Note
could i get your take on what the companions (or just my favorite boy X6's) top 10 fave candies/foods would be in a modern AU?
anon you are in luck, because I am constantly thinking about the diets and eating habits of my blorbos
The numbered list isn't in any particular order, it's just so I don't have to manually count each point
so
What the companions would eat if not in a post apocalypse
Cait; Wouldn't have a taste for fancier cuisine. Eats more...hick-ish. I can say that because I was a hick with this kind of diet, growing up. Has a taste for filling, cheap, low-effort food...think lots of fast food, but "healthier" fast food. Like Chipotle, Panera, etc. Can cook, doesn't often, but will if she has a craving. Savory or tart tastes. She tends to eat lighter than you'd expect.
Blueberry brownie anything, favors dark chocolate in general
Submarine sandwiches, anything with pickles
Key lime pie
Salt and vinegar chips and thinks critics of such chips are cowards
Peach Redbull, any energy drinks though
Storebought hummus and Doritos, has been seen eating hummus with just a spoon though
Blueberry bread pudding. Simple to make, fun to eat, very comforting. Buys her bread already stale from a local bakery, has a guy to hook her up with the old shit
Seafood chowder
Sausages in any capacity. Jerky sticks, breakfast sausage, etc. Loves chorizo.
Honey buns from the gas station
Curie; Health nut, she eats like every influencer claims they eat like. Only, Curie actually eats like that. Lots of fresh foods and whole grains, little red meat. However, Curie makes a point to have foods that other health nuts would condemn, thinks its really important to not label any food as "bad." So, she balances between health nut and normal person. Her taste leans toward bright and/or sweet. Dislikes red meat.
Salmon breakfast wraps
Tropical fruit smoothies, eats so much pineapple
Iced tea, favors raspberry. Never seen without an iced tea of some kind
Halibut tacos, likes red cabbage and a fuck ton of lemon on it. Soft shells all the way
Bananas foster
Whipped brie dip, eats it with anything but loves it on apples, basically dessert
Lemon pepper grilled chicken and rice
So many salads, loves that you can just throw shit in a bowl and call it a recipe. Likes strawberries and almonds
Lemon poppyseed muffins
Shrimp and bitter melon stir fry
Danse; mixed bag. One on hand, small town diner tastes. Simple, cheap, good ol' American food. On the other, he's doomed to be a soldier in every universe he's in, so...maybe he picks up some tastes and dishes from places he's toured. Gets a weird pallate that shoots in all directions and makes you wonder what it's like in that thick skull. One day he's a good American boy with pancakes and steak, the next he's eating cake mix dry and drinking tahini from a flask.
Anything BBQ, but a pulled pork devotee
Hot coffee so heavily creamed and sugars it looks like milk. He likes the twix combo of chocolate, shortbread, and caramel flavors
Prepackaged baked goods a la Hostess, fucks up little Debbie oatmeal cookies
Apple and pecan pie
Menemen—Turkish dish, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, bell peppers, spices to taste, and (controversially) onions. Adds sausage and cheese, eats it with a fork or spoon (its meant to be eaten with bread)
Khachapuri—Georgian cheesy bread with egg. Eats with a knife and fork. (its meant to be eaten with the bread crust)
Smores pop tarts
Beef and potato stew
Rice bowl with fried egg and avocado, bonus points if it has bacon
Straight cookie dough/brownie/cake batter, usually when he's black out drunk and cannot shame himself out of eating raw egg products.
Deacon; Very childhood comfort food. Y'know, things you had as a kid, but probably grew out of a bit? Eats out of gas stations/takeout frequently. Very open flavor pallete, has tried everything he's had the chance to. Likes one-handed food, stuff you can have the other hand free for. Doesn’t really have a 'theme', has broad horizons for his diet. Likes lighter, mild flavors, though. He eats lightly and on the go a lot.
Hot/corn dogs, taste in hot dog toppings varies
Egg salad sandwiches
French fries and vanilla ice cream, classic combo
Mango sticky rice
Cornbread with any accompaniments. Likes honey or chili, thinks if you have a drink with cornbread, you ain't a real cornhead
Penne alla vodka
Cucumber salad. This could mean a salad with cucumbers, that trending Asian recipe where you cut the cumber so its springy, or eating a cucumber like a hotdog.
Fried mushrooms
Usually just drinks water but will have gator/powerade when he's working. Likes purple flavor
Captain crunch cereal, loves all cereal though. Prefers the kibble stuff to the berries. Starts philosophical debates about the morality of Trix commercials vs Lucky Charms commercials
Gage; His favorite foods reflect his upbringing. Coastal swamp cuisine, cheap and made in bulk. Take Danse's pallate and hyperlocalize it, and then lower the budget by a good amount. Things he grew up eating. Would gradually replace his favorites with pricier, 'less embarrassing' dishes, distances himself from his origins. However, takes care to not looked too loaded. Smokey and savory flavors are his thing, likes more spice than people expect.
