcerer sizing him up. He realized that this was their first meeting in person since he defeated his counterpart and began constructing the new timeline.

“Shang Tsung will either be turned in to Outworld’s authorities to be tried for his crimes, or he can remain here in the temple under my supervision. I leave that up to Shang Tsung,” Liu Kang explained. Bi Han did not like that answer.

“He tried to tear my family apart and bring disgrace to the Lin Kuei!” He growled. “And the only punishment you have in mind is to babysit him?”

“I will explain all in time,” Liu Kang reasoned, his tone soft in an attempt to deescalate the situation. However, that only seemed to enrage Bi Han further.

“I have grown tired of your vague statements and half truths!” He roared.

‘Ah. So that is the source of his anger,’ Liu Kang noted.

“Bi Han!” Kuai Liang called out. His brother’s temper was making him increasingly nervous. Liu Kang did not react to the outburst, much to Kuai Liang and Tomas’ relief.

The Fire God knew that he must nip this conflict in the bud before it resulted in disaster, and he realized exactly what he needed to do.

“Kuai Liang, Tomas, please take Shang Tsung to my quarters. I must speak with Bi Han alone,” He said.

The two brothers bowed quickly and exited the room, tugging Shang Tsung with them, much to the sorcerer’s disappointment. He very much wanted to observe the Fire God and Grandmaster together.

Bi Han watched Liu Kang intently, his body still tensed, ready for a fight. Liu Kang decided that they weren’t going to make any progress with him amped up like this. Liu Kang calmly walked over to him and placed a firm but gentle hand on his shoulder. Bi Han flinched, expecting a blow that never came, but he made no move to push his hand away.

“I understand your anger Bi Han. Come with me, and you will have the answers you seek,” He said before turning and exiting the room. Bi Han decided to indulge him if it meant getting an explanation for Liu Kang’s lax punishment for Shang Tsung. They walked silently for a few minutes. Bi Han had spent a limited amount of time at the academy, so he was unfamiliar with this path. Eventually they came upon an isolated clearing. There were racks with various weapons placed around a grassless circle. It was much more simple compared to the other training grounds he had seen around the academy.

“Spar with me,” Liu Kang stated. Bi Han looked at him incredulously.

“I thought we were discussing the sorcerer,” he deadpanned.

“We will do that as well, but I need your mind to be clear for what I’m about to tell you,” Liu Kang explained. Bi Han’s eyebrows raised. Now, his curiosity was beginning to outweigh his frustration.

The two of them opted to fight without weapons or powers, relying only on hand to hand skill and strength. Bi Han figured the fight would not be easy, considering Liu Kang was a literal god, but he had confidence in his own fighting prowess as well. Liu Kang matched his every blow and was able to counteract him with ease. He played on the defensive side while Bi Han was on the offensive. After a while, Liu Kang finally began to speak.

He explained everything from when he took control over the hour glass to now, how he created this timeline to be be better than the last, crafting everyone’s fate to create the most peaceful outcome. He didn’t divulge much information about the previous timeline, but he did tell how Shang Tsung was a powerful sorcerer and had caused much chaos across the realms, so in this timeline Liu Kang wanted to neutralize him by giving him a meaningless life.

The fact that Bi Han was right about the sorcerer being a danger to them all only brought a small bit of comfort, for he was beyond shocked and angry. How much control did he really have over his own fate? His blows came down harder than before and his pace was beginning to grow more frantic.

“Talk to me Bi Han. Voice your frustrations freely. I will not judge you for them,” Liu Kang stated. He was still largely unaffected by Bi Han’s onslaught, which only increased the cryomancer’s ire. Bi Han could feel ice beginning to form on his hands, a physical manifestation of the heightened emotions storming inside of him. Still, he concentrated on keeping his powers in check. The Fire God had kept up his end of the bargain, and Bi Han wasn’t about to pull out his ice for his own convenience. He had more honor than that, honor that Shang Tsung had tried to strip away. The mere thought of the sorcerer had him in a fury before Bi Han even realized it. His form had gotten sloppy.

“Bi Han. Tell me what’s going on,” Liu Kang tried again. He remained calm and collected, merely blocking Bi Han’s blows as they came. He had been so focused on reading Bi Han’s expressions, that he failed to anticipate a sweeping blow from Bi Han’s leg, knocking him off balanced and sending him to the ground. Bi Han wasn’t even sure if he himself was expecting it either. A small gasp left Liu Kang as his back collided with the floor and the air was knocked out of his lungs. Out of all possible reactions, Bi Han didn’t expect Liu Kang to let out a hearty laugh and sit up, brushing the dirt off of his clothes.

