— BAKUGOU:

katsuki is the best, obviously. no but he makes sure he spends as much time at home as possible and packs their lunch every single day. also he does that thing when they're play-fighting he gives up really easily and boasts about them and their for the next hour. he keeps any and everything the give him, from the handmade mugs they make for father's day to every single drawing they make in school. he has a whole wall in his office that's covered in sloppy stick figures. the sweetest and well-mannered kid in the world, too. every time someone meets them their just so taken aback.

— MIDORIYA:

izuku is such a protective and proud parent. literally anything and everything your child does is an accomplishment. gets so fond whenever he notices a combination of each of you in them, whether in appearance or in tastes and behaviors, it just matters so much to him. he gets so giddy whenever they get excited about seeing him in a fight on tv. izuku spoils them so much, they become one of those kids who gets carried around until they're ten. but it doesn't matter because they're the easiest kid in the world, an angel from day one. he makes sure he's home for dinner ever night and when they start school he's always the one who drops them off.

— TODOROKI:

shouto is the most adoring parent ever, literally you and your kid mean the world to him. he's incredibly pliant with them, letting them put little braids in his hair or practice face painting with a content little smile. he gets so warm whenever your kid says they're proud of him after seeing a fight on tv, holds them while they ramble about 'how cool!' he is with a small smile. your kid becomes one of those whose so closed off and a little mean to everyone whose not you two, clings onto your legs and leans away from people with incredibly curt greetings for a three year old.

— KIRISHIMA:

eijirou always wanted kids and has always been amazing with them, handles everything so easily and smiley. he helps raise the most affectionate kid ever, always scooping you up into hugs when he gets home or helping build pillow forts just so you can all cuddle up together and watch movies. goes out of his way to ask them about their interests and learn about them, picking up a book on dinosaurs because they mentioned them once or spending a whole night watching nature documentaries because they got really into sting rays.

— MINA:

she's so earnest and excited. she's always been someone whose naturally good with children and them being your kids just makes it all the better. she treats your kid a little bit like a doll, just thinks they look so cute in everything and spends too much money buying tiny shirts and shoes, but she's also so good with any and all emotions, an easy confidant. carves so much time out of her schedule for her family, insists on little family date nights which range from movie nights in a pillow fort or dinner at a cute little cafe she found while patrolling.

— MOMO:

yaoyorozu is such a competent parent, honestly the best. she's, while a little unsure of herself at times, is so caring. plans out cute little family weekends and matching- non-tacky- outfits. lets them test out a bunch of complicated braids and hairstyles on her and wears them for the rest of the day, praising them whenever you compliment it.

— KAMINARI:

denki is excited and trying his absolute best. he's not naturally good with kids, most of the time just following whatever you do, but he's also the best at keeping them happy and his always the first to swoop them up if they start crying. he spends so much time cramped in little chairs at tea parties and helps them make an incredibly intricate invitation to the next one for you.

— HAWKS:

keigo is so good with kids and is very excited about the idea of your kids. he's the biggest skin-ship enthusiast, spends most of his time with his cheek pressed against theirs. spends most of his patrols badgering you for pictures or updates on what you're both doing throughout the day and whenever he's stuck doing paperwork insists on sitting on a video call with you. literally keeps every single gift every given to him, which is usually poorly made bead bracelets or shiny little rocks, and has a whole drawer full of them which looks strikingly similar to the drawer you have full of his gifts to you. makes it his personal mission to have the happiest kid in the world, which he succeeds in, and makes sure they're always smiling.

— DABI:

touya is naturally good with children, even if he actively tries not to be. so of course when it comes to your kids, he adores them. he's incredibly willing to do whatever they want him to do: crouches down for tea parties or lets them pin his bangs back with little coloured clips or paint his nails bright colours. he also feeds into their whims so often, lets them sleep in the bed with you nearly every night. he makes sure to keep up with their interests too, spending a whole day gluing glow in the dark stars to their ceiling or helping you paint a ocean mural on their wall. he loves them so much and does his best to foster an open and loving relationship between you all.

DS9 4x16 Accession thoughts (I’m re-watching, so beware spoilers for future episodes!) [8 July ‘23]

I love how offended Julian is about how much tidying Miles hasn't done - I guess he offered to help and hadn't realised how much work he'd have to do XD

"You should have seen it before." Mood. That was always my sentence wherever mum came to pick me up from uni XD

Does Julian actually want to help? That was a sudden swing to "it's a shame to pack it all away" xD

Oh, I thought this was the plant killing episode where Keiko gets secretly possessed.

"Daddy, I have a little bother." So cute!

"I don't see it as a contradiction." "I don't understand." "That's the thing about faith. If you don't have it, you can't understand it, and if you do, no explanation is necessary." This is really close to my heart as an ex-believer. I really like Kira's attitude to her faith. Idk

"Farmers have become politicians..." Ohhhh.... I'd remembered about Kira's struggle, but not what that would mean for Shakaar and their entire political system.

Kira's shaky breath and hesitation to clap.. Ohhh...

"If Bajor returns to the D'jarra system, I have no doubt that its petition to join the Federation will be rejected." "Kai Winn and I have already discussed it. We're willing to make that sacrifice in order to follow the will of the Prophets." Ugh, of course Winn's involved in this...

"You don't have to get up for me." "You're Ih'valla. I'm Te'nari." Yikes

"Maybe you never realised this, Captain, but we would've tried to do whatever you asked of us when you were Emissary, no matter how difficult it seemed. I'd better get to Ops." She's so subdued. Oh, Kira.

"An excess of neuropeptides. I can give you an inhibitor to make sure it never happens again. [Sisko nods, and Julian goes to get it.] Of course, if I do, you risk never finding out." This is like the reverse of Sisko's vision episode in Season 5

"So, any idea what they might have been trying to tell you?" I think Julian's really, genuinely curious here.

"Sure. That I have too many neuropeptides rolling around in my head." Heh, and that smile

"I suppose Julian has one too." Your wife knows you, O'Brien.

"Wanna try for twins?" "I don't think it works that way." XD

I know looking longingly at his costume shows his wish for his own free time... but it also reads a lot like longing for Julian ngl

"I'm sorry. The last thing I want to do is add to your problems, but this is something I have to do." Ohhh, she's blinking back tears as she says this, I hate this so much for her.

"I don't doubt I can find someone to fill your post.. But to replace you?" OH, HE'S CRYING TOO THESE GUYSSSS

"Chief! Excuse me!" As soon as Julian sees Miles he rushes over. It can't have been THAT LONG since you saw him??

"You and I were evenly matched" - wellll, no you weren't. That was a ruse on Julian's part. Sorry.

