Musings...
Just a few Rose and Hugo headcanons   There was no denying that Rose inherited Ron’s temper and his knack for throwing a punch. While she was blessed with her Mum’s brains, thanks to her Dad, she also acquired a laid-back attitude that her Mum sorely lacked in her school days. By the time she was seven, Hermione (and more commonly Ron) had tended to everything from minor scratches and bruises to broken bones. That, however, had not deterred the young Granger-Weasley in the least; more often than not, Hermione found the father-daughter duo quietly discussing and laughing about the best tactics of self-defence by means that did not need a wand. Hermione had no doubt whatsoever that Rose would eventually inherit her Aunt Ginny’s spot in the Gryffindor Quidditch team once was at Hogwarts. She’d  probably also land in detention (proudly) for punching any bloke who was foolish enough to bully her for her bushy red hair. It was just a matter of time.   Hugo, however, was the quieter of the two. There were less scratches to mend the second time. That, however, by no means was a consolation. Hermione and Ron soon found out that he had inherited two of Ron’s more powerful qualities - strategy and dry wit. But then, he had also inherited Ron’s heart. Ever since he was three, he was frequently found chatting away with Molly, helping her in any way he could while she prepared the Weasley feasts. As he grew older, he would also be the one who would curl up in one of the oversized armchairs in their living spaces, hiding behind a book while other kids created a ruckus but throw the wittiest one-lines. It would cause not just the younger lot but also his Uncles to roar in laughter.  He was his Uncle Charlie’s  favourite and Hermione knew, Hugo would be the one who would spend a majority of his time lurking around Hagrid (to Hagrid’s immense pleasure no doubt but even thinking about it gave Hermione sleepless nights). She had already decided to drop McGonagall a note as soon as Hugo received his letter. In all honesty, Hermione was more worried about anyone who’d think it fun to mess with Hugo. As Ron joked, they wouldn’t know what hit them and Hugo would not even get caught. Hermione did not find it quite as funny.
But all in all, every time she looked at her children, her heart was so full that she feared she’d jinx it. Her eyes would instantly seek out Ron, feeling utterly grateful and blessed to call him hers and for the two miracles they had created together.

More Gotham Rogues Daemon Headcanons
Because there is very little information on some of these characters, a lot of this is extrapolation about their personality based on multiple different versions of them.
Yes I know Ragdoll is a Flash villain and Lex Luthor is a Superman villain but I like them and they have had run ins with Batman before sooo
No one:
Me:
1. Basil Karlo (Clayface): Mandrill named Norma. Basil was an actor in horror movies so I named his daemon after Norman Bates mother Norma from the movie Psycho. Norma also mean “the standard or norm” which is fitting because of Basil’s ability to change shape and act as a normal citizen. I view primates as being outgoing, charismatic, manipulative, and curious. It was apparent from the start that Basil would have a primate daemon. I chose a Mandrill specifically because they are so colorful and extra looking but also aggressive and defensive which I think is a good way to exhibit both depictions of Basils character as either a misunderstood monster (and thus defensive and protective but well meaning and social) or a cunning ex celebrity (aggressive and attention getting while still being manipulative).
2. Roman Sionis (Black Mask): Black Vulture named Genesis. Genesis because it means new or beginning which is the same meaning as Janus which is the name of the cosmetics company Roman used to run and also because I like the irony of naming a vulture something that means “beginning” when they symbolize endings. Vultures are resourceful, intelligent, and opportunistic individuals who have unique interests and are not afraid of an ugly truth. Roman is obsessed with masks and the things they hide, he seeks to make people into their true selves and had an entire cult like following in which members would mutilate their faces to reveal their “true faces.” Similarly, the Black Vulture has no feathers on its head or face, revealing its skin. Vultures are pretty ugly birds so I think it’s fair they should represent ugly truths, they are also aggressive scavengers and Roman is not only opportunistic but he also tortures people.
3. Floyd Lawton (Deadshot): Coyote named Beretta. Beretta like the gun and because it sounds badass. Wild Dogs in general are rebellious types loyal to very few and Floyd had a rough childhood full of abuse so I think it makes perfect sense that he would have a larger daemon for comfort or protection. Coyotes do not trust easily and are extremely resourceful, cunning, and observant. Floyd is an accomplished mercenary and to be as successful as Floyd and pull off the shots he does he has to be all of these things. Wild Dogs are also very loyal even if it’s only toward a few people and Floyd used to have an older brother he adored and accidentally killed. In the movie Suicide Squad he also has a daughter he loves and visits so clearly he is a family oriented person. Coyotes, being pack animals, are a perfect representation of his character.
4. Garfield Lynns (Firefly): Spotted Skunk named Bridget. Bridget means fire and is also a reference to the Gotham tv show where Firefly is a woman named Bridget. Garfield is a practical, self assured, competitive, stubborn, obsessive, “what you see is what you get,” kind of person. He is very Abrasive™️ and intimidating so you would think he’d have a predator daemon right? Wrong. Musteloids (badgers, skunks, wolverines etc.) are curious ambiverts who come alive when something sparks their interest and aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Garfield definitely is obsessive, reckless and not afraid to get his hands dirty. Also skunks are definitely Abrasive™️. I chose the spotted skunk because they do this rad little handstand when they’re threatening to spray you.
5. Hugo Strange (Strange): European Polecat named Guinevere. Guinevere was said to be the beautiful and manipulative queen of Camelot and Strange is a very manipulative person. The name also sounds upperclass (being the name of a queen and all) which I think is fitting as well. Hugo is a weasely little bitch and nothing can change my mind. He’s sneaky, inquisitive and won’t take no for an answer. See? Weasel. He’s tenacious, proud, competitive, stubborn and a show off but definitely manipulative and obviously shady. Which is why I chose a polecat because they’re just wild, less friendly ferrets.
6. Drury Walker (KillerMoth): Purple Sandpiper named Dulcinea. Okay so, Drury means “sweetheart” in some translations and anytime I hear Drury’s name I think of the muffin man lol. Dulcinea also means sweet. Drury is the type of person who sticks to their comfort zone and is Very Proud of their successes, he knows how to make the most of a bad situation. The thing about Drury is he has good ideas he just doesn’t execute them very well. I like to think sandpipers are these kind of anxious peace keepers that are much more confident in groups. They don’t like to fight and prefer a more harmonious, undisturbed environment. I chose a purple sandpiper because his costume is purple, it ain’t that deep.
7. Kirk Langstrom (Man-bat): Little Owl named Carmilla. Carmilla is kind of like the Dracula before Dracula and also a lady rather than a man. Carmilla is also the name of one of the main antagonists in the Castlevania tv series, basically it’s a really famous vampire name which I though was only appropriate considering Kirks obsession with bats, bat people, and his later transformation into Man-bat. He’s not emotional and intuitive enough to be a bat but he is logical and precise enough to be an owl. He’s the type of person who is all about knowledge just for the sake of it. I chose the Little Owl because I view smaller owls as being more open to affection and Kirk does have a family that he is close too in a few iterations of the character. They are also dutiful, private, and very self-sufficient. Kirk is kind of a workaholic so I think this suits him.
8. Ra’s al Ghul (Demons Head): Egyptian Cobra named Awamira. Awamira is an Arabic name meaning “long-lived.” Snakes are sly, observant, mysterious, intellectuals who plan to endure. A snake is always three steps ahead of others. Cobras are deadly, efficient, arrogant, and vain, (there’s a reason they call a certain subspecies a “king” Cobra) but I also think of them as fairly wise. Ra’s being hundreds of years old and coming from a small Arabic tribe is very knowledgeable while still being very prideful and obsessed with tradition. The Egyptian Cobra is also the Cobra thought to be the weapon for Cleopatras suicide. Ra’s is very domineering and Cobras strike me as “my way or the highway,” types.
9. Talia al Ghul (Talia): Amazonian Palm Viper named Karim. Karim is a Muslim name and one of the 99 names of Allah. It means generous, noble, and esteemed. Of course Ra’s daemon would name Talia’s after a god. See above description of what snakes are like. Other than that I think Vipers in particular are very slow to trust if they ever trust at all, they are also very secretive and charming, practical, intuitive and efficient. Talia is a very secretive person (she kept Damian a secret for years) she frequently charms people into letting their guard down around her and in that way reminds me of an ambush predator. Talia’s beauty is a weapon and this pale green snake would match her eyes perfectly, I like to think she would wear her soul like jewelry.
