birth chart analysis: harry styles

today we are analyzing our air king, harry styles. i have noticed i've only been analyzing women so i wanted to switch it up. harry's chart kinda scares me, at least his big 6. anyways, let's get to it!

ah yes, the aqua sun. what is there not to love? the pickmeisha behaviour? the emotional unavailability? the know it all syndrome? LOL ANYWAYSSSS BEFORE ALL THE BUTTHURT PEOPLE COMMENT I WAS JUST KIDDINGGGGGGG (i am an aqua myself, okay? i'm allowed to make these jokes💅). so this placement makes harry a mercury influenced aqua (if u are dumb that just means he is an aqua with some gemini vibes sprinkled onto him). off the bat, we can say that harry is a humanitarian at heart. he wants to change the world and be known for some big innovation. he has a way with words. he likes to learn new things, but he is quite set in his own convictions. harry believes that he is smarter than most people, and he is probably right. developed aquarians are open-minded, but they are hardly wrong about things so their beliefs/convictions don't change much. the shadow side to this is (drumroll plz) KNOW IT ALL SYNDROME!!! with all that aqua in his chart, harry believes himself to be a genius but he is also above the school and education system. 2 cool for skool. did i mention how rebellious he is? harry is a stubborn person in general. he is either super traditional, or super liberal in his beliefs. he does not like to follow the crowd. he likes to come to his own conclusions on things and he has a dislike of sorts for those who cannot think for themselves. harry is eccentric, social, friendly, accepting of others, and a bit flighty if anything. he has some special snowflake syndrome for sure. he likes getting attention for his innovative ideas. he wants to be a pioneer of sorts. he likes to stand out for his uniqueness, so to speak. he wants to help the world and make it a better place. i mean, just look at his merch LOL. he wants to encourage people to be their most authentic selves, because he cannot imagine not living that way.

bro idk what it is with these celebs and libra moons! 3/4 of my analysis now have libra moons. it does add up though because libra moons value social status and luxury. harry is charming, emotionally aloof, attractive, and likeable. he is someone who does not like conflict. he values peace, harmony, and manners. MANNERSSSS. he is polite and sweet to people. he may be fake sometimes and pretend to like people who he doesn't like lol. he knows how to make others like/trust him and he can easily use this to his advantage (read: take advantage of other ppl after making them feel special and showering them with compliments!!). overall, he is very concerned with what is right. he will stand up to bullies, esp with that aqua influence. he likes fashion, luxury, status. he cares a good deal about his looks. he can be quite experimental/unique in his fashion tastes. he is not a very emotionally reactive person. it is rare to see him yell or get very angry. he is calm, cool, collected. a people pleaser at heart. he may have a strong conscience/gets guilty easily. he is indecisive on his feelings. he is a romantic and he longs to be in a partnership. he is very social and always wants to be around people because it energizes him, gives him meaning. the approval of others is important for his self esteem. without it, he may feel empty inside.

Can we get a Show inspired by Lady Gaga's Judas?

Let me begin with a disclaimer: I am neither christian nor grew up christian So I don't know much. I also sort of think of the bible as a collection of stories that are sometimes interesting narratively... That I also don't know shit about so bear with me.

Ok so hear me out. I don't exactly mean the song, I mean the music video. There's this whole background narrative world of a very direct and literal Jesus and co (I think Lady Gaga was supposed to be Mary Magdalene,) in a biker gang in this whole underground biker society.

The choices of how each member was visually represented was super cool (and Jesus is incredibly hot.) Watching the video again 11 years later I kept finding myself watching the clips of theatrical scenes going "wait go back I want to know what was happening there!" For example there's this ongoing scene that get's briefly clipped to that both looks like a worship party but also Judas in separate instances is making out with girls and gets choked out in a fight???? From what I can tell it's like a gathering that turned into a riot and they all end up having to flee. I wanna see more of that don't you?!

There's a whole unspoken world here! and it would make for such a good show! Imagine the story of Jesus and Co. told as if they are a part of biker society that's forced into the underground by the police state. Via poverty and desperation they turn on each other, forming gangs, territories and turfs to each defend their own. Jesus is trying to unite all those forced into the shadows to reclaim their place in society and rise up against their oppressors.

Jesus slowly grows more followers as he sews alliances and preaches of an uprising and overhaul of the status quo, unintentionally garnering a cult-like following as stories are passed and exaggerated. (IDK maybe he could be allowed actual super powers but I like the idea that he's just a dude trying to overthrow they system and some people got a lil too excited.)

Meanwhile, shitty dude Judas is a grifter who's here for riding the coat tails of Jesus' rise to power but is too caught up in his own toxic masculinity and the idea of biker toughness to truly be down with the ideals of societal revolution.

[Again: I don't know shit about the bible, IDK if this is the actual narrative or no]

The primary narrative music video would even make a dope sub plot. Mary's internally conflicted about having feelings for shitty dude Judas despite knowing he is indeed shitty dude Judas and is trying to be faithful to Jesus. As he faith wanes she learns about Judases intent to betray (again) and has a Come-To-Jesus moment where she realizes she'll have to confront Judas in public in order to protect Jesus. (I think that's what's happening, this music video is wild now that I've turned on fangirl brain.)

Just look at these visuals! Cinematography and costuming! You can't tell me that this doesn't look like shots from a gritty HBO show.

I just really want this to be a show and event better that would make this music video retroactively look like a shipping MV or something which would also be hilarious and fantastic.

I know this will probably just be lost to the void but if anyone at HBO sees this, y'all are sleeping on gold.

it gets to be FULL silly with them!! ok but fr i think the arms are an interesting little quirk with v1 and a way that it shows its strange tendency toward mimicry and learning. i wouldn't you know it...i talked a lot!!!

it's known that the machines harvest parts from each other, but i think v1 has a unique block put on that behavior as nothing it gains from other machines would have its capacity for healing through blood contact. however, through meeting v2 it gets a rare opportunity to override those blocks and copy the scavenging it's seen since it can make decently valid arguments that these are the parts of a highly compatible supreme machine and essentially trick its own system (v1 has to do this...fairly frequently in order to do as it pleases)

at first, it's pretty utilitarian with its gains - battle is always its first priority, but it also quickly sees their usage in maintenance. i imagine when blood is low or the battles haven't been going great, v1 has to do repairs on itself as well as repairs to its weapons, and the extra set of hands is pretty welcome as well as the unique properties the arms bring to the table (the knuckleblaster is good for pinching and digging, like fingernails, as well as snipping while the whiplash offers the ability to hold parts together/in place as it fixes them and it allows v1 to reach places most others can't so it won't be disturbed). however, it takes it some time to realize they may have other uses that it could play with, things it could do for its own amusement or even for creation's sake.