"Actually, I was hoping maybe-" his awkward hand gestures :3 sweetheart

I can't stop watching Julian's face in this scene. When Quark reminds him "no refunds", he looks hopefully for a second at Miles. And his expression is so sad thereafter, his laugh at Miles' joke so lacklustre. Guys, I just have feelings.

"You killed him because of his D'jarra?" "I had to." My goodness. Fricking hell. I did not remember this getting that awful!

"We have to go to the wormhole and ask the Prophets." Solid plan, actually

"I was the first!" Heh, I knew they wouldn't understand first. Not an argument you're gonna win with them

"Why did you send me into the future?" "For the Sisko." Love how the episode just says yes, this was all for Sisko's character development

"I promised I wouldn't say anything, but it's about Julian." "What about him?" "I ran into him the other day and he seemed depressed. He'd never admit it, but he really misses you." This part is MY FAV

"I'm a lucky man." The way she nods and winks <3 Keiko is a queen and I wish we saw more of her, not her-and-Miles

"I want you to have this. It's an original Kira Nerys. Could be verrrry valuable one day." "I hear she didn't make many." Their laughs <3

"We were wondering if there's any chance you could come and give her your blessing." Kira's glance over to him, not quite sure how he'll respond, but his genuine smile and "I'd be happy to" ❤❤

Aww, Sisko covering up his smile at the end there. I love it.

top ten anime! i feel like i remember the last one and im curious to see how things have or haven't shaken up

idk if I ever did a last one, but fine jeez enough people asked.

My criteria changes with these every time. I'm trying to go with what shows had the most impact on me or were the most memorable, regardless of objective quality. A lot of these aren't even rated 10/10 on my MAL. Any show with multiple seasons I'm just listing as a combined whole.

10) Yozakura Quartet

I have complicated feelings about this show. I don't think I've changed my number rating on anything else as often as I have with YZQ. There are objectively bad things about this show, and they apply to the manga as well. The fanservice is almost utterly needless and distracting. The story is on a time limit yet things constantly meander and detour into filler.

Yet despite all that, it's a show I can't stop thinking about. I'm not one to be taken in by flashy animation. Good animation does not equate a good show, it just means a good budget. Yet YZQ is one of the few shows that just stunned me over and over with the smoothness of the animation and smartness of the direction. The last episode of the Tsuki ni Naku OVA is still one of the most jaw dropping episodes of anything I've ever watched in my life, and that was years ago.

It's Suzuhito Yasuda's passion project more or less, even though it doesn't sell very well, and I can't help but respect that. The characters are cute and all likable. Even the villains turned good guys just always fit snugly into the cast perfectly. The powers and fights are fun and I hope Tatsunoko gets off their ass and adapts more of it. 9) Haruchika

There's a lot in Haruchika that you can find in plenty of other shows. A loud excitable protagonist, a snarky deuteragonist at her side, a high school setting, and a concert band. A lot of people actually tried to put Haruchika in competition with Hibike Euphonium when they both aired. But they're completely different shows.

It's hard to describe the charm of this show without just using the word charming again. Chika is just one of those characters that I could watch all day long. She's more than just energetic and a little dumb. The show goes out of its way to establish a dichotomy between her and Haru. He's extremely smart but has trouble getting along with others, while she's pretty brash but has just immense emotional intelligence. She's always kind, comforting, and ready to be there for her friends. One of the best lines in the show is Haru telling Chika that he may have solved all their friends' problems, but she "worked out everyone's hearts." They're a good duo and the chemistry between her and all the new friends she makes is fantastic.

Beyond that, some of the topics this show covers with grace are just, almost unmatched for something of this genre and lightheartedness. Being adopted, loss of a loved one, disabilities, PTSD, unrequited love, depression, and isolation. It's just one of many shows everyone should check out and give an honest chance.

8) Bubuki Buranki

I'll try not to rehash all the stuff I posted about before but, Bubuki Buranki is just a fun, earnest, and enjoyable show. It was SANZIGEN's 10th anniversary show, so it was made without money in mind and just the raw passion and love of creativity on display warms my heart. The studio brought on some really big industry names and I can't imagine it was produced at anything but a loss. Yet they made 2 seasons despite financial setbacks, simply because they promised themselves and everyone watching that they would. So much about it inspires me, from the actual content of the show to its production.

There's some clunky humor at times and some of the ideas can feel half-finished and get discarded over time. But there's so much it does right that every time I dredge up my old posts with like 20 notes I just wanna grab all my followers and tell them, just check it out, please.

The action is stellar, the setpieces and backdrops are phenomenal, the music is incredible, the voice acting performances are masterful, the mech designs are so fuckin cool, the characters are diverse and come from all over the globe, they're lovable in their own ways, and even some of the villains make you want to care about them. This was the best-looking CG animated show before Houseki no Kuni aired. Some of you reading might not have even realized it was CG based on that gif, because it's so smooth that I didn't even realized until partway through the first episode. Give it a try, cause I'm never going to shut up about it.

7) Macross Delta

This may come as a surprise to some people, but I'm not really that much of a fan of idol shows. I have tried but cannot get myself invested in big name classics like Love Live or idolm@ster. Music shows just need that extra bit of spice for me, and Macross Delta brings it.

Macross is obviously known for this, but the blend of music and space fighter jet mechs just works extremely well. Delta respects both premises equally, giving equal weight to a performer's power to touch hearts and minds that it does to a soldier's power to both hurt and protect. Freyja and Hayate respect each other and everything that makes the other who they are.

As you might expect, Macross Delta's music is extremely high tier and for myself, there was not a single song I didn't immediately love. I have not stopped listening to the music since the show first aired until today.

Beyond that, the characters are extremely good. Freyja is easily one of the most charming and lovable female leads in all of anime, complete with lovingly crafted expression work that brings her to life. The animation is very well-done from simple conversations to dance numbers. Check it out if you want a wonderfully entertaining scifi music adventure.

6) Re:Creators

Re:Creators is another show with flaws. I don't agree with everything the story does. Some things I actually really dislike. Yet, when I started it while it was airing, the premise grabbed me. I told myself that there were several things I wanted the show to do with it, and sure enough, it hit every single one of those marks like it was reading my mind.

I think a pattern with a lot of anime I like is whether they feel confident in their premise. I think even a bad show can be elevated if it commits to what it wants to do. Re:Creators is about, well, creating. Everything that happens feels straight from the hearts of people that have put blood, sweat, and tears into creating art. The directions it goes with meta-commentary on creating just boggles my mind. So many episodes went in directions I've just never seen other anime even attempt. It's hard to explain without absolute spoiling the twists and turns.

The directing, music, acting, animation, and overall presentation of Re:Creators is really good, a show that honestly should be experienced in the highest resolution you can find. I also think it’s a must-watch for anyone that has ever wanted to write, draw, animate, or do anything of that nature.

