Something about Vecna's Left Hand 🤔

This post centers around the patterns of handedness in the NINA sequence and Creel flashbacks as it relates to Henward's bloodstains.

Honest to God, though, I'm trying my damnedest to find a good way to organize all the pictures I've annotated about this guy. I decided it was best to just go by jumpsuit, so I'm using Em's current naming system (JA-JE) for cohesion between sources. I also decided to try to narrow the main shots down to ones that include hand use, since that's what I really care about in this post (even though some others will be included for speculation purposes). I'm not diving into injuries or bodies, even if there are annotations about those topics, because those aren't super applicable in regard to this analysis.

First, a TL;DR recap:

Good? Okay, let's get started.

JA.

He's not the Vecna we see in the transformation sequence from 4.07, nor is he the one we see in the Mindflayer shaping sequence.

He's a lefty, though:

JA is associated with El's initial eye blood pattern:

But not with her second eye blood pattern:

He also seems to be the gauntest of our Henwards, especially in comparison to JC:

Which...lots to think about there, considering this:

I won't rule out the possibility of him being a Vecna, of course. He's just not the thicker one we're shown concretely by the transformation sequence in 4.07.

Anyway. Moving on.

JC.

This is our guy. This is the jumpsuit that we're told goes with our main Vecna via the transformation sequence in 4.07.

He's a lefty.

JC is also the only bloody Henward we see doing hands-free moves, interestingly enough.

His Jumpsuit matches Vec-Ward's, as seen here:

JD.

JD's only appearance is at the very end. He does not appear before El slams him through the mirror.

He isn't shown using his hands, but his jumpsuit matches the guy who shaped the Mindflayer (as seen here):

Which means we can say he is also a lefty:

JD is associated only with El's second eye blood pattern:

A Quick Recap:

JA, JC, and JD are all lefties. We have seen no right-handed Massacre-Henwards so far.

The only bloody Henward I have questions about is JE, and that is solely because his sequence is shot through a mirror, presenting a lefty as a righty.

He's holding her chin in his left hand, but the camera choice presents it as his right hand. I can't, of course, rule anything out (especially given all the "mirror/holding up a mirror" stuff with him).

At the end of the day...it is meant to be recognized as his left hand, otherwise they wouldn't show us the mirror at all. They would just cut to him using his right hand normally. So, unless I have reason to think otherwise, I'm assigning him working-lefty.

I also can't concretely assign the bloodless JB suit.

This is because his only move is the hands-free one that we see JC do in the previous shot:

For now, though, I'm also assigning him working-lefty. This is based on the direction of his head tilt, which is the same as our other known lefty:

In conclusion:

Concrete Lefties: 3

Working-Lefties: 2

Concrete Righties: 0

I won't say that we don't have Henries in this sequence, because of course I can't say that. If he is shown on screen, though...he's either JB or JE, one of our two inconclusive lefties.

However: As it stands, we do not have any concrete righties, which would be an indisputable indicator of Henry's status as a mass murderer. If they wanted it to be indisputable, they would have made it that way.

Soul eater AU, keep in mind, just like Black Butler, I've never seen this anime, I have read up on it extensively. Hizashi's the weapon right? And I think I already asked what he turns into in another question... but how does their relationship work in that AU? Do they meet at the school, are they already friends?

Hizashi is the weapon and Shouta is the meister. Shouta’s a pot meister, which is what these gauntest are called in universe. They have a speaker on the palm, where they emit a loud screeching sound- similar to Ragnarok’s screaming resonance.

In this au, they are partners at the DWMA and live together while they study there for 5 years. They met at the school and Hizashi basically went I’m your weapon partner now, since you need one!! Eventually they’ll grow up and teach there, but for now we get cute teenager shenanigans while they fight horrific monsters.

A Mist Minute: Episode 1 - Pilot

Sometimes we just don’t have the time to make a whole podcast episode about something like a TV show because they’re sooooo many episodes long and we’d need a million podcasts to cover them adequately. Who has time for a million episodes? Certainly not us! Just putting out 40 or so a year is killing us already and the sacrifices we’ve had to make in our personal lives are unmentionable. But every now and then there comes a TV show, nay, TV event, that we feel that we have to cover, especially when they relate to episodes we’ve covered already. I am of course talking about the new The Mist show, based off of the story by Stephen King (And 2007 Film) which we have definitively covered more extensively than anyone else on the internet ever and you can listen to HERE. So without further ado, the first of our “Minute” series, The Mist: Episode 1 - Pilot:

EPISODE ONE - PILOT

Military guy from The Arrowhead Project has amnesia, because of course he does, it’s TV, but I’m glad that they’re sticking with The Arrowhead Project and not making up something else goofy. Military guy gets his dog killed by something in the mist and then arrested for acting like a nut going on about mist.