BIT OF A TANGENT, but one thing i like to think about...is v1 being very interested in and taken with the idols the ferrymen have made. it knows little about the creative process, it knows very little about making in general, and so its mind ponders over and over the use of something like those sculptures. time went into them, energy, thought and meaning, but v1 doesn't understand it whatsoever. they serve so little purpose and they're so easily destroyed, why make them at all? it supposes initially they have use in their ability to bless, but the terminal tells it that was never their purpose, the ferrymen made them in an act of compassion and their utility is a side-effect of their carving. so v1 thinks and thinks and THINKS....quintillions of thoughts a second, until it decides to learn by doing. it destroys a bunch of furniture and even walls and flooring for wood, and, with more deep thought (staring at a piece of broken wood it's holding for hours), it starts using the claws of the knuckleblaster to carve. it carves all sorts of things it's seen as it cannot create purely from its mind, sculpting out crude forms of everything from the furniture it just broke down for its materials to different demons and machines. and while it doesn't quite get it even after carving dozens of pieces, this makes it realize its extra arms have more uses....it can do whatever it wants with them!

largely it uses them to play with despite the waste of energy this entails, whipping things around with the whiplash and using the percussive blasts of the knuckleblaster to watch trajectories (makes for fun target practice too) and it can do this for a LONG time lol it also likes using the whiplash for something like acrobatics, although it can't think of anything too graceful on its own (its routines grow much more elaborate after it observes more of gabriel's flight patterns...the kind when he's not pissed off). it still tries to make occasionally too, but overall i think v1 is much more interested in the kind of fun it can have with them, the movement they allow it and how it can create change (rearranging the furniture in a room until it likes it using ONLY the shots from the knuckleblaster...although its idea of room "aesthetics" is pretty off from ours lol) of course i DO love it sculpting again to make things for gabe, but it's like. entirely random bc it doesn't really understand significance. like here i made this it's a pillar i saw in limbo :] is for you :]

#playtime is VERY important for v1 #of course it does this in cleared areas #but i imagine some other machines wander in sometimes #and they stand there watching it bc....what is it doin....#and they're both like this for hours until v1 stops enough to sense them #it blows them up and then goes back to playing #also just. three armed coin juggling #cake answers #LONG AGAIN SORRY also late!!!!

Considering Wanda has now become the Darkhold, I'm very interested in her rulling the Flickering Realm - Chthon's dimension. It would be an opportunity to explore its politics and civilization of the N'garai, as it is their home base. What are your thoughts?

I don't think Wanda is interested in ruling anybody, especially not in place of Chthon. I imagine she would feel very strongly that anyone who has been subjugated by him deserves freedom and autonomy. The N'Garai... kinda suck, when you actually look at their history, but they seem to have some kind of caste system and really terrible power hierarchies. I would love to see what kind of change would come from Wanda dismantling those power structures. Defeating Kierrok, the N'Garai Madbhara who terrorized Hexfinder's ancestors, would also be a great way to resolve Wanda's conflict with Nicola.

I'm definitely very interested in the internal politics and societies of demons and other "monster" races. We've seen a lot of development in this area with vampires and, to a lesser degree, werewolves. Krakoan-era X-Men titles have explored autonomy and sovereignty in Otherworld and Limbo, to varying degrees of success. I think it's very clear that these political concepts are on a lot of folks' minds, and it's being reflected in our speculative fiction-- for better, or usually, for worse.

Anyways, while I don't think Wanda should necessarily feel responsible for Chthon's legacy, I do believe that she feels empathy for other beings and races that have been impacted by him. With her powers and status as the Living Darkhold, she's uniquely suited to act as an ambassador for these communities. We have already seen this with K'lay/the Flickering Realm-- in Scarlet Witch #9, she's seen advocating to the In-Betweener for K'lay's autonomy-- and with Elderspawn such as the Bricklayer in Crypt of Shadows (2023). I suspect we might see something similar with the vampires in Blood Hunt.

I would really love for Wanda to become, like, the main go-to character for anything to do with the Elder Gods, Inner Planes (which includes hell-dimensions, mythical realms, and places like K'lay), and Elderspawn. It would put her on the same level as Doctor Strange, while still allowing her to have her own unique thing, as Stephen is generally more concerned with the Outer Realms. It would also allow witchcraft and Earthly magic to retain more of a unique flavor-- I don't love how much Wanda, Agatha, and Jericho's powers have blended into typical Marvel sorcery in the last couple years.

Something I've been wanting for a long time is to get a comprehensive, company-wide update to the lineage of the Elder Gods and the structure of the Inner and Outer Planes, sort of like what HoXPoX did for X-Men comics. Initially, that's what I thought G.O.D.S. was gonna be, and I'm kind of glad that it's not-- I don't really think Hickman's ethos would be a good fit. Instead, I feel we're starting to see it in Immortal Thor, which is wonderful, because Ewing really understands what those sort of mythology-based stories need, and he's already done a lot of esoteric worldbuidling that will cross over nicely. Thor is one of the living characters who is most closely connected to Gaea-- Wanda, as Chthon's keeper and inheritor, would be a really good compliment in exploring this world.

I was smoking cannabis to deal with my sleep issues and I moved to a state where delta-8 is legal but I'm in the process of job searching so I'm not partaking until I get all of that sorted. In the meantime, my dreams have returned VIVIDLY and with a VENGEANCE. Also my audhd insomnia tendencies but when I do fall asleep I'm obviously sleeping well to get all of this intense REM action.

It definitely would make a good video game of some kind though. Just kind of weirded me out for a minute because I'm not used to it and it was very real in the moment. Someone had mentioned the type of pillows I got caused them to 'have very intense dreams' so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that except for the power of suggestion; however, I'm thinking they are just actually comfortable and improving my quality of sleep which would allow me to also hit that REM stage harder so that's the only correlation I could see there.

Anyway... the dream...

The way it started was kind of Resident-evil-esque (the first one) in that me and my allies/compatriots/colleagues/friends(?) were all trapped in a building; however, it was very much an office building not a house. Dreams love to jump around of course so we're trapped and there are an even split of commando-esque guys and government agent type guys with guns trying to chase down and trap me and my party. Most of the doors are locked and so if you can get into certain places you can effectively hide from whoever is chasing you. This is where a narrative roughly starts to coalesce.

We jump to a basement like area that is like a warehouse. P.S. there is also an Alice in Wonderland like quality to the building where size and direction go wonky which is funny lore considering its already a dream but we get an in-dream explanation. The part where it becomes like a video game is that we've overcome obstacles and enemies to group up in the basement and there is conveniently a computer system that will print out credentials that will open doors and grant access to locked places, allegedly there is a way to the town through the warehouse. I want to say it was called Pleasant which directly correlates to something I was watching or playing already, but it might have been MST3K so what was pleasant I couldn't tell you since only certain ones stand out to me.

Anyway, the problem of course is that with the physics being bendable it wasn't guaranteed that the warehouse would actually take us to Pleasant. So we take the credentials and then it starts getting a little skippy again.

Myself and another ally are hiding in this very tight (squeezed in like sardines tight) space and either exit is blocked by either a commando or government agent type enemy guy. I think we got chased a little after leaving the warehouse and used the credentials to hide.

