Analysis behind the backstory and personal story arcs of A.B.A. and Paracelsus (part 1)
Sorry for the people who waited. Technical and real life delays and all that. On the positive, I happened to run into new resources in the past two days that have helped lining up the facts easier.
Anyway, I originally wanted to compress all the lore into a single post, but I find it’s so much more massive once you really dig into the analysis between the story across multiple mediums, the in-game animations and interactions etc. To make this more readable for you all and to make creating these posts faster, I’m going to separate them up into parts that focus on different facets of their relationship and lore as I progress through them.
This first part goes into their origins, and I hope this big post helps to thoroughly explain who/what A.B.A. and Paracelsus are, their backstories prior to STRIVE, and my own analysis sprinkled on top. I want to try to keep the info/lore dump minimal and focused, so if I mention a character without elaborating, I’ll leave a link but if I’m not elaborating more, it’s because they’re not relevant to A.B.A/Paracelsus' stories that much.

Analysis of Paracelsus' initial bloodlust and its longlasting effects on A.B.A (Part 2)
This is the "Why ABA and Paracelsus can feel horny" lore/theory post
Tumblr media
The beginning with A.B.A.
First off, to introduce their individual origins, it’s easiest to start with A.B.A. She’s a homunculus, an artificial lifeform created by a scientist in his mansion, which was located in the mountains of a region called Frasco or Flask. But before she was ‘born’, her creator had been taken away by the military for his skills in creating artificial life, and so A.B.A. woke up alone.
Tumblr media
Despite this, within the 10 years she spent alone in the mansion she was able to learn to read, write, and even create some alchemical magic (seen in some of her attacks in games before -STRIVE-). It’s assumed either she was created with a set of memories and skills, or she naturally learns very quickly. It’s probably due to reading leftover journals and research materials that she even learnt her creator’s name was Paracelsus.
Technically, A.B.A. could’ve left the manor quite easily, there was even a village not far from them. However, she understood that she knew nothing about the world outside and was scared to leave the safety of the manor by venturing outside to explore the unknown world. But she did yearn for freedom and to leave Frasco, so she took to fixating on keys, which she found fascinating in being able to unlock doors to different places.
In the last bit of her 10 years in Frasco, A.B.A would accidentally cross paths with the hidden the demon axe Flament Nagel (which she would later rename to ‘Paracelsus’ in honour of her creator, or just cos that’s the only other name she actually knew).
What’s a demon axe doing here anyway?
So what is Paracelsus? He is what’s known as a magical foci, which are objects or even people that get a soul or a collection of memories/emotions/desires attached to them, which eventually leads to them gaining sentience and often supernatural abilities. They draw from the Backyard, which is basically where the information that makes up all reality is stored in the Guilty Gear world, and also the source of magic. This is the origin of ‘demons’ within the GG world, like Paracelsus.
Tumblr media
The story of how Paracelsus/Flament Nagel ended up in Frasco actually involves the ancient Nightwalker (technically not a vampire but he's basically a vampire without the bad stuff) known as Slayer.
Tumblr media
Now Slayer is this incredibly old, incredibly strong vampire Nightwalker, who nonetheless is a very nice guy who doesn’t need to feed on regular people because his wife, Sharon, is a deathless woman that he can feed on indefinitely without worrying about her dying.
Because of his immense age (AFAIK he’s the oldest of the main GG cast) and overwhelming power (he always holds back in-game), he has very insightful observations of Paracelsus and A.B.A.
The following screenshots are excerpts taken from the English transcript (available here) translated from the Night of Knives Vol.2 audio drama CD (you can listen to it here), and are from the perspective of Slayer recounting his encounters with Paracelsus and A.B.A.
Sometime near the end of the 100 year long war between Gears and humans known as the Crusades, Slayer was roaming a battlefield and came across a mountain of corpses of both Gears and humans. In the middle of it was a wandering blood covered warrior that was swinging an axe wildly. After confronting the man, Slayer realized that it was the axe that was the true master, the man had already lost his mind and was under its full control.
That axe called itself Flament Nagel aka the Flaming Nail, or the Sanguine Gale. I'll still be referring to him as Paracelsus at this point in time though.
Tumblr media
Now magical foci start off simple-minded, only repeating small word fragments, and evolve over time to become more intelligent and sapient. At this point, young Paracelsus was a demon axe who had just gained sentience on that battlefield. Hot-headed and hungry for blood, and wanting to prove his combat superiority, he challenged Slayer and got curb stomped. Slayer was disappointed in how primitive Paracelsus still was in mind and soul, so he left him there to rust.
Tumblr media
However eventually, Paracelsus was picked up from that battlefield and was sent to the alchemist Paracelsus, creator of A.B.A. We don’t know if the alchemist knew what the demon axe was, or whether he even requested him specifically for research. But the alchemist ultimately didn’t let Paracelsus out, not letting him take control over him and hiding him somewhere in the depths of his mansion.
(Inaccurate information removed, updating with A.B.A.'s JP GG World entry from XRD)
It would be after A.B.A.’s 10 year long isolation that she decided for reasons unknown, to leave the mansion and explore the outside world. By pure chance, she comes across Paracelsus, who because kinda resembled a key, she immediately picked up and she fell in love with him and decided they were married from then on.
Becoming her key
It's always been known that Paracelsus has some form of empathic abilities, and that he could tell that A.B.A. was fixated on keys and assumed the shape of a giant key to entice her to wield him. This was also the first ‘manipulation’ that Paracelsus admitted he had done to A.B.A. during their heart-to-heart talk.
It’s been further clarified in this recent interview, that it wasn’t so much Paracelsus deliberately taking the form of a key to attract ABA, but because ABA had been so heavily fixated on keys that she saw Paracelsus as a key straight away. That image she had of him as a key seemed to immediately imprint itself on him the moment she touched him, because of his true nature as “an axe (that) transforms into the owner’s image” of what his wielder wants him to be.
Tumblr media
Slayer actually did mention this was likely the case over 20 IRL years ago in the audio drama CD, when he observed Paracelsus behaviour with A.B.A. in their second encounter.
Tumblr media
Because A.B.A. never sees Paracelsus as a weapon, Paracelsus began to change to fit her ideal of what she saw him as, to become something more than just a weapon, and allowing Paracelsus to truly change and evolve physically and emotionally.
Tumblr media
It’s important to note, Paracelsus isn’t bound to his wielder, and he doesn’t HAVE to allow this to happen either. Despite being dragged around by A.B.A. and acting like he has no autonomy; he actually has all the power to stop her from the start.
Tumblr media
As Slayer notes, Para still has the power to completely take over A.B.A. 's mind and force her to do what he wants if he is truly unhappy. However he has never even threatened A.B.A. with this ability, and if not for Slayer knowing his past, no one would know Paracelsus actually can do this.
Whether consciously or subconsciously, Para was becoming more than just a demon axe from the moment he met A.B.A., and in his heart of hearts, he was begrudgingly accepting of his then situation-ship with her.
Fast forward to STRIVE and it's shown that he still continues to evolve to fulfill her 'vision' of what he is. When described as becoming more key-like, it's more obvious when you place both his old and new design side-by-side.
Notably, the blade part of his axe form has gotten smaller by STRIVE, just as he has sworn off violence and bloodshed by STRIVE.
Tumblr media
It's even shown in how A.B.A. wields him., especially when Para partially possess or influences A.B.A. in his Muroha mode in the old games (mechanically this is the Jealous Mode in STRIVE). A.B.A. would wield him like a proper 'axe' blade-first in XX/ACCENT CORE. In STRIVE, since A.B.A. is now the dominant one in Jealous Rage mode, she doesn't wield him like an axe and now wields him by...bashing his head into people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Also I'll be going over the in-game animations and what they convey in a future post, don't you worry! You can view the comparison compilation here first.)
This even is shown in how A.B.A. uses Paracelsus as an actual key in her Overdrive "Keeper of the Key", which is a new move for her.
Tumblr media
If we go further, I have speculated in this semi-crack theory that due to A.B.A. also interjecting her ideal of Paracelsus being her spouse over the years, that him actually 'reacting' to her advances now could also be an example of his evolution.
Tumblr media
Even if he's trying REAL hard not to.
Hope this was an enjoyable read, let me know if you have any suggestions for improving readability or other stuff. Feel free to ask me questions through the inbox in the mean time that I'm working on the next part.
The next part is going to be analyzing and comparing Paracelsus' XX/ACCENT CORE Muroha mode to STRIVE's Jealous Rage mode, which has quite a bit of detail from comparing their effects on A.B.A. in in-game sprites/animations, plus how it reflects on the change in their power dynamics between games.
Edit: Part 2 available here

Din Djarin and Luke Skywalker are both two men who get progressively scarier the more you watch them.
Like, Luke in A New Hope was baby af. He was a child. Even in the Empire Strikes Back, what a little guy. A tiny fellow.
Then boom, Return of the Jedi, and Luke is smiling and like “Tell these Ewoks that you are their God and that if they do not release us, you will be Angered…” He is in all black, he is missing a hand, he has gone off the rails conpletely. He’s like “How will I tell Leia that we’re siblings? …Oh! I know! Riddles!” Luke Skywalker gets struck by Force Lightning like nine times and still gets up and drags his dad’s lifeless body out. There were moments one might look at him and think, “no, ur wrong, he still babie” but you are the wrong one! He goes into Jabba’s Palace and straight up stands there smiling and threatening him the whole time. He’s standing on a plank over the Sarlacc and he’s still like “So this is how you’d like to play :)” Luke straight up snapped, he got spooky by the end of the og trilogy.
Din Djarin, straight off the back, is kind of intimidating. He is a man in full armour who hunts people and freezes them in carbonite and appears behind their shoulders when they least expect it. But, after Grogu shows up, you probably think “this man is weak to this baby, he will become soft” but no! The opposite happens!
I’m talking about episode 6. The Prisoner. I have wanted desperately to talk about this for days, but have only just found the words to do so. Let me explain.
Din Djarin is filmed and edited like a horror movie villain. Like a supernatural force of evil who stalks his prey. Straight up like a slasher villain out of the eighties. There’s hints of this beforehand, what with Din appearing behind a guy in the very first episode, and the fact that he has been shot point blank (many times) but no matter how many times he falls, he always gets back up. Okay, that’s all fine and good.
But episode 6 goes beyond that. He stalks a bunch if assholes through flickering red lights. He splits them up, he takes them out one by one, and the last person standing manages to get out, thinks they’ve escaped, only to die (technically) at Din’s hand anyway. He is straight up a horror movie villain I don’t know how else to explain it, he is a horror movie villain.
Don’t take this the wrong way. Being spooky and intimidating isn’t a bad thing, especially not in Star Wars! Luke Skywalker and his ability to say terrible things while smiling, Din Djarin and his predilection for appearing right behind someone, these ar egood things. I like these things a lot. I love these. I love that Luke is the cutest little scary fella in the galaxy. I love that Din is the most awkward little scary fella in the galaxy. I think it’s great.
Why do I bring this up?
Well, for one, I have been trying to word my view on Din Djarin for days now. I love this man, I have to mock him or I’ll feel incomplete. And I think it’s a disservice to pretend that Luke isn’t a person who most people in the Star Wars universe think about and shiver. Don’t get me wrong, I love sunshine boy Luke, but he isn’t really like that, at least not by this point in the series. He just strikes me as the type of person to say incredibly dark, deranged things with a blank face, then smile at cute kittens. Luke is messed up, and we should talk about it more because it’s very interesting to explore the various ways he’s messed up.
But for another, I am a big fan of Din and Luke being buddies who go absolutely anywhere and scare the shit out of people. A Mandalorian next to a Jedi Knight? Two people who eat Storm Troopers for breakfast?? Can you imagine how much the fragments of the Empire that are still left are quaking??? Those two would go absolutelu anywhere and the anyone on planet who ever sided with the Empire would give themselves up or run, immediately.
Like, Din singlehandedly took out that whole troop on Nevarro. All by himself, he shot out all of the Storm Troopers and everyone inside and I like to think there are whispered stories about him similar to the ones about the Boogeyman.
Now, I know Luke didn’t actually kill the Emperor and Darth Vader, but does anyone in universe know that? Or does everyone think that Luke not only blew up the Death Star, but he also murdered the two head honchos and came out completely unscathed? Luke is definitely a boogeyman.
I don’t know. Something about two terrifying men walking into a bar full of Imperials only to walk out five minutes later of a bar full of dead Imperials just really fills me with joy. Something about the mental image I have of Storm Troopers fearfully sharing increasingly terrifying stories about these two makes me happy. I like bad people being scared shitless, all right? Sue me.

