Burger (Short) King | Epel Felmier

Synopsis: It’s date night and the place you selected to go with Epel was this humble fast food restaurant that serves the best hamburger in the north part of the island. Well, even if you weren’t that curious about the truth in those rumors, you just wanted Epel to have fun at dinner for once.

Notes: This idea came from one of my talks with @pandoa about Epel’s SR Cerimonial groovy and I just idealized this dinner night with Epel. What can I do? I love bacon and the smile of happiness shining on Epel's face. And, like always, I tried my best to write him with a southern accent... I really tried ;w;

Burger (Short) King

The burger had barely been brought to your table and you just sat there in wonder on how Epel got so quick to devour the meal. It was just a dinner date in the Sage Island village at a decent Saturday night time.

But there he was — your little lilac gremlin of a boyfriend — stuffing his mouth full of meat, bacon and lettuce with gravy as if it were the first and last meal of his life after centuries of starvation. Manners at the dinner table aside, the promotional burger was really that delicious.

When you saw the announcement promo on Magicam, you immediately remembered Epel.

It was a double steak burger, with bacon and thin onions fried in shoyu sauce, keeping company with lettuce and fresh tomatoes, tasty pickles and a special sauce “ala Chef’s mode”. Everything a delicious fast food meal could offer in carbs and a few extra nutrients.

Or it was what Epel tried to justify on the way there, which made you both ask for apple juice. But the juice alone wouldn’t nullify the bacon or the steak, you assumed with good humor.

It was then that the real reason for Epel’s enthusiasm occurred to you: most, if not all, of Pomefiore would not take your dinner so good-naturedly.

You knew that clogging up with fast-food wasn’t beneficial in many ways, but it was only for one day. Epel wouldn’t die if he ate enough meat for one night. In fact, with the addition of the potatoes and the pie he planned to buy for you both as a dessert at a nearby bakery, you wondered how much Epel usually ate for dinner.

You knew that before Epel met you, he sat alone in the cafeteria most of the time at the beginning of the year. Sometimes he was accompanied by Jack because they were the same class, other times his dorm leader and vice would personally supervise him — if there was time on their lunch schedule.

Epel even had a bag of onions in his blazer pocket to put for lunch if he needed it, which usually drove Jack’s sense of smell crazy. But he didn’t have to bring anything like that to your date, fortunately.

“Is it good?,” you asked after taking your first bite of the burger.

Epel had his mouth full of bacon and chips when you asked him for his opinion. He swallowed it all before answering you.

“Delicious, I tell ya what!,” he replied with a big smile.

It took a few minutes but Epel’s mouth was freer to talk — and let slip a little of the accent you loved so much.

“You know that no one is going to steal your sandwich, right? You can eat more calmly. You know, like really chew and enjoy the food,” you giggled, trying to reassure him.

“Have ya forgot who my dorm leader is? Well, I s’wanee I’ll be damned if not admit that, without Rook, I wouldn’t even be here. 'To thank lil’ someone don’t kill nor take a bite out of ya', meemaw say.”

You didn’t remember hearing anything similar before, but if it was advice from Marja Felmier, there was nothing to question.

Not to mention that it was a big truth — it took a lot of bribery and dramatizations of your wish to have dinner alone with your boyfriend to convince Rook to be your accomplice in this far from nutritional crime.

Just in case, you two were in the corner closest to the back exit of the diner, with no windows in sight and with a lot of things around to keep people from recognizing you.

You never know when you’re picking a poisoned apple from a seemingly well-meaning old lady, or even an extremely romantic hunter. Can’t never risk enough, you could only suppose. You would do anything to ensure the success of that date.

Epel took advantage of your thoughtful moment to eat some more. His eyes, when not closed with satisfaction, had a delightful shimmer to them that put the night stars to shame.

It was the best gift you could have given him. In fact, the boy could only think that apple carvings wouldn’t be enough to reward you.

He was actually going to try to plan something truly worthy of your kindness to him — and his countryside stomach that wouldn’t deny good meat in front of him.

But you didn’t feel like you needed any reward. Watching his joy was enough to make your heart happy. You took a sip of the apple juice, amazed at the way Epel smiled even while chewing. You held back a laughter as you watched him lick a sauce mustache that was forming above his lips.

Epel’s joy was your greatest and most precious treasure. It was enough.

“I’d do anything for you.”

“What didja say?,” the boy asked, distracted.

“C-can you pass me a napkin?,” you tried to disguise your words, not wanting to scare him with the intensity of your emotions.

Although confused, Epel shrugged and held out the small box of napkins to you.

While you were bothering to wipe non-existent crumbs from your mouth, the look of your boyfriend and his smile went unnoticed by you. Even if it took a long time before you could repeat that kind of date night, nothing would change within his heart.

Epel would still love you tons.

A while ago I had made up a Zak for each day of the week to match Zak Saturday and Monday for fun, and because I wanted to give Zak some more AU similar to how Ben gets a lot of them. So not only do they all have different last names, but each have their own backstories and colour theming! So I hope you enjoy my little AU concepts.

-Zak Saturday-

Classic original Zak. I decided to draw them all when they're 11, start of the series vibes. So that's why he doesn't look like the ways I normally draw him currently, since those are when he's 14. Nothing different with his design here, beyond still giving him those vivid orange eyes.

-Zak Sunday-

Also known as Zak Argost, having been taken in by the man after he had a certain encounter with Zak's parents, resulting in their deaths. When Argost found the young toddler, seeing the start of Zak's power, he was happy enough to take the child with him and use his powers to his benefit. Due to being taken when he was very young, Zak doesn't remember his parents at all, fully believing in anything Argost tells him, the only family he has. So he happily helps his guardian in keeping cryptids tamed during Weird World shows, or during trips to learn about them, even if Argost puts Zak in more danger than he should. Due to his appearances on Weird World, Zak is a celebrity of sorts, even if he doesn't get to go out often. Argost also gives him a lot of gifts, keeping the child in a positive mood to keep him under his thumb. So Zak truly believes that Argost cares about him.

Though things start to turn when Argost finally decides it's time to hunt down Kur and take his powers, hiring Van Rook and Doyle on the mission. This leads to Zak and Doyle getting to know each other, with Doyle feeling protective over this random kid for some reason. Eventually this leads to him taking Zak away when this whole Kur business gets out of hand. While Doyle can't seem to convince Zak that Argost doesn't care about him, the pair do at least agree to try and find Kur first, Zak worried that even Argost shouldn't handle such powers. However, only time will tell if the pair discover the truth behind their unknown family history.

