my favourite ghosts episode is the bone plot.
it makes me sob every single time.
humphreys story is so tragic, he tried so hard to make his wife happy and nothing he did was good enough.
he spent his life alone barely able to speak to his wife and now he's dead bc he can't move around with the other ghosts he's still alone. still barely talks to anyone.
people only ever go to him if they want something. just like his wife.
HUMPHREY DESERVES SO MUCH MORE.

The way the end of this paragraph from OB is phrased is so funny to me
They stopped several times to recover hidden stockpiles in mountain peaks or remote valleys. To find doorways, they often had to hack through five inches of crem. That amount of buildup had probably taken centuries to accumulate, yet Nin spoke of the places as if he’d just left. At one, he was surprised to find the food long since decayed—though fortunately, the gemstone stockpile there had been hidden in a place where it remained exposed to the storms.
There’s no food, but at least there’s Stormlight! :)
I know it means that having access to infused spheres is good, that way they can fly somewhere they can get supplies, but consider:
Szeth: I do not need food
Szeth: I survive only on Stormlight and the misery of my own existence

Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time Link, Majora’s Mask Link) headcanons?
He has a big but closed heart. He’ll help anyone but he won’t open up to anyone. Why bother? He’s lost everyone he’s ever gotten close to. (This eases up a little after he gets together with Malon)
He’s a major introvert. He’s used to being alone and at this point kind of prefers it. He has literally no clue how to emote properly anymore or express himself. Very quiet and soft spoken.
He’s blunt and to the point. It can make him come across as severe, though he doesn’t go out of his way to be rude or anything. He just speaks his mind and doesn’t sugar coat things.
He doesn’t always mix well with authority. He sees the world very differently from most and doesn’t appreciate being told what to do, and when he’s younger he hates being treated like a child. This rubs off into his adulthood as well - if he gets the slightest inkling that he’s being babied or talked down to, he is very unhappy about it.
He’s very spatially aware, and it makes him extremely resourceful and quick on his feet.
He didn’t learn how to read until Talon taught him when he was courting Malon.
He was a very angsty teenager. Felt like no one in the world could ever know him, felt like he didn’t even belong there, felt unseen and unheard and unappreciated, dark, dark moods.
Loves solving puzzles
Takes his duty as a hero seriously, appreciating that he can help others, but still feels inadequate - he’s just a blip in time, forgotten and useless. If only he could leave a lasting mark and ensure that others are helped for years to come…
Has complicated feelings about Zelda. He was 9 when he met her and went on an adventure with Sheik. He was in a 16 year old’s body, which was drawn to her, with a 9 year old’s mind, which didn’t understand the attraction. He trauma bonded to her. He misses her. He sees her in his current timeline Zelda but knows they aren’t the same person and doesn’t know how to reconcile that for a very long time. He’s obsessed with her when he’s a teenager and learns to let the impossibility go as he grows older. He grows to see his own timeline Zelda as her own person, but the ghost of the other never truly leaves, and it makes him keep his distance a bit.

Sailing on a ship in a bottle
Anchor all your thoughts to the bottom
Pulling ropes and pulling your head back
To see what is breaking the foremast
You set sail alone, there is no crew
No one on the deck who can help you
This is all your own battle to win
This is your ship, and you are the captain

ok this sounds insane but in 2018 i went to a few carnivorous plant talks at the botany conference in minnesota. i got caught up in conversation with one of the guys there who was a huge nepenthes guy who told me a story about another collector in the pacific northwest who'd been buying poached plants, like a huge amount, and eventually got staked out by the fish and wildlife service and arrested and had all his plants seized and went to prison for it. idk if i ever talked about this on this blog before-- i know i liveblogged a lot from that conference but cant remember what all i posted-- but ive avoided talking about it since then because i was never able to find like, news articles or anything covering it, but behold.... we now have proof it was real, and im like 80% sure this was this guy he was talking about. the raid happened in 2016 and they'd been staking them out since 2013. he had nearly 400 plants and had been sourcing many of them from poachers in indonesia and borneo.
remember folks: poaching happens with plants too! it's a huge problem not only in carnvirous plants (nepenthes especially, which this piece is dedicated to talking about) but also in native plant populations in the US, including native carnivorous plant populations (north and south carolina's venus fly traps, california's darlingtonia, and sarracenia from the east coast), native orchids (historically one of the most poached categories), desert plants/cacti/succulents, and slow-growing woody ornamentals (cycads, for example). never buy bare-root plants off ebay or facebook! your best bet is local nurseries (which usually purchase farm-raised plants that do well in a wide range of conditions, and as a result have a healthy population in the wild) or specialty greenhouses (more expensive, but at least in the case of carnivorous plants offer young plants bred from established adult plants in-house, raised in captivity).

