neverafter episode 3
okay so. this is full trailer speculation and also just blind hope BUT from what we’ve seen of the trailer, only ylfa’s(?) (could be not-ylfa, someone on discord mentioned emily’s voice didn’t have the snotty affectation but i am ELECTING TO IGNORE THAT) line of ‘it’s only gotten harder to make friends now’ hasn’t been said yet. since emily was the only player to hit the charisma save AND was the only character to figure out the ‘once upon a time’ trick, ylfa might get some storybook do-over? or just be the last one standing/only one allowed a redo next episode?
also i don’t think brennan was planning on a tpk, but i also think he was prepared for it? if that makes sense? nobody’s dice liked them today (some of the wildest death saves i’ve ever seen), even with a +6(?!) to hit brennan very rarely hit with any of his constructs, and that one away from instadeath on gerard nearly stopped my poor little heart. also i think the dice really just wanted us to know it was episode three. all. those. fucking. threes. and like lou said, they all regressed back to FHFY brain as they dove in carcasses and jumped up and down hills LMAO if they had all rushed FGM while the hex was still up they had a slim chance! idk maybe this is my brain on copium that is very possible
anyway the editing was impeccable this episode (brennan into FGM both times was inspired), pinocchio’s waddling gave me so much serotonin for the brief amount of time we had it, i’m feeling some trope subversions and inversions i’m liking, and i’m incredibly hyped for next episode, where i’ll actually be able to throw my full concentration on it instead of studying in the side!
(also i WILL be drawing gerarmoire to cope. and maybe hot gerard as well idk we’ll see)

Wasteland 3 was on sale a little while back and I've been wanting to play that since I saw it existed. Most people don't know this game series existed. Those who do, know it from fallout, and probably never touched the games before. Those who know it from fallout know it from old fallout. Back when they was 2d and played like a point and click that threw the simple item puzzles into the sun and decided to dungeon master a dnd game but with guns and robots. Plus, the original game is archaic and has graphics that more resemble a board game than a video game, and the second game came out like 20 years later. I mean I'm all over ancient and archaic games, and I only have managed to ever scrape my way through half of that thing. I even used a guide. I beat zelda nes without pulling a guide out until that teleport maze in the final dungeon.
So anyway, wasteland 3 is now my favorite rpg, and I've been reevaluating a few of my projects because of it. I have a number of games that can be loosely crammed into the definitions of RPG. And I missed something crutial with my party based one: specialization. Now I missed wasteland 2, but my previous favorite rpg was fallout 1. And that game only let you directly control and stat manage one character. You could get companions, but they didn't factor into things the same way. Wasteland, having always been a game where you control a team of post nuclear idealists with government issued integrity, does not let you make a god teir character like in fallout. The third game makes you make a team. This team can and will be more effective than any single player rpg protagonist for a number of reasons, and it is very hard to fuck it up. I love the shit out of how well they get this across. Like, I could go into depth about how wasteland 3's opening bit is one of the best tutorials ever crafted. Rides a real nice balence of understanding what players might expect going into that, making them rethink their approach, and showing off just how fun and rewarding that all can be. Sort of un-hack-and-slashing the rpg system, while also making sure to be as brutal and rediculous as possible.
Funny thing is, I already kind of understood the importance of this kind of specialization when designing concepts for a real-time tactical third person shooter. Trying to lean into the mmo tank, healer, hitter trio that seems so inexcapable. Healers and tanks are tricky, if possible to do in wasteland 3 though, and that's what I think is really facinating. As far as I can tell, you can't do that without fundementally changing how these kinds of games function, but this does it pretty well, at least early on, and I'm trying to work out exactly how? Healers are somewhat negated by the fact that it's hard to play that kind of support role. Meaning every character that would be put in risky situations frequently, has to be capable of healing themselves. Tanks are less viable cause the combat relies a lot on cover and damage mitigation by default, meaning everyone again, kind of has to do all of that themselves. I think what's going on is what happens outside of combat.
Wasteland stats are funny, cause they were a fucking mess in the 80s game. You had to roll the damn characters, then tag a number of skills. And it was not clear what all of them did. And half of them might not actually do anything. Fallout used a similar system, with atributes and skills, but in a much more coherent way. The details of the SPECIAL system has been praised before, just know it used to be significantly more in depth than the nonsense in fallout 3 and onwards. Wasteland 3, and from what I can tell, 2 as well, uses a similar system, this time spelling CLASSIC cause tradition at this point. Comes complete with perks and backgrounds to further customize your rangers with little tweeks like doing more damage in exchange for getting hit for more damage, or getting more action points when you kill an enemy. The long winded point I was getting to is that the vast majority of skills are not combat skills, but exploration skills. Arguably, the only reason combat skills are seperated out so much is to keep everyone using different ammo pools. If you want a good balenced squad, you want one, maybe two combat skills per char, and the rest going into stuff like the speech and trading skills, repair and computers. Maybe some weapons experts or power armor mechanics. Cause these let you avoid fights. Or at least help getting better gear and the jump on things you have to fight.
Game isn't perfect, but it's by far one of the best designed crpg's I've ever touched, and very fun in a lot of ways. Almost makes me actually enjoy math. That's hard to do. I only math when I need to, and it takes all the energy my two brain cells can squeeze out.
And like, drawings here later maybe. I keep not drawing as much as I want to. There's a ton of cool stuff I'd like to show off, but I didn't get around to sketching the mf's out yet. Hopefully I get around to doing that and whoever's here can look at more than my badly structured ramblings.