So I've had these Grunkle Stan crackships on my mind for almost a year now. Could be interpreted as platonic, but I think there's great and fascinating potential if interpreted fully romantic. Full musings and explanations below (Warning: very disjointed and random).
Uncle Chan from Jackie Chan Adventures
Maybe Ford and Stan stumble across the Chans on one of their globe-trotting adventures. Both groups fight off the same supernatural threat and surprise each other with their ease and familiarity with the weird and fantastical.
I feel Uncle is kind of a weird in-between of Ford and Stan. He is knowledgeable but not a nerd like Ford, is generally cranky but doesn't get into trouble like Stan does, although he does have a level of disregard towards authority if it gets in the way of his goals. He's quick to do research instead of impulsively charging into a situation.
I think Uncle's dynamic with Stan would be hilarious. They would argue a lot on how to deal with a threat, but once they agree to work together, they could kick ass. Once he gets past his initial annoyance, Stan would probably enjoy Uncle's quips, even more so when he realizes that Uncle does not say them to be funny, he's just naturally snarky.
Uncle is never shown having any romantic interest or relationships, so I kind of headcanon him as ace, but I think it would be really interesting to see what kind of queerplatonic relationship he and Stan could form.
Jade and Mabel would probably hit it off immediately, and while Jade isn't as studious as Dipper, she also has an enthusiasm for the supernatural so she'd probably get along decently with him. She'd also probably think Stan and Ford are super cool, especially considering their lax attitude toward giving children weapons. Though they do still take the kids' safety very seriously.
Jackie is doubtful of Stan, much like he was with Viper, but seeing Stan look out for the kids would probably endear him a little. Ford might also help ease his worries, and maybe they both could have fun discussion about archeology.
I think Tohru and Soos could get along decently, though Tohru would find Soos' eccentric musings odd at first.
Additionally, Uncle's shop is in San Francisco, practically next door to Dipper and Mabel in Piedmont. The kids would easily visit each other every weekend.
Bruno Madrigal from Encanto
Stan has been to prison in Colombia, so I don't think he'd willingly travel there for fun, and Encanto Valley seems relatively closed off from the rest of the world, so I imagine their meeting is accidental, maybe a result of the Stans getting caught in a storm or something. They stay for a while in the valley while repeating their boat.
Stan might initially be outraged at the idea of the Madrigals not charging anyone for the use of their gifts, but perhaps lightens up when he sees how close-knit the community is. He'd still come up with ways they could show off their powers Mystery Shack style, probably butting heads with Alma in the process, lol. He might encourage Bruno to adapt a more showman-like approach to his seer abilities to make it more presentable and less intimidating.
Bruno and Stan connecting over their shared feelings of isolation from family is definitely what drew me to these two together in the first place. If they ever got serious about their relationship, I can imagine the biggest hurdle would be deciding if they should continue a long-distance relationship, since neither is keen on asking the other to be separated from their family.
Yuuko Ichihara from xxxHolic and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle
Major spoiler alerts for both series. It's been many years since I've read them, and Tsubasa had so many plot twists that even CLAMP (the writers) admitted they were confused by the end result. I also might be misremembering some details, so bear with me. Factoring in the plotlines for both series and Gravity Falls would make for an incredible AU fanfic that I unfortunately am not qualified to write.
Due to Yuuko's shop being in Tokyo, a whole ocean away from Oregon, I like to imagine some timey-wimey space mumbo jumbo allowing Yuuko and Stan to meet in the dream realm. Maybe at some point, Yuuko's shop would obtain a door connecting it to the Mystery Shack.
Stan and Yuuko both have a mischievous side, though Yuuko is generally more reserved. They could start out as drinking buddies, though I imagine Stan would probably favor a light beer, while Yuuko loves sake.
They also both use aliases (it is never revealed what Yuuko's real name is), but Yuuko would likely be upfront about it. As their relationship progresses, Stan would probably feel comfortable telling Yuuko his real first name, even after she tells him the supernatural dangers of giving your real name.
While Stan scams his customers, he generally sells harmless entertainment and trinkets, whereas Yuuko grants wishes and operates strictly on an equivalent exchange basis. To quote the wiki, "All of Yuuko's customers must pay a price in order to grant their wishes, which can be no more or no less than the one demanded, or else harm will come to one's way. She is not one to tell the customer the most direct way to solve their problems because in the end, it can only be solved with that person's own realization and resolution to change themselves... Her abilities are not unlimited and may almost seem like a curse as it appears that she is unable to do anything for anyone or grant any gift (other than feelings) without it becoming a binding transaction."
When Stan finds out just how powerful Yuuko is, I think he might react with a mixture of hesitation and awe, especially when she reveals she knows about his past, and Ford being lost in the multiverse. I am on the fence on whether Yuuko would use her powers to bring Ford home sooner, or let Stan continue working on the portal because he's already close to completing it and this would be significant in defeating Bill.
I found that the main villain of Tsubasa, Fei Wang Reed, surprisingly parallels Stan. Both endanger reality to bring back someone who is lost, but while Stan does it out of love and devotion to his family, Fei Wang Reed only did it in an arrogant plan to prove himself a powerful sorcerer. And in Fei's case, the person is already dead. CLAMP's universe establishes that the dead cannot be brought back to life, and Fei's wish to do so would cause the universe to be destroyed. I wonder if Bill would factor Fei as part of his plans.
Stan also surprisingly shares a lot in common with Fai D Fluorite. Both use their twin's name (Fai's real name is Yuui), and for much of the series Fai's tragic backstory regarding his twin is unknown, and he hides his trauma under a laid back exterior. I think Stan would empathize a lot with Fai, after he finds out his backstory.
Kimihiro Watanuki is revealed to have been created to fill a void left by Syaoran after the latter wished to turn back time. I remember Watanuki's character arc involved realizing that people cared about him. "Don't disappear", "Continue existing". Stan would probably take Watanuki under his wing, much like he did with Soos. Watanuki might find life with the Pines family far more chaotic than he's used to, but slowly warm up.
Yuuko is revealed to have died a long time ago and has basically been in magical stasis due to Clow Reed's unintentional wish. When time finally moves forward again, Yuuko eventually passes on. She doesn't return in the canon series, but Watanuki is stated to have also suspended his time to wait for her return. In this AU, maybe she reincarnates in the past and reunites with Stan and the Pines in the present day.

god i cannot express how impressed in general i am with the storytelling that cr is doing with candela obscura but what really strikes me is how evident it is that the storytelling they do is defined by the hearts of those who are putting it together rather than adhering to a specific idea or image of a given story that they want to uphold. there is such a stark difference between the tones of chapter one and chapter two (to the fault of neither, i’ve enjoyed them both immensely because they both happen to hit parts of the supernatural-horror genre that I am so deeply fond of and so happy to see in a real play medium).
there’s the obvious difference in gming styles, matt has fantasy running through his veins and that’s evident in the way that chapter one ends up having a tone akin to something like the scarier episodes of buffy the vampire slayer. spenser outright references mike flanagan in his pre-interview thing and good grief is that so so evident in his narration and the way he emphasizes the themes emerging in the story in the environment of the world they journey through and choices like the letter from sean’s mother that subvert the audiences ability to rely on a character’s perception.
but the energy the groups of players bring to the storytelling is obviously also so important, too. like, even just looking at the groups prior to watching each I probably could’ve guessed which might’ve had a more lighthearted tone. the combination of ashley, anjali, and robbie already would be one i’d guess a more warm/goofy vibe for (not to say they can’t be serious and dramatic, but the tone of the seriousness is still warm and the world that prompts them towards drama likewise feels warm) and laura, despite her propensity for goofs, does tend to be a chameleon with group make ups. likewise i think we all had a certain (affectionate) fear™ when it was revealed that marisha, brennan, luis, and travis would be reuniting in another short form story and that has certainly held up and been incredibly bolstered by zehra’s absolute commitment and immersion into the story (constantly fucking blown away that this is her first real play she’s incredible).
this is all just to say as someone deeply interested in digital storytelling, i am so so enamoured by cr’s commitment to following their own desires as humans telling stories to one another while adhering to the requirements they have as a company. and also if you haven’t you should watch candela obscura, especially now that spooky season is here.

