They stare at the spot where the group disappeared, in a slight daze. You wave a hand in front of Seven's face and they don't react. They simply say, "You and Sam are friends, right?"

"We're in the same group in class. Why?"

"Cool, cool," they respond awkwardly. "Can you put in a good word for me?"

You frown. "What? Like for a job or...?"

Seven breaks out of their daze to cut their eyes to you, unimpressed. "No, you doofus. I mean a good word. You know..." Seven makes a sheepish face.

Oh.

[choice]: "Sam's taken," you lie.

It comes out before you can think. You don't know why you lie, but it's out there now. Taking it back would be...

Well, Seven would just find you odd at best and pester you at worst. You can just say you're not sure. So...why don't you?

"Really?" Seven asks, pouting. "I didn't know."

"Yeahhh..." You rub your arm awkwardly. "Guess you're out of luck."

Seven looks at you, an expression on their face you can't read. They stare at you in a way that makes you squirm. Not suspicious but not oblivious either. It's almost like they know you're lying but can't figure out why.

You don't even know why.

When you think Seven might confront you for being a dirty liar, they shrug and look away, a secret smile on their face.

"Eh. It's surprisingly not that disappointing." They go back to working, appearing as if they're laughing to themself. What's so funny, you wonder. Ugh. Why lie? "There's plenty of fish in the sea, right?"

"Riiiight."

misc info about them below:

they are not dating at this point in time, or even that close of friends

in the span of their HS years they shared a couple classes together, so they were aware of each other and were like. crushing on each other from afar teehehehehhe

mari was part of the student government and hero was part of the speech team, both were straight A students and popular/well-liked

they had like maybe 10 conversations total LOL. during this time hero was crushing Hard and mari was vaguely interested in him but due to their catholic upbringings, they couldn't really progress their friendship outside of classes (couldn't hang out alone outside of school, were technically a part of different social cliques, etc.)

he wanted to confess to her by graduation but chickened out, and thought he'd never see her again so he beat himself up about it the entire summer :')

but then they ended up in the same college!!! so that's when they became best of friends :)

Senshi is such a mysterious character. Like he's been living in the dungeon for who knows how long, trading and cleaning and co-existing with the ecosystem. He's probably old? I can't remember his age but considering he's a dwarf he's probably in his 80s? idk. He used his dragon culling steel to make a pot and goes around like a nutritional monster food truck and he's so kind???? Like where does this grandma urge to feed everyone come from lol.

I'm so curious as to how the dude was raised considering he gives so much importance to the natural balance of things and his interest in cooking itself. Was he like a previous palace chef or something or did his family own a dungeon restaurant? what makes you who you are senshiiiii