5) Zombieland Saga

Zombieland Saga is one of the funniest shows I’ve ever watched. It is one of the most entertaining shows I’ve ever watched. It’s rare that a show comes along that manages to continually exceed your expectations episode after episode.

As I mentioned, I don’t take to idol shows very easily. ZLS has tremendous strengths with its premise, characters, music, and humor that I think will make anyone enjoy it, even if they don’t like idol shows. It is first and foremost a very fun and enjoyable show. I have more trouble breaking down why comedies are great, so forgive me here, but, check it out with an open mind and I think you’ll have a fantastic time.

4) Durarara

I’m thankful that DRRR’s strengths are so obvious because that makes this entry easy for me. DRRR is one of the best told stories I’ve ever watched. The ability to juggle dozens of individual characters with individual motivations, scatter their stories and daily lives across episodes and entire seasons, narrate them all from different perspectives, slowly weave them all back together again, and have it come out satisfying every. single. time. is nothing short of masterful. It’s a show difficult not to binge, because you always want more of the story, you always want to see how it all fits together, because it always will, and it’ll always satisfy you. It’s a long show but worth every single minute spent on it.

3) Chaika The Coffin Princess

Chaika is a show near and dear to my heart. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to find another fantasy show that would make me feel the same way. There have been gems, but there is only ever been one Chaika.

This show has everything I could ask for from an adventure anime: A cast of characters with incredible chemistry, thrilling action, interesting worldbuilding, a beautiful aesthetic, gorgeous music, really good humor, and an engaging story. It touches on deeper themes of war, peace, love, injustice, belonging, and friendship. But at the same time, the basic elements of the anime itself are so easy to enjoy without ever giving those themes any thought. It is simply fun and entertaining, but if you look for that depth, you will find it.

This is easily one of the best anime made by Studio Bones, and despite a forcibly shortened second season, it’s an absolute gem. Any fan of Chaika is a friend of mine.

2) Gatchaman Crowds

Gatchaman Crowds is the greatest superhero story ever told. A show that has made me a better person, a person who wants to believe a better world is possible, we just need to take care of each other using things unique to each of us. Governments will not save humanity, superheroes will not save humanity, technology will not save humanity. Only by trusting in, loving, and helping one another will we ever survive. It all sounds too optimistic, but optimism is our only hope. You cannot try and make things better if you do not believe they can get better.

Hajime Ichinose is a wonderful, intelligent, unabashedly weird, incredibly loud, naive, and optimistic hero. She perfectly demonstrates that optimism isn’t simply sitting around and hoping things get better, it means taking action, breaking down barriers, acting unconventionally, ignoring precedent, and most of all, never losing hope. There will be setbacks, people will do bad things, you will fail sometimes, but do not let the world break you down and never lose sight of why you should help others: It’s the right thing to do

Gatchaman Crowds is a show worth watching, and worth watching again and again. It’s not only entertaining but fills me with happiness, determination, optimism, and motivation. Whether you check it out because of my mushy ramblings here, or because of the stellar characters, animation, music, and action, or you never check it out at all, always remember: When the time comes to help someone, just do it. That’s What Heroes Do.

1) Monogatari Series

The Monogatari Series is disgusting, perverted, violent, often triggering, verbose, extremely long, confusing, weird, difficult to watch, and difficult to recommend. It is also my favorite anime series of all time. It is both writer Nisio Isin’s and studio Shaft’s magnum opus. I have not seen an anime with so many serious flaws yet such powerful strengths that the good outweighs the bad so incredibly.

I don’t like all of Nisio’s works, I don’t think I even like most of them. I think some of his works are downright bad or boring. Yet the absolutely overwhelmingly excellent character writing on display in Monogatari has earned him my eternal respect. I struggle to find characters written with such weirdness and yet such depth and emotion. Every new arc brings out a new facet of every character involved.

The writing is highly elevated by Studio Shaft’s adaptation. If there is one anime you could call “weird,” this is it. It’s directing is almost nonsensical at times, interpretive, bizarre, unnecessarily complex, frankly hostile to the senses at points, and yet it makes for an entirely unique experience. There is frankly no other anime on Earth with the same feeling as Monogatari.

I already know Monogatari isn’t for everyone. There are parts I hate, parts I wish I could rip out or rewrite. There are parts that make me uncomfortable to think about. But I accept it for all its flaws. It’s made me laugh and cry and feel excited and think deeply about myself. I wouldn’t be the same person without it.

heyy! i saw what you wrote about aro/ace people and it means so much to me that you acknowledge us honeslty:) i wanted to make a request if you feel like writing it. i love romantic fics for valentines but i was wondering if you could write something where reg and leo spend the day together in valentines (bc i think of reg as aro-ace and i feel like frienship is just as important as romantic relationships and i think leo probably thinks that too). like leo tells the boys that he wants to spend the day with reg bc they're really good friends and of course finnlo has no problem with that. and leo can be with his boys later like a dinner or smt (and maybe they spent the entire day planning a surprise for leo bc he wasn't there)

Regulus lined up his shot and tossed it—the peanut sailed through the air, bounced off the edge of the woman’s handbag, and fell inside without her so much as blinking.

Leo sighed heavily. “Shit.”

“How many is that for me, now?” Ten.

Leo checked the notes app on his phone. “Ten, not that anyone’s counting. My turn.”

Regulus looked around the busy street and swung his legs; the café stools were tall enough that both his and Leo’s feet were off the ground. “See the lady with the hat? Throw three at the brim, and if she checks for rain, I’ll buy you chocolate.”

“Yes.” Leo grinned as he picked three peanuts out of their bowl and aimed. The first one caught the brim’s edge; the second hit her shoulder and both boys averted their eyes, acting casual when she glanced around. The final peanut landed properly on her hat and Regulus held his breath as she frowned, then looked up at the sky with her hand out.

“Nice,” he whispered, fist-bumping Leo.

“So that’s ten boxes of Sweethearts for you and…” He quickly counted the tallies on his phone. “Three boxes of chocolate for me. I still don’t know how you eat chalk and say it’s good.”

“It’s not chalk!” Regulus defended, throwing a peanut at him. Leo, being an infuriatingly talented goalie, caught it and popped it in his mouth. “It’s sugar, and it’s delicious.”

Leo shook his head as they stood up and headed for the door, leaving a tip under their empty mugs. “You confuse me on so many levels.”

The snow had stopped the day before, but it was still cold enough that their breath steamed and small snowdrifts lined the sidewalk; Leo kicked them every few steps, lighting up with delight at the quiet poof each time. A few frantic men with roses and chocolate tapped their feet in the checkout lines when they entered the store and Regulus rolled his eyes.

“Hey, there’s one for each of you,” Regulus pointed out as Leo carefully chose three heart-shaped boxes of chocolate off the endless shelves.