(5 years later)
"Alright, Eden, this is how it's going to be : I'm going to help our dear friend with his little inconvenience while you stay here and eat every bit of grass you want. Okay ?" You said, deadpan.
And the only response from your white Dexter mini cow was a simple nudge against your palm. Aw, how could you resist her when she just looked at you with such cute eyes ? You just couldn't ! That's why you brought her with you in the first place.
"Perfect." You nodded firmly before bending down to kiss your forehead. You started to retreat. The sensation of tall grass touching your shinbone You loved it. Every sensation this world had to offer amazed you and urged you to experience everything. But right now is not the time !
"I'll be right back, sweetie ! Don't wonder off too far !" And you took off towards the meeting location.
Love angels are quite particular creatures with special abilities. As they say, love makes you blind, and even though you couldn't prove that statement, you knew that love allowed you to be blind in other people's eyes. You were capable of becoming invisible. Not all the time, but you could manage to stay this way for a few days if really necessary. You had a lot of free time.
This power was mostly there to permit you to supervise dates, gather information on your clients, and occasionally spy on a demon's secret meeting. If anyone asks, you never do that.
But lately, demons have been more and more pushy with Crowley's results, summoning him to Hell for his report. However, some lower-class demon got brave enough to come up on earth and confront him. They were jealous of the redhead; you smelled the salty taste, similar to burnt meat. And despite how stupid they sounded, they were really starting to cause trouble by sensing Aziraphale's presence and also influencing Warlock.
Thus, you decided to go help the duo by playing bait. Certainly those demons' boss would be thrilled to know they successfully scared off a love angel. Right now, you slowly flew towards the meeting point, watching closely for any aggressive behaviour. Crowley had called them to "calmly" persuade them to leave, as they were starting to draw too much attention.
It wasn't really the case ; Warlock's parents were incredibly lax. But you could always trick most of the supernatural beings since they don't spend as much time on Earth as you three. You gently leaned on a nearby tree, your expression fixed as you followed their movements.
"Go back to Hell ? So you can receive all the credit to yourself ! Don't count on it, Crawley !" The smaller one snarled vehemently.
"It's Crowley, and I really never meant to take your place in a mission you are so obviously deserving of." And he seemed to actually appreciate that; they weren't great at sarcasm either.
"What the.. urgh.. angels ? Have you had any trouble with one of 'them 'em sneaking around ?" The taller one almost gagged when he mentioned them. You knew that one, actually. You leaned in a bit more on your branch, Crowley glancing quizzically in your direction (he probably heard you), and you recognised the guy's features.
Yeah, greasy yellow-ish hair ; his right cheek was necrotic; his hideous teeth were poking out. You were just so glad Crowley had clean teeth; you honestly thank God every day for it. You've met him before during a lot of your missions; he's always there to fricking ruin every one of them. God, sorry, he was so annoying... But you loved tormenting him back. But he was getting really obtrusive in your monthly life, so today you would do your best to put them in a lot of trouble. And set his friend along; you wouldn't want him to feel lonely; you were not that mean.
"Angels ? Naaah, they are way too uptight and skittish to properly go against our forces... Why ? Have you been struggling ?" He was holding back his mockery. Which was a real struggle for him.
"Just that little wuss of an angel. They keep missing me, never brave enough to truly face me. Just waiting for the right moment to get at 'em." he growled. Oh, how strong-willed he sounded, considering he always gave up mid-chase. You looked over Crowley for a second and got almost startled at how dour his face was. You bit your lip and focused back on Bobby (not that it wasn't his name; you just didn't care enough to call him something else).
"Oooh, I'm sure you'll find the right moment to strike once you muster enough courage to step out of your mud puddle." He briefly laughed, sardonic as always.
Heh, the way some demons made their entrance was so flattering. Now, thanks to his taunting, the two have started to get aggressive. I guess that's my cue to go.
"What the fuck did you just say?" The greasy boy said it directly to Crowley.
"Oh, I think you exactly understood what I meant." Obviously, he wouldn't back down ; you didn't expect anything else from him.
Calling off the spell, you stood up. Your legs were wobbly, and you tried to stabilise yourself. And leaned casually against the trunk.
"Well, what do we have here ? Hiding away from the city, I see. Why ? Was I too intimidating for you ?" you bugged. You saw his sludge vest boil, his face scrunching, and his awful teeth showing. His little friend growled behind him, ready to launch right at you. How sweet. Crowley's eyes widened. He leaned back, arms crossed in front of his chest, observing what was going to happen next.
"You... I should wring your neck !" He was an impulsive little thing, so he wasted no time and jumped on you.
You dodged him, if you can call it that : you took off your branch and let him knock his head against it. The second came running in your direction; you decided to let gravity do its thing by letting yourself fall and firmly stepping on his bald head. Wow, I almost slipped there.
You jumped off and landed on the ground. You looked up at Crowley and mouthed to him "Eden". You didn't have the heart to leave her here by herself now that you were going to have a little fun. He rolled his eyes, sighed, but nodded anyway. You knew he had a soft spot for her. You smiled brightly and ran off.
"Don't let her near the Anti-Christ !" the shortest one bawled at Crowley, getting back up.
You halted for a second, quickly building up a plan B.
"Anti-Christ ? Is that so ?" You said, teasingly. You had to turn around, bending yourself into a position that conveyed every bit of smugness you could manage. Crowley's lips twitched upright.
"You idiots !" He snarled.
"Get 'em !" Bobby roared as best as his croaking voice could.
You burst into brief laughter before finally dashing off the scene. If your plan failed, you had a backup. You really liked running, but you couldn't let yourself drown in the feeling.
The smaller one sent an electric shock your way. You leaped up, flew for a brief moment, did a half-loop, and landed back down.
"Hey ! Don't get too flashy now ! You wouldn't want to be seen making an ass of yourself !" You mocked.
"Shut the fuck up !"
Rude...
The town wasn't that far away, and you wanted to get to a more populated area as soon as possible. Because, you know, your weapons weren't lethal, so we depended on your miracles. You were used to the human environment and what they would perceive as coincidences, odd occurrences, and full-on magic. They weren't, and you believed they weren't that dumb to expose themselves too much or hurt anybody.
Bobby had summoned a huge pit right in front of your feet. Luckily for you—not much for them—you had explored everything your human body could do, including physical effort. You grounded your feet, flexed your slightly trained legs, and leaped over the trap.
You took a sharp turn, arriving in some kind of small square, and climbed up the metal fence, winning some time. Now that people could see you, you started running, but no one was in sight. Ugh. Ooh, expect those two wild geese, plainly walking around. You smiled, determined. You materialised your bow and visualised their bound. Mmh ! Better than you expected. You could give it multiple forms; get utterly creative. This time it looked like a mini-crossbow for stealth. You put your weapon on your forearm, aimed for their chest, and let go. The geese quacked, chocked by the sudden rush of emotions. Bound complete.
You skipped past them like an antelope, nearing the entrance of the park, leading into town. More people wondered in the street, and some intended to enter the square. Worry squeezed your chest ; your breathing was itching. Please don't hurt them.
They didn't bother slowing down, recklessly running in your direction. Your brows frowned, irrated by their stupor. Mud Pie ignored the cuddling geese and violently pushed a man's shoulder with his.
"Hey ! What in the bloody hell is wrong with you, man ?" The man yelled after him, holding his arm in pain.
You took a step back. No holding back. Two were too much of a handful right now; you had to get rid of one of them.
You took two steps back. So, unwillingly, you miraculously shoved one of the geese onto the second guy. Panicked and certainly repulsed by his slimy appearance, the poor thing started to attack the pariste with all its might. Without a second thought, the mate started chasing as well. The demon desperately tried to shove the two off, but so satisfyingly failed.
You didn't have time to further appreciate the show, as your dear friend didn't even glance in his companion's direction. He was like a bulldozer, ready to wipe you off the map. You took a step back and collided with an old woman.
"Oh, I am so sorry, madam ! I really apologise !"
"No worries, dear, but why are you in such a hurry ?"
The road was right here, and you saw a car coming your way. Go across and let the car hit him. Let's go.
"Mh... Life's too short ! You must enjoy it," you said, sending a happy memory orb her way. No time to waste !
You ran as fast as was naturally possible to the other side. You looked over to the other side. Everything was blurry. Great. He was coming. The car ? Not fast enough.
The black car seemed to accelerate at the last crossroad and was steering incredibly fast. Come on, come on ! Knock him out.
He was crossing the road ! ... But you gasped in terror when you saw him pulling the grandma with him. He had pushed her as well, in front of him.
His eyes snapped at the car and morphed into those of a deer caught in headlights.
He walked forward, taking the woman with him in the process. They both fell to the ground abruptly.
The car brutally stopped.
"Miss !" you cried, fright gnawing at your insides. You dropped to your knees and shoved the mud boy away from her, checking for bruises. Broken wrist. You winced and very discretely healed it. You scanned your surroundings and almost felt your ears peek up in interest.
The Bentley.
Crowley.
"Sorry, Madam, for the incident. I hadn't expected to so suddenly cross the road," he said, his glasses hiding the not-so-guilty expression. "You were lucky this man was here to save you". The smirk he wore was devilish; he barely hid his nature, and you were honestly surprised no one had found out his true nature yet. It was so obvious.
A crowd had formed around you, people helping the poor granny and the cunt up. Crowley approached, trying his best to correct his walk.
Oh, that's right ! Where did he go ?" A bystander wondered, searching for the mysterious, dirty man.
"Maybe he's shy and couldn't appreciate all the praise he would receive for saving a person's life." You smiled in your own charming way to dispel all suspicions. Still, the secret meaning behind it made Crowley scoff.
"Will you be alright, ma'am ?" you asked.
"Oh, don't worry, dear. It's always good to know that my heart can still go through so many emotions and still be up and running." Her lighthearted laugh brought a small, tender smile to your face. You parted ways and went to Crowley.
"C'mon, sweetheart, I'll give you a lift home," he said, looking away. He seemed upset, so you tried to humour him.
"Really ?! Can I drive ?" You beamed at him, your eyes eager to receive a refusal.
"Never. Again." His teeth were grinding so much that you wondered if they would break. You pouted but didn't insist. Suddenly, you remembered your little companion.
"Eden ! Oh, my poor girl ! Where is she ?" "You grabbed the demon's arm. You were actually much more tactile than Aziraphale and him, but they got accustomed to it.
He stopped, looked back, and rolled his eyes.
"Don't worry, I put her in the trunk of the car." He nonchalantly explained as he sat down.
Wait... W-Where...
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
You absolutely didn't want to live with your poor baby in a small, cramped place, so Crowley accepted to go back near the dear little Anti-Christ place to check on your mini cow and pick up Aziraphale. You quickly got rid of your seatbelt and raced out.
When you opened the trunk, you sighed when you heard Crowley complaining about your "brutality.".
Mh, at least I'm not a barbarian who stuffed a baby cow into the back of a car.
You stopped mid-thought when you saw what the interior really looked like. Crowley had manipulated the space inside and made it wide enough for Eden to fit in nicely. It looked like a small meadow, too.
"Aww, Crowley !" you squealed in his direction as he was pretending not to see you.
"Ooh, my dear baby Eden ! Are you okay ? Are you good ?" You reached out and pulled her out. She rubbed her head against your belly and mooed lovingly. You kissed her forehead.
"Ooh, you really took good care of you, huh ? " You quickly glanced at him and saw him tensing up. He knew what you were going to say, and you smirked, delighted. "Yeah, you're right, he really likes you ! I totally agree. What a nice guy he is indeed."
"Don't you call me that !" he exclaimed, literally fuming.
"Shh, don't scream this way at her!" you lightly scolded.
"Oh, like hell, I'm going to let you insinuate things like that," he groaned. So easy.
You started to jump around, going down slowly like a feather. Eden happily did the same.
"I'm solely stating facts! You are a good demon—ah!" you screamed, surprised when he started to try to catch you.
"Come down here, you little minx !" He snarled, frustrated at your agility.
You stooped your tongue out, Eden still running around cheerful as always.
"What are you two doing ?" A familiar voice asked, deeply confused and surprisingly joyful at the same time.
"Aziraphale ! Hi !" you waved as your feet connected to the ground again.
Crowley was right behind you, hands twitching and mumbling complaints mixed with threats. Even if you knew that the angel had already seen the upset and irrated side of Crowley, you still needed to point out his good deeds!
Every opportunity mattered!
"Is everything alright ?" No time to worry ; you've got to praise!
"Yes, yes, of course ! It's just that Crowley doesn't want to admit how nice he's been today." You got behind the raging demon and gently shoved him towards Aziraphale.
"Oh, really, Crowley ? How come ?" He teased and smiled almost slyly.
You slowly backed off, letting the two interact in peace.
"Argh, it was nothin'. Just some demon who tried to jeopardise the mission, and Y/N over there immediately jumped in and lurked them away." He looked at you while saying it. You smiled with tight lips before I tilted my head for him to continue.
"And, urgh, well, I followed them and helped get rid of the nuisance." It almost burned his tongue.
"Aaand, you made Eden a comfy little space in the back of the Bentley!" you said, in the most jovial tone, making him growl.
"Aww, Crowley ! So do you have a soft spot for her, uh ?" He looked so touched. He was so adorable, you couldn't help but smile. Crowley looked bashful for a second before turning away.
"Oh, shut up. I only did it because I know what an awful thing you two feed her, so I just thought she deserved a little treat." He calmly taunted.
Awful things ?! Wait up a minute, mister !
Aziraphale regularly accepted keeping Eden with him when you had to work for a long time. He even arranged a room for her; he was very fond of her. And the food you gave her was the most healthy grass and hay you could find. Aziraphale was the one who helped you pick up a kind.
"She's perfectly healthy and happy; thank you very much !" You sprinted his way. He held up his hands in innocence, though his smirk revealed his thoughts.
"Of course, but also utterly bored." He leaned in, his smugness emanating from his whole body.
"Sure." You crossed your arms. "Because you know everything about having fun, Mister, I will never let you drive !" Yes. You were pouting. No. You will not apologise.
"Ooh, believe me, sweetheart, you're lucky I even let you near it."
Alright, so Crowley might not have appreciated how you drove the Bentley, but you both ended up having a great time ! Well, you and the car. But since you had driven with so much energy, it actually encouraged the demon to steer a little bit slower. You just shrugged the comment away.
"She's not a kart nor a race car, for that matter !" He exclaimed, throwing his arms everywhere.
"Don't underestimate her ; she's capable of a lot of things." You closed your eyes and nodded slowly. "Ah, such a shame you don't realise it..."
Speaking of realizing...
Shit. Aziraphale.
Great work, love angel. You felt bad for neglecting him and a weight settled on your shoulders.
"Anyway ! How was your day, Azi' ?" You gazed back, ignoring Crowley's ramble. The angel was facing the horizon, his absence crystal clear in his eyes. He snapped out of it, though, and a tight smile crept in.
"It went perfectly well, thank you ! Now, can we please head back to the bookshop so we can discuss our respective summonings ?" His hands were joined behind his back as he went to climb in.
"Of course ! W-Wait ! I'll go behind; this way I'll be close to Eden." You laughed nervously. Damn, you were way smoother with your other clients than with these two.
"No problem, Y/N." He simply said and smiled at you sweetly. Ah, what an angel, right ? Unworthy was what you were.
You heard Eden mooing in protest as Crowley picked her up to stuff her in again.
"C'mon, big girl, in you go- no ! No ! Not the jacket !" You tried to suppress your laughter at the sight.
"Hop on in, dear."
Aziraphale was holding the door open for you. You overdid your bow and got comfortable on the back seats, with the guardian doing the same after you. You felt guilt watching you from afar, ready to slay your throat.
"Let go, Eden ! Let go ! AAARGH-"
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
"No need to overreact..."
"Overreact ?! She ate my jacket! Ugh... so ungrateful..."
Aziraphale shot him a disapproving look but didn't add anything; instead, he grabbed the torn fabric and fixed it.
"There. All gone."
The angel sat back on his seat but couldn't keep his eyes from rolling as Crowley kept on wailing about your mini cow's "betrayal". As for you, you enjoyed being the only one back there and having all this space to yourself.
You safely lay there, your mind drifting as you watched the pair talk to each other. A mushy smile painted on your face. The gentle melody of the song "Too Much Love Will Kill You", by Queen, gave the impression of a waltz in your small, confined space. Your hand was massaging your scalp to sooth you and your drumming heart. Your smile fainted with a sigh. Control your emotions, you repeated to yourself. But when you felt, you lived it thoroughly. And deep down, you suffered from it. You weren't supposed to be here. You weren't supposed to bring an angel and a demon together. And you weren't supposed to stand in between them.
Your hand slide down your body and firmly grabbed your right arm. Aziraphale was upset; you sensed it through your own emotions. He was hoping to spend time with Crowley alone without you teasing him for your own amusement. You couldn't stand in the way. You didn't want to ruin it for them. You were running out of time.
Stay away from them. Let them be...
Your chest ached as tears welled up in your eyes. The seats squeaked as you turned around, your back facing the road. Eyes shot tight, lips shivered, and a lonesome whimper crossed the barrier of your mind. The sound alerted the angel, his nature urging him to react.
"What's wrong, dear ? Do you feel ill ?"
His concern will be your death.
"Just worried, that's all," you lazily replied, seeking to close the conversation as soon as possible and give your spotlight away.
Don't worry about me...
"No need; I'll be there to help you ! Once we get to the bookshop, we'll plan out our side of the story and stick to it." You felt his eyes on you.
Forget about me...
"Don't fuss about it." Crowley said as well. "Y'know, they're... well, they're not very bright." He laughed in a breath. Aziphale couldn't restrain himself from laughing either.
A smile brushed your cheeks, not strong enough to remain there, but warmth at least tried to make its way to your heart. You looked up hesitantly, and your eyes met Aziraphale's... affectionate? You blushed involuntarily. Not affection, but compassion. Sympathy even !
Bashful, you quickly turned your eyes and looked at the interior mirror. Crowley must have sensed your eyes on him, because he almost instantly looked up at you through the mirror and winked. You rolled over again and hugged yourself tightly.
Mmph...

