Sometimes I worry that I give too many books four and five star ratings (because I've genuinely enjoyed them), but then I remember that I DNF a lot of books.
Life is too short. Sorry, not sorry.

organized my reading notion page for 2023 and decided to dnf eat, pray, love. There are in fact some nice words, words that I needed to hear because I feel so lost in life most of the times, but in all it's not really worth to keep in reading for some sentences
will share my notion page later but feel free to send me some inspo how you use it

My Games Backlog
May 27, 2023
Tumblr media
I list all the games I have bought since 2021 on a spreadsheet, but here are the ones I still have not played and need (want) to finish. Below are the ones I will likely never finish. 🙃😪
Tumblr media
Seeing everything in one place with prices listed helps me to NOT spontaneously spend more money! I want to try my best to play these before buying more games. 🥲

What is your DNF criteria?
I've been a long time, proud book finisher. I don't remember the last time I DNFed a novel, but I DNF non-fiction all the time, usually for being stupid, or not what I wanted, or blatantly wrong, or, like one notable example, horribly transphobic.
How do you decide when it's time to put down a book and DNF it?

DNF
I did not finish “The Bone Witch” by Ron Chupeco. It would be a great fantasy read for those who thoroughly enjoy descriptive world building. However, I need more character agency to connect. Here’s my thoughts while reading: The prologue is about a bard who witness a young girl (asha or bone witch) kill a ‘daeva’ which seems equivalent of a dragon. He wants to learn her story and tell her tale…

1/5 stars
I was really disappointed in this book. The concept itself was interesting. Although the concept itself got me hooked, the execution was terrible. It immediately had bits of transphobia here and there. That was still not enough for me to drop the book. I didn't drop it until Achilles decided to enslave a black trans man. I feel like a lot of people forget that he does this in the book. This is something that should be talked about. Especially since slavery is a trigger for a lot of people.

Please, for the love of god, please don’t be this person. No matter how long it’s been since an update, no matter how many unfinished stories are sitting on their account, no matter what - do not be this person.
Not only is it insanely rude, but you also do more damage than you think be being such a self-entitled ass about something someone created for free and for fun. “This author” can see what you say.
RIP decency indeed.

DNF at 38%. I think that this will appeal to a lot of people but it just wasn't for me. I couldn't connect with the characters and I got bored.

Y’all I started Bonded by Thorns which is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and no joke, 22% into the book and I had to dnf it.
I’m not listening to BookTok anymore. I don’t even know why I gave it another chance after the dumpster fire that was Icebreaker.
Maybe spoilers below? I didn’t get that far.
It was very juvenile, the princes were very two dimensional, there were grammar errors. It was told in the present tense, which in my opinion can done nicely. In this case it felt like reading a teen diary. The pacing was unbelievably rushed.
Rosalina refers to her Dad as Papa but she lives a small town in the US. I think this was to reference the original story? But wouldn’t it have made more sense for her to call him dad? ALSO!!!! She starts off the book as a soft-spoken, misunderstood and neglected woman. Then she gets to the briar, she’s yapping away, flirting and checking out men?
That being said, the only originality I found in the book was the 4 Fae Princes and the world in which they live. Everything else just felt like a transcribed version of Disney’s film.
What really was the last straw for me was the bath scene. She’s bathing after being told that there is no one in the pool with her. Suddenly one of the princes whips out from behind a rock. HE WAS SPYING ON HER?? and she found it attractive? (i have read vouyeurism and dark romance before but this? this didn’t sit right with me)
