Narrative Framing and Setting; Ray's Psyche (Ep 4)
I've seen a lot of discussion over this already, but the metaphor of the record store scene fits so well symbolically alongside the scene of Ray in the bath immediately before. It got me thinking about both the use of setting to portray Ray's loneliness and how it pairs with the subtle dialogue pulling him towards Sand.
Setting
To start with setting, there's a very notable contrast between the gloomy, cold hues of Ray's bathroom and the comparatively bright, welcoming atmosphere of the record store. I don't think it's any coincidence that the episode starts with Ray in the bathroom and ends with him there, indicating how--while he's clearly in a better mental headspace than he was two years ago--his pain is ceaseless.
Tumblr media
Interesting that out of every character we've seen so far, Ray has been solo in the ending credits twice. He also takes center stage with his narration this episode.
Bathtub
I don't think it's any coincidence that Ray is in a bathtub. It's confining, for one, a match for the plain hues of the bathroom and the absence of natural light. Despite the limiting aspect, there's also something to be said about the sense of security and comfort Ray could find in this kind of space. Someone like Ray who dreads loneliness might feel less lonely in a smaller area because he isn't forced to consider all of the unfilled space. Ray lives in a huge, luxurious house, but I think that's a curse as much as a blessing, because it reminds him of all the unoccupied space in his life.
In terms of bathing itself, the act is typically viewed symbolically as a way of "cleansing one's sins"; this could be Ray's subconscious effort to wipe his guilt away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another point of note--we see Mew and Sand both assume a place in the bathtub as well at various points. It's almost as if Mew and Sand's presence there directly thwarts all of that pain Ray has welling up inside. If the bathtub represents confinement and loneliness, then the addition of Mew and Sand threatens to change that.
At the end of Ep4, we see Ray with a drink in one hand and Mew's gift in the other. The gift itself is a reminder of what Ray doesn't have (Mew), but it's also ironic because of its own symbolism--sun rays. This is, of course, a callback to Ray's name, but it also contrasts with the setting once again and the grimness Ray exudes. Also interesting: we see a brief flashback to Mew giving Ray this gift, and it notably occurs outdoors in another bright space. Also, I don't think it's any coincidence that Top and Mew's shower scene occurs right before this, highlighting how they are together and Ray is alone.
Record Store
As viewers, the sight of the record store is even more bright and jarring coming right out of the oppressive, comparatively cramped space that is Ray's bathroom. It's open, but it's filled with warmth and light. And, importantly, Ray and Sand are never far apart from each other. They might be the only ones visible in the store, but the entire room feels occupied and livable. Compared to the single shot of Ray in the bathtub, this final scene sees them both standing side by side the entire time.
Tumblr media
The dialogue compliments this atmosphere as well, with Sand inviting Ray to try out new music, almost as if he is inviting Ray to give him a try (*cue Let's Try*). We know from the previous scene that Ray is at least beginning to see Sand as someone who could occupy Mew's role. But this setting with its inviting tone and promise of companionship is where that truth becomes even more prominent. It's especially important because we can infer that Ray is reflecting on this scene while contemplating his loneliness, making it all the more alluring to him.
The lyrics of the song are effective. There are nature references with the stars, moon, and sea. Tonally, the song is warm, yet another distinct contrast to the cold silence of Ray's empty house.
This line in particular--
There is only us and the cold wind
--strikes me, as it calls upon the existence of space--space that has been filled because the speaker and their lover are together.
~ X ~
I'd be super curious to know anyone else's thoughts on this--I was rewatching those last two scenes and couldn't help thinking about all the contrasts between them. There’s so many cool things going on in terms of setting, chronology, and colorization. I’m anxious to see how these elements could coincide with Ray’s developments in the future.

The Killing Vote (ep. 1-5 notes)
I’ve been enjoying this drama and I wanted to post some thoughts about it! This last week’s episode kept me on my toes! It’s a crime they only air a single episode per week, truly a crime aaaa
I don’t really know if people watching this drama are on tumblr but I’ll post here anyway!
Have a nice week!!!
(SPOILERS UP TO EPISODE 5!!!!)
I love Joohyun’s relationship with Kwon Seokju so far, the scene where she played for him Mozart’s Requiem (if I’m not mistaken) while we see her hanging Narae’s stuffed bunny was soothing! Seeing a different approach than Kim Muchan is nice!
KMC’s relationship with KSJ is really intriguing: we only get KMC’s (quite unreliable, that’s what makes it even more interesting!) pov in the first episodes with almost no dialogue between the two of them, and the recent episodes give us another side to their story through KSJ! I really wonder how their relationship got soured (especially from KMC) to the point KMC advises Joohyun not to get too close and get manipulated by KSJ: besides his own guilt for not being able to save Narae in time nor catch her murderer and the fact that the one he looked up to killed Byun Wootaek, something else must’ve happened for it to get THIS sour. What is going onnnnnnn? Or is it all an act? (and KMC/Park Haejin has some sad puppy eyes on par with Im Siwan's and Jung Haein's I can't haha) He affirms KSJ is arrogant and wouldn’t hesitate to take the law in his own hands if it can’t solve the problem while he himself pushes investigations with ways off the record to arrest culprits. He shows a bitter attitude in front of KSJ and Joohyun most of the time when he talks about him, but at the same time he also confided his guilt to Joohyun in private and seemed to regularly ask how KSJ was doing in prison during the past 8 years. I also get the feeling he was asking the warden if KSJ was regularly getting health checks by a doctor out of worry besides the investigation.
(This is some crack theory, but what if the one who murdered BWT was KMC and not KSJ? At this point, the narration is really unreliable so I wouldn't even be surprised!)
On that subject, I wonder if the drama will address KSJ’s health issue with his collapsed lung/asthma again ; his medical visit also seemed shot in order not to show the doctor’s silhouette at all, I wonder if this will hold any significance later on (it could be Jihoon’s grandmother, who knows!)? Not to mention Uhm Eungyeong, the culprit on ep2, was poisoned by Gaetal knowing she had asthma????
When the judge ruled Byun Wootaek’s acquittal (ep4), his gavel (a symbol of the justice) was shot struck right in front of KSJ’s silhouette, above his head, as if justice itself crushed KSJ. A similar symbolism is used in ep5’s Killing Vote:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The flashbacks are beautifully shot, ep4 was really moving. This scene’s lighting furthered the tragedy: it’s as though the orange light and the blood on Narae burn into KSJ and KMC’s profile as they find her, contrasting with Narae and the background’s cold tones:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also when KSJ recalls how he murdered BWT, the same orange hue colors the shots.
In ep5, we finally hear the voice of a man who is thought to be Gaetal, when he’s talking to KMC over the phone. The opening shows the cast’s profiles, but there’s this one character we haven’t seen yet:
Tumblr media
The man in question could totally be this character that wasn’t introduced yet! He’s probably the ‘executor’ of the Killing Vote, who was chatting with the teacher Lee Minsu.
I think Gaetal is definitely not the work of only one person: there’s at least the executor, tech-savvy people organizing the vote (the stream, the text messages, the hacking, …), the one on the stream (or maybe there’s more than one on the stream, a different one per case because the tone and attitude are never the same: agressive, vengeful, or bubbly, or caustic…) and perhaps someone in the police.
The teacher could be Fan no. 1 and/or Gaetal (if it’s not the same person/group): In ep4, we learn KSJ’s « Fan no. 1 » (1호팬, [ilho fan]) regularly sent him letters which would describe in details how the culprits subject to the Killing Vote would be ‘judged’. In ep3, the teacher talks to this ‘executor’ under the pseudo ‘justice15’: if 15 is read with the sino-korean numbers for 1 (일 [il]) and 5 (오 [oh]), the pronunciation would be close to ‘no. 1’, so this could not be a simple coincidence. Also ‘justice’ could be a taunt directed towards KMC’s vision of justice (he uses 정의 to describe his ideal of justice to KSJ) since he seems to deeply resent KMC.
Tumblr media
Gaetal uses KSJ and KMC’s words (‘devils deemed innocent’, ‘rational justice’) and interestingly, another character who talks about rationality is the assemblywoman (‘rationality, moral sense and mothers are stronger than the law’)!
Also, this dude is on some twisted christian trip: in ep4, we get a glimpse of the teacher’s tattoo, a cross on his chest that reads… ‘My daddy My hero’… which was what Narae used to say to her father (her hero, making her safe because he’s always there to protect her) and a part of her room’s decoration…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, if he killed Narae and his mother made Byun Wootaek the scapegoat for every crimes he committed this far, something must have gone wrong this time for him (and his mother) to deeply resent KMC to the point of wanting to kill him: they managed to pull the strings of the police and judicial system, but KMC must have discovered Lee Minsu was the real culprit (perhaps after KSJ killed BWT) and tried to kill him, which might’ve worsened his heart condition somehow.
(And it’s interesting how the second screenshot shows the teacher discarding his now bloodied watch in disgust after hearing KMC saying ‘I was willing to break rules to catch this heinous criminal as soon as possible’ mmmmh…)
Just as Captain Oh completely denied his liability in ep5, he must have felt wronged, Narae’s case being the only one that 'sullied' him (and this must be why he changed names, from Lee Yunseong to Lee Minsu). Associating the accusations he must’ve faced because of Narae’s case and KMC to the Passion of the Christ in a sick, twisted way, he must’ve thought this tattoo as his own crucifixion leading to his rebirth/his revenge through the Killing Vote?
If the teacher is the mastermind behind the Killing Vote, choosing culprits involved in CSE, SA and CA so far for the votes could be: 1 — to mask his true identity, seemingly siding with true justice while he’s one of those he judges. Also, choosing keywords associated to BOTH KSJ and KMC could be to mislead the police to believe Gaetal is close to KSJ and both KSJ and KMC to suspect one another 2 — a sick way to play with KMC’s concept of justice and using KSJ's trauma (and KMC) ; 3 — to hide the final objective of the Killing Vote: since he gives the public a pretty convincing and sophisticated fact-check all the circumstances surrounding the culprits’ crimes (Gaetal even said in one of their streams that a culprit wouldn’t be subject to the vote if their crimes weren’t true), this could lead the public to believe every case would be exposed truthfully. Which means one of these cases could be fabricated and nobody would realize it at first. If the teacher organized the Killing Vote to get back at KMC (this also seems to benefit his mother’s campaign), perhaps the last vote would accuse KMC or KSJ of Narae’s murder (since no culprit was found guilty) or another crime.
At his final trial, KSJ accused ’the police who released BWT because they cared more about their performance’. We now know the police commissionner, KMC’s superior and the assemblywoman were all linked somehow to what happened 8 years ago. We also got a flashback of Choi Jinsu, KMC’s colleague who was also the detective in charge in both Narae and KSJ’s case, who gave KMC the hint of Byun Wootaek being the culprit. KMC, unlike him, ‘isn’t interested in politics’… He also recognized the teacher as Lee Yunseong, potentially his name before murdering Narae. In ep5, Joohyun automatically ruled CJS out of the suspect list because he’s not close to KSJ… If the premise that Gaetal must be close to KSJ is wrong, then his involvement could be possible: perhaps he was ordered to tamper with the procedure and the pieces of evidence during the two cases? Also, I wonder if KMC’s reputation will get addressed, his superiors must’ve pressured him to follow unofficial orders or he got to discover these orders (eg. maybe in Narae’s case?) and ever since he’s the man to ask for to do the dirty work? Or KMC could have deliberately gained his ‘Wipeout’ reputation to get closer to the truth of what happened 8 years ago?