The Frenchier Mistake
(aka Dean meets his celebrity crush: Actress!Reader)
Supernatural Masterlist // Full Masterlist
A/N: @princessmermaid1289 you'll never guess what I've only gone and done... I finished it! (we'll ignore it being well over a year later)
Actress!Reader x Sam and Dean
Clatters fill the bunker as all sorts of equipment and tools get dropped on the closest surface to the bottom of the staircase. Both Winchester brothers are incredibly over this last hunt. They were meant to be home days ago, thinking that they’d killed a whole nest of vamps; turns out these vampires were the vengeful kind, and when they found out that their friends had been savaged… well they didn’t take it lightly. It didn’t take them long to find the ’67 Chevy Impala on its route back to the bunker.
The respective hallways echo with heavy footsteps as the tire brothers silently bid each other goodnight before slinking behind their bedroom doors, each leaning their weight against them, unknowingly synchronised across rooms. It’s a miracle either of them even got their clothes off before collapsing into bed, finally getting a comfortable night’s rest they’d not had all week.
The two had a shock, however, when they were awoken by… clapping? Sam and Dean both shoot up in their beds, instantly trying to place what could be happening in their heads. As they’re processing the information around them, they begin to realise that the beds beneath them no longer feel like the comfortable ones they fell asleep in the night before. Hell, they’d had nicer motel beds than these. What are they? Solid wood? Dean runs his hand alongside his leg, pushing down on the barely-there mattress. Well, there’s some cushioning at least.
“That was a good one, guys!”
“Yeah, I think that’s us done for the night.”
The bodies in front of them slowly filtered out of the room while the two men made their way out of the prop beds. At a certain point, the wall separating their apparently-not-a-room ‘rooms’ ended, and the two brothers found themselves side by side. They turn to look at each other, then around what they’ve now realised is a tv set.
“Sammy?”
“Dean.”
“Tell me it’s not happened again.”
Sam swallows, hard. The lack of verbal response has Dean running a hand over his face. The next few moments are spent considering what actions may have led them to being stuck in this universe again. Several things get ruled out. They haven’t pissed off anyone with the ability to transport them across universe lately. Neither of them was messing with magic, or any practices to be clear, that could’ve gone wrong like this. It isn’t a dream that they’ve both ended up conscious in. There’s no way for anything to be an imminent threat. It is at this conclusion that Dean gets the best idea he thinks he has ever had in his life.
He's going to go flirt with some babes.
Dean quickly locates the door everyone had walked out of previously and practically drags his brother through it. Sam doesn’t quite process that he’s moving until his head almost hits the door frame on his way out of the building and his face screws up as he processes the information.
By the time Sam has gotten out of his own head Dean has already surveyed half the studios surrounding their own. As soon as a question begins forming on his tongue, Sam is pulled in another direction by Dean’s, arguably tight, grip on his forearm. Dean is on a mission as he glances around at the postered walls of each building. Honestly, Sam doesn’t understand how Dean even knows what he’s seen with how short the glances are. The sniffer dog act ends abruptly though when Dean receives all power of the moose that is his brother slam straight into his back, eliciting a grunt from the older, shorter brother.
“Not my fault you don’t come with brake lights.” Sam says with a shrug in response to Dean’s glare. “Why’d you stop so suddenly anyway?”
Dean simply turns around and gestures at the poster on the building directly in front of them. Sam, confused once more, delivers an expression to encourage elaboration.
“Dean, am I supposed to know what this is?”
“It’s a TV show. With doctors in it. Very dramatic. Heavy stuff.”
“And that’s supposed to help me how… oh. Is this that med show we got stuck in before?” An air of exasperation arrives by the end of Sam’s sentence.
Dean purses his lips and keeps his face hidden from Sam. He tries to tell himself that there’s nothing embarrassing about watching what is, frankly, just good television.
“Yeah, well… there’s… hot chicks.” Sure, that was convincing enough, Dean decides.
With a roll of his eyes, Sam follows Dean in through a door, slipping behind the few crew members who have just exited through it. They stick to the shadows, Dean, not so gently dragging Sam into the darkness with him, determined to sleuth out the space rather than risk immediate expulsion. Once, deemed safe, Dean slinks forward, attempting to contain his inner nerd, but ultimately coming to a halt as he ends up turns to face with someone he could never have prepared for.
The older Winchester’s eyes widen, pupils absolutely dilating – in fact, if this was the Scooby Doo crossover, there’d be audible ‘AWOOGA’s filling the silence. Dean Winchester has been infatuated with this actress since she began her role, how could he not? She’s inarguably the most attractive woman going, the amount on unsavoury concepts his filthy man brain has conjured up over the seasons… well, they’re better off inside his head, he thinks. A mental note recorded to not let any of them slip.
It has him in shock that she’s somehow existing in this universe. He’s in even more shock when he realises that it’s taken him ending up in another dimension to be in her presence, he was sure that he’d have to somehow get himself to that fan convention a few states over without Sam finding out, and yet, she’s here. They’re both there. A loud yell to cut triggers him to collect himself.
She sighs, walking out of the set, towards the snack table- towards him. He goes to inhale deeply, to settle his excitement before making a fool of himself, but she speaks before he can.
“Jensen? Jared?” there’s a lilt of interest in her voice, even excitement on her part.
Dean does a double take. She knows him. No. She knows Jensen. Well, that solidifies the theory that this is the same universe from before. Jensen. He can work with that.
“Hi.” He responds, his best charming smile sliding onto his face paired with a small wave of his hand. It encourages her to come closer, Dean internalises his celebration.
“Um, why-” her brow furrows, as she struggles to phrase a sentence, “You’re on my set? This- our set.”
“Yeah...” Dean nods, processing how he can spin this, “Actually, I- we- we came to see you."
Her face flushes, eyes widening slightly before she catches herself. “O-oh. You did?”
Dean nods, smiling at her again. Sam offers her a slightly awkward, but still kind, smile as her eyes flick over to him.
“Well, I was going to head to a bar after this shoot.” There’s an air of confidence flooding through her words now, she looks back at her director for the evening. He looks exhausted as he talks to other crewmembers, shaking his head. He mutters something. Then there’s a loud statement, letting everyone know they can go home for the night, they’ll try to get the scene tomorrow.
“A bar, you said?” Dean can’t hide his smirk as he gains her attention again.
She nods, “Yep. I- actually, think you’ll love it.”
“Lead the way then, Doctor.” He adds a laugh to this, hoping it doesn’t make her cringe. It makes Sam cringe, which earns the taller Winchester a not-so-subtle smack to the stomach. She, thankfully, laughs. Man is it one of the sweetest things he’s ever heard. He almost lets himself get lost in the sound before he remembers that this is not his universe, and that he’s not even himself here. He’s Jensen instead of Dean. On that topic, he considered whether anything indicated whether Jensen was in a relationship. He knows Sam has to act married; Jared having married ‘Fake Ruby’ and all that.
The two follow the actress.
They end up a street away from the studio. The lighting is low, but warm, almost comforting. Dean decides to be the gentleman and get the first round in. He asks the lady what she wants to drink, then hands his wallet to Sam, telling him to get him ‘a beer- no! No, a whiskey’. The two leave Sam at the bar to situate themselves in a more secluded booth in the back of the bar.
“Let's play a game.”
Dean’s head shoots around to her, eyebrow quirked and lips slightly smirked, challenging.
“I’m thinking... two truths, one lie?” There’s a playful tone to her voice as her lips morph to match his smirk.
“Oh, absolutely. We’re going to need shots...” Dean leaves the table just as Sam returns, earning him a confused look from his younger brother, but continuing with his mission regardless.
Once the older brother returns to the chosen booth with a tray of pre-poured shots, Sam takes one look and decides he wants no part, taking his chance to work out how the hell to get home instead. Dean, however, eagerly sits across from his celebrity crush, rubbing his hands after placing the tray down gently enough not to spill any nectar.
“Who’s up first?” he asks with a smirk, taking a swig out of his whiskey glass, he looks up to be met with a matching expression on the actress’ face as she begins to speak.
“I only got to where I am because I have a godparent high up in the industry. I speak multiple languages, aaaaand… I’ve been approached for… naughty modelling.” She finishes with a wink.
Dean’s biology serves him no favours as he processes her last insinuation, shuffling to obscure himself better under the table as he chokes a little on his whiskey.
“Well- I- The last one has to be a truth, there’s no way you haven’t. I mean, look at you.” His words met with a modest blush on her cheeks as she laughs a little. “There’s no way you can speak another language, well maybe for a role, but not fluently, so I call bull. Then that leaves the last truth to be nepo baby.”
“Take a shot. Or two… do you want to do a shot per wrong answer?”
“What? No- how’d I get that wrong?!”
“I’m not a nepo baby, just… either extremely lucky or someone was trying to get in my pants. Like the photographer that wanted me to pose nude for him… when I lived in France and spoke the language every day. Because I speak French. Fluently.”
Dean’s jaw drops open, sighing before he shoots two glasses back without a word. Y/N giving an approving nod.
“Your turn.”
It’s safe to say… Dean sucks at two truths and a lie. Or at least he does when any truths he could say sound crazier than any lies, especially when he reminds himself that he needs to play along as Jensen. In fact, he gets so many wrong that the night begins to blur, her needing to collect the next tray of shots as he fails to coordinate his way to the bar. By the time Sam returns, Dean’s slumped over in the booth, words barely English as they slur, and then, darkness.
When Dean sees the world again, he’s back in the concrete confines of the bunker. His brain struggling to work overtime to get his bearings and put memories in chronological order. Through his bedroom door comes Sam, acting as if nothing was wrong.
“Sammy- what- how’d we get home?” Dean’s voice comes out hoarse and gravelly as he speaks, rubbing his head.
“What do you mean? I drove.”
“Drove from… another universe?”
Sam laughs. “What?”
Dean’s face drops. “I- I- We were in that other place again- that- Ackles and Pada- Padalinski.”
Sam shakes his head, muttering to himself as he walks away, waiting until he’s around the corner before checking the photos remain on his phone. His brother blacked out the corner of the bar booth, his celeb crush posing next to him after covering his face with lipstick kisses.