10. Arnold Wesker (Ventriloquist/Scarface): Blue Tan Mouse names Odessa. Odessa is a feminine form of Odysseus which means anger, rage, or hatred. Arnold is a very timid man with tons of repressed rage that manifests itself as Scarface the puppet. I think it’s only natural his soul is named after it. Mice are timid anxious creatures but intelligent, they are adaptable and like to keep out of the spotlight, keep in mind Wesker would have settled before he ever developed Scarface. I specified that Odessa would have a blue tan pattern (grey blue fur on top with a rusty tan stomach) because it is reminiscent of the color of suits Arnold wears in early comic book drawings of him and because it represents his two sides (the timid Arnold and his repressed rage which is then projected into the puppet Scarface).
11. Julian Day (Calendar Man): Spiny Orb Weaver named Augusta. In the Gregorian Calendar the month Quintilis was changed to July in honor of Julius Caesar after he died in 44 BC. Later, the month Sextilis was renamed August in honor of Roman Emperor Augustus in 8 BC. Julian is a form of Julius and Augusta is a form of Augustus. Julian is an intelligent, creative, manipulative planner who views his crimes as artwork. That sounds very spider-like to me. I picked the orb weaver because orb weavers are diligent, unique, perfectionists and the spiny orb weaver because they are prickly and thus symbolically asocial. They come in multiple colors but I think the white one with the red spikes suits him best because of the dramatic high color contrast and because it mimics the red and white colors of a traditional calendar.
12. Arthur Brown (Cluemaster): Tanuki named Faustina. Originally I was going to name her after one of the characters from the board game Clue and found out that professor Plum’s first name was Edgar but I couldn’t find a feminine form of Edgar that I liked so I just stuck to the meaning of Edgar which is just “fortune.” Fortune is a perfect meaning considering Arthur’s penchant for game shows. Faust means fortune and Faustina is the feminine form of Faust who, according to Germanic legend, sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads for unlimited knowledge. A Tanuki is basically an extra round fox with raccoon makeup and thus I think the symbolism of both applies. If you read my earlier Gotham Rouges Daemon Post then you know I assigned Riddler a Fennec Fox and I think it’s funny that knockoff Riddler would have a Fox but slightly to the left. Foxes are clever tricksters and raccoons are nosey, creative, and lazy. A mix of both is a Tanuki which there are many Japanese legends about.
13. Slade Wilson (Deathstroke): Black Cougar named Sheila. Sheila in this case is the Gaelic form of the Latin Cecilia meaning blind. You know, because Slade is blind in one eye after his own hubris caused him to risk his sons life, also because Sheila is a badass name. Wild cats are very powerful and driven individuals just like Slade. Cougars in particular are decisive and impactful individuals who look after their own. I think the black is indicative of someone a little more private and cynical, someone who has an even more driven “do or die” attitude than the normal lighter colored cougar. He takes everything very seriously.
14. Lazlo Valentin (Professor Pyg): Red Junglefowl named Galatea. Professor Pyg’s name and character comes from the legend of Pygmalion. Pygmalion was lonely and carved himself the perfect wife out of ivory, he named the statue Galatea. I view chickens as being driven and nurturing but still having high expectations of themselves and others, they’re perfectionists for sure and flightless birds are sort of unconventional. Pyg’s idea of perfect and the way he expects everyone to conform to that is both unconventional and overbearing. I genuinely don’t think he’s being purposefully cruel to his victims and that he really does intend to help them or “fix” their imperfections. I also think that he sees his victims as a sort of extended family and I just like the idea of him having a farm animal considering his whole pig theme. I think the type of chicken would be undomesticated since he’s so cutthroat (literally) and he’d be a red junglefowl because the hens of that breed are more colorful (beautiful) than the hens of other junglefowl breeds.
15. Thomas Elliot (Hush): Stripe Necked Mongoose named Liridona. Liridona means “one who longs for freedom,” Thomas’s mother kept him in the family mansion most of the time under threat that if he didn’t stay close to her she would stop paying for him to go to med school. Thomas was jealous of Bruce because, at the time, Bruce was traveling the world while Thomas was stuck in Gotham. He is self-serving and ambitious with an “ends justify the means,” outlook. He is an ambiverted and audacious individual who isn't thrown by challenges. He was one of the only children to befriend Bruce because other children were intimidated by the Wayne family reputation. People with mongooses are also very opportunistic and curious, adventurous people who keep to themselves unless threatened in some way. Thomas was envious of Bruce as a young adult when Bruce got to travel the world while Thomas was stuck under the control of his mother and eventually had to see a therapist for his anger issues after attacking another kid at summer camp for making fun of him. Thomas was never really aggressive unless provoked. He known for being hot-headed and tenacious, willing to go to any length to achieve his goals, even murder. Thomas had an abusive father and a mother who always looked the other way. Thomas eventually killed both of them. He is also an accomplished strategist who was capable of outmaneuvering Bruce as a child and Mongooses are known for preying on snakes which I think implies that they are very tenacious and intelligent people. I picked the Stripe Necked Mongoose because it’s fur has a more red tint to it.
16. Maximilian Zeus (Maxie Zeus): Golden Eagle named Ladina. Ladina means “glory and domination,” enough said. I think of eagles as being sort of proud, confident, self-centered and overambitious people. Also obviously eagles are a symbol of Zeus and I think that as a history teacher Maxie’s daemon taking the form of an eagle would have encouraged his delusion that he’s a Greek god.
17. Mitchell Mayo (Condiment King): Red Dachshund named Violette. Violette like the color violet which is associated with royalty and also like Violette from the movie Jawbreaker. Jawbreaker was like the Mean Girls before Mean Girls and Fern Mayo was like the Kadie Heron of the group. Mayo changed her name to Violette as she grew in popularity. Besides sharing a last name, both Mitchell and Fern are outcast characters and I like to think Violette is a name that represents what both characters wish to be. Honestly picked a wiener dog because he just gives me small dog vibes (what with being not so evil for a villain) and because, I mean, hotdogs. Iconic.
18. Charles Brown (Kite man): Kakapo named Tuuli. Tuuli means “wind,” there is irony in naming a flightless bird wind. Ah yes, Kite Man has a flightless bird. This is some guess work but I think Kite Mans obsession with flight has to do with the feeling of wishing for things that are just out of reach. Idk I think Kite Man is a dreamer and we just don’t see much of him in media to know that but he strikes me as both an idealist and an optimist.
19. Barton Mathis (Dollmaker): Cassowary named Anatolia. Actually based on the criminal Anatoly Moskovin who would dig little girls out of their graves, dress them up like dolls, and take care of them as though they were alive. Cassowaries are assertive, proud, and possessive they are quiet types until something catches their attention and they tend to get obsessive with their passions. They’re the type to be the mom friend but they rarely show such caution and restraint in their own behavior. “Do as I say not as I do.” There are various interpretations of this character, sometimes he is a complete psychopath who makes dolls out of children because he is a sadist, sometimes he is portrayed as a human trafficker, and sometimes he is a disturbed man with a child like mentality who is lonely and views the children he kidnaps as a collection of toys to play with. I feel like the Cassowary covers all of these versions of the character because they are dangerous and aggressive animals while still being large family oriented birds (these birds come in large groups) so one one hand they are aggressive and potentially sadistic and on the other they are protective of something they either view as their property or their family.
20. Peter Merkel (Ragdoll): Silky Anteater named Marcella. Marcella was the deceased 13 year old daughter of Johnny Gruelle who created Raggedy Ann as a tribute to her. Peter is “triple jointed” due to 12 years of surgeries and likes to come off as unsettling and deranged as possible. I’m basing this Ragdoll off the 2004 cartoon version of him and I’m going to say it’s Peter Merkel jr. rather than sr. because fuck that guy. Peter is unusual, he doesn’t stress easy and he doesn’t like a whole lot of responsibility, he is neither a leader nor a follower, but if he does either it’s only because he’s bored. Peter is a very casual person who never seems all that invested in anything and rarely if ever displays any anger. He’s pretty easygoing but I think he’s still very willing to stand up for himself if necessary. I also think he is very dutiful up until the point he gets bored, he doesn’t take things too seriously. I’m not sure why these are traits I associate with anteaters specifically but odd people get odd daemons and anteaters pretty much mind their own until someone attacks them. They’ll finish what you start. I picked the silky anteater because they are smaller and more flexible.
21. Mary Louise Dahl (Babydoll): Blue Jay named Macaulay. Macaulay Culkin is the actor who played Kevin McCallister in the Home Alone movies, he was considered one of the most successful child actors of the 90’s. Mary Dahl was also a pretty successful child actor. Also they would be Mary and Mac like the nursery rhyme Miss Mary Mac. Mary is not necessarily a bad person she just has a health condition that has made her life very difficult and stunted her potential as well as her growth. A lot of things are inaccessible to her due to her appearance. She was a talented actress and I think she would have grown up to be a very wealthy, entitled heiress, and socialite if it weren’t for her condition. She is passionate, talkative and determined. I think she is very bold and assertive and if she were given the opportunity she could have been a fearless mob boss as an adult. Likewise, Blue Jays are very bold and very loud and being perching birds, they are also representative of someone more social like Mary would be if she were given the opportunity and not ostracized for her condition.