In the first episode, the video test Joohyun found on Joomin’s laptop is named ‘Lrae091515’: if the drama takes place in 2023, the tragic events surrounding KSJ, KMC and Joohyun ‘8 years ago’ would have taken place in 2015! Could this refer to the final day of KSJ’s trial (or the day Narae was killed)? The pseudo ‘justice15’ could also be a reference to that date.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the ‘Lrae’… It could be a wild WILD guess but ‘Lrae’ could be ‘irae’ as in Dies Irae/day of wrath (capital i looks like a lowercase L), which is a sequence in Requiem mass!
The video test was only found on Joomin’s laptop when all the Internet cafe computers got the virus: the one who hacked the computers likely targeted Joomin or her sister, a police officer deliberately.
The tag in Narae’s room (‘the 13th was wrong’):
Tumblr media
(It’s also a bit disturbing the tag was sprayed right on top of the ‘My daddy My hero’…)
— the narrative makes us think the tag refers to the 13th failed stab but it could be something else entirely (and perhaps KSJ is keeping this hint to himself?) — if the christian subtext truly exists in this drama (especially with the teacher’s tattoo), 13 is a number often linked in superstitions to the Cena, Judas (who betrayed Jesus, thought to have been the 13th guest to sit down to the Last Supper) and bad luck: whoever tagged this maybe wanted to signal KSJ the man he killed wasn’t the true culprit.
There is also a similar version in the norse mythology I found here:
« In his book “Extraordinary Origins of Everyday Things,” Charles Panati traces the concept of the cursed back to Norse mythology, when Loki, the god of mischief, gate-crashed a banquet in Valhalla, bringing the number of gods in attendance to 13. Deceived by Loki, the blind god Hodr was tricked into shooting his brother Balder, the god of light, joy and goodness, with a mistletoe-tipped arrow, killing him instantly. » And… we see the teacher communicating through the ‘Loki’ network (a wordplay for what would be Tor I guess, just as Apple would become a pear on laptops in media haha)!
(This is quite a reach, but for posterity in the opening, the 13th character shown is KMC, and in reverse order Jihoon haha)
The tag neither the news articles on Narae and KSJ’s cases weren’t in Gaetal’s video test:
Tumblr media
idk how to explain, but I get the feeling that person A (who leaked the video), B (the Gaetal we see on the video), C (the Gaetal who’s now organizing the Killing Vote) & D (who tagged the wall and pinned the news articles about KSJ and Narae) could be different characters with respective objectives too. The drama highlights a bit too much the premise that Gaetal is one single individual that’s close to KSJ haha At the very least, whoever leaked the video knew someone else, especially KMC, would eventually be able to recognize its contents (‘devils deemed innocent’, Narae’s room and her stuffed bunny). Also for posterity, KMC was the one who ostensibly redirected KSJ’s attention to the picture of the tag on the wall.
The assemblywoman and the teacher both have a habit to touch their ear sometimes (eg. when she talked to him about KMC ; when the teacher was watching the student during PE). Jihoon also did it right after the teacher left: was it to try to reproduce what he did to understand what he was watching or is he linked to them?
At the very least Jihoon seems to know some things about the Killing Vote, the teacher as well as KMC:
— In ep1, he bumped into Joohyun as he went to retrieve one of the cups the teacher seems to make a collection of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the cup, there’s an ’S’ graved on it, just as the telltale sign of the Killing Vote is the character ㅅ/siot (시옷), the first character of 사형 (death penalty/capital punishment).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
— He seems to know more than he lets on about the Killing Vote and keeps staring at the teacher (as though he knows his past crimes, eg. the closeups on the teacher grabbing/borderline groping Joomin’s shoulder, watching the students during PE etc.).
— He seemed startled when Joomin talked about ‘zombie PCs’.
— In ep3, Jihoon says: « I think [he] took it too far this time. » right after he saw KMC being alive and the man with the cap escape (which could totally be this character in the opening we’ve not yet seen). In Korean, the subject is often omitted and deduced from the context, it’s the case here: the drama keeps the ambiguity on whatever Jihoon meant here.
— Him being Narae’s friend would also make sense: as Narae was 8yo, she would be around Joomin and Jihoon’s age if she was still alive. There’s also Narae’s drawings that keep being showed, a boy/young man is always drawn on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a child’s representation of adults and children could be inaccurate (the height, physical appearance, etc.), the characters we see on her drawings could be alternatively KMC (who was close to KSJ and given KSJ’s answer, also doted on her daughter), KSJ, a boy Narae used to play with (it could be Jihoon), the teacher or BWT, the son of the driver and the housekeeper who were also close to Narae and KSJ.
The assemblywoman asked her assistant to observe her son closely: I guess that refers to his health but it’s also to make sure he doesn’t commit crimes anymore. She also said to her son he definitely knows she’s ready to do anything to make Gaetal join her so that her campaign is successful: this + joking on TV how a mother is above the law suggest she definitely pulled strings to save their reputation (eg. using BWT as a convenient scapegoat ; tampering with the trials ; changing his son’s name etc.).
Joohyun thinks Gaetal acts like a hacker. That would also make Jodan (in ep5, he revealed he was arrested for hacking), Jihoon, the teacher and Joohyun herself suspects!
KSJ’s interest in Joohyun is curious: he even looked into her background once he met her & seems to focus on her habit to scratch her scar ; KMC’s comment on how unusual KSJ’s behavior was (specifically requesting Joohyun to communicate with ; negotiating his pardon — while he didn’t regret what he did at all) makes me think that: — in the letters or in some other way, Gaetal must’ve instructed him to obtain a pardon (perhaps they even told him to get rid of the letters to make him indispensable to the police) — Gaetal must’ve told him he would seek the truth to what happened to Narae: for someone who didn’t regret avenging her daughter, revealing Byun Wootaek was a scapegoat and the true culprit is roaming free out there would be plenty enough drive for him to find a way to get out of prison — whoever they are, Gaetal must’ve an ulterior motive to involve Joohyun, KSJ and KMC together
The first episode showed similar shots of KSJ and KMC (same backlighting, same low-angle shot, KSJ avenging his daughter and KMC lashing out on Bae Gicheol to stop him from abusing his wife):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder if we’ll get to see KMC’s relationship with the woman on his photo (likely his mother), this is probably the only shot we get of him smiling not out of spite ;;
Tumblr media
For Mu in Muchan, one of the hanja that can be given as a name is 橅, which means law, and it’s ironic given how the law failed him and KSJ ; sometimes characters are given names that will hold meaning in their development eg. Donghoon & Jian in My Mister ; Dongsik and Juwon in Beyond Evil.
For Ju in Seokju, there is 澍, which means timely/long-awaited rain ; rain has marked 2 important events in KSJ’s life: when he discovered his daughter’s body and when he was arrested by KMC after murdering Byun Wootaek ; there’s also 炷 which means wick, aligning with the OST lyrics (a fire burning in one’s eyes)

Guys I’m about to finally finish I’m In The Band after 13 fucking years 😭
I missed the finale when it premiered and Disney erased the show from existence almost immediately after so I haven’t been able to find it anywhere (and I’m not paying for it on iTunes).
But then I accidentally stumbled across a site that had the entire show for free so I’ve been rewatching it slowly over the last 2 weeks and I’m finally at the finale I’m gonna cry I’ve spent the majority of my life (I’m 25) trying to find this show to finish it and now I’m finally able to, though I am lowkey sad I’m finally finishing it too.
But since it got canceled abruptly the finale isn’t technically the finale since it doesn’t wrap anything up and the show itself sort of existed in a vacuum (like SpongeBob) where you could watch it in any order (barring the pilot) and you wouldn’t be lost or lose any story arcs (although I guess it’s a little more episodic in s2 since they get the record deal in ep4 but it’s not that bad) so I can just put on an older episode and it’s like nothing happened 😂
I know like literally no one on here even knows what I’m talking about or what the fuck this show is but just know I am still obsessed with it and have been since 2009 and I’m sure but I needed to get this out bc no one I actually know irl cares but at least on here I can pretend 😂
But also like if there is actually someone here who knows about this show/likes this show and wants to talk about it my dms and inbox are wide open plz talk to me about it idc I am here I am ready I am willing 👍

omg you pointing out that Lestat didn't think to buy Claudia a car 😦 he's thinking "she's a child, a 30 year old child and we will forever have to take care of her 😒" (he had no problems terrorizing his child husband into marrying him on those church steps) but it's so restrictive. he really said you aren't going anywhere independently!!
meanwhile he doesn't have to worry about Louis driving off. reliable Louis who still stays in NOLA even tho there is barely anything left for him there
likethemodel & slaygentford talked about it first :3 i just extrapolated further. i think something to be mindful of also is the intentions lestat had in turning louis w/ vs. where he turned/met claudia. lestat turned a grown 30 something year old louis in pursuit of an eternal companion, whereas w/ claudia, she was then 14 & she was not turned bc lestat wanted a companion, but bc louis wanted a daughter & lestat realized that turning claudia would keep louis. he had no desire for another companion, least of all an eternal child before this moment the way louis did. there will always be a dissonance between physical appearance v. their actual age, but with claudia this dissonance is even more prominent bc she was a teenage girl, and not an adult the way lestat, louis, armand & all the other vampires we will most likely see in the show were when turned. it do beg the question of how claudia travelled in her times away from lestatxlouis. catching greyhounds, fonky ass trains.. clearly she didnt get that far - bruce raped her in tennessee & thats when she decided to come back. also where & who could louis even go to at this time? he doesnt have friends, family, anywhere or anyone in his life outside of lestat & claudia at this point. ep6 wise, the lovebombing, lestat getting louis a car, rare gifts, the record, its clear this is a redo of the ‘courtship’, an attempt of lestat to get back in louis’s graces& a provocation. claudia is getting in his way of doing that, and thats why he doesnt even bother giving her gifts outside of annie’s ring , a poor imitation of pops emerald necklace she got in ep4. lestat wants to push claudia back into the child she once was, but claudia fights back& asserts her own sense of maturity in attire, in setting the terms of the game + quitting even when she ‘won’, and saying theyre siblings now, no longer calling lestat unc or louis dad.

