The second one is really vague and I’m sorry for that but I remember a WangXian fic where Wei Wuxian is part Veela and maybe he’s a Slytherin or Hufflepuff? I can’t seem to remember anything else besides there being a focus on Wei Wuxian’s volatile nature and battle prowess due to his Veela blood. He may have also killed a guy, or at least severely harmed some guy in self defense. I loved their world building and I’m so upset that I’ve lost both of them. Thank you for the help in advance.

I have a request though, I'm trying to look for this fiction where wei ying is a general (i think) and lan zhan is a dragon, and there's a war between all sect, with the lans, the nie, and wen on one side, against the jin and jiang on the other. There's also animal shifters among the gentry where I think the jiang might be water birds?? I can't quite remember. The jiang and Jin end up defeated and the others win. Wei ying.is also a genius tactician and is respected by the other side of the war. I can't remember the name of the fiction and I'm desperate to find it. I think it's a completed fic too

9. Hi! I'm looking for a WangXian fic where WWX and LWJ go back in time but WWX goes back a very long time before his birth. He holes up in the Burial Mounds and becomes notorious as the YLLZ. He's also pretty depressed I think? When WWX realizes that LWJ is born he storms into the Cloud Recesses and demands LWJ's hand in marriage -- LWJ is only 12 (I think) at this point and LQR and LXC are horrified but LWJ agrees without their input (he still has his original memories). WWX starts out just treating LWJ like a child he's very fond of but when LWJ gets older and becomes an adult, they resume a sexual relationship and I think WWX comments on how they're slowly shifting their dynamics from Kind Mentor WWX/Young Mentee LWJ to Bratty Bubbly WWX/Calm Dominant LWJ. I only remember a scene where lan wangji and the juniors were in a shop or restaurant of some sort and wen xu comes in and intimidates lan wangji to where the juniors defend him. Firstly, I want to say thank you, this blog is awesome, and I have found so many good Fics to read as well as find ones that I have lost or forgot to bookmark.

Secondly, I would like help to find a fic, from what I remember Wei Ying was drunk on the rooftop when someone approached. In his drunken state, he thinks it was Lan Wangji that showed up so he goes on saying things like are you here to punish me again. He also asks why Lan Wangji hates him so much, but the whole entire time it was actually Lan Xichen he was talking to. I think it takes place after he got punished for drinking in Cloud Recess, and then something happens and he almost falls off the roof but Lan Xichen catches him. Lan Wangji had apparently witnessed the whole thing and tried to apologize but Lan Xichen coldly tells him the apology should be given to Wei Ying instead when he wakes up.

18. So I’m looking for a specific fic that I know is on ao3, can’t remember the name of the story nor the author though.

And that’s after looking through my history on ao3 for over an hour.

All I really remember from it was that it was short, like one to ten chapters long.

(And yes I do consider 10 chapters short)

It took place in cloud recess study arc, jiang Cheng punched or got into a physical fight with Jin Zixuan, in the classroom if I remember correctly.

Wangxian:

These boys are both so gay and so stupid. To start, Lan Zhan (blue boy) lives by a strict code of 3,000 rules, almost never speaks, and is very self controlled. Red boy Wei Ying comes from a much more relaxed place, is a chatterbox who likes being the star of the show, and thinks rules might as well be suggestions. Lan Zhan spends the first chunk of them knowing each other truly living that one post that’s like ‘in elementary school I got a crush on a girl and I didn’t know what to do about it so I sent her a note saying Get Out Of My School’. Wei Ying decided that meant he should be best friends with the weirdly, stunningly beautiful Lan Zhan (he is also literally the only person to call Lan Zhan by his informal name. Not even his family does). Once Lan Zhan got over the initial gay panic, he decided to be hopeless devoted to Wei Ying, which our red boy thought was great and thought was Just Great Friendship somehow. He even missed that Lan Zhan literally wrote a song about their relationship, but it’s fine.

Wei Ying got dragged into self sacrificial stuff, went through a whole lot of tragedy (to be fair, Lan Zhan also did, there was a war on) but because of the sacrifices he made, he had to use dark magics. And since he didn’t tell anyone about the sacrifices, everyone thought he was doing the dark magics just because he could. Lan Zhan, our hopelessly devoted boy in blue, never gives up and him and offers to help him with any effect the dark magic has on him, and he is the only one that Wei Ying actually allows to help him. Then plot stuff, more tragedy, Wei Ying dies. Spoilers will happen from here, fair warning, but post death, Lan Zhan breaks a ton of the family rules, is punished for trying to save Wei Ying (and defending him before he died), goes into seclusion for years, and only comes out to raise the young boy Wei Ying had adopted. Then when Wei Ying is forcibly resurrected (plot stuff) he ends up working with Lan Zhan, who spoils him rotten, giving him anything he needs, and the two work flawlessly together. Wei Ying realizes ‘oh these feelings are ROMANTIC’ eventually. More plot. They have a son. Lan Zhan says stupidly sweet things to Wei Ying all the time in incredibly deadpan ways and Wei Ying gets all flustered and says things like ‘have mercy on your poor husband!’ because they love each other so much it’s gross. (yes. this is the full submission note. amazing)

Subnautica Below Zero / MDZS crossover ✦. Word Count - 1001

Wei Wuxian climbed into his sea truck and sighed, immediately falling into his sleeper cabin with music quiet and low. He’d been chased across the purple vents biome by a Chelicerate just so he could gather up a few more lithium for his equipment and base, only to have to get out of his sea truck to squeeze under that gigantic vent garden where another one was hanging above because Lan-Zhan sent him another set of coordinates to check out.