A bunch of the gauntest actors around get up to adventures! Gaunt mom from The Vikings gets fired from school because she told kids about Blowey J’s! Gaunt daughter doesn’t like her gaunt mom because she won’t let her go to a football party! Gaunt daughter’s gaunt bisexual friend’s dad hates him because he wears make up! Gaunt drug addict lady kills a dude with a pitchfork, tries to dig up a bag of money from someone’s shed, get’s arrested!

Not so gaunt father tells gaunt daughter she can go to the football party behind gaunt mother’s back so long as she brings gaunt friend. Football players don’t like him due to him not just wanting to pound chicks because stereotypes are easy and everyone seems to treat sexuality like it’s the 80′s and not 2017. Maybe small town Maine is just super homophobic even today!

Well the lead up to this show talked about how much sexy sex was going to be in it, but what they didn’t tell you was that it was going to be the rape of a minor, ugh. And of course nobody but her parents believes gaunt daughter was raped by a football player, who is the son of a police officer! And of course the other football players throw rocks through the Gaunt’s house windows and spray paint whore outside the house! Any other cliches we can throw in here?

Frances Conroy is in this too! She’s so much better than the material provided and only made me wish they had cast her as Mrs. Carmody in the 2007 film. She notices a bunch of frogs and birds coming out of the woods and goes to the library to read about the “Black Spring” of 1860, allowing a little of the dialogue Mrs. Carmody has in the short story to show up for the first time.

40 minutes into the episode the mist shows up. Not so gaunt father has gone to the police station to report the stoning and gets stuck there with rapist football player cop father, doofy officer, gaunt friend, amnesia army guy, and gaunt druggie. A bunch of roaches eat doofy officer, cop father drives off in his car, and the other 4 are left at the police station to fend for themselves.

Frances Conroy and her husband are walking back from the library when some crazy guy comes out of the mist, shoots her husband, then hearing some monster kills himself, she runs to a church and meets Father Guy from Frasier.

Gaunt mother and daughter are at the mall where a character named Mrs. Carmody throws some shade about mother teaching BJs in sex ed, but mother comes back with some shade so hard about Carmody’s son that all the other old grandmother’s in line at the pharmacist with them give a knowing “Bitch got served” look. It’s cool though, Carmody goes out in the mist and gets her jaw ripped off so that she can look gory screaming back through the window at the other people in the mall. We also see that football player rapist is stuck in the mall with gaunt daughter too.

So I don’t hate this. Amnesia and football player rapist are both some seriously overplayed BS, and a rape is always a super cheap way to get some tension going so there’s that. Whoever did the casting also has an obvious hardon for gaunt actors, so if you have anything other than an ectomorphic body type you’re not going to find anyone like you in this so far. Even though “trapped in a mall with monsters outside” is not a new concept, I think it’ll work here, especially when I know ol’ Isiah Whitlock Jr. is going to be running it.

And speaking of swearing, I do like that they are dropping the F-bomb through the episode and just muting them out. I think this a much better than having grown adults not using the kind of language that grown adults would use as you see on really any ABC/NBC/CBS cop/hospital/crime show. What I DON’T like is that when you have bought the episodes on Amazon they are still muted out, because they think I’m some kind of delicate eared baby or some shit. I don’t know whose choice this is, Spike or Amazon, but I do know that when I watch The Magicians I get to hear all the fucks and shits and sexy talk in that (which is most of the show, granted) no problem. What I’m saying is that SyFy is more on the ball than Spike so far as third tier cable stations goes.

Lastly, let’s talk about third tier cable stations, and how you might think they might have the budget to afford technology better than a film from 10 years previously, but so far it’s not looking like it. All the mist seems to be done digitally or via a mist filter and it looks generously not good. I’m hoping they are saving all their special effects budget for the monsters, which may be the case as all we’ve seen kill a guy is some cockroaches somehow. That’s not super clear at this point because we’ve only heard a bunch of guys getting killed by monsters but have yet to actually see one. I swear to god Mist tv show, if you fuck me over on my mist monsters...