the deen higurashi animes are not that bad people just watched them when they were 11, heard people say they were bad, then read the vns much later and went "well its not exactly 1:1 so it really is bad"
you really have to appreciate the work chiaki kon did to make the original higurashi anime coherent in 26 episodes. sure its not perfect, but compared to most vn adaptations, are you kidding? deen higurashi is perfectly watchable. it's no clannad but i consider it a successful vn anime adaptation that stands in a field of failed vn anime adaptations. it is great as long as you stop after finishing kai and do not touch anything that came after it
also this is only tangentially related but since i see people sometimes lying that ryukishi may not approve of this, or especially of the umineko anime. not true! the umineko anime is a different matter because the production of that anime was a mess, the story was releasing AS THE ANIME WAS AIRING, and ep4 was horribly adapted by virtue of it literally COMING OUT LITERALLY AS THE ANIME WAS AIRING. ngl though, as much of a mess it was, it was one of the first anime i genuinely followed from the first episode to the last as it was airing. and what an anime it was. absolute trainwreck, everyone was happy that EP3 was actually adapted pretty well after how goofy EP1 was and okay but derpy EP2 got sometimes, then came EP4 and uh. haha.
but i digress... my point with this^ is that a lot of people have delusions of grandeur of original authors hating an anime adaptation just to justify their own hatred of it. i see it all the time, especially with old adaptations of shounen manga superseded by either remakes or sequels (rare, but i'm thinking of bleach here). people have this long standing urban myth that togashi HATES hunter x hunter 99, but the only recorded opinion we've ever gotten of it is that his assistants would watch it while he worked away on the manga itself, so he didn't have an opinion on it. a lack of an opinion does not signify an opinion. if anything, there are more clues pointing to togashi being involved in the anime in at least some capacity— namely the bonus stage arc, which has foreshadowing for things that hadn't even happened in the manga yet at the time, and was allegedly based on scrapped drafts that togashi had.
really, lately "mangaka is involved with every step of the adaptation" has become synonymous with quality, but manga artists are manga artists. not all of them know what decision is right for the animated medium. i have yet to see an anime turn out especially good because the studio kept the mangaka in the room making whatever level of decision they can claim happened. (to be honest, i kind of doubt it anyway, but i don't care.) it's dumb, but i miss the era when adaptations were actually about adapting to a new medium and having *shudders* oh noooo spooooky filler to help the story flow better, or hell just diving deeper into certain scenes and expanding on them, rather than having a big jack off contest about who can draw the closest to the manga without any deviation so a bunch of salivating geeks on twitter would tweet at any public figure involved in the anime with either praise or insults both 100% lacking in any critical merit
at least.... can we stop animating at 300 gigasharts per second to appeal to twitter shounen meatheads so we can get anime longer than 13 episodes again. im fucking sick

oh now that dragula s5 is over i can do my writeup on that too. spoilers for the whole season (and probably show) below the cut
i guess i'll kinda go episode by episode for this.
ep 1: fun way to start off, love when they make them walk around in the woods n shit in full drag. everyone meeting for the first time was fun as well big personalities right off the bat. correct winner and correct bottom 2. i loved the extermination challenge on this one, hardcore as fuck.
ep 2: i will say i am not a fan of contestants (of any show) returning for no real reason. however i very much enjoyed jay kay on the show so i can't say i'm too mad about it. VERY correct winner, throb nailed that floorshow. i do not remember if cynthia deserved bottom2 off the top of my head but correct extermination. unfortunate because onyx is a cool performer just a little too... shy/quiet/etc for the show. there is no amount of money you could have paid me to do this extermination i do NOT do bugs </3 but i do love a gross one.
ep3: this was the ghost episode which was fun. by this point this season had already surpassed s4 for me. loved jay kay's bellhop look, deserved the win especially after the rough start. i remember throb doing really well this one too. as for the bottom 3 this ep. clearly there is something about orkgotik's drag that i just do not get. the entire time i thought their looks were messy and i didn't get the concepts but they were PRAISED by the judges (up until here) for it all. like ep1 when they were called to stay on stage i legit thought they were bottom 3 not top 3. obviously this is just a me thing bc other people online seem to really like them too. i forgot about satanna so i'm assuming her going home here was right. another good extermination with the rats but fuck that looked miserable. i would do it but i would not be happy about it LOL
ep4: ok it seems like the fanbase doesn't care for monsters of rock but i LOVE monsters of rock, and having this broken up into 2 episodes felt like a bonus for me. fantasia absolutely deserved the win here, she really is an excellent performer. i know a lot of ppl thought the whole time she wasn't giving monster (myself included at a few points) but you cannot deny her stage presence at all. jarvis and jay kay definitely did deserve bottom 2 and jarvis did lose that lipsync which was unfortunate but jay really beat his ass lol. jarvis's death scene may also have been one of the best in the show so far.
ep5: part 2 of monsters of rock. ok so i enjoyed this half less LMAO i do not care about songwriting on the show/rpdr, most of the time its mid at best; but i do get that its also how a lot of artists make money. but then again not every drag performer should be a recording artist lol. ANYWAY on to the actual floorshow. orkgotik's band NAILED it and they def deserved the win. fantasia's band was for the most part pretty good (or at least fantasia herself was good LOL) but man... you could tell niohuru had never performed like that before. i also forgot anna was on this season and it was way past her time to go. i like the tattoo exterminations, but it is pretty clear they use those to get rid of whichever contestant they want to get rid of. i think anna held her own in this extermination comparatively speaking between the two tattoo designs. i liked the tattoo challenge from s3 the best where they got to pick a tattoo for the other competitor.
ep6: i BARELY remember this episode oop. had to go to the wiki to get the synopsis of what happened. i thought it was strange the boulets said the floorshows weren't "what they were expecting". ok if everyone "missed the mark" then clearly your instructions weren't good enough. i remember the looks being cool but the actual "selling" being kind of.. forced? idk. not as much fun as i was hoping it would have been. i do not remember anyones looks this episode, but i do remember blackberri's win being deserved. i do not remember if fantasia deserved bottom but jay kay definitely did, and he gave up in the extermination! so yeah! its just pregnancy simulators that shouldn't be that difficult especially when you have contestants bungee jumping and eating maggots.
ep7: oooohhhhhh mygod. this was a great episode. i know they also said the runways "weren't what they were expecting" again but like i said before that's on them. i thought these runways were cool as fuck. blackberri and throb had really cool looks but hooolllyyyyyy shit niohuru. niohuru blew me the fuck away with that floorshow. i literally sat there eyes locked on the screen jaw open. she deserved to win the season on that alone. holy fuck. cynthia and orkgotik were definitely deserving of bottom 2 but man i loved cynthia she was so much fun even if her runways weren't the best. personally would have sent orkgotik home here but like i said i'm clearly missing something about their drag that everyone else loves.
ep8: this one i didn't care for but it certainly wasn't a bad episode. i think i'm just unfamiliar with the floorshow theme and that's probably why it didn't impact me the same. again i would not have given orkgotik the win here, i would have given it to throb. the extermination challenge for this one was fun i like it when they let them straight up fight. this was unfortunately fantasia's time, but i think she did better than a lot of people expected, i think she showed she has the versatility to be any kind of performer.
ep9: last supper, which is always a good time. loved whoever it was pulling a vape out in the middle of the episode fgfhjdsk i do not care for on-screen relationships but i know a lot of people wanted a clearer answer wrt niohuru/orkgotik.
ep10: ok so finale. i have to say i did NOT like final 4 last season and i did NOT like it this season. there is no reason to have 4 out of your 11 contestants as potential winners. i would have cut orkgotik or blackberri (but really orkgotik) and made it a final 3. i also hate that they went in a different order (filth/horror/glamor as opposed to glamor/filth/horror) bc seasons 1-3 went in the same order. i also have to say i wasn't particularly blown away by anyone's finale looks. i thought throb did a good job overall, if we were picking a winner based off the final floorshow alone it would have been throb. i thought niohuru's and blackberri's looks were all around kinda mid, niohuru's takeout look was very good though. i actually liked orkgotik's horror look for this one! only took me to the finale to get on board with them then the boulets immediately turn around and say they didn't like that one dfgfhjdksa either way, niohuru was the clear winner of the season and she definitely earned it. its also nice to have a non-american, asian trans woman in the winner's circle.
overall, i would rank the seasons 2 > 3 > 5 > titans > 1 >>>>> 4 at this point in time (i had a lot of issues with season 4) but its also been a minute since i've watched season 1. not ranking these on performers but in terms of how the season was produced. i think they've improved a LOT since season 4/titans alone, let alone season 1, but i think there's still some room for improvement. and now i'm getting bored writing this so i'm ending it here lol

As much as I want to watch the other 3 seasons of Tokyo ghoul (and I've tried before) I can't cause my fangirl brain can't stop being irritated asf about how little we see Juuzou Suzuya on screen... And I bet the manga is even more juuzou-less... Not that I could know for sure since I don't have the money to buy the manga.... About the Boueibu iceberg
@delphoxqueen asked me to explain about my list for the iceberg so here it is. I might update this from time to time with links and stuff if I stumble across the original posts. This is all from what I know so feel free to add new info. Also, spoiler warning for RobiHachi and the Boueibu manga and novels. (This is like a masterpost it’s very long)
1. There’s a theory in tumblr about which decade the series is set in, using data like the friday the 13th calendar in s2 ep11. In HK we got a second number for when the next monthly Pretty Boy Contest was happening and using the one from Love it was theorized that around a decade had passed since then, which ended up being true.
2. The stage play had a few original songs and characters exclusive to it so unless you watched the full performance, you probably weren’t able to witness all of them. One of the characters is called “Robato Deniro”, as romanized in the stage play booklet I own.
3. The nurse and the cafeteria staff from the s1 mobile game appear in the background in around the first half of s2 ep3.
4. S2 had an unfinished manga that was only available online and was never released on physical format; it was centered around the defense club and sometimes the conquest club and Beppu brothers. All that’s left from what I know are the scans linked on magicalgirlsandcerulean’s blog.
5. This isn’t that obscure because it’s talked about in the anime, but I’m mentioning it because I think many people dropped it before the ova, where right at the beginning it is revealed that the alien that resucitated Mr. Tawarayama twice was, as described by Io, a “mulberry-colored naked mole rat-looking thing”, and was nicknamed “Moley-san” by Yumoto. At least in the anime, we had never heard before of who this was and it never appeared on screen nor was mentioned again.
6. In HK ep8, Karurusu promises the knights to grant a wish if they show him how earthlings spend summer. Kyoutarou reveals at the end of the episode that he wished that summer lasted one more day so he could spend it doing nothing, which prompts Ichiro to theorize that it’s the 32nd of august, and the next day is the second 1st of september.
7. The stage play was was held from march 10th to 13rd, of which the latter is Ryuu’s birthday. There’s an additional recording of a small celebration with cake focused on Ryuu and Io.
8. Atsushi mentions his older sister in the flashback at the beginning of s1 ep4, but she never appears or is mentioned again.
9. There’s a few posts on tumblr theorizing about what happened to the Hakone parents since Yumoto only says in s2 ep3 that according to Gora, “they are busy with their hot springs tour”. En mentions that it’s a bit suspicious, but it’s all the information we have from the anime. Posts talk about the parents perhaps passing away from an accident or an illness, thus the reason why Gora was so worried about Yumoto’s cold in s1 ep10, but from another post I think it’s implied in the second novel that they actually left their home when Yumoto was still a toddler.
