The fic is during burial mounds settlement days. I think during the fight WWX doesn't fight LWJ personally but calls many many corpses to do it for him.

5. Can you help find this fic? It's a modern fic about the aftermath of how wy was groomed and abused by one of jyl's friend. After getting out of that toxic relationship wy started a flower shop which his sibling try to visit frequently. Jc and lz is studying law together. I remember wy having a breakdown bcs he figured out that lz was the younger brother of lxc who was the doctor that treated him after his abused. There was also a scene where sushe harassed wy to the point of panic attack. Thanks

First of all, I wanted to say that I love your analysis of the novel mdsz, so if it's not too much trouble, I wanted to ask you what do you think would have happened if after WWX's resurrection, he didn't want to go to Gusu with LWJ? I mean, it is known from canon that WWX using mo xuanyu's identity to try to escape from JC and LWJ said he wanted to be with LWJ and LWJ immediately takes him to Gusu and given that is not the case how would LWJ try to be close to

I think your ask might have been sent a little earlier than intended, as the last sentence seems to have cut off. But I think I can gather what you wanted to ask. So let's take a look at the scene you're referring to:

“Thank you for being so enthusiastic. However, your thoughts are quite off. Even if I am attracted to men, I don’t like just any type of man, much less follow anyone who waves at me. For example, I’m not interested in ones like you.” Wei WuXian was purposely trying to disgust him. Jiang Cheng had always hated being defeated while compared with others, no matter how pointless the comparison was.

Chapter 10 ExR translations

WWX is trying to disgust JC to the point he would leave him alone. He's already gathered JC holds a lot of animosity towards him regardless of whether he is actually WWX or just someone who cultivates the same path as him. In order to escape, WWX decides to scare both men off by using MXY's apparent reputation.

“Which type? Well, I am very much attracted to people like HanGuang-Jun.” Lan WangJi could not tolerate this sort of frivolous and foolish joke at all. If he felt disgusted, he would definitely draw a line between them and keep his distance. Disgusting two people at once—this was killing two birds with one stone! However, as Lan WangJi heard this, he turned around. His face was emotionless, “Mark your words.” Wei WuXian, “Hmm?” Lan WangJi turned back, speaking in a mannerly yet resolute way, “I will take this person back to the Lan Sect.”

Wei WuXian, “...”

Wei WuXian, “...Huh?”

So if WWX hadn't put the theatrics on and said that HGJ was his type, he probably wouldn't have been able to escape JC. As such, JC would have attempted to take WWX back to Lotus Pier - which is where I think another fight would have ensued between JC and LWJ. I think it's quite clear from this chapter, that it is well known JC imprisons and tortures anyone he suspects of being WWX or even dares to emulate his techniques and cultivate the ghost path (guidao). As such, I think it's safe to assume LWJ is also aware of this and he would simply not allow such things to happen. LWJ has already proven he was willing to fight JC to protect WWX when he shielded him from JCs initial attack with Zidian, and I think he'd do it again without hesitation.

Technically WWX never agreed to go back to Gusu with LWJ. He tried to escape (apparently.. but personally I think his efforts were rather half-hearted!) and then he made a scene outside the entrance to the Cloud Recesses, in an attempt to get himself thrown out.

Lan WangJi stood still in front of the entrance, turning a deaf ear to him, and watched the scene with an indifferent look. When Wei WuXian’s voice had somewhat quieted, he spoke, “Let him cry. When he becomes tired, drag him inside.” Wei WuXian hugged the donkey and cried even harder, bumping his head against it.

I have to say, I just love the absolute poetry of LWJ practically dragging WWX back to Gusu in his second life, while his requests for WWX to do so in his first life were always rebuffed! So I think that even if "MXY" hadn't announced LWJ was his type, LWJ would have taken WWX back to the Cloud Recesses nevertheless. Yes LWJ took what WWX said teasingly and ran with it - which is completely adorable. It's the first time we see LWJ counter WWX by teasing him back! But even if WWX hadn't given him the opening to say he was going to take him back to Gusu, I think he would have just announced his intentions anyway. He was trying to warn off JC and protect WWX - and this was the best way to do so. By doing this he would be able to keep WWX safe and out of JCs reach.