Then it kind of shifts and my ally is no longer hiding with me, the space is bigger and there are stairs and creepy pre-teen enters the situation. I... with suspicions... follow creepy kid and things take a mad-scientist zombie-like turn where he leads me down into another basement area with creepy/rotting body parts which exits into a morgue-like area where creepy kid starts sawing himself some mad experiment meat off of a torso, I think a torso even my dream-self was like, "nah we don't want to look at that," and so I turn around and flee and I think that's about when I wake up from my Silent Hill offshoot. I will also assume this has something to do with my DnD research since I'm about to run a campaign for my friend which towards the end will feature some stuff from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft so I was reading through those modules and I can see where my imagine started running wild.

I kind of forgot that I used to do my best imagining before sleep and getting lost in a story was kind of how I'd pull it off so I guess I'm going to have to give myself some magical girl vibes or something to work with so I don't end up back in horror-land, but dang...that feeling of being in a cramped in space with your enemies right on the other side of the door that was pretty visceral.

ok so i feel like it's about time i've talked about the weird, convoluted headcanon lore i've made for DJMM. everything i leave in my head for too long gets distorted and unrecognizable from.the source

ok so i think a lot of DJMM enjoyers have seen this tweet and while it's fake, because there's like 5 sentences alluding to DJMM in the entire game i've accepted it as fact and I went so overboard with the detail that it says home language. Not like, "original language" or nothing like that, home language

So, alongside the fact that DJMM has a couple things implying that he wasn't originally from Fazbear Entertainment (why would fazbear entertainment issue a warranty... to themselves?...), and that there also just happens to be a wedding dj company called The Music Man IRL that I found by accident, I kind of just made this whole weird thing that before he was bought by Fazbear Entertainment he was a Wedding DJ in Japan.

Alongside being able to set up practically everything, clean up afterwards, and cater to guests in all sorts of ways, he was also made to be able to just... hit the town and stroll down to his destination instead of being directly shipped to or brought there. Imagine being some little kid watching this giant spider thing stroll down the street.

Hold on to that visual, actually, because that brings me to why he considers Japan his home rather than just his... place of origin.

So his bouncer mode. It actually wasn't experimental but rather a very often-used mode of his since I imagine he's attended many weddings were someone has had to be... forcibly escorted out. But what the problem is with it is that during that mode, he is essentially given no restrictions on what he can do and has just been activating it so he can go against orders.

He's big, but he's travelling on hand, hulking around a big bag of supplies on the way, it may take a while for him to get from headquarters to his destination, maybe even days. But what his creators don't know is that he's been taking detours and entire days off to bond with civilians that have been fascinated by him, originally just children marvelling him, but he grew closer to them and becoming much more like a weird uncle to them, growing a bond with a rural community to the point even their families know of him and see him as a friend, and it's this bond that starts to bring problems.

DJMM starts to demand things that robots don't really get to demand, like days off and privacy, which concerns the company as for why he'd even need that. He starts committing outright fraud to insert legally insert himself into society and starts taking tips or some of the profit to spend for himself. He starts tearing out/ sabotaging GPS systems, or disabling microphones so they can't figure out where he's been going or what he's saying. It gets to the point where he outright threatens employees' lives and keeps some hostage to force them into allowing him to do what he wants.

The arms race between DJMM and his creators comes to a close when his creators decide to sell him off to Fazbear entertainment, sieging him and choking him of his battery life before doing a factory reset and sending him off, finally getting rid of him (also voiding Fazbear's warranty on him if his bouncer mode is ever activated again)

While he was able to secretly save his memories, it's not much use now that he's in a whole new country. He's still figuring out how to reconnect with the kids he practically watched grow up but he's also still getting up to trouble in America. we stan a dude who commits... all of this

His design is, now that i realize it, very much inspired by Moguro from the Laughing Salesman. Also he's got the fun eye liquid swirlies from DJMM's Beta design

Weird long hole things in the sides of him??? I've seen NO-ONE talk about this

Those aren't speakers. I thought they were, too, for the longest time, but while staring at his ass for a particularly long time I realized that A. They don't have the texture of his other speakers and B. They go in?

Second, he has a gummy smile. It's not shown a lot since i guess his default position is just an agape mouth but in the rare occassion he clicks his teethplates together, or this one Particular render, he's got gums for days

also what the freak, anytime i try to look up a specific facial feature for reference im always finding procedures for removing it!! i'm sick of it!! it popped up when i was looking up cleft chins for Music Man and it popped up for gummy smiles! we can't have SHIT in his household!! goddamn!!!

It's time to get the knight ring from Naesala!

I love Ike's attitude here. That being said, I did make the decision to have Janaff talk to Naesala, because there's no way that I'm going to fight Naesala. I like to imagine that Janaff did it of his own volition.

This map took me waaaay too many tries, because I was determined not to kill any crows. The crows did not make this easy for me. Additionally, drawing Naesala out without him destroying any of my units proved to be... a bit of a challenge. Finally, I just used Tanith's recruitment skill to summon some nameless NPC's to do that job for me. Sorry, random pegasus knight! Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

A man with a killer axe attempted to attack Nephenee, but I gave her vantage, and she decided to one-shot him with a crit of her own. Oh, Nephenee, you absolute bloodthirsty menace you.

Time for the big reveal! I forgot this happened so soon.

Gosh, such a powerful visual. Poor Elena and Greil. They both deserved so much better.

Some people typecast Titania as the team mom, and I have no objections against it, but I think her sass is terribly underappreciated. I love how often she beefs with Soren, who at this point in the story looks like a literal child.

Two points here:

First, I (ironically) love how Mist's medallion is stolen the morning following Ike and Volke's conversation. If only Nasir had stolen it a little earlier, Ike would have had a very different reaction. Like, yes, family heirloom, it sucks that it's gone, but it's not the end of the world.

Second, I (sincerely) love how Ike is allowed to be a bit of an asshole sometimes. Like, when he gets stressed out, he lashes out at people. He gets cranky and irritable, like in that conversation with Jeorge about battle tactics. And it makes sense. He has a lot to shoulder during PoR, and he never asked to be put into any position of leadership in the first place. He's allowed to be angry and bitter about it.

I always forget that, on top of their prejudice against laguz, Daein is also anti-immigrant. Really, the toxic patriotism of Daein feels so painfully familiar at times. I feel like someone could write an entire essay on this subject. Additionally, I wonder if Jill has experienced anything like this, or is it different because she was born in Daein?

Man, I both do and don't feel for Shiharam. Like, okay, he's a good man. But he's also a man who allowed his daughter to participate in laguz hunts. I know it was all for the purpose of gaining the king's trust, but still. He kind of made this bed for himself. I don't know. It's such a complicated matter, and I like that he's a complicated character. My feelings about him just keep flip-flopping all over the place.

Gotta love Soren's pragmatism! I love how he deeply understands how society functions, while also being critical of the systems in place. I feel like you usually see this sort of pragmatism from characters who are rich and full of themselves, blaming the underclass for their own misfortune. Soren knows why things are the way that they are, knows that, because the people rely on nobility for protection, there is a huge power imbalance between nobility and the common folk. As he says earlier in Begnion: "From the moment of our birth to our final dying gasp, we commoners know we are not allowed to defy the upper classes."