10. It’s no secret that the surnames of the characters are all real onsens in Japan that even the seiyuus have visited, but apparently the Arima onsen has two different kinds of water, “kinsen (gold hot spring)” and “ginsen (silver hot spring)”, with different properties each, and the Kusatsu onsen water also has certain properties, both that were used to build the characters. Additionally, Ryuu’s favorite food are Sato Nishiki cherries, which are grown in the same prefecture, Yamagata, as his onsen, Zaou.
11. The press club lose relevance after s1, with only Kinosaki and Tazawa reappearing briefly in s2 ep2 to interview the Beppu twins after they arrive at the school. Tazawa doesn’t even have lines. Hireashi is mentioned by Zundar in ep11.
12. What the heck
Tumblr media Tumblr media
13. Exclusively in the manga we see that Arima met Kinshiro and Atsushi when they were little and they were good friends, but when they met again as adults, Kinshiro seemingly didn’t remember Arima. Atsushi, however, stated that Kinshiro’s talent is remembering people’s faces and names, so Arima wonders if he’s just trying to distance himself from him. He also explains to Akoya that he follows Kinshiro and obeys him because as a child, he was fascinated by his radiant smile. This is never talked about in the anime.
14. Like the previous point, the anime never shows Akoya being bullied, at most just a slight dislike of his full name, but the manga shows that he was made fun of for it and how he actually hates his surname, to the point of introducing himself formally to the president and vicepresident of the student council as “Holy Angel Akoya”.
15, 16, 17, 19. Batonama lives were the livestreams done through the franchise by the defense club seiyuus on youtube and niconico. They’re all on youtube, without any kind of translation.
Love-ko is a girl with a shell bikini drawn on a piece of cardboard that was used as a girlfriend in the Batonama Love! lives, acted by the seiyuus themselves.
RobiHachi has one episode full of official Boueibu artwork and a parody of the series too, a Love-ko doll appears, and Wombat appears as well, named “The Don”. It received an english dub, so for a bit, people were excited that Wombat was going to speak in english too. Also, various mechas appear in both Boueibu and RobiHachi.
18. The director of Fairy Ranmaru (Masakazu Hishida if I’m not wrong) revealed in an interview that he was inspired by Boueibu and aimed to make a show like that.
20, 21. The website super-groupies.com has results for defense and conquest club lingerie sets, dc and VEPPer tote bags, the Beppus’ scarf rings, dc bath sets and the pumps magicalgirlsandcerulean mentioned. I’ve found the s1 Loveracelets and Caerula Adamas’ ring on different sites, the True Loveracelets on TheChara’s twitter and the Happybraces (apparently called “Hapibure”) on broccoli.co.jp but I’m not sure where exactly they were all announced and sold, so I’ll just drop that.
22, 33. Boueibu was originally pretty much a copy of Sailor Moon, I think they were all going to be called “Lackluster Moon” and that stuff and be literally Sailor Moon genderbent. They were all different from color palettes to physical features (except Yumoto’s), and Ryuu was a shota, even smaller than Yumoto. Their names were also very reminiscent of the five Sailor Senshis’. Even if they made it more original, the show is still clearly inspired by Sailor Moon (just look at Caerula Adamas lol) and Pretty Cure. It has also referenced, very blatantly, animes like Doraemon, Detective Conan, Aikatsu and even Vocaloid, when Kyoutarou tries to guess what Karurusu is saying with ““Just Google It, Asshole”?” in ep1.
23. Wombat’s real name and the name of his planet sound like gibberish to the earthlings and ends up being named after the Earth animal, but Zundar, Dadacha, Karurusu and Furanui all have original names. And I think Hireashi means “goldfish”?
24. If you google “zundar technology”, it’s actually a company in Shanghai, China. Aren’t Wombat and Zundar always talking about “advanced alien technology”?
25. Zundar and Dadacha are siblings, so are Karurusu and Furanui, and so are their father King Kamopapa and their uncle minister Wao, but neither are the same species and, except the first two, not even the same color. But they are supposedly related because they share birthmarks or something like that...
26. Everyone who’s in this fandom knows about the pixel blur and voice pitch censor from s1, but I’ve added it anyway because it’s so rare for mahou shoujo and shounen animes to explain why the heroes aren’t recognized when transformed.
27. A good while of s2 ep11 is spent discussing Zundar’s ex-wife and his problems to give child support. Naturally, he gets mad at this.
28. “Money doesn’t betray” (s1 ep6) and “The despair hidden behind your smile that comes from not being understood” (s3 ep11) are sentences that came out of nowhere and implied that the people they were said by (Io) or about (Taiju) respectively had some kind of angst going on but were never explained at all. They’re famous for just that.
29. The Beppu twins’ house in Andromeda shown in flashbacks had strange green circles that apparently are from another anime I don’t know but honestly I didn’t get it very well... It was revealed on a tweet from Takamatsu.
30. Alien language mostly appeared in s2 due to the many flashbacks of Aki and Haru in Andromeda, but in Boueibu s1, it appears on the Zundar Needle before it is shot on the human. It appears a lot through RobiHachi as well, due to being a story about travelling through space. There might be an alphabetical chart somewhere, but I can’t assure it exists, I might even have dreamed it.
31. Hikaru Midorikawa as the melon monster, Kousuke Toriumi as the bishounen monster, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as the kotatsu and panda monsters and Takuya Eguchi as the remote controller monster in s1 and 2, before going on to voice the main cast in HK. Keisuke Koumoto voiced Hatchi Kita in RobiHachi as well as Akihiko in Boueibu, and the characters look similar.
A new addition is that so far Boueibu is the only anime I’ve seen where children weren’t voiced by female seiyuus, but by actual children. Personally, it’s charming and makes it so much more realistic, specifically since no women appear in the franchise at all either (not counting Protag-chan in the game).
32. Speaking of seiyuus, Can I Destroy The Earth? had a dub shown in ep11/12 (?) that made Gora the villain that wanted Earth to stay the same and not progress, against the monsters that supposedly wanted to bring good things to earthlings. Aki and Haru quickly dismissed this dub as fake. (I made a mistake in the title in the previous post btw)
34. As seen in the glossary in the Boueibu Mook (I think, but might not be the mook), Caerula Adamas’ speeches are based on an old japanese detergent commercial that went “Gold, silver, pearl, gift”.
35. In the manga there’s a short parody of the first chapter of Sailor Moon with “Pretty Boy Guardian Gakuran Akoya”. The conquest club manga was released before the anime, so I remember reading somewhere that a fake website appeared for the Gakuran Akoya manga, before turning into the conquest club manga website in the day of its release.
36. Cgi was used a few times in the anime: s2 ep10 for a short sequence of the defense club on a rollercoaster and the carousel monster, ep11 for a cenital shot of the Battle Lovers singing, and HK ep12 for the Honyalaland soldiers and the Wao mecha.
37. The toothbrush incident in s1 ep7. (It’s definitely well-known but it’s so weird lol)
38. “We hope we can see each other again someday!” Something along those lines was the last text to appear in the last episode of HK, implying a s2. We all know how that went.

Katara's Grief
(This is my first attempt at a meta post and I know that this has probably been already done but I just needed to get it off my chest and go on a little rant and it kinda got long so bear with me.)
A lot of the hate on Katara stems from the fact that she keeps on mentioning her mother's death at every chance she gets and invalidates other people's pain to assert that her suffering is the worst of the lot.
Tumblr media
And even though everybody is entitled to their own opinions, I'm gonna point out why I think the aforesaid claims are not exactly correct.
First we'll take a look at; Katara's Backstory:
We know that Kya is killed in a fire nation raid and that Katara had been the last person to see her alive before she leaves the tent on her mother's insistence. Only to come back a few moments later and find her dead body. This, in itself is a traumatising event.
So yes, her mother died. Other people in the story go through far worse. You're not wrong when you say that.
But what is more important in Katara's story is the aftermath of her mother's death.
As Sokka says while talking to Toph in "The Runaway" in B3 Ep7:
Sokka: When our mom died, that was the hardest time in my life. Our family was a mess, but Katara? She had so much strength. She stepped up and took on so much responsibility. She helped fill the void that was left by our mom.
As an eight year old, she had to force herself to grow up to step into her mother's shoes and raise herself and her elder brother and simultaneously look after the entire village after her father left to fight in the war. She had to do all of it by herself.
In face of all her responsibilities, she never really had the chance to simply be a grieving child lamenting the loss of her mother. She habituated herself to caring more about others than herself (We see this trait in the entire series as she acts as the stand-in mom friend for the entire Gaang with an exception of Suki and Zuko). She ended up bottling her feelings of grief, resentment, guilt and rage deep within herself.
She had to give up an extensive part of her childhood where most children focus on figuring themselves out, to become a mature and responsible person who was working as the immovable pillar holding up the family and even the whole village not much later.
She put up a strong front to help others and pretended to be fine even though she was hurting inside the whole time.
She could never find any closure from the situation. She never got over it.
Moving on to the criticisms:
1. Katara keeps on mentioning her mother like a broken record:
Tumblr media
Here are the number of times Katara mentions her mother's death (not sure if that's all of it, lmk if there are any others):
1. In her first scene with Sokka
Katara: Ever since mom died, I've been doing all the work around camp while you've been off playing soldier!
2. A short while after she meets Aang
Katara: Well, I just want you to be prepared for what you might see. The Fire Nation is ruthless. They killed my mother, and they could have done the same to your people.
3. A short while after she meets Haru
Katara: I lost my mother in a Fire Nation raid. This necklace is all I have left of her.
4. A short while after she meets Jet
Katara: Sokka and I lost our mother to the Fire Nation.
5. In the swamp after she sees a vision of her mother
Katara: I thought I saw Mom.
6. In the Crystal Catacombs with Zuko
Katara: I don't? How dare you! You have no idea what this war has put me through! Me personally! The Fire Nation took my mother away from me.
7. A short while after she meets Hama
Katara: We completely understand. We lost our mother in a raid.
8. Repeated mentions in The Southern Raiders episode
(Most of the episode basically)
The first mention with Sokka is in the middle of a siblings' spat where she tells off Sokka for trying to act as if he were superior when it was obvious that in the face of the gaping hole that was left by Kya's sudden death, Katara had shouldered much more responsibility.
When she tells it to Aang, she uses it as a proof that the Fire Nation is capable of immense cruelty and destruction.
The Gaang travel all around the world and meet different people affected by the war in different ways. So when Haru, Jet and Hama narrate their own stories, Katara sympathises with them and talks about Kya's death in lieu of "I understand, the Fire Nation hurt me too."
After they got separated, Aang, Sokka and Katara each had their visions and after they get back together, they all mention their visions and so does Katara.
When left alone in catacombs with Zuko, whom she considered as the face of the Fire Nation— the same Fire Nation that had her mother killed and forced her father to leave to fight in the war, she has a meltdown where she rightfully accuses him of all the bad things he's done and then breaks down while talking about how the war has cost her i.e., by causing her mother's death.