Doberge cake, which is layered with pudding, often half-chocolate and half-lemon
Red beans and rice, with stewed pork if they could afford it
Blackened fish of any kind, liked it with cilantro-lime rice
Steak with potatoes and/or eggs
Chronic iced tea drinker like Curie, though he prefers the bitter kinds
Scallops
Brussels sprouts defender and will fight for their honor
Peaches
Was introduced to curry during a business meeting/outing. Could drink that shit from a glass, has it with potatoes and porkchops.
Lobster anything. This is one of those 'less embarresing' things, but he genuinely enjoys a good lobster roll. Even if he prefers a freshly-caught lobster bisque. Again, something he had growing up, something he pushes away.
Hancock; Similar to Deacon, but favors fatty, greasy food. No, it's not the drugs, that's just his metabolism. He's a skinny twink, always starving, can never put on weight. Eats as much as Danse, who is a big guy and needs more calories than most. He's really into street food and foreign dishes, won't eat at a restaurant if they speak fluent English or have good customer service. IYKYK. Very comfort food heavy, lots of "this would slap with Netflix at 2 am"
A classic oxtail, mac and cheese, and collard green take out combo
Any and all American-chinese take out, usually gets eggplant tofu with chow mein and cream cheese rangoons
"Walking tacos", those things where you open a small bag of chips and dump White People taco makings in. Probably just tips the whole thing into his mouth
Yakitori, Japanese chicken skewers, popular bar food
Bloody Mary cocktails
Pizza, will fight for the honor of pineapple. Would really be into how Brazil does pizza
Frozen yogurt and ice cream, piles with toppings
Breakfast sandwiches or wraps. Egg, meat, cheese, doesn't matter the time nor specifics.
Jam donuts, loves cherry fillings
Puppy chow/muddy buddies, chex cereal covered in chocolate and powdered sugar. Eats his weight in them if not careful
MacCready; forces himself to learn how to cook for Duncan's sake, but for himself...good God. It's horrible. Eats like garbage. Would never drink water if not to set an example. Take out, frozen food, so much candy and soda. After Duncan, broadens his horizons. Finds he really likes soups. Just throw shit in a pot and it works. Eats on a budget, so that's a life-saver. Doesn't have a preferred flavor pallete, aside from his love of candy.
Meat lover's pizza. Thinks pineapple has no place on pizza
Used to drink Mountain Dew and diet coke, replaced it with iced teas and more organic fruit juices for the sake of his teeth
Chicken soup, either from a can, or homemade. Either way, slaps. If homemade, blends veggies for a hidden veggie stock. For him, Duncan is a lot better at eating veggies, MacCready needs to trick himself.
Sour rainbow ropes
Cookie crisp cereal, thinks whoever came up with it deserved the sloppiest head. Incredible design, no notes
Cheese and sour cream chips
Famous Amos cookies
Eggo waffles
Gnocchi is God to him. Its superior to all noodles and makes your Shit In The Fridge soup 1000 times better.
Rice pudding is cheap, easy, and a surprisingly efficient sweet-tooth satisfier. Makes it with pumpkin spice mix or chocolate.
Nick; Home-cooked meals all the way. Could kill himself with cheese and die happy. Lots of easy meals and snacking so he can keep working, but will treat himself to a nice, hard-earned dinner when he has the time and energy. Likes himself the smokey, the fresh, or the sour. Probably knows all the best sub shops in the city, probably in a turf war with regulars of rival shops. Jewish delicatessens are like church to him.
Lasanga. Most of his freezer space is lasagna. Eats so much of it. He's lactose intolerant. It hurts but it hurts so good
Latkes. Fried potato things, kind of like hashbrowns, except the potato is mashed/ground instead of grated. And yes. Also pastrami. But those little potato bitches...mmmph.
Red velvet muffins with cream cheese frosting.
Fried cheese in any capacity
A prosciutto, arugula, brie, and fig sandwich
Pickled pearl onions
Cobb salad
Black coffee. Temp doesn't matter, because he's going to forget it until its room temp.