send me an au and i’ll give you 5+ headcanons about it // @heroonlybyblood
breathes on my screen
Outside writing and video games, DnD is my lifelong love, honestly. My tiefling rogue is one of the first characters I ever got to roleplay, second only to a VtM character, so it definitely has a special place. Anything fantasy-related kind of does to some extent. And god, thinking about dropping Aiden into that kind of setting - I might have a couple thoughts.
To name a few:
HEAR ME OUT: Human rogue/artificer combo. I suppose it could be fighter/artificer, too, but I'm partial to rogues, and Aiden checks enough boxes to qualify, so I'm sticking with that. There's some flexibility that's essential for Aiden - on one hand, he could absolutely be a combat-oriented rogue. With the addition of gadgets and whatever else he makes, finds, or buys, on top of general experience and agility, he could be an absolutely lethal opponent. On the other hand, having him be a more typical, stealth-oriented rogue with heavy reliance on gadgetry could also be a possibility. Then there's the combination of both, so really, the possibilities are endless here when it comes to giving him a general "class".
ON THAT NOTE THOUGH, I had another thought:  a battle mage of sorts, though his ability with magic is…limited.  He doesn't have much as far as offensive spells go, at least not in the direct manner most would think of when they hear offensive magic.  His is specialized in that it's mainly disruptive - interfering with counterspells, shattering wards and protective barriers, causing artificer gadgetry to fail and/or backfire, and things of that nature..
He's still a blade for hire, albeit one with some semblance of a conscience, which translates to, he won't accept every job thrown his way, regardless of what the promised pay is.  On top of that, he probably plays a sort of Robin Hood-esque role - stealing from obviously rich patrons in taverns or markets to help the less fortunate (which...may end up being himself on occasion, depending on what sort of storm he has or hasn't dealt with, but overall, his heart is in the right place), on top of being a blade for hire.
He still has the trademark mask, but he's losing the hat.  Everyone, take a moment of silence for this unfortunate, verse-specific loss.
Instead of stemming from the design on his now-missing hat, "The Fox" is a nickname given to the masked individual who continuously escapes even the most skilled guards around his hometown. Their best efforts can't seem to pin this guy down - he's quick, agile, and incredibly clever. Clearly, it's a moniker he has rightfully earned.
I would also like everyone to picture Aiden trying to walk through a busy market with two little kids trying to pull him two different directions.  That is one thing that remains true across all verses; the loving, doting uncle part of him, the protective big brother part, the inconvenience them in any way and I'll fuck your shit up part of him. His methods for playing that part might change slightly to suit different verses, but the gist is the same.
Lena's death.  The cause would undoubtedly change, as obviously in a fantasy verse, there is probably not going to be a car accident.  Maybe it'd be something like, a mercenary's crossbow shot that missed its mark and hit her instead, or a blade meant only to threaten the little girl as a means to scare Aiden into doing whatever it was the wielder wanted him to do, but something went wrong, and…well, regardless of the how, it'd take that to push him into becoming more than just a thug; a halfway decent thug, sure, but still. You best believe he'll be willing to travel across the goddamn world twice, on foot, if it meant tracking the culprit down.  And hey, he might even accept additional party members, if they prove themselves useful to his cause.
I FEEL LIKE I'M MISSING SOME, but I did manage to remember these. Still don't know what happened and I am so sorry sldjfks. But, in any case, this was fun to think about, and I would absolutely love to a) iron out some concrete details instead of playing with what ifs and b) play around in a fantasy - high or low - verse a little. That kind of thing is my JAM

hey morri!
do you prefer dnd as a player or as a dm? tricky question i know :)
/rodentwrites
Hiii Harrison!!
I prefer it as a player, to be honest. I've only ever DM'd once, and it was for a oneshot. I'd love to do it again, and maybe even run a campaign someday, but I'm not nearly organized nor consistent enough to do that, at least not right now. Part of that is my ADHD, which is SO bad it's not even funny.
I love the idea of creating my own world, and writing my own story, and seeing people interact with it, but the amount of planning that has to go into a campaign, not just at the beginning, but on a weekly (if you play weekly) basis, is amazing. I am just about the least organized person you will ever meet, and I am the world's worst procrastinator. Between those two things, I don't think I could ever DM a campaign.
I'm such a funny goofy person when it comes to playing, though. All my characters have very detailed backstories and personalities, but when it comes to RP, I struggle. I know what my characters would do and say in most situations, but coming up with it on the spot is fucking HARD. Not to mention that I feel more than a little awkward doing it at some times. (Especially since I cannot do voices to save my life, and so all my characters just sound like me.)
I do absolutely adore combat, though. There's something about turn-based combat that just scratches such an itch in my brain. (Hence why I loved games like Wildermyth and Divinity: Original Sin.) I have the brain for it, since I have a really good understanding of d&d mechanics, and also a fair mind for logical strategy, at least somewhat. Actually, funny annecdote from yesterday's session: we were having combat at sea, and the rest of the party was floundering (at one point we had 4 people down), which they claim is due to their year-long curse where all water-based combat goes horribly wrong. Meanwhile, my character, Rook, was all by himself on the back of a whale with 4 enemies, and doing just fine. Was only down 5 HP for 90% of the combat. We joked the reason it was going so well for him was because he's a pirate, so sea-based combat is his natural environment. (The one downside, though, was that he never got to use sneak attack, which is like, the entire point of being a rogue.)