The Southern Raiders is the episode where Katara hunts down the man responsible for her mother's death. If you think mentioning Kya repeatedly in this episode is uncalled for, then I don't know what to tell you.
In all the incidents mentioned above, Katara mentioning her mother's death is a very natural occurrence is the respective conversations. She mostly talks about Kya's death to either extend her sympathy or to use it as an example of the ruthlessness of the Fire Nation.
Another fact to be noted is that 70% of the Gaang's storyline is followed via Katara from a narrative point of view. Plus, being the mom-friend, she acts as the spokesperson. Considering that Kya's death is a major event that played a huge role in shaping Katara's life and is also the source of her severe, unresolved trauma, which acts as the driving force of her story, it is only natural that she brings up this topic whenever she is engaging in a deeper conversation.
It is us as the viewers who have seen her from the start and already know about her mother's death and we see her talking to multiple people about it. Which is why it might come across as repetitive to some people.
While, Kya's death is not necessary information that everyone needs to know, Katara talking about it never comes across as a forced or unnatural.
2. Katara invalidates others' pain because she thinks she has suffered the most:
Tumblr media
First of all, if anything, Katara is the most empathetic person of them all. As the mom-friend of the group, not only is she their constant moral support, she also helps them untangle and sort out their own feelings. She is also able to tap into issues that aren't said out loud.
Instances of Katara helping and supporting Aang, emotionally are uncountable.
She is the first one to notice Sokka's sour mood in B3 Ep4 "Sokka's Master". And even though his insecurities seem baseless, she validates him (by saying "I'm sorry you're feeling so down" instead of something like "That's a dumb thing to say") and knows exactly what to do to cheer him up.
In B3 Ep7 "The Runaway" she has the insight to understand that Toph's unruly behaviour is caused by the mixed feelings she has about her parents even though Toph's herself never talked about it.
She even reaches out to Zuko in B2 Ep19 "Crossroads of Destiny" even though she used to think of him as the face of the enemy.
But then there's The Southern Raiders.
Ah yes, that episode where Katara is extremely OOC and a total b*tch.
Agreed that she said some things that she definitely shouldn't have said. But like, she's just 14?? And has been hurting on the inside since she was 8?? And pretended to be fine just for the sake of other people?? Like, there's a limit to how much she can have her shit under control?? And she did a real good job of Sokka's upbringing and taking care of the village and taking care of Gaang on her own?? Some people out there are really willing to forget everything she has ever done just because she was mean for 5 minutes?? A traumatised 14 yo shouldn't be villianised and called toxic because she got mad and lashed out at people that one time??
But here's my take on the scene anyway:
When Aang gets to know that she's going to go face her mother's killer:
Aang: Um ... and what exactly do you think this will accomplish?
Katara: I knew you wouldn't understand.
Aang is a non-confrontational person who prefers running away from difficult situations as opposed to Katara who firmly stands her ground and is never afraid of confrontations. Katara had approached Aang only hoping that he would understand. But going by his dismissal, he obviously doesn't understand the burning need that she has to confront the man who had single-handedly destroyed her childhood. (Most people infer that what Katara means is that she thinks that Aang doesn't understand the pain of losing people. And so does Aang, I guess)
But things start getting even more tricky when:
Aang: Katara, you sound like Jet.
In all honesty, this is probably the most insensitive thing that she could've heard from anyone right then, let alone one of her closest friends. Hearing herself being compared to a homicidal maniac just because she wants to avenge her mother's killer. (No, I'm not justifying murder but there's a clear difference between homicide and avenging someone's death. And Aang may not be my favourite character but I do love him but this wasn't really a good thing to say either. And he wasn't even mentally distressed in the very least to be completely lacking tact or a filter.)
And then the situation escalates:
Sokka: Katara, she was my mother, too, but I think Aang might be right.
Katara: Then you didn't love her the way I did!
After 6 long years of Katara bottling in her dark feelings and letting them fester inside herself, she is finally letting them out and the first things she faces in a span of few minutes are outright rejection, invalidation of her feelings, comparison to a homicidal maniac and nothing akin to the unconditional support that she has provided to everybody. Her own brother tells her that he is siding with the boy who just compared her to a homicidal maniac.
Yes, accusing your own brother of not loving your mother enough is a very cruel thing to do. But both Sokka and Katara know that she doesn't entirely mean it.
But also, there is one very important factor in here:
In B3 Ep7 "The Runaway", Sokka says to Toph:
Sokka: I'm gonna tell you something crazy. I never told anyone this before, but honestly? I'm not sure I can remember what my mother looked like. It really seems like my whole life, Katara's been the one looking out for me. She's always been the one that's there. And now, when I try to remember my mom, Katara's is the only face I can picture.
Katara overhears this conversation just as Sokka had meant her to.
This dialogue lets us know that Sokka's coping mechanism has made him suppress all memories of Kya and replace them with memories of Katara in order to attain a semblance of normalcy.
Both Katara and Sokka had very different ways of coping with Kya's death. Katara pressed down her feelings and tried her best to pretend to ignore them while Sokka partially succeeded in forgetting her.
When Katara first hears these words she is shown to be crying. But if she were to remember these very words while she was justifying herself infront of her own brother and a close friend for wanting to avenge her mother, it would've had a negative impact on her.
In her rage, she would've thought: "Of course he doesn't want to avenge mom. Because he doesn't think it's worth it and that's because he doesn't even remember enough of her to be mad about her death."
And for someone who has spent each day of the last 6 years trying to fill in the shoes of her mother and experiencing her absence everyday, the idea of forgetting her mother is a ridiculous concept to her.
Her thoughts would have quickly derailed to: "He didn't love her enough to remember her."
In light of these thoughts, saying "Then you didn't love her the way I did" doesn't feel out of the blue.
No, I am definitely not justifying what she said, I'm just laying out a possible explanation to why she said what she said.
Yes, she should've apologized to Sokka for this and I think that they definitely should've had a long conversation about their mother's death and how it affected them. Between Katara supressing her feelings and Sokka supressing his memories, i don't think they ever had this conversation.
But sadly we are given neither of these scenes.
Tl;dr: Everytime Katara mentions her mother, it's with good reason and I don't think it's fair to call a character toxic when they lack a mind to mouth filter for 5 minutes and say some mean things. And considering all that Katara has done for everybody, it isn't fair at all.
Peace out!

Making peace with TPN S02E04 (anime-only)
Post summary: my problems with the episode, possible explanations for why and how to minimize the problems. also some speculation.
The thoughts are mostly based on the anime in a bubble, aside from the segments where I mention otherwise.
.
#0 - My mixed feelings about staying anime-only
This is strange, because... I’m not really hype for next week? I want more, but not in the same excited way I did before. Because I simply don’t know what to expect anymore.
I want to stick as an anime-only so I can deliver stand-alone thoughts as this... clunky and stumbling adaptation makes its way towards the finish line (obviously it won’t be done this season but, yeah ---- i mean, hopefully not, who knows what they’ll do at this point).
But another part of me is just... more excited to read the manga to see what it is like and what the differences are, after the anime is done (which was always my plan, but I was never really actively excited about it pff-). And I feel like your anime approach has failed when I’m moreso looking forward to reading the source material eventually. I do hope that with ep5 they’ll get back on track and this feeling will fade. That they have a meaningful plan and reason for why ep4 felt so messy and disjointed - a reason why it had to go this way, because I feel like they just wanted them out of the bunker, but this is not the way imo (more on that in the next segment)
.
#1 - Leaving the bunker - mix of feeling “rushed” and “waste of time”
I feel like where the anime is going, they kind of wrote themselves into a corner in Episode 4. The story setup was leading them to this place (i.e. the bunker), but they obviously didn’t want them to stay there long.
What is the problem? / The way it was setup, we got about an episode of them being there (too few to have emotional attachment to the place) and then being chased out when things went well. In a way it is both too soon, but since nothing really worth the ~1 episode “fluff” happened there in the end, it feels pointless or as if we just wasted time, just for them to leave in the end.
Imo, the bunker is needed for two things, 1) being the first goal for them to go to, so the story isn’t aimless right away and 2) info dumps. Most of the children’s content can be repurposed during their forest time or doesn’t seem relevant right now.
For the record, I personally think that they got found out makes sense in-universe,
WM said he was found out, it’s not unlikely the farm knows that bunkers exist and might even have a vague idea of where they are
that there are multiple could be assumed by the army guy saying, “That’s how shelters usually are” -- If the world has been like this for 1000 years, what other purpose than human survival in a demon would could shelter even have?
I don’t think the pursuers communicated it back (got lucky, Ray) because if they did, they wouldn’t show up a whole month later.
they could have just observed them, they’ve been on the surface quite a bit.
(though I also agree it should be confirmed how the farm found out)
I’m just questioning the impact it had on me as a viewer (which is little) - the world is rigged against them, they can’t catch a break in a system this powerful chasing them and I think part of the confusion and “wait we’re back at square 1??” (literally) is intentional, to evoke the feeling of something being lost. If possible, I would keep the spirit of this idea (see “it’s a trap” in the next segment)
.
So what can we do to fix it?
Skipping the bunker / I don’t think we can remove the bunker outright. I suppose they could have had them just go straight for the new location by having the last keyword be another puzzle instead of the phone recording giving it away directly. But that might have too few things happening. That way they also would have gotten more time on their own to be wandering OR Mujika and Sonju might have been with them longer (which would honestly make sense from a meta point, too. I feel like they were a little short-lived.)
Less time in the bunker / if it feels pointless anyway, get it over with quickly
More time in the bunker / stay longer and have them do something else. Maybe they prepped to already go back to GF, time has passed and then they get raided. Problem: why did it take the farm force so long?
To be honest, I’m not sure that would have been much better so I’m personally more inclined to fix it with a very tightly connected problem, which will be the next segment:
.
#3 - the HELP wall scare was pointless
What’s the problem? / the scare was used in between two segments of “the happy life in the bunker”(TM). The segments are the exact same feeling to me personally, just fluff. The scare changed NOTHING. Nothing that was revealed justifies it existing.
Pre wall scare: WM is an ally, the bunker is for escapees
Post wall scare: WM is an ally, he got discovered, the bunker is for escapees, there were escapees there before (?)
The wall doesn’t even have anything to do with WM. And we didn’t get enough details on the HELP wall, even on its own. Was the book and the “HELP”s from the same person? Why were they going crazy there? What did their siblings die from? It can’t be food, so it must have happened outside. Where they picked up by the Task Force(TM)?
The “don’t give up” is nice, but our crew didn’t need that pep talk I think - i guess with Minerva gone, they lost a hope for allies, but at the same time he gave them coordinates where to get support. If they didn’t get that and now were on their own, I’d get the whole uplifting book more, personally. I guess the tragedy here is that WM is dead? Maybe I’m not emphasizing with the characters enough on this.
. So what can we do to fix it?