Leo snorted. “Yeah, they’re not getting any of this.”

“Tremzy’s going to fight you for some.”

“I’ll put it on the highest shelf and watch him jump.”

Regulus gave him an appraising look. “Alright, Knut, alright. That’s cold.”

“Do you think Dumo’s got extra space for when they kick me out for not sharing?” he asked, tossing ten boxes of Sweethearts into their basket.

“I’m not sharing a room with you, that’s for damn sure.”

Leo shrugged. “At least you won’t steal my chocolate.”

They headed to the self-checkout after grabbing a few more necessities—Leo picked up small teddy bears for his boys, each with a cheesy love pun stitched into the belly, while Regulus grabbed a box of kids’ cardboard valentines to sign and stuff into Sirius’ mailbox later that evening. If he had extra, he could decorate the front window as well.

“Thanks for hanging out with me today,” he said, sparing Leo a quick glance.

His eyebrows pitched in confusion. “Well, yeah, we’ve been planning this for ages.”

“Still. It’s Valentine’s Day and your boys are at home—”

“—probably doing something ridiculous to surprise me. Thank you for saving me from shenanigans.” Leo nudged his shoulder, and despite his joking tone, his face was earnest.

Regulus cracked a smile. “And the chocolate.”

“Especially the chocolate.” Leo threw one of the Sweetheart boxes at him and he nearly fumbled it. “You would be the worst goalie, Jesus Christ. Come on, I wanna get home before it starts snowing again.”

“Will you help me sign all these?” Regulus asked, holding the Ninja Turtle valentines up as they walked out of the store. “There are 60 of them and I’ll need some extra height to stick them to Sirius’ window.”

Leo’s grin was downright devilish. “Abso-fucking-lutely.”

I played FE3H with Japanese audio (Dimitri and Kageyama Tobio are voiced by the same person and that makes me happy, you see), so sometimes I watch LPs in English and get surprised because that’s not how I expected the characters to sound at all. Like I love Chris Hackney and I think his post-timeskip Dimitri has a rawness that isn’t quite there in Ishikawa Kaito’s performance, but his Academy Phase Dimitri sounds so posh lmao??

When I mentioned this to a friend, they asked me to rate the three lords according to how polite their speech is and I went with Edelgard > Claude > Dimitri. Which isn’t really that surprising post-timeskip, but this is true for Academy Phase also. With some exceptions.

Ofc this doesn’t take into account their speech patterns and delivery (like their tone of voice), and I’m going to talk about that more, but mostly I’m focusing on Dimitri because I think the way he talks is very interesting. And it’s not because I’m biased and love him best. Not at all.

In passing tho, I want to say Sothis is another favourite. She uses the personal pronoun ‘washi’, which is the anime shortcut for ‘old man’ and the way she talks is honestly very old person (the kind who is kinda crabby and embarrassing and yells at kids in her lawn and not the kind of old that you’d expect to suddenly drop ‘thee’ and ‘thou’), but her voice obviously matches how she looks so the contrast is very cute?

Anyway, back to the three lords:

Edelgard uses 私 (watashi) and あなた (anata) and her sentence construction is fairly polite. But she’s also very straightforward and (dare I say) bold–which fits an Emperor, but is also kind of rude otherwise.

Claude uses 俺 (ore) and あんた (anta) and he’s just as laid back as those pronouns he uses. He talks like you’re close friends, which is ofc also rude in formal settings, but we’re not Lorenz. Post-timeskip he calls Byleth 兄弟, but it makes sense for them to translate that to ‘friend’ instead. (I mean, ‘sibling’ just sounds awkward.)

Dimitri uses 俺 (ore) and お前 (omae), which means his ‘you’ is more informal than Claude’s. But in contrast to Edelgard, Dimitri is seldom straightforward to the point of rudeness. Idk how to explain it, but let’s just say Edelgard would demand (politely), while Dimitri would ask (informally).

But that’s Dimitri on average. Even before post-timeskip and his infamous 失せろ*, it’s worth noting that Dimitri’s speech patterns change depending on who he’s talking to.

*translated as ‘Go away’ in the English, but I think ‘Get lost’ captures the mood better. Most sites translate it to ‘get out of my sight!’, which is also good but is kinda wordy. I’ve seen so many Dimileth fanart focusing on this moment–失せろ made an impact on so many fans, lemme tell you lmaoo.

The first time we hear him speak is when he asks Jeralt for help, and he’s on full keigo mode:

Keigo is Not my strong suit so tbh I’ll have a harder time understanding him if he keeps this up, but notice below that he uses 私 while speaking of himself (well 私たち, since he’s with Claude and Edelgard).

He also does the whole です and ます thing, which is the formal form that we first encounter when we’re beginning to learn Japanese. He speaks like this with Alois too–and most likely other people of rank–but not those who are sworn to the Kingdom, which makes sense since he’s their prince. For example, he begins speaking in keigo to Gilbert during their C support, but once they’ve established that Gilbert is Gustave, he switches to his usual informal speech. I don’t remember him ever speaking formally to Rodrigue.

Jeralt is an older dude who’s the leader of a group of mercenaries, so Dimitri goes for politeness, but he drops this like just a few minutes later, when he’s talking to Byleth:

He addresses Byleth as お前, the same way he addresses Claude and Edelgard (who are his peers), drops です for だ

and switches from 私 to his usual 俺.

*Edited to include Ashen Wolves DLC info: Dimitri uses 君 (kimi) for Edelgard, when he asked her about her hair colour. Very interesting, and I’ll let you decide what that means).

I er, don’t have screencaps for this, but he will switch to keigo when he finds out Byleth has accepted a teaching position at the Officers Academy. (Like when you speak to the house leaders and ask about the students.) If you choose Blue Lions, the cut scene will address how they speak to each other–Annette will be all ‘Oh no! I was speaking to you earlier like you were one of the students!’ and Sylvain will go ‘It’s fine if the professor doesn’t mind, I mean, Dimitri is our prince and he’s fine with us being informal, right?’

This pretty much stands on its own in English, but with the context of the Japanese language, these people are actually talking about how they were using informal speech around Byleth their professor earlier and are they allowed to continue doing so?

If you choose another house, Dimitri will start speaking in keigo during your first exploration and then go ‘I sound too stiff?? Well then [switches to informal] I’ll speak like this.’ Implying I guess that Byleth was all ‘You don’t need to speak like that’ while he was talking.

I think it’s really interesting how this is a thing, like there’s Edelgard and her ‘you should never take things at face value’ and Claude with his schemes, but then it’s the earnest Dimitri who does this whole ‘public facade’ thing.

Byleth’s assessment that some darkness is hiding behind that sincerity is kind of dramatic, but I do think the game does a good job of reinforcing that Dimitri’s not exactly putting all his cards on the table and that there’s a different side to him … without Felix telling us directly.