Has been known to enter fugue states and consume an absurd amount of Chicago style hot dogs
Scones or just plain bread with butter and jams
Piper; Broke college student trying to make it as a reporter. Her tastebuds are fucked, they salivate not for flavor, or texture, but for those good, good low prices. Piper's diet is almost entirely snackfood or takeout. If she ever cooks, it's for Nat. But when taking care of just herself, Piper eats from a box or bag. When she does cook, it's very simple meals. Loves her carbs and her fruit flavors
Chicken Ramen with canned chicken and frozen broccoli chucked in. Also makes this for Nat
Hot cheetos, eats with chopsticks
Spaghetti and meatballs
Fruit smoothies/smoothie bowls, blends in veggies as well for the nutrition
Coka cola and anything from Fanta, loves fruit sodas
Anything carbs and I mean that. Eats a lot of bread, pasta, cakes, potatoes...they're the sweetheart of anyone on a budget.
Buffalo cauliflower, likes it more than Buffalo chicken
Chewing gum. Fruit flavors only, hates mint gum. Likes mint elsewhere, just not in gum.
Nickle-nips and other "jelly/juice in a wax package" candies. Likes the charm of it, also, free chewing wax
Suckers/lollipops, big on hard candy in general but the stick satisfies her smoking habit.
Preston; A mix of easy depression/bulk meals and dishes from his childhood. Lots of spices, cooks with a lot of straight peppers. Tends to eat his food 'raw', not made into a dish. Again, easy and quick to eat. Also tends to buy pre-prepared stuff for the same reason, buys more fruits and veggies and just eats them straight. Doesn't care about eating healthy, he just lacks energy to cook most days.
I have no choice to explain this as it has no name. Casserole dish, layer of mashed potatoes, layer of shredded or chunked chicken, layer of white breakfast gravy or brown poultry gravy, top with drop biscuits. It's buttery, its savory, it is white as snow. Easy, cheap, one ladlefull is dinner. You'll get a few meals out of it, and it's so filling you have like, five minutes before you're stuffed. I call it gut-glue.
Dirty rice
Eggs scrambled with spinach
Jollof/jambalaya
Veggies and hummus or ranch
Various fruits and berries such as grapes, cherries, blackberries, and oranges
Shakshouka, eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce and eaten with bread
Chicken biscuits, crackers dusted with, like, chicken bouillon? They taste like a chicken Ramen packet sneezed on a ritz
Slurpees/Icees/those syruped gas station ice drinks
Straight peppers, eats bell peppers like apples. Eats pickled jalapeños and scotch bonnets to feel something. Drinks the liquid in pickle jars instead of alcohol, or mixes it with gelatin and makes pickle jello.
X6-88; Pretensious rich asshole who eats like it. He rarely cooks for himself, probably has a personal chef or something. Maybe his work has their own restaurants, like Google. Eats mostly vegetables, but his favorite foods skew from "Dubai Influencer" to "12 year old who earned too much lawn mowing money and was let loose in a convenience store." So much sugar. Willy Wonka's factory is his idea of heaven and until it exists, he's an atheist.
Raw meats. Steak and tuna tartar, sashimi, and sushi
Braised duck with cherries
Nduja, a spicy pork sausage spread, has it with flatbreads
Oysters. Eats them all fancy in public, eats them from a tin with doritos at home
Anything from Hostess, Little Debbie, those brands. Fucking anything. However, would kill a man for any kind of Swiss roll
Chocolate milk
Gummies, very picky with brands, hates the harder kinds like Haribo. Wants his gummies soft as a marshmellow
Cadbury eggs
Milano dark chocolate cookies
Gushers

List of 25 Writing Exercise
Sometimes when I’m looking to get my brain going to write and I’m coming up dry, I write 1 - 25 in a vertical column on a sheet of paper and force myself to come up with 25 things on theme as quickly and with as little thought as I can. This works best when I write it out by hand. Today’s prompt is 25 things that taste like Christmas to you. Feel free to draw on your families idiosyncrasies. Don’t try to decide whether it tastes like Christmas to anyone else.