-Zak Monday-

The good old twisted gremlin of a child, Zak Monday and his family were a result of the smoke mirror. They come from a world that twists the very nature of people, a poor reflection of their negative aspects. If you're naive, then your mirror self is incredible dumb. If you're a bit of a perfectionist, then your mirror self is a control freak. And Zak Monday represents the twisted doubts of Zak feeling like a monster, so why have any doubts when you can be the monster?

I decided to change Zak Monday a bit to have the green eyes and green shirt with his own logo, cause I liked the idea that after his first appearance, they switch back to what they're suppose to look like. But other than that I kept the concept of him looking just like Zak, minus the inverted hair colour.

-Zak Tuesday-

The young naga is the son of Rani Nagi. Born solely to have Kur's soul enter and be a host, but whoops! Looks like Kur's memories aren't there, but that wasn't going to stop Rani Nagi, who thinks if she keeps at her plans, eventually her son will become the old cryptid king she once knew. Even going as far as to solely call her child Kur, who secretly calls himself Zak due to him often watching humans in the shadow, curious about them and wanting a name for himself. Zak Tuesday has a lot of identity issues, not helped by his mother's teachings towards him, ignoring all his dreams and personal thoughts. Eventually he just got really good at lying rather than convincing Rani Nagi.

However, the young cryptid prince is suddenly kidnapped by Argost one day, as he figured out where Kur's soul was currently living. Zak knew he would have died that day if not for Drew and Doc recusing him, having been chasing Argost over this Kur situation. Though they're a little surprise that upon meeting the new Kur, they find it's just a young naga who really doesn't know who he is. At first Doc and Drew didn't know what to do with him, but Zak begged them to not send him back home, and let him stay at their place until he could figure things out. He wasn't foolish, he knew the nagas were planning a war, and he wasn't keen on being the face of it all. So now the Tuesdays just have a snake living around the house, but they can't exactly complain as he is a well mannered guest at least. And perhaps the house doesn't feel so lonely with him around either.

-Zak Wednesday-

Some of you might recognize this one, but this Zak is from my old Zur AU, where Kur was reborn via the Kur Stone due to it being an egg, and Zak is a dragon that shapes between human form and dragon form. I decided to update him, making him Zak Wednesday now, with a pink theme! I also decided that instead of Kur being reborn, I wanted to shake things up a bit and have it that Zak was directly Kur's son. His mother is unknown, and as Kur saw how the world was at the time, he put Zak's egg into a stasis situation until it was discovered again. After saving it from Argost, the egg hatched among the secret scientist, leading to them chasing the child of Kur. But upon using his shapeshifting abilities to look like a child of Drew and Doc, they just couldn't help but adopt him on the spot, siting there was no sense in blaming Kur's son over what happened years ago.

The growing dragon is very playful with a cheeky personality. He exhibits a lot of draconic behaviors, with a wild and free spirit. He is aware of his family history, but he doesn't like to think about it, unsure in how to view his father based on the stories he's heard. Besides, Doc and Drew are his parents, and that's all that matter to him. Though perhaps this sudden appearance by Argost, claiming he was going to far Zak's father, has been a bit rattling to deal with.

-Zak Thursday-

When Kur knew he was going to die, and also knew his soul wasn't able to live the mortal realm, he made plans to make it so his reborn self would both be born in hopefully a better time, and be without his memories. It was better that way, so that his new self could live a lovely life without the sins from his past. But that didn't exactly pan out properly, as Kur was reborn and sadly remembers everything. It took him a while to understand this growing up, his young human mind not processing it until he was roughly 7-8, and even then he needed time to think about it. And now he's a depressed 11 year old who now has to be stuck with the fact his plan didn't work, unable to run away from the person he once was. Doc and Drew found out the truth when Zak tried running away one day, their son sitting them down and telling them the truth in hopes they'd just leave him, it would be better that way. But to his surprise they disagreed, as he was still their son, Kur or Zak, and it would be too dangerous to leave him alone.

So now Zak lives with his parents? Are they really his parents? The family keeping this dark secret to themself, even from the other scientists. Doc and Drew still reach out to their son, doing their best to connect with him, but he can't help but push them away. He doesn't deserve this, and they deserve better. However, their secret might come out after Argost stole the Kur Stone and now hunts for Kur, not realizing the truth right in front of him. So now the family tries to get the stones back, wanting to protecting Zak/Kur from others finding out. Doesn't help that he has to go through being a child again with such dark memories lingering in his head, feeling tired and overwhelmed with the world. Hasn't he suffered enough?

-Zak Friday -

In a world where Kur and cryptids successfully wiped out humans, the king ruled the lands for a while after, before one day he mysteriously vanished. Many concluded that he had died somehow, the details unknown, but this lead to a prophecy that one day their king would return, leading to many claiming to be him, or praying that they will be him for the power and wealth. In this universe, Zak and his family are all cryptids, with Zak being a a Chuvash Dragon, Drew and Doyle are Epimeliads, and Doc is a Gargoyle (Other characters are also cryptids in this timeline). Zak is a serpent like dragon that breathes fire, as a very twistable body, and can freely shapeshift. He's heard about the legend of Kur returning, but frankly he thinks they don't need him, even if the cryptid world has been shattered without a king for years now.

But when a yeti named Argost claims that Kur is back, being backed up by the Nagas, everyone starts to gossip and run around trying to figure out who the new Kur is. So maybe it's best that Zak doesn't tell the whole world about his sudden new powers to control and communicate any fellow cryptid is walks by.

Dorm Leaders When They're Drunk + Signature Drinks

And also what their fellow members think of the drink but that's too long of a title.

Yeah it's another @jackplushie silver bullet post because I had this thought and I couldn't get it out of my head until I wrote it down lol. Also with pictures of the drinks!

Also I don't know shit about alcohol so I have no clue if these descriptions are good/make sense.