Personally I think LWJ does not trust JC in the slightest and is very concerned he would seek WWX out if he let him go off alone after this encounter. Considering JC led the first siege against WWX at the Burial Mounds, it's no surprise he's very protective of WWX when JC is around. Even if LWJ wasn't aware of the rumours regarding JCs penchant for torturing anyone remotely reminding him of WWX, LWJ is still going to hold some resentment towards him. Which is why I think LWJ also prevents WWX from running away during the start of their investigation, when he is still playing the part of "MXY", because he is worried something will happen to him or JC will catch him. LWJ's concerns are very much justified later in the novel as well! Even if his method of protecting WWX is questionable.

His entire leg was covered with the black bruise of the Curse Mark. After staring at it for a while, Lan WangJi spoke in a bitter voice, “... I only left for a few hours.”

Chapter 25

The first time he allows WWX to go off alone, he comes back supporting a curse mark on his leg and a whip mark on his ankle, having escaped JCs clutches once again! We can see from the above that seeing WWX in this condition has upset him. He can't bear to see WWX hurt, even if it is just a minor curse mark and a whip from Zidian.

Granted, WWX is more than capable of looking after himself and LWJ does not want to restrict WWXs movements if he can help it. But he has felt the pain of losing WWX once before and that's bound to affect him both mentally and emotionally. Which I think we begin to see rather clearly during the above chapter. As such, he is extra cautious when it comes to WWX's second chance at life.

To answer your question, if WWX had somehow managed to escape JCs clutches in a different way and LWJ thought he was going to be safe - he might not have done anything at all. If LWJ was absolutely sure JC would not pursue WWX and cause him any harm, I think he would have left WWX to live his second chance at life however he wished. As much as LWJ loves WWX, he doesn't want to force anything on him - he did that once before with the stolen kiss and he felt terrible for doing so afterwards. As such, I don't think LWJ would have tried to get close to WWX if things hadn't transpired the way they did on Dafan Mountain.

LWJ would just be happy as long as WWX was safe and well. If WWX did not want LWJ to be a part of his second chance at life, LWJ would respect that. Obviously LWJ wants to be with WWX whatever way we can (romance being the absolute ideal), but he loves him so much he wouldn't restrain him or force himself upon him. The last thing he wants to do is repeat what his father did to his mother.

Thankfully the minute WWX is given the choice of whether or not to stay with LWJ, even before he is no longer playing the part of "MXY", he still chooses to return to him. It doesn't take WWX long to release that he is very happy to have LWJ around and he wants nothing more than him to be a part of his life also 💕

What if on some random night hunt, both wwx and jc get deaged to somewhere probably around the CR studies.

It is seriously troubling for everyone, especially the boy who still have their adult bodies. jc can tell this core isn't his. It being stronger was indeed a bit worrying when he wasn't explained what happened, but he somehow also could tell it /wasn't his/.

wwx on the other side saw his reflection in sandu and was shocked when he couldn't recognise himself but also felt much weaker than what he remembered "of the day before".

It takes a lot of calming down from the juniors and attempts at explaining who they are today (leaving the trauma on the side for now).

The thing is, they are still in the middle of solving some problems and the two "young" cultivators are more than happy to help despite being so troubled ("I trust we can fix it later" wwx said as jc rolled his eyes at his lack of care).

And this is how the juniors see for the first time what the duo was like before everything was shattered. They are so close to one another, fighting rather well despite the balance now being messed up (they somehow still manage to balance it well enough).

Back to the inn, everyone is surprised by how jc acts (even jl, who has only known jiujiu post-I-lost-everything-but-you). This is such a contrast from the fierce and severs looking sect leader they know (even tho the quartet has learned to know he can be nice and loving too).

wwx isn't 100% out of character, although he might be a bit less drunk than usual and a whole lot flirty with jc (which does make the juniors a bit unsure of what is happening.) of course, the ymj sect was immediately warned of what happened, so no one would be surprised of seeing their dear sect leader like this.

of course, lwj is also warned of the situation (as if they could let hgj in the dark about his husband). So while they all have that fun at the inn, you have ymj SIC and lwj on their way to them to make sure their respective reason of worries is alright.

meanwhile, the juniors are still stuck to deal with a wwx who is somehow more mischievous than before and a jc who is actually ready to /follow him/ in these ideas.