If you don’t celebrate Christmas, try another holiday, or think about what you and your family maybe did while avoiding Christmas over saturation in the culture. Idk. Make the prompt your own. I’ll list my 25 below, but I’d love it if other people added on with their Christmas Taste lists. ----------
25 THINGS THAT TASTE LIKE CHRISTMAS
Lindor truffles Burnt decaf Rye Manhattans (with extra cherry juice) Green chili Peppermint bark Egg nog with extra nutmeg chocolate chip cookies Prime rib Gingersnaps Cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven Ribbon candy Too sweet coffee creamer Coffee cake (crumbles not optional) Apple crisp Vanilla ice cream Cherry cough drops See’s Candies Coconut shreds in cookies Coors Light Scalloped potatoes Creamed onions Chicken and noodles served over mashed potatoes Hot chocolate Homemade pecan pie with Ready-Whip Just chewing on a couple of whole cloves right out of the spice rack

in which my followers try to poison and/or kill jake hughes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
welcome to this list. today we are ranking food based on whether or not I think they would poison and or kill jake hughes. enjoy! these are all audience submitted. I claim no responsibility
gombo
honestly, this boy needs a hearty soup to revive him. this could do it. jake hughes would not die from this ❌
cajun boiled peanuts
apparently I'm told that birmingham is known for its curries so he could handle the spices. he would eat one of these and be like "no thank you, don't want any more of that" and be okay. this would not kill him ❌
pecan pie
never had this one but I think it Looks healthy enough (even though there's a lot of sugar) that he could handle it. would not kill him ❌
skittles
Tumblr media
would not kill him ❌
chipotle
given that americans seem to get poisoned by this he would be unaffected by it bc he's a brummie. he would survive ❌
texas chili con carne
same as before except he would enjoy it. ❌
cornbread
he would not enjoy that but he wouldn't die from it. ❌
root beer barrels candy
I've never had these (and I hate root beer sorry) so I can't assess this one. I think he could handle one maybe. might poison him ❓
seafood boil
inconclusive data. I don't know. ❓
lime jello salad
the green dye in there is enough to poison him ✅
hersheys cookies and cream bar
Tumblr media
that shit is 90% wax and sugar but I think he would survive. this would poison him ✅
warheads
Tumblr media
would poison him ✅
whatever this is (corn dipped in flamin hot cheeto sauce?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
well it's got flamin hot cheetos in there so. I don't think jake hughes could handle flamin hot cheetos. this would kill him ✅
the gummy cupcakes that almost killed trac
Tumblr media Tumblr media
contains evil american chemicals. self-explanatory. would kill him ✅
a single takis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll be honest I haven't even got close to one of these, I'm pretty sure they are radioactive. would kill him ✅
cosmic brownies
Tumblr media
would kill him. absolutely no doubt about it ✅

Keep Warm: A Good Omens Holiday Fluff Fic
Rated G. Prompt: "Too quick, mumbled into your scarf" from The way you said "I love you."
“Crowley! Your fingers are so cold!” Aziraphale held a paper cup of hot chocolate in one hand. A stick of striped peppermint candy served as an improvised stirrer. Tiny white marshmallows were already starting to melt on the surface of the sweet drink. The other hand had just reached out to hold Crowley’s.
The demon was just finished with his cone of candied pecans. They had found a booth selling ones with cayenne pepper in the spiced coating, and Aziraphale had finally been able to convince Crowley to actually try some.
“Here.” Aziraphale let go of Crowley’s hand and began to unwind the tartan scarf he had tucked under the lapels of his jacket. It somehow got twisted, and the angel ended up with coils of woven wool looped around his head.
“Angel. What on Earth are you trying to do?” Crowley couldn’t help but smile at the frustrated string of unintelligible syllables that emanated from the tangled mess.
“I’m sorry, what was that?” Crowley carefully unwound the fabric from Aziraphale’s face and settled the scarf back into its original place. The angel’s curls stood out around his face, catching the changing colors of a blinking sting of lights behind him.
“I said,” Aziraphale huffed and smoothed his hair with the hand not holding the hot chocolate. It immediately bounced back up. “That I was just trying to help you keep warm.”
“Ah.” Crowley snapped his fingers. A sleek, black strip of fabric now hung around his neck. He flicked one end of it over his shoulder. “Satisfied?”
“Crowley!” Aziraphale’s admonishment indicated that he was not, in fact, satisfied. “What if someone sees?” He gestured to the street, busy with humans enjoying the holiday fair.
“Relax, no one saw anything.” The demon stepped in close, and lowered his glasses. “Besides, I can think of better ways you could keep me warm.” A mischievous wink flashed at Aziraphale. He raised his hand above them. It was somehow now holding a single sprig of mistletoe. There was even a jolly ribbon tied around the base.*
“Crowley!” Aziraphale’s tone was softer. A blush crept up over the top of his scarf to paint his cheeks a charming shade of pink. He smiled into eyes shining his favorite shade of yellow. “What if someone sees?”
“Let them look, then.” Crowley dipped his head down and claimed a kiss from the sweet lips of his sweetest angel.
---
*The color of which was an appropriately cheerful red. Crowley had briefly considered a green plaid, but had dismissed it on principle.

More canning last night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Walnut Pecan Pear jam this time. It tastes great and as you can see it gelled wonderfully. I'll drop the recipe bellow for anyone who wants it
Ingredients
-3 1/2 pounds of pears, peeled, cored, and diced
-1/3 pound unseasoned walnuts
-1/4 pound unseasoned pecans
-4 1/2 cups sugar
-2.5 oz sugar added pectin
-1 lemon
-Cardamom, sage, vanilla, allspice, salt, bayleaf
Recipe
core and peel pears, save cores and peels.