Give more details to the wall / i.e. answering the questions posed above. Maybe show more of the diary. Maybe two were left and one killed themselves (they scribbled HELPs and were crazier) and left the other alone, and they decided they’re leaving for the human world. It doesn’t change that the scare doesn’t mean much, but it would at least be a little more personal.
Change the wall / remove the helps, leave the names and the counting. It would be a tragic reveal (instead of a over-dramatic scare) to see that people had died (around) here, making them scared for their own lives (I guess that’s kind of implied to be happening but since it doesn’t linger, I didn’t really notice.)
It’s a trap/they definitely know of the bunker / it’s not “help” but “run” which was a warning someone put there because they figured out the farms knew of the bunker (or they got attacked and one couldn’t leave). It being a trap would make sense because even as it’s now, I’m just assuming they vaguely know of the bunkers’ existence anyway. Then it wouldn’t be “yay bunker life! - scare - yay bunker life! - BOOM” but instead “yay bunker life! - it’s a trap... what do we do?” - you can still have the info dumps & the phone call and then they either realize it’s a trap and just leave (removing the problem of the....... interesting raid scenes), and BOOM (haha) you’re where the anime is now, since the troup got nom’ed anyway and aren’t a threat anymore. The mission would still fail since they’re gone, so Isabella’s plot is in tact too. I think this would also partly solve the bunker problem, because now something actually changed about the setup we know. It’s NOT the safe bunker anymore. It changes a lot about the world too - the farm knows of them so how much more of the WM support net is affected? It makes you think more about the larger scale implications (and ligns up nicely with the “I was discovered” talk from James, therefore making the wall shown at the same time relevant), + the bunker has another reason to be there, to reveal that. Personally, it would change our perception and understanding of the situation, which imo would make up for the lacking investment in the bunker itself. It would also prompt them to leave faster (likely), thus eliminating the “we spent so much time here for nothing” thing. If you really want to you can even have them stay anyway, since it’s the only thing they have and they opt to just leave on the first sign of someone actually being on their back. This requires a better night watch than Don though :D
.
#4 - The little things
Missed drama - the episode was pretty casual about a lot of things; testing potentially dangerous food (fair because it was a nice segment), their new home being gone (fair because no attachment) and them seeing humans being eaten right in front of them (WHY WASN’T THIS MILKED). It makes it all seem like it’s not a big deal - which I guess in a survival story, it kind of isn’t. But I still feel like there wasn’t really any impactful moment this episode it just kinda went “brrr” and now we’re back to episode 1.
for real, please milk the wild demon eating people / he just kinda goes "nom" and the children are there and run. It feels like the anime itself barely takes it seriously - it's the first time (I think), they see a human get eaten by a demon and I feel like that could have used like a close up shot, and some more disgusted reactions by the children. I get that it's a world where that just happens but I feel like the anime just didn't take or see the change to do something more personal with it. I like it as an element at its core because it makes sense; they shot around, attracting the demon and I also like the irony of being saved by a wild creature. Even if that now chases you.
incompetent soldiers - why do they have guns? they can’t HARM / KILL the quality food, so WHY GUNS? -- People with guns are usually incompetent in anything because they just can’t hit anything, but that at least makes sense here. Still, what was the plan? Sheer intimidation? They’re the farms’ force right? Why don’t they know how to deal with wild demons? Possible answer: to prevent humans with guns knowing how to eliminate their higher ups :D doesn’t change that it makes them look stupid. Bro really got defeated by getting a cup thrown in his face. To be fair this specific one didn’t seem to be the brightest bulb, why the “huh?” when he found Don??? Is this relevant I’M SO CONFUSED.
where’s the character moments? - when they got to the bunker, everyone else kind of got the focus, and the main cast just didn't have any of those character moments anymore that made the previous episodes, especially episode 2, so touching and emotional for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the kind of fluff content with the children a lot but I kind of missed some.... it feels like it's more event driven (#BOOM) than character driven now, and idk how to really attach to that? Especially since with ep4 we didn't even really learn anything new (aside from a name and that he was indeed good and is now dead I guess).
.
#5 - Why?
Warning: this goes a bit into comparisons (nothing concrete though), and I obviously don’t know more than I picked up from fandom reactions.
My guess is that
“So... I cannot at this point say that we are going to animate the entire story to the very end. We are not at a point where we can say that. Sorry. (Laughs)”
from the MAL interview might be a factor. It seems they wanted to tell their own spin regardless (which I personally respect) but maybe they thought that unless they had a two-cour, it would be hard to keep up the investment the first season set up with what was originally in the manga (I had heard that it would be a weird pacing to do 11 episodes and maybe they wanted to make sure viewer engagement was high).
> “We know that there are viewers who, after they watch the anime, want to continue on and read the manga, and there are viewers who have read the manga first and are now watching the anime.”
(I’m not sure if “after the anime” means after a season or after the the whole adaptation)
Their goal is definitely an “unique” experience. And they seem to at least be aware that some people watch the anime first, so it has to make sense in a bubble.
I can’t say if I would have preferred a slower start into whatever the manga has that caps off at 11 episodes (idk how much rewarding stuff could have fit in there), since they probably fear of not being able to do a complete adaptation too. And I feel like as I’m getting it, they are trying to quickly reintroduce what people cared about in s1 --- in Isabella’s case, maybe a bit too early. there was barely any time to really miss her imo.
But I’m also not sure if whatever they’re aiming for will be rewarding. I hope so, because I don’t want their efforts to go to waste. And I don’t want to come to dislike it.
I can admit faults, ep4 is definitely a lowpoint even without knowing the alternatives. Just that for me, it is annoying little things and not the shocking deviations from the manga.
.
#6 - Hope
I have hope though because Isabella’s stuff was good, and now that they’re over the no-return divergence point, they might be able to... (meta spoiler) not repurpose manga scenes without any buildup (is what I’m getting) anymore :”D, because they really only set themselves up for disappointed with that. It might seem like a homage but it’s moreso out of place, the people who read it aren’t happy because you didn’t earn it (and of course they’ll compare) and the anime suffers from it because it can create unnecessary confusion forced in just to make a reference.
Ironically I think they’re too stuck in the manga too and could have benefited from a blind perspective.
I don’t really mind anything overall I think (world is against them, that’s fair, being out on the run again is fine, the demon “rescue” is fine), the execution / some details of episode 4 were just... strange. idk where they are going with it and maybe that really was the best way to transition but until I know where it goes, I can’t really judge that. Highly doubt it though.
I really hope they completely just do their own things now with some base elements from the manga.
.
A lot of what I talked about in this post ended up making me appreciate the crumbs of intention. The realization that previous escapees didn’t make it (not all of them, anyway) and WM being dead, and then having that uplifting message. The message of “you don’t get to rest, you’re on your own again”. The irony of the wild demon being their (temporary) rescue. The past escapees.
Ironically, I wanted to dunk on the anime but really, all I feel is more content now. Would I have preferred some fixes? Yes, but I see some semblance of meaning in it even with the errors.
Thanks for reading this goddamn essay.

BTS American Hustle Life Ep4
Ep 3 recap: BTS are in LA to learn about hip hop. During that episode they met their dance teacher, Jenny Kita. She set them a few challenges including a solo demonstration, a dance battle against professional dancers, and the task of choreographing a dance routine in small groups. J-Hope’s dance skills shone the brightest throughout which was both a surprise and a delight! Jin, despite being the least proficient dancer in the band, tried really hard and it paid off in the final challenge – he and J-Hope were deserving winners.
We also started to see the friendships between the band members more, which was quite lovely. I really hope this continues in the series.
 On to Episode 4!
Holy cow, that dorm is an absolute pigsty. Ewwww! The amount of water bottles alone makes me want to cry.
Tumblr media
Lol, I wonder how RM and Jimin ended up having to clean the dorm up?
They did a good job with it though and somehow managed to find some fun in between. The bathroom scene was hilarious!
Tumblr media
Like last episode Jimin appears to have dropped some of his mask. Maybe I’m just seeing things but in this ep he just seems a little softer around the edges - more playful rather than loud and over-the-top. I think RM is good company for him. I’m not sure how to word it without accidentally making it look like I think the other lads treat him poorly (which I don’t believe they do!!) but I think RM is quite respectful to Jimin? As the leader RM’s attention will be pulled in many directions and when he can give spare undivided attention he probably spends it more on his elder bandmates as they are closer to his own age. However, I get the sense that when he does focus on Jimin he does it with the kind of patience and gentleness that the others are maybe not quite so liberal with? That’s not to say he won’t tease Jimin or joke around with him (he does) but so far it comes across as a little warmer than the others perhaps because he’s naturally gentler in nature? I’m probably talking out my **** here but that’s just what I’ve sensed.
One final thing: Jimin’s English is really improving!
So while Jimin and RM are cleaning the dorm, Suga, V, and Jungkook are on laundry duty. LMAO how is that fair? I was thinking that the “chores” were punishment for losing the challenge in Ep3 but Jimin and RM were so close to winning and yet seem to have been given the worst chore?
LOL, how can those three lads make laundry seem so complicated??
They really are big kids – I’m glad they can find ways to have fun though. But ewwwwwwwwww Jungkook, the 3/5/7/10 second rule is a myth, don’t eat things off the ground – particularly in a foreign country!!
Woah!!! they licked each other’s ice creams without hesitation!
Tumblr media
To be honest I think it is more of a reflection on my own culture rather than theirs that this seemed so surprising to me. Generally sharing food without the ‘ew that’s got your spit on’ and other hang-ups – particularly between boys - ends around 8-10 years old here.
Jungkook sweetie, I really doubt you’ve put on much weight – are you sure you haven’t just grown another few inches? It certainly looks like you’ve grown. At this point you might end up towering over Suga and Jimin.
Ah so Jin and J-Hope are food shopping. So maybe these chores are not punishments for losing the challenge. I’d still like to know how Jimin and RM got the short straw to clean the dorm lol.
Oh good grief, BTS cooking – after their challenge in the first series I dread to think what poor concoction they’re going to come up with.
OK so J-Hope’s cheese sticks verdict… V = X, RM = XX, Jimin (so cute as he bounded over like an excited puppy) = too polite to use his new English word “disgusting”
Jin’s ham on toast concoction: LMAO at Jin blowing on the forkful before feeding Jimin. No comment on Jimin’s tongue action though…
It seemed to taste okay judging by Jimin’s reaction. RM does not agree lol. It was cute how Jin was feeding the rest of the toast to Jimin and Jungkook like a parent feeding infants.
Tumblr media
After what I wrote earlier about RM it’s nice to see the other lads interacting with Jimin more. I wonder if some of the impatience that occasionally comes across is simply down to the editing?
So we move on to a new day and the whole group are heading to Long Beach by foot. Crikey, Jungkook looks like he’s grown another inch over night!! Why on earth is he wearing two layers in the LA heat???!!
It’s great to see that BTS are still ‘star struck’ by celebrities. I guess, back then, the band were not that well known – at least not like they are now. They certainly did not cross my radar – not like 1D did.
LMAO – V randomly saying he drooled when he saw Warren G. What?????!!!!