It is a strange evening for the juniors than to deal with these men who they look up to but are now basically around their age. But as no one has reached them yet for help, they decide that staying at the inn would be better. After all, it is close to where everything happened and they actually have yet to fully deal with what has been causing problems to this village.

They were going to take three rooms (thankfully to jl money, the juniors could share the biggest room here), but wwx asked why three when he and jc can share one. It takes a bit of arguing, only for jl to give in because he cannot argue against jiujiu telling him it would be stupid to spend on a room that isn't even needed.

So they now have two rooms and the juniors are a bit nervous about it.

What if they suddenly get back to normal in the middle of the night? Would they be alright in the same room?

"But don't you think senior way and sect leader jiang are strangely... very close to one another?" oyz ends up asking after a while.

Sure, they all had heard about how close the two had been in the past, but they felt like people had forgotten to tell them about how they seemed to flirt together?! This isn't right, especially since now, wwx is married to hgj!!

little did they know that wwx and jc had actually been pining for /years/ in the past.

it was Jiang "I am not enough he can find better" Cheng and Wei "I know jc doesn't see me as a servant but I still cannot be his for this reason" Ying being an absolute idiot. They had experienced together, mostly because they trusted each other in trying those, hiding behind it only being experiments and everyone does that yes, it wasn't because they were in love with each other.

These are the same idiots who most likely still had romantic love for each other, but had too much baggage at this point to go on with it.

But now you have them away from anything that could have been a cause of worries and a reminder of why they "couldn't". Sure, in their mind, it was only yesterday that yzy would have wiped wwx at the thought of his sleeping with her son, or that jfm was always putting wwx first.

But they also understood that now, no one would do such a thing. Now they would probably be side by side (and the role was probably reversed in the public eyes).

Now they were away and could a bit more easily indulge. especially in an inn.

They were happy to finally be in their room after checking out. Despite technically being the youngest of the group now, the juniors were still looking up for their opinions and also making sure they were alright. the duo was more than happy to finally be alone.

the moment they were in, wwx slapped a silencing talisman on the door, turning to jc with a grin, starting to tease him again about how he has been acting since earlier with the kids.

it ends up with them playfully arguing until jc finally pushes wwx to the bed and pins him down on it. It surprises them a bit all the ease it took jc to do it, after all, to them it wasn't so long ago that they were to the same strength, both physically and in cultivation. wwx laugh at this, since he was usually the one to pin jc down on a bed "A-cheng has gotten so strong" he praised with a grin.

jc shut him up with a kiss, wwx more than happy to indulge, pulling him closer.

It is a bit weird, since this is jc older body, while wwx simply did not have his at all. Yet it was as if they didn't care for any of it, as long as it was them it would always be alright (plus jc would lie if he said this body wasn't attractive too, even if differently).

hands soon start to roam over unfamiliar skin, slowly taking robes away so they can have direct access to the skin. fingers run over scares for which they do not know the history (and honestly they don't want to know right now).

After a while wwx ends up flipping them over, grinning when he is finally atop jc, kissing along his neck down his chest (giving some love to those harsh scars on his chest, feeling like he has an idea where they come from, yet he pushes it far away).

man tries not to stare in disbelief and disapproval at the mark they may or may not have left visible on each other's neck (they might have gone a bit overboard with the knowledge of no one here to scold them). the lan juniors are a bit conflicted because they do not want for hgj to be destroyed by this (but lsz can easily see how happy this makes senior wei).

jl is in a way worried this will only end up hurting his jiujiu /again/. it is good to see him so happy, but what will it be like when they get back to normal? Will he be alone again?

and on the side oyz look about to go crazy over this new development.

it is so easy to catch on for the juniors, so of course, once they join the ymj SIC and lwj who are having tea downstairs at the inn while waiting for them, of course, they would notice it too (especially lwj, because he /knows/ he's not the one who put those mark here).