One reason I love and tend to put in my fics a headcanon that Hob is functionally immortal on his own now—that even if Death theoretically withdrew the favor he wouldn’t die OR she in fact never gave the ability to him the first place she just let Dream think she did—is because of how much it would blow Dream’s mind.
Dream is, honestly, a monarchist. He is a monarch so it makes sense. He believes people are born into a certain station and role and even if it’s painful he holds himself to that same standard as he does his subjects. (Also an understandable mindset to have when being born into a role makes you a king, but I digress.) He treats mortals as lesser, not always and there’s a lot of caveats, but he definitely thinks he has the measure of humanity and he’s not always impressed or apt to change his behavior at a mere human’s request. He’s an arrogant sonofabitch and it’s literally the plot of the show that his imprisonment and ordeal begin to soften this arrogance. This isn’t conjecture.
So I love the idea that Dream has Hob in this little mental box labeled “Normal Human (exception: can’t die)(exception to exception: unless we change our minds)” and that he treats Hob as he would a human who just happens to have one unusual trait. He doesn’t share information with Hob. He clearly thinks himself superior at the beginning of their encounters. This changes of course, otherwise I wouldn’t ship them.
But I am just utterly tickled by the idea of Dream being all, “Yes, I have feelings for this human but he is just a human, born that way and fated to die someday, unless the Endless or the gods or the fae intervene, so it was never meant to be or I’ve learned from experience it can only end in tragedy.” Only for Death to pop in and be like “Oh, no, Hob is actually immortal now. He did it on his own. He wasn’t born that way, he really did just decide not to die and it’s a funny old universe that he wanted it enough that it actually worked.”
Like, that would make Dream’s head explode. That someone could achieve godhood or a supernatural nature not by birthright or blood, but by just being INCREDIBLY DRIVEN to wanting one thing more than any other creature ever has, and that is to live. And it’s just a random dude from a rainy island in the Middle Ages who watched half his village die of the Black Death and decided that wouldn’t be him. Just. Phenomenal. It’s just a weird thing that happened that it worked, but it’s the sort of weird things that often happens in the Sandman world, Dream just can’t wrap his mind around Hob being someone who achieves specialness on his own.
Anyway, I’m rambling. I should clarify I do not think this is canon. This is just a bit of headcanon I like to put in fics I write that I think isn’t necessarily contradicted by the show (my comic refresh has not yet begun in earnest so maybe there’s something there idk). It’s just fun to stick it to a blood-right idealizing monarchist brooding old as balls Dream lord the idea he doesn’t have it all figured out.

The Weewillmekq [Algonquin mythology; Native American mythology]
This creature, which originates from myths of the Native American Algonquin people in Canada, is a bit of an enigma. It is usually described as a small worm – about 2 – 3 inches or 5 – 8 cm long – inhabiting forested areas and found on dry wood. Though sometimes a Weewillmekq resides in rivers, in which case the creature is about as large as an adult horse and has forked horns on its head (sometimes it also has burning eyes like flames). Often, however, they are said to be snails rather than worms and the Passamaquoddy people even associate them with alligators. Regardless of what form the creature takes, it is always a powerful and mysterious supernatural being wielding potent magic.
In one particular anecdote, the Weewillmekq have the ability to attract lightning. More importantly, they can take on the form of a human being and – presumably – walk among us.
An Algonquin legend called ‘the dance of old age’ tells of an attractive young Wabanaki man whose beauty was matched by his bravery and hunting skills. He caught the eye of a girl in the village, who asked him to marry her. Though she was a beautiful woman, the man was busy preparing for a great hunt and couldn’t resort to such emotional theatrics. And so he turned her down. Unbeknownst to him, the girl was experienced in magic and cursed him for wounding her pride. She spoke: “you may go now, but you shall never return like you went”. Nothing happened and the young man left, neither fearing nor caring about her curse. Time passed, and one day in mid-winter, when the boy was out in the forest with his brother, the girl’s magic struck him, breaking his mind and rendering him insane.
The young man’s older brother understood what had happened. Now desperate to save his brother, he went to find a river and started chanting a song to summon a Weewillmekq. “What do you want from me?” asked the monster. The man replied “I wish to restore my brother’s sanity”. “That which you ask of me, I shall grant you, provided you are not afraid.” But the man was incredibly brave and said “I am not scared of anything”. “Not even of me?” asked the horned creature. “No, not of you, not even of Mitche-hant.” (small note: Mitche-hant is a dangerous creature associated with evil. He is compared with the Christian devil). And so the creature agreed to grant the man his wish, but on one condition: he had to prove his bravery by grabbing the Weewillmekq by his horns and scrape residue off them with his knife. Though the monster was terrifying, the man complied and did as he was told. The Weewillmekq then gave him instructions to mix half of the horn scrapings in a cup of water and make his brother drink it. This would heal his mind. The other half should be mixed with the drink of the girl who cast the curse: this would be her punishment.
Again, the man did as instructed, and the mixture healed his brother. The two went back to their village, where they found that a large party was going on. People were dancing and having fun, and the spellcaster was among them. The younger brother sought her out and offered her the drink with the horn scrapings in it. She was merry and tired from dancing, and so did not notice who he was. Without thinking she took the cup and drank it.
The spell took effect immediately: with every turn the girl took while dancing, the aged one year. Starting out as a young girl, she soon became 50 when reaching the other end of the room. When she reached her starting point, she was 100 years old and dropped dead on the floor.