失せろ

ETA: I just realised I didn’t come back around to the point I first raised: that the characters sound different in English. Dimitri’s the most extreme example of this, with just a few other characters that stood out for me. (Like Linhardt is less wordy in Japanese, but they needed to translate his attitude into words so that makes sense.)

In Dimitri’s case I think it’s because he gives off a 真面目 vibe (majime; which is earnest or serious, but means a bit more than that) that they had to translate into chivalry because there’s no direct or easy equivalent. You can see how they played this up in scenes like the Battle of Eagle and Lion where he goes ‘For honour!’, but he just says

進めっ which is like, just ‘Forward!’. It’s majime but not chivalrous, you know what I mean?

(To those who want to know, yes, ‘Kill every last one of them’ is 殺し尽くしてやろ, so that’s a pretty spot on LMAO.)

The relaxed and informal speech might clash with the chivalry too, so it got lost in translation only to come back during moments like above.

goodmorning! well, it’s 3pm now, but i love the sunshine emojis 🌞

obligatory disclaimer that i have mixed feelings about fanfiction as a medium. i much prefer reading paradise lost to the bible, but pride & prejudice & zombies does nothing for me. i think it’s similar to how when staging a play that’s been done a million times before, changing the setting must reframe the text on a thematic level for that staging to be necessary, and thus, good.

a lot of fanfiction, to me, whether published or lost to the archives of the internet, attempts to reframe the text without actually understanding the text. i realize that not all fanfiction exists to explore the text in the first place. sometimes it just works as good shorthand to explore one’s (often sexual) fantasies. you already know these characters––oh, and now they’re fucking.

so in that regard, i can’t exactly fault these authors for not understanding the text. i can fault them for other things, certainly, but thematic relevance was clearly not a goal in the first place. it’s the difference between a ship existing in a work of fanfiction to further the themes, and a fanfiction written for the sole purpose of exploring a ship.

with all that in mind, here’s a bullet-pointed list of fanfictions i would read should they exist and be well-written, but definitely do not exist and are not well-written because i have the appropriate amount of faith in the fanfic community (and that is... very little)...

a really long story from mai’s pov elapsing from her childhood to at least a year into zuko’s reign. the climax of the story is the turning point at the boiling rock wherein ty lee betrays azula. the first act is the buildup to all of that, and the second act is the fallout. the main ship being mai/ty lee, obviously. oh and at one point towards the end, mai and sokka play pai sho together. that is of the utmost importance.

a story told almost like an epic poem (perhaps with the structure of one, but still in prose) about suki’s adventures throughout the show’s chronology and then spanning afterwards as well. we learn about her backstory, what she got up to in the months in between seeing sokka. it’s usually quite bleak, as she is mostly helping refugees before getting kidnapped by azula, tortured for information, and then thrown into a horrific maximum security prison! but it’s not all bad. and seeing as suki is the protagonist, it would never make for a bad read, either. the main ships are sokka/suki and suki/ty lee. because duh.

azula, in the years spanning the depths of her recovery, going on hikes with toph. basically each segment is just the next hike with toph, in chronological order, and it tracks her development just through how much she is willing to divulge, and what toph would say in response. she grows a lot. unsurprisingly, toph makes for a great therapist. no romantic shipping of any sort, but azula & toph would share a really fascinating bond.

sokka and iroh playing pai sho. sokka and asami playing pai sho. (AU?? or are they in the spirit world?? idk lol) i suppose korra/asami would be present because korra’s all “kick his ass babe” and sokka/zuko would be as well because wherever sokka and iroh are together, zuko must be too. and of course, he is very invested in the outcome of this game, even if he does fall asleep at one point. i guess you’d have to make up the rules of pai sho, at least vaguely, seeing as there are no official rules, but isn’t it a lovely idea?

chell’s AU wherein azula and zuko run away together as children and join the gaang. just gonna link to it here. (read it if you know what’s good for you.) i don’t think there are really any ships, other than azula’s one-sided crush on suki, because azula does not have time to care about other people’s love lives (and it’s from her pov) but sokka/zuko is alluded to, if i remember correctly.

my AU that simply exists as an excuse to have sokka be a lightningbender. here.

a whole fucking novel of an AU wherein instead of being tasked to capture the avatar, zuko was simply left to die in the southern water tribe. he expects to either freeze to death or be eaten by wolves or, if he’s lucky, be killed instantly by the people there, but instead, sokka and katara take him in and he grows up in the swt, and goes with them when they find aang three years later. then of course shit goes down once azula shows up, and it’s all a whole thing! since it’s from zuko’s pov, the primary ship is sokka/zuko, obviously.

epistolary between firelord zuko and chief katara of the southern water tribe. none of their letters are remotely diplomatic, and mainly serve as gossip with only the occasional reminder that they are, in fact, world leaders. no ships.

sokka’s life postwar that kind of just details all the cool shit he did. shrug.

idk whether this counts as atla or lok, but i would read a chronicle of kya/izumi dyke drama in a heartbeat and am not ashamed to admit that.

ty lee and azula’s very complicated dynamic from alternating povs. i just think their respective feelings towards each other are super interesting. especially the night at the beach and the turning point at the boiling rock, though all the moments leading up to that are just as important. the ‘ship, though, would be mai/ty lee. (y’all know theyre my favs, right)

the katara cinematic universe is its whole own post, so i’m not even gonna discuss that here.

and then of course, our somehow very in-depth highschool AU (i don’t know how we got here, either) that could be its own series of young adult novels if written by someone with that kind of patience and focus (so to be clear, not me). hopefully, it would be imbursed with that painfully authentic sensibility american vandal (rip legend) had, while also being a bit too earnest, the way all coming of age stories are––but charmingly so. it might even be a series of vignettes, short stories from various povs that all come together in a painfully hilarious tapestry. azula begins studying for the SATs freshman year. mai sarcastically quips at anyone who deigns to speak to her. also she’s dating zuko, so that’s great comedy fodder of course. katara runs for student body president against azula. sokka and zuko land themselves in detention and they find a way to escape. toph joins the science club just because sokka runs the science club; things explode. stuff like that.

i used to say i’d want a kyoshi backstory, but now we have one, and i simply have yet to read it. oops.

oh and this is lok, but i’ve always wanted more on mako & lin’s dynamic. i just think they’re really cute together. (to be clear, not romantically. ew)

i think the avatar universe is also just rife with fascinating lore, though, and you could pretty much write anything, set in any time period, that complies with canon and– hopefully– enhances it. for example, i would love to read a story that incorporates the physics of their universe into its thematic framework. i really liked the stuff with the lionturtles, for example.

oh, and of course, a sokka/zuko vignette that’s just them going to see a production of king lear and then discussing it afterwards. that fanfiction exists for an audience of one, but you did ask me, so...

