I need to go to therapy

I found out that a really good handful of my friends have a +90 GPA

Like girl-you know your worth is not connected to your grades!!!!

But it’s so hard to not spiral sometimes it’s like this:

You friends have better grades then you—> your pretty average—> there is nothing special about you—> your useless

Like my friends having good grades dose not mean I’m useless. What I need is an affirmation for when I feel bad about this. I tried “you have your own strong suits” but that lead to me telling myself again that there was nothing special about me and thus useless.

well I'm gonna answer it this way because I'm gonna give you something that I don't think is talked about a lot with Caleb Williams. I think is real positive I everybody talks about you know the so-called momes element okay and let's put that aside because to use an educational term it's really hard to major in momes. News Summary: Chicago Bears' rookie sensation Caleb Williams is set to take the NFL by storm, igniting excitement among fans and pundits alike. With high expectations and a city hungry for success, Williams' journey promises to be one of triumph and triumph. He's just a special cat and you don't want to start thinking that every quarterback that comes in league is like Patrick Mahomes um what I really like about Caleb Williams is he really controls the ball exceptionally well. What I mean by that is he can place the ball exactly where he wants to place it and sometimes I think that gets over look rich because we focus so much on movement now because of the M the mahomes's because of the Josh Allen the Lamar Jacksons. I'm sure I'm missing some other names as well um but we focus so much on that and there's no question that cayb Williams has that ability we've seen it in college but he really controls the football beautifully and I think when all said and done that's maybe the most critical piece. Because you can do everything right as a quarterback rich but if you can't throw it where you want to you don't really have anything and you think he's got that ability while also doing the off-platform stuff. I mean it's hard not to like Caleb Williams based on tape I mean you know I'm not going to sit here say he's the best quarterback I've seen in you know in 44 years of NFL films um but he's certainly a high level prospect and again having said that do I think he's going to come in and throw 40 touchdowns and five interceptions not likely although he is going to go into a pretty good situation. Normally a number one draft choice does not go into a situation quite like that and I know a question I'm about to deliver is not usually the lane in which you thrive or like to drive Greg but do you agree with the assessment the Bears clearly made to send Justin Fields packing and choose this kid do you agree with it. I do agree with it yes why is that um you know I think Fields has played enough games I believe he started 37 games in this league and one of the things that I think that is just stands out and it's very hard to coach this believe me you've had these conversations. I've had these conversations it's very hard to teach someone to see things clearly when they really don't just innate and I think that's one of the major issues with Justin fields that may never change and if that doesn't change he'll always be a spectacular player who can make special plays and will have special games. But may not just be exactly what you want at the quarterback position long term and based on what you saw out of Russell Wilson last year on tape Greg if this is truly an open competition between these two gents. The training camp opens in Pennsylvania in August do you think it's uh it's a that Fields has a shot at being a week one starter you think Russell's going to take the gig what do you think you know you know me Rich I'm not a a hot take guy yeah know but I would think that based on the way Mike Tomlin talks anyway you know I've not had this conversation with him I actually think that because he wants to run the football and that's important to him it seems to be anyway doesn't it playing physical football doesn't that seem to be important to Mike Tomlin yeah. I would almost think that Justin Fields because of the quarterback run game element would actually give them a more diverse offense than with Russell Wilson neither Fields nor Wilson is a true timing Rhythm passer so you know Fields would give you more options offensively if he was the quarterback if assuming that that's the way they want to play. If they want to run the ball with their two backs Naji Harris and Jaylen War if that's the way they want to play you know and be physical up front and establish that kind of offense then Fields gives you more options well listen I know when you talk about two-way threat quarterbacks. Ryan tanhill is not usually the first couple of names out of somebody's mouth but Arthur Smith had Derk Henry and on Ryan tanhill on the same offense and they they they look pretty damn good there were a couple years there they were really good I mean they went to the AFC Championship game they averaged over 30 points a game that year they almost beat the Chiefs right I mean no question catch the rich eyes. The Green Dragon Part Three

He didn’t know what to do. The princess would not be budged, and his knighthood had essentially depended on him being able to bring Beatrice, to her father. And in this foreign land he was nothing but an out of work squire with a horse. And so, after a while he was employed by the stable where he had previously been stabling his horse. They needed somebody to look after the horse and clean up after him. He was quite good at this, so he settled quickly. Sometimes he saw Beatrice around town doing errands. Looking at the town with new eyes, he realised why they’d been wary. Other knights and princesses had wandered this way before. But they liked Beatrice and the dragon well enough and came to accept that Richard also belonged after a fashion, all were outsiders. The armour that he’d spent so many energies sat in the corner of the room that he lived in.

Town gossip was quick and the news that there was another knight in town caused everyone to gawk at him. When Richard heard of the news, he realised that it was his old master. Sir Lewis picked him out of the crowd and demanded for him to have a drink with him.

As they sat down for beers at the tavern, Sir Lewis started immediately: Lewis roared at him,

“What are you doing boy? You didn’t rescue the princess?” At that Richard shook his head, and Lewis continued.

