Dear Wormwood and Zuko my dearly beloved :’(((
Just the lyric “I name you my enemy!” means everything to me, especially in the context of him
This whole song SCREAMS zuko and want you all to know this.

man it makes me really sad when people ignore the religious theming of soldier poet king to be like “well its about my blorbo/dnd character now” bc like...dear wormwood is such a deeply religious album religion and god are so central to the whole thing that it feels really like...disingenuous to try to erase the religious themes of any of the songs. like you are looking at this beautiful piece of art about love and heartbreak and the apocalypse and god and intentionally discarding a central theme so it can be more easily consumed. why did you listen to the christian indie folk rock band if you didn’t want to hear christian indie folk rock. im not even christian but it bothers me

EVERYONE I JUST NOTICED SOMETHING REALLY COOL
So these are the Anemoi album covers, right? Do you notice a similarity between all of them?
Yes, they all have animals surrounded by a gold ring on them. Obviously there is a lot of symbolism involved with these specific animals and their respective albums, but that’s a whole other conversation.
Right now I want to point out the gold ring— more importantly, how is it changing as the albums progress?
In Notos, the thicker portion of the ring is in the bottom right corner.
In Eurus, that portion is in the top right corner.
In Boreas, it’s in the top left corner.
And in Zephyrus, it’s in the bottom left corner.
THE RING IS GOING IN A CIRCUIT!!!
The thick portion of the ring is moving counterclockwise with each album! And if you go back to Notos after Zephyrus, it’ll be right back at where it started!
This is yet another symbol of the Anemoi albums’ themes of change, cycles, etc. AND IT’S HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT!
How COOL is that??? I just noticed!!
This is even crazier when you add on the fact that the final song you listen to, after going through all the albums, is Rounds.
And what is the ring doing? MAKING ROUNDS!! Going around and around as you keep replaying the albums, repeating the cycle of summer to fall to winter to spring to summer over and over again just as The Oh Hellos intended to convey :)

now I am not the fool I was when I was younger
crocodile eyes, I have seen how you hunger
fluttering your lashes like ashes and embers
warm and bright as fire devouring timber
no, I cannot trust what you say when you're grieving
so my love, I'm sorry, but still I am leaving

Izzy Hands and Ed Teach
You have always been there in my mind
But now I understand you
And I will not be part of your designs
I know who you are now
And I name you my enemy
I know who I am now
I know who I want to be
I want to be more than
This devil inside of me
-The Oh Hellos, Dear Wormwood
Izzy knows that if he cannot kill his god, his god will not want him around. Izzy takes the gun, wraps weak fingers around it, and tries to do his god proud.
But it does not work. The gun goes off, sending pain ricocheting through Izzy's skull, and his head does fall back on the pillow behind him. His god gives a soft sigh, says that he loved Izzy, best he knew how, and exits from Izzy's prison, this ninth circle of hell.
Blackbeard leaves. Izzy Hands remains, pain pounding excruciating through his forehead. He has lost his leg. He came seconds, a mere hairsbreadth difference in the placement of the gun barrel, from losing his life.
It is in this moment, as he tries to breathe through the pain, the weight of his god's condemnation, that Izzy finally understands that if a god demands that a man die but that man wishes to cling to life, he must learn how to outlive his god.
If Blackbeard condemned him to the ninth circle, then it is time for Izzy to earn his sentence.
-aletterinthenameofsanity, bury me as it pleases you (but these bones never rested while living)
Well, @aletterinthenameofsanity just posted a writing update and mentioned that the Dear Wormwood album was extremely Edizzy-coded so I started relistening to it (especially the songs I've never heard before, such as Dear Wormwood itself) and yep, she's really not wrong! I listened to this song and COULD NOT unsee the Edizzy of it all. As I eagerly wait for the Izzy amnesia fic, I wanted to put out another Edizzy moodboard because their toxic, religiously devoted dynamic scratches such an itch in my brain!

okay I haven't done a poll in a while so here's one lol
*gender neutral
I figured I'd do this since I have one for lord huron and two for florence. it was harder to pick out distinct characters for this, but I hope you still enjoy!
(and yes I know some of these are characters/figures from outside the oh hellos universe to which the band is making allusions, but just think about them in the context of the oh hellos' music)