So while Soren's lecture here is extremely brutal, I don't think it comes from a place of bad intentions. In his eyes, Elincia is naive and inexperienced, and has thus far been ignorant of the true horrors that the average Crimean has had to endure. He is angry because he cares. He is angry because he's worried about the future of Crimea.

I'm just... I love Soren. As Ike says, deep down he's a big softie.

And I finally got Mist to second tier! With this, I have officially gotten all of my main units to class up.

The Talrega map was a walk in the park compared to the previous one. I basically had a small group (which included Jill, Ilyana, Rolf, and Astrid) squat by the houses in the upper left section of the map, and their only job was to destroy as many wyvern riders as possible.

Everybody else just rushed towards the boss at top speed.

Next time: time to lay siege to Daein Keep!

House Environment Headcanons

Since we all know that the Nine Houses system is our solar system, here's how I think the planets have been made suitable for human habitation. Take these with a grain of salt!

The First House: Earth with no ice caps. Contrary to popular belief this wouldn't cover all land, but it would significantly shrink it. I assume that Canaan is located in the sparse remains of New Zealand, probably the north island since thats the part where NZ is most broken up! I remember in GTN, Gideon describes the First as being smeared with grey and green in certain places.

The Second House: Terraformed Mars, pretty much. The iron rich soil would definitely make the landscape ruddy. This map from reddit is sort of what I imagine, but the deserts are much more red! Reactivating the volcanoes on Mars would help with the atmosphere.

The Third House: I'm sure they get a fuck ton of resources from all of Jupiters moons, but the bulk of the population probably lives on terraformed Ganymede. There's likely no land, but hey Io is a hell scape with a fuck ton of dirt! Also in NTN jod reveals he has land-raising abilities. I wouldn't be surprised if he could just create a large island for the Third. I imagine the Third House is one large metropolis located on a mountainous island, high enough from sea level to prevent tsumanis, hurriances, etc.

The Fourth House: Most likely the fourth house was founded on Titan, the largest moon of Saturn. I imagine the atmosphere is pumped with greenhouse gases to keep the air warm. I always saw the Fourth as a global boreal forest with snow most of the year.

The Fifth House: Titania was most likely the moon that was terraformed. Contrary to what the temperatures should be, I think the Fifth is quite warm, think American Midwest. I think some combination of hyper-futuristic technology allows for sunlight to be absorbed and disbursed throughout the planet. I love to think of the Fifth as filled with farms with some small cities scattered about!

The Sixth House: Miniature Arrakis with days so hot that the scholars all live underground with blacked out windows. If your familiar with The Last Airbender, I see the Sixth being a sprawled out version of Wan Shi Tong's library with platforms that shuttles land on before descending beneath the surface. Like the fremen in Dune, I think the people of the Sixth would obsessively collect water and store it in underground pools. Maybe cavaliers have their own form of still-suits on the occasion they need to leave the safety of the libraries.

The Seventh House: Venus....fucking Venus. Hell world. Hell hole. A terraformed Venus would probably be entirely tropical and warm-temperate at the poles. I'm sure that after 10,000 years the entire planet is habitable but in the beginning (around Cytherea's time) I think the house made do with floating cities in the upper atmosphere. When the surface was deemed safe the cities could slowly descend and settle around the growing flora. Either way, the atmosphere of Venus is VERY dense and I think it would be covered 90% in clouds. Assuming they have insane amount of rainfall they could trade water with the Sixth or other parched planets.

The Eighth House: Most likely founded on Triton, which is Neptune's largest moon. I don't think the Eighth has the luxury of a livable atmosphere and lives in sealed buildings built partly into the ground. Shuttles are taken into specific decompression bays to adjust to the artificial gravity and oxygen. This environment also explains why the people of the Eighth are so clinical and obsessed with cleanliness/order. If one thing goes wrong then SHAZAM! entire House destroyed. That doesn't mean there isn't beauty in the Eighth, I think that there's dozens of greenhouses of both the recreational and functional variety. They're likely the house that has the most womb-vats and other biological equipment, perhaps thats how they make most of their money?

The Ninth House: We get the most information about the Ninth in GTN, and we can understand that its cold as balls. To me this is giving Siberian wasteland without snow. There's patches of grubby plants here and there, and obviously Drearburh, but its main temperatures are just cold and colder. I see the "soupy white" atmosphere is located close to the ground and it slowly turns navy as it goes higher. Imagine a cloud covered night except the center of the clouds shows the stars. Did I mention the Ninth is cold as balls?

this is such a fun question ! the short answer is that they do indeed have personal social media accounts. all of the working royals have public accounts, and they can have private ones unless otherwise prohibited. long answer is an essay entitled "Social Media, Celebrity Culture, and Royal Relevance in Contemporary Uspana" :^)

kidding, but it is a wall of text:

social media is not really a subset of public relations for the royal family—like, it is, but it's also its own entity. there are certainly public accounts that are maintained principally by employees of the crown, but my sense is that they would've had an entire strategic plan for Influencing™ in the early 2010s when it was solidifying as a concept. the crown, as a governmental institution, has had its own approach to social media since perhaps 2006-2008 primarily concerned with policy communication and public engagement. the royal family, as a sort of related cultural apparatus, attends to the popular interests of performance and spectacle—different kinds of persuasion.

this makes sense in the broader context of beatriz's personal vision of how their family remains relevant: she had already made the decision to lean hard into the wave of celebrity and entertainment journalism that came to shape, then define, the 1990s and 2000s. part of it was her willingness to engage with outlets less deferential to the crown—whether as an appreciator of tabloid gossip's function in society or as a private participant in the kind of combative exchanges that maintain popular public interest. part of it was having the foresight to exploit the adventures and popularity of her many grandchildren: there are ten of them, and they all came of age in the 1990s and 2000s; they all appealed to different swaths of the public; and they surrounded themselves with other interesting figures who'd be in the news with or without the royal association. entertainment becomes a public service, alongside but separate from the royal family's substantive patronage system.

in short, beatriz has been a real "all publicity is good publicity" kind of person, and that has shaped both the crown's official strategies and the family's approach to self-presentation. the latter has been thoroughly central to celebrity culture for some time and that has included appropriating social media for their own purposes. social media allows a new level of control for people who had previously been subject to processes controlled by newspaper and magazine editors, television producers, and a cadre of popular bloggers. with the advent and maturity of social media, the celebrity mystique seems to be a relic of the past, but parasocial interactions have taken on a new, powerful shape. the active use of social media by the family, then, is a way to compete with mediated press coverage and maintain their place in the broader national celebrity culture.