22. Lex Luthor (Luthor): Osprey named Henrietta. Henrietta is a feminine form of Henry which was the name of many European kings. Henrietta means “home ruler.” Raptors are very precise, intelligent, and observant people who like a good challenge. Luthor having a rags to riches background is a pretty good indicator of someone who doesn’t mind a good challenge. I also imagine that individuals with Ospreys are people who really know what they want. They are patient but decisive when they are moved to act, and are unafraid to speak up and challenge authorities who go against their moral compass (like Superman).
23. Dennis Prowell (Music Meister): Superb Starling named Sonata. Obviously she would be named after music. Dennis is a villain that is obsessed with music and would definitely have a daemon capable of song (aka a song bird) Starlings are great singers and mimics. He could have a Superb Starling for the name alone but also if you’ve ever seen a picture of one they are truly Extra™️. I think people with songbirds are much more outgoing, loud and proud people too, definitely very talkative.
24. Cyrus Gold (Solomon Grundy): Bull Mastiff named Chandi. Chandi means “silver” so together Chandi and Cyrus are Silver and Gold. Correct me if I’m wrong but... most of the time Cyrus is portrayed as a totally normal, innocent and overall okay dude? Like Cyrus is pretty much always just a someone who was unjustly murdered and disposed of in a swamp? One origin story centers around him refusing to be black mailed and then being shot and killed for it? Sometimes Grundy is even a hero in some comics? Idk but Bull Mastiffs were bred to be guard dogs and are really just gentle giants most of the time which I think is fitting. Sometimes Grundy gives me pretty wholesome vibes despite being a villain in most stories, dudes definitely got a soft side.
FYI: if anyone wants to use these they can
Bless you if you’ve read this much good god.

Lost at the Burrow
-Lost at the Burrow by AvatarVader for HeavensQuill for HP Romione Secret Santa 2021-
Beta'd by the illustrious @nomminay
Many thanks to the HPRomione Discord and @remedialpotions who organised this very large event!
----------
“Ow, Huey!” Rose cried out, “Mummy said we’re not to hit!” Rose Weasely whined at her brother, he had a stick in one hand, a snowball in the other, and a truly evil smirk on his lips.
“I’m an Auror!” Hugo explained, his baby-faced cheeks lighting up with excitement, “Daddy said that bad girls must listen to Aurors!”
“Mummy said we’re not to hit- OW!” Hugo had flung the snowball at his sister and it whacker her in the head leaving her in a dusting of snow cascading down her face.
“Come here, you Snatcher!” Hugo charged at his sister, the stick held high. Rose squealed and took off into the deep woods, Hugo chased her, hot on her heels.
Rose ran through the bushes and trees, leaping over roots and bushes like a deer, Hugo charged after her shouting, “Come on and give up Rosie! Daddy never gets tired chasing bad guys and neither do I!”
Rose felt a sharp crack on her legs and she fell forward into the cold, late December ground. She picked herself back up, her front was chilly and wet from the snow on the ground.
“Rosie Weasely!” Hugo announced, “You’s under ‘rest!”
Anger coursed through the 7-year-old girl, how could her little brother catch her! She was older AND faster, they raced quite often and she had always won!
“Hugo! Look what you did to my jumper!” She roared as she stood up. “Nana just gave this to me and you got it all gross!”
Rose tried to wipe the snow off of her green jumper with an ‘R’ on it. Her gloved hand sent streaks of muck and mud down her belly.
“You felled, ‘s not my fault,” Hugo replied indignantly.
“It's ALWAYS your fault!” Rose shouted, birds scattered out of the nearby trees.
“Nuh-uh!”
“You’re so stupid!” Rose shouted again, tears in her stung her eyes and she struggled to clean her front.
“M-Mummy said to never say that word!” Hugo retorted, tears forming in his eyes, after all, he was just playing with his best friend.
“Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!” Rose shrieked. Hugo surged forward and shoved Rose back, sending her bottom into the snowy mud.
“You’re stupid! Idiot! Dummy!” Hugo screeched, his eyes now full of tears.
“I wish you were never borned!” Rose shouted, she stood up and shoved her brother in the chest and he fell onto his back. Rose darted away leaving her five-year-old brother in the woods alone.
Ron POV
Ron was strangely full of energy. He had saved half of his annual leave time this year, to spend it with his wife and children. Being on holiday he had gotten much more sleep than he normally would.
“So I turn the corner and see the bloody cat floating in midair.” Ron told Percy, “Took me by surprise but I then heard Hu say “hi daddy”. Apparently that son of mine caught the cat trying to sneak out. He’s been playing Auror lately and I guess Crookshanks was his prisoner.”
“That’s rather impressive actually.” Percy chimed in, “Holding Magic like that for a sustained time is a sign of a strong wizard.”
“Yep,” Ron grinned, he always loved bragging about his kids, “Cat’s fine by the way. He was howling and hissing the whole time but… well… it’ll take more than levitation to bring ole’ Crookshanks down, menace.”
Rose came running out of the woods, her front caked with mud and water.
“Daddy!” She ran over to her father and collided with his leg, hugging it tightly.
“Rosie, what happened? You’re all a mess!” Ron knelt onto the patio surface, he and his brothers had set that up for their parents last year.
“Hugo hit me and I fell and got all muddy!” Rosie tattled between sobs.
“Wait, wait, what happened?”
“Huey was playing Auror and chased me.” Rose started.
“Oh, Merlin.” Ron sighed to himself, he regretted telling his son stories of his arrests. Many a dramatic sibling fight started this way.
“an-an he hit me with his stick and I tripped!”
“Is that how your front got all messy?” Ron asked and she nodded into her dad’s chest.
“Is that all that happened?” Ron asked, Rose was still for a moment before she nodded.
“Rosie,” Ron said sternly, “I’ve known you since the day you were born. I know that wasn’t the end of it.”
Ron put his hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eyes.
“I-I called him stupid,” Rose said, her voice filled with shame.
“And then?”
“Hugo pushed me… I pushed him back and then ran here.” Rose looked away from her dad.
“Is he still in the woods?” Rose just nodded without looking at her Dad.
“Come on love,” Ron sighed, “Let’s get you to Mum.”
Ron took Rose’s hand and led her inside The Burrow. Hermione was leaning against the cupboard with a glass of wine in her hand.
She was in the middle of speaking with Fleur, the two had taken to talking to each other in French lately, Hermione had a Ministry Meeting in Orleans several months back and had gotten back into the language. She was in the middle of a sip when she looked over to see her husband and a VERY muddy daughter.
“What happened?” She set her wine down and crossed over to her daughter and placed her hands on Rose’s cheeks.
“Rosie and Hu had a fight,” Ron explained, Hermione gave a stern look to Rose and she hid behind her dad’s leg.
“Where’s Huey?” She asked, craning her neck to meet Ron’s eyes.
“Still in the woods,” Ron explained like it was no big deal but Hermione’s eyes almost bugged out.
“What?!”
“It’s fine love, I’ll go get him.” Ron soothed.
“There could be things in there Ron!” She fretted, her baby boy was missing, all alone in the woods!
“Oh Hermione,” Came Molly’s voice from the side, “All Weasley boys go missing in the woods before Hogwarts. It's practically a rite of passage.”
“Yeah, I remember that Percy walked off on us when we were adventuring once.” Charlie added in, “Found his way home two hours later.”
“His foot was stuck in the mud,” Bill chuckled, “Had to take his boot off.”
“Mum was livid.” Percy shuddered; he had joined the conversation as the brothers remembered his adventure.
“How old was he?” Hermione asked, not sure this would be satisfactory.
“Eight,” The brothers replied.
“Seven, actually.” Percy retorted, “I had just gotten my glasses then.”
Molly rolled her eyes at the memory.
“Yeah, I did NOT enjoy the walloping I got from losing those glasses.”
“Serves you right.” Molly huffed, “Not to mention tracking all that mud into my living room.”
She pinches Percy on the cheeks. “You boys.” Molly grinned and turned to Hermione, “Hugo will be fine love, don’t worry too much.”
“Ronald.” Hermione said and she raised her eyebrows expectantly, “He’s five.”
“Hermione, calm down.” Ron raised his free hand stopping her before she could rant at him, “I'm going to get him now, I'm not an idiot. Can you clean this one up?” Ron nudged Rose forward, she was still muddy and wet. Her cheeks were red, whether, from cold air or embarrassment, the family wasn’t sure.
“I’ll draw a bath.” Molly darted off to the downstairs bathroom.