Juice lemon and put used lemon husk into small pot with cores and peels, add a bayleaf and some water, start boiling, stir occasionally while doing other steps
Put chopped pears into large stock pot. Add like 2 cups of water and put on high heat. Add in all lemon juice. Don't let this burn.
Medium chop and break up pecan and walnut mixture, toast in a saucepan till fragrant and browned but not burnt, add spices to your liking to bloom on the heat. Stir rapidly and add a splash of water and a bit of your sugar to start to candy the nuts. Remove from heat and set aside once nuts are properly glazed and taste amazing. If you are using vanilla extract this is the point to add a little bit.
Strain lemon peel and core mixture, putting the liquid into the stock pot with the chopped pears.
While this is starting to boil get your cans hot and sanitized and prepare your canning setup.
Boil pears until the majority of the liquid is gone but it's not dry. Transfer to a blender or use an immersion blender to smooth.
Add all remaining sugar. Boil for 1 minute. This is a boil where stirring doesn't stop the bubbling.
Add pectin, boil for 2 minutes, once again this is the kind of boil where it doesn't stop bubbling.
Add in nut mixture and stir thoroughly. While still hot pour or ladle into hot sanitized cans, wiping off excess spills especially around the rim.
Can as per usual procedure. I do a boiling water bath for 15-20 minutes. They won't take immediately but will always seal properly overnight.

"Imaginary King of the Hill" Perfumes I came up with
Are You Attempting To Know Me?
Distinctive top notes of pine needles floating in a bottle of intensely yellow-green citrus soda fade into heady musk and light amber, over an accord of heavy smoke. Energetic and animalic with a touch of ash.
Buckley’s Angel
The balmy breeze of a Texas evening in May. Green, powdery, and cool, with a hint of sweet-herbaceous thistle.
Christian Puppet Show
Reminiscent of childhood and Sunday School. Top notes of bubblegum and magic marker. New carpet, grape juice in a paper cup, a base of comforting vanilla and old wood paneling.
Cookie Genius
A weekend spent baking with your first crush. Warm vanilla bean cookies, toasty coconut, a drip of salted caramel, and chocolate frosting made from scratch. A sweet and fun gourmand scent with complexity.
Dang Ol’ Perfume, Man
A cheetah print bikini brief, powdery lipstick on a clean cotton t-shirt– Green notes and aromatic citrus make for a bold first impression, followed by strong base notes of skin musk cooled with blue musk.
I’ll Tell you What
Masculine floral and herbaceous top notes–sweet grass burning next door, your freshly mowed lawn, Texas bluebonnets. Heart notes of damp dirt and the fizz of a cold beer. The smell of a barbeque get-together in a well maintained back yard.
Margarrrrrrrrrita
A daring cocktail unlike any other. Yellow flowers and cactus blossom muddled into spiced golden tequila with bright lime juice creates a confident cascade of top notes; an equally zesty rim of crushed pink peppercorns, lightly smoked sea salt, and blood orange zest complimented with slices of candied jalapeno. A subtle spicy and woodsy accord reminiscent of pencil shavings and fresh shoe leather.
Sergeant Barber
A hate it/love it scent. Pungent and salty ambergris goes between elegant and offensive, while woody, powdery iris root turns medical with notes of juniper. An unusual topnote of musky patchouli.  Smells like getting your hair cut on a humid porch overlooking the swamp when the plants are hot from the sun
That’s My Purse– I Don’t Know You!
Wood notes– playground wood chips, scratched off bark, a bowl of roasted hazelnuts and candied pecans, brought together with dried oakmoss and cedarwood.
This Tastes Like Turtles
A smear of powdery pink lipstick on herbaceous marigolds, the scent of pink peppercorn and sweet dahlia flowers carried on a cool Mexican sea breeze. Spicy, fresh, and sweet.
Yep. Yup. Mmhmm. Sigh.
Drinking a light beer on freshly cut grass warmed by the hot sun, clean t-shirt white musk, a surprisingly masculine blend of the neighbor’s rose bushes, motor oil on asphalt, and house paint.

Autumn asks: Candy Corn, Cozy, Frost, Maze, Pie, Pumpkin Spice, Sweaters, Trains
Hello Rebekah! Thank you for the abundant ask!! :D
Candy Corn - what's your favorite candy?
ROLOS. I adore the smooth mouthfeel of the chocolate and the caramel. And the contrast of flavors and solidities. And caramel is one of the greatest of God's flavors. I could completely believe that there's an angel of caramelization. Caramel is divinely inspired.
Cozy - describe your ideal fall day.