while beatriz herself does not maintain any private accounts or have much interest in participating in the management of her public one, it is essentially imperative that the family's working royals have public accounts with regular, personalized posts. they have staff for this who are separate from staff working on other forms of communications. the actual shape of these public accounts depends on the person. take barbie, for example: the social media mandate, for her, is fully a call to influence. her public account is personal the way lifestyle accounts tend to be; she's presenting her life, her marriage, and her children in a manner that is, not attainable, but unprecedentedly accessible. as another example, i imagine arnaut's social media presence is sort of like barack obama's has been. he and his team make statement posts about issues and current events, and he also releases reading lists and year-end playlists and things like that. leonor's posts tend to be polished, professional, and work-related, but she also posts videos of herself discussing events while she's getting ready for them.

the question of private personal accounts is interesting ... i imagine the younger members of the family do have them, although that raises the question of whether they're being monitored and moderated to prevent or manage leaks, etc. at the same time, they have such broad latitude with their public accounts that i don't imagine they'd need private accounts to post the kinds of content most people put on instagram and such. in theory, i feel like there's an approval process that means adults have to consent to having their accounts monitored and, for minors, puts the monitoring responsibility on their parents. julian, for example, has private personal accounts he uses exclusively to keep up with what his son is posting. obviously the teens would all have private snapchat accounts, but why would you make a finsta for fucking around if you're contractually obligated to have your dad follow it ksdjfhsg

i don't think i've really posted any social media content, except for the barbie and german ones that i decided to frame as instagram stories, but ... this is what's happening in the background. i mean, obviously, since the story proper is still in the 1930s when mass media is still in its infancy. i do want to depict the early roots of this in the leonor-centric spinoff which, as we know, is set in the 1990s. she's the test case for the type of attention that becomes trained on her younger cousins, and all of their children are the digital native zoomer generation grappling with what comes next for technology and celebrity in society. exciting stuff.

ALRIGHTY SO- (I'm so sane and normal about these toons and cogs I swear) as I said before, personally I really like to think that brian's brain is a motherboard and/or wires/neuron like things covered in a silicone mold that made it shaped like a brain-! It would explain why when he starts getting more and more frustrated during his battle he starts overheating and eventually leading to his brain exploding at the end- (which leads me to believe that mayhaps his wiring needed some extra cooling to help him prevent that, perhaps being the reason why he has a dome head in the first place so that way it could be liquid cooled by being placed inside of- whatever brian has inside of there shchsdhs) which in turn would make the silicone brain a pretty solid idea-!! Keeps all his wiring n electricical brain bits all nice and dry, but also gives him a little flair and from the looks of it, seems like a fairly efficient way to help stop any overheating caused by his emotions or stress- (I mean he literally starts going red with rage, that's gotta be some hot pieces of parts in order to do that even with some cooling factors in place-) but what's really got my gears turning is that if he does have a sort of wiring inside of that brain mold of his, it would basically be the like- in between of cog parts and toon-ish parts-! Assuming that his wiring would help out his processors n act as any neurons should, they would not only help out his thought process (him being the self proclaimed smart man that he is /lh/lh) but it'd also allow him to feel things-!! Neurons are the main units of the brain and nervous system, they help the brain feel any sensory input from the outside, send signals to help the body control motor functions, and in general just relay electrical signals throughout the brain all the time- Which sounds very much close to what the cog equivalent of a brain could also do (and does for brian)-!! I know all the cogs have brains and all their inner bits, but I justshfhs I think it would be really cool if brian's brain had just a little bit more brain-like functions-!! I don't know if I'm making any sense here, but- if he can think, that man can feel too-!! Probably more than the average cog, but he would also probably just decide not to draw much attention to it-!! I know this started out as silly snowglobe dome talk, but in all reality I'm so very interested in the complexities that the cogs and toons have-!!! Doesn't mean I don't think it'd be silly to shake that man around and see what happens, that'd be silly- even more so to bonk him with hammers- BUT I JUSTSHFBS I THINK-!! THE COGS DESERVE SOME MORE THOUGHT INTO HOW THEY COULD ACTUALLY FUNCTION N FEEL THINGS AND WHAT THE INNER WORKINGS OF THEM COULD POSSIBLY LOOK LIKE-! BRAINS HELP SHAPE WHO WE ARE AS PEOPLE… SO I THINK IT'D BE COOL TO UNDERSTAND HOW THAT WOULD WORK WITH THE COGS AS WELL- but yeshdhghs I'm . very sorry that this got so much longer than I intended, but thank you very much for letting me ramble out my thoughts-!! OHHTHIIS IS REALLY GOOD. i never even thought about him possibly having a heightened ability to feel things like touch . i imagine with his brain also moving around, there's probably other pieces in there that would also be shifting which would increase the need for it to be in a somewhat cooled down area.

Oh oh OH! I have been obsessed over my silly little guys and I need to get them OUT of my freaking System!!!!! Waaaaaaa!!!!

Okay okay so I'm making a little story and it's all about loss and war and change and the want to go back to some sort of "Normality". Like, how you can make your own normal, even through the chaos. Make a new better normal as long as you try and put the work into it..!

Oh it's so personal to me and it's been such a good outlet for my brain and AHH!! All of those good things and now I just want to show off the too many works of art I've made

Okay okay okay so first I need to go RAHHH about my main gay- I mean guy. (I should probably say now that none of the characters have names yet!! I want to wait a bit so I can give them names with meanings even though there's a chance I miiight not haha!) ANYWAY my deer boy oh how I love him so and his silly little egg shaped head I mean just!! Look at him!!! Ahh!!!

As you'll see soon all the other characters have alt outfits!!! He will soon too but I'm still working on them!!!!! I just finished his drawing for me to add outfits too not that long ago :]

He's got tons of baggage and trauma up his sleeve it's almost funny. Dead dad, dead mom, and he's searching for his lost sister who ends up dead anyway? Poor boy. But it's okay because all of that was caused by a war his soon to be boyfriends dad started wahaha!!

And here's a quick glance at his sister for a moment.. her design is very much subject to change! I think I might change her outfit a bit and tweak a few facial features :]

And now onto her little found family replacement basically! This goober of a computer head is new to emotions and the world. She's just trying to get by while making her own clashing outfits :D

She's still in a bunch of development (as is much of the rest of this world and story!) And at first I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep her! I'm still not sure.. a little worried she'll be in the way. But I imagine her as a sort of comedic relief character.. one that's silly but helps in the story in her own weird way!

Enough about her though.. We MUST talk about the Prince! Another gay who also has trauma! A dead mom, and unfortunately an alive dad who is NOT very supportive or kind in any sense of the word.

His mother was part of the royal DragonKin line (better name still in progress). A family history that arose from two ancient God like creatures, a Dragon and a Demoness, who gave birth to a child adorned with the twos features. As a gift to their kid, they made a whole new race based on his image. EXCEPT none shared his purple hue, for he was the only one allowed to adorn the color. As did his kin and their after. The more purple you are, the higher class you are basically.

MY that was alot and not even on the Prince theirself! He's very talented and well trained in many ways due to his father being a prick. He fights, plays piano, reads all sorts of books for his studies. A very jack of all trades character. Knows alot about what's going on, about war strategies, about why there's a war in the first place. He's a great foil for our main deer boy protagonist who knows NONE of that stuff.