do you think part of the reason why dokja’s face is so unclear/censored throughout most of the story is because his self as the oldest dream (ie 15 year old him) cant imagine himself surviving to adulthood

Haunted City
Danny could admit that pretending to be a "regular ghost" was pretty fun. He could hide in one place and scare people who were waiting for an open door and a creepy laugh.
Honestly, Danny could do a lot more than that, the ghosts people believed in were nothing like the ones he knew. He wondered if there were simply different types of ghosts, or supernatural creatures; it was quite likely, considering that the ghosts of the Realms weren't even of the same dimension so it wasn't a fair comparison.
Anyway, the halfa had spent a couple of days "haunting" Gotham. The place was too leggy and they needed a little excitement in their lives. Of course, this led to some rumors about a spirit suffering or something similar, he didn't really care.
The "heroes" of Gotham didn't seem to share his opinion, going through all the places that had been "attacked" (they were just jokes) and looking for some explanation before calling Justice League Dark, Danny had fun scaring them a little in the process.
But he wasn't too interested in being exorcised, banished or whatever they did with rebel ghosts, so he settled on a mansion that was too big for its few inhabitants. Scaring billionaires was almost therapeutic, although the butler didn't seem too impressed by his (minimal) efforts.

Prompt:
Instead of going for Tim, Jason goes for the easiest way to utterly destroy his Replacement and kidnaps his civilian boyfriend to demonstrate just how easy it is to lose something (or someone) you love in this line of work.
And while the whole “make the Replacement beg” part of the plan is going amazing…. Jason really didn’t plan the whole “keeping a conspiracy theorist teenager hostage” through to the end.
Bernard just wants to know what the new crime lord’s deal with Robin is. And why— and how— exactly he’s supposed to be a bargaining chip when he can count the times he met Robin on one hand. oh! and could someone maybe tell his boyfriend, Tim, that he’ll be late for their coffee date on Tuesday?

Ok I know we all like to joke about how the Battle of the Five Armies is only a page long in The Hobbit but like. Sometimes I think about how what if Tolkien wrote it that way because he didn’t want his kids to hear about war.

tw: slight suicidal actions (but not really the batfam are wildly clueless to the actual context to danny's bullshit hes not suicidal--in this fic--he's dead get it RIGHT brucie)
Au where Batfam are entirely convinced that the new vigilante in Gotham, danny, has time travel powers because he can vanish away from their senses completely
This becomes a problem however when
Bruce searches for him because wants to save Jason. Danny can save Jason not in the--im a time traveler and i can bring him or you back from or to the past--but in the, I’m a ghost king and have domain over the dead haha
Batfam become really concerned watching Phantom fight because “if he has time travel powers why doesn’t he avoid getting hit every time he can” and get worried phantom is purposefully letting himself get hurt
Danny in all honesty is just vibin the entire time while the batfam is going crazy at every sliver of info they get about danny because like
okay hes a time traveler thats established they got over that
This guy whos somehow been able to stop and rehabilitate rouges (ghosts) in his town is 15??
he may be the kindest most self destructive kid they've ever met like who immediately agrees to help people who were trying to capture and interogate him because he 'thinks we are better than the last billionaire who did this' what the FUCK
Oh yeah and they find out as a bonus in the end that his normal unpowered form he is a teen with black hair and blue eyes (bruce no no dont do it dont--)
---
Bruce is losing his mind
Okay so at the start of this there’s an unknown vigilante (danny) that Batman tends to bump into. Except Batman isn’t sure what he is.
Every time they run into each other Batman can tell there should just be a person beside him but before he gets a glimpse and opens his eyes to empty fresh air.
A vigilante that can vanish before their very eyes?
What do the bats think about this?
They think this vigilante can control time and is doing that to sneak out of their gaze.
Now here’s where the funny part comes in
Bruce goes on a wild hunt to search for the vigilante with a plan. To make them turn back time so that he can save his son.
The problem with this?
Danny is not a time traveler most days–scratch that he's not one at all. He can save his son Jason though, in fact he wants to, it’s just he needs to figure out a way to do this whilst not blowing his cover that he is the goddamn ghost king.
So he pretends that he does have time powers and that he just… uh… needs a minute to figure them out… yeah that!
Cue Batfam getting progressively more worried about Danny because ‘if he could turn back time—why doesn’t he avoid those hits?’
They all kinda think Danny is like purposefully hurting himself so now Danny is forced to eat breakfast with them and sleep at their manor.  I mean he’s confused at why they always look so worried about something but he’ll make sure Batman’s son gets home soon! Plus the rich people temporary-living-situation without all the ‘I want to adopt you’ billionaire bullshit is pretty sweet!!
(somewhere in the ghost zone jason is tearing up laughing at the batfam as they struggle to not burst into flames trying to figure out danny-- like for christs sake they think the ghost king is an american doctor who and are trying to get him to spill where his tardis is)
