I’ll likely go with either of the Vogues. I really love the hood on the illustration for 7658–it’s so shapely and perfectly draped. I’ll have to compare the actual pattern pieces to see how different the hoods on the two Vogues actually are.
The 7658 is a late 60′s “slim-fitting” dress, which are usually a little snug across the butt for me, but the 8094 is from 1971 and is “loose-fitting” and A-line and far more likely to fit me through the hips without alteration.
However, the 8094 zips up the back, running into the hood:
Where the 7658 zips up the front. Otherwise, they have the same darts in the shoulders, but 7658 is much straighter through the waist and hip, making the 8094 a better choice, even given the generous stretch in the fabric.
I can probably combine the two and draft the skirt from 1971 onto the dress from the late 60′s.
y’all I got SO excited and like. fully lost my shit when Brian May came out to perform with mcr at the reading festival and I’m just watching a recording nine years after the fact I cannot IMAGINE what it must’ve been like to be in the audience like. I probably would’ve just died on the spot. watched the rest of the concert as a ghost
Coat accountability next step:
When you hang a hem, it usually needs to be longer at the back than front to take account of stoop and ensure it is parallel to the ground. This is also true of ie cloaks. I forgot this, and it’s bothering me very badly.
More importantly, the fabric of this cloak is just not sitting right or well, and im so displeased with it. What I want to do is re-do it from scratch, which would require another (small) bolt of fabric. Idk whether to push for this or not. My husband doesn’t care, he just wants to wear it. But I care a lot: I can see the flaw and how to resolve it, and will bug me forever.
The cape needs two adjustments: it needs to be longer at the back than at the front
And it needs to be more than a circle - really , right now, it’s more of an oval. But it needs to have the equivalent of ? Two circles within it, so that every time it falls it falls into a dramatic ripple. Because it’s just being pulled flat, and I really hate it.
What in thinking is, if I just get it assembled now so he’s happy, then in the new year if some money comes in I can unpick it and re-do the cloak to my satisfaction. But in truth, the time and money and motivation for that probably won’t be there, so as I’m working now, I’m very aware that this probably IS it, and I am not happy at all.