And for a good little end point here's concept sketches for the Princes dad.. Though not true royalty, he's higher class since he was born into a noble knight family. One with high enough statis that once he became head of the gaurd, he was given the opportunity to marry the princess at the time :]

You can’t just drop that bit about Peach planning a roller derby outfit and *not* tell us more 👀 I don’t imagine there’s enough people on the island for 2 teams, do they travel to the mainland? Does Peach join a team or put one together from island folk? Can Pokémon join?

(Or does she play not on a team and none of those questions are applicable 😅)

So it was a gradual thing. She didn’t want to do it at first.

Momma peach would push her to do figure skating when she was young, wake up early, practice for hours, endlessly cold, and then on the rare days she had free time, her and the two cousins would play ice hockey, a way more fun thing for her, especially since she could manoeuvre her way around the ice like no one’s business, and had a good swing on her.

She quit as soon as she could, and like everything else, buried it deep down and tried to forget.

Fast forward to the ice rink with plum and grey, she’s very good, much to everyone’s surprise, and grey wants to encourage her to perhaps do it but with less cold, seeing as that’s why she may dislike it, at least in his mind. He has no idea why she can skate like that, but figures at some point in her life she probably enjoyed it? At least enough to get that good.

He goes about setting up a date night. Each member of the trio gets to pick what they do, and where they all go, and grey finds a mainland roller derby who’s playing for his choice. He does not tell the other two exactly what the plan is, they just get dressed, get on the boat, mosey over to Johto, and head towards a very specific building. Peach sees the banners outside about the match, and is indifferent, at least the place serves beer and is a break from work. In her mind, skating is skating, she won’t be into this.

Plum is the one of the trio who is genuinely curious and interested in this all, she blades her way around the island sometimes for exercise and fun, on those sunny days that allow for it. She’s not half bad, but does it casually more than anything.

This is the moment peach finds mild joy in the event. These matches are pretty brutal, there’s a system to it, teamwork sure, but she can kind of get behind that if need be. It’s fast paced, physically demanding, and from the looks of the knocks gained, dangerous. She’s hooked. Never considered wheels instead of blades, and thought anything remotely like ice skating would be prissy and snobbish. This is not.

She has yet to join a group or team, but certainly considers it an option when she has more free time.

Should she join a team, grey would be the one to jump at printing them all shirts, sorting their gear out to be perfect, and generally encouraging the chaos. Plum would worry. Endlessly.

There’s not enough staff who’s want to do it on the island, but perhaps one day she’d travel to a place that trains or plays, and join in. She’s not there yet,but really digs the energy and process for the sport. Definitely tempted to get involved.

Do I draw the hypothetical outfit? I think I should…

i've been writing a lot more recently in short bursts, going between projects. this is something that i finished last night, kind of diving into my character and their one-sided relationship with their "boss." it's kind of all over the place tbh but. who cares.

if it had a title, it'd be "there was something almost soothing in the hard-to-define note of terror in your eye" <- which is pretty long! it's from "i've got the sex" by tmg for character dynamic reasons

only warnings i can think of are like. insecurity, jealousy, vague mentions of alien sex? and the last part is imagining an intimate moment that could be ruined by an easy murder (which could be construed as suicidality?)

O-Ren's mat lies on the floor of the generator room, surrounded by a few bits and bobs. Personal belongings that don't actually feel all that personal anymore. (For instance; a literal piece of one of the people who built them, an amulet from home, a book that they're hesitant to touch.) But more important than that, O-Ren is kneeling at the end of the mat on their knees, palms flat on the floor, and praying.

Well, loosely.

They're running over possible scenarios in their head and trying to work their way out of each one. Sometimes with some act of divine interference on IVAN’s part, sometimes not. Sometimes there isn't an out and everything is shit. It depends on how hopeless they’re feeling that hour.

Accompanied by this is a choking, muttering sound. The kind of thing that makes you wonder whether or not someone is chewing gravel next to your ear. A reinforcement of sorts.

It doesn't change anything, though.

Now they have a new burden to take on at the hands of their own poor decision-making. A choice that they shouldn’t have made as lightly as they did, and now it was a piece of them. The Menace had even accompanied them on the ship (even though Hugo had not for a good hour or two), and while they weren’t stressing in the doorway anymore, nothing really changed. And they had messed up with Juno, and now they had to take far more on than they were accustomed to.

It’s just that they don’t like him. The Menace.

His whole demeanour puts them on edge, as much as they would rather it did not (or however intentional it may be). Reminds them of their guardian’s description of a dolphin’s laugh. A privilege, it had been, to be able to even hear that story. And what a regret it is now. It haunts them more than anything they’d ever thought about before.

“A bright, high-pitched sort of thing, yes? Like two sheets of thin iron rubbing against each other so quickly you can hardly see the switch. They talk to each other like that. All bubbly.”

As taboo as it was to leave, they were grateful for everything that their guardian had given them. For everything… but that.

To be honest, they had no idea what would have happened if their head hadn’t been filled with so many different ideas of that sort. Of earth, of mars, of other planets in their own solar system all made up of gas.

And they kind of don’t understand what Hugo has in mind when he sees Kelsi, though she is pretty, something about her grates on the plates around their stomach. Emotion all heavy in its sincerity as it flows through them at a remarkable speed. Some combination of envy and appreciation all at once.

Of course, of course it makes them feel gross. He’s allowed to do whatever he wants.

And he has, in turn, allowed them to do whatever they want. Anytime, they’re allowed to just pack up and leave as if nothing ever happened there. O-Ren could jump ship if they wanted to, or just get lost on purpose and never return. Do something that they would have never dared to do in a thousand lifetimes. Drink and smoke their life away. Let someone take their core like it meant nothing to them. Would it matter? Would he care?

O-Ren, despite their best efforts, really wants Hugo to care.

What would they even be if he didn’t care?

Hours later, they walk out of that little room, regretting a little bit that they don’t house themself with the others. But it just doesn’t seem right. And they don’t want to intrude now, especially now that they’ve come to think of that place as a private little home.

And… during a routine check-in with everyone, it’s all okay.

Nothing is going wrong, people are getting along, everything is okay without the constant rounds of the ship. Whether or not this should be a reason to stop doing so is filed away into the back of O-Ren’s mind for later. It makes them feel a little safer.

(Then grosser, when they exchange pleasantries with Hugo and can barely tear their eyes away from the octopus-like sucker marks that litter his skin. Not that he’d notice. It’s so obviously unintentional as well, like he just… forgot about the marks now that he’s not in the direct presence of the Menace. Wrapping fully around his wrists and forearms and the back of his neck, so perfect in proportion that O-Ren is both upset and insecure all at once for no justifiable reason.)

Even if O-Ren was never given a specific job to work with ever again, they would never be done working in every meaning of the word. There is no “stop” from the specific moment of creation to the end of the universe unless they die somehow. And that’s just something they have to accept.

Not that they know what their job is now that they aren’t hauling bricks.

But a part of it seems to be pacing around the ship until they pass out from exhaustion and a lack of oxygen. And worrying about their crewmates.