The artifact he’d found hadn't even been anything too useful- and he didn’t have a reinforced suit so when he got too close, he got a free lobster broil- except he was the lobster. At least they were one step closer to getting Lan-Zhan his own body, but why did all of these artifacts have to be smack dab in every annoying or dangerous location on this oceanic planet?! He didn't like the sea enough for this.

Well…he didn’t hate it. In fact he rather enjoyed its beautiful side. But it didn’t like him back, and he just was running low on reserves with little progress made in the investigation on Yanli and Jiang Cheng’s whereabouts.

He just wanted a break, then a clue. It'd been too long since the last one he’d found. He wanted anything- anything at all that would give him a clue to say his siblings were okay. That it was a ruse led on by that damn corporation, that they were both okay and just hiding somewhere and not-

Ring— Ring–

He sighed softly. “Lan-Zhan…”

Another call... It could be important- if it was another artifact he should at least get the signal before he got some rest. Well, if what this was could be considered rest. Bundled up in a wet suit was not the ideal way; he missed wearing more casual clothing.

He answered the call, trying his best to mask how tired he was. “What’s up, Lan-Zhan? Got another coordinate?” He rolled over and sat up in his cot so he could properly listen, pushing his damp hair to the side over his shoulder. He still couldn’t quite get used to hearing the alien’s voice inside his head, but it was a somewhat welcome distraction right now.

“Our searches have been… useful, but… I have no evidence as to the fate of my people. The network I hoped to rejoin may no longer exist. I cannot feel it.”

Wei Wuxian sobered up somewhat as he listened to him speak. Lan-Zhan had many moments like this- he wasn’t even sure if the other knew this was from a place of insecurity, as he seemed to have lost touch with a lot of human behaviors after living the way he had for so long.

“There could be a million reasons for that. Like…what if the network had a system update? They’re on version 2001.4 and you’re still on version 14.2.”

“That would make me incompatible. How would I even begin to plan my upgrades?”

Wei Wuxian chuckled quietly, leaning over to rest on the side of his sea truck. “Okay, that’s not what I meant. Bad example. You still know how to get home?”

“Mn.”

“So don’t give up. Go there. See for yourself what happened!”

“You are expressing optimism but it is not supported by probability.”

Wei Wuxian sighed and smiled soon after, “Hope isn’t based on statistics. It’s born from a drive for something better. There’s a poem Yanli loved– Hope is human. Hope is…uhh…oh right– ‘Hope is the thing with feathers!’”

“This does not match any fauna I can find in your PDA.”

Wei Wuxian laughed, “It’s a line from a 19th century Earth author. Emily something.

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all -

I promise we’ll get answers one way or another, Lan-Zhan.”

There was a stretch of silence for a moment, before he heard his companion add one last thing:

“Adding ‘Hope’ to your database.”

Wei Wuxian’s eyebrows rose as a small notification did indeed pop up on his PDA after the call ended.

Hope is an animal of unknown origin. According to Wei Ying and a poet named Emily Dickinson, it is described as having feathers. My database found the poem Wei Ying was referring to:

"Hope" is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard - And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm - I've heard it in the chillest land - And on the strangest Sea - Yet - never -in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me.

The presence of Hope seems to inspire humans to persevere in the face of adversity. Perhaps humans keep a Hope with them at all times.

From this notation, Hope appears to be a hardy avian creature. It is capable of surviving at sea and in cold climates. Having "kept so many warm," Hope might be observed to produce exothermic chemical reactions.

Assessment: find and maintain Hope.

Wei Wuxian’s expression softened and he gently thumbed the edge of his PDA. Classic Lan-Zhan… he laughed quietly as he laid down in his cot, staring at those last words. Find and maintain hope, huh? His heart was in the right place.

He would miss him…

His smile faded somewhat as he thought of their eventual separation. Of course he wanted his own body back, but…what would he do after it all? Where would he go? It's not like he had a ship to leave on, and who knows if he could go back to normal life after this.

He sighed quietly and put away his PDA. He would cross that bridge when he got to it. They were together now, for who knows how long.

He had plenty of time to think about it after he got some rest.

Hello yes, for the WIP questions, I am intrigued by Wei Wuxian getting arrested?

Okay so! There's this angsty teen movie that I used to love when I was an angsty teen (and recently rewatched for the nostalgia factor) called 'According To Greta'. It stars Hilary Duff as Greta, an edgy, suicidal, problem child teenager sent to live with her grandparents for the summer in New Jersey, and no one is really happy about the arrangement. She starts seeing this boy named Julie who's a linecook at a restaurant in town, and when she finds out he was arrested and sent to juvie as a teenager for joyriding she decides to invite him over and use him to shock her grandparents' conservative sensibilities. He's a nice guy and the grandparents end up liking him which Greta is pissed about, and Julie's pissed because he doesn't appreciate being used like that and tells her so. Of course they make up and go on their merry little summer romance way -- to the point where Greta invites Julie up to her room one night to try to sleep with him, but the grandparents' nosy neighbor sees him climbing the trellis and calls the cops to come arrest him, and the grandparents believe for a brief minute or two that he's gone back to his criminal ways to rob their house (which is cleared up without him actually getting arrested).