I'm in two campaigns currently (though one hasn't started yet, but will be in a week or two), and I'm having a blast. Even though I'm relatively new to playing d&d, it definitely is one of my special interests. (and I continue to amaze my DM's with my near-encyclopedic knowledge of the rules despite only having been playing for less than a year.)
Hopefully in the future, after these two campaigns, I'll be able to play more and try out more fun and interesting characters, be it with the same people or new ones.
What about you? What do you prefer? And why??
(Sorry this got so long, I am incapable of being to-the-point, especially when it comes to my interests.)

Hey! *Kicks open your door* tell me about your OC's on main! I want to hear about them! (If you want to)
I DO, I DO WANT TO!!!
since I'm stuck during a long bus ride you get to hear my long long rambles about my dnd ocs!! (They're the ocs i think about constantly because they're the ones i get to Play With more lol)
They're all from different campaigns I've played. I'll give you quick info and thoughts about them in chronological order (aka, which one did i create first)
Michi Haasi
- fun fact his name is literally an endearment term for a cat in spanish (something like "little critter")
- which makes sense since he's half tabaxi, aka literally a cat boy. Full anime cat boy! He's a rogue that was trained as a spy assassin from a tender age because his parents got murdered in an unjust massacre carried out by a random noble lord. Now left to care for his little sister and brother, he took on a life of crime with high risk but high reward.
- since he specialized in being part of political conflicts from the shadows, he knew it would make him enemies that would put his siblings in danger. So he left them in an orphanage and cut all possible ties with them. He cares for them deeply though and sends all the money he can to the orphanage so that his siblings may be cared for properly.
- it feels weird not to mention it even though it has never come up in the story and i doubt it ever will, but Michi is a trans boy :3
- outside of the role, there was another player in my table that kept pushing for his character (a hobbit druid girl) to have a hardcore crush on Michi and i didn't feel comfortable with that so uh now my experience rping Michi has been soured a bit. Like yes i do love him as one of my creations but if i never play as him again i will not feel too bad about it (which is good bcus the DM got too busy with his own life so uhhh i guess we'll never play again!)
Ishana Aavrih
- My sweet tiefling paladin girl ♡ the joke i had is that she's literally just a nun with a sword. She's a tall and strong looking blue tiefling woman with fiery red hair. A devout follower of Fantasy Jesus (Ilmater) and her core beliefs were that anyone can be redeemed, anyone deserves a second chance, and that her duty was to protect other's from harm.
- i wanted her to be a pacifist but uhm since that campaign was heavy on the combat she did indeed kill many people. IN HER DEFENSE i did make her ask before the killing blows if they were willing to give up their life of Evil Deeds. No one ever did lmao
- her backstory never came up but: in this setting tieflings are loathed as an "inherently evil" race so Ishana grew up in a convent of a group of tieflings which main ideology was to "repent for the sins of their race". She was an orphan there so she was raised on these beliefs which marked her ideology forever. We love catholic guilt.
And to make it more tragic, she had a best friend growing up with her too in that convent and she loved her a lot, but her friend was more rebellious and mischievous (not bcus she was evil but bcus teens are just like that!). Anyway her friend gets killed to make an example out of her after a Nebulous Incident (aka i never worked out the details here ahdjjdjd) and Ishana is left heartbroken. It does lead her to escape and later on find comfort in the teachings of Ilmater because of the ideology of "everyone deserves a second chance" (since her friend deserved a second chance!)
- anyway in the campaign we had to stop cultists from bringing the apocalypse and one of the head Priestesses named Vannifer wanted help in stopping the apocalypse (because she was basically a slave to the Evil God trying to bring the apocalypse and she wanted to be free).
Vannifer was also a tiefling with a tragic backstory so when Ishana heard her tale and plea she immediately decided she wanted to help her no matter what! It became her life duty to try and free Vannifer from her chains so that she may be happy.
The rest of my party was pretty murder happy so even they wanted to kill Vannifer on several occasions so it became a running joke that only Ishana saw Vannifer as an ally (and she was!!! Like literally she's a NPC meant to help u!!! Why would u kill her!!!!)
Alongside this, in one of the cursed temples my party freed a group of Kenkus (bird people) and one of them was a small orphan crow boy and he immediately got attached to Ishana (and i became attached as well!!!!!!!!!!!) So Ishana adopted him as her son. His name was Purulento (pretty sad name in spanish bcus it's something akin to "infected wound"). Anyway i love him so much and he's my little son boy. My little baby. My sweet little boy. He became a cleric mostly so we could deploy him if any of our players missed a session so Purulento could fill that space in combat.
At the end of the campaign, Ishana realized she wanted to give up the sword and go live with her son and Vannifer in a cabin in the woods. So yeah she basically got her happy lesbian ending and sobs im so happy. BCUS PURULENTO HAS 2 MOMS AND GETS TO GROW UP IN THE HAPPY HOME HIS 2 MOMS DIDN'T GET TO HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love her so goddamn much.
- Also her name is a valid homestuck troll name fun fact.
Eshuu Teevan
Ohhhh boy oh boy oh sweet jelly goddamn crackers HOW TO START WITH ESHUU MY DEEPLY BELOVED!!!!!! He lives rent free in my head even if i have played with him like maximum 7 sessions. Gonna try to TL;DR him bcus if not we will be here all DAY and maybe it's better if i show u the 40 powerpoint presentation i have on him later
- he's a satyr warlock! His patron is Caiphon, an old god and distant star. Akin to a lovecraft horror. Eshuu has a HORRIBLY debilitating Ego so when this elder god came to him in a dream and promised him the secrets of godhood it was all over.