Riddle's Screaming Rose

As it turns out, Riddle + Alcohol = MORE RIDDLE. When he's drunk Riddle becomes so much more focused on his rules, and his order, that it almost becomes comical. It doesn't hurt that he's a bit more forgetful, once you caught him in a panic because he was wearing the wrong color for the last Thursday of the month… on a Saturday. His gang members are careful to stay out of his way when he's drunk, they're not interested in the extra discipline. The drink itself is SWEEEET. It's flavored like strawberry and is good with food. Riddle normally orders more dessert, while his fellow members tend to prefer actual food. The only one who doesn't drink it is Cater, he still likes how it looks though.

Leona's Purring Kitten

You thought he was going to be the sleepy drunk? Well he usually is, but this drink of his is made with coffee so he actually tends to stay awake. And when he does well… prepare yourself for a LOT of unplanned affection. Leona spends most of his time drunk trying to get your attention, complimenting you, staring at you with a moony grin on his face, whining in your general direction. It's not unique though, his gang finds out he's more likely to praise them when he's drunk and they are ecstatic! He doesn't forget what happens when he's sober though, so whenever they abuse the opportunity too much they're really in for it afterwards. Ruggie likes it, it keeps him up and he can snack on the cookie that comes with the drink. It's a bit too bitter for Jack though.

Azul's Mermaid's Tears

Yeah no surprises on this one. While he normally manages to be perfectly put together, none of the stresses or worries of his life breaking through to the surface, once he gets tipsy… Well that's when the waterworks start. He's going to be venting to you about everything, his contracts, his diet, the twins. Honestly if you actually hated him you probably had some decent blackmail. If some of his tears get in his drink it probably isnt a big deal, its already got a salt rim, and other than that it tastes… healthy? The Leech twins tried it once when they were over. Floyd declared Azul's taste in drinks was boring. Jade meanwhile said that it was… fine :) just fine. Neither of them ordered it again.

Kalim's Sleepy Tiger

You thought he would be the happy drunk? Well yeah he would if he could hold his liquor… Kalim thankfully doesn't cause you too much trouble, sober or not, but he's even less of a problem when drunk. The worst that he does is force you to call Jamil because he always forget to mention he's going to the bar, and then he falls asleep. Most of the time though he just stares at you would be drinks with a soft smile, and then you'll turn around and find him snoring gently on the counter. Jamil usually orders a drink when he comes to pick Kalim up, the date syrup was his idea, before the drink was just a mango infused spirit with whipped cream.

Vil's Cranky Virgin

Vil really hates you for this one. But he was pretty rude when he first walked in so you're not that sorry. It got its name from what Vil calls being 'married to work' and what you call 'having no game'. Oh, and the complaining. "Oh bartender, your hair is messy! Straighten your tie Epel! Rook button up your shirt!" Vil is even more likely to point out errors in appearance when he's drunk, but he's… also just generally more easily upset. Most people tend to give him a wide berth when they find him trying to fix your hair over the counter. The drink itself is appropriately expensive tasting, made with apple syrup and a VERY herbaceous liquor. It's a good seller since his whole gang tends to order it too. Epel hates that he likes something Vil enjoys, Rook doesn't care what the drink is, he just wants what Vil wants.

Idia's Gamer Rage

Y'know how Idia gets when he's talking on his tablet about something he really cares about? Yeah imagine that. Times a thousand. For the love of God do not mention any show or game he's been into lately. He WILL bombard you with questions and he WILL start a fight if you have the 'wrong' opinion. You've had to throw him out on his ass multiple times for starting shouting matches, to which point Idia has the dubious honor of having a drink limit. The drink itself is bubbly and flavored like blue raspberry, and more like a boozy root beer float than a proper cocktail. It's one of the few you make a non-alcoholic version of, for Ortho. You'd give it to him normally (you've murdered people, what's enabling a little underage drinking?) if he asked but he's the one who asks for it virgin. He tried it normally once without knowing and as it turns out he HATES the taste of alcohol.

Malleus' Dragon's Tantrum

You were originally going to call this one 'The Horny Lizard' but that was a bit much so you toned it back. As it turns out, Malleus Draconia, incredibly powerful and the most feared crime lord in the city, is a very emotional, clingy drunk. He at the very least dutifully waits until the end or the night to get totally wasted, because when he does he's climbing over the counter to attach to your closest limb. Since none of his gang members are willing (or able) to help pry him off of you, you have to close up pretty soon after. Unless another boss happens to walk in, but that causes… further problems. As for the drink itself? Boy is it sour, all the lime mixed with the absinthe makes it a drink almost no one other than Malleus orders. Of those who do, Lilia seems to barely have tastebuds, Silver likes it because he can't fall asleep when his face is so puckered, and Sebek doesn't actually like it anymore than anyone else, but he refuses to drink anything but Malleus' favorite. At your bar at least.

Since you requested asks, how about some saturday family headcanons?

I have so many!

Zak and Doyle run off a lot to go cause chaos somewhere to do something fun.

Zak pretends to be frustrated with his parents when they make decisions to ensure his safety but would honestly be highly concerned if they stopped and would get upset.

Wadi, Francis, and Ulraj spend the summer with the Saturdays and after drew and Doc saw how happy it made them (excluding Francis who pretended to hate it) to be around other kids their age. They do this every summer.

After the series finale, they continue cryptic work and Drew and Doc have to stop Zak from going on as many missions because his impulses still say “I’m gifted. I can just persuade them to not attack me with my powers” and hadn’t clicked that they were gone.

Zak every chance he gets makes a big deal about Drew dating van rook.

I head-canon ins “This could totally happen in an Au but isn’t Canon in source” way that Doc is trans and this sparks a break down for zak. How was he conceived? Was it a surrogate?? Was Van Rook his dad! (He would cry ever single time this thought crosses his mind but not have the strength to ask.)

Drew and Doc have a scrap book of all the dates they’ve been on and have either a Polaroid or something from the date.

Doyle spends WAY to much time on puzzles and things to stimulate his senses. He has a drawer FULL of fidgets that zak has gifted him.

Zak would also make a damn good psychologist in the future. He has a lot of practice when fixing his uncles whack as mental health. (Which he decided to do unprompted)

Zak once locked Doc and Doyle in a room with two weeks worth of food, two air mattresses that inflate via batteries and blankets. He also left a workbook about healing relationships.

The first impulsive teenage thing Zak did was take the Saturday Sub to Australia and chill there for three days completely unprompted and without warning. (He was 14)

His parents put trackers in the soles of his shoes bc this type of thing became a regular occurrence.