But! all of this to say - I just had it in my head that it might be a fun little angsty scene to have a WWX who's been kicked out of the Jiang house come to LWJ for a place to sleep for the night. WWX is having a shitty night and has no idea what he's going to do next, LWJ (who doesn't know what's going on with the Jiangs) is wondering if this is finally the night all his secret teen romance dreams come true, and then the cops show up to arrest WWX because someone in the Lans' prissy uptight neighborhood saw him climbing up the trellis to LWJ's room and decided to call 911 about a suspected burglary. That's about as far as I got and I don't know if I'll continue it or not, but here's most of it!

“Lan Zhan,” he whispers, tapping carefully on his window. It’s thick and double paned but he’s just barely tapping it with one knuckle, half afraid and half hoping that Lan Zhan sleeps lightly.

He knocks for a good while, maybe ten minutes he thinks, before a bleary-eyed Lan Zhan glares at him through the glass, his scowl almost hidden by the reflection of the full moon. Wuxian hunches his shoulders a bit and tries to look apologetic as he waves, a weak, half-hearted thing that at least convinces Lan Zhan to open the window.

“Wei Ying?” he breathes and Wuxian thinks he could cry, if he let himself. Lan Zhan always says his name so gently, so long as Wuxian hasn��t pissed him off lately. “Why- what are you doing?”

“Can’t a boy visit another boy in the middle of the night without it being weird?” he asks with none of his usual breeziness. Even Wuxian is well aware that it’s terrible reasoning and Lan Zhan would have every reason to shut the window again and leave him outside; not that that would be so bad either, it’s a mild summer night and the widow’s walk is a perfectly quiet and private place to sleep if he must do it outside.

“…Mn. The screen-“ Lan Zhan finally murmurs and Wuxian blinks uncomprehendingly for a long moment. It takes Lan Zhan lifting the window up as high as it will go and pressing his hand meaningfully against the big screen still blocking the opening before Wuxian laughs, self-deprecating, and hurries to help Lan Zhan with all the fiddly little pieces of metal holding it in place. When they’re all loosened Lan Zhan pops it out, both of them freezing the moment after to make sure the noise didn’t carry far enough to wake Lan Qiren.

Wuxian clambers into Lan Zhan’s bedroom and spares a moment to be glad that the other boy hadn’t bothered to turn on his lamp. Still, caution is a virtue and so Wuxian makes a little show out of examining the room for the softest patch of the floor to sleep on, goading and pushing until Lan Zhan says, stiff as a board, “We may share.”

Sharing is so fucking good, too. Sharing means Lan Zhan’s warm back pressed against his, and the whisper quiet of his regular breathing, and the knowledge that nothing that can hurt him will find him here.

But then, of course: he should’ve known better than to trust his luck.

It feels like no sooner has he closed his eyes to bask in Lan Zhan’s proximity on his way to sleeping than he’s startled awake again by a sudden whooping, cutting on and off strangely in a way he recognizes instinctively before he even opens his eyes to see red and blue flashing through Lan Zhan’s bedroom in dizzying snapshots.

“Shit -“ he hisses, launching himself out of bed “- fuck!!” A quick glance out the window shows not one but two squad cars, and Wuxian backs away from the nonexistent protection the glass offers quickly enough that he bumps into Lan Zhan behind him.

“Wei Ying?”

“Fuck, I have to go, sorry Lan Zhan I just-“ Wuxian makes it to the bedroom door before he remembers Lan Qiren’s presence somewhere on the other side of it.

“Wei Ying!”

“Sorry, Lan Zhan, I’m sorry-“ he stammers as he brushes past him and shoves the window up its track again. He stumbles out onto the widow’s walk, foot catching on the sill before he rights himself. He’s barely thinking beyond a panicked need to run as he swings over the railing and finds purchase in the same trellis he’d climbed up, hidden somewhat in the shadows between the Lan house, their privacy fence, and the house next door. He descends as quickly as he can, heart rabbiting in his chest and his sweat-slick hands slipping on the smooth bark and leaves of the climbing vine.

He’s roughly three feet away from solid ground and the ability to run for his life when rough hands yank him down and throw him towards the road; there’s no recovering his balance on this one and he goes down hard with a grunt, the pavement scraping up both hands and the arm he’d landed on. He scrabbles to his feet, shoes scuffing on the pavement, but finds himself abruptly caught in a chokehold, his feet flailing wildly as he tries to throw the fucking bastard choking off his air off-balance enough to get free.

“Wei Ying!!”

“WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!” Lan Qiren’s bellow is by far the loudest thing to happen yet save the chirping of the sirens, and Wuxian is at least pleased to see two of the officers standing by to grab him flinch away from the absolute fury of a be-slippered Lan Qiren coming down the front stairs, furiously belting a robe over his pajamas. “You!”

“We got a call about an intruder, sir, and we just caught him sneaking back out,” the officer holding him grunts; Wuxian kicks his feet again and tries to ignore the edges of his vision starting to fuzz out.

“Shufu, please-“ oh Lan Zhan’s here now, Wuxian realizes. He must be hallucinating from the lack of oxygen or something, because Lan Zhan looks more distressed than Wuxian has ever seen him.