I am with my family. I get up early and read the Bible. Dad made one of his famous breakfasts (he is the Breakfast Foods King. His waffles and monkey bread and french toast are to die for.) I go out to a coffee shop with a friend and then we walk around the town, popping into shops and enjoying the weather—crisp jacket-weather, a bit windy, we giggle as the wind messes up our hair. In the afternoon, I come home and chill with a book or perhaps a sewing project. At night, my whole family has one of our rare movie nights.
Frost- anything you're looking forward to?
Yes! The bittersweet end of ceramics class, when I finish my bear-knobbed vessel and bring it home.
Maze - apple picking or pumpkin patch?
Pumpkin patch because I've never been to one! I enjoy apple picking & apple-based foods are chef's KISS. But pumpkins are just so cute!! I think it would be fun. And I know I like pumpkin carving, especially in a group when everyone can groan about the gross innards together.
Pie - what's your favorite type of pie?
I have four: apple pie, pumpkin pie, whipped-cream pie, and cookie-dough pie. But I'm drooling over the idea of cookie-dough pie right now! Technically it's a pecan pie. But the filling is more like gooey cookie dough with ample chocolate chips and pecan chunks. It hardens into a thick, brittle crust on top, and it's burning hot for a long time after you take it from the oven. It's so buttery that the bottom crust gets noticeably butter-soaked once the pie has sat for a while. It's good cold, it's good hot, it's REALLY good with ice cream, and a single thin slice can feed a man for two days. Not really. But it is filling, for obvious reasons.
Pumpkin Spice - favorite seasonal drink?
Egg nog my beloved :)
Sweaters - what's your go-to fall outfit?
If I'm really feeling the autumnal vibes? Brown boots. Rough pants (jeans, preferably the oak-leaf green ones.) Black shirt. T-shirt over the black shirt. Brown leather jacket. (or a green poncho or cape!! I have two very flowy ones that make me feel like an elf.)
Trains - if you could spend the fall anywhere, where would you go?
Ahhhh... <3 honestly, I'm more than content with Iowa in the fall. (perfect weather.) But I'm told that England is beautiful, and I would dearly love to visit the lake district. Maybe I'd go there.

I have a few questions about Jean.
What is his favourite meal?
What is his favourite junk food?
What is his favourite snack?
What is his favourite hot drink?
What is his favourite cold drink?
What is his favourite chocolate/candy?
What is his favourite sweet pie?
What is his favourite thing about you?
What is his favourite memory of you in your ship?
Hope this isn't too much!
Jelly! Oh oh okay here we go :)
What is his favourite meal?
If someone else is making it (since it can be lots of work LOL) he quite likes butternut squash soup that include carrots and apples and is topped with pumpkin seeds. He'll eat it warm during winter and cold during summer!
What is his favourite junk food?
Is pasta a junk food? Okay so yeah he eats healthy but he does love his carbs and I think pasta is his favorite! Just a plate of spaghetti and red sauce with lots of cheese.
What is his favourite snack?
Buttered popcorn! He only has it once a week maybe cause he can eat a lot. He likes to make it on the stove and pour melted butter over it in a big bowl.
What is his favourite hot drink?
Spiced vanilla black tea with a splash of almond milk. He likes to have it midmorning.
What is his favourite cold drink?
He really enjoys ice cold water. If he's splurging, a glass of strawberry lemonade will satisfy his taste buds.
What is his favourite chocolate/candy?
He likes Carmello bars, milk chocolate filled with caramel! Besides chocolate he likes Skittles, classic or sour. Lime is his favorite.
What is his favourite sweet pie?
Ginger lemon strawberry pie with a pecan crust. There's some brown sugar and cinnamon in there as well and topped with whipped cream and pecan pieces.
What is his favourite thing about you?
The way you, or well, I match his sarcasm and humor in a positive way that doesn't annoy him (Eren, Connie). You know when to challenge him but also when not to, if maybe he's having a hard day. He loves how in tune you are to him especially when he doesn't directly know how to say things.
What is his favourite memory of you in your ship?
(Am I cheating here?) Not specific, being in the kitchen together. Making breakfast, dinner, baking, etc.
Specifically, adopting our yellow lab, Murphy, who is basically our first child. Jean had been wanting a dog and I quietly started looking and found 6 month old Murphy at a shelter and told Jean today was the day. His face lit up and we were in the car to go pick him up before we could even get the house ready.
Otherwise, a date we had a few months into the relationship. Things had been kept pretty casual and we were going to a nice dinner and that was one of the first times he saw me in a pretty dress. I usually wore jeans and a shirt or maybe a simple day dress, but that night I put in extra effort and after all of our conversations about comfort being key, and here I am with my hair done and an evening dress and shoes and a maaaaybe a touch of makeup, he almost fell to the floor. It wasn't just my look (which he commented on was beautiful) but the fact I would do things or try things that I didn't mind doing but just normally didn't, knowing it would make him happy. It was a great evening that ended it going home to change into pajamas and staying up late playing video games!