Milestone Monster: Nocticula, Our Lady in Shadow
Tumblr media
CR 30
Chaotic Evil Medium Outsider
Adventure Path: Wrath of the Righteous: The Midnight Isles, pg. 86=87 (image taken from Elena Kononenkos’ artstation; it’s officially used in the Wrath of the Righteous video game!)
I put off reviewing Nocticula for the longest time for one specific reason: it’s incredibly hard to find art of her that could potentially bypass Tumblr’s ban on things which could cost them advertising money. Now, with those restrictions.... ?somewhat? ?lifted?, I feel as though I can finally star her in an article while using the best possible piece of art to represent her. I feel like no other piece before this one does justice to the Queen of the Succubi; every other piece shows off her Succubus side, but only this one shows off the Queen; The infinitely scheming and domineering presence in the Abyss, apex of demonic power, and voted Most Likely To Be The Next Demon God for a millennium running due to her penchant for stealing power from everyone who makes the mistake of allying with her and thinking they’re going to survive her wrath if they disappoint her.
To anyone who got into Pathfinder via its 2nd Edition (or completed the WotR video game), it may come as no surprise to you to find out that Nocticula succeeded in her quest to shed her evil nature and ascend to divine status as she did so, but it may come as some surprise to find out just what kind of cocoon the Redeemer Queen emerged from, which is what we’ll be covering today; not what she is now, but the powerhouse she was.
While a great many Demon Lords can claim to have body counts exceeding three or four digits thanks to their actions, directly or indirectly, Nocticula not only has a considerable body count of mortals, but several DOZEN other Demon Lords. Her Abyssal realm, the Midnight Isles, is literally built on the corpses of every Demon Lord she seduced and betrayed, taking their power and their bank accounts for herself. You would think after the first three or four, people would get wise to it. Perhaps they would... if Nocticula’s wings weren’t covered, back to front and top to bottom, with the names of still-living allies she’s chosen to bless, each benefiting from her Profane Ascension, a boon she can grant to any willing creature she lays with (or just kisses). Not only do the recipients get a +6 to one ability score of their choice, +4 to a second, See in Darkness, and a constant telepathic connection with dear Nocty (across any distance, even interplanar), but at any time they can request any of her spell-likes and she can grant them the power to use them. With this attractive blessing the LEAST of the gifts she can grant anyone she deems worthy of her time, it perhaps comes as no surprise that everyone wants a piece of her empire for one reason or another.
That she can revoke her Ascension at will and strike the victim with an unavoidable, no-save-allowed 4d6 Charisma drain and 1d10+10 negative levels is of little consequence. Everyone believes they’ll be the ones to remain permanently on her good side by being perfect little servants, that they have something unique only they can offer her, and the especially bold think they’ll be the one to finally betray and overwhelm her. They rarely ever consider her thousands of years of practice, her intelligence and patience, and her raw, ego-crushing power, dismissing each as below their own practice, patience, and power.
And then they end up as another corpse in her collection. Yet another divinity made humble and reduced to pavement by one of the most powerful demigods in all of Pathfinder.
Let’s get the first and most important part of her kit out of the way before we talk about literally anything else: Noticula’s Seductive Presence. Every other Demon Lord has an aura of supernatural terror, sending their lessers fleeing before them and paralyzing some opponents with overwhelming fear... but not Nocty. Dear Nocty can activate her Seductive Presence by merely speaking, forcing everyone and everything within 180ft of her to make a DC 43 Fortitude save. Success sees the victim immune to the Succubus Queen’s presence for a full 24 hours, but failure is incredibly punishing: ALL immunity to mind-affecting effects, charm effects, and compulsion effects is ignored so long as they remain within 180ft of her. No matter what the source of the immunity is, be it magical, racial immunity, or immunity as granted by divinity, it no longer applies while Nocty is in the room.
Suddenly, everyone falling head over heels for her makes a little more sense. if she can seduce machines, plants, oozes, and demigods, what hope does an actual mortal humanoid have? Many demigod-level entities have full immunity to mind-affecting effects, meaning they may be caught by complete surprise when they find themselves hanging onto her every word without realizing it. Fun aside: With a save DC of 43, none of the other statted Demon Lords automatically succeed; the highest Fortitude save belongs to Xoveron, who has +38, meaning he fails if he rolls less than a 6.
Failing the save against her Presence causes the victim to become fascinated for 5d4 rounds, which typically gives her enough time to decide how she wants to deal with a particular impediment. Equally skilled in diplomacy and violence, Nocticula can skip the middleman and basically use both with gaze alone: At will, as a standard action, Nocticula can simply Dominate a single creature she can see unless it succeeds a DC 43 Will save. The Dominate ability can act as either Dominate Creature or Dominate Person depending on if she’s aiming it at a Humanoid or not, and in the latter case? It becomes a swift action instead of a standard one, meaning she can do it twice a round against a party of Humanoids (or a party with at least one Humanoid). And remember that any hope of no-selling her mental powers is suppressed if you fail that single save you need to make before the fight even begins! This, ironically, means boosting your saves is more important than becoming outright immune to her tricks, as Seductive Presence has no effect on anything bolstering saving throws.
Provided her 3/day Quickened Mass Suggestion didn’t convince the whole party to willingly fail their save against her Presence and thus end the battle before it even started, an actual slugfest with her is so god damn difficult your party may wonder if working for her would be easier than working against her. Starting with the most obvious: Time Stop is a scary spell for a creature as powerful as Nocty, though she has no buffs to make it particularly worthwhile to do so... but what she does have is a 3/day Summon Demons, conjuring upwards to three CR 20 encounters to fight alongside her. While any party able to contend with the CR 30 demigoddess herself isn’t likely to be significantly inconvenienced by even the most powerful of demons, suddenly having to contend with thirty extra bodies between them and a ranged-attack specialist that can fly (not to mention Blasphemy and Chaos Hammer being thrown out with no fear of friendly fire) will, if nothing else, force the party to expend time and resources getting through them.
With the ability to both see in and create supernatural darkness (via at-will Deeper Darkness), Nocty can also use extra rounds of Time Stop to plunge the arena into pitch black she can easily navigate through. Whether it’s through summoning flankers or through the party not being able to see her (or both), Nocty has two separate ways to tack her +4d6 Sneak Attack damage to her dizzying array of damage dealing limbs, three if you count her Greater Feint letting her throw an opponent off-guard as a move action... and four if a DM feels clever, using either her at-will Shapechange or her ability to assume the form of any Humanoid as a free action to pose as a harmless pet, blend in with the crowd of summoned demons, or even hide among the party members. That last one is especially insidious, as who’d call foul about the party Cleric stepping over to slap a new buff onto someone in the middle of combat to counter the darkness or the demon swarm? Unfortunately, a single touch could potentially allow Nocty to get in for a debilitating kiss, her Energy Drain sapping 2 levels from anyone she kisses or caresses with no save... Unless, for whatever reason, they’re not Mythic, which means they take 1d6+4 negative levels instead. But, come on, if you’re fighting Nocticula, you’re gonna be Mythic, right? Or at least have Death Ward up, for god’s sake! NEVER grapple with a succubus without protection!
there i made the joke so no one else has to.
Anyway, I talked about her Sneak Attack before I talked about her regular attacks, didn’t I? She’s got quite the menagerie, and every attack but her two wings (1d6+4) inflicts a different debuff. Her two claws (1d8+12) inflict 1d4 Cha drain as she tears away the victim’s sense of self; her molten hooves deal 1d4+6 damage, 1d6 Fire damage, and set whoever they stomp on fire for 3d6 damage every round; and her trio of whipping, barbed tails deal 2d6+12 damage and afflict victims with a ferocious poison that deals 1d4 Wisdom drain and paralyzes the victim for 1 round if they fail the DC 44 Fortitude save. Failing two saves in a row inflicts permanent blindness, adding a fifth way for Nocty to reap the benefits of her Sneak Attack.
Something special about Nocty’s poison is that it has no cure save. It WILL last 6 full rounds and cannot be prematurely ended by making any number of saves; if you want it ended early, it needs to be via magic. This makes being exposed to repeat doses extremely dangerous, each one adding +2 to the save DC and +3 rounds of duration, but Nocty has no way to bypass poison immunity of any sort (except via Greater Dispel Magic versus magical means), so acquiring a means to stop her from driving you and your party insane should be top priority. Especially since we haven’t even covered something I alluded to three paragraphs ago: Her ranged prowess.
Her unique hand crossbow, Shadowkiss, is her comically undersized but disproportionately damaging weapon of choice--think the Noisy Cricket but without the dramatic recoil. Less of a kiss and more of a ‘hit you with my car’ type of deal going on. This +5 Unholy Hand Crossbow deals 1d4+20 damage and carries Nocty’s tenacious poison with every single shot, and if you’re wondering where that titanic flat damage is coming from: +5 from the enchantment, and +15 from Nocty’s Charisma modifier, as her Cruel Shots ability adds her Cha mod to all ranged weapon attack damage. Furthermore, each time Shadowkiss deals damage to a creature, it gains Bane against that creature’s type until it damages a different creature type, so that’s +2 to attack and damage rolls and +2d6 extra damage. Against a Good-aligned foe she’s already attacked, that means Shadowkiss is dealing 1d4+2d6+22 damage with every shot (+4d6 Sneak Attack if they’re impaired or tangled in melee), of which she can make five a round if she takes a Full-Attack thanks to her Rapid Shot feat. That’s not the only feat she has to empower her ranged attacks, either; she also has the standard Point-Blank and Precise Shot, as well as Flyby Attack because why wouldn’t she, but Rapid Shot is definitely the star player, giving her not only more damage (of course), but potentially giving Shadowkiss one extra chance each round to critically strike, which it does on a 17~20 (which lets her add Staggering Critical to deny your own Full-Attacks).
If all five shots from Shadowkiss land and each dose of poison is successfully delivered, that means the poor soul has to make a DC 54 save every round for 18 rounds to avoid taking drain and being paralyzed...  Y;know, if the 5d4+100 damage didn’t kill threaten their life enough. And obviously, between each Full-Attack, she’ll be burning her swift action firing off Dominate at every opportunity that arises just because she can, which your party will gradually become more and more vulnerable to because of her poison.
I like to think there’s a great many beings in the cosmos that breathed a sigh of relief when Nocticula shed her demonic heritage, but no greater a sigh was heaved than the one exhaled by the denizens of the Abyss itself, if only because now the Demon Lord that other Demon Lords feared was gone.
You can read more about her here.

About the new arc
Once I saw someone commenting that because this new arc (which I'll refer to as that for now) has a similar proposal to the PP arc, it made it a little stand out.
But I will show from my point of view why even with similar proposals they are completely different.
Think of a famous anime concept like, a somewhat outcast person who ends up discovering an incredible ability and becomes famous. Can you think of some animes with this proposal, right? My example is My Hero Academia and Haikyuu, they have the same proposal but they are completely different, one is a hero anime and the other a sports anime and so on.
It's the same thing with these arcs. Same proposal, "a new reality in which we want to escape" but different situations and reasons.
In the PP arc we have Hanako wanting to keep Yashiro safe from her death, asking Shijima to create a fictional world so she could live in a perfect reality. In this arc we have Yashiro and Kou wanting to escape the painting, but with the dilemma of being in a perfect reality and thinking that "maybe it's better here", but in the end we know that they work hard to get out of there. We have the presence of supernaturals such as Hanako, Mistuba and Shijima in this arc, they actively participate in the choices and dilemma, showing more of their motives and anxieties, in addition to this arc being an arc about a school mystery as well.
The situation is much simpler compared to now, as nothing was changed but created. Yashiro and Kou could easily get out of there by killing Hanako and Mitsuba, but they refused to do so (for obvious reasons) and that created a whole question of how they would get out of there. However, they knew that it was possible to leave, that the usual reality would be there when they left the painting, it would be like waking up from a dream. See? It's a much simpler situation to resolve if you put your feelings aside. PP arc becomes complex due to the characters' feelings, which makes them face this dilemma whether to get out of there or not. Without feelings and just the desire to leave, Yashiro and Kou wouldn't have thought twice about killing Hanako and Mitsuba (because they were both already dead, so they wouldn't die again).
Picture Perfect was an extreme solution to an unsolvable problem that could have been ended if feelings were put aside.
And again, in PP arc nothing was changed but created.
Now moving on to the new arc. The situation is much more complicated, reality has changed. The timeline was changed in the past to generate the present now. See how the problem gets much more complicated? Things were changed by a force majeure in a measure to return normality and ensure the stability of the world, and not a protective measure that was made using feelings.
This is something you shouldn't go out with, since now this is what you have. You shouldn't try to change things. The timeline has been changed and you should just accept it.
Since we know our protagonists don't want this and seem to have already made the decision to change things again, you don't get into a dilemma (at least not for now). Your problem now is how to change things. In PP arc the solution had been given but the decision was a problem, now the decision was taken but the solution was the problem.
They need to find out what the Clock Keepers changed and need to stop that change from happening. Now it would be about figuring out how to solve the problem and not the difficulty of making the decision.
In addition to the protagonists of the arcs not being all the same (PP arc: Yashiro, Kou, Hanako, Mistuba and Shijima; New arc: Yashiro, Teru, Akane and maybe Aoi (not sure about the twins for now)), the antagonists are not the same either (PP arc: Hanako and kinda Shijima; New arc: Maybe the twins and Clock Keepers). They are arcs with practically the same proposal but completely different executions and lines of thought.
And so, if you also thought the same as the person I mentioned at the beginning, I think you should think about this arc with a little more open mind. JSHK plays a lot with reality, and they using this concept again doesn't surprise me, but it excites me to see how even with the same proposal we will have very different situations.
And if you want a quick conclusion to all this, PP arc is about a creation and this new arc about a change.