Prank wars were a 24/7 thing. You were never safe.

Zak would bribe Zon and Komodo to help him a lot. Fisk would stay out of it and in turn became a person that isn’t allowed being pranked.

The kids would get in on it in the summer.

D&D!!! This game is my special interest, so it's no surprise that it's my favorite part of my week. We had really long roleplay sessions for my Friday campaign last night, and the party finally got to learn a few things about Cyra, plus she got some... interesting news about her old gang... And tomorrow for my (usually) Saturday campaign I get to traumatize my poor boy Rook some more! (Poor man really is my punching bag... he's already been through so much...)

Playing video games! I bought Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous on January 1st, and I've played 98.3 hours since then, and am enjoying it immensely. I just hit level 20 yesterday! Cannot recommend this game enough, especially to people who liked BG3.

Seeing pictures of my parents' cats! My mom just got a new kitten a little over a week ago, and I'm so obsessed with her, I can't wait to meet her! And my dad's cats are still being their adorable, weird selves, and I want to see them again soon.

Watching Critical Role! I'm inching ever closer to the end of Campaign 1, and I'm not ready for it to be over. I can't decide if this ending will devastate me more than the ending of Campaign 2. On one hand, I preferred C2 overall, but on the the other, my favorite character dies at the end of C1. But either way, I love this silly little show, and it brings me so much joy. Watching Campaign 2 was literally a life-changing experience for me.

Daydreaming about my OCs! Even if I haven't been able to write lately, at least playing around with scenarios for them in my head at night while I'm trying to sleep brings me joy. These silly little guys (gender neutral) are truly the lights of my life. (This does include my D&D characters, btw.)

Buying books! While I was home over winter break I bought 7 books, and just yesterday I ordered 9 more, including a few from some writeblr people! I'm excited to read them whenever I get the chance.

Finding new music! In the past week I got really obsessed with Arrows In Action's latest album (Built To Last), and then WE MADE PLANS AND GOD LAUGHED by Beauty School Dropout came around and put me in a chokehold. It's fun finding new music that I like, and I'm excited to share it with my mom when I get a chance.

Happy birthday Myungdae.

It isn't a first for Deva to be spending time here at the Rook's Roost. At first it would be to share a cup of coffee with Myungdae on a saturday morning before both tend to their busy days. Soon it turned into wednesday nights with Nell and Alfred as well, all around a beer and discussions that could last for hours. And tonight, for a special occasion. The coffeehouse is closed to the public for a small celebration with just the four of them : it's Myungdae's birthday. They all knew he did not want anything big out of it but at the same time, it meant too much to all of them to celebrate Myungdae they way they believe he should he celebrated. Around the table, a warm meal and beers are shared and now, it's time for presents. Each one of them has a little something for him. "My turn already? Alright, Alright." Deva speaks, putting her glass down. A natural smile is resting on her lips as she stands up and gets the package she has for him, stored under the table, and then, she hands it to him above the table. "I'm reaally proud of myself on this one, you know." Says Deva quite proud indeed, and eager to watch him unwrap it as she sits down again. "At first I wanted to get you a tie. An ugly one just to see our friendship is strong enough for you to wear it no matter how ridiculous the damn tie is-" She teases, her usual teasing side grin showing, a slow laughter following her words. "But then, I found this. And This is how strong our bond actually is. It made me nostalgic." This is what's hidden inside, it's a frame, a picture of them no less than ten years ago, prior to him becoming the Black Knight, prior to him having everyone from his past life removed, prior to him forging himself an entire new identity. When the framed picture is finally out, her eyes cannot help but to linger on it. They both were freshly turned 25 or was it 24 on the said picture. "I watch us at that age and I realize... Well first of all, fuck, these haircuts? Why did nobody say anything? It would have been for our own good." She jokes, her tone, amusing, and then, slowly gaining her serious back, with a hint of nostalgia still. "We didn't know what was coming our way huh. And after all that, we still are in each other's lives and that's the friendship, our friendship, I knew I needed in this life. I'm thankful for that.

If you know someone who already has everything I’ve ever published, maybe consider the books listed below. I’ve asked Mac’s Backs to have them on hand this weekend for Small Business Saturday. I had to throw the list together in a hurry, so it’s not exactly extensive or cohesive but these are all books that I like and that I think someone who likes my books might like.

Some of them come with caveats. Some of them are for older or younger readers. I loved (really loved) The Library at Mount Char but it is violent and gruesome and is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Update: the owner of Mac’s Backs pointed out Hell Bent and The Stolen Heir don’t come out until January which makes be very sad because I was sort of hoping to get them for Christmas. I’ll have to spend my Christmas money on them, I guess.

Last year, when I saw that Book Moon Bookstore was recommending TLAMC, I bought a copy for a friend. My friend loves Kelly Link's work like I do, so I asked Kelly, as Book Moon owner, author extraordinaire and MacArthur winner, to write her recommendation inside Hawkins book.

Just a heads up, there’s no magic in this one and it’s not science fiction like Erin’s Scorpion Rules. Erin spent months in Mongolia doing research– the setting of the book is not mythic historical Mongolia– it’s Mongolia with a lot of history and also cell phones.

“It goes against all tradition for Aisulu to train an eagle, for among the Kazakh nomads, only men can fly them. But everything changes when Aisulu discovers that her brother, Serik, has been concealing a bad limp that risks not just his future as the family’s leader, but his life too.”

The Last Samurai–Helen DeWitt

This is LITERATURE. Okay, I don’t actually know what constitutes Literature with all caps, but I don’t want you to be disappointed when you pick this up and it’s slow and weird and you don’t know why I recommended it. I am recommending it because once you immerse yourself in the slow and the weird and the stream of consciousness this is a genius book about a genius and her even more genius child and his quest to discover which one of seven potential sperm donors is his father and it has absolutely nothing to do with the Tom Cruise movie and it is genius.

Rook–Danial O'Malley

A friend pointed me in the direction of Rook. I said, oh, la la la, secret bureau of supernatural affairs in London, I have seen this before and I am so grateful to my friend who said NO. YOU HAVE NOT.

“The body you are wearing used to be mine.”