- he's a scholar that loves nature, but most of all fungi! He's fascinated by the idea of Rot As An Extension of Life. In a better timeline he's some sort of druid ♡ we're not in that timeline ♡
- to understand what's wrong with him u gotta know that he lives in a world where Gods walk among them and each year the world celebrates "A Harvest" which is kinda like uhhh the hunger games but the prize is that the winners get to Ascend To The Heavens.
Eshuu being part of the Fey knows that the gods are capricious and not to be venerated. But his best friend Jakobi (an elf) is a devout believer who's purpose in life is to win the Harvest and ascend (as his people have trained him for). Knowing that his most likely fate is death, Eshuu tries to discourage Jakobi from making this his Life Goal but they fight and break up their friendship and something inside Eshuu snaps that makes him want to take over the gods and destroy them ♡ because he could do so much better ♡
- anyway Eshuu is my babygirl and i love him so goddamn much. His favorite spell is acid splash. He thinks he's owed everything. He's obsessed with one (1) guy that didn't let him have the last word. I could fix him but whatever is wrong with him is funnier ♡ He's doomed to go mad with eldritch knowledge and I'm crossing my fingers Jakobi is the one to kill him ♡
Cyril Nightclaw
- my most recent character! I love him lots! He's inside a horror campaign with vampires!!! Aaah!!!
- he's a dark elf (i forgot the term but they're the ones with Advanced Darkness) and he's sensitive to sunlight. He's a cleric of the grave! He dresses like a plague doctor!! He's a devout follower of Anubis!!! He's literally part of a pyramid scheme!!! This adventure is one of the first times he's been allowed outside of the temples!!!!! He's a hoot i love him.
- i say he's a hoot but mostly because i think he's incredibly endearing. He's stoic, genuine, and blunt. Party says he has autistic swag and i am inclined to agree. Perhaps even make canon.
- his one goal is to Maintain the Balance between life and death, which means that any time he sees an Undead Creature he wants and needs to destroy them on sight. This is made much more difficult because we have a sorcerer in our party that likes necromancy and he likes to bring walking cadavers around a lot. Such is life.
- in the campaign we are tasked with protecting this one lady named Irina bcus the Dracula controlling the region has targeted her as his Bride To Be. Cyril, being so new to the outside world, fell in love with Irina because she's the first pretty lady he's ever seen in his life. So you can see how this further motivates him to destroy The Goddamn Dracula Final Boss That Keeps Showing Up And Trying To Kill Us.
- he has a prosthetic leg because his parents tried to use him as a human sacrifice as a baby but the ritual failed (it did take his leg though). He was left abandoned in the steps of a temple of Anubis during a storm and he drowned. But Anubis revived him so that he may serve him. We love a guy that died once but got better ♡
So that's all!! Will share my powerpoints later!!! u need to see my arts for all of them too!!!!! They all have playlists too bcus i love em.

Since I don't have anyone else to ask, can a dnd character constantly change genders, like a curse or wild magic, you role below 3 with d6 and you change. And also, can you play as a paladin (or similar, paladin is just an example that fits the idea best), but you're something else in disguise, someone who actually doesn't care about justice or just doesnt believe in the ideas the outside class of them should (that's why I used paladin as an example). Would you then play more cowardly and try to not engage with skills and abilities your character should know, and work with your DM so they'd treat your actual actions and skills as a game thing? Like oh idk your group gets attacked by whatever, and you should be good with a sword but instead you disengage, and try to do your action in secret? But then how to keep it a secret and still help in combat? I know cr had Dusk, but it involved full on change of a character, so is that the only option? You have no idea how much I like character surprises and when they impact the story, uhhhrrr, I love it so much. And I love all the deity stories, so the character in the hiding would probably be a warlock. You could hide one with other magical User, but that's not fun, isn't it.
I think the idea of constantly changing genders is very cool. And since it probably does not interfere with any game mechanics, there is a very good chance a GM will allow it. I would even go further, and assign a number for every die: when you roll a d20 for a skill check, and you roll 8 or below, puff, you change. Or when you roll a d10 for damage, and you roll 4 or below, puff. I think it's gonna be hilarious!
I'm creating a Changeling character like Dusk at the moment, but Riz is gonna change constantly. To express moods or thoughts, to communicate, or just because it's fun. Sometimes, they'll change their whole body, sometimes only a few features. They have no concept of gender, or a fixed form. But they only change their appearance, not their character. It's a bit of a different concept of a Changeling character, and I can already tell it's gonna be so much fun^^
It's probably very difficult to hide your class from other players, because classes are very distinct by design. Especially when you want to disguise a spellcaster as a martial class. There are hybrid options that make it more realistic (Hexblade Warlock, War Magic Wizard), but there are good reasons why spellcasters never want to be in the front line of an attack. They cannot wear heavy armour effectively, and they have significantly less hit points than a martial class. Both of these factors mean they will probably die very fast if the enemy directly in front of them attacks them repeatedly with a weapon.
You can probably work something out with your GM, with stuff like feats that make you tougher, or able to wear heavy armour, or some way to regularly bring them back from the dead. It would need a lot of special treatment, and I don't think I'd allow it at my table unless the other players get the same amount of feats and benefits, which would make the whole party very powerful right from the start.