january book round up

27 books this month! the most i’ve read in a month in quite some time, and a good start to the year. a couple days late because i’ve been feeling a bit meh. i doubt i’ll be able to read this much at any point this year. but it’s nice to get a good strong head-start on my yearly goal. a mix of audiobooks and e-books so far.

a land so wild - elyssa warkentin ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a really lovely epistolary/found media m/m romance story, set during the 1840s, about a ship captain and a naturalist trying to chart a northwest passage in the arctic, and find a ship that was lost five years ago trying to do the same thing. very beautifully told, with lots of emotion that you’d think would be lost because of the mode of storytelling.

how to bang a billionaire - alexis hall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a re-read. i remember being very sceptical of this when i first read it, but now that i’ve finished the entire series there’s so much i appreciate about it.

trade me - courtney milan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ my first courtney milan book, after hearing a lot of good things about her. the hype was deserved! i like her writing a lot and this book (a romance between a poor chinese-am daughter of immigrants, and a billionaire heir with an eating disorder) touched on a lot of stuff that you don’t typically see in romance novels. particular what it mean and what it feels like to be poor. this was probably my favourite treatment of billionaires in a novel (at least, ones where they don’t get beheaded).

hold me - courtney milan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the second in the series, equally enjoyable. the hero of this novel has to confront and own up to his sexism in ways that a lot of romance novels would simply let men get away with! if i’d known that that’s part of what the book covered i might not have been enthused to read it, because while i genuinely believe bigoted people can change for the better, i’m not super interested in reading about it. but i really enjoyed how milan wrote it, and the romance was lovely. (also the heroine is trans, nice.)

my lady’s lover - nicola davidson ⭐️⭐️⭐️ not a lot of substance, but it’s historical lesbian romance, which is my eternal catnip. a lady’s maid who’s the member of a society for sexual freedom falls in love with her mistress, and happily discovers that the feelings are returned. there’s sex, some angst, and a happy ending,

a lady’s desire - lily maxton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ another historical f/f romance. pretty low stakes, without much external conflict, but it had good writing and great characters, and i’ll always have a soft spot for childhood friends to lovers. and let’s be real: i mostly picked this up because of the cover. a woman with her head in another lady’s lap, gazing gayly at her? yes, thanks.

rebound remedy - christine d’abo ⭐️⭐️ eh! m/m holiday romance, about a guy who gets dumped before christmas, has a whirlwind rebound romance with his bartender, and then starts falling deeper for him. nothing bad about it, but i just wasn’t feeling the romance. i’ve read shorter stories that had more chemistry and character interaction.

don’t let go - cynthia dane ⭐️ another f/f romance that i got mostly because of the cover, but this one let me down hard. i liked that it was set in taiwan; had a lot of cultural nuance and tidbits that i enjoyed, but everything else, the writing, the editing, and characters, the chemistry... it was a bust. it also had a weird and baffling approach to mental illness, and managed to be yet another book that makes me hate rich people. also... the two authors credited are the pseudonyms of the same person skfjhdfkj ihni why she’s crediting herself twice.

alone - e.j. noyes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LOVED THIS. f/f mystery/thriller-ish romance, though the mystery aspect is admittedly light. noyes has lovely prose and a good sense of storytelling, but the romance is where this really shone for me. which... idk, i’m aware that it might not be for others who read this book. but something about the way olivia fell so helplessly in love with celeste, everything celeste does to hold on to olivia... it appealed to me on a visceral level.

boystown book 1 - marshall thornton ⭐️⭐️⭐️ three short stories about a gay private eye solving mysteries in the community in the early 1980s. it reminded me of how much i love short form mysteries; there’s just something about stories being told that way that i can’t resist. i was also kind of charmed by the way our main character tripped into bed with a cute twink like every 10 pages. :3

poems i sleep next to - shelby eileen ⭐️⭐️⭐️ a collection of contemporary poems. really enjoyable. nothing wowed me, but several poems moved me.

how to talk to nice english girls - gretchen evans ⭐️⭐️⭐️ early 20th century f/f romance between a spirited american heiress and a nice proper english girl. low stakes, character driven. not really character driven enough actually; i felt like they didn’t get to spend enough time knowing each other. and some more external conflict wouldn’t have hurt. but it was hot and fun and well-written.

by his rules - j.a. rock ⭐️⭐️⭐️ an m/m romance that looks at abuse in bdsm communities, and spends a good long time on recovery, survival, and healthy relationships that involve kink. i really could not get into the discipline stuff, but i really liked that the main characters worked for their HEA; nothing clicked magically into placed for them, and aiden was given space and resources to work out his trauma.

the wolf and the girl - aster glenn gray ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a retelling of little red riding hood set in early 20th century russia and france that focuses on the friendship between two young women. simple story, very beautifully told.

the secret diaries of anne lister - anne lister ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ i started reading this in the middle of last year, after i finished gentleman jack, and i was basically reading snippets at a time until december, and then by january i was eating it all up. i LOVED this. i loved the diary of this at times manipulative, haughty, but kind-hearted and tender and clever woman, and all of her loves and struggles and observations. there’s just something... very good about knowing and seeing that lesbians have always existed, and hearing her first hand accounts is just... GREAT. really looking forward to the next volume.

oh, earthman! - berlynn wohl ⭐️⭐️⭐️ an anthology of short stories. weird, fun, scifi-flavoured m/m erotica.

emma - jane austen ⭐️⭐️⭐️ took me long enough, i know! but i really really thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book, especially the audiobook, whose narrator i loved. i loved emma: her cleverness and wit and finesse and all her terrible blunders. though i could tell where the story was going, the getting there was really fun, and i super duper enjoyed the romance (though at one point i got seriously squicked out haha). and fight me: i adored miss bates, i thought she was the best character in the book. LOVE a spinster who don’t know when to shut her trap but is earnest and kind and gentle-hearted and GOOD.