So begins the letter Myfanwy Thomas is holding when she awakes in a London park surrounded by bodies all wearing latex gloves. With no recollection of who she is, Myfanwy must follow the instructions her former self left behind to discover her identity and track down the agents who want to destroy her.

The very best thing about recommending this book is that @shaelit saw the recommendation and told me that there’s a new book in the series! Woo hoo!

The Library at Mount Char –Scott Hawkins

Again, I don’t want you to be disappointed, or in this case, I don’t want you to be horrified and think omg Megan recommended this book? Yes, it is gruesome. Yes, there is violence and yes, violence involving children and yes, I entirely understand why it might not be your cup of tea. I deeply appreciate the fact that the book starts as it means to go on. If you read the first few pages and you are put off, please go read something else! That said … I loved it. I can’t tell you why, but if you read it, you’ll probably guess.

2022 Omniverse Rewatch + Episode Ranking

Part 2: Arc 2

assorted thoughts/observations:

So do you think that when the Omnitrix recalibrated in Alien Force, that Ben did try and see if the failsafe was only for the original version/if Feedback was one of his new aliens?

Also I like that this series added Ben meeting Azmuth more times in between Secret of the Omnitrix and Alien Force season 2

Yeah, Gwen’s new look looks way better than her look in the first episode

You can tell that Gwen and Kevin are just happy to see him

“just replace Vilgax with a pompous art-history professor” named Xagliv, right?

I like that they emphasized the “transformer” thing

Rook and Kevin’s friendship is very underrated

Gwen reading during her vacation is a mood for me when I was in college. Also as someone who did take college classes when she was in high school, around when these episodes were coming out actually, I can relate even more.

Ooh, someone from Pesky Dust’s species in the background

Kevin secretly being engaged when he was younger explains why his and Gwen’s relationship wasn’t really defined I think

AU where Devlin was Kevin and Looma’s kid

I really like Gwen in this episode so far, she’s very reasonable

Okay that moment is still kind of weird? Like I still don’t really get why she reacted that way

Why would Ben say “you and what army” to a Tetramand, of all people?

If I had a nickel every time that Kimberly Brooks played an alien princess, I’d have two nickels. That’s not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

I think this is Bumper Robinson as the radio voice? He sounds like this series’s version of Doc Saturday. Also yeah, the robots from Dimension 12 come back later.

Wait, is that from the show Rook likes, or actual news?

Those fish sound terrifying.

I prefer Jury Rigg fully clothed.

“next time I see Azmuth, I’m gonna step on him” Malware would say the same

I really do like this look for Diamondhead, it works for him

So this villain is like Brainiac but not scary or cool, and with boats instead of cities or planets.

Also how does Ben know those aliens’ weaknesses, I don’t think they’ve ever been used against him before

The Omnitrix is being extremely nice to Ben this episode, giving him two of his heavy hitters

@justmenoworries recently did a rewrite of the Malware arc, proposing that this be a Malware-centric flashback instead, and I’m all for that, I wish that had been the case

Still can’t tell if that’s Corey or not. Okay, wiki has him credited as “Alarm” in addition to voicing Malware, Brainstorm, and a Plumber, so it’s finally confirmed that it is actually him I’d say.

Fittingly enough, Malware is kind of both a giant robot and a monster tentacle thing

So what he’s doing here is kind of staged too, since he’s just the distraction. Interesting.

Ben realizes that that Malware glob could have touched the Omnitrix, right?

If it’s a weapon of last resort, why did Max use it?

Goddamn I love his voice so much, I’ll never get tired of it

Did he really drain Feedback to an empty shell?

Ben is smart again this episode, it’s nice to see

Hey so how did Malware get out of the Plumber base in the flashback

And we get our first view of Billions tower!

I love that two of the people who are most often angry at him are front and center in the crowd, showing their appreciation to him

Has Dee Bradley Baker played Starscream yet? Because he’d do a good Starscream.

Bold of Rook to suggest Ben would get his hands dirty, because there’s literally an episode set on a farm where he does everything in his power to avoid that

So how cool would it have been to keep Feedback out of the opening except on young Ben’s side, and then add him to present Ben’s side after Showdown part 2? Unless they did that and I just forgot about it

What exactly is a tesser-burst?

If that’s a back scratcher, why is it at the table to begin with?

Also I appreciate that Rook’s family is all voiced by non-white actors! (specifically, Alanna Ubach, who’s Mexican/Puerto Rican, Kimberly Brooks, who’s African-American, Eric Bauza, who’s Filipino-Canadian, and of course Bumper Robinson himself, who’s also African-American)

Man. It would have been real interesting to see Max and Gwen’s reactions to Malware coming back to life, seeing as how they saw him blow up too. And of course also Azmuth reacting to the same, as Malware is his son.

Wait, could Gwen have sensed Malware’s mana? Do Mechamorphs have mana?

God. Malware was imprisoned on his fucking home planet, waiting for Azmuth, unable to interact with his society because his touch was poisonous to them.

How long was he there?

It would’ve been real neat to get stuff from his point of view, in general

Oh yeah, these are those same robots from that one Ultimate Alien episode, right?

How many fanboys has Ben dealt with?

He has multiple people who would count as his nemesis and/or destroyer, I think.

Okay, so it is “fluke”. I never quite understood what they said until I saw this episode with captions.

So how does that Mechamorph have something that looks like a flashlight on their arm cannon?

Just gonna paste my text post from I think earlier this year here: also you know what’s interesting about showdown part 1? so in the intro, you get Psychobos speaking first, then Khyber, then Malware. All three of them get a line each.

and then in the rest of the episode, there are two times someone asks “Malware?”

The first time (when the Galvan museum is locked down, trapping Azmuth inside), Psychobos answers, and the second, we don’t get a spoken answer, but we see that Khyber has taken the Nemetrix but left his dog behind.

The third actually comes in the beginning of showdown part 2, when basically someone asks “Malware?” and the answer is finally yes.

Hey, you said you were an open book, Ben.

Did the Plumbers keep track of that or something?

Most of your aliens are awesome and cool, Ben.

Wait, so does Rook think this is an Alien X type of situation

Heatblast’s look in this series is still very cool, I think.

So where was Malware during this? Like, he was on Galvan B five minutes before the end of this episode, but right here, was he just waiting on the ship?

It only took weeks to create the Nemetrix, really? Even then, that was only because he had a partial blueprint of the Omnitrix.