Maybe if we start at level 5 or higher, since it's easier to balance combat with a higher level party, but not at level 1. Also, you'll need to rename your spells as special attacks, so you can call them out and have the GM know what you mean, but not the other players. It's extra work for the GM, and I'm not sure I could handle it when I'm running the monsters, the battlefield, the NPCs, battle tactics and spell casting for the monsters and NPCs, and keeping track of damage and who's turn it is.
If you want to role play against your class though, you absolutely can. There is even an option for that with the Paladin, the Oathbreaker subclass. It's originally designed to be a villain option for the GM, but it's perfectly playable as a PC. It means you have broken your Oath, and though you still look and fight like a regular Paladin, you have lost faith in whatever you believed in before. Experienced players will probably still be able to tell after a while, because you have a few unusual spells, but it will take a lot longer.
You can be a cleric that hates their god, but follows it anyway because it gives them powers. And there are neutral, chaotic, or evil gods, too, so Clerics, Paladins and monks don't have to be good. It's a common theme with warlocks, actually, who more often than not have a love/hate relationship with their patron. One of my players looks to free himself from his contract and his patron, that's his arc. You can also choose weird combinations that go against the traditional reading of a class, like a Warforged druid, or redefine what it means to be a barbarian in space. But I don't see a good way to surprise your fellow players with a different class reveal.
It's also not something that the characters themselves talk about very often, so I don't think it would have that much of an impact as a surprise. Learning that someone you thought of as a fighter is actually a very weird spellcaster will not have the same impact on your table as learning that the person they knew and trusted has kept vital information from them, or is actually a completely different person. The emotional component is what gives the surprise that delicious oomph.

I gotchu fam.
The modern AU with Tavarti. Feel like going in depth with that?
You spoil me
Tavarti is an investigative journalist/activist/ general pain-in-the-ass. She drives a barely functional motorcycle (paladin mount lol), lives in a shitty studio apartment, and meets with her DnD group on Fridays. She wears a ratty old bomber jacket with sunflower patches, jeans, t-shirts, and a pair of old biker boots. Has been arrested multiple times. Will argue with the entire group over rp choices because she's a paladin guys come on. She joined the group as a favor to an old friend (The Narrator) who wanted to DM a special campaign she's been working on.
She shows up at DMs place for the first night where she introduces her to the rest of the group:
Gale, a local professor at a research university who recently went on sabbatical after a relationship with his department got messy. Totally has leather patches on his blazer sleeves . Lives alone with his cat in a nice apartment filled with books. Met the DM at a coffee house poetry night and is joining the DnD group because he's going through a lot rn and needs the distraction. A total rules lawyer and argues with the DM.
Lae'zel, who recently graduated from the police academy. Comes from a family of cops, her mom is the chief. Wears leather jackets with lots of spikes and scary af rings. Wants a red motorcycle. Is mean to people on the internet. Loves combat and hates the RPing. Joined the group as a personal favor to the DM who she met at a court ordered anger management seminar.
Wyll, a cut-off rich kid who is struggling to turn his life around and get away from his toxic ex. Works with kids at the community center and volunteers a lot. Likes Marvel movies. Met the DM at the community center and hit them up after they posted something about starting a new campaign on social media. He thought it'd be fun and he really needed a new social circle. Lives to RP, terrible at combat. Rolls either 1s or 20s.
Astarion got into an abusive relationship with a powerful partner at the law firm he worked at. He's finally gotten out of the situation and has been couch surfing while he looks for a new place/job. Has an OnlyFans (which he uses to pay the bills atm). Ends up crashing at Tavarti's place a lot because she has a hard time saying no (and has the easiest to break into apartment). Met the DM through "work" (onlyfans or court? Who knows) and ended up joining the DnD group because he was already sleeping on her couch at the time so why not. Plays a pain-in-the-ass, "it's what my character would do" rogue. Steals everything. Constantly handing notes to the DM.
Shadowheart does... something. No one is sure what exactly it is but they all assume it's illegal. Cute goth gf. Doesn't use social media where you can't be anonymous or self destructing like snapchat. Deletes her reddit account every few months. Uses burner phones and no one has her number. Cyberstalks the entire group. Met DM at some underground concert thing. Will heal you for +1 because that's all you deserve and then solos the rest of combat after you all wipe. She plays all the time and wanted to find a new group.

domestic + wren & adrian 🦋
Domestic life
When they move in together, who gets the most say in decorations? What do they each have to have in the house?
Wren has the most say in decorations because it’s her place that they move into. But she has a pretty minimalist style, so she doesn’t own a ton of decor items in general. Adrian ends up being the one to kind of “spruce” it up, I imagine he makes their house feel more homey, which Wren secretly likes. Wren has to have her combat pants and her fancy microscope that she uses at home. Adrian has to have his vigilante suit, of course, but he would probably say he has to have all his knickknacks too.
If they get married, who proposes, and how do they do it? Would they change their surnames? What is the wedding like? Who attends?
I really can’t imagine them getting married 😂 Wren has very little interest in marriage, but might consider it if Adrian really wanted to. It would either be at a courthouse or they’d just find a random officiant, no special planning, with the 11th street kids attending. Neither would change their surname!
How many kids do they have, if any? What are they like as parents? What are the kids like?
They don’t have any kids, they’d be chaotic parents. I think they'd be fun babysitters!
Are either of them the “breadwinner”? Who cooks? Who cleans?
Wren is the “breadwinner” since she makes more money at her job as a microbiologist. Wren can cook pretty well, but she doesn’t love to do it all the time, so Adrian attempts his recipes occasionally (and they end up ordering out). Both clean! Neither likes a messy or overly unorganized space.