Warren G seems a great guy; very chill and calm with the band. *Again I’m going to say it but I love how BTS have the confidence to say another man looks handsome like they did when admiring the photo in the record store*
Yeah Warren G is a really decent guy.
There’s something fundamentally poetic in the way that Jimin said of Warren G, Snoop Dogg, Nate, (in a tone of amazement and disbelief) “They were just elementary kids but became legends”. I mean, BTS were once ‘elementary school’ kids and while, in that moment, Jimin did not know how big the band would get, the same sentiment applies to BTS.
Tumblr media
So their new challenge is to write lyrics based on their own lives to Regulate.
Good boys; slapping on the sunscreen – thumbs up for skin care!
Oh good grief Jin, if the American dorm is slowly becoming like your Korean dorm then I shudder to think what state your Korean dorm is in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oooh so the band are opening up a little about their lives in order to make lyrics for their rap.
After a bit of travelling by bus and making friends with the locals, Jin and J-Hope settle down in a park to talk. We learn Jin started off acting and not singing? Now that’s interesting! Not all of BTS had joining a band or even BTS’ music style in mind from the beginning. Jin also has a brother and he was into hip hop so Jin had some knowledge of it before joining the band.
J-Hope’s turn and he admitted when he first joined the band everyone was a rapper and he was the only dancer which made him feel remote.
Tumblr media
This, again, is really interesting to learn as this was the scenario I was pinning on Jimin – unless there were different BTS members back when J-Hope joined? I really don’t know how the band was formed so I hope at some point they talk about this. I liked how Jin admitted he was surprised to hear about J-Hope feelings. They should talk like that more often.
RM and Jimin travel to another part of town – near the school/college that some of the most famous rappers in the music industry attended. I really like the motto of the building “Enter to learn go forth to serve”. I’m not American so I don’t know it’s true connotations but to me it’s simple and strangely compelling. Like; ‘We don’t care who you are either come in and learn and repay by using it to serve the community - or travel forth on down the street and sign up for the army and serve that way. There’s a purpose for everyone.”
Tumblr media
RM and Jimin talking <3
Jimin’s answer to what he found difficult when he joined the band is fascinating. While the translation felt a little off, it reads as he cares a lot about what others think of him and doesn’t want to let anyone down or let any of his (self-perceived) shortcomings hold others back. In order to achieve this he spent a lot of time trying to catch up or improve so that no one could easily spot his weaknesses. Ultimately, he wants to care less what others think of him so he can lose some of the pressure? I really think there is a lot more to this “want to care less about what others think” than the vague answer he gave (or was edited in). His starting phrase “I should live quietly for the sake of my team” was quite a loaded sentiment and didn’t quite follow what he said next – definitely some careful editing there.
RM’s sentiment echoes this. He talked about seeing a very over-weight man walking around LA topless and admired the man’s confidence to not care what other people thought. RM wants some of that confidence to stop constantly watching out for what others thought about him. This is the type of pressure many celebrities talk about a lot. In my opinion, any one remotely “famous” are seen as role models (rightly or wrongly) and society holds them to ridiculous standards. Make one mistake and that’s you cancelled like you are some item in a shop that can be returned for a refund. I personally think people have a very skewed idea about what makes a ‘role model’. For me, a role model shouldn’t be perfect but when they do make mistakes they should own up to it, apologise, and attempt to fix or make up for any hurt caused. We, as their fans, need to relearn how to accept an apology, forgive human errors, allow people to learn, and move on. Min rant over.
Moving on: Suga, V, and Jungkook are down near the beach front discussing their lyrics. The way V instantly thought of his Dad tells me he’s quite family orientated. It was touching the way he said he made him the person he was today.
Jungkook’s thoughts where based more on his internal thoughts of himself as a person and a musician. It was very honest of him to admit that back home he’d been pretty confident of his talent but once he joined (BigHit?) he quickly realised there was a lot of people with as much, if not more, talent than him and it knocked his confidence. I wish Suga had spoke more about his own thoughts rather than just write the lyrics.
 Challenge Day:
To be fair, all three groups rose to the challenge and not only had some great lyrics but sounded polished and rehearsed. We only got snippets of the songs but from what we did hear I would struggle to pick a winner. I guess, for me, it would feel like picking one’s persons’ struggles over another’s. Hard to judge.
Lol at Suga oversharing about being in the toilet when he was writing *crying with laughter face*
Awww, Suga, V, and Jungkook won. They definitely tried harder with this challenge than the one in ep 3 so I felt it was deserved.
Tumblr media
Final musings:
Another interesting episode. I think the band learned a lot more about hip hop this episode and Warren G was a real gent. We also learned more about each band member in terms of their thoughts and experiences when joining the band. We (I) also learned more about their personalities which hadn’t been so clear in previous eps and series. I think the editing can misconstrue some moments so I’m probably going to re-evaluate my musings on each band member from time to time – this is a good thing though!
Looking forward to ep 5!

Tropical-Rogue Pretty Cure Ep4 Liveblog
It’s Cure Papaya time! Manatsu and Sango meet one of their seniors, Minori, who loves mermaids and even wrote a story about mermaids! But then she lost her confidence after someone told her that it was just a fantasy, not real life, which is conveyed throughout the episode through the use of shadows and light as a great visual metaphor!
Tumblr media
starting a Precure club sounds cute but would they be able to get the club recognized with only four members? (I remember this was a plot point with the fashion club in Heartcatch, where the student council threatened to discontinue the club if Erika couldn’t get a certain amount of members.) it also comes across as Laura trying to get Manatsu (and now Sango) to prioritize being Precure over anything else again
past precure lore!!! so the previous precure was just one person, similar to how Lumiere was originally the only Precure in kirapre until the others formed a team of precure. she was someone who defended both humans and mermaids... inch resting ...
why doesn’t manatsu know the difference between fiction and non-fiction
i was gonna say that at least this time Manatsu remembered to politely refer to Minori since she called her senpai but then I realized she also nicknamed her. Manatsu queen of being very casual with people she’s just met
a lil mermaid aficionado...
i like how the subs turned the title of Minori’s story into a pun by calling it “Mermaid’s Tale”
“(minori’s clubmate, paraphrased) mermaids are just a fantasy you shouldn’t write about them” ok but what else is she supposed to write in writing club??? isn’t the point to write fiction???
hello again dugong
i am going to be amazed if Laura manages to keep herself secret around normal people who aren’t going to wind up as Precure because she pipes up every single chance she gets. the whole town is going to be even more abuzz about mermaids than it already is
she’s so smug about being found
once again Manatsu is being unsanitary and trying to give her lipstick to other people BUT ignoring that this is such good framing. Minori is standing in the shadows because she lacks so much confidence in herself and her interests while everyone else is in the sun. In order to put the lipstick on her, Manatsu has to step out of the sun and into the shadows — she’s bridging the gap between herself and Minori to help her gain confidence! oh wait wait I just realized Minori also walked into the shadows after she got too scared to touch Laura’s tail and didn’t resonate with the compact! so not only is she stuck in the shadows of no self-confidence, she also put herself there, whether she realized it or not.
so for the group transformations they’re going to cut between each of them applying their respective make-up type? that’s cute
Tumblr media
and now AGAIN Minori is stuck in the shadows, unable to step out and help Summer and Coral while they’re struggling. This time, it’s Laura who reaches out to her, but unlike Manatsu she doesn’t step into Minori’s space — rather, Minori gathers the strength to walk out of her shadow with her own two feet and take control of her destiny!
i still think it would’ve been cooler if Minori kept her glasses when she transformed
love her eyebeam attack so much!! (technically it’s her earrings but same difference)
this is yet another really good fight. Tropical Rouge has had an excellent track record of these so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
her fantasy is a reality!!!!
Minori was able to regain some of her confidence! Next time, it’s the aloof senior Cure Flamingo’s turn to debut, and then the whole team is together!

Fafner the beyond episode 4 review:
Tumblr media
I don’t remember the last time I laughed while watching Fafner....it was probably during #the fafner rewatch or something. TBY ep4 not only made me cry out of laughter but headdesk out of laughter, which is a new record. And I was worried this ep was gonna be angsty....
1) Seeing Kosoushi get his ass kicked was strangely delightful. Leo was reallyyyy enjoying it. Mimika was excited to use her lance on Kosoushi to knock him out. I didn’t expect that ep to have an humorous tone but it’s always good to be pleasantly surprised. I was afraid they were going to pull the “Young Inexperienced MC beats warriors with years of training and experience under their belts because MC Privileges” trope but thanksfully they didn’t and Kosoushi got the spanking of his life
2) Speaking of moments that made me laugh....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dylan delivering that line in such a deadpan voice and killing the tension in that scene was amazing. He’s got strong Tired Babysitter Vibes
3) Misao is gonna Misao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They probably put all these funny moments in ep4 because they plan to kill Misao later....sigh....
4) Thank you Mister Voice Of Reason
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was waiting for someone to voice that opinion. While it’s cute to see the charas happy to have Kosoushi back, it also makes sense to have charas outraged by Kosoushi’s behavior. I would even say it would be bad writing not to have a character voice that opinion. Because that Kosoushi situation is no laughing matter: the kid got brainwashed by evil aliens and was ready to destroy Wadatsumijima with Mark Nicht. Mitsugu was probably trying to determine whether or not Fumihiko was letting his feelings cloud his judgement when he asked him “how do you plan to deal with him?”
I really love to see how the Alvis charas and Fafner pilots feel about Kosoushi. The Soushi they knew was a brillant tactician and pilot they all heavily relied on but he also was a socially awkward person who was taught to suppress his feelings and only think of the greater good. The Soushi they have now is a irritable, dangerous kid who could kill them with Mark Nicht. But the worst is, they still need to rely on him, because he’s apparently the only one who can find Tatsumiyajima
5) While I’m on it.....
HOW DO YOU EVEN LOSE AN ISLAND?!
The stuff with Burns and Hester cooperating with Fumihiko was terribly OOC and, frankly, insulting, but I can at least rationalize this as some kind of “Welp, maybe we should stop killing our fellow humans and work with them instead so we can have a chance to defeat the Big Scary Alien” situation
But the stuff with Tastumiyajima? Its really too much for my suspension of disbelief. It’s a fucking ISLAND. It doesn’t move, moreso now that it sank in the ocean, along with Altair. Did no one in Alvis wrote down the island’s coordinates? Really?
Also, it took 4 episodes (out of 12) to finally get the main plotline....
6) The stuff with Burns and Hester gets slightly less OOC if these two are planning to betray Fumihiko later. You can’t expect me to forget 30+ episodes of “the Human Army is evil! They have no compassion for humans or Festum! They would even kill their families without regret!”
One of Hester’s lines intrigued me tho:
Tumblr media
That implies there was a split in the HA, that Hester doesn’t lead it anymore. Who kicked her out and who is leading the HA now?
Knowing Fafner, I probably won’t get an answer to these questions.....
7) Fuck them kids
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I probably wasn’t supposed to laugh at that scene....)
