This book stands out on graphic novel shelves; it has so much shelf appeal that I've picked it up over and over and flipped through it to look at the colors and drawings. The pages that show the northern lights were my favorites before I started reading it.

Men are searching for gold, and two women caught up in that search are the center of the book. Joanna is looking for gold herself; she trades everything she has for supplies and a chance to join an expedition. After she's rejected because she's a woman, she meets Tala, who tells her about the only group that will accept her, Matwei's. Then they leave without her and Tala. Both head out after the group on their own. Joanna soon has a rescued dog, Peg, accompanying her. Tala finds the group and they accept her as a tracker, though Matwei threatens her. The men in the group go a bit crazy when Joanna tries to rejoin the group, too. And then just after they threaten to eat Joanna's dog a giant wolf attacks. (This surprised me even though I did see the cover.)

This becomes a story of survival and cruelty (via Matwei and other men) and eventually of friendship between the young women. Joanna spends a significant portion of the book remembering her homeland, which she idealizes but which has something seriously dark about it. (It feels like something awful happened there, and the truth is revealed throughout the book.) Even when the two women find gold (a late moment in the story shown early in the book) it's unclear if the men will let them keep it or if they'll be able to earn money from it.

Throughout, the beauty of Joanna's home and the wilderness are amazing whether it's the focus or just background details.

Okay! Time to ramble about my head-canons about Kel, Mikhael, and their relationship! (Keep in mind this is gonna be a little incoherent, copy/pasting a lot of my thoughts from Discord lol)

First and foremost, not like obsessing over sexuality is important but, I definitely see Mikhael as Bi/Pan (really just something mspec) and Kel as Asexual and Demiromantic. My reasoning for Mikhael is simple, he radiates disaster Bi energy lol (In part because he can “smile seductively,” and have it affect Sunny and Kel, but also because he pays girls to hang with him). As for Kel, Idk, I just see him as caring more about who you are than what you are, he’d def love somebody for being them than because they’re a specific gender. (Also because Ace Kel is great, bite me.) (Also also I feel like people need to give Kel more credit, he may be a little naive/not the most mature, but I feel like he’s got good emotional intelligence, would def try to understand a friend’s problems and try to help as best he can. My boy’s got a big heart and he’s trying his best.)

I feel like the both of them would definitely have some kind of family trauma/pressure. I think both of them would have the shared issue of heavy familial expectations: Mikhael trying to escape his family business and trying to stand out, while Kel being stuck in Hero's shadow while also being overlooked because of their new baby sister, Sally. I think this presents itself in Mikhael's attention seeking behavior, painting himself as anything other than in his family's image, putting on this "confident" persona to try to get people to see him as anything other than just like his older siblings. Whereas Kel...I'm not sure what to take from here, tbh... (part of why I'm hoping for feedback,, heh...)

As for their relationship dynamic, I think behind closed doors, they'd be pretty affectionate, Kel wanting to comfort and validate his (annoying <;3) boyfriend on his individuality, while trying to talk him down from the insincerity of his false face (being the Maverick), while Mikhael is happy for the positive attention and to be seen for himself. (This makes things sound kinda one sided, I need to work on that...) In public, I think might try to be more low-key, neither of them wanting to admit to their respective friend groups that they're seeing each other. Wanting to keep up appearances and avoid the embarrassment of being teased.

Feel free to shoot me any questions or comments to flesh things out! I’d love to maybe write a fic about them one day, and I work best if I can bounce ideas of somebody, heh ^-^ (I know this is all really rough, and you can really tell when/where I started to lose writing motivation, heh...)

I tried the Goldrush Jalapeno Smokie Beef Sticks and these were pretty good.

These beef sticks were well seasoned and were not tough while also easy to eat.

When I opened these they did had a little spicy smell to them.

These had a slow burn like at first it tastes like a normal non spicy beef stick then later the heat creeps up but it only warms up my tongue but didn't make me cough which I was surprised.

The outer coating was chewy while the inside was soft.

These were lightly salty to me.

I would eat these again with my oatmeal.