«légendaire.» - kai ashante wilson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ kaw, i’m begging you, PLEASE write another fell length novel. or novella. please! i love his writing and world-building so so so much, i flip out thinking about it. until he does, these short stories will have to suffice. this was great: everything i love about his writing, revisiting the world and concepts that we’ve seen in his other books, with mesmerising characters and a tragic, but soulful tale.

a conspiracy of truths - alexandra rowland ⭐️⭐️⭐️ i love stories about stories, and as far as that goes, this a pretty good one! the one way it failed to grasp me was on the character front; i just didn’t enjoy the main character as much as i could, or as much as i was meant to, and i felt at times he was too far removed from the plot. basically, chant is a master storyteller travelling in a foreign land, when he’s falsely accused of witchcraft and spying. the novel details how he uses storytelling to get himself out of the pickle, and all the consequences that follow. there are some amazing side characters in this (esp. his apprentice, who i will definitely read the nest book for).

animal farm - george orwell ⭐️⭐️⭐️ felt like rereading this, so i did. and i mean, it’s animal farm! it holds up.

the overdue life of any byler - kelly harms ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ like i said above, i like books about books, and i got this thinking it would be something like that? but it’s more about a single mother who gets the chance to take some time off from her kids and her life, have fun, find romance, and how she deals with managing that, and the guilt, and all the elements that are introduced/reintroduced to her life. i don’t think this is an amazing book, but it’s a lovely one, and i know there are middle aged mothers out there who would benefit from reading it. it’s not about romance (though there’s a cute romance in it); it’s about motherhood and being there for yourself as much as your kids.

the subs club 1&2 - j.a. rock ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the first two books in an m/m romance series. a group of friends is still reeling after one of them dies at the hands of an irresponsible dom. they decide to form the subs club; a website to review and rate doms, with an eye towards making the community safer for subs, though it doesn’t really work out that way. the first book follows dave, who ends up getting involved with a guy who’s eerily like ron swanson from parks and rec, and the second follows miles, a masochist who gets involved with a guy who likes to pretend to be a vampire (lmao??). i have to tip my hat to j.a. rock, who seems to have a knack for getting me to read things i’d be otherwise sure i wouldn’t be interested in. and i mean, even after reading, i’m pretty sure i don’t want to read other books about domestic discipline or s&m or pretend draculas, but her characters and plots are well written and engaging and i had a really good time. although, i have to mention: the second book dealt with internalised racism in a way that... while well meaning, was definitely not very deftly done.

alice & jean - lily hammond ⭐️⭐️⭐️ post wwii f/f romance set in new zealand. a young widowed mother falls for the dashing woman who delivers her milk every morning. they have to contend with community scrutiny, an old friend of alice’s husband, and her bitter old mother to fight their way to happiness. i enjoyed it; it was simple and the romance was incredibly sweet, though the writing did drag at times.

american dreamer - adriana herrera ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ DELIGHTFUL. the very definition of feel good romance! a young dominican-american man moves to the outskirts of new york to start his food truck, and almost immediately meets a cute librarian who turns his head. i flipping love queer romances with characters from the caribbean; it just feels so good when slang is part of the language of love.

minotaur - j.a. rock ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ i read four books by this author this month, and this is hands down my favourite. i don’t know man, combine girls and monsters and lesbian romance and i”M THERE. thera is a teen orphan sent to a home for girls at the edge of town. there, she makes friends, raises hell, falls in love with the mysterious new girl, and also becomes obsessed with stories of the minotaur, half woman half monster, locked the labyrinth in a cliff not far away. this story appealed to me in so many ways, and i really hope the author writes more f/f in the future.

two dads and three girls - nick (yu) he ⭐️⭐️⭐️ the autobiography of a gay man growing up in china, and the story of how he finds himself, finds love, and becomes a father. very sweet.

whew. that took me a while lol. that’s it for january. i probably (hopefully) will be too busy to read as much this month, but i have some interesting books on my plate. currently listening to an audiobook of beneath a scarlet sky, which is unfortunately underwhelming, and i’ll probably move on with some fun YA.

He was already stressed about visiting Eiji’s parent’s house. He was a man. What if they didn’t like him. What if, what if….

And then he found this little gem tucked in the back of Eijis bookcase behind some comics. “American Twink Railed Hard Gangbang’ the ‘Engrish’ scrawled across the cover in weathered white letters.

He’d thought it weird that there was a video tape behind the comics.

Eiji was out in the kitchen with his family. Ash wondered if his mom ever found his porn, this wasn’t a very sneaky place for it. Maybe she gave him privacy ‘boys will be boys’ and such. Eiji was nineteen when he first came to America. Men have needs.

That…… hit a little close to home. But that correlation was interesting. This was Eiji’s first trip back home, so it was unlikely these were new.

He removed some of the other comics, a single shelf of tankobons. Behind them there was a another video and a few magazines. By no means a sizable porn collection. He could hold all of it in one hand. It was actually pretty pathetic.

Shorter had two milk crates of playboy magazines he’d swiped over the years. A truly impressive feat, seeing that almost all of them were shoplifted or stolen. He used to joke ‘when I die, you can have my porn collection,” To which Ash always responded with disgust.

His dad had ‘motorcycle’ magazines that Ash knew about before he ran away, it’s not like they were hidden. The house was only men; him, dad, and Griff. Of course Griff had some pinup girls from Sports Illustrated on his walls. Ash supposed Eiji’s small collection was part of living at home. …but a significant amount of it was pretty white boys getting fucked.

At least he didn’t need to worry about his boyfriend being attracted to him or not. ….now that they were at a point where attraction was acknowledged and welcomed. If he’d seen this when he first met Eiji, he could have been convinced there were ulterior motives.

He flipped through the magazines out of curiosity. One was relatively normal ‘straight’ man stuff; female models, cute Asian schoolgirls. Sweet innocence the primary sex appeal with provocative voyeuristic camera angels and demure poses. This is what he was expecting, not the other magazines full of kink. A slim blindfolded blonde boy with cum on his face. Another image of a Caucasian boy tied open over a Spanish horse, wood pressing into his groin.

He knew his hair was irrationally standing on end. The images were only shocking in relation to who owned them. Eiji was in the kitchen talking to his family, catching up. No sports posters on the wall, the image Ibe took was framed in the family room though. The comics had drawn him in with their touch of color and personality….. Finding this was….stash… entirely unexpected in contrast to the clean normal exterior.

But he supposed that was normal. Most people didn’t broadcast their sexuality, let alone desires like these. Honestly, at the beginning of their relationship he was curious if Eiji even liked guys, his “Do you have a girlfriend?” question testing the waters. Eiji’s cautious “No, no girlfriend,” giving him a glimmer of hope to entertain an idea and fantasy he knew he shouldn’t have.

But Eiji’s awful flirting, and terrible dick jokes, bravery and earnest attitude….. and somehow they ended up here. He was doomed to fall for such a sheltered honest guy who laughably wanted to protect him and didn’t want anything in return. An equal he didn’t deserve.

But still…. Leather?

He had never needed to do much S&M thankfully, it wasn’t the primary draw to him…. But he’d done it.

Ash flipped through some more pages. A boy in a spidergag. Asian this time. This seemed to be more of a leather magazine than anything. The photography highlighted the young men in various restraints.

The last two magazines were ‘Hardcore White Boy’, and he was a bit scared to open them. This might be a secret that Eiji didn’t want to share, but curiosity got the better of him.

It was exactly what he expected. Bondage and gangbangs, and red marks, and…. He put the papers down.