“Come along love,” Hermione picked Rose up and the young girl wrapped her arms around her mum’s neck. “I think Gran might still have some spare clothes for you here.”
Ron stepped out of the Burrow and followed a deer track through the woods. He knew what his children liked to explore and they would for sure go through the track to get as deep into the woods as they could. Ron remembered the scolding Rose got from Hermione when she went off a path for several hours on her own one day.
Ron soon came upon a bit of snow that looked disturbed, Ron could see the tracks and a large indent in the powder where Rose must’ve fallen.
Ron’s eyes flicked to the tracks, he caught Rose’s leading back to the Burrow and another set that stomped off further into the trees. Ron grinned at seeing these new tracks, his son had a tendency to stomp just like Hermione did when she was cross.
“Don’t worry kiddo,” Ron muttered to himself, “Daddy’s coming.”
Hugo POV
Hugo was lost, he didn’t know where to go and the day was getting darker and darker by the second. All Hugo had with him was his ‘Wand’ and as much courage as the five-year-old could muster up.
Tears started to sting his eyes, but he would not let these fall, he was an Auror for crying out loud! Aurors don’t cry!
Hugo trodded deeper and deeper into the woods until he heard what sounded like a buzzing or maybe a fluttering of wings above him. He looked and saw an electric blue hive hanging off of a branch.
“OH!” Hugo was told by his Daddy to ALWAYS stay clear of these hives, they had one turn up off of their porch in the summer once.
Without warning, a dozen electric blue pixies shot out of the entrance hole and started swarming him.
“Ow!” Hugo cried out as tiny but sharp claws scraped his cold skin, “Stop it!”
Hugo started running away from the pixie's home, hoping that distance would save him, but the creatures chased after him. He felt one of them bite at his calf and another nip his ears.
“Ow!” Hugo stopped and his Weasley temper surged through him, “Knock it off!” Hugo swung his stick at the out and the flimsy wood slapped across the belly of an unlucky pixie. The pixie fell to the snow holding its side, it quickly got up and dive-bombed Hugo’s ears.
Two more pixies soared at Hugo’s ears and grabbed onto them with an odd strength. He felt a tug and his feet soon left the ground. He looked down and saw that he was being lifted off the ground.
They’re gonna eat me! Hugo remembered Uncle George’s jokes about pixies and someone named Lockhart, Uncle George wasn’t lying this time!
“Help!” Hugo tried to squirm and swing his stick above him but despite a successful hit on a pixie’s arm, he was still being lifted higher and higher into the air.
Hugo was almost at the tops of the trees when he heard a familiar voice bellow out, “Immobulus!”
The pixies froze in midair, the only thing moving was their blinking bright white eyes. Hugo felt the pressure in his ears release and he slipped from the pixies grasp and fell to the ground. Hugo felt the thwap of a branch on the way down and the world started spinning as he did on the way down.
“Shit!” He heard the familiar voice call out and suddenly Hugo was wrapped in his Dad’s strong arms.
“Oh, Huey! I'm so glad I found you!” His Dad said, cradling Hugo in his big, strong arms. “You look pretty scratched up; do you feel ok?”
Hugo opened his eyes to see his father looming over him, concern and anxiety clear on his face.
“I’m ok Daddy!” Hugo said, but this wasn’t exactly true, he could still feel the sting of the scratches and bites But Hugo would be an Auror like his Daddy, he would NOT cry.
“Merlin, I'm just happy I found you in time.” Ron said, “What did we tell you about running off?” Ron came out sterner than he had wanted to.
“T-to not to…” Hugo said sheepishly, his eyes welled with tears at the scolding.
“Come on buddy,” Ron sighed and ruffled Hugo’s hair, “Let’s get back to Gran’s.”
Ron stood up and wrapped his arm around Hugo’s bottom, Hugo wrapped his arms around his Daddy’s neck and clung to it tightly.
“You monkey.” Ron chuckled before pressing his lips to his son’s head.
Ron POV
They cleared the trees and the back patio came into view, Hermione was standing on the edge of the stone along with Molly. Ron could see that Hermione was wringing her hands, which was a habit that she did whenever one of the kids were off on their own and she couldn’t watch over them.
“Oh, Hu!” She exclaimed when she saw her little man in her husband’s arms. She walked briskly over and hugged Hugo’s back snugly.
“Hi, Mama,” Hugo said into his Dad’s neck. He squirmed and tried to turn around to hug his mom, but Hermione was pressed too tightly and didn’t allow for any maneuvering.
“Oh, I’m so happy you’re back!” Hermione let out a happy sob.
“I’m ok Mama!” Hugo assured her, “I was brave like Daddy!”
“Hu did get scratched up a wee bit though.” Ron supplied, though he did like being hugged by his wife. “So if-“
“You’re hurt!?” Hermione shrieked and yanked her boy out of Ron’s arms. She looked him over and saw that his hands and cheeks were clawed up pretty nastily, though it looked like the damage was equal to about a skinned knee. Something both parents were well acquainted in dealing with.
“I’m ok Mama,” Hugo reassured once again. He was just happy to be back in his mom’s arms, she was soft and warm.
“Let’s get him inside, Rosie should be done with her bath by now,” Molly said, she leaned in and pecked Hugo’s head just like Ron had earlier.
“So what trouble did our little Auror get into?” Arthur asked with a happy smile.
“He found some pixies in the forest,” Ron informed, “Got to him right in the nick of time too. They had him by his ears about 30ft up.”
“Daddy catched me!” Hugo informed, ignoring the worried pecks on his cheeks from Hermione.
“Luckily.” Ron shook his head, knowing if he was even a minute late he would’ve had a VERY different story for Hermione.
“Oh! Oh! Oh!! Mama!!” Hugo said with a tattletale voice, “Daddy said a bad word!”
Ron’s jaw dropped, “Really, that’s what you remember?”
Harry started snickering from the outdoor table, and George guffawed loudly.
“You little traitor,” Ron ruffled Hugo’s thick hair again, “Lucky you’re cute.”
Later that night
The tension between the two children in the house was almost palpable. The small family had recently returned home from Christmas Dinner at the Burrow. Rose jumped in her Father’s arms and Hugo jumped into Hermione’s arms. They both shot an identical look at each other and the unspoken agreement between them was clear to the parent.
A cold and malicious war.
Rose got out of the bath to find her curly red hair had been dyed green.
Hugo had tripped on the bottom of the stairs and fell on his bottom on two of them.
Ron and Hermione had enough.
“Sit.” Ron sat Rose down on her favorite spot on the couch.
“Daddy??” She looked up at him, his face was stern and serious, not the usual happy and excited.
Hermione then came in with a just bathed Hugo in her arms. She plopped him down right next to his sister.
“The two of you are in serious trouble.” Ron started, both children looked away. “You both know what you did and why it was wrong, yes?”
The children said nothing but averted their eyes from both parents.
“Yes?” Ron said, his voice raised slightly.
“Yes Daddy.” Both said sheepishly.
“Hugo,” Hermione started, her lawyer voice coming through, “You know you’re not to hit at all. Rosie, you know that you’re not to call others names.”
“Yes.” Both said.
“I know how tough it can be having siblings,” Ron sat down and placed his arms around both of his kids, “Merlin knows I do, I have seven of the sodding siblings.”
“But no matter what,” Hermione said, sitting next to Rose, “Your family is your first friends, and your siblings are your very best friends.”
“That’s right, Aunt Ginny was and is today one of my very best friends in the world.” Ron supplied, “I grew up with her, and despite all the shouting matches and pranks against each other. I still love her.”
“Kids,” Hermione turned facing both children, “It’s perfectly normal to have arguments and fight-”
“Like you and Daddy?” Rose asked,
“Exactly,” Hermione smiled, “You see how Daddy and I bicker over things all the time but we never lay a hand on each other.”
“And we never call each other names.” Ron added in for effect, “Name calling can hurt just as much, if not worse than hitting.”
Rose sat quietly for a moment before she turned to Hugo, “Sorry I called you an idiot.”
“It’s ‘kay. I’m sorry I hitted you Wosie,” Hugo yawned.
“Its ok.” Rose leaned in and hugged her brother tightly.
“Right. Now that that’s all sorted, who wants to watch a movie in Mummy and Daddy’s bed?” Ron asked chipperly.
“Ron.” Hermione admonished.
“What?” Ron asked with a grin, “I wanna watch a movie but I know these two will be out like a light in no time at all.”
“Fine,” Hermione caved, “Go pick a movie to watch tonight. Daddy will go grab our blankies and make a little bed on the floor. I’ll make some popcorn.”
“YAY!” The children shouted, Rose jumped off the couch and darted to the chest that held an obscene amount of movies.
“We’re gunna watch Frozen!”
“Ugh, no, we ALWAYS watch Fwozen!” Hugo complained, “I wanna watch Cars!”