They know that both men had been deaged, but neither would have actually expected for something like this to happen. Sure, wwx and jc had a history of being really close, but none of them would have expected it to turn out like this. How could lwj have missed it in their youth?

it doesn't take long before the ymj SIC comes up to his sect leader, politely saluting him while presenting himself (he knows jc must have no idea who he is).

jc is a bit surprised by the action, still not used to the idea he was indeed a sect leader now (but also he had no memory of this man, had he been newer to LP?).

wwx give the man a glance, a bit unsure why /he/ wasn't the sic by jc sides (the juniors did tell them some of the history, but it never told him why he wasn't by jc sides anymore). then they looked at lwj who had approached wwx so suddenly, actually making him back off a little bit, not expecting for the man to come up to him so suddenly.

lwj clearly looks hurt for a moment, hand retracting as his eyes lingered on wwx neck and a couple of exposed marks. he looks displeased for a moment, yet no comments come and he goes back to his usual unexpressive face.

This does trouble wwx, looking back at the juniors who are greeting hgj politely. they have to explain again what happened the day before, saying they didn't have too much time to find out what happened since they had more pressing matters that they still hadn't fully taken care of yet.

"We are enough today that we can split, can't we?" jc asked. They were now 8, which included 2 that were actually older and more experimented now that they were both deaged.

"We could keep investigating here while you two go back to where everything happened" ljy suggested.

Every juniors agreed, not interested to be stuck in the weird and awkward situation that would happen once jc and wwx would go back to being close while lwj couldn't really do anything because this wasn't really the wwx he married (from what he understood, this wwx

was from a time when they barely even knew each other, he couldn't exactly expect wwx to accept so easily that they are husband now, doesn't stop from hurting when he sees what he sees).

Hello.

I just stumbled across your blog and kinda went a little crazy because your takes on mdzs made so. much. sense to me.

I saw the mosy recent post saying you didn't wish to engage in mdzs discourse and I understand you might not respond to this.

But on the off-chance you do.......what do you think about the early relationship between WX? I don't dispute their feeling or anything. But I do think that while WWX respected LWJ and believed in his righteousness, he didn't trust him. And LWJ neither trusted him nor respected his agency. I rarely see fics that address how WWX's first response to HGJ post resurrection wasn't fond. It was wry with a strong desire to get the hell out of dodge. And I understood him to remain wary even as he was playful. For a large part of their journey, WWX kept LWJ at arm's length figuratively.

Alright, my short answer is that their early relationship seems riddled by misunderstandings mostly caused by the multitude of unfortunate situations that kept happening, one right after the other, that drove them apart in Wei Wuxian’s first life. My long answer may be a little convoluted as this is a discourse that has happened at least once before (i saw it once on twitter regarding whether wwx trusted lwj at the start of his second life), and I liked the different responses and ideas that discourse garnered rather than speaking on just my own thoughts. But with that said, let’s break this down.

First off, Lan Wangji has always respected wwx’s agency. In fact, it’s a fear of his shown throughout the story that he has the capability to not respect wwx’s agency and, thus, force the man he loves to be with him without his desire or consent. I think this interpretation of lwj as denying wwx’s agency comes from the cultivation world and young wwx’s perception of their infamous fights during the sunshot campaign. Young wwx who is traumatized after losing his home a second time along with almost all of the people he grew up with, losing his golden core, and having to survive hell on earth without it is essentially acting as a one-man army. Meanwhile the boy who acted like he was an annoyance during their innocent childhoods is picking every opportunity to question the very cultivation that saved his life, physically fighting him over it, and also seemingly casting doubt on his sense of morality. The other cultivators see this as lwj being a stickler for the traditional path and, therefore, unfairly targeting wwx. However, an older wwx in his second life looks back at these memories after having spent time with the older lwj as young lwj essentially keeping him honest: questioning wwx as a show of concern when everyone else was fine with wwx’s complete change in personality as long as it meant they’d win the war. And when those same cultivators turned on wwx for what they had previously praised him for, lwj alone stayed consistent in his care and critique, which always centered wwx’s wellbeing.