Precisely about mdzs!wwx passing one night with cql!lwj, wwx is thrilled by this new adventure while lwj stays in the bed with only the silk outer robe, blinking slowly at this Wei Ying like a cat and looking composed as always has been. Wei Wuxian finds this Lan Wangji so cute that he wants to eat him whole. So he basically does what he used to do in his mariage life: prepare his roleplay. He approaches the bed and when he gets near he wraps LWJ's whole body with the blanket and screams out loud Lan Zhan's lovely name.

Out of all predictions, cql!lwj lets out a tiny squeal calling wei ying's name, his breath freezed. Poor Wangji, even though he grow over his gay panic and he's now confident on his feelings in the CQL verse too, he still isn't used at all to this kind of intimacy (he's touch starved af) and though he doesn't show he feels already adorably dumbfounded at the idea of wei ying sleeping willingly with him (!), but this is not HIS wei ying, his zhiji, so he also feels kinda confused and in guilty.

Wei Wuxian of course reacts surprised: "wait what? I'm usually the poor maiden in danger in roleplay, why it's you now?".

Lan Wangji watches him visibly distressed but he tries to recompose himself soon because he doesn't even want Wei Ying thinks he got rejected.

"Sorry, I didn't expect it. You can advance if you want."

Wei Wuxian notices that even this Lan Wangji has the red ears when he's embarassed and he can't help to get amused again, but then notices something else.

"Lan zhan?? Why you have the high boots in bed??"

Lan Wangji has not the force to admit that he was so emotional at Wei Ying being in his bed together with him that he forgot to take off his boots.

Wei Ying passes the night laughing to death while lwj looks extraordinarily gloomy in sleep. He sure won't lose his face again in the morning 🥰

I had way too much fun writing this one and you can tell.

Lan Wangji feels like the first five minutes of a porno. Not that he watches those. He just knows how the scenarios go. For science. He doesn't use them as inspiration for his fantasies at all. Shut up.

Anyway, he feels like the first five minutes of a porno and he doesn't know if he should be grateful to the heavens or scandalized that he's being tested like this.

He has been brought up in the spirit of discipline and self control, a master of his body and its animalistic impulses. ...And then his roommate and long time undisclosed crush, Wei Ying, has decided to take up at-home yoga and all that's gone to the very last circle of hell.

Lan Wangji is pretty sure he's going to die. He has to, otherwise he doesn't know how long he'll survive pretending like he doesn't see Wei Ying's tempting figure in those incredibly tight yoga pants he's taken to wearing.

Whoever invented those definitely has a vendetta against Lan Wangji specifically. How is he meant to live his life when he walks into his living room at midday, after a long morning of studying, and is greeted with an eyeful of ass as Wei Ying practices whatever poses the yoga instructor instructs in those YouTube tutorial videos?

In fact, Lan Wangji is going to sue this person. And the yoga instructor. And whoever invented yoga. So what if it's an ancient art? There have to be descendants somewhere.

He wants emotional damages in the millions. He has things to do, and he can't focus on any of them when all he can imagine is bending Wei Ying over in those yoga poses in his bed. So someone needs to pay for that. It's an attack on his productivity and well-being.

Today, Wei Ying's sent him for boba. Not that he'd do anything Wei Ying asked (he would, that's not the point right now), but he woke up craving boba himself and the quaint little shop that opened across the street sells the best tea Lan Wangji has ever tasted - so he got dressed to go get something for himself and asked Wei Ying, self-entitled "boba slut number one", if he wanted some too. Expectedly, the answer was yes, so here Lan Wangji is, getting two drinks for him and his... friend.

He's also ordered some of Wei Ying's favorite pastries, because if there's anyone who deserves a treat, it's him - and Lan Wangji sort of selfishly wants Wei Ying to latch onto him and hug him in gratefulness when he receives them. So what.

He's only gone for something like 15 minutes, but when he walks back into the apartment and hears the upbeat voice of the yoga instructor Wei Ying follows, he knows he has about 3 and a half minutes of self control in him before he has to run off to his room and lock the door.

And then he walks into the living room, and Wei Ying's in his tight yoga pants and a crop top that hides a total of zero skin, glistening sweat and red in the face - and Lan Wangji is ready to lock himself up in horny jail. Give him the key and a life sentence.

Wei Ying is bent over in what could only be aptly described as "face down, ass up" (not that Lan Wangji knows, shut up!!), his back arched so beautifully that Lan Wangji's mind can already picture him behind Wei Ying, inside-

"Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying calls out and promptly falls onto his belly before rolling over and taking a much more decent seated position. "I was wondering why you were taking so long!"

Lan Wangji decides he's not that much able to speak, so he just hands Wei Ying his paper bag and smiles at the joyful sound Wei Ying lets out upon discovering an entire collection of sweets and two cups of boba.

"You're really the best, Lan Zhan! I could kiss you right now!"

"Then do it."

Lan Wangji only realizes he says it out loud when he hears Wei Ying gasp. Panic fills him, and he doesn't know if he wants to flee or stay so still that he blends into the furniture.

Wei Ying's cheeks are so red he looks like he's been doused in blush powder.

"...would you like that? For me to kiss you?"