There’s still time to bake those cookies....
Here’s a preview of my column that will publish soon.....
Tumblr media
Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, Christmas trees, stars, candy canes, sleighs and snowmen all are popular flavors and/or shapes of holiday cookies. After Thanksgiving, cookie sheets are dusted-off, and heirloom family cookie recipes are dug up so we can begin to bake and share sweet treats with family and friends. Beautiful tins of cookies travel through the mail to those we love, who are not nearby.  There are families who bake cookies together virtually, too, especially if they are not around the corner.
Although National Cookie Day was December 4, let’s continue the celebration by learning a “bite” about a favorite treat and adding a few new creations to the cookie repertoire.
My research found that the term “cookie” is derived from “koekje,” the Dutch word for “little cake.” According to culinary history, to test oven temperatures before putting a cake in the oven, a small amount of batter was baked — and voila, the cookie was born.
Wikipedia says, “the earliest examples of Christmas cookies in the United States were brought by the Dutch in the early 17th century. Due to a wide range of cheap imported products from Germany between 1871 and 1906, following a change to importation laws, cookie cutters became available in American markets. These imported cookie cutters often depicted highly stylized images with subjects designed to hang on Christmas trees. Due to the availability of these utensils, recipes began to appear in cookbooks designed to use them. In the early 20th century, U.S. merchants were also importing decorated lebkuchen cookies from Germany to be used as presents.”
Speaking of cookie cutters, did you know there is a National Cookie Cutter Historical Museum in Joplin, Mo.?
According to the cookie Elf www.cookie-elf.com:
·      Americans consume over 2 billion cookies a year … about 300 cookies for each person.
·      Half the cookies baked in American homes each year are chocolate chip.
·      Girl Scouts sells 200 million boxes of cookies a year.

Dutch Spice Cookies
The author writes, “I’ve been making these Dutch spice cookies since Sailor and West were teeny-tiny. At Christmastime, we like to celebrate the Dutch tradition of Santa Claus. Sailor and West leave their shoes by the fireplace, and ‘Sinter Klaas’ fills their shoes with candy and these Dutch cookies that I bake the night before. It’s also a tradition to get new shoes this night since I don’t like the idea of leaving candy and cookies by used shoes. Ha!”
“You’ll recognize the warm, comforting flavors in these cookies from cookie butter, which has become so popular in the United States. In fact, if you want to make a little cookie butter, just crumble a few of these cookies and puree them with a little butter and condensed milk to form a peanut butter- like consistency. There you go: cookie butter!”
 ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
½ teaspoon cloves
½ teaspoon nutmeg
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the work surface
In a large bowl, mix the butter and sugar until light and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add the egg and stir to combine. Sprinkle the salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves and nutmeg over the batter. Mix for 2 minutes, or until all the spices and powders are thoroughly combined. Gently stir in the flour. Gather the dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours, or up to 1 week. About 15 minutes before you are ready to bake, take the cookie dough out and leave it on the counter. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Lightly flour a work surface. Roll the dough to a thickness of ¼ to ½ inch.  You can use a special Dutch cookie cutter, but I like to cut the cookies into rectangles. Simple! Bake the cookies on the prepared cookie sheets, leaving about 1 inch of space between cookies, for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until starting to brown on the edges. Makes 40 cookies.

White Chocolate-Dipped Ginger Crinkles
The headnote says, “Do you ever get invited to those Christmas cookie exchange parties? I never know what to bring. Ironic, right? The best thing that ever happened to me at a cookie exchange was getting this gingersnap recipe. The cookies are gorgeous — full of deep crinkles and a sparkly sugar coating — but wait, there’s more! These pretty Christmas treats are dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with red and green sprinkles — like they’re all wrapped up for Christmas. Look for holly sprinkles if you want to make these extra festive.”
 ¾ cup vegetable shortening, softened
1 cup granulated sugar, plus more for rolling
¼ teaspoon molasses
½ teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon ginger
2 cups all-purpose flour
8 ounces white chocolate melting discs, or white vanilla-almond bark
Red and green sprinkles
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line three cookie sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add  molasses, salt and egg, mixing until well combined. There should be no streaks of egg or molasses. Sprinkle the cinnamon, baking soda and ginger over the dough. Stir until well combined. Gently mix in the flour. Shape dough into ¾-inch balls. You should have about 36 balls. Roll each one in sugar and place on the cookie sheets with 2 inches between each cookie. Bake the cookies for 12 to 15 minutes, or until crinkled and puffed. Cool for 5 minutes on the cookie sheets. Transfer to a rack and cool completely.