Do they have any pets?
Wren already has a black cat named Lucifurr, so he becomes their shared pet after Adrian moves in. Somewhere down the line I think Adrian would want to get a dog too, and Wren would agree eventually. I haven’t thought a lot about what breed, but I think it’d be a mix they adopt from a shelter.
Who worries the most?
In general, Adrian. When it comes to Adrian's safety though…Wren would be worrying a lot.
Who kills the bugs in the house?
Adrian tries and Wren scolds him before safely transporting bugs outside. Maybe after project butterfly she’s a little more okay with it…
How do they celebrate holidays?
Decorating for Halloween and Christmas. They exchange gifts on Christmas and birthdays. Small parties with the 11th street kids (Wren might invite a couple co-workers from the lab…or her dad… eventually). Otherwise it's nothing huge!
Who is more likely to convince the other to come back to sleep in the morning?
Adrian has convinced Wren to go back to sleep in the morning more times than she’d ever admit. She’s an early riser and Adrian is not.
Who hogs the blankets or takes up more than their fair share of the bed? Who puts their cold feet on the other? Who are the big and little spoons?
Wren is the one who hogs the blanket and puts her cold feet on Adrian’s. Adrian is the one who takes up more than half of the bed. Some may think Wren is the big spoon, and while she is sometimes, it’s mostly Adrian. It brings Wren a safe comfort that she really just likes.
Who likes to dance with, or sing for, the other?
Adrian would be the one to jokingly sing something to her or pull her into a dance. The only time she'd sing is at a karaoke night after a couple drinks, but it probably wouldn't be "for" him.
Do they have any “couple traditions”, or family traditions?
Family traditions: Adrian getting Wren and the 11th Street kids into dnd so they try to do that once every couple weeks. They also do board game, bar, and karaoke nights.
Couple traditions: Watching Survivor every week. Adrian encourages date nights, including Wren joining him on his vigilante runs sometimes 👹
Who is the one who always says “I don’t know” when the other asks where they want to eat?
Oh Wren never knows where or what she wants to eat. It’s a good thing Adrian always has suggestions 😭
Who would drive, and who would give directions?
Both can drive, but if it’s somewhere that needs directions, Wren tells Adrian to drive because she isn’t confident in his ability to give directions.

This is a one shot about Steve Harrington's younger sister X Eddie. This is separate from the timeline in season 4.
"Crushing on the DnD King"
○●●○●○●●●●●●●●●●▪︎○○○○○○○●●○●▪︎●○●▪︎●○
I was standing in front of my mirror. I was just about to go to Eddie's house to watch a movie. I was looking into the mirror, staring so hard it I was like looking through myself. I heard the footsteps of my brother coming into the room. My eyes bolted to look into his as I was shocked he had come in without knocking. Usually the famous Harrington was quite respectful to his younger sister... she guessed not today.
"Woah..."
He was stunned by his sister in a red dress matched with black stockings and black combat boots.
"..Going on a date? With who?"
He seemed very serious with his question. She didn't blame her anxious brother for wanting to see who she was going out with. He did know more about the students at Hawkins High School.
"Eddie Munson. We're gonna watch a movie together.. at his house..er well trailer."
She nervously played with her scrunchie that was on her right wrist as she looked into the mirror at herself again. Her brown hair was put into two braids as to hopefully keep the fluffiness tamed. She heard her brother step closer to her and put his hand on her shoulder.
"Be careful with him.. I don't know much about him but I know he's too suspicious to be perfect."
Steve sounded quite skeptical of Eddie.
"Or.."
She retaliated in a playful tone.
"..You're just jealous of him."
She looked to him with a smirk as he rolled his eyes. He gave her a side hug.
"Just promise you won't do anything too crazy. Please Peanut."
"I promise Stevie. I'll keep out of trouble. It's not like we're gonna fuck."
Steve held her a bit tighter at that statement as he met her eyes with a serious look.
"Well I hope not for the first date. I don't want my sister to give me a nephew or niece that quick... use a condom."
"Of course."
She finally wiggled herself out of his grip and to her purse which she had some lipstick and her wallet in.
"I gotta go Stevie but I'll see you later tonight."
She made her way out of her door and down the stairs to the front door. She heard Steve call out after her.
"DONT BE OUT TOO LATE DANIELLE."
"OKAY MOM."
She called back before walking out.
●●○○●○●○●○●○●○AT EDDIES○●●○○●○○●●○
Danielle was stood outside Eddie's door gaining the courage to knock. After a minute the door opened and there was Eddie with a smile on his face.
"Hey Harrington. What a special surprise. Come on in Beautiful."
A blush came to her cheeks at the compliment as she walked into his trailer. She looked around. It was quite nice and roomie for a trailer. She hadn't been in one before so this was new to her. She smiled at Eddie as he began to show her around the trailer.
○●○●○●●A COUPLE HOURS LATER○●○○●
"..that's why you always have to wear your trusty jacket."
She gave a small chuckle as Eddie was telling me about how his jacket saved his life from bullies in middle school. We had been talking for 3 hours now and completely forgotten about our movie. She had always felt like her and Eddie were meant to be something even though they had only been talking for 5 months. He seemed to know just how to make her happy.
"So Dani.. uh.."
Eddie was nervously looking down at his hands for a second before looking back up at her. There was a loving look in his eyes.
".. Well.. Shit.. I might as well just fucking say it.."
"Eddie.. what's up?"