What the hell, Lan Wangji thinks to himself, and crosses the distance between him and Wei Ying, their lips meeting in place of an answer.

"W-wait, my lesson-" Wei Ying moans out as he finally separates from Lan Zhan for air.

Lan Zhan reaches to close the lid of his laptop in response. "I'll help you stretch out."

And he does.

He's not as bad as he seemed to be - Chapter 3 - hmm... interesting

They walked down the least known and the most covered paths.

Lan Qiren led them close to the healing pavilion and left them just out of sight, but still in hearing range. He decided it would be the safest to go in alone and ask for head healer in case of presence of others. It turned out to be a good idea, because as soon as he went in, the healing assistant on duty greeted him.

“Could you please fetch Lan Liangchen daifu, I need to speak with him urgently,” said Lan Qiren and watched the healing assistant scamper off to inform the head healer of his presence.

Soon enough, the head healer, a man few years Lan Qiren’s senior with no nonsense attitude, came to the reception room of the healing pavilion. By looks he was a clear representation of Lan nurture, with regal posture and hidden strength emanating from him. Lan Qiren known him as Qingheng Jun’s year mate and close friend before his brother’s unfortunate marriage, and after that as a staunch supporter of keeping the main Lan family at the helm of the Lan clan and sect. Lan Qiren often sought his advice when he was still a healing assistant when his nephews were feeling off, or when he needed backup when the clan elders tried yet again to take over the leadership or tried to control Lan Qiren. Fortunately for Qiren, Lan Liangchen had a real talent in medicine and penchant for revolutionising the medical arts in Cloud Recesses, so helping him get to the position of head healer had additional benefits for the both of them.

“Liangchen daifu,” greeted Lan Qiren, “could we speak in private?”

Seeing the usually serious Lan Qiren even more serious is a clear give-away that something major just happen and that nobody can find out.

“Of course. Xiangxi, take a break, some fresh air will do you good. Xiansheng, please follow me to my office” Lan Liangchen waited for his assistant to leave and wanted to lead Qiren ahead but seeing him turning to the door instead and calling for his younger nephew stopped him in his tracks. And piqued his curiosity even more.

Wangji came in with a man in his arms, clearly in need of nutrients, medicine and proper rest. The young man was the same age as young Second Jade, or at least close enough to be believed as such. Liangchen was not sure which sect does he belong to, as his clothing was not in any sect colours known to him.

“Lan Zhan,” said the young man petulantly, “I told you I can walk on my own, why must you carry me like a delicate maiden? It’s so embarrassing.”

Calling Wangji by his birth name got Liangchen to rise his eyebrows. As far as he knew, the young Lan does not have any close friends apart from his older brother, and even Xichen calls him by his curtesy name.

Wangji just looked at him with worry in his eyes and seeing the pouting face of his charge softened visibly and just said “Wei Ying.”

Said Wei Ying only grew more petulant, but stayed where he was.

So, the birth name thing goes both ways... Interesting.

It was quite shocking seeing the Second Jade so expressive after so many years of blankness on his face.

Liangchen could see, however, that the whole secrecy is closely connected to the Wei Ying person, so without any more questions, he led the three to a private healing room, where he told Wangji to lay the patient on the bed.

“Qiren, will you tell me what is going on, or should I guess?” asked Liangchen, reaching for the Wei Ying’s wrist to start examination.

“Liangchen, before you start anything, listen,” said Qiren looking straight into the head healer’s eyes. “Whatever you will find, and whatever we tell you, must stay in complete secrecy. No one else apart from us four can know about anything that will happen in this room.” After Liangchen nodded, the teacher continued. “Do you remember the information I got about Wens carrying someone to the Burial Mounds?”

“The one that came when we were discussing plans for the new healing pavilion?”

“Yes. He was that person.”

“He has a name xiansheng, no matter how much you don’t like me,” said his patient irritated. “My name is Wei Ying, curtesy Wuxian, head disciple of the Yunmeng Jiang sect. I would gladly bow, but I am being prevented from doing so by this stubborn Second Jade of yours.” He looked at young Wangji reproachfully, but with fondness in his eyes, that he visibly wanted to hide. By the look on Wangji’s face, he was not regretting it at all.

“No need to bow young master Wei, you are clearly in no condition to do more than rest and replenish your strength,” he said, reaching again for Wei Wuxian’s wrist.

What he found there was more shocking than he anticipated.

The most glaring was an utter lack of a golden core. And to add salt to injury, it was clearly surgically removed, rather than crushed.

Liangchen gave Qiren a pointed look, but only received a nod and silent nudge to continue.

The techniques Liangchen invented and developed in spiritual examination allowed him to reach earliest sicknesses. He worked on this technique for years, ever since he was a young healing assistant. He discovered that bones and other tissues have a memory far greater than anyone ever anticipated. Each injury and health condition leaves a mark, which changes the way each tissue functions, no matter how slightly, and in turn can be used by an experienced healer to define the age and possible cause of the injury. His innovations and medical treaties got him wide recognition among the famous healers and allowed Qiren to promote him to his current position. He was never as grateful for his insight into patient’s medical past as right now with his current patient.

