[ Visitors pass by some of the iconic sculptures of prehistoric life within Crystal Palace Park. Photo by Richard Baker. ]
"When the Crystal Palace and Park opened in south London in 1854, it was an instant sensation. Visitors came from far and wide to see the giant glass structure that had been rebuilt there, bigger and better, after the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park. Wide-eyed spectators wandered freely through Egyptian and Medieval Courts, delighted in high-wire circus acts, and were transported by a 4,000-piece orchestra. Tucked away in a corner of the vast gardens that fanned out from the palace, past sweeping terraces and more fountains than even at Versailles, was a smaller but no less ambitious attraction. Scattered across several islands in the middle of a lake stood three dozen life-size sculptures of prehistoric animals, including several dinosaurs up to 30 feet long—the world’s first attempt to model them at full scale. The Crystal Palace Dinosaurs were the work of Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins, a natural history artist who, aided by some of the leading scientists of the day, had dreamt up a grand experiment in visual education, bringing to life the “dry bones or oddly shaped stones” found in the British Museum and introducing the masses to the burgeoning science of paleontology. By reconstructing Britain’s long-extinct animals, he hoped to “render the appearance and names of the ancient inhabitants of our globe as familiar as household words.” The palace burned down in the 1930s, but, almost 170 years after they were crafted, most of Hawkins’ original sculptures still stand sentry in the park. Today, they’re mostly famous for being wildly inaccurate. With few complete fossils to work off, Hawkins had to use his imagination and the advice of comparative anatomists to breathe life into his models, which, in addition to four true dinosaurs, also depict prehistoric mammals, reptiles and amphibians. As a result, the sculptures look suspiciously like many modern-day creatures. “People kind of scoff and giggle, because they look so wrong today, but at the time they were really cutting-edge,” says Bob Nicholls, a paleoartist who, through careful study of archival images, recently reconstructed a lost sculpture that had disappeared from the park sometime in the 1960s. His tapir-like model of Palaeotherium magnum, an animal we now know looked a lot more like a horse, was unveiled in July and now stands among Hawkins’ own surviving creations."

Here's some of my ideas for AU Sunny - not too different from the original yet. I'm honestly going back and fourth about whether or not she should still have an alicorn form.
(Oh and also, in my version, Izzy is her girlfriend)

Natural Citrine
Natural citrine has always been one of my favorite stones to work with in my practice, so I thought I’d compile some information in a post! Some general background about me: my name is Rebekka and I’ve been a witch for about 12 years, and I’ve owned my crystal & jewelry business for 10 years now.
Tumblr media
Natural citrine is the yellow, naturally occurring variety of quartz. A lot of what is commonly called “citrine” that you see for sale, is actually heat treated amethyst, and, less often, lemon quartz which is irradiated quartz. I have a post that you can check out here that explains how you can tell the differences. It’s been considered acceptable for years to just call these other two crystals citrine, so for a long time many people just getting into crystals had no idea how valued and rare true natural citrine is.
I’d love to highlight some of my personal opinions and metaphysical properties I’ve learned to attribute to it from different books and sources over the years.
Metaphysical Properties:
Citrine is known as the “Merchant’s Stone”. It’s often associated with prosperity, creativity, abundance, business, sales, and luck. When first starting my business in 2013 I remember reading this, and deciding to always keep a citrine crystal with me when I did shows and fairs! I simply stick one in my money bag/box when doing events. And when I had my brick and mortar shop, I always kept a citrine in the cash register. It would be a perfect stone to keep in your wallet or purse as well.
Citrine is also said to be one of the crystals that is capable of not only blocking negative energy, but being able to transmute it to positive energy. Because of this, citrine doesn’t need to be cleansed or charged, and can even be used to charge other crystals.
I’ve also personally strongly associated citrine with being a stone of manifestation, ambition, and intention setting. I find it useful for setting and achieving goals and planning long term aspirations. In my opinion it’s a great stone to use when you’re writing in your planner or even setting New Year’s resolutions.
Citrine is definitely one of my most used crystals in my practice, and I’ve always had a fondness for it!
I hope you enjoyed this post, and please let me know if there’s any other crystals you’d like me to speak about! 🌸