Part of this interpretation I feel also relies on the idea of lwj as always antagonistic to wwx in their first life, which to be fair, I agree that he was. However this is also shown to be an unfortunate quirk of him not knowing how to talk to wwx in their youth, and then not having the chance to learn before the war broke out and then the labor camp happenened, and then wwx was exiled. However, we do see some of that softening of his mannerisms towards wwx even in their first life. Lwj questions wwx on his cultivation path one more time after they successfully revive Wen Ning’s consciousness, and though it is the same concern he’s always had, it is neither a fight nor antagonistic. Wwx asks him what else can he do in his position, which lwj sadly accepts, and they part on peaceful if not melancholic terms. Lwj realized he was wrong in his approach (and later, about the cause of wwx’s personality shift), and so he changed to better express himself because it was important to him that wwx not see him as an enemy. And while they did fight, I don’t think wwx ever truly saw him as one. If lwj truly did not respect wwx’s agency, he would have stolen him away to Gusu like he admitted he had the urge to, and that would have been the end to it. However, he doesn’t.

Now, onto wwx not trusting lwj at the start of his second life: yeah, I agree with this, but it’s complicated. There’s a nuance here that I feel like I’ll end up rambling to explain how I would like, but the gist of it is that I think wwx fully trusts lwj to stand with justice and do the right thing… but he doesn’t trust that lwj believes that he is a good person who does the right thing and is worthy to be stood by (which is not the same as wwx himself thinking he is unworthy of being supported). Upon lwj’s introduction into the book at Mo Manor, wwx immediately walks away from the fight the moment he hears lwj’s guqin because he trusts that lwj will protect the remaining people of the manor and the juniors while believing that his staying with provoke a fight out of lwj that he wants to avoid. Every meeting after that until wwx summons Wen Ning, wwx continues his attempts in avoiding the people he knew from his first life, but this is because he thinks that these people hate him, lwj included. But mind you, wwx has no memories of lwj risking his life for him, neither was he there to witness the punishment lwj unapologetically took for those actions. He is going off of what he has witnessed of lwj’s behavior towards him in his first life, and unfortunately he was not present for any of the times lwj publicly spoke up on his behalf and the behalf of those he was protecting. Wwx learns about all this later. So when lwj takes him back to the Cloud Recesses in his second life, his want to get away is based on not wanting to get discovered as himself. This is sometimes used as an example of lwj not respecting wwx’s agency, but technically wwx did say he preferred lwj over jc (😅) and follows lwj out of Gusu when he becomes interested in the mystery of the arm. During that mission, lwj leaves wwx multiple times to do his own thing, showing that wwx is not a prisoner in any way.

Would I say wwx kept lwj at an arm’s length? Idk about that one with his actions. He just acted like how he had as a youth but…more because he doesn’t realize that lwj already knows who he is and he thinks he can get away with it. When it’s revealed that lwj knew all along who he was, wwx drops the Mo Xuanyu act but his actions stay pretty flamboyant towards lwj. Was he wary? Eh, I’d say yeah, but this is 1) because he’s so taken aback by how older lwj is different from younger lwj and can now call his bluff on his “fake flirting” that he doesn’t know what to do with that information because 2) he doesn’t know that lwj has always supported him and that this is a continuation of that support, and 3) he doesn’t know that lwj has liked him and has settled into that affection as he aged, so he doesn’t understand how the boy who “used to hate him” for how he acted and his cultivation is suddenly accommodating to even his most rambunctious behavior and blatant use of his cultivation.

Continuing that “wary” idea, I do think that there was a part of wwx (that is resolved during the mxy-wwx reveal) where wwx does not believe that lwj believes he is good. I think this is part of the friction between them during the sunshot campaign, and it carried into wwx’s second life as, again, he does not witness lwj publicly stand with him. When lwj decides to turn from the rest of the cultivators to protect wwx after the reveal, wwx is happy to have it finally confirmed (to him) that lwj thinks he is moral enough to stand by. So that wariness is proven to be unfounded, and wwx has no qualms about letting it go.

post cql canon, while wwx is still in his in-denial rogue cultivator phase, near his death anniversary, hgj goes on a nighthunt to fight a powerful dream demon that makes him believe wwx was dead again...

and so lwj chooses to remain in the dream where wwx is alive and in love with him

the panicked juniors manage to send off a flare when hgj falls prey to the dream demon.