Even considering he was thrown into the Burial Mounds, the extent of Wei Wuxian’s injuries was beyond any imagination. Counting from his 5th to 9th year Wei Wuxian experienced severe starvation and what looks to be animal bites and beatings which left him with several bruised bones and even broken ankle. Afterward, even if his starvation was decreased, there are periods in his early teenage years, during crucial growth spurts, when he was not given proper nourishment. Scars from regular cultivation training and night hunting were to be expected, but the lashes he received imply serious criminal offences, more than punishment for bad behaviour and mischievousness most of junior disciples partake in. He also had several broken or fractured bones in this period, all spread out throughout the years, but of minimum one every 8-12 months. It was shocking to know that this young man was a Head Disciple of a great sect, rather than a mercenary or a criminal with how many injuries he sustained in his young life. Even more so was the fact that Wei Wuxian was even able to move.

When he finally got to the point where he suspected the massacre of Lotus Pier happened, the history of his health only gotten worse. The whipping from spiritual weapon, most probably Zidian, followed shortly by throat injury and another period of low nutrition, were the last recorded before major trauma which was the core removal surgery. Although the surgery site itself was clean and precise, the beating he received shortly after, and the stab wound caused the stiches to rip and the wound to get infected. The next set of injuries happened only hours later. Broken and bruised bones, dislocated discs, severe concussion, bruised and split internal organs, including kidneys and liver... It is a miracle the young man is even alive.

The more he examined, the more injuries he found. Even as detached as a healer should be he could not ignore how difficult Wei Wuxian’s short life was. No wonder Qiren brought him to Liangchen directly. There is only one other doctor he knows of that could treat the young man efficiently, and she’s most likely either dead or imprisoned. Thinking about it, he does not know any other surgeon who would be able to remove golden core so precisely.

“Qiren, you need to find Wen Qing, and bring her in immediately.”

so it all started happening when me and @obsclete watched Bly Manor together and brrrr the brainworms went insane

so in my head it wouldn't be a 1:1 AU, because there are intrinsically different stories and characters, and trying to change MDZS to fit into this mold would be a disservice, so i'm going more for "similar plot and vibes" but definitely not trying to replicate every plot point, sideplot or character relationship

i wrote a whole thing just now that i decided to shove into a google docs bc it got too long, but the general idea is: Modern AU (21st century), Bly Manor is actually Luanzang Gang Manor someplace in China, which belongs to Wen Popo and Uncle Fouth. A-Yuan is the child (just one) who lost his parents.

yes the manor is actually built on top of the old Burial Mounds, but the story isnt the same as MDZS, and i wouldn't call it a reincarnation AU either

there is, however, an ancient demonic Yiling Laozu, and his spirit (or what's left of it) is the Lady of the Lake

Wen Qing (cleaning and such that wen popo cant do anymore) and Wen Ning (house cook) live in there with Wen Popo, helping to take care of the house and a-yuan, who became traumatized after his parents death and an incident with two ex-workers from the manor (i'm thinking xue yang and xxc with something similar as peter and rebecca). there are ghosts (hi a-qing). uncle fouth takes care of the adminastrive and money stuff, but he has to live in another city bc of the wine brewery he owns

it's hard to say who in wangxian are dani and jamie, i found it hard to fit them in a mold. just know that wangxian knew each other from their teenage years (manchester chinese center in england, music lessons), then became close friends in college, until something Bad happens between him and probably wen chao, and he has to drop out in the first year and run away as to not affect the jiangs. lan zhan graduates with a teaching degree and moves to china, then he learns about the live-in postion in luanzang gang and takes it for reasons i still need to think better about. it turns out wei ying was there too, working as a general maintance guy who also gives a-yuan music lessons. these wens prob heard about what happened in europe (and likely knew wy personally in manchester idk) and decided to take him in and help him

i have a lot of ideas to how it evolves, but i have One scene stuck in my head, which is the one where the Lady of the Lake is taking Flora away, and Dani goes after them yelling "it's me, it's you, it's us!" i keep pictuing a faceless, dark, resentful ghost of the yiling laozu who finally found "a-yuan" again (same way Viola did when she found children who she thought was her child) carrying him to the blood pool (which became just a lake now... or is it) as wei ying run desperately after them, screams the words and takes the yiling laozu into himself to save a-yuan..... yeah....

(the backstory of this yiling laozu will probably have something to do with this post)

anyway yeah, there'll be a lot of stuff about grief, memories, time, probably some references to Hill House as well and idk... i just love the vibes!! it's like "modern au -- no magic (or is it?)" and "reincarnation au? but also not?" and feelings feelings lots of feelings!

4. Hey! This is an nsfw ask

It is a modern fic where lz takes casual hookups because he doesn't think wei ying loves him. He doesn't love his hookups and the sole owner of his heart is wei ying. One of his hookups is mo xuanyu.

There are two scenes i remember,

One: lwj was kissing mo xuanyu against the wall near lwj's apartment. Wei ying came there then and saw this and left immedietly. Mo xuanyu saw wei ying and he didn't let lan zhan turn around and see wei ying. Mo xuanyu keeps kissing lwj.

Wwx has adopted ayuan and they run into lwj, who came into town on business, at a grocery store. That night wwx messages lwj and they start hooking up.

There is a ton of angst and sex and EVENTUALLY lwj asks his uncle (or kindly lets him know) that he wants to move back to be with wwx (something like that). I’ve looked into all those tags. Maybe the wonderful mods or a follower know it???

