I had to look up "causes for carbon monoxide inside home" online because I kept being reminded that CO detectors are common in america for personal home use but I could genuinely not think of a single reason why carbon monoxide could form inside someone's living space unless they had a fireplace on at all times and terrible ventilation, but then I remember how non-electric stoves are so common in america and everyone has cars in a garage that is directly connected to the house or whatever and it made sense

"The US’s transition to electric vehicles could require three times as much lithium as is currently produced for the entire global market, causing needless water shortages, Indigenous land grabs, and ecosystem destruction inside and outside its borders, new research finds.

"It warns that unless the US’s dependence on cars in towns and cities falls drastically, the transition to lithium battery-powered electric vehicles by 2050 will deepen global environmental and social inequalities linked to mining – and may even jeopardize the 1.5C global heating target.

News from Belize, 22 June.

Belize Electricity Limited is appealing for energy conservation due to a generation shortage caused by high demand for power in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Customers are being asked to turn off all unused electrical devices and air conditioners during peak demand hours of 1pm to 3pm and 6pm to 8pm.

The demand for power registered at 117 megawatts, exceeding the country's available power of just over 107 megawatts.

2. Belize has retained its Tier 2 ranking on the 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report due to its significant efforts in addressing human trafficking but has not convicted any traffickers or initiated new prosecutions.

The country has not adequately overseen labor recruitment and investigated allegations of labor trafficking.

Belize has made progress in identifying more trafficking victims, improving indicators, providing training, public awareness campaigns, and making a shelter available for victims.

3. The People's Constitution Commission in Belize has launched an education campaign to engage citizens in the constitutional reform process, targeting specific demographics of Belizeans.

The campaign aims to increase knowledge of the constitution from 2% to 50% by the time the PCC makes its interim report in October.

The campaign features collaborations with the Ministry of Education and the Reporter News Paper to disseminate information and raise awareness about the reform process.

4. Police Commissioner Chester Williams has been elected as the President of the Commission of Chiefs of Police and Police Directors of Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Colombia (CJDCAMCC).

The commission's mandate revolves around fostering inter-regional and international cooperation with various security organizations and agencies, promoting the exchange of information and expertise, and coordinating efforts to combat transnational crime and enhance the safety of citizens.

With the assumption of the Presidency, Belize is set to host the 28th Ordinary General Assembly of the commission in November 2023.

5. Fifteen U.S. Youth Ambassadors have arrived in Belize for a cultural exchange program to improve their social and leadership skills.

Light switch makes a cracking sound when turned on

Snapping, crackling and popping sounds are great when they come from your breakfast cereal, but not when they come from your light switch. If your light switch makes crackling noises when you turn it on, or if you hear a loud pop, it's probably time to replace it.

How does a standard light switch work?

Electricity powers lights and other appliances through a continuous flow of current. A light switch has two terminals. When the toggle switch is in the "on" position, the power supply wire (black wire) connects the two terminals, allowing electricity to flow to the light. To turn the light off, simply disconnect the current flow. When the toggle switch is moved to the "off" position, it opens the connection between the terminals and cuts off the current flow.

Why does my light switch make cracking noises when it is turned on?

The flow of electricity always generates heat, but the heat is retained in the insulated wires. Electricity leaking from the wires can cause heat to build up quickly and pose a serious fire hazard. Loose or faulty connections within a circuit can cause arcing as the current tries to jump gaps.

Light switches are used frequently, so it's not surprising that the switch's components wear out or stop working properly over time. If the switch no longer makes good contact between the two terminals when the light is turned on, current will flow intermittently. The current may arc, causing the audible crackling or hissing sound. If you hear these sounds or if the light switch makes a loud bang, it's time to replace the switch.

How to replace a grounded light switch

Replacing a light switch isn't overly complicated, but if you're not familiar with this type of repair, it's best to leave it to a professional. If you want to replace the switch yourself, follow the steps below:

Turn off the circuit at the breaker box before doing any type of electrical work. Use a multimeter or non-contact voltage tester on the breaker to check that the power is off.

Use a screwdriver to remove the breaker plate

Remove the screws securing the switch to the wall. Carefully pull the switch out and examine the wiring.

On older switches, the wires wrap around the clamping screws on the side of the switch. In this case, loosen the screws to free the wires.

Newer switches have wires that are attached through holes in the back of the switch rather than through the clamping screws. To remove these wires, insert the flat blade of a small screwdriver into the slots under the holes (where the wires enter the case) and gently pull the wires out.

OMG! Malleus does his own laundry and shopping because Lilia taught him that it's important that one should know how to live independently. He boasts about knowing how to use the washing machine and those electrical thingamabobs because he studied hard from books. 😭 Deuce is so shocked because why the hell would someone need to study how to use a washing machine...

Until Sebek enrolled and so enthusiastically volunteered to do Malleus' laundry. 😭 Him being a supportive older brother couldn't possibly refuse.