“You caught me off guard. Well done,” he said with a smile, no evidence of anger or embarrassment on his face. Emanating from him was an aura of fondness and…. pride? Bi Han was so taken aback that he dropped his fighting stance completely. His eyes were wide, analyzing Liu Kang for any tricks. He would deny forever that a blush had crept up onto his cheeks and ears. His mind was swimming. His instincts and his starvation for praise were fighting amongst each other, and there were still the revelations from during the fight. This man-this god that sat before him was so much more than Bi Han had ever imagined. Liu Kang reached a hand out and gently pulled Bi Han down to sit next to him.

“Would you like to talk about it?” Liu Kang asked, still smiling gently. Bi Han couldn’t bring himself to make eye contact with him. Liu Kang had to have noticed his blush. He noticed everything.

“I…,” Bi Han began, but in that moment, words failed him. Where would he even start? There were so many things he wanted to say to him. To shout at him. He wanted to punch him and then gently hold his face in his hands.

“If you need time to process everything, I understand. I apologize for any distress that I have caused you and I promise to be more forthcoming about my decisions in the future,” Liu Kang said.

Bi Han simply nodded with a grunt.

“I also realize that it is important for me to admit when I have made a mistake. I believe this is the case with Shang Tsung. I weaved his fate out of spite and a desire for vengeance, and because of that, his suffering is my own doing. I must rectify this.” Liu Kang stood up and reached out his hand to Bi Han. “I will not ask you to forget your feelings, but I hope that you will be more patient with Shang Tsung from now on.”

Bi Han sighed. He had no energy left to argue, but he did take Liu Kang’s hand.

“Very well, but you better keep your promise.” Bi Han grunted.

22 — your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

Ah, well, since you're anon I'm going to just answer this for the last fandom I was in, instead of susing out what content you follow me for.

So, Avatar, Quaritch :

My personal understanding of Canon Quaritch is that he's not nearly that happy about his new life as he's usually depicted to be, even after meeting Spider. He's usually shown as driven, or wrapped into new, meaningful relationships. Been there done that myself.

But I think there's a few clues :

The look of pure self hatred and loathing he gives his own reflection after poking his teeth (and what he says next, "ain't that a bitch" or whatever).

Then during his pep talk, using the term "sins of their past lives".

The way he basically begs Jake on the sinking ship to please fight him. He threatens his family, he opens himself wide...

And then the entire fight he's giddy. Let's not forget that mad cackle as they take their last breaths before diving to the last wrestle.

I've brushed on it in a fic, and this mentality is 100% what I think canon Quaritch mindset was during the film. A man thinking of himself as a living punishment. A shade meant only to avenge its past self. A bit of a twisted joke.

It's fitting too that his dreams drag him back to that moment, the sea of fire, the collapsing ship... Miles had known then, deep into his carbon reinforced bones, that this was it. That he was going to die there—and he'd been fine with that. There had been bliss, fighting Sully. A perfect exaltation, pumping fire through his veins. The man had proven himself such a competent fighter. He'd held his own, given almost more than he took. It had been a different confrontation. A fight between equals. No AMP suit, no link beds. No cheating, basically, for either of them. All brawn and skill, to the death.

Sharing each other's breath before diving to their watery graves, Miles had been glad. He'd been thrilled. To get his revenge in such a satisfying way, and to put an end to the farce of his misshapen existence... He'd welcomed it.

He'd spared a thought for Spider—his one regret. Ideally Miles would have stayed by his side, but with Sully's iron grip around his throat and his vision darkening, he'd just been glad they'd had a chance to know each other. That Spider would have memories of him, no matter how bitter.

And yeah, I've rarely seen Quaritch portrayed that way, but that's also probably due to the incentive to have him defect, or be redeemed and become a new, happier self, etc. I love the fact he's clearly tortured. It really plays for me into how single mindedly obsessed he is, and already ready to commit some good old war crimes to get to his goals. Why care if your entire life is a sick joke? If you're a corporate tool? If your entire meaning is to deal vengeance?

really long oc lore ramble

this post is just me rambling about oc lore but if you're interested then here!!

World-Building:

Okay okay so... the world that my Heaven/Hell ocs live in is basically just a more positive outlook on the Christian afterlife. My friend and I started developing it last year, but I think I've been more focused on it than he's been as of recently (he has a lot of other cool projects that he pays more attention to. He sorta lost interest in this one but he's still involved). We agreed that I would work on the Heaven side and he would work on the Hell side.

Things are much more tame in terms of torturous eternal punishment, but Hell is still a pretty wild place when compared to Heaven. Just imagine Las Vegas except it's always nighttime, and the crime is reaaally amped up. It's an extremely toxic place to find yourself in... but aside from that, it's pretty chill if you find the right people!!