She questioned sweetly as she had a feeling she knew what was happening.
".. Can.. Can I kiss you..?"
He nervously pushed out of his mouth with a nervous grin. She smiled widely at him with a look of admiration.
"Yes."
They both leaned in for the kiss. Their lips connecting with a warmth neither of them had felt before. Eddie's hands were around her waist as hers were around his neck. The kiss lasted for a couple minutes. Their lips moving in sink as the feeling was mesmerizing.
She pulled away from him looking in his eyes.
"Eddie.. I think I'm falling in love."
He chuckled.
"Me too."

I looked at the mods and stuff for guns in Mass Effect 1 and said “that’s a lot of words too bad I’m not reading em” and speaking of romance wishes god I wish Garrus was bi and poly existed in the game I would’ve both Garrus and Tali romanced so hard they were my ride or dies I took them everywhere unless I physically couldn’t or needed a specific a companion for a mission. Also I must’ve been really blinded by Ashley’s comments on aliens because it seems a lot of people liked her when I wasn’t really feeling her in one guess I gotta give her more of a chance.
(Also this is thebottomseareef I’m just on my main blog because I wanted to make a dnd/bg3 side blog to use on the app so it’d be more convenient and I wasn’t constantly logging into another account but I found out that you can’t send asks from side blogs so I’m just doing it from here because it’s easier)
"Too bad I'm not reading em" PEBCOQNXKQNDJSOJQSN yet you're still here reading my long ass posts, I'm honoured.
omfg yes, Garrus and Tali literally feel perfect in a poly yk? Like I've always took them with me on missions as a pair because their banter was so cute and they were the best balanced team for my character.
It is sad looking at older games and realising how much they hold themselves back just to appease their main demographic, like the legendary edition was two years ago and it would've made so much sense to make the aliens poly or bi. But they didn't because they didn't want to upset the majority of their demographic about the sudden change or getting into "Mass effect is woke now hmp! >:v" online scandal.
Like the romance is nice and every character is so sweet on their own, but something inside me dies each time I'm reminded this is strictly hetro and monogamous. Like I'd be having a blast cute moment with Kaidan then it hits me in the face that and I feel sad that all of this could've been missed if I had picked a male shepherd.
Games are evolving tho and that makes me happy. Especially shooter games bc we all know that's where the second most taxic gamers are, first being moba and souls-like games.
I'm happy that Liara is poly but also very shy and nervous around romance, that she admits this is not something she has ever done before. I'm glad Kaidan becomes bi because fuck yeah all the male shepherd deserves their beautiful bromance with him.
With Ashley, she is special. I like strong woman characters who are more aggressive. Like she truly embodies the soldier aspect of soldier while Kaidan feels more like a close friend with time. Ashley is someone who will punch a person if they were making you uncomfortable. She is someone who will march up to the cashier and tell them you asked for no pickles. Ashley would defend you in combat while Kaidan is more of a support.
She is more brash, confrontational. Punch first think later. Very protective and sweet in her own "no bullshit" kind of way.
With Garrus. He is so romantic and such a gentleman, my heart cannot take it. Like yk for a fact he is all starry eyed around you because you are a specter and he wanted to be one before. The way he thanks you all sweetly for letting him join your crew instead of leaving him with the annoying c-sec paperworks job. He is like RE1 Leon before he became jaded.
Tali is everything. Her genuine love for knowledge, for the craft and survival of her colony. She feels like a future ruler but before she became wiser. Tali is still in her wander and wonder phase while she travels the galaxy and gives her best to everything around her. She is earnest and very honest. Which is sad when she is met with suspicion for being too eager to help and study things.
Garrus and Tali would bond so much, shepherd would be the one keeping the both of them in check from forming a mad scientist cult that rescues kittens from trees.

Catching up on DnD, The Siege of Trife Parts 1-3
A lot of self brought dread in the last 4-5 sessions, my grand plan for a "kill the monsters and save the city" scene dragged onto a roughly 20 hours of combat with little roleplay during. Handful of cool moments though which I'll try and recall.
Descriptions for later reference: Each enemy creature was an "[Animal] S.C.U.D". (a mild reference to The Minute Hour SCUDs) The idea is that each S.C.U.D was an experiment in polymorphing creatures, everything from seeing if you could morph something half way or if you could shape it into multiple creatures at once.
Ape S.C.U.Ds: Giants that have been experiments on, limbs taken from other monsters and all imbued with an element, their apelike fur shimmering like embers, or their hairs stood on end as electricity sparks off of them. Axe S.C.U.Ds: Turkey sized birds with blades attached to their heads, and an magical jet engine grafted into their body. Centaur S.C.U.Ds: Humanoids and horses twisted together to make artificial centaurs, then with carts and a catapult style weapons mounted onto them. Lizard S.C.U.Ds: Humanoids spliced with reptilian parts, using scimitars or flintlock pistols, some having a lizard head instead of a hand. Octopus S.C.U.Ds: Basically just Octoroks but would explode after attempting to grapple someone, if otherwise failing they would coat an area in tar after dying. Owl S.C.U.Ds: Harpy-esque hybrids with rifles in their talons. Nothing too special. Wasp S.C.U.Ds: People horribly stitched together, their wings and legs mismatched and a large barrels of acid they'd shoot stingers from. Gibbering S.C.U.Ds: Attempts to turns multiple creatures into a single one, leaving behind amalgamations of bodies, writhing and screaming in multiple voices.
With that out of the way, continuing the story.