(Jealousy is not in the description, it shouldn’t feel as good or righteous as it does.)

IVAN pushes for them to sit down for a little, apparently unphased by the journey that they have ahead of them. And they don’t mind, really. If he’s treating them normally, they must be acting somewhat normally.

(O-Ren, as stupid as the thought is, wants nothing more than to take off their outside face and reveal a hidden little piece of them. One that couldn’t have been seen by anyone since they left their home planet and blasted off into eternal nothingness with only other work to replace it. More fulfilling work, but work nonetheless.)

It's not that they don't like the chatter, but they're not really focused on it. Or much at all, really. They find themself warming Hugo's drink back up without a second thought while nodding along to another beach ramble/argument.

(The idea is dangerous. And if anyone had done the most surface-level research on their people, they would know just how humiliating that can and should be. Best not to lose any more credibility while they're still with Deep Blue.)

It's become such a boring argument over the past couple days, and they can't even bring themself to care about it anymore. If they're going to the beach, who cares?

(Just flash your bosses, O-Ren. Smart.)

Calmly and as quietly as possible, they slip out of the room without so much as a glance going their way. People too wrapped up in each other to care about the outside world in exactly the way that they shouldn't want to be.

Fighting is disruptive and inefficient, to be avoided at all costs. If one has authority over another, the subordinate should allow things to go as the other sees fit. That’s how it’s supposed to be anyway.

O-Ren knows firsthand that nothing is that smooth.

Of course the moment that O-Ren sneaks away, back to their little room they call home, disruptive little thoughts make their presence known in the most distracting way possible. The pieces that make up their outer-face have become oppressive in nature in the short amount of time it took to get from the control room to the engine.

Thick fingers shift the biggest piece up and to the right. It falls on their mat with a gentle thud.

Maybe he’d like it.

More sheets of hard, heavy rock start coming off bit by bit. Slowly revealing an underlayer that would sparkle if it weren’t so dull and entice people if it weren’t so full of holes. Holes that keep them alive and breathing, but holes nonetheless. Ones that would be worth a pretty penny (an even better reason to keep themself under wraps).

Maybe, if he was lonely enough. Or experienced some sort of change of heart. But they’d take it.

They’d cherish any sort of attention on that scale.

It’s such wishful thinking, but they can’t really help it anymore.

O-Ren has, at least, a few hours left to breathe without anyone going looking for them. Which means a few hours before they have to put half their body back on again, but it’ll be so worth it to not feel stifled, at least for the moment.

They take some extra care with the left plates of their outer chest, minding the hole that they have yet to find an opportunity to fill.

Maybe he’d like that too.

The idea could be thrilling, that they’d willingly show off a piece of their most fragile layer. There’s a pretty solid chance that he’d get curious and ask to look (or maybe even reach) inside to see their core. The worst part is that he could probably handle the heat if he did decide to reach inside.

Lay them down on their mat right here, the door locked, far enough away from the main activity that goes on in the ship that no one would know or hear.

Support their head with his hand, maybe…

Or they’d just rest in his lap like it was a pillow, cheek pressed against his stomach (for all that that would be worth). It’d even be easier for Hugo to reach inside and touch the one thing that keeps them alive. Boiling hot and soft in the middle, a core resting right where their diaphragm would be.

All their plates off, resting on the thing that makes up their bed, and O-Ren kneels beside all their pieces that they need to take the time to fix, no matter how intriguing the idea of Hugo noticing and realizing what the meaning behind that is.

Not that they’ve ever expected much.

What’s even more embarrassing is that they’d love it. They’d love everything and anything that Hugo did as long as it was him. No matter how clinical he was.

If he touched them like he meant it, like they mattered to him, or if it was purely scientific. If he spent most of his time distantly twisting and bending the quartz that made them keep shape inside. Applying pressure to their core to see what they do, to see if they’d ever pull away.

(And the answer would be no, not in a million years. Any survival instincts that may have been drilled into them since creation have gone out the window for a man who doesn’t care all that much as to whether or not they live or die. O-Ren can’t actually tell if that’s a downside or not. It should be, but it kind of isn’t.)

Maybe even if it would kill them. Or if he could try to move it around and see what that would do.

(But he’d try to be nice enough to them every step of the way, which kind of makes it hurt. He likes them enough to use them as a living shield from his ex, that has to be worth something. This all has to be worth something.)

Hugo’d be nice if O-Ren clung to him, and he’d be nice if they spent the whole session with their hands by their sides, and he’d be nice even if they asked to cover up those sucker-marks by wrapping their fingers around his throat.

Not that he’d agree, ever, but he’d be nice when letting them down.

Only because they made it this far, but it’s a good thought. A thought that sends O-Ren into a slightly safer state of mind.

A sharp rap against the engine room door has O-Ren reeling, trying to decide between staying quiet or rushing to cover themself back up and answer whoever was making their presence known.

Not that they stay, effectively making that decision for them.

If they had a heart, it would be beating out of their chest. Not that it really mattered. Getting caught now would be akin to being caught in underclothes, not that anyone would be thrilled about it, or incredibly happy about it… but a sight better than having something to be caught for.

“Imagine it, build it” at MIT

MIT class 2.679 (Electronics for Mechanical Systems II) offers a sort of alchemy that transforms students from consumers of knowledge to explorers and innovators, and equips them with a range of important new tools at their disposal, students say.

“Topics which could otherwise feel intimidating are well-scoped each week so that students come out knowing not only what a concept is, but why it’s useful and how to actually implement it,” says graduating senior Audrey Chen. “I could consistently come in with no background and come out with practical experience I could use in future projects. I’d describe the class as a series of small crash courses [each of which] answers, simply, ‘what do I need to know to do or use this thing?’”

The course takes students through the process of design, fabrication, and assembly of a printed circuit board (PCB). Ultimately, that process, which has twists and turns depending on each student’s project idea, culminates in incorporating the PCB into a device — in a sense animating that device to perform a certain function.

“The design intent of 2.679 is to empower students to ‘imagine it, build it,’” says Tonio Buonassisi, professor of mechanical engineering. “Between those two is a universe, and the purpose of this class is to aid aspiring engineers to bridge that gap.”

Senior Jessica Lam marvels at how much she learned in the course over its one short semester, attributing that flood of education to the class labs being “incredibly well-structured.”

“I’ve found that in a lot of other labs and project-based classes, they throw a lot of information at you at once with the expectation that you already have some experience with certain software or hardware, and most of it is scaffolded and feels like a black box,” without much understanding of what is actually happening, Lam says. “In 2.679, Steve Banzaert has a better understanding of what we already know and how to build on that.”

After taking 2.679, she says she feels “a lot more confident in designing electrical systems, and I have a more comprehensive understanding of how to integrate mechanical systems and electronics.”

Banzaert, technical instructor for the course, says the class is designed to guide students along their own chosen paths of discovery, showing them that they are able to address the challenges they encounter along the way.