In comparison to Hell, Heaven has a more rural look to it. There are grassy fields that go oooon and ooooon, and lot's of forests and gardens to gawk at. Since it's eternally night in Hell, it's eternally morning in Heaven. There are still cities in Heaven but they aren't as modern-looking and fast-paced as the ones in Hell are. They're still considerably busy, but not to the same degree. The town/community that most of my angel characters live in takes inspiration from victorian architecture, but I'm absolutely sure the art and aesthetics would vary depending on what place you're at.

Purgatory is less developed than the other 2 realms, but I think that's a bit fitting. It's like one of those towns that people often pass in and out of when traveling to other destinations. I would call it a liminal space, but I'm not sure if that would work since there are creatures living within Purgatory itself... just keep in mind that it's mainly a transitional place between Heaven and Hell. Since it's always morning in Heaven, and always night in Hell, it's kind of like mid-day in Purgatory.

The creatures that reside in the afterlife aren't just Angels and Demons. I kinda struggled to explain this a while ago but ummm... think of it like Splatoon. There are a bunch of different creatures around, but the main focus of the franchise is on the inklings and octolings. It's kind of like that but with Angels and Demons.

Since this is the afterlife, human souls reincarnate into Heaven and Hell pretty often. They're only able to come back as Angels and Demons, but actual birth can still happen in the afterlife. A handful of my ocs were born into the afterlife, rather than reincarnating into it after death. There are a bunch of different ways that you can make life happen... I think it's the intention that matters. Do you want to craft your child out of fire? Sure. Do you wanna shape your baby out of clouds? Go ahead, be my guest!!!!!!! There isn't much logic to it, but I think that makes it a bit magical and fun.

Oc Lore:

I have a bunch of different original characters, but the main 4 I tend to focus on are Nattie (Natalia), Jaime, Moxie, and Thalia. I won't go into too much detail about them because I really want to make comics for them to reveal that stuff, but I'll still summarize their characters from the beginning of the story here. I have a few more that I've barely talked about, so I might update this post when I have them developed a little more.

Heaven ocs:

Natalia, a timid young angel with curly pink hair and tired, beady black eyes. She lives with her mom and has barely any social skills, which she absolutely hates herself for. She's very unsatisfied with her life and desperately yearns for more.

Amber, Natalia's mother and a staple to her community. She is loved by many and caring towards all, offering help and guidance to those in need. She's very protective of her daughter.

Atticus, a strong and and talkative angel with golden hair and a tall stance. He wears his halo with pride and takes his job very seriously. Unfortunately for him, half of the community is annoyed by his presence.

Sadie, a nonchalant and rebellious woman who does not give a single fuck about anything. She has a very bad reputation, but she doesn't care. She dislikes the seemingly perfect front that Heaven has and frequently thinks about how much she'd rather be in Hell.

Thalia, a tall ethereal being with very long hair and piercing eyes. She protects a special forest and similarly to Nattie, has barely any social skills, which she doesn't particularly mind. Despite being Natalia's only friend from Heaven, the two of them are unable to hang out as often as they did when they were little due to distance and scheduling issues. :(

Hell ocs:

Moxie, a demon with fluffy blue hair and round purple horns. She was reincarnated into Hell and decided to make the most of it by having fun. Despite being very friendly and wild, she still retains a very big sense of responsibility and often thinks before she acts. She works at a club with Jaime.

Jaime, a silly and energetic demon girl who was born into Hell! She's very friendly and grows comfortable around people quickly. She's a bit of an airhead and quite impulse as well. Jaime works as a waitress at the same club that Moxie works at, and she lives with her as well.

They all have their own stories that take place, but I've written more for Nattie, Moxie, and Thalia out of all of them.

I have sooo many more ocs but aghh!!! I draw the same ones over and over again all the time. I'll make introduction sheets for them soon.

kiitos! thank you <3 Inspiration took over me and so here I am writing about a Call of Cthulhu pre-generated character. I chose Marty "Pug" O'Connor (of Call of Cthulhu, Missed Dues-fame) because he was the first character I've played in Call of Cthulhu game, and to be honest, it was love at first sight.

Favorite thing about that character

If it wasn't clear by now, I love how soft his character seems? His background information about his love for his mom and mom's kitchen.. I don't know. Marty clearly loves his family (mom) and the simple, safe things in life, and I just wish he got out alive to experience them :(

Least favorite thing

This is both my favourite and least favourite thing.. his sanity points. It's very fun to play because it amps up the tension but it's also frustrating because it feels like with any wrong move, the game might end for you.