This has been on my mind and obviously I’m speaking with zero authority here and was really planning on not posting about it but like
Point 1. It IS gross to police Indigenous people based on their appeared whiteness for several reasons, one of them being WHOSE FAULT do you think it is that there’s so much whiteness mixed in nowadays (ours, it’s ours (white ppl) like look at the forced assimilation that was going on during more active genocide times) and anyone (ESPECIALLY us white folks like HOW is it our business) who polices and is all “wow you’re appropriating that culture/tradition/outfit/language whatever because you’re too white for that” GET FUCKED how do you think you can see someone’s heritage and history and cultural knowledge based on appearance (I have a few VERY white-passing First Nations friends who are very involved in traditional artisanal work and craftsmanship which has been passed down through generations through their family. How would you know that by looking at them)
Point 2. I do also thing it’s gross, and am perfectly aware Nobody Asked For My Opinion on this, to take advantage of a small piece of your heritage that you have no connection with and have maybe even purposely avoided connection with for like. Monetary gain. Say hypothetically a role in a film. This is NOT talking about someone who suddenly wants to be involved with and learn about their heritage, this is talking about specifically taking advantage of it
Point 3. There is NO WAY to know which of these two categories someone falls under. I don’t care about the situation, MAYBE unless you have a deep personal intimate relationship and knowledge of that person, you can’t judge someone on that and actually how dare you because this is the exact same kind of policing and gatekeeping that has been going on for centuries and it just SUCKS. you just suck.
These are very general points and not intended to be about any one specific thing btw

Man, it doesn't matter what the medium or fandom is, truly the debate that ruins fandom discussions the fastest is when people try to decide which characters "deserve" what. Especially when it comes to them deciding which characters are evil, how evil they are, and how severe their punishment should be for their evil deeds.
It's really annoying/harmful on multiple levels. For one, morally speaking, the line between "evil, but can repent/compensate for their deeds" and "evil, cannot be redeemed, suffer and die forever" is harder to define than you think, and who has the authority to define it anyways?
But also, fictional stories (especially the better, more nuanced, more mature ones) are rarely ever about "deserving" and don't divide their characters neatly between the "good" and the "evil." Every time I see fans debate about "how evil" a Problematic Fave is, or if Fave 1 is better/worse than Fave 2, all I see is people ruining their own fun and stirring up bad blood between other fans. Why would you add this dichotomy of "deserving" to a FICTIONAL story and start real life beef with people over it? At that point you're getting more invested in your discourse over imagined good/evil binaries than you are invested in watching/reading/consuming the actual story itself.
#squiggposting#honestly it gets to the point where i try to avoid fandom discourse for new things i'm into such as bg3#canon is crystal clear and then i walk into fanon discussions and it's like a funhouse mirror#fanon discussions and discourse get so wack they literally make me second guess shit i saw with my own eyes and ears#me playing bg3: yeah the themes of this are pretty clear i understand perfectly the emotions here are great#me looking at bg3 fandom discussions: what in the actual fuck is going on here. did we play the same game#it's also not helped by people who can't distinguish between canon and fanon#like. there's a difference bt things explicitly said by canon vs interpretations based on canon but not actually confirmed#there can be multiple different interpretations of a story. this is true and a very good thing#HOWEVER. ppl in fandom are often bad at distinguishing between canon information and their interpretation. it just adds more misinformation#if you're a veteran that actually knows the lore you end up stepping into discourse just to clarify:#no that isn't actually canon. it's based on this one thing that was said in canon but canon never actually says that.#you can INTERPRET THAT but the story never actually explicitly says it#just. what a fucking mess lmao. the best way to get accurate information on a story is to just play/watch/read it yourself#fandom cannot be trusted to 1. get lore factually correct 2. distinguish between canon facts and interpretation

What region would Guzma most want to travel to or has always dreamed of travelling to?
Ok, so there was definitely a point in time when Guzma was infatuated with the idea of the Castelia City night life. He loves the idea of going out to various clubs and bars, the nighttime streets lit up by colorful, flashing lights and bright neon signs. He's also probably a fan of Roxy's music and is very interested in checking out the big city punk scene.
If anyone asked Guzma where he would like to go, the above is probably his go-to answer. But... where does he REALLY wanna go? When he was young, he heard about a place called The Johto National Park. Allegedly, this park is home to a ton of Pokémon and every week (or was it multiple times a week...not the point) trainers come from far and wide to participate in the bug catching competition! Whoever catches the biggest and best bug wins! (Word on the street is first prize could even be a masterball). So yeah, Guzma actually really wants to go to Johto to visit the national park and become king of the bug catchers! win the competition.
