many would be surprised to see this mature looking high school third year, a giant of a high school third year, actually having a soft heart underneath all his muscles and intimidating looks. he was just the sweetest, and you could vouch for it—because he really had a hard time saying no to you and your antics.

sure, you were smaller than him (and the much cuter one in the relationship, in his eyes) though you were like a firecracker; going off whenever everyone least expected it and just doing what you wanted at any given time.

sugawara and daichi were always worrying for the big man, he was responsible, though when handling you, he'd melt into a big puddle of shyness and utter affection whenever you'd peck a kiss on his cheek or give him a hug. you could never keep your hands off him, to the point that when you were being so clingy to him one time, he came into practice looking all bashful, with you riding on his back, gently biting at his reddening cheeks that just kept blushing due to how cute and loving you were being to him.

he can never get used to how much love your smaller self had for him, he can't take all the love you could give, though he was always willing to take it all and give you all of his love for you. you always surprised him with how hyper you could be, but that was part of the wonderful, lovable package that was you.

he was always a worrier, much like daichi, and he could never settle down to think until you were safe and sound, not causing any chaos nor finding yourself in any chaos. he did respect your independence and never sought to control your actions, though all he hoped to teach you was self-control and moderation, that you can be as chaotic as you want with him, but make sure not to hurt others nor yourself when doing so.

he has said to you before, you can do whatever you feel like with him, just make sure not to hurt yourself or others—so you did just what you felt like doing when kita was mopping the floors of the gym. you rushed up to him, screamed his name all loudly and sweetly, and jumped on his back. gin, aran, suna, and the twins were there when it happened, and of course, they were all partially shocked to see that kita didn't budge at you lunging at him.

suna filmed you kissing down his neck as kita held your legs in place so you wouldn't fall, and steadied your grasp on him. "my love, i did say you could do what you want with me, but what i meant by that was behind closed doors." he reminded you with a stern, yet soft, voice. he could never raise his voice, especially not towards you, his beloved. mopping the floors would have to be rescheduled for later in the day, looks like right now, kita would be taking you outside to piggy back ride you as you smothered him with all your affection. the most unpredictable part of his days are always with you; they're always the most exciting part of his days.

i think they should get thrown into the world, visionless and defenseless. let's say they get thrown into mondstadt just cause that's my fav region. they end up in windrise and right next to that hillychurl camp to the right of the tree and tanaka wants to go fight the mitachurl but gets held back by the collar by ennoshita okay he's not stupid enough to let him go

theyre just standing there, figuring out where the hell they are

honestly. i think they end up running into a knight or adventurer (also confused as to what they're wearing) and escorts them to the city

i dont mean nothing at all but like. them being there doesn't break the entire world as it is its just. mundane but in such a FUN way

i dont think anyone in particular ends up with a vision but I think suga and takeda would be very interested in learning how it works. daichi or asahi has to stay with the 2nd years at all times to make sure noya or tanaka aren't harassing jean (she deals with enough shit actually). both pass out when lisa low key flirts w them (shes just messing with them tho its not anything crazy)

ukai? good buds with diluc and charles and the angel's share after a while. hinata LOVES timmie and is a tcg GOD. befriends diona doing that

yachi and kiyoko spend a lot of time in the knights library with lisa chatting and eventually join the adventurers guild part time and go take some commissions once in a while together. sometimes takeda tags along to make sure they're safe (he doesn't do much)

tsukki and yamaguchi also become tcg gods and end up meeting a few people through that, and really want to explore around some of the other nations, so they make a field trip and go south to liyue. chaos ensues there and hinata falls in love w beidou (not in a romantic way just in an appreciation way) and is excited about becoming a pirate

i have so many thoughts. there's so many and I think their relationships with each of the characters would be so FUN. everyone knows them as the weird squad of guys that isn't really from anywhere but everyone appreciates anyway

Idek where to begin... he's just such a wasted potential of a villain 😭 I think the best way to describe him is like an underutilized Vayne Solidor (but he was buff to begin with, not made buff at the end LOL)

Spoilers up to shadowbringers will be mentioned so let me throw in a cut

I feel like Varis and also Zenos are so fascinating from a perspective of like, generational trauma. Emet-selch lost everyone he loved and was treating humans like pawns for all this time, but the way he treats Varis in particular is just so vile. He absolutely shaped him into who he is, and then in turn Varis did the same to Zenos. That short story about Emet where he had some hope in his first son only to see him die so young, it just made him so much more jaded about humanity.