“NO! I don’t like cars!”
“Ugh, why do we always watch your movies!?” Hugo raised his voice.
The two parents left, both shaking their heads. As long as there was no name calling or hitting… They counted it as a win.
They spent Christmas Day’s night as a family. They ended up watching The Secret World of Arietty. Rose was enraptured by it, but Hugo was out like a light, snoring on Ron’s chest.
It was the first time the family had done that on Christmas Day night, but the parents loved it so much, it became a new tradition. One that lasted up to when Hugo moved out.

Hello, not sure if you get a chance to do a request for a Granger-Weasely family fic. If you do have you ever thought of Ron trying to teach Hugo how to potty train?
Hi @nena-96! I love this idea, but sadly I literally know nothing about potty training, and feel that I would not do it justice without doing some research on the topic first (which unfortunately, I don’t have the extra time for right now). Maybe someday in the future I’ll have life experiences that would better help me relate to a little drabble such as this. I try to be as realistic as possible when I write, and I don’t think I can make this one happen 😔
I’m sorry I can’t make this one happen for you. I always love and appreciate the ideas you send my way💕

Anyone want my playlist for my dream cast version of Les Miserables?
Here it is!
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyXOfYb8cpflTuoC6FuFMwyCuD60-V0J4
It’s as close to the full show as I can get. Let me know if I miscredited anyone, am missing any major songs, or have anything listed out of order. I’m happy to be convinced that a different version of a song should reign supreme as well, so hit me up!
Song/actors list and explanations under the cut.
1. Overture/Work Song - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, Terrence Mann as Javert (Original Broadway)
It’s a big, bombastic, awesome beginning. I definitely vibe with the especially over-the-top synth and these particular convicts’ generally growly, desperate tone. Wilkinson’s Valjean, eternally my favorite, doesn’t seem feral like some versions I’ve seen, but rather like he’s trying so hard to just be good and get through this and keep it together, until he snaps a bit at “My name is Jean Valjean” and the way he acts that gives me chills. Mann’s Javert seems more cold than over-the-top aggressive, which I always like, although he doesn’t stick out thaaat much to me.
2. On Parole/The Bishop - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, Paul Monaghan as Bishop Myriel (10th Anniversary)
I love everything about Wilkinson’s Valjean’s “freedom is mine” bit. His unique diction and his perfect tenor-ness and the hope in his voice...yeah. The way he hits and holds that “fliiiiiiiight” note is also pretty perfect. It sounds like the scream he was holding in the whole time he was in prison. I also appreciate Monaghan’s Bishop’s sudden earnestness at the “But remember this, my brother” part and the way he holds that last low “I have bought your soul for God.”
3. Prologue/What Have I Done? - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean (Original London)
Wilkinson’s Valjean seems to make the beginning part properly fast and frantic, then switches to a gentle, heartwrenchingly vulnerable tone, then his absolutely anguished “this is all I have known.” As always, he excels at those high notes and long notes.
4. At the End of the Day - Lea Salonga as Fantine, Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean, Jeff Nicholson as the Factory Foreman (25th Anniversary)
All the women here sound so angry, at everyone and everything, and it’s pretty great. Honestly, it was Nicholson’s factory foreman here that really caught my ear, with his nasty “oi!” after the “and in a bed” line and his frankly terrifying “on your way!”. I like Salonga’s Fantine’s note of desperation, although she honestly could sound a little angrier. This track includes a tiny bit of the beginning of “I Dreamed a Dream” and then cuts off — sorry about that.
5. I Dreamed a Dream - Maureen Moore as Fantine (1988)
Something about this recording makes it sound like it’s much older than it is, and that slightly echoey sound makes it sound all the more haunting. A lot of Fantines sound enraged here, and I like that too, but something about Moore’s just utter sadness and vulnerability just sells it for me like no one else can. She sounds so young, because Fantine is. And then the way she belts “shame” is perfection. The way she goes from quiet and gentle at the beginning to desperate belting at the end and then the soft last lines murders my soul every time.
6. Lovely Ladies - Randy Graff as Fantine (Original Broadway)
Honestly...I haven’t found a version of this song that I love yet. There’s still this air of humor to it that feels incongruous at best and mean-spirited at worst. But I really like the worn-out, older sounding voices of a lot of the women singing to Fantine, and Graff’s Fantine’s anguish and slightly breaking voice is definitely good, as is her “don’t they know they’re making love to one already dead?”
7. Fantine’s Arrest - Caissie Levy as Fantine, Nathaniel Hackmann as Jean Valjean, Earl Carpenter as Javert (2014)
I love Levy’s Fantine here, with her fear and her fierceness. The way she spits out that “even a whore who’s gone to the bad won’t be had by a rat” is perfect in every way, as is her pleading after. Carpenter’s Javert has a lovely bass and is also cold and punchable, as all Javerts should be. This is one of the only songs on this playlist I have a video for, and I appreciate the blocking; the women crowding around Fantine and then fleeing, and the way Hackmann’s Valjean keeps his distance from Fantine and generally radiates  respect and tenderness.
8. The Runaway Cart - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, Terrence Mann as Javert (Original Broadway)
Thank you @lesbianrung for this recommendation! The ensemble sounds frantic and scared here, sometimes screaming more than singing, but for a chaotic scene like this, it works. Mann’s Javert is more reserved here than some I’ve seen, a bit more like the authority-fearing, self-loathing Brick Javert. Wilkinson’s Valjean sounds like a wreck when he’s begging someone to help him lift the cart, does a great little nervous laugh on “say what you must, don’t leave it there,” and belts his “how can you be sure that I am not your man” to excellent effect.
9. Who Am I? - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean (Original Broadway)
Hey quick question did I mention that I love Colm Wilkinson? God that tormented shiver in Valjean’s voice...the softness of that last “I am damned”..his buildup up to “I’m Jean Valjean”...the way he hits that last “two-four-six-oh-oneeeeeeee”...yeah no there is one (1) Jean Valjean and that is Colm Wilkinson.
10. Come to Me/Fantine’s Death - Ruthie Henshall as Fantine, Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean (10th Anniversary)
Henshall’s Fantine sounds so gentle yet so powerful here. The way she sings “I will sing you lullabies and wake you in the morning” absolutely shatters me and always will. Her belting sounds beautiful and clear and perfect, vulnerable yet strong. The way she fades out on her last word, “wake,” is utterly haunting. Wilkinson’s Jean Valjean sounds soft and caring, and the way he half-breathes a lot of the words is. Oh.
11. The Confrontation - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, Philip Quast as Javert (10th Anniversary)
Quast’s Javert has a true bass quality that really, really works, like in the way he says “you’ll wear a different chain.” In general, the way he seems to bite off his words and the steely determination of his voice is perfect. He balances really well with Wilkinson’s Valjean who, for the first time, sounds scary, but can switch to softness for the dead Fantine. The last “I will be there” is excellent all-around.
12. Castle on a Cloud - Zoë Hart as Little Cosette (Original London)
Hart’s Little Cosette is insanely good! She really does sound like a little kid and still has awesome acting and she’s in tune! Her “there is a lady all in white, holds me and sings me a lullaby” bit is heartbreaking.
13. Master of the House - Barry James as M. Thenardier, Gay Soper as Mme. Thenardier (International Symphonic)
James and Soper are my favorite Thenardiers of all time, by far. I like this longer version that mentions M. Thenardier’s Waterloo shenanigans. James’ Thenardier sounds gleefully evil, and I like his whispery, growly tone or rowdy almost-shouting. You can absolutely hear his nasty grin. His affected r-rolling also reminds me a lot of the Brick characterization. Soper’s Mme. Thenardier has a weasely quality to her voice that seems appropriate, but she does not shy away from the ruder lines (”lifelong shit,” “not much there,” “up the master’s ass,” etc.) and she, like her husband, seems to be having a lot of fun and lapping up the attention. I adore how she delivers her “bastard in the house” line.
14. The Bargain/Waltz of Treachery - Barry James as M. Thenardier, Gay Soper as Mme. Thenardier, Gary Morris as Jean Valjean, Marissa Dunlop as Little Cosette (International Symphonic)
Morris’ Valjean and Dunlop’s Little Cosette’s “la la la la la la la la” harmony is amazing and tender and adorable and may or may not make me cry which is not supposed to happen before Act II. Morris’ delivery of his “now her mother is with God” and “I stand here in her place” lines is powerful, too. The Thenardiers sound delightfully sleazy and dramatic, too. I like that Morris’ Valjean sounds actually angry at them, unlike many others I’ve seen. I almost have to admit though, I miss the movie version of the final lines, where they had “Will you be like a papa to me?”/”Yes Cosette, yes it’s true, I’ll be father and mother to you,” while here, like in other stage shows, they have “Will there be castles and children to see?”/”Yes Cosette, yes it’s true, there’s a castle just waiting for you” because 1) I like Valjean’s father and mother role that Hugo kept talking about in the Brick, and 2) in the musical, it seemed pretty clear that there weren’t actually any other children around Cosette until Marius showed up!