luckily wwx is nearby.

because the dream demon managed to root itself in hgj's core, they have to get hgj to expel it from his own mind and meridians for them to completely destroy it.

ofc wwx is the one who enters hgj's dreamscape to try and wake him.

what horrible nightmare could be so paralyzing or sweet dream so tempting to hold the likes of hgj so tightly?

wwx assumes perhaps it may be about his mother?

he's prepared to see smth extremely personal and private that he swears to forget completely once they wake.

he is not prepared to see himself - a dream version of himself - making out in a field of bunnies with hgj in his lap.

and then the dream shifts, and the dream version of himself is having dinner with lwj in the jingshi, dressed in lan robes too large for him.

lwj has the most blissed out expression on his face, with the gently upturned lips and subtly gleaming eyes.

dream!wwx is taking turns feeding himself and lwj, his other hand twisting its fingers around lwj's forehead ribbon.

it's.

it's everything wwx wants and seeing it all play out like this sends a deep ache in his chest.

he watches as the most domestic and even raunchy fantasies he tried his hardest not to think of in the presence of lwj, play out with lwj all too willing, all too happy in them, looking like.

like he loves wwx back.

oh no. wwx must've slipped under the dream demon's spell too!

but if that were true, then lwj would be looking at him, not a dream version of him, right...?

still, wwx refused to give it any further thought. what was most important now was to cut out the dream demon's seed before it drains lwj's energy.

seeds were usually hidden in the most precious objects of the dream.

a prized heirloom. a deeply personal trinket.

a beloved pet. a mother's child.

a person's lover.

wwx watches dream!wwx wrap lwj in an intimate embrace, its eyes gleam black as it looks right at wwx.

dream!wwx smirks over lwj's shoulder as his hand wanders, mouth kissing up lwj's neck, licks at lwj's flushed ear.

wwx burns hot, shaking with rage.

he shouldn't—lwj is too—he has no /right/ to—

wwx doesn't realize he's moved until steel meets his own conjured sword.

lwj raises bichen up against wwx. the fake wwx smirks at him behind lwj.

"wei ying...?" lwj's brows furrow, eyes slowly focusing on him.

"lan zhan--!"

"--don't listen! it's a dream demon, lan zhan." dream!wwx cuts him off.

lwj looks back at him and then around them. his gaze passes right over wwx, as though he doesn't see him.

"this is a dream."

and just like that, the idyllic dreamscape around them melts and grows dark.

"of course it's a dream," dream!wwx croons, his robes turning dark and stained with blood and dirt, hair loose and unkempt. lwj pales, bichen dropping to the ground. "i am already dead, remember?"

"lan zhan, don't listen to it!" wwx yells. the ground between him and lwj splits and wwx darts forward. "i'm here, lan zhan!"

but lwj is not listening. "...wei ying is..."

the skies crackle with lightning and the echo of a thousand voices: "the yiling laozu wei wuxian is dead!"

lwj sinks to his knees.

"lan zhan ah, lan zhan," dream!wwx sighs crouching to cradle lwj's face. "the dream doesn't have to end. we can stay here and be together, be married and hidden away from the world..."

a meadow of gentians grows beneath them, the skies clear once more.

lwj looks at dream!wwx, now the way he looked that day in yiling. "i won't go away anymore."

"no, lan zhan, i'm here! i came back!" wwx leaps across the widening fissure between them and nearly gets pushed back by shrubbery and trees shooting up from the ground.

lwj looks up and wwx thinks he actually sees /him/ for a moment. "wei ying...?"

dream!wwx yanks him forward. "right here, lan zhan. but only if we stay here, love. here, in our dreams, i'll stay with you forever."

lwj swallows.