WIP Wednesday: Demon Ink - Chapter 28 - Preview #2

I got smart and used the queue feature for the first time in my life while I was on the computer and it's easier to post large pieces of text. Enjoy! Also, any theories as to why Wei Wuxian is cancelling plans with Lan Wangji last minute? 👀

“I’m sorry!” Wei Wuxian said to Wen Ning with a grimace as he lifted his hips to fish his cell phone out of his front pocket. “I have to call Lan Zhan.”

“No worries, Master Wei,” Wen Ning said with a smile. “I’ll close my ears.”

Wei Wuxian chuckled as he brought up Lan Wangji’s contact info. He had never thought about talking dirty to Lan Wangji over the phone, let alone phone sex. Now, regrettably, it was at the forefront of his mind. It took all of Wei Wuxian’s will to push it aside as his phone began to hum as he called Lan Wangji. He hastily tried to compose what to say but did not have much time as Lan Wangji picked up almost immediately.

“Wei Ying.”

Wei Wuxian suppressed a shiver, if only to save face in front of Wen Ning as Lan Wangji’s deep voice resonated in his ear. He swallowed around a newly formed lump in his throat before he replied.

“Ah! Lan Zhan! Hi!”

There was a distinct pause during which Wei Wuxian wanted to sink through the floorboards of Wen Ning’s car out of embarrassment of how manic he must have sounded. Lan Wangji likely spent the moment trying to decode what he was calling about.

Wei Wuxian felt oddly seen when Lan Wangji asked, “Wei Ying. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong,” Wei Wuxian said evenly, though the nervous laugh he added out of reflex at the end gave him away. He sighed and instead went for being succinct. “I’m calling because I won’t be able to come over tonight.”

The line was silent, and then Wei Wuxian heard a soft “Oh.” To the untrained ear, the response was neutral and detached. To Wei Wuxian, who had become an expert in just a few months in Lan Wangji-ology, the simple “oh” contained a multitude of emotions, the most prominent of which was disappointment. Wei Wuxian had to course correct, and quickly.

“Ah, it’s not my fault!” Wei Wuxian gritted his teeth as he realized how suspicious that sounded. Why couldn’t he think before he spoke?!

WIP Wednesday

So uh, I've got an MDZS big bang fic that's been eating nearly all my attention lately, figure I should show people a preview of what I've been working on. Modern-day-with-magic Wangxian AU, inspired by that one mage merch line. WWX is a witch because I'm using it as a gender neutral term.

Back at the apartment, the ‘Friend Initiation’ -as Wei Ying liked to call it - involved the witch demanding to see his laptop (“I know you have one Lan Zhan!”) while making him order some fast food from a place he knew of nearby. Which Lan Wangji had never heard of but since it had vegetarian options so he caved into the wish. Meanwhile Wei Ying had signed into some sort of streaming service, (“It’s not really my account, it’s Jiang Cheng’s, but I helped him set it up and he still has not changed the password. I’ll keep using it until he starts to get better about his password security!”). By the time the food arrived, the man had pulled up some movie that Lan Wangji had never heard of before and looked so pleased about it that he was torn between being happy that Wei Ying was having fun or dreading what was causing him to have the expression. He did not recognize the title of the movie - which was not unusual. There weren’t many movies he was familiar was since in school he’d been focused on studying, and after he’d been lost in his duties. They ate sitting on the couch - Wei Ying insisted on it as part of the ‘initiation’. Lan Wangji couldn’t deny him that when he saw how excited it made the man. It was a novel experience, even if it actually made him feel a bit itchy, almost nervous at first. His Uncle would be having fits about not eating at the table, and a lifetime of abiding by those rules was hard to just ignore. Still, it wasn’t exactly a bad thing to try something new. The movie on the other hand was bad. Very bad. The plot was hard to follow - something about wasps that had mutated because of a corrupted curse - but that was the least of the problems with it. The CG was horrendous, the lead actors were wooden, and the characters were insufferable. Yet, it was clearly something Wei Ying was enjoying, so he made up his mind not to say anything. That is until the witch turned to him laughing after the male lead had gone off on some truly awful monologue about hope, “god, this is bad!” He blinked, “but I thought you liked it?” There was a snort from Wei Ying, “well yeah, but only because it’s bad! That’s what I do with all my friends, watching mindlessly bad B-movies that are so stupid you shut your brain off just to watch them.” “I..see.” He didn’t really. Wei Ying squinted at him, “Lan Zhan,” he said, “have you really never watched a ‘so bad it’s good’ movie before? You know, watching something just to make fun of it?” He hadn’t even realized that was something that people did. “No,” he said honestly, “I…have not watched many movies.” His Uncle hadn’t been interested in what he called ‘frivolous past times, and the few that he had really seen were ones that his brother had convinced him to sneak out and see. There was an overly dramatic gasp from the man beside him, “you have been deprived. I swear Lan Zhan, I’m going to introduce you to more movies! Good ones too! After we take care of this, I swear I’ll make sure to show you the best ones!”

#xiantober Day 29: Olderxian

Lan Zhan got hired by a big tech company right out of college. He is good at what he does and they know it. Because of that, he was fast-tracked to a management position by the time he turned 26. He loves his job.

The only downside to his promotion is that he has to deal with people more often. Not just people in his department, but he also has to deal with other department heads. He's met most of the other managers by his second week in the new position. All but one.