15. Suddenly - Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean (2012 movie)
Yes, I’m including this song from the movie. Honestly, I don’t like the song itself that much, and I don’t think Jackman’s Valjean has the strongest voice, although his acting is extremely sweet, and when he almost whispers “full of light” and “like the sun” I definitely almost lose it. But I’m mainly including this song because the musical really did need a song that fills this role. The stage musical devotes a weirdly small amount of time to Cosette and Valjean’s relationship, considering that it drives Valjean’s actions for the rest of the story and it is central to the Brick (and one of my favorite parts of it, too). This is the first time that Valjean has ever felt truly loved in his life! Something suddenly HAS begun!
16. Look Down - Ross McCall as Gavroche, Anthony Warlow as Enjolras (International Symphonic)
I fell in love with this version because of the ensemble, honestly. It started out loud and powerful and strong, even more so than the Overture/Work Song bit. McCall’s Gavroche is beyond perfect, though. He is strong and sassy, and angry too, more than most Gavroches in the beginning, but he also sounds so young! Warlow’s Enjolras has an incredibly powerful voice as well, and makes a pretty awesome first impression.
17. The Robbery - Carrie Hope Fletcher as Eponine Thenardier, Rob Houchen as Marius Pontmercy, Cameron Blakely as M. Thenardier, James Gant as Javert (2013)
This is another song I’ve got the blocking for. It’s pretty standard, although I always like when a Marius, like Houchen’s, gets involved in the Fray to defend Cosette. I love the dynamic between Fletcher’s Eponine and Houchen’s Marius, with affection and teasing and care, and their little smiles and head shakes, but also with a bit of discomfort on Marius’ end — he seems a little awkward about trying to get his books back with minimal contact, and he seems to be deflecting the “I like the way you grow your hair” thing as nicely as he can, but definitely deflecting. Blakely doesn’t make much of an impression as Thenardier (although his “told you so” is really funny), and Gant is not my favorite Javert, but Fletcher’s “It’s Javert” is ridiculously awesome.
18. Stars - Philip Quast as Javert (10th Anniversary)
Quast’s Javert is...yeah, what else is there to say?
19. Eponine’s Errand - Kaho Shimada as Eponine Thenardier, Michael Ball as Marius Pontmercy (International Symphonic)
I wish this recording weren’t missing Gavroche’s little part beforehand, but I think Shimada’s Eponine and Ball’s Marius are worth the trade-off. Shimada sounds a little softer and sadder here, not angry like in some versions, which I don’t mind. But when she sees Marius, she switches to determinedly playful which is all the more heartwrenching. And her “I don’t want your money, sir” hurts. Ball’s Marius’ voice is nice and lovestruck and also not softening his single-minded obliviousness. I like his gentle desperation at his “Eponine, do this for me.” I also like that the lyric here is “don’t let her father know” instead of “don’t let your father know.”
20. Red and Black - Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, George Bladgen as Grantaire (2012 movie)
Embarrassing as it is to admit, Eddie Redmayne is my favorite Marius. He’s emotional and, well, a noodle, but also very sweet and sings well and has a higher, lighter voice than most Marii I’ve seen. He’s young!  They’re all so young! And I like that Tveit’s Enjolras feels a lot less shouty here ; it's more accurate to Brick descriptions of his interactions with his friends, and reflects his kind of angelic vibe. And I definitely appreciate that Bladgen’s Grantaire’s mocking is a little softer here — he knows a thing or two about impossible love. I do love his little laugh when he says “it is better than an opera.” And that last “they will come when we call” makes me feel things.
21. Do You Hear the People Sing? - Michael Maguire as Enjolras (Original Broadway)
Sometimes you need an angelic Aaron Tveit, and sometimes you need a powerhouse Michael Maguire. Damn.
22. In My Life - Judy Kuhn as Cosette, David Bryant as Marius Pontmercy, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine Thenardier, Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean (Original Broadway)
Kuhn’s Cosette has such a sweet voice, and you can hear her quiet fierce excitement in the beginning. She manages to sing Cosette’s high notes with softness and gentleness really well for the most part, although I’m not that fond of the sound on her “does he know I’m alive? do I know if he’s real?” high notes. Wilkinson’s Valjean seems gentler than some of the others I’ve seen, even on the “no more words” bit, and a lot of his negative emotion seems to be directed inward. Bryant’s Marius is in love, and sounds perhaps a bit too confident and a bit too old for my taste. No, what really stands out here is Frances Ruffelle’s Eponine. God, I love Frances Ruffelle’s Eponine. Starting off strong with that agonized “every word that he says is a dagger in me,” she sounds so young, with an almost-whiny, heartwrenching edge that reminds me the most of her Brick characterization, but she gets so gentle on her last “waiting here.”
23. A Heart Full of Love - Katie Hall as Cosette, Gareth Gates as Marius Pontmercy, Rosalind James as Eponine Thenardier (2010)
This recording picks up with James’ Eponine’s “waiting here,” definitely an interesting comparison. She sounds awesome throughout this piece, with a lovely warm alto voice. And I love love LOVE Katie Hall’s Cosette, with all her strength and sweetness. God, you can hear her smiling. She shines the most when she sings her softest lines, like “no fear, no regret,” “I'm awake,” and the last “after all.” Gates’ Marius is incredibly charming, but still absolutely an awkward mess, and you can hear him dying inside when he says “oh God, for shame, I do not even know your name.” The balance between all three of their voices is perfect.
24. Plumet Attack - Frances Ruffelle as Eponine Thenardier, Bernard Leo Burmester as M. Thenardier (Original Broadway)
Burmester’s Thenardier is properly scary here. Once again Ruffelle’s Eponine steals the show, belting all of her lines perfectly. Her “told you I’d do it” is haunting and perfect and brave in that oh-so-Eponine way, with a hint of petulance.
25. One Day More - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, Terrence Mann as Javert, Judy Kuhn as Cosette, Davis Bryant as Marius Pontmercy, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine Thenardier, Bernard Leo Burmester as M. Thenardier, Jennifer Butt as Mme. Thenardier (Original Broadway)
Everyone starts out so soft, and they make this song build so perfectly and balance each other out impeccably. Ruffelle’s Eponine’s “one more day all on my own” bit rises above it all, and her voice sounds so clear and powerful and good. Also did you hear that loud and long “one day more!” out of Wilkinson’s Valjean? And Les Amis’ triumphant swelling chorus? Everyone here is superhuman, I swear.
26. Building the Barricade (Upon These Stones) - Michael Ball as Marius, Kaho Shimada as Eponine Thenardier, Anthony Warlow as Enjolras, Philip Quast as Javert (International Symphonic)
It’s mistitled as “At the Barricade” but I pinky promise it’s not. Ball’s Marius sounds genuinely concerned and touchingly pissed. Shimada’s Eponine is sweet and playful, and her “little you know, little you care” has very little bite, which I’m not sure I like. What I absolutely adore, though, is the bit where she delivers Marius’ letter to Morris’ Valjean. Shimada sounds suddenly shy, and Morris seems in full adopting mode. Something about this exchange just feels incredibly sweet to me. And then when Morris reads Marius’ letter, and his little pause in the “you love me as well” part is perfection.
27. On My Own - Frances Ruffelle as Eponine Thenardier (Original Broadway)
What can I say? Ruffelle’s Eponine absolutely kills it. She has a lovely husky voice that sounds sweet and sad and angry and powerful and broken all at once. I love the way she sings “in the rain, the pavement shines like silver” and “and I know it’s only in my mind, that I’m talking to myself and not to him” and “all my life I’ve only been pretending” and of course that “a world that’s full of happiness that I have never known.” The way she builds up from sweet fantasizing to absolute anguish...and then she breathes out those last “I love him”s and she sounds like the teenager Eponine is. God. I need a moment. Or several.
28. Javert at the Barricade - Terrence Mann as Javert, I can’t find the Gavroche which enrages me to no end (Original Broadway)
Mann’s Javert isn’t as dramatic as I’d like, but I’m here for Gavroche. I do miss the Les Amis dialogue that happens in newer versions of this song, but the older version of this song, which includes a lot more of “Little People” is better in my opinion because it makes Gavroche’s death scene all the sadder. I adore this particular Gavroche’s sassiness and spunk and his powerful voice.