I know I dunk on Azmuth a lot for being a terrible father, but yeah, he is very smart and I appreciate that.

And this isn’t the first time he’s been trapped in an arena of sorts, nor is it the only time he will be.

I thought he was immune to Hypnotick? Unless whatever it uses coming from a different place makes the hypnosis and whatnot stronger this time.

Poor Zed, man.

So did Azmuth add that DNA sample to the Nemetrix, or did Khyber already have it and Azmuth just unlocked it somehow?

Oh wait, I guess Rook didn’t know that. But hadn’t Ben already known that Khyber and Malware were working together?

Gosh, I really like the way Corey says “creation”

So did Ben think that the Omnitrix was broken forever because Malware destroyed Feedback?

Like just the original Omnitrix, or this new one too?

So where are these Mechamorphs flying in from?

I guess Malware just killed them all

Man. Imagine how it must feel for him, coming back to his home, and specifically the device that made him, and using it to get revenge on his father and destroy the beings who he thought didn’t deserve Azmuth’s attention as much as Malware did.

Also how powerful is his eye beam, I guess, to be able to activate explosions all over Galvan B? I still don’t really know how that worked.

I like that they showed Zed escaping, that’s nice

Also Ben just shoves Rook off that thing, I don’t think he deserved that

I still remember every word of this conversation too, thanks.

So I always thought it was “favorite”, but according to the captions it’s “favored”? Interesting.

And the word “father” isn’t in quotation marks here.

I hate that this is canon justification for that one fic, you know the one

And what does Malware taste like, Ben?

I don’t know what they’re talking about, it would be really cool to see an AU where Malware did win and become a living planet

Also “viral attack” my dude, you named him MALWARE, you had this coming!

I like that they used the word “shockwave” to describe what he caused, because of one of Corey’s other most famous roles.

I’m still bitter that they didn’t have Kevin learn more about Malware, and be sympathetic to him.

Why is pocket change the solution for everything?

Again, he emphasizes Ben’s loyalty to Azmuth, which is interesting

If anyone knows about any interviews where Corey talks about Malware or anything involving him working on the show, please let me know about it.

So did Ben literally repress all these memories until now?

Fuck. This is still so good. God, the look on tiny Ben’s face.

So that is the representation of Feedback’s DNA inside Malware, I guess.

Gosh, you can see Chadzmuth running away. Also, ray of doom, motherfuckers.

Once more, Azmuth literally encouraged Ben to use the Helixes to kill his child.

Literally, Ben: “Are we really going to let him keep that?” (referring to Zed), Gwen: “We kept Kevin.”

Also I don’t remember where I said this, or if I ever put it on Tumblr, but I remember writing something at some point about Malware’s team being a dark mirror of Ben’s in a way, with Zed as the Ben equivalent, Khyber as the Rook equivalent, Psychobos as the Gwen equivalent, and Malware as the Kevin equivalent, and that being interesting that these four show up specifically when Ben is without Gwen and Kevin, and just getting used to having Rook around, and I just think that would’ve been really rad if they had gotten to face off all together. Even though I do enjoy how the Showdown two-parter went down in general.

Basic thoughts: Yeah, you can tell that the arc plot is the best part of this season for me personally, and the rest is fine? I think Gone Fishin’ is the only real filler episode here, because the rest do have characters and whatnot that come back later. Again, bottom 3 are still the same, Arrested Development and Bros in Space are both good plot-wise but have annoying villains, I’m not sure what made me not like Many Happy Returns as much as I used to but yeah that one’s lower than it was when I first saw it. And of course, even after watching it many times, I still love the Malware story, even if I think it could’ve been handled a lot better in retrospect.

found a description of them that says they're "small, fierce falcons that use surprise attacks" which is very accurate for radka

damir: rook

they're big, some people think they look mean, they always return to the same area bc it's their home, and their courtship involves the male offering the female food

vanya: peacock

flamboyantly coloured, possess thorns on their legs to fight off competition, and take a look at that eye makeup ;)

miran: spotted nutcracker

they are monogamous, do not migrate, are usually found in harsher climates, and store SO MUCH food for the winter (miran approves of preparedness)

ori: superb lyrebird

known for their excellent vocal mimicry skills, lil bit different from other birds (they can't really fly), fast runners (what ori does away from trouble)

that's all i can think of for now... i'll add more if they occur to me, or if i find the perfect bird in my internet ambling

Thanks for the ask, @m34gs! I am excited to talk about my fics for 2022! I hope you enjoy my answers, friend!!!

1.What's something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out? Would you do it again?

Recently I've been writing snippets, experimenting with ideas that don't quite have a full story, but want to try writing anyways. In my first series of Warming Up (in Snippets) Chapter Ten, The Blue Bottle I experimented and wrote in present tense.

I think it turned out well. I liked the tone and narration Shouichi provided. Somehow, writing in present tense makes me feel more involved in the action as the narrator. I'd absolutely try writing in present tense again!

7. What fic meant the most to you to write?

There are two answers here and I hope no one minds me cheating a little.

The first fic that meant the most for me was my Serial Killer AU SDR2 fic Working Relationship. This fic was a soft redo of an older fic Steal Your Tongue. Any time I revisit ideas I feel a sense of nostalgia in my heart. I remember writing Steal Your Tongue. I remember where I was when I wrote it. To revisit the idea feels like I'm paying homage to an idea. It's a little silly, but in a way it allowed me to see how far I've come as a fanfiction writer.

The second fic that meant the most to me was my first Twisted Wonderland fic, The Small Things that Don't Align. It is always scary to write and post for a new fandom. What are the fans like? What sort of fics do people write about the fandom? Will my ideas stand out? Those thoughts always plague me despite years of writing fanfiction. Of course, I enjoy writing the fic, but my enjoyment is only a percentage of the reason why I write fanfiction. Posting it is a huge part too and I always want that to go over well!

8. What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?

Without a doubt the fic that made me the happiest was my second Twisted Wonderland fic, Comfortable Bed(s). I was so excited to write that fic I wrote majority of it one Saturday afternoon/evening. All the while I was internally Panicking because here I was in my second Twisted Wonderland fic and I was writing Every Main Dorm Member. Still, the sheer joy of writing all the scenarios and ordering which dorm went next was such a delight. I'm very happy with the fic!

