With your interests in redesigning monsters and in 3.5e specifically, I’m surprised you haven’t talked about Eberron. It seems right up your alley with more universally gray morality, un-stereotyping monstrous groups, and it’s vague uncertainty with its gods.

Honestly one of the reasons I don't talk more about Eberron is that there's not as much to "fix" about it compared to the ossified institution that is that is "default" d&d lore. It's someone's home setting that just so happened to be canonized, and while there's bits and pieces of it that I don't 100% vibe with (Nearly all the aberrations being spawned by the delkyr, all the references to khyber crystals) those are mostly matters of personal taste.

My only real complaint is that there should be MORE settings like Eberron, but because Wotc is as terrified of making new IP as any other multi-billion dollar company they haven't been brave enough to make any of their own settings for what seems like most of my adult life. Instead we're going to be stuck with puddle-shallow versions of MTG planes and whatever trickles down from the liveplay space for the foreseeable future, and I absolutely hate that.