Melt white chocolate according to package directions. Dip half of each cookie in the chocolate and sprinkle the dipped side with the red and green sprinkles. Return to rack and let the cookies rest until the chocolate is completely set. If you need the chocolate to set quickly, you can put the cookies in the fridge. Makes about 36 cookies.

Glazed Cinnamon Roll Cookies
The headnote says, “Don’t let the tiny little bit of yeast in this cookie scare you away. You don’t have to do anything special. You can treat it like any other dry ingredient — just throw it in the dough when you add your salt. The little bit of yeast is going to give these cookies a tiny bit of lift and a little bit of the raised dough flavor that you associate with fluffy, homemade cinnamon rolls. They take a little bit of patience since the dough needs to chill for at least 4 hours. I usually just make them the day before. I love these cookies with a traditional vanilla glaze on top, but I also love them with an orange glaze (just add a teaspoon of orange zest and use orange juice instead of milk), or a maple glaze (trade the vanilla for maple extract). These might be my mom’s favorite cookies in the whole book. She loves to tell her friends about them.”
Cookies
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
½ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon active dry or rapid rise yeast
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 1/3  cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the work surface and as needed
¼ cup brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Glaze
 ¾ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
To make the cookies, in a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla. Sprinkle the salt, yeast, and baking powder over the top. Mix well. Gently stir in the flour. The dough should be the texture of Play-Doh. Add additional flour as necessary, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough is  slightly sticky.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 15-inch-by-7-inch rectangle. Sprinkle the dough with the brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll up the dough, starting with the long edge, into a cylinder. The dough might tear a little, but just keep patiently working and rolling. Any little rips will not show up in the final product. Pinch the dough to seal it tightly at the seam. Wrap the dough in waxed paper and place in the fridge. The cylinder of dough usually stretches a little. I notice that it’s usually about 18 inches long by the time I get it to the fridge. Chill the dough for at least 4 hours, or up to 1 week. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Slice the dough into ½-inch rounds and place on the baking sheets. Bake until just set and golden brown on the bottom, around 8 to 10 minutes. Prepare the glaze by combining powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until smooth. Dip the top of the cooled cookies in the glaze. Makes about 36 cookies.

New York City Giant Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies
1 cup unsalted butter, cold1 cup brown sugar, packed
½ cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ cup cornstarch
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups chopped walnuts
Put the butter in a large, microwaveable bowl and microwave on high for about 20 seconds to soften — not melt — the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and granulated sugar. With a wooden spoon or an electric mixer, beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and stir until well combined. Sprinkle the salt, baking powder, baking soda and cornstarch over the dough. Stir or beat for 1 minute. Add the flour and stir very gently until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and the walnuts. Shape the dough into 8 equal balls. I like to gather the dough into a giant ball and cut it in half, then divide it in half again, and then again to get 8 semi-equal pieces. Place the balls on a plate and chill, uncovered in the fridge, for 2 to 4 hours. If you chill the dough longer it will take just a few more minutes to bake, which is fine, but be ready to adjust your bake time. While the dough is chilling, preheat the oven to 415 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Transfer dough balls to the baking sheets, spacing them out evenly. Bake one tray at a time on the center rack until tops of the cookies are just starting to brown, about 11 to 13 minutes. You can rotate the pan if the cookies are browning unevenly. Let the cookies cool for 10 minutes on the baking sheet before devouring, or before moving them to a rack to cool completely. The cookies are at their best after 10 minutes of rest when the chocolate chips are ooey gooey, but they will still be delicious after a few days. The chips will be set, but the cookies will still be soft and tender inside. Makes 8 giant cookies.

Keep Warm: A little Good Omens holiday fluff
Prompt: "Too quick, mumbled into your scarf" from The way you said "I love you."
“Oh!
The demon was finished with his cone of candied pecans. They had found a booth selling ones with cayenne pepper in the spiced coating, and Aziraphale had finally been able to convince Crowley to actually try some.
“Here.” Aziraphale let go of Crowley’s hand and used it to unwind the tartan scarf he had tucked under the lapels of his jacket.
“Relax, no one saw anything.” The demon stepped in close, and lowered his dark glasses.
A blush creeped up over the top of his scarf to paint his cheeks a charming shade of pink. He smiled into eyes his favorite shade of yellow. “What if someone sees?”
“Let them look, then.” Crowley dipped his head down and claimed a kiss from the sweet lips of his sweetest angel.

*The color of which was an appropriately cheerful red. Crowley had briefly considered a green plaid, but had dismissed it on principle.