29. A Little Fall of Rain - Frances Ruffelle as Eponine Thenardier, Michael Ball as Marius Pontmercy (Original London)
Ruffelle’s Eponine sounds so utterly vulnerable here, but with a hint of strange almost-happiness that reminds me of the Brick’s version of her death scene. Her voice feels lighter and sweeter here than anything else, and Ruffelle’s Eponine always has a different way of singing when Marius can hear her from how she sings when he can’t, and here we feel them merging together, especially at her “hold me now and let it be, shelter me, comfort me.” And I adore Ball’s Marius softness here, especially during the duet part. His “hush-a-bye, dear Eponine” is angelic. The whole song feels so intimate with them. This is always the point where I start crying.
30. Night of Anguish - Michael Ball as Marius Pontmercy, Anthony Warlow as Enjolras, Gary Morris as Jean Valjean (International Symphonic)
Somber all-around, and everyone’s voice is good. No performer sticks out that much, to be honest. I do get chills whenever the “Drink with Me” theme comes on in the background. And when Jean Valjean comes in, the rising terror of Les Amis becomes apparent, and all their voices are strong.
31. The Attack - David Burt as Enjolras (Original London)
Again, a plot song in between the big ones, so not too much to say here, but everyone sings well.
32. Drink With Me - Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, George Bladgen as Grantaire, Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy, Daniel Huttlestone as Gavroche Thenardier (2012 movie)
Just to warn you, the sound doesn’t kick in until a few seconds in. I absolutely love this version (once the generous poster re-added Grantaire’s solo, of course). I love Tveit’s Enjolras’ weariness and gentleness at the beginning, reminiscent of Brick Enjolras who loves his friends in his fierce and quiet way. You can hear the heartbreak in his “Marius, rest.” I love how Huttlestone’s Gavroche echoes Les Amis’ lines throughout the chorus — I’ve never seen that in any of the stage productions. And God, Bladgen’s Grantaire. He is so much more earnest here than others I’ve seen, and I appreciate that he gets quiet on “can it be, you fear to die?” as if he’s past defiant anger and is already grieving. He just has a clear, lovely voice. And although it sucks that the movie cut his solo out and it had to be edited in this way, I almost like how faraway it makes this part sound, as if Grantaire is still holed up in the Corinthe with his wine, looking down at his friends, half-awake and helpless. I appreciate that Redmayne’s Marius’ lyric was changed from “Would you weep, Cosette, should Marius fall?” to “Would you weep, Cosette, if I were to fall?” because it sounds a lot more like something someone would actually say. Also, this is another clip with video, and I’m really happy with how it looks, especially the way both Enjolras and Valjean are off to the distance and the way it pans to Valjean when Marius is singing about Cosette.
33. Bring Him Home - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean (10th Anniversary)
Wilkinson’s Valjean starts out so quiet, with the perfect sweet spot of vibrato. Literally all of his high notes sound perfect and still expressive! I almost don’t know what to highlight, but just listen to how he decrescendos on that “I am old, and will be gone” and the power in that “if I die, let me die” and that absolutely ethereal last “bring him home” which he holds for so so long for a note that high for a tenor. This man has the range, darlings.
34. Dawn of Anguish - Anthony Warlow as Enjolras (International Symphonic)
Warlow’s Enjolras absolute grief and tenderness is absolutely heartwrenching. The way he delivers the line “we will not abandon those who cannot hear.” And that little “Drink with Me” reprise feels like getting stabbed. Whenever they end it with “if I die, I die with you” I stop breathing for too many seconds.
35. The Second Attack/Death of Gavroche - Daniel Huttlestone as Gavroche Thenardier, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, Hadley Fraser as the Army Officer (2012 movie)
Huttlestone’s Gavroche is amazing. You can hear that he’s in pain but not even scared as he sings in a clear, powerful voice. Fraser also killed his “you have no chance, no chance at all” and I’m honestly surprised he didn’t get cast as one of Les Amis. And, of course, Tveit’s Enjolras’ “until the Earth is free!” could have singlehandedly killed King Louis-Philippe.
36. Dog Eats Dog - Bernard Leo Burmester as M. Thenardier (Original Broadway)
Barry James’ Thenardier might be the funniest, but Burmester’s will always be the scariest. His growly tones and big dynamic changes and dramatic enunciation really make this. The breathy way he says “when the gutters run with blood” and his powerful final “the harvest moon shines down” is beyond chilling.
37. Javert’s Suicide - Philip Quast as Javert, Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean (10th Anniversary)
Wilkinson’s Valjean here is the angriest I’ve ever seen his portrayal of the character. There is so much pent-up bitterness in his “I knew you wouldn’t wait too long.” Quast’s Javert is wonderful, as always. In his duet part with Wilkinson, with his half-feral “I will be waiting, two-four-six-oh-one,” both of them shine. And then during his main soliloquy, when he goes from snarling, “it is either Valjean or Javert!” to sounding so soft and lost as he begins the “how can I now allow this man to hold dominion over me?” bit. And at his “by granting me my life today, this man has killed me even so,” you can hear him making his choice to jump, and it’s awful, and it’s perfect.
38. Turning - Original Broadway Cast
Oh, this song is so underrated, and these people do a particularly amazing job with it. Their voices sound so tired and worn, sometimes old and rough, sometimes young and light, and all of them heartbroken. Their “where’s that new world now the fighting’s done” and the way they sing the round section is haunting and beautiful.
39. Empty Chairs at Empty Tables - Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy (2012 movie)
I have to say, no one does this one like Eddie Redmayne. His Marius’ grief is absolutely crushing. I like how this arrangement goes super light with the instrumentals at first, and how Redmayne’s Marius starts off very soft. His “at the table in the corner” section gives me goosebumps every time, and he nails every single high note. And by the time we reach “phantom faces at the window,” he seems to be letting it out, and his “oh my friends, my friends, don’t ask me what your sacrifice was for” has me sobbing.
40. Every Day/A Heart Full of Love Reprise - Katie Hall as Cosette, Gareth Gates as Marius Pontmercy, John Owen Jones as Jean Valjean (2010)
Ah, Les Mis, killing me with the parallels once again. This version seems to go by awfully fast, but Hall’s Cosette and Gates’ Marius are properly sweet, and JOJ’s Valjean is gentle and sad and heartbreaking. All of their voices balance each other well.
41. Valjean’s Confession - Gary Morris as Jean Valjean, Michael Ball as Marius Pontmercy (International Symphonic)
I really don’t like versions that shorten this; I feel like Jean Valjean needs to be wordy here. In the Brick, he’s almost hysterical. Morris’ Valjean is so gentle, and you can hear the pleading and pain in his voice, on phrases like “she’s had enough of tears” and “to save his sister’s son” and then his voice is so powerful and despairing on “who am I?” and then when it gets soft..yeah I’m not okay. Ball’s Marius’ “it must be so” is pretty, but he doesn’t stick out that much compared to Morris’ powerhouse performance. Also, God the score playing “who am I?” in the background was just cruel. I love it.
42. The Wedding Chorale/Beggars at the Feast - Barry James as M. Thenardier, Gay Soper as Mme. Thenardier, Michael Ball as Mariius Pontmercy (International Symphonic)
James and Soper are just the right Thenardiers for the job. They are clearly having an extremely good time, and I love their sniveling and their scheming and their flamboyance. Ball’s Marius acts very well here too. I love his scoff at “do you think I don’t know who you are?” and his anger on Eponine’s behalf.
43. Finale - Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, Randy Graff as Fantine, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine, David Bryant as Marius Pontmercy, Judy Kuhn as Cosette (Original Broadway)
I have no words.

Second Gen
I have a collection of Harry Potter kids headcanons that I thought I’d share with you all.
The Weasely-Potter clan kids (that aren't her own of course) refer to Hermione as “Auntie Mione.” But when she breaks out their full names (first-middle-last or just first-last) ALL OF THEM (and I mean all twelve kids + Teddy +Scorpius) are prim and proper instantly. They basically snap to attention. And then until Hermione is back to her usual self they all refer to her as Ma'am.
Teddy calls Draco uncle instead of cousin due to their age difference, even though he knows full well they're cousins. Also, the two of them actually have a pretty decent balanced relationship.
Harry is often completely oblivious to his kids' and nieces' and nephews' shenanigans. He tries to be a good father, and is in every other aspect, but he really can't seem to wrap his head around the fact that kids can be mischievous little demons, especially when they're younger and cuter.
Teddy SPOILS the kids of the Weasely-Potter clan completely rotten. He also dons the physical features (hair color, eye color, freckles, stuff like that) of whoever's birthday it is on their birthday and wears it for the whole day.
Victoire is viewed by many of her peers to be the responsible and rule mongering one when she completely isn't. She's not a troublemaker but she knows how to have a good time. She also isn't afraid to blackmail her younger family members.