“Every semester we get to see really lovely examples of growth, not just in the course material but, in the best cases, in students’ understanding of what they’re really capable of,” he says.

Chen, a mechanical engineering major who is graduating early to start a position as a hardware project manager at Formlabs, agrees that the class did just that.

“Students are given tremendous freedom to pick their own final projects, allowing them to explore topics which are of special interest to them. And because each project is unique, there is less pressure to ‘perform’ in a traditional sense,” she says. “Rather, each student is learning different skills and is encouraged to get as far along with the project they choose as possible. Steve emphasized that the scope of our projects would inevitably change, because at the start you simply don’t yet know what you don’t know, and that’s totally okay!”

Banzaert says, “We try to make it very clear that, yes, we are talking about important general concepts in theory and analysis, but that’s because they are tools that engineers use to solve problems. I think maybe this focus helps remind the students of what got them here in the first place — that the reason you’re an engineer is because there’s something about the world you wish was better, that you’re the person to do it (or at least help), and, if you want to do it well, you’re going to have to learn a bunch of things so you have more tools in your toolbox.”

Senior Yasin Hamed designed a car in the class that uses computer vision to follow along a black line. The car has an attached camera that captures images and relays them to a Raspberry Pi computer that is also attached to the car. Processing the images in real time allows the car to locate the black line and turn or go straight while controlling the car’s speed.

Although Hamed, who is majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in computer science, had built another similar system in a previous class, he says the focus in the prior class was on the software. With his 2.679 car project, he learned about “the underlying foundation,” meaning “the design of the power electronics and control circuitry which is necessary for everything else to work.”

“I derived much of the ‘enlightenment’ from this class from the little electronic bits and pieces of information I picked up along the course of the class, like learning/practicing soldering, understand how to use integrated circuits, learning how to design a PCB, etc.,” he says. “It was the collection of all of these things that benefited me the most.”

Jordan Parker-Ashe, also a senior, appreciated how 2.679 combined lessons about electronics with research and presentations from Buonassisi’s lab. “It’s great seeing engineering applied in research,” she says.

Although many of the skills she learned in the course were new to her, one was “an old foe,” she says, that 2.679 allowed her to befriend. Parker-Ashe, who is majoring in nuclear engineering, had used a computer vision program called OpenCV in her first Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program project as a first-year undergraduate.

“It was the hardest thing ever, and it really felt like an insurmountable obstacle then,” she says. “Now, to be using OpenCV in labs and homework effortlessly — It was a very full-circle moment.”

She says the class has opened up a whole new field to her, with Banzaert having “directly inspired” her to also take class 6.131 (Power Electronics), “which has been life-changing,” she says.

“2.679 helped me believe in myself, which inspired me to take 6.131, a notorious electrical engineering capstone, which has made me realize that my future lies as a nuclear-electrical engineering engineer, not just a nuclear engineer,” Parker-Ashe says. “I want to pursue electrical engineering in my future, and that just wasn’t on the table beforehand.

“Not to mention that it’s opened the doors to very rich landscapes for project ideas, creating explorations, art, stepping into new roles in group projects, etc,” she says. “I’m so glad that I’ve been able to find opportunities in Course 2 that helped give me hands-on, applied engineering experience.”

Carolina: Oh, my poor baby girl is just riddled with PTSD. She knows she has it. I imagine she was in therapy after her father's murder and also at some point during her career at the NYPD (probably mandated). But she does not really get the therapy she needs until sometime after her relationship with Trystan. She's well aware she has it and knows it will never fully go away - which is one of the reasons she pushes therapy off. She has a "what's the point" attitude, but mostly, she's afraid to deal with it. Being raised by her dad and uncle, both cops who pushed this sort of thing down, she adopted the same attitude. It was carry on and continue, but the problem is, if we don't take the time to heal, it will always come back to get us at the worst possible time. She will address this in the future.

Casey: My baby girl has always had a pretty severe anxiety disorder. It runs in her family, and hers was exacerbated by her mother's near-fatal illness when she was a child. She had no siblings, and she and her parents were a loving, strong family unit. The thought of losing her mom at such a young age was traumatizing. What's more, her life was totally upended. It went from the 3 of them being together all the time, to her mother being in the hospital for extended periods of time, not being herself when she was home, and her father having to work three jobs to try to keep the family afloat with the new medical bills that left them impoverished. Even as a child, she did her best to conceal this, but it seeped through. Her parents got her the help they could with the limited financial means they had. When they became more financially stable during her teen years, that's when she really delved into therapy and was placed on medication. But anxiety and bouts of depression punctuate her life (these things can be managed but never go away). The chemical attack and her near death (canon) led to a rough bout with PTSD. I also HC that she nearly dies after the birth of her and Tobias's third child, and that, oddly, helps her. After that's done, she really sees how fragile life is. She and Tobias both make big changes to live the life they want to live - a life that's best for them and their girls. Her parents, Tobias, and loved ones worried about her mental health in the aftermath of this tragedy, but in reality, she was so much better afterward.

Zoe: I think Troy says it best when he says if you're not a little traumatized in that world, there is something very wrong. Like all in WTD, Zoe has severe PTSD. She's lived with and witnessed things no one should ever have to endure. She was always aware of the losses she sustained early on as a result of the outbreak. She resented the limits on her freedom and autonomy within The Tower, not to mention the trauma she endured as a result of being in an authoritarian system (I have a whole SA backstory I'm dying to write, but I need time to do it well.) But her greatest blow came when escaping and losing her beloved sister Ana so tragically - on her 25th birthday - while Ana was acting to save her. This will haunt Zoe for the rest of her life. There is no escaping that. She does look to the brightest side that she can (in canon) - she has to find joy in whatever time she has left, but it's hard. She struggles with survivor guilt, and she feels the need to live for her sister. It's a great way to honor her, but such a huge responsibility to bear. There are no therapists in her world, but I think Zoe finds ways to cope. Eli, Troy, and her friends understand her and can help. I imagine Feather is far more knowledgeable about psychology and spirituality than we learn in canon, and I think Zoe has a bond with him that allows her to heal in many ways. I also HC that she will eventually become a mother (not necessarily by design), and that will also serve as a huge stressor, but it will also work to heal many of her past wounds. By becoming a mother, she will be able to work on healing past relationships with people who are now gone.

Carolina: She is a Latina with white skin with olive undertones. Her eyes are brown, and her natural hair color is medium brown, but she colors it frequently. Her most common color is a medium golden brown with blonde highlights, but she has had blonde, dark brown, auburn, burgundy, and black hair with purple highlights within her lifetime. She also wears wigs frequently for disguise purposes and she loves playing with her hair in this way.

Casey: Casey is white, and her skin is more similar to her Scottish side than her Italian genes. She was blonde as a child, but it darkened to a light brown. When she was in high school, she began dying it blonde and pretty much kept it that way for life. I also think she had a pink hair phase while attending NYU as an undergrad. Her eyes are blue.

Zoe: Zoe is Latina and has tan skin. Her hair is brown, but during the warmer weather months, she has a lot of natural golden highlights. She has brown eyes.