Favorite line / scene

It's been a while since the game but I think my favourite scene was when our party killed Marge, and Pug was genuinely disturbed by it.. Wait, I think it was Pug who managed to do her in... Yeah. More trauma to work with :)

Favorite interaction that character has with another

There were a few... Maybe the scene where we confronted Smith and asked him questions about the church and Pug ended up blurting out that all of this doesn't seem very Christian :(

I don't know if these can be classified as unpopular opinions, considering these are pre-generated tabletop rpg-characters and each player naturally has their own spin on the characters buutt, I don't think Pug likes violence. I think he's disturbed by it, and he's disturbed by his own tendency to solve things violently

I'm not sure what you mean to say, but I feel compelled to show empathy to all civilian victims in general because all lives are equal, and it is not to whitewash Israel or to minimize their war crimes (aka actual genocide/ethnic cleansing to further their colonial agenda).

One can feel bad for all civilian victims without buying into the criminal doctrine of zionism or being an israel/IDF apologist.

Dehumanizing civilians on either side is never good as it allows for racist/fanatic/murderous/extremist ideas to fester, which can lead to terrible tragedies. (This is exactly what is happening to the Palestinians in particular right now, they are being vilified through malicious propaganda. Jewish people went through the same during WWII with the nazis. It also happened to the Germans after during the final parts of WWII. Many women were raped by the Allies' soldiers...) . Here is an example of a mixed family.

I believe that the previous point is very important because there have been various extremists thinking that they were avenging the wronged party in their eyes through hate crimes against muslims / jews (the american 71 years old dude who killed that poor palestinian child and severely attacked his mother, and many others, which you can read about in this link).

I do not believe one bit that Israel's repeated attacks on hapless civilians in churches/hospitals are justifiable or defendable at all.

In conclusion, I would like to add a few very important points, especially for the people who defend Israel & think that pro-palestine people are antisemitic/racists/whatever:

-> This is not a religious war between jews and muslims. This is a colonizer entity attacking/exiling the colonized party. There is no reason to hate followers of either religion. In fact, palestine is a multi-religious country. There are muslim, christian and even jewish palestinians.

-> The palestinians are also semitic.

Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living

Devotional Scripture:

Proverbs 30:17 (KJV): 17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it. Proverbs 30:17 (AMP): 17 The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young vultures will devour it.

Thought for the Day

The penalty for mocking and scorning one's parents was grim in the Old Testament. It carried the death penalty. The Israelites were careful to bury their dead. A body left unburied for birds to feed upon indicates an ignoble death, such as by violence or execution. Vultures picking an eye out of a dead body is what Agur seemed to be referring to as the result of dishonoring one's parents; for such a sin leads to other sins, exposing one to all the dangers of an evil life. Implicit in this proverb is the truth that though one may escape the punishment of man for dishonoring one's parents, one will not escape God's.

The Bible stresses that children are to respect their parents. It is so important to God, that He made it one of the Ten Commandments: "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee" (Exodus 20:12).

God gave other laws that charged Israel to deal very strongly with rebellious children in the Old Testament. The penalty for striking or cursing one's parents was the same as for adultery or murder; the guilty party was to be stoned to death. "And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. ...And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death" (Exodus 21:15,17). It was a serious offense before God. The word for "curseth" in Hebrew is "halal," meaning "to bring into contempt, curse, despise." Belittling or mocking one's parents is a serious offense to God. Even if there is nothing about them that commands respect, we must refrain from speaking reviling words against them. Children with unholy parents should pray for them and ask God to change them. This is especially important for young people to understand. We are to bless our parents and speak respectfully to them and of them. Praise God, that under the New Testament law, children can find mercy and forgiveness if they have been rebellious to their parents. Spiritually dishonoring parents can result in spiritual blindness and even spiritual death unless rebellious children repent.

The Old Testament law often sounds extreme to our modern ears because our culture is so lenient about rebellion and even glamorizes it. It would help society to better enforce punishment for crimes that are directed against those in positions of authority. These punishments would be an example to cause those bent on evil to fear and respect the laws. It would work for everyone's good, especially the young. Those who honor their parents and elders seldom come to the evil end that Agur depicted.

Prayer Devotional for the Day

We honor You as our heavenly Father and gladly submit unto You, trusting You in all things. Please remove any trace of rebellion from our hearts. We also honor our natural parents and our spiritual parents. Lord, we desire to always be respectful to the church elders and the authorities that You have designated on the earth. Deliver us from any anger against those in authority, and if we have been wronged by any of them, we trust that You will properly deal with them. We want to have a heart that is submissive trusting and free from all rebellion. We humbly ask this in the wonderful name of Jesus, your only begotten son. Amen. From: Steven P.