“What was the point of knighting you if you couldn’t even rescue the princess? And now you are doing work not even a squire would do?”

Richard was taken aback with this outburst. He had been thinking a lot about the way that it had worked out in the long days of manual labour. And he asked Lewis why it had been him to take the princess?

Lewis’ round head almost exploded, and he turned red with a heady combination of alcohol and anger.

“No knight was stupid enough to take on the Green Dragon, but the King and I thought that you would be up to the challenge. I recommended it to you, and you couldn’t even do it. If you come back to the kingdom, you’ll never get work as a squire. You don’t show the appropriate gumption to listen to your king and your knight.”

Richard exploded in return. He’d listened and been deferential. This time was the regroup and consider, and almost then any chance that he felt that his feelings could be trusted were ripped away from him.

“You set me up to fail. If other knights couldn’t defeat the Green Dragon, why did you think that I would? I was a squire that had another year on my apprentice hood and sent me out with that in mind.”

Lewis slammed the rest of his drink into his mouth and walked out. Richard just sat there in disbelief and the barman who had never talked to Richard before this point looked at him and pursed his lips. The barman helpfully told Richard that it was probably a good time to leave as well. Richard was so steamed up from the encounter and the fact that he was the centre of attention that he complied. The brisk air outside on the quick walk home actually helped. And by the time that he made it home he never wanted to go back to the kingdom again.

In some regards he had been given more information and he could see the silences in all his conversations. He also reconsidered if the princess had been used like him and if she had really been all that happy. If he was a pawn in the king's game to rescue Beatrice, then he realised she was treated like a pawn as well. If anything, she was more of a pawn, but he still felt helpless. Her actions were more understandable. Though empathy was activated, he was still worried about his future. He worked aimlessly, no plan. Watching the various people understand that he was around for longer helped him develop more substantive relationships.

Sometime later the green dragon in his human form was spotted walked around town and Richard was just sitting there. He walked to the stable and asked for Richard.

“You’re still here.” He leaned over the railing as sweat dripped off Richard’s face moving the soiled straw into a wheelbarrow.

“Yep”

“You’ve never talked to Beatrice since you’ve been here.”

“Yep.” I mean what could Richard say.

“Heard about your interaction with the other knight.”

“Yep.”

“It takes guts to stick around.”

At this point, Richard turned around and looked like he would walk out.

“I do not have anywhere to go. I have no knighthood; I don’t have a knight to vouch for me. I’m now without a home because my parents effectively sold me in a bid to keep their house after my father had a gambling debt. Beatrice was my ticket to something more. I was a pawn like she was.”

He sank into the remaining straw and just sat there in silence.

And the Green Dragon offered up a soft reply.

“Sounds like you were just as lost as Bea.” He paused and introduced himself. “My name is Landsbide, but you can call me Lan.”

In something that seemed to defy all rules of normalcy, Lan went through the door and was sitting there with Richard. Arm over shoulder and then all dams broke loose into sobbing. Richard tried to speak, to explain himself and Lan told him repeatedly that it wasn’t useful. And then they sat there in silence.

Finally Richard had sobered up and said without many sobs.

“I want to do great things and I want to change the world." A sob came out before he continued.

"But everything that I thought was right turned out to be the wrong way.”

Fresh sobs engulfed him,

“I don’t know what to do Lan”?

And with that Lan had a small smile and wrinkled his nose and reached out his hands and spoke

“How do you think people feel about dragons?”

Richard took his hands and held them.

High Expectations

Selbstandigkeit!

For those who don't speak German, it roughly translates to self-reliance. It's not uncommon to see young kids in Germany preparing their own meals... using public transportation... and walking themselves to school. In Scandinavia, 5 and 6-year olds attend forest school where they learn to whittle and carve with knives as well as start cooking forest. We understand that this might sound daunting -- even terrifying to think of your kids doing that -- but at Makoto we believe ability comes down to expectations.

Do you think a four-year old can help bring in groceries... pull weeds,,, or make the bed? Could a 6-year old vacuum? Or a 10-year old make their own dinner? Developmental experts say the answer is "yes" to all of those things. Most American parents, unfortunately, don't expect their kids to do such things as preparing meals. But why?

Parents might say... "Well, they might hurt themselves," or the all too common "It's just easier (and quicker) to do it myself." At Makoto -- and the Martial Arts Studio -- we have a saying... "If you can do it, we expect you to do it." You see, kids love to please us and show us (as well as themselves) that they are capable of doing many, MANY things. So if we expect them to make the bed, they will. But we have to expect it. We have to give them the opportunity to rise to the occasion.

Now, giving them that occasion may be hard. It can be a struggle for us parents to completely stay out of it and let them do the chore/responsibility all themselves. (After all, we realize that in the beginning we will most likely have to re-wash the dishes that they do). But the end result -- the increase in their confidence, capability, and self-worth -- will totally be worth it.

At Makoto, and The Martial Arts Studio, we always have high expectations for your kids. Because we know that they can do many, many things. And, with work and guidance, rise to every occasion and flourish. Your son or daughter is more capable than you think.