You have to figure, like, Varis had to have been a child when his father died. It's not really stated what happened to his mom so who knows if he had any supportive family growing up, but his father-figure is his grandfather, the literal emperor and founding father of Garlemald and he has nothing but disdain for Varis. Even if he was a bit older, say, a teenager, it would still do so much mental and emotional trauma. I get the sense Varis values military prowess above all else (shown in how he treats Zenos in his little backstory thing also) so I have to imagine Emet drilled that into him.

But it's SO tragic to me, and this is where the comparison to Vayne comes in, in that he seems to genuinely believe (at least his dialog 4.X patches leads me to believe this) that assisting the ascians in the rejoining will somehow elevate himself and mankind (more specifically garleans) to the degree of power he desires. And I don't know if he's convinced himself that he'd somehow become an ancient after everything is said and done, or that he would find a way to outsmart the ascians, but it's so damn tragic that he has these ideas of grandeur and freedom but ultimately is just another pawn to the ascians like so many before him. And for that matter, that he was groomed into being this awful, awful person by the trauma he endured.

I would love to have seen that explored in more detail, and apparently there was going to be a garlean expansion that got cut so who knows if they would have explored any of his character. It's tbh one thing I love about stormblood, is that so many characters are presented in a way of "are people born evil?": Lyse, Fordola, Yotsuyu, Asahi, Arenvald, Zenos, hell you could even argue Yda, they're all presented as people who went through traumatic events that forever shaped them, and in some cases they ended up on the side of good and on the other they ended up committing horrific crimes against their own people.

I would have loved to see Varis explored in similar ways, and I feel like the way I view the character is definitely from that lens. Is he the way he is simply because that's who he was always meant to be? Or is it due to the indoctrination of his culture, or the way he lost his father only to have that role filled by a cold and cruel man? I'm aware I'm reading a lot of depth into a character that isn't actually there lol BUT I AM SEEING THE POTENTIAL FOR WHAT HE COULD HAVE BEEN!!! 😭

I do think it's such poetic cinema that Zenos is the one to kill him in the end. It feels like the cycle of abuse finally came back around to him but Varis is so completely blindsided by it, showing just how little thought he put into the way he treated his own child.

I've got major Asahi brainrot so: he stress-cries. Particularly after games. Suga keeps tissues on-hand because he knows whether they win or lose, Asahi's gonna need to decompress. It takes the team a little time to understand he's fine and just needs to let it out, but once they do they're nothing but supportive. It doesn't make Noya any less protective, though :P

ok i keep watching video essays on haikyuu and i just have to brainrot

so ive watched a good amount of anime--not a ton but enough to say that haikyuu makes you care about each individual character an obscene amount, more so than any other series ive watched. and as someone who mainly enjoys fantasy/magic shows where the stakes are always insanely high, haikyuu is one of the only shows where ive found myself actively holding my breath and screaming at the screen. and in a show where the highest stakes are losing a high school match, why?

the perfection of haikyuu lies in that it is a low stakes show. it's normal. all of the characters are normal people, no magical powers, no foretold destinies, no world-ending prophecies. they're normal people, dealing with problems we deal with. asahi and yachi dealing with anxiety, yamaguchi struggling with self-worth, tanaka thinking that he's just a normal guy and doesn't need to expect as much from himself.

they're just like us. i've had times where i failed at a challenge and it made me quit what i was doing. i've given less effort than i could have because i didn't think it would make a difference in the result. they're just people, and they have similar drives and aspirations, which just makes you want them to succeed more. because if these characters, these regular people, can go up against normal odds to perform in normal scenarios, so can you. yes, it's inspiring to watch deku from mha face off against a superpowered yakuza at 15, but i'm never going to do that. those are odds i cannot imagine in my life. but failing to get into a school i wanted and deciding to do my best at a "lower tier" school anyways like kageyama did? i can do that. it's inspiring to watch kageyama recognize the aspects about himself that caused him to fail in the past and see him address, improve, and utilize them because that's something i can do too.

the characters in haikyuu don't make you cheer for them despite how low the stakes are-- they make you cheer for them because of it. because you can do the things they're doing, succeed the way they're succeeding. their sheer determination feeds your will. and i think that's something really unique to haikyuu that's really, really special.