He tried to forget that the boys looked very similar to him. None quite had his shade of blonde, and eye color wasn’t visible in most images, but the correlation was there.

He left the girly mag out. Opening it and posing it over his T-shirt covered chest when he heard the creak of Eiji finally opening the bedroom door.

Eiji froze as he saw the magazine in Ash’s hand. Evaluating the Caucasian in front of him for anything more than the shenanigans being currently pulled.

“D-! Where did you find that?”

Ash rolled over, mischief overriding his system. “In your comics,” Shit-eating grin.

“I- is that all you found?” Dread crept up Eiji’s face…. It was adorable.

“Does a good boy like you have more?” He flipped through the magazine, “I think she’s pretty,” He teased. A pretty girl whining and covering her breasts as the camera ‘interrupted’ her changing.

“You know I’m not a ‘good boy’. Stop being a dick,”

His stuttering and flushing were amusing. ….Ash wanted to unbutton that pajama shirt and see how far the pinkness went…. But they were at Eiji’s parent’s house, and Japanese walls were thin.

Eiji set up his futon next to Ash. Letting a hand creep out to hold his friend’s fingers.

The night was normal.

He still couldn’t forget the video tape and magazines.

He wondered if Eiji would ever bring it up. The other always knew when he was lying.

Nothing was mentioned.

They had been messing around a bit beforehand…. It was still weird. New. Hesitant in a way that was annoying, but not unwarranted.

They had been moved into their new apartment about a week now. Eiji was out. The visible camcorder gave him an idea…..

It was easy to go to the sex store and find the things he wanted a few days earlier. Ash had been debating this for a while.

Sounds of his own moaning filled the apartment.

“Y-you can take something that bit,” Eiji sputtered. The disbelief was delightful.

Ash licked the shell of his ear, brushing his soft hair. “Yeah, does it turn you on? I’ve still got rope marks on my legs, you wanna see?”

No reaction, but the older boy’s body was rigid under his touch.

His hand cupped his boyfriend’s erection. He flinched away from the contact. “I’m still loose if you want to do it now. Watch me on screen, and have me here.” He trembled at the suggestion, fought the urge to bolt and leave the one person he trusted more than anything. He licked his lips to cover up that reaction.

Would Eiji take the bait?

Ash traced a finger along his boyfriend’s face, lightheartedly. Eiji refused to look at him, even going as far to hide his face in his hands.

“You must think I’m a terrible pervert.”

“I don’t think that at all. Do you want to do that to me?” He pulled his tank top to the side, pink nipple poking out of the thin cotton…. “You seem to be interested,” A frisky squeeze to the groin…. Eiji was hard… Ash felt his stomach turning. ….please say ‘no’, please say ‘no’…..

“Look, I watched those before I even met you,” He brushed Ash’s hand away, defensive. Angry? “Stop being cruel. I will not do stuff like that with you unless you want to.”

“I just thought you’d like it.”

“I don’t think you like stuff like that, so stop.”

Ash shut off the TV, quickly killing his practiced sounds of pseudo ecstasy. He left. The tension in the room was unbearable.

Eiji slumped farther into the couch, head in his hands.

“I’m glad that you won’t do stuff like that to me. …. But I don’t think I mind if you have it.”

Request: Wedding Woes

IEYooooo, I just thought of this, but I thought you'd write it well: wedding day and Brendon’s bride is super nervous about like what if he doesn't really love her. Her bridesmaids kind of freak out and get Brendon and he comforts her from the other side of her dressing room door?????? Idk, I just thought it would be cute. You stand gazing into the long mirror. Your hair curled and pinned perfectly, your makeup simple and elegant, your earrings glistening and sparkling in the sunlight, your dress fitted like a glove- hugging your body in the most flattering ways. Your veil lay down your back just sweeping the bottom of your waist completing the look. Around you your bridesmaids pull and flatten your train as they remind you how beautiful you look.

You take a slow and deep breath, smiling as an unsettling feelings swirls in your stomach. From the moment you laid your eyes on your frist bridal magazine you had dreamed of your wedding. The biggest moment of your life. This is it. Your wedding day. You are getting married.

*Knock Knock* You turn to see your dad slowly open the door and poke his head in before welcoming himself in the room. “Oh my Y/N” He steps into the room and over to you, placing his hand on your arm. His eyes weld with tears and his voice cracks softly- “When did you grow from my little girl to a beautiful woman?” You smile bashfully and look down at your engagment ring, spining it around your finger. The ring sparkled brilliantly in the light. Brendon picked it out perfectly.

“You ready honey?” “I uh..” you clear your throat and shake your head “I just need a minute.”

Your dad gives your arm a gentle squeeze and nods, excusing himself from the room.

“Y/N?” Your maid of honor cautiously asks as she stands up from your side. You close your eyes - your thoughts swirling rapidly. You t urn around and look again in themirror, watching a tear escape and slowly trail down your cheek. You close your eyes and breath in and out, in and out, slowly and purposefully. Your maid of honor sweeps her thumb across your cheek catching the tear. “Stay here, dont move”. She proceeds to coral the remaining bridesmaids and leads them outside, leaving you alone, looking in the mirror. You gaze at your reflection at the delicate “B” necklace hanging around your neck and smile, feeling another tear creep onto your cheek.

Everything was perfect. The dress, hair, shoes, venue, even the bridesmaids dresses which were saved from near catastrophe from being a banana yellow to their intended gold. It was all perfect- from the first stitich to the last flower petal. And yet... here you stand. A pit of worry sinking deeper and deeper in your stomach. You hear footsteps and your maid of honor opens the door.

“Hey- come here...”

You glance at her questioningly and step down from the dressing pedestal and walk toward her. Before leaving the doorway she stops you, holding your shoulders and turning you around. She guides you backwards until your back lay against the door-frame.

Screwing the cap back on you place it back in Brendon’s hand. He returns the flask to his jacket pocket. You breathe heavy looking down at your ring- shining brilliantly around your delicate finger. “God I’m so fucking nervous” “Just keep your eyes on me as you walk down the aisle. Nothing else matters. The church could catch on fire, the priest could run out mid ceremony, heck Aunt Jackie could bring back the family fued from Thankgiving 2016. The only thing that matters is us. Focus on me. Trust me, I’m not going anywhere.”

He reaches around the doorway and strokes his hand down your arm until her reaches your hand, enveloping it in his. “I love you. Every single day. I love you more than I did yesterday, and I’ll love you more tomorrow than today. And every day and promise to work harder to be the man you deserve.”

You stand there together, in short silence separated by the thin door-frame. You squeeze his hand and smile. “We should probably get going or people are going to think we bailed” he jokes, causing you to chuckle. As Brendon starts to walk away you quickly re-grab his hand. “Wait!” He goes back to the doorway. “The next time I see you I will be Ms. Urie” you smile.