8) Stuff that made my heart melt:
Tumblr media
(if i can’t have Soukazu, can i at least have Kazumaya?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(my ship ;-;)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(how old is that dog)
Tumblr media
9) I got two seconds of Jonathan and I fucking screamed. I’m probably the only one in eng speaking fandom who likes him....
Tumblr media
10) TBY is just excellent at cliffhangers

About season 8 ep4
FULL OF SPOILERS OBV.
1. Jon IS an idiot. He still wants her knowing that’s his aunt and knowing she is power hungry. He thinks very little of what that actually means. He knows she doesn’t really care about the people. It’s sickening honestly. We struck out on political Jon at least we struck out on half of it. Yes he bent the knee to get her to go north. But he obviously has feelings for her.
2. Sansa warned Dany. And if Dany had a lick of sense or any good instincts as a ruler she would have listened. She doesn’t have the wisdom to see and take good advice and now she is losing to Cersei again. And Jon WHO KNOWS NOTHING encouraged her to not listen. So unless this is the ultimate set up to force Dany to fail Jon is complicit in Cersei gaining the upper hand.
3. Poor Missandei. Another brown person falls victim to Targaryen hubris by getting the crossfire between one of them and a evil Lannister controlling the evil Mountain. Rest In Peace with Elia, she understands. It’s awful every time an actual innocent person dies on this show.
4. I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t like Sansa betraying Jon’s confidence even if it was for his own good. She should have compelled him to stay and make it public on his own. For the record 10 people know.
Jon
Dany
Sansa
Arya
Bran
Sam
Tyrion
Varys
Howland Reed (who apparently got lost after season 6)
Wyla (if that’s her name; who was almost surely Jon’s nursemaid from Dorne to the North when Ned took him)
Jonsa fam: YOU ARE AMAZING. The artwork, prompts, fan fiction, all of it is great. The metas we wrote; fantastic. But it’s unlikely to be canon on the show at least. D&D looked for a moment like they were maybe moving in that direction but Jon needs to be smarter than he is for that to happen and tonight’s episode confirmed for me that he is not. We gained nothing from this episode. There are only two left. I’m just gonna resign myself to the idea that’s it’s not happening. And that sucks because I wanted it to. And seemed so possible. I’m sorry to be a Debbie downer and I don’t want to kill anyone else’s hope. But I’m tired. And they don’t want fans to be happy at all. That’s why they killed Breime and Gendrya as soon as they happened. I’d rather not have our ship be like that and be disappointed a third time. But they already succeeded because I am disappointed for a third time.
I’m pretty sure all fans lost on this episode. It was made to break our hearts. And now Ramsey’s voice is echoing in my head.

House MD series 1

We Can do it Together or Without You (Phantom Traveler S1, Ep4, Pt3)
Supernatural Season 1, Episode 4, Part 3 Warnings: Swearing Words: 1,709
Masterlist
A yawn escaped your mouth as you read another countless article on your computer. Dean sat on one of the motel beds, reading something in a book as Sam sat next to you at the table with his eyes glued to his own screen. Articles were taped to one of the walls of the motel room along with pictures of creatures. You reached for your cup of coffee to take a drink but it was empty. You frown and rub at your tired eyes as Sam broke the silence. “So, every religion in every world culture has the concept of demons and demonic possession, right? I mean Christian, Native American, Hindu, you name it.” “Uh huh.” You mumble and yawn again for what felt like the thousandth time that day. “Yeah, but none of them describe anything like this.” Dean says, looking away from his book. “Well, that's not exactly true. You see according to Japanese beliefs, certain demons are behind certain disasters, both natural and man-made. One causes earthquakes, another causes disease.” Sam says, you stood up. Maybe walking around will help you shake off the tiredness. “And this one causes plane crashes?” You ask as a another yawn escapes your mouth. Dean stood up and crossed the room to his brother. “All right, so, what? We have a demon that's evolved with the times and found a way to ratchet up the body count?” Dean said, you nod. “Yeah. You know, who knows how many planes it's brought down before this one?” Sam says, Dean snorts and looks away. You paced around the room with your sore ankles. “Problem, Winchester?” You say, glancing at the older brother. “I don't know, man. This isn't our normal gig. I mean, demons, they don't want anything, just death and destruction for its own sake. This is big. And I wish Dad was here.” You stop walking and look at Dean with the full attention you could muster from your tired body. “Yeah. Me too.” Sam says as Dean’s phone rang. “Hello?” Dean answers, you walk over to one of the beds and lay down, closing your eyes. “Oh, hey, Jerry.” Dean said, you let out one last yawn as you felt your body relax. “Wha—Jerry, I'm sorry. What happened?” Dean walked over to you and nudged your body with his hand as he listened to whatever the other person was saying “Where'd this happen?” You groaned as Dean nudged you harder, you peek open your eyes after forcing them to open. His green eyes glared down at you. “I'll try to ignore the irony in that….Nothing. Jerry, hang in there, all right? We'll catch up with you soon.” He hung up and put the phone in his pocket. “Another crash?” Sam asked as Dean forced you to get off of the bed. How did Sam stay up all night and not crash at all during the day? School? “Yeah. Let's go.” Dean said as he handed you your coat. You groaned and put it on. “Where?” You ask, as you put on your tennis shoes. “Nazareth.” He replied, you scoff. That’s ironic. *** You were once again in Jerry’s office, this time with a cup of caffeine in your hands; which you sipped on as Jerry looked through the microscope. “Sulfur?” Dean asked, Jerry nodded as he looked away from the scope and turned his attention to each of you. “Well, that's great. All right, that's two plane crashes involving Chuck Lambert. This demon sounds like it was after him.” You blew on your drink to cool it down quicker so you could consume it faster before you passed out due to lack of sleep. “With all due respect to Chuck, if that's the case, that would be the good news.” Sam said, you glance at him. “Bad news?” You ask. “Chuck's plane went down exactly forty minutes into flight. And get this, so did flight 2485.” Sam said, your mouth made an O shape. “Forty minutes?” Jerry said with confusion in his tone “What does that mean?” “It's biblical numerology.” You say “You know Noah's ark, it rained for forty days. The number means death.” “I went back, and there have been six plane crashes over the last decade that all went down exactly forty minutes in.” Sam said. “Any survivors?” Dean asked, you shook your head as you remembered the articles you read in your sleep deprived state. “No. Or not until now, at least, not until flight 2485, for some reason.” Sam said “On the cockpit voice recorder, remember what the EVP Said?” “"No survivors." You say, sipping your drink. “It's trying to finish up the job by going after all of the survivors.” *** You laid down on the backseat in the Impala as you listened to Sam talk to someone over the phone. Your eyes were closed but yet the headlights of the passing cars made it into your sight in the darkness. “Really? Well, thank you for taking our survey, And if you do plan to fly, please don't forget your friends at United Britannia Airlines. Thanks.” Sam said before he hung up. “All right. That takes care of Blaine Sanderson and Dennis Holloway. They're not flying anytime soon.” “So our only wildcard is the flight attendant Amanda Walker.” Dean said, you groaned as you sat up and stared at the two men in the front seat. “Right. Her sister Karen said her flight leaves Indianapolis at eight pm. It's her first night back on the job.” Sam said, he glanced back at you. “Just our luck.” You say with a yawn. “Dean, this is a five-hour drive, man, even with you behind the wheel.” Sam said, you nodded your head in agreement. “Call Amanda's cellphone again, see if we can't head her off at the pass.” Dean said. “I already left her three voice messages. She must have turned her cellphone off.” Sam replied, he looked at his brother. “God, we're never gonna make it.” You shook your head as you laid back down and closed your eyes. “We’ll make it, Sammy.” You whisper as you went into slumber. *** Less than five hours of sleep is how much you got on the way to the airport.  Dean quickly parked into a spot and locked the Impala behind the three of you as you ran to the airport. Your eyes scan the departure board. “Right there. They're boarding in thirty minutes.” Sam points to the board. “Okay. We still have some cards to play. We need to find a phone.” Dean says, he looks around and finds a telephone hooked into the wall. “Hi. Gate thirteen.” Dean says, he leans his hand on the wall as he listens to whoever is on the other line. “I'm trying to contact an Amanda Walker. She's a flight attendant on flight, um...flight 4-2-4.” Dean bites his lip as we waits, he impatiently taps his fingers on the wall. You pace back and forth, eventually you worked up Sam’s anxiousness, he grabbed your shoulders to hold you in place. “Miss Walker. Hi, this is Dr. James Hetfield from St. Francis Memorial Hospital. We have a Karen Walker here…. Nothing serious, just a minor car accident, but she was injured, so—” He squeezes his eyes shut as he listens to Amanda. “You what?” He whispers “Uh, well...there must be some mistake.” Sam and You go around Dean to try to listen to whatever is going on. “....Guilty as charged.” Dean smiled “He's really sorry….Yes, but...he really needs to see you tonight, so—” He stops and pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration “Don't be like that. Come on. The guy's a mess. Really. It's pathetic...Oh, yeah….No, no. Wait, Amanda. Amanda!” Dean slams the phone onto the hanger. “Damit!” “Calm down there, cowboy.” You say, placing your hand on his arm “By your reaction, she didn’t buy it?” Dean shook his head and ran a hand down his face. “Deep breaths, Dean, it’s time for plan B, getting on that plane.” “Whoa, whoa, now just hold on a second.” Dean said with wide eyes, you and Sam stared at him with confusion. “Dean, that plane is leaving with over a hundred passengers on board, and if we're right, that plane is gonna crash.” Sam says. “I know.” He breathes, gulping. “Okay. So we're getting on the plane, we need to find that demon and exorcise it. I'll get the tickets. You get whatever you can out of the trunk. Whatever that will make it through the security. Meet me back here in five minutes.” Sam says, you nod in agreement as Dean looks between the two of you anxiously. “You okay?” You ask, Dean shook his head. “No, not really.” He admitted. “What’s wrong?” “Well, I kind of have this problem with, uh…” Dean trailed off, you and Sam shared a look. “Flying?” Sam asked, Dean slowly nodded. “It's never really been an issue until now.” “You're joking, right?” Sam asked, Dean looked away. “Do I look like I'm joking? Why do you think I drive everywhere, Sam?” “Okay” You cut in before a fight could break out “Sam and I will do this on our own.” “What are you, nuts? You said it yourself, the plane's gonna crash.” Dean said, looking between you and his brother. You shrugged. “Dean, we can do it together, or Y/n and I can do this one on our own. I'm not seeing a third option, here.” Sam said. “Come on! Really? Man…” Dean trailed off and groaned. *** Dean sat between you and Sam on the plane, you had the aisle seat while Sam had the window. Dean put his seat belt on before he clutched onto the armrests with white fingers. He anxiously read the safety card on the back of the seat in front of him. “Deep breaths, Dean.” You said as you held out your hand for him to hold. He clutched onto it like a lifeline. “Just try to relax.” Sam said, Dean gritted his teeth. “Just try to shut up.” He said, Sam smirked causing you to glare at him as Dean squeezed his eyes shut while the plane took off.