25. What's something you want to write in 2023?

In 2023 I want to write:

-More Twisted Wonderland. Yeah, I'm deep into the fandom now and I really enjoy writing for it. In particular I hope to write a Vil/Rook fic, but I always enjoy writing Yuu ft. The dorms.

-A Bleach fic. I've been a fan of Bleach since the first episode dropped all those years ago. I actually attempted to write a Bleach fic in 2015-2016, but I never posted what I wrote. However, now with TYBW arc animated, I might find the right Bleach fic idea.

-A multi-chaptered FE Fates fic. Honestly, the last time was in 2021 with Searching (and Falling) Through Dimensions. I have to do something else. Not sure what yet, but I'd like to try another long term project.

-Speaking of FE Fates, I want to write more Anankos/Trio fics. I want to do this because I'm deep in this silly ship and I need to drag more people down with me.

-Another post SDR2 multi chaptered fic. Listen. The last time I took a deep dive into the cast's psyches over multiple chapters was in 2016. I have different ideas and interpretations. I have a better grasp of the characters. I think 2023 might be the year I write this multi-chaptered fic.

-Lastly, maybe, just maybe if I get permission I can write at least one (1) idea from the vast list of Bar AU ideas. Because we call the AU "our AU" but I've done nothing except bounce ideas and add to that secret USB drive.

This is the music video of Best Song Ever from the 2002 movie Frozen. The song was originally performed by NSYNC. But the vocals look like girl group BTS. Before the song starts, Jack Frost enters the party. When Jack opens the door, the blizzard blows onto him. Later, Jack Frost enters the party room and the door closes. All of a sudden, The people look at him knowing that he crashed the party. Just then, He flicked out a coin which then goes into the jukebox which then selects the celebration song Best Song Ever by NSYNC. Suddenly, A silhouette of a human person walks in revealing to be Barney who is a humanoid person wearing a blue Princess Peach dress from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Luckily, He was wearing a hoodie in which he was a ninja. Later, He takes off his hoodie and shows off. It was revealed to be Barney. Barney yells out “Let’s Party!” and Best Song Ever by NSYNC plays. Onwards, the photographer enters Resorts World New York. After the photographer enters Resorts World New York, He takes some crazy pictures. First, He takes some pictures of Andy with the Smosh crew, then the Rainbow Pride boy band army and the dancing princesses. Then later the crazy gaming of Hot Wheels: Turbo Racing and then the wacky photo of the Smosh crew, the boy band army and the dancing Princesses. Luckily, DJ Marty McFly has arrived in the party just like last time where he meets Andy when he tests out the XBOX Christmas Special. Just then, Fat Albert and the Sensational Seven, Rick Deckard, Sapper Morton, Eldon Tyrell and Rook Blonko enter the party, including Doc and Drew Saturday. Luckily, Jagged Stone and the AC/DC crew arrived in the nick of time. Also, Brian O’Connor, Sean Boswell, Tej Parker, Ethan Hunt and Nathan Drake have entered the party. The music video contains Yan Naing Lee, James Carter, Mike Lowrey, Marcus Burnett, Martin Riggs, Roger Murtaugh and The Smosh crew preparing for the party and causing mayhem in the restaurant and even watching the view of New York and even playing with firecrackers. In the party room, The mascots Barbie Roberts, Ken Carson, Princess Aurora, Teddy Bear, Long John Silver enter the party. Later, Alix takes the snow rocket from Jack Frost, Then launches the rocket causing the rocket to explode and make a snowy confetti with snowflakes. Luckily, The people are celebrating just like in the Wonderful Love music video. The music video contains a New Year scene where all of the characters celebrate together just like in the Wonderful Love music video. At the end of the song. Photographer David LaChapelle sets up the camera and Frozen director Steven Spielberg prepares for the photoshoot. During the photoshoot, The Rainbow Pride Boy Band Army Members smile, then Jack Frost, Brian O’Connor and Dominic Toretto, then the younger version of Barbie and Ken including the kid version of Bounce Patrol and the extra Rainbow Pride boy band army members includng the female Miraculous Ladybug characters in their party outfits, then the Bravo All-Stars, and then all characters from the movie Frozen including the Frozen crew except for Nirvana, The Vicious Six band, The Seven Deadly Sins band and Captain Jack Sparrow and the Fearsome Four band. Luckily, There was an icy picture frame with snowflakes, the text at the top has the motto of the movie Frozen, The motto or slogan of the movie Frozen says “Together, All for One and One for All” located at the top, and the text says “Coming Soon in Theaters, December 25 in Dolby Digital 3D” at the bottom. It also includes a special text at the bottom right corner that says “Happy Holidays from DreamWorks Frozen”. The picture frame contains all characters from the movie Frozen. The poster at the end looks the same in the Wonderful Love music video.

Ripon Workhouse Saturday 25th February 2023

We made our first visit to Ripon Workhouse for 2023 and what a jam packed evening it was, we had a full house of amazing guests and it seemed the spirits of Ripon Workhouse were happy to have us back this year.

In the Boardroom, situated in the Vagrants Block, the first vigil started off a little bit quiet but after our guests warmed up and began to gel as a group, the activity began to flow. The K2 meter on the long table, in the middle of the room, kept going off and lighting up to a solid Orange, this continued all through the vigil, the team checked the guests and other team members phones, checked for electronic interferences under the table and from above and even swapped K2 meters over and still they had the same result. This could not be explained but was fascinating. A Mel Meter alarmed out near a team members arm, we looked for any reason for this to happen, no jewellery or anything was identified that could have set this off so was another unusual phenomena. The MagnaVex lit up red on a number of occasions. Guests reported feeling as though their hair was being pulled, touches were also reported and taps and bangs heard from different areas of the room. During the last 30 minutes of the vigil, everyone reported hearing what sounded like footsteps walking around the room and in certain areas, as if someone was stood watching us as we investigated. There were also reports of whistling sounds heard and at one point the floor seemed to feel as though it was shaking. A growl type sound was heard very close to a team members ear which made her feel very uneasy. A few moments later this same sound was heard from the rest of the group coming from the middle of the table where the guests were sitting, this made everyone feel uncomfortable. When calling out names that could possibly identify who the spirit was, it seemed to respond when the name Fredrick was called out. Another team stated that they heard loads of tapping and the table began moving on request and lifted up on one occasion.