Ghost Hunt Project Update
So far I've summarized the main points I want to focus on for the first three books, as outlined here:
Book One:
Each novel builds on the social price of being a "weird" kid growing up in a collectivist society. We're first introduced to Mai, who's interested in weird things in a way that that doesn't push the boundaries of her society. When eerie things begin to happen in the old school, she sees first hand in her classmate who *does* push those boundaries what that social price is: gossip that will stay with her forever, and affect her life forever, as high school experiences are clung to, far, far into adulthood. High school is the last time kids are considered kids, free of the pressures of oncoming adulthood (which is bullshit, as seen by how gossiped about and isolated Mai's classmate becomes.
Book Two:
The second book hones in on how events that push the credulity of a collectivist society effect an individual family. Mai initially makes the same assumption about what happened in her first encounter with the supernatural at her school because it no longer pushes that incredulity as much as it did before she met Naru and the others. As with the family, she's hoping for an answer to what's happening that won't upset their place in the community. The most affected character in the book is far, far younger than Mai and the others, which ups the stakes of the events affecting her life from a much younger age. Mai also gets to know the other adults much better, and her powers begin to assert themselves, beginning her journey towards Otherness.
Book Three:
Back in a school setting, Mai once again finds herself facing directly the consequences of nonconformity, as a young adult, getting closer and closer to true adulthood-- a point in her life that she's expected to drop any "childish" belief. The hitch this time is that there's an adult in the mix who clearly struggles with surviving life as a weird adult, and takes that out on SPR's client, Kasai, a genuine psycho-kineticist. The adults in SPR are incredibly split on whether Kasai is the victim or the villain, which reveals much of the baggage they still hold from surviving being a weird kid and making it to adulthood. As Mai sees how seemingly easy it is for psychic ability to destroy a person and make them willing to destroy another's life, she hopes she *doesn't* have those powers-- but she does, and her journey to Otherness is now officially on its way.
This is it so far-- as I'm using the books only, there won't be anything on the Christmas episode or the ghost in the park episode. Forbidden Past-time will be the most meaty book as far as making my primary point that surviving being a weird kid is more worth it than anyone could ever imagines it would be-- especially when right before Mai's powers are confirmed, she sees one of the worst case scenarios for becoming not just a weird, but a creepy, bitter, manipulative adult.
Miss Ubusuna is such a skin-ceawlingly disgusting character, and to counterpoint her with Naru (and Gene, before he shuffled off the mortal coil) (who were kept near-entirely out of the public eye) and Mai, who's only just discovering that otherness and clearly fears it, was such a fantastic writing decision on Ono's part. Even before the readers know Naru's true identity, he sympathizes with Ubusuna to a surprising degree, though cannot justify her near-murder of her work colleagues and the unbearly cruel ways she screwed with Kasai's head.
Getting through Forbidden Past-time will take forever because with Yasu we finally get into queer otherness and Ono's most scathing indictment of the Japanese school system to date. What happens when someone doesn't survive being a weird kid? What happens when, unlike Ubsuna, they do take the step to end their life?

After watching Secret Society of Second Born Royals (again) and hearing that line about how it's been a thing for over a thousand years that second born royal siblings have superpowers, I wanted to make a listing of some disney/pixar characters who, by that logic, would have powers, and my theories as to what those powers would be!
Princess Amber (Sofia the First)
Tumblr media
My sister and I feel like Royal Prep from Sofia is a lot of the inspiration for the Strathmore school for royals from SSOSB, so it makes sense that some characters from the Sofiaverse get to be part of the society. With Amber's character development throughout Sofia, by the time she got her powers, she would've been a force for good with them and gotten to keep them. Her story is a lot about handling her jealousy and learning that the world doesn't revolve around her, and I think her powers might have something to do with that.
Isabel (Elana of Avalor)
Tumblr media
Isabel would definitely get to keep her powers, and they'd probably have to do with a super-charged memory or powers of incredible retention of information.
Alana (The Little Mermaid)
Tumblr media
(Alana is the second to last one in this gif.) She's somewhat obsessed with beauty, though not in a vain way. I think shapeshifting or some kind of charmspeak would make sense with her.
Anna (Frozen)
Tumblr media
Based on what we know from Frozen, either Anna was a very late bloomer, or she ended up stripped of her powers. It might be because of what she saw Elsa go through with her powers that she decided to renounce them entirely— or, because Elsa found out about her supernatural abilities and didn't want Anna to feel like a monster like she did, so she made sure her sister's powers were revoked to protect her from public opinion.
Prince Ralphie (Princess and The Frog)
Tumblr media
Ralphie would have a unique balance of roles to handle, as both a second-born royal and, since his older brother was disinherited, eventual king, but I think he'd do well!
one of the triplets (Brave)
Tumblr media
I can't find any information on which of the triplets is the oldest. Based on the fact that January had powers and her twin brother did not, we can assume only the oldest of these boys would be a super, which might cause some rifts or tension when he has to keep it a secret from his brothers.
I may make another post like this later about any Second Born Royals from OUaT, but for now, what are y'all's thoughts?

Gargoyle!Kaito AU Ideas:
Some background about the Gargoyle:
gargoyles are originally a response to Pandora, the mythical 'Hope' to finally put an end to the immortal jewel once and for all
gargoyles are an extremely rare kind of dragon
they are born guardians and protectors
unlike other living beings, gargoyles are not born thru bloodline but thru the soul which is why a gargoyle can be anyone from anywhere in the world
there can only be one gargoyle at a time, born when the previous gargoyle is dead or nearing their end
gargoyles are actually human by birth, born on the full moon. however, they'll only become gargoyles if they accept the pull of their soul's calling
those who didn't answer, they have a strong affinity to the magical, spiritual and supernatural, loyal allies to the current gargoyle. over the millennias, they're known simply as The Clan
the myth of gargoyles turning into stone during the day, have some truth in it but not in the way people assumed. 'turning into stone' simply means they can't use their abilities freely unless they're incredibly powerful
even during the day, a gargoyle is far stronger than a human
gargoyles are white/silver in colour with bright gold eyes
they're immune to magic
gargoyles are very protective of those they love
they mate for life, developing a soulbond with their chosen mate once they've consummated their bond
Kaito as the Last Gargoyle:
he accepted his soul's calling when he was 7, a few months before he moved to Japan from France
he accepted his calling in Notre Dame, after he threw himself off the roof and took his first flight
his family knows
kaito's powers became dormant when he was traumatised by touichi's murder
he regained them when he was falling to his death after Snake shot him on 'Blue Birthday'
even though he couldn't reveal his identity yet, he told shinichi (when he was still conan) about being a gargoyle as a sign of trust. it took a bit of convincing since shinichi, like any other human being, has a hard time wrapping his head around anything that was supposed to be 'fantasy' but accepted it far more easily once he 'eliminated the impossible' as holmes would say
that, and he trusted kaito unconditionally by then but couldn't face what that actually means for him until much later
kaishin as SOULBOND MATES dammit!
that's it for now, i'll add more later if i have anything else to add