So yeah, there’s some garbage here, but there’s some possibility too. TUNE IN NEXT WEEK FOR HOPEFULLY SOME MONSTERS AND SOME MORE SEXY SEX SEX!

but then, if Henry isn't vecna, then when does the switch happen to Edward ?? And whose time are we in, Edward or Henry?? Or are they both parallel to each other, intersecting cause of him?? Or are there 2 vecnas, one being Richard Brenner and the other Edward creel?? What if Edward creel is Richard Brenner ?? Why are there so many variations of the upside down?? Cause the tunnels were different from the og will going missing ud, which were both different from s4 ud?? what if there are 3 variations instead?? Is each variation related to the ud??

Therein lies the question, huh. Where the hell is Henry?

I can say pretty concretely that we've been swapping between viewing Henry and Edward during NINA. I'd bet that at least the plinko scene and the chess scene are Henry scenes, but that's as far as I've gotten at this point so do with it what you will. The timelines seem to run in parallel, but personally I think certain events were crossover/contact points of some kind (i.e. 1959, 1979, 1983, etc). NINA is especially fucky because we never see that part of the lab outside of NINA, so we can't exactly say what, when, or where it is. We can't even say without a doubt that it physically exists, especially given how oddly time and space move in NINA. The whole thing is extremely bizarre and difficult to track (Trust me. It's a mindfuck).

I'd give an estimation of 75% certainty that the massacre sequence is entirely Edward based on handedness. I can say for sure that one of them became Vecna and another became the Mindflayer. We can track one particular Scorched Edward to the Mindflayer shaping event, so that one is definitely responsible for ST2 and ST3. Vecward is ST4 at least. ST1 remains a weird outlier that I'm not certain on yet.

As for Brenner...god, it's hard to say. Based on the Vecna transformation from 4.07, where he looks just like Brenner, and the "it wasn't supposed to end like this" line...I'd say there's a chance that he's Richard, Vecna, and the Mindflayer. I'm staring at Nick 8flix saying that Brenner was "part demogorgon" and wondering what, exactly, he meant by that...And if he was right about that, then he may very well have been right about Will recognizing Brenner in the desert. The whole thing is super messy and I'm not able to give too much concrete evidence about it.

However. If I was to speculate...

Jumpsuit JC is our main Vecna. JD is the Mindflayer guy.

JA and JE are still unaccounted for.

JA is the gauntest Henward (compared here to JC), which has me staring at the weird thickness swap for Vecna's face.

It also has me staring at the difference in Vecna's speech pacing/syllable emphasis/use of contractions/etc.

i.e. "Max" vs "Maxine", which never swap within a continuous sequence:

If Max and Maxine are going to swap, they're always split up by cuts to other storylines. This is true in both 4.09 and 4.04.

JE doesn't show up again after that one weird mirror shot, so I have no idea what happened to him in the end. Where did you go, JE??

He doesn't show up anywhere else in the rest of the massacre sequence, which means he was stuck in there to deliver a specific clue. They wouldn't put a whole new jumpsuit in for one singular sequence unless it was meant to convey something.

Something about this one has me chewing cement. Because Martin is Martin, Owens calls him by name multiple times. He has a specific hair part, which is not the Season 1 hair part:

But the Season 1 left side part does show up here...

the beginning of which happens drectly after Vecna kills Patrick. It's a direct cut from Vecna's face to this scene, which is a direct parallel to this:

It's really fucking suspicious.

Season 1 Brenner/ST4's Season 1 Brenner lookalike is often posed incredibly similarly to Vecward, regardless of his jumpsuit pattern:

Massacre-Henward in general is styled very similarly to Season 1 Brenner, particularly JA, JC, and JE (NOT JD/Mindflayer Henward):

Also, JE specifically has direct parallels to Martin Brenner in the sole sequence that jumpsuit exists in:

So, if I had to guess, and this is purely based on paralleling, styling, and gut feelings: JE may be our Richard Brenner, JA might be our gaunt Vecna (Max Vecna or Maxine Vecna, I'm not sure which goes with which yet).

Imho, it seems like the ST1-ST3 UD changes are based on whether or not there's a mental component, but I can't say anything for certain yet.. I have a full analysis of the UD coming, though. That's what my insanity web is lmao.

As for which timeline we're in right now...fuck if I know. It really is hard to say atm. So. Sorry, nonnie, but I just don't know 😭💔
