They were writing a personal horror story about a group of people visiting an unknown southern town that causes them to immediately forget who they are, and they have to prepare for survival during the day before any supernatural threats appear at night.
With that said, despite myself not being well-versed with things that are scary, I've composed a theme that's somewhat eerie but also has a bit of adrenaline inserted onto it, to reflect the survival duties the characters have to endure.
First I recorded a bunch of ukulele tunes and then I layered them and played them backwards at various speeds and then I recorded myself reading a poem I wrote and then I slapped it onto my favorite scene from Tekkonkinkreet.
horror as a comfort. horror stories as bedtime stories. monsters as the ones who protect us. humans as the monsters all along. horror as therapy. horror being cathartic to the makers and the viewers. horror giving us power over our fears. facing our trauma. horror as a mirror. horror as a reflection of ourselves. a reflection of our society. horror as music. turning simple sounds into soundtracks. horror as songs about monsters and murder that we can sing along to. that we can dance to. horror as toys. costumes. shirts and earrings and socks and figures. shouting to the world. look at the thing I love. horror as self. rooting for the monsters we see ourselves in. hoping the final character(s) makes the right decision. the decision we would make. horror as love. sharing recommendations with friends. hosting viewing parties. making a community. making art. sharing opinions. talking. arguing. laughing. watching. watching again and again.
horror as a language that is universal. unique. done in different ways. always done with love.