What if... Shaun had planned for Ian to cheat on Alice so he could be with her? What if Alice doesn't choose Jack and decides to be with Shaun?
If Ian finds out, he won't be happy.
Ohhhh my... Alice certainly wouldn’t be happy to find out about that.
I’ve seen that theory before about Shaun convincing Ian to cheat in order to break up the happy couple. It’s incredibly manipulative, though it would fit if Shaun is a yandere (along with possibly all the rest of the male leads) and not as nice and friendly as he presents himself. I even contemplated how Shaun (and the others) might be uniquely yandere in a previous post.
It reminds me of this lovely yandere Shaun art Sauce did on their now gone twitter. They really managed to make such a cuddly goth butterball so unsettling here...
Tumblr media
Credit, as always, goes to Sauce for their amazing artwork. As always, I want to direct you all to the SnaccPop Studios patreon. I also want to remind folks not to repost any of the privately posted patreon content. Sauce always deserves credit and is super generous and kind to allow me to use these publicly posted pictures in my posts like this. They’re awesome and deserve all the love and support we can throw at them and the team for letting us play with such great stories and characters!
Anyway, back to the topic of Shaun being a scary manipulative yandere puppet master...
The biggest reason why Alice chooses Jack rather than Shaun is because of the connection Jack and Alice have. He has a supernatural cheat, so to speak. She’s able to feel that Jack loves her and it goes a long way helping her heal after all the pain Ian put her through.
Ian, plus years of bullying, made Alice feel like he was the only one in the world who could ever be attracted to her or love her romantically. Then he betrayed her. He left her feeling undeserving of that sort of love and affection, especially since she is choosing to “abandon” him even though he’s so sorry.
This is the biggest hurdle to overcome when it comes to Alice opening her heart to love again. Her ability to feel Jack’s love goes a long way in helping her accept his love, that he isn’t going to hurt her like Ian did, and that she is worthy of love. Without that connection, it would take a lot longer for anyone to build up that level of trust to give her the courage to try again. Shaun or any other suitor would need to rely on patience and time before she even considered romance again. We’re talking years of building up trust.
I mean... Ian spent many years building up trust with Alice only to twist and destroy it. That’s not something easy to repair, even with a supernatural booster.
Plus Shaun was gone at that point, leaving Alice to feel alone until Jack came into her life. In a way, Shaun did the same thing Ian did when he left her behind to pursue his desired career. It’s not his fault, and she certainly doesn’t equate him to Ian, but she’s still left feeling lonely.
Alice was at the loneliest point in her life when Jack appeared. He’s too good to be true in so many ways, which is another reason why Sunshine in Hell is going to be a slow burn despite his cheat power. If something is too good to be true, it probably is, after all...
As such, by the time Shaun comes back into the picture, he’s too late to be chosen by Alice. He kind of self-sabotaged by leaving her alone, though even if he stayed, Jack would be incredibly stiff competition and would have the advantage due to their supernatural bond. It’s incredibly unlikely that Alice would choose anyone else with Jack around.
I did, however, consider an alternate universe where Alice never watched the tape and wound up with Shaun in this post. It’s a slower burn romance where he eventually helps her open up her heart to the possibility of love again after years have passed. It’s pretty sweet in its own right.
Though... if Shaun was manipulating her all along, that adds quite a bitter taint to the Shaun x Alice AU... and things would certainly end in a very sour way...
If Alice found out the person she opened up her heart to after Ian betrayed her was arguably even more toxic than Ian was... that would crush her. Learning that Ian was manipulated into cheating just as a ploy to get her? She would feel dirty in a way she couldn’t forgive. It would prevent her from trusting anyone again.
Except for maybe a supernatural entity who manages to touch her heart directly with his.
Though, even then, Jack would have a harder time even with that “cheat” helping Alice heal. She was devastated after Ian. Shaun doing something like this might practically destroy her. It’s a good thing Jack would be able to understand her and is patient. His sunshine is worth all the time in the world.
But man... imagine a tangled up mess of yanderes all toying with and crushing Alice’s heart in order to possess her... That’s an even more morbid AU than the Bad End AU, IMHO.
If Ian was a yandere in this twisted AU as well, hooooo boy. That would make it even worse. Most likely someone would wind up dead in the end.
How I can imagine this twisted timeline playing out would be similar to the sweet version of the Shaun x Alice AU... only after Alice blocks Ian, that gets Ian into a panic, to push even harder to get back in touch with her. Shaun would have to continue the manipulation on both sides, to make sure Ian won’t admit the truth and that Alice will keep pushing Ian away.
If Shaun was being a manipulative chess master, he would probably try and arrange other situations to push him and Alice closer together. He wouldn’t necessarily be patient enough to wait for her to heal on her own, if she ever does. If he went to the lengths of sabotaging her relationship to get her, then he’s going to do more.
Since this version of Shaun would be the sort of person who doesn’t care if Alice or others get hurt as long as she winds up with him, even if only justifying that a “little” pain is worth a “happy ending” with him... I’m sure he would set up more situations that hurt her and make her desperately in need of love and support. Fortunately, good ole Shaun is there for her...
Love, however, isn’t something that’s easy to manipulate into growing. It relies on emotion and that isn’t an exact science. The more hurt Alice is, the more cautious she is about being hurt again. I can easily see ploys backfiring. Sure she clings to Shaun more for support and comfort as awful things happen, but with her luck being so abysmal, she would be that much more afraid of ruining what they have by changing the relationship.
Then there’s also Ian’s role in things. He isn’t sitting back and letting his relationship with Alice die so easily. He would be even more determined if he was talked into wrecking his relationship by the person who she is suddenly spending all her time with.
It would be a pretty fucked up thing if Shaun managed to toy with Alice’s life and heart like this in order to win her like a prize, and Ian won’t just idly sit still and let that happen. They would be both trying to bind her to them with the red string of fate, as it were... only poor Alice would be strangled by the red string in the process...
When Alice finds out the truth in this universe - and believe me the truth would definitely come out eventually - she would be devastated. I can’t understate how much this would hurt her and make her feel used and filthy. The poor girl would be broken. It’s the worst case scenario... and the sort of reason why she was so hesitant to try love again.
In this sort of AU, Alice would be a mess, especially by the end of the story. She would’ve been used and betrayed in the worst ways imaginable with her mind fucked up by all the emotional manipulation... not to mention all the blood, violence, madness, and death that likely would result from two yanderes facing off and fighting over her, twisting her heart to pieces.
Plus, if Shaun is the type of yandere to justify hurting Alice in order to keep her, how far would he take it? How much worse would he do to her? Would he go as far as to lock her up or cripple her? Blind her like Moon Pie and keep her in a cage? He already damaged her very badly emotionally, so who knows how far he might go...
It’s a scary thought... and more reason why I’d want Alice to play the tape before things get past the point of no return in this sort of AU.
Yes, it would be adding another dangerous yandere to the mix, but at least Jack draws the line at hurting Alice. He’s manipulative, he makes his sunshine feel good to draw her in, and he uses other unsavory tactics, but he won’t do anything she doesn’t want, and he doesn’t want to hurt her. Those are lines he will not cross.
In the end, Alice would be left broken, and Jack would have to be the one to put the pieces back together. It would take much more time for her to trust again and heal, so much more than in the normal universe, but I’m sure Jack can be patient... after he’s taken care of Shaun and Ian.
Though I imagine it wouldn’t quite be so easy if Shaun is a manipulative puppet master. He might get wise to something supernatural going on, if Alice didn’t outright tell him about Jack in this universe. I can tell you, Jack and Shaun certainly wouldn’t be friends in this AU.
I’m going to say Jack wins out in the end and eventually helps Alice heal, even if it takes a long time even with their bond... if only because this AU idea is just too depressing and dark for me otherwise.
Hurt in fiction is only fun when comfort follows, after all... and Alice is going to need a lot of comfort in a painful AU like this one.

But she sleep on, and I may not wake her though I try. I do not wish to try too hard lest I harm her; for I know that she have suffer much, and sleep at times be all-in-all to her. I think I drowse myself, for all of sudden I feel guilt, as though I have done something; I find myself bolt up, with the reins in my hand, and the good horses go along jog, jog, just as ever. I look down and find Madam Mina still sleep. It is now not far off sunset time, and over the snow the light of the sun flow in big yellow flood, so that we throw great long shadow on where the mountain rise so steep. For we are going up, and up; and all is oh! so wild and rocky, as though it were the end of the world.
Then I arouse Madam Mina. This time she wake with not much trouble, and then I try to put her to hypnotic sleep. But she sleep not, being as though I were not. Still I try and try, till all at once I find her and myself in dark; so I look round, and find that the sun have gone down. Madam Mina laugh, and I turn and look at her. She is now quite awake, and look so well as I never saw her since that night at Carfax when we first enter the Count's house. I am amaze, and not at ease then; but she is so bright and tender and thoughtful for me that I forget all fear. I light a fire, for we have brought supply of wood with us, and she prepare food while I undo the horses and set them, tethered in shelter, to feed. Then when I return to the fire she have my supper ready. I go to help her; but she smile, and tell me that she have eat already—that she was so hungry that she would not wait. I like it not, and I have grave doubts; but I fear to affright her, and so I am silent of it. She help me and I eat alone; and then we wrap in fur and lie beside the fire, and I tell her to sleep while I watch. But presently I forget all of watching; and when I sudden remember that I watch, I find her lying quiet, but awake, and looking at me with so bright eyes. Once, twice more the same occur, and I get much sleep till before morning. When I wake I try to hypnotise her; but alas! though she shut her eyes obedient, she may not sleep. The sun rise up, and up, and up; and then sleep come to her too late, but so heavy that she will not wake. I have to lift her up, and place her sleeping in the carriage when I have harnessed the horses and made all ready. Madam still sleep, and she look in her sleep more healthy and more redder than before. And I like it not. And I am afraid, afraid, afraid!—I am afraid of all things—even to think but I must go on my way. The stake we play for is life and death, or more than these, and we must not flinch.
So... this passage has a lot of red flags.
Mina wakes laughing, and is incredibly cheerful given the circumstances. At times this cheer seems to have an almost supernatural ability to erase Van Helsing's unease (reminding me of the vampire ladies at first).
Then Mina preps the food but refuses to have any, saying she couldn't wait and has already eaten. This is straight out of Dracula's playbook when Jonathan arrived at the castle.
Meanwhile, Van Helsing keeps drifting off and falling asleep. This could just be because he's been pushing himself really hard to stay awake (as we know from previous Mina entries) but the way he writes about just kind of finding himself asleep reminds me a lot of Mina when Dracula was preying on her. Not to mention, Mina herself now looks healthier and redder than before. Which he does say happens in her sleep in the morning, but also comes about right after she's been lying awake watching him and he has slept a lot throughout the night. (Besides, that may just be when there is enough light for him so see her well.)
Adding in the hypnotism no longer working at all, and the number of times Mina's smile is mentioned. That's another very early!Dracula trait, where he is described smiling so very often. She's sleeping all day, awake all night. Even though she was awake during the night (very awake, very cheerful and alert) she couldn't write in her journal - and full vampires are always the other, the unknown, we never see their writing.
Mina may have drunk Van Helsing's blood tonight.

How did the Operator and Charles meet?[PUPPET STRINGS LORE DUMP]
Hello! Sorry I haven't posted an AU related post in a while, my mental health's been in a slump and I've just been so tired recently lmao.
Anyways! I wanted to create this post since I realised that I've barely touched upon this topic, even though It's a pretty important piece of lore in my AU (in my opinion!). Thank you for all the notes and followers, I appreciate it a lot!
Okay, so without further ado...
How did this happen?
Now, the Operator meeting Charles and turning him into its 'Puppet' or 'Vessel' of sorts is one of THE key events to happen in my AU. It serves as the catalyst for everything that happens after that point, directly or indirectly.
The Operator, and by default the cult forming has SORT of its own post, even though it's more of a prose than an actual comprehensive explanation.
Here it is anyway!:
(Sorry, I don't know how to make hyperlinks yet, I'm still a rookie lol)
One thing to note is that whilst the Operator is the most 'powerful' character in my AU, he's not actually that powerful by God standards. Whilst at times Gods CAN perform miracles and interact with the mortal plane of thought, the Operator could not. Although it could appear appear to those who truly needed it and act out peoples wishes, its ability to do this was incredibly unstable.
After a while, it figured out that it needed a something, or rather SOMEONE to act as its buffer between it and its followers, to gain more faith. So, around the later 1800s, it began to look for a Vessel for it to live inside.
So, a little bit of world building in my AU, but supernatural possession can only occur in my AU is the soul is 'open'. When demonic or any form of possession occurs, the demon, or whatever supernatural creature, physically ENTERS into the mortal's soul. The soul only 'opens' if the human is close to death or is extremely distressed in one way or another. Traumatised or sickly people are must easier than a mentally stable, healthy person.
After killing several people after ripping its way into their souls, the Operator realised that not only did it need someone younger (preferrably child age), but someone who was on the verge or death or someone who had faced a lot of pain and suffering, so it set out to find such a mortal.
Several children began to go missing from slumhouses, orphanages, factories, and hospitals. They'd all be found dead just days later, scattered in a random landfill site or in public areas. Their cause of death was almost always undetermined.
Since they were children that 'wouldn't be missed', the missing cases went without much public fanfare. As they went without any public attention, the Operator and the followers of the Third Eye (the main cult it operated) continued to take children and even take children that wandered too close.
However, none of them could handle it, and every child or teenager ended up instantly dead or in extreme physical pain before being executed by the followers themselvses.
This is where Charles comes in.
You see, Charles' soul was very much 'open' as he was maybe a few weeks away from death, the closest any child had ever been. I wouldn't say he had trauma at the time, but he definitely wasn't having that much of an easy time, considering he didn't really know human interaction nor affection of any kind.
Whether it was fate or purposeful meddling from the Operator, nobody knows. However, the day that Charles came into the forest, so close to death that his soul was gaping wide open, he was sacrificed to the Operator and didn't die.
Throughout the years, the Operator basically lived in Charles' body as his vessel, which caused him a lot of physical and mental pain. However, the Operator become so dependent on his soul that if Charles ever died the Operator would die too.
The day that Charles attempted to hang himself, the Operator, in a final attempt to save the both of them, created a new body for the both of them to reside in, a horrid combination of both Charles' human traits and the Operator's non human traits.
That, is how the Operator met Charles.
(This kinda sounds like nonsense, so if you have any questions, then feel free to ask!)