The head of engineering.

He's heard rumours about the man.

They talk of his genius, his humour, his chaotic nature, and most of all they talk about his beauty. Too many times, he has walked by staff members waxing poetic about the man. Frankly, Lan Zhan doesn't buy it.

How can one person garner so much attention? Regardless, he can neither confirm nor deny the rumours as he has still yet to meet the man.

The start of his third week in the position brings a department head meeting. Lan Zhan is the first to arrive.

The others trickle in over the span of a few minutes leaving one empty seat directly across from him.

Right as the meeting starts, the door bursts open and a man rushes in with a flurry of motion. "I'm here! I'm here!" He drops into the seat across from Lan Zhan and sighs.

Their boss looks at the man and shakes her head. "Good of you to finally join us, Wei Ying."

Wei Ying laughs but falls quiet when his eyes land on Lan Zhan. Lan Zhan feels himself freeze like a deer in headlights. The man is stunning, truly.

Lan Zhan has never been one to feel attraction towards anyone. Sure, he can objectively see people being attractive but being attracted is something else. Perhaps, this feeling is a little like that.

He's not sure how he feels about that.

Wei Ying grins like a Cheshire cat.

"You're new because I sure as hell would have remembered a beauty like you," Wei Ying says slyly and Lan Zhan feels his ears burn. "I'm Wei Ying. Engineering."

Oh.

"Lan Zhan," he manages. "Accounting."

Their boss clears her throat. "Can I start now?"

Wei Ying tears his eyes away from Lan Zhan with a light laugh and Lan Zhan suddenly remembers where he is. He blinks and looks down at his notepad, entirely flustered.

The meeting goes by in a bit of a blur and before he knows it, they're packing up to go their separate ways.

Just as he stands, Wei Ying comes around beside him. "Hey, Lan Zhan."

His smile is so nice. "Hello, Wei Ying."

"Are you free for lunch? Figured we could grab a bite together and get to know each other."

Lan Zhan has purposely avoided eating lunch with people at work.

"Okay," he says.

Wei Ying lights up and practically hops. It's oddly endearing. Lan Zhan follows him out of the room to the in-building cafeteria and they settle at a secluded table off to the side.

"So," Wei Ying says as he dips a fry in a sauce. "How's working here?"

"It is good. I enjoy what I do."

Wei Ying chuckles at that. "Well, I should hope so! It always pains me when people get into careers they have no passion for."

"Mn. I am fortunate," he replies.

"That you are. How old are you, by the way?"

He blinks. "I am 26."

Wei Ying lets out a slow breath. "Damn, and you already got promoted? Good on ya. I didn't get my current job until I was 29."

Lan Zhan considers that as he looks at Wei Ying. He isn't sure how old he is, his joy makes him feel so young. He can't be that much older than him.

"Trying to figure out how old I am?" Wei Ying asks with a smirk. Lan Zhan freezes, ashamed. It must show on his face because Wei Ying's expression softens. "It's alright, I don't mind. I'm 37."

Lan Zhan blinks, absorbing that. That's older than he would have guessed.

Not that Wei Ying is old by any means. Awkwardly, still a bit ashamed, Lan Zhan nods and turns his attention to his food.

Wei Ying snickers. "You're cute, you know that?"

Lan Zhan feels himself blush. He doesn't think anyone has called him cute before.

"Oh, also, fair warning. I am known to flirt a lot by default so I just want to you know that if you are uncomfortable with that, tell me, and I will make sure not to do that with you. Okay?"

Lan Zhan nods. "I do not mind it," he says quietly.

"Good," Wei Ying says as he leans his head against the palm of his hand. "But feel free to tell me to shut up if I ever get too annoying."

The rest of their lunch breezes by and Lan Zhan finds he enjoyed himself a lot. So much so that he actively begins to seek Wei Ying out.

They begin eating together once a week. One time turns to two times, which turns to three times. Eventually, they are eating together every day. Lan Zhan eats mostly in silence as he listens to Wei Ying talk about whatever topic his mind supplies at the moment.

It's nice.

Lan Zhan has never had an easy time making connections with people. He has two people he considers friends and one of them is a family friend. He starts to view Wei Ying as an actual friend.

And then...

He starts to view Wei Ying differently.

He knew, right from the start, that Wei Ying was beautiful. But Lan Zhan starts finding himself wanting to reach out and touch Wei Ying, hold him, kiss him. And he knows, he loves Wei Ying.

A lot.

He came to that realization during one of their after-work hangs.

There, seated on Wei Ying's couch together, Wei Ying's feet in his lap, Lan Zhan realized his feelings.

He's heard people talk about falling in love but he never knew you could fall so slowly—so softly—that you didn't see it happen until you landed.

Lan Zhan stared at Wei Ying instead of the movie the whole time.

So, yeah. He is in love with Wei Ying who has also become his best friend. And, he's not sure what to do with that information. He doesn't know how Wei Ying feels and he doesn't want things to change too much.

He adores the relationship they have. It feels so natural and nice. He doesn't feel a burning need to push for more quite honestly. That's not to say that he wouldn't welcome more. Kissing and physical intimacy with Wei Ying would be wonderful, but he loves where they're at.

Perhaps someday, things will change. But for now, he's content with this.

He loves Wei Ying.

And that's enough.