In the Nurses Station/Cells, also situated in the Vagrants Block, there were banging noises heard coming from the table, a guest reported what they believed looked like a grey blob moving across the floor just outside the nurses room. A shadow was also seen in this area, the guest had also mentioned that she felt as though someone was crawling along the floor. The Cat Ball went off on a number of occasions in this area signifying that something or someone was interacting with it. The guests decided that they would have a go with the Necrophonics App, on this one of the team members name was heard by the guests and the name “Owen” was also heard. When asked who was touching the Ball, a voice came through the App saying “Me” and then the ball continued to flash. There were also reports that it sounded like someone was walking around the table and down the cells. Around the Bed in the nurses station, there was scratching sounds heard, however on closer inspection, there wasn’t anything to cause this. Another team reported that they had the table moving backwards and forwards, and also moving towards each guest by name as they asked. While they were sat at the table, they all heard clear footsteps walking down the cell corridor – to which everybody turned round at the same time to look. Some of the guests headed into the mortuary and managed to get the small wooden chair moving by using their energy and putting fingertips onto it. In another team a guest said he saw a figure dressed in white move across doorway in nurses room, the Cat ball began lighting up on the bed and in the bath area, the Electronics ball, K2, Rook and Mel Meter all went off in sequence.

In the Main Block, the team investigated the corridor at the back of the building, in this area the table moved when the guests were taking part in a table tapping activity. One of the guests seemed to be struck with a bad bout of cramp in his leg for no apparent reason. Two of the guests decided to go up one of the staircases which they felt a presence was residing, however one of them struggles as he wanted to go up but he felt as though his body was telling him not to, he eventually went up and stood there with another guest. They described feeling uneasy and then one said he felt as though his coat was being tugged. A team leader took photographs and caught what could be considered a orb like image. This photograph can be seen on our tumblr and twitter account. When taking part in an Ouija board, the battery operated light on the table looked as though a spark had flicked off of it and hit the side of the glass. We all saw it and couldn’t explain it as there is no way a battery powered candle can spark. There was footstep sounds heard coming from all around the area too. The Ouija moved around the table to letters, however no one was able to make any sense of it. Later on a Team Member went to the toilet and as she came out and was talking to another Team Member, she saw a dark shadow figure behind them which sent them both into a panic as it had shocked them. What was even more interesting is that the Team Member said she had waited for the other one as she felt like there was a spirit around and didn’t want to leave them down in the area alone. In this area another team were investigating and reported having the Cat balls and Rempods going off on the stairs, and one of the guests sat at the top of the stairs on her own and was convinced she could hear footsteps walking up the stairs towards her.

In the Living Room Area, there were a lot of taps and bangs heard. There was also an unexplained bright Blue light witnessed by everyone present that looked as though a lightening bolt had flashed across the ceiling. No one could replicate it or could work out where it had come from. Another team reported that everyone who sat in one particular armchair felt uneasy, icy cold (much more so than everyone else in room). A few guest also reported in this area a feeling as if heavy hands were pressing down on their shoulders and one guest said she felt as though a child was holding her hand, also a group was convinced they could hear footsteps coming from the top floor above the living room, however there was no other teams or living people up in that area. One guest decided to go off into a lone vigil at the bottom of the staircase, here he said he had heard a whistle however there were no other groups close by.

In the Small parlour room, there were reports of a childlike cry being heard. One guest was convinced she was having her clothes tugged constantly and another guest had to leave the area as she felt what she described as something demonic breathing on her face.

In the classrooms, half of a group were given a pendulum each to us as a means to make contact with spirit, when they started asking questions, they were all getting 100% the same answers. The information they received claimed at first they had Harriet who was looking after the children, then a Mr Donaldson came through who claimed he was not a nice person and had treated the children quite badly (in more ways than one) It was quite interesting as all pendulums were changing direction at same time in response to questions. There was also reports of the Rempod, Cat balls and Flux going off in this area as well as temperature deviation fluctuations and a couple of taps on the table.

Dorothy Mathews Walker died to this life October 14, 2022. The funeral service for Mrs. Walker will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022 at Fort Valley United Methodist Church, 301 West Church Street, Fort Valley with the Reverend R. Scott Walker, son of Mrs. Walker, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, 720 South Camellia Boulevard in Fort Valley.

Mrs. Walker was born on Dec. 29, 1921 in Fort Valley to Robert and Edna Mathews. She graduated from Fort Valley High School in 1939 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Bob Jones University. In 1946 she married Dr. Elbert H. Walker, Th.D. The couple lived in Florence, S.C., where he was pastor of Calvary Baptist Church from 1949-1957.

In service to others, as she was for much of her life, Mrs. Walker joined her husband in appointment as Southern Baptist missionaries in the Philippines from 1957-1965. Dr. and Mrs. Walker taught at the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary in the city of Baguio. Dr. Walker died tragically in 1965, and with her two young children, Mrs. Walker returned to Fort Valley, where she worked as an elementary school teacher until 1972.

After teaching, Mrs. Walker was employed by the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) of the Georgia Baptist Convention in Atlanta, where she served for many years. She also became Children’s Minister of First Baptist Church of Pensacola, Fla. before her retirement.

Mrs. Walker retired in Savannah as a proud, happy grandmother and was lovingly called “Mama Dot” by her five grandchildren. She was a member and ordained deacon of First Baptist Church of Savannah. Mrs. Walker also lived in Monroe in her retirement and was active and engaged in the ministry of First Baptist Church Monroe as well as the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

At nearly 101 years old, Dot lived a wonderful life and was adored by her family and many friends. She was committed to faithful service of the church wherever she was and is remembered fondly, particularly as she lovingly and dutifully raised her two children for many years after her husband passed away.

She is survived by her children R. Scott Walker (Beth), of Macon and Donna Walker Mixson (Mike) of Ellijay and grandchildren Drew Walker (Katie Alice) of Columbia, S.C., Luke Walker (Jessica) of Atlanta, Jodi Walker of Asheville, N.C., Dylan Mixson (Lauren) of Dahlonega and Ryan Mixson of Edinburgh, Scotland as well as four great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

Her family wishes to thank the directors and staff of The Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville, Ga. for their dedicated love and care of Mrs. Walker in her final years. Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.