this hug is one of the best moments in the show it makes me feel so much. and wwx doesn't even list his arms to hug back until it's too late and jc is already stepping away FUCK

read a really interesting meta ages ago about how wwx deliberately sets jc between himself and lwj, using jc as both a shield and a tool to deflect lwj's inevitable questions and painful condemnation. and it starts here, with moving to sit down. it's also almost a power play

wwx says don't let outsiders in and jc remembers that lwj is there and goes yeah you got it

another suble manipulation of wwx's, but only to protect himself

where did this boy go....he used to be able to say things like this 😭

and here's jc joining forces with wwx against lwj, who's standing in front of them like a petitioner, and who wwx has barely even looked at

this is exactly how jc is written in a lot of fics that piss me off. this tsundere-esque approach is actually canonical to jc's current relationship dynamics with wwx, it's just not how they interact with each other postres. it annoys me because it's treating jc like an affectionate, if sarcastic and repressed 18 year old who hugged his brother instead of the bitter, deeply wounded man who traumatized him without remorse and tried to kill him multiple times. it's inaccurate, and it's infantalizing, and it lets jc off the hook for the horrific things he does to wwx later in the story by treating him like an awkward kid who can't communicate well instead of an adult who's responsible for the terrible things he's done and the choices he's made

but I like this dynamic. I think it's fun, and sweet, and has personality. i wish we had it back too. I understand the nostalgia

everything about this interaction is so wrong. wwx barely interacting with lwj, being all formal, standing to bow, calling him hgj. the last time they saw each other wwx had asked lwj to sing for him and lwj had given him a song he wrote for them....I'd be freaked out and worried too. but lwj goes about expressing his concern in all the wrong ways

demanding answers. laying down judgement. telling him to return to gusu. of course wwx shies away

he's distancing himself to protect himself. he doesn't want to be the one who lwj leaves, he wants to be in control of how their relationship ends, as he assumes it must end. and he knows nothing good will come to him if he goes to gusu, and that must hurt too because he wants to cultivate the sword again but he never will

this is such a cruel thing to say to lwj...wwx who is the one acting cold suddenly!

and THIS shot. shew. lwj physically trying to get to wwx to demand what's going on, why is he acting like this, why is he not cultivating the sword, why is he using such terrible methods, and jc stepping in as wwx's shield to say this doesn't concern you. the contrast between this scene and postres scenes. wild

WangXian Fake Dating Miscommunication

Y'ALL! I JUST HAD A FIC IDEA WHILE IN THE SHOWER!

It's hs friends wangxian in college, where after wwx gets kicked out (and dragged in to live with lwj by the scruff of his neck because no, Wei Ying, you will not sleep on the park bench) wwx starts a fake dating/Easy A thing

He needs money but isn't actually interested in dating/sex with anyone (aside from lwj but he's not looking at that thought or it will gain power), so he starts an "anonymous" online presence as yllz and posts on some online forums and whatnot around college

Once the customer agrees to meet, they are sworn to secrecy about wwx being yllz (not like they'd particularly want to divulge that info and expose themselves anyway)

So wwx starts "dating" and "having sex" at parties a lot; lwj is losing his mind

He's been in love with wwx for years and now has to see him suddenly become the playboy he'd been expected to become by their peers. The first time he saw wwx out with another man, lwj wanted to cry. He hadn't even known wwx LIKED men, had no clue he could have been an option

People go to wwx for a number of different reasons, but mainly it's to seem cool/popular for being with wwx, or to get the person they like to notice them (wwx does his best to get them together too, kinda like hitch)

Now, lwj is distraught and feeling too inexperienced for wwx

Somehow, he stumbles upon a yllz advert and gets his genius idea: he will hire yllz to be his date so he can practice how to date and then hopefully be able to win over wwx (and not seem too inexperienced for him)

So he hires yllz as hgj to help him practice for the guy he loves

They agree to meet at a restaurant off campus, lwj gets there 10 minutes early (of course) and then wwx walks in and sees the back of lwj's head at the table reserved for them

He freaks and bails before he's noticed. Lwj likes someone? Lwj is in LOVE with someone?

He loses all hope and spirals into a depressive chaotic episode. Yllz, after sending a message to hgj that he can't help and that he's sorry, drops off the face of the earth. Wwx, on the other hand, holes up in his bedroom in the apartment he shares with lwj.

Lwj is completely concerned but wwx won't tell him what's wrong. Things kinda go on like that for a while until it comes out that they actually like each other and that wwx's "experience" isn't real because he's yllz. Lwj is shook, but he can kiss him now, so eh