Rose and Scorpius are friends, even though in Cursed Child that's not really the case because Hermione wouldn't raise an intolerant child and I'm mad. Even if Rose had heard Ron's anti-Malfoy shit Rose would still give Scorpius a chance because there's no real proof in the rumors about Scorpius being Voldemort's kid. Scorpius and Rose also end up becoming a thing. Scorpius has to deal with her cousins and siblings threatening him (Don't you dare break her heart basically) in the beginning (except Teddy who is like “Hey, what's up? This is what you should get Rose for her birthday, just so you know.”).
Draco basically ends up being adopted by the Weasely family and gets Weasely sweaters every Christmas and it's adorable.
Teddy often helps the kids do stuff that would get them in trouble (like steal the Marauders Map from Harry's desk). He also takes all of them out to like dinner or the park or whatever. He and Victoire somehow manage to look after all usually 12 younger kids (because there's no way they leave Scorpius out once he becomes friends with Albus) and keep them from tearing the entire city down.
Mcgonagall loves having all those kids in the school, even if they are a bit of a headache most of the time.
Lily Luna Potter is the epicenter of the worst of everything. She takes mischief lessons from George as well as lessons on how not to get caught from her brothers and cousins (usually by watching them get caught). She is like Fred and George and all four of the Marauders wrapped into one adorable bundle of trouble that can also smooth talk her way out of most things (and if she can't do it, you better believe her brothers will be backing her up). It also doesn't help that Teddy and James Sirius especially encourage her. She has her grandmother's perfect model student image with everyone else's tastes for trouble. SHE IS A MENACE And the Scamander twins are her partners in crime
Teddy is incredibly protective of his family. He loves them and doesn't let anyone hurt them.
Scorpius and Draco and Scorpius' mom are all adopted into the Weasely family. They are fed and well loved.
Mrs. Weasely spoils the shit out of all of them. She also stuffs, especially Teddy, completely stupid because Remus and Tonks are awesome and she's not going to let him starve ever.
James is actually protective of Albus, even if the two don't particularly get along at home. One time Albus returned the sass to one of his bullies and ended up getting into a physical fight that he did not win. A crowd gathered around them, cheering. James heard Albus cry out in pain and was there pretty quick. He shoved through the crowd followed by Rose and Lily. Scorpius came from the other side of the crowd having been drawn by the same thing. James pulls the kid off of his brother and throws them to the ground. He glares down at them and backs them into a corner while Rose and Scorpius help Albus to his feet. Lily Luna watches in stoic silence. James tells the crowd that he is the ONLY one allowed to pick on his brother and that they better leave his brother's friend (Scorpius) alone too. Everybody is pretty shocked. James leads the way to the Hospital wing, ordering everyone to move so that Scorpius and Rose could help Albus through. Scorpius calls to Lily and is like “C'mon Lily.” She remains silent for a minute before smiling and jogging after them (with a “Coming”). James gets in trouble with Mcgonagall but not too much because Mcgonagall can more than understand why he did what he did. And then Lily Luna basically plots a beautiful (but also mostly harmless) revenge prank plot because nobody hurts her family.
Neville Longbottom is Albus' biggest supporter at Hogwarts. He often tells Albus about his school years and about how for his first few years he was actually really hopeless at magic and potions and could do pretty much nothing. He supports Albus and does not at all tolerate the bullying Albus receives in his presence. He tells Albus that you don't have to have a great start to become a great wizard.
Draco is very accepting of Scorpius' choice of friends and of Scorpius's desire to hang out with the Weasely-Potter clan.
Lily Luna is sorted into Ravenclaw because I want her to be in Luna's house because that would be cute. And to be honest I don’t really understand why Albus is the only Potter kid to be sorted outside of Gryffindor. It makes sense to me that if Harry and Ginny were supportive enough of the kids’ individual characters to raise a Slytherin then there could easily be another Potter kid sorted into a house other than Gryffindor. Hugo is also sorted into Ravenclaw Alice Longbottom is sorted into Hufflepuff while her brother Frank is sorted into Gryffindor. The Scamander Twins are also Ravenclaws. Victoire is in Gryffindor. So is Dominique while Louis is in Slytherin. Molly and Lucy Weasely are both in Gryffindor. Fred and Roxanne are in Gryffindor. James Sirius is Gryffindor and Albus Severus is Slytherin. Scorpius is Slytherin too. Rose is in Gryffindor and Teddy is Hufflepuff.

Preparations
By @traveler022010
884 Words, G Rated
Just a short fic from Rose’s POV on getting ready for Hogwarts.
*
Her eyes fluttered open.
The clock on the nightstand next to her blinked, 3:37… 3:38.
She sighed and tossed to the other side of the bed. The moonlight streamed through her bedroom window.  She spied her family owl in a nearby tree, probably conducting his nightly hunt. He suddenly swooped down, and out of Rose’s view.
Her mind started to race: owl… quills… parchment… assignments… books… teachers… Hogwarts…
She sighed again and turned to stare up at her ceiling, where her mum placed plastic glow-in-the-dark stars to create constellations. Despite her dad growing up in a very non-Muggle house, the Granger-Weasley household leaned more to Hermione’s Muggle side. There weren’t enchanted irons or knitting needles.  That even meant that Ron needed to take the Muggle driving test. Hermione wanted to show her children that both the Wizarding and the Muggle worlds could co-exist; that both were equal.
Rose looked at the constellations. “Orion,” she whispered. “Cassiopeia.”
A squeak in the floorboard outside her door startled her and she suddenly turned towards the sound.
It was silent again.
She let out the breath that she apparently was holding in. She shook her head, as if to clear her mind.
Why am I so nervous? she thought to herself.
She was finally going to Hogwarts. This had been her dream ever since she could remember. Some of her first memories were of others talking about the Battle of Hogwarts and her parents, her aunt, and uncle. How brave they were. How they were heroes. Even now, after so many years, a random witch or wizard would come up to her parents and shake their hands, giving their deep appreciation.
How can I live up to that?
She turned and looked at her clock. 3:45.
She sat up and picked up a pencil and pad of paper from the nightstand. She looked at the pencil, and chuckled softly. She recalled when her mum gave her the box of pencils, pens, and markers two years ago.
“You’ll be using quills at Hogwarts but here in the Muggle world, these are what you need.” Hermione picked up the pencil. “The sharp end is what you write with; the rubber end is how you erase what you wrote.”
Ron walked in the room with Hugo sitting on his shoulders. “Your granddad was fascinated with all of that. Remember that quill pen we had for the guest book at our wedding? He took it apart halfway through the reception.”
Hermione smiled. “And then George bought an entire set in different colors for your dad’s birthday.”
“Mum couldn’t visit Bill, Fleur and the kids quick enough.” Ron chuckled. “Just so dad could ramble about those damn things all by himself.”
Hugo loudly yelled out “Damn!” which made Hermione give Ron a look to which he grinned, sheepishly.
Rose giggled both back then and in her darkened room as she recalled Hugo’s first curse word. I’m going to miss that little squirt. She and Hugo said their goodbyes the day before as he was visiting Grandma and Grandpa Granger for the weekend to give her parents some much needed alone time.
The clock finally hit 4:00.
Putting the pencil to the notepad, Rose started to write out “How to Succeed…” then she erased it quickly.
She started again “Ten ways to…”
Erase.
“Making sure…”
Erase.
She tapped the pad with the end of the pencil. Her eyes glanced around the room. In the dark, she could still make out her signed Holyhead Harpies poster, the overflowing bookcase, a box of tricks from Weaselys’ Wizard Wheezes, her truck packed for the upcoming journey… her eyes stopped at the family portrait on the wall next to her window.  There was no movement as it was a Muggle photo. Everyone was still, just like they were when the photo was taken. Rose had specifically asked for the photo like that.
Taken a year ago, she and Hugo sat on the center of their couch with their parents flanked on either side of them. Her mother’s hair still seemed wild yet put-together. Her father had subconsciously covered his arms, blocking view to his scars. Hugo gave a toothless grin as his two front teeth had fallen out the day before. And then there was Rose. She had styled her hair the same way as her mother. Her clothes were the same colour as well. Even how she sat up on the couch. Just like Hermione.
While still looking at the photo, she wrote something on the notepad.
“What My Parents Did At Hogwarts”
She looked down and continued her list. Remembering all the details on how her parents met. And how they met Harry. And what to do at Sorting. And which classes Hermione took each year. And how Ron tried out for Quidditch.
This was her checklist. She was going to accomplish everything her parents did and more.
She yawned, and then glanced at her clock. 4:19
She put the notepad and pencil back on the nightstand and settled back into bed. Maybe I could get some sleep now.
She turned over and looked out the window again. “And at least I won’t have to worry about dark magic and Voldemort like they did…” She chuckled as she closed her eyes.