The Party gets to work right away dispatching the S.C.U.Ds and rescuing the citizens of Trife, Wasps giving them mild trouble as none of the barbarians can reach them until Dave discovers his love for jumping.
Following some fleeing citizens, the Party comes across a small makeshift refuge nestled in a small park, there they meet a veteran guardsmen by the name of Garrel who lets the Party rest after watching the them cut a few Axe SCUDS in half and almost blow themselves up.
During their rest a heavily burned guardsmen starts rambling about a gorilla made of fire that incinerated his group, a tortle chef gives him some soup and tries to console him. Enter the newest Party Member, Tortilla the Cuisiner, who in his tour of the Kingdom got caught up in the conflict of the city. In behind him is his suis chef (who I don't think got a name but I'll call him Gimi), who is also doling out soup, albeit in a unorthodox way. Tortilla is distracted from the burnt guard when he realizes Gimi is sticking his hand into a large soup pot, using it as a ladle when filling everyone's soup bowl. Tortilla confronts him on this and remarks that he'd never let anyone in his kitchen do something so unhygienic, in-fact (with a Insight high roll) he realizes that Gimi isn't someone from his kitchen, and that despite Gimi doing his best to convince him that they're lifelong business partners, Tortilla's never met the fellow.
It's at this moment that Cronwer recognizes Gimi's jerky, uncertain movements as the same as Jimothy, the Stable Owner from Medina Mince, and subsequently The Raggedy Man. Cronwer greets Jimothy and exclaims that he's glad to see he didn't die in the fire there, attempting to catch the trickster in a lie. Gimi then quickly scrambles to search a nearby pile of rubble, hoisting up a burnt body up to his thigh. With one hand around the soup, and another around the body, The Raggedy Man attempts to keep both disguises going, Tortilla seemingly too distracted by the disrespect to his cooking continues to berate Gimi for how he's handling the soup. Tortilla attempts to take the pot away from Gimi, only for a mysterious third arm to wrap around the pot and hold it firm, he then threatens Gimi while Cronwer talks to Jimothy, forcing The Raggedy Man to decide which guise to keep, eventually deciding to "quit" working for Tortilla while also excusing himself from his conversation with Cronwer. The Party watches as both the suis chef and the corpse burrow into a wall of rubble, and see a stranger cloaked in red emerge on the other side sprinting away. Tortilla decides he can't work in these conditions and decides to leave the city, the Party asking him to join as they travel a lot and would like good food while they do, as well as showing off rare herbs they've found that they offer to give him.
After the upset in the camp and a short rest, everyone starts to hear a pounding and growling echoing from the southern streets, the burnt guard recognizes the sound and screams about how they're all going to burn.
Spilling out into the street, the Party accompanied by Garrel and another guardsman go to investigate, Vahlok's the first to see the Ape S.C.U.D as a bright fire reaches around a building and strikes him with a burning fist. Rostam attempts to communicate with it using Speak with Animals, since the creature before them resembles a beast more than whatever it used to. He partially succeeds, able to communicate with it just enough for the giant to decide to kill him last. As the fight continues the Ape goes for Tortilla and grabs him with both hands, the fire enveloping the Ape start to intensify as it tries to crack him like he's a coconut. Garrel quickly remembers something that the burnt guard told him and sprints to help Tortilla, barely managing to wrench open the Ape's hands as the rest of the Party attacks the beast. Angered by this the Ape lets out a huge torrent of flames from his mouth, doing minimal damage to every except Garrel, who until now thought that dying as a hero would be much less painful. Meanwhile Cronwer, doing his best to magically mend Garrel's burns, hears something disturb rubble a fair ways behind him, he quickly gets out of the middle of the street, narrowly avoiding a giant piece of stone speeding through the air as it turns the nearby guardsman into paste.
Climbing above the rubble appears a Centaur S.C.U.D, filling its catapult with debris it's collected in its cart. Fortunately it's only able to fire one more shot at Dave before he and Cronwer take it down, allowing them to refocus on the Ape, which does take much longer thanks to Vahlok tying it down with his chains, and Rostam's mace crashing into its ribs. As it dies the fire inside of it consumes its body and it turns to ash. Garrel rushes up to Cronwer thanking him profusely for saving his life, and insists that he takes a good luck token his family kept as an heirloom.
After sifting through the ash pile, the Party searches nearby for survivors and dispatches with a third group of S.C.U.Ds, effectively clearing the northern half of the city. Next they were decide to cross the canal that separated the two halves of the city.
Little funny things I remember.
Throughout the fights, little bloodsucking creatures called stirges had been only targeting Dave, and when filling up with his blood sometimes they'd be a bright blue, similar to Starlight, but no one seemed to think anything of that. However when 6 or so of these creatures had attached themselves to Dave, he decided to light and explode a small barrel of black powder, resulting in a lot of team damage.
Both Tortilla and Cronwer rolled high enough Insight to realize that Gimi and Timothy weren't who they said were, but Tortilla's player decided he'd be more upset about Gimi's treatment of food than his lies, and Cronwer's player was curious what the Raggedy Man would do if put under pressure. The entirely of Tortilla's introduction was probably my favourite bit of roleplaying we've done this entire campaign.
When Garrel was hit by the Ape S.C.U.Ds flame breathe, it did 55 of his 56 HP, leading me to describe his condition as being "legally distinct from a corpse". The token he gives Cronwer is a single-use item that prevents fall damage, leading Cronwer's player to comment that he hopes Garrel stays away from any ledges he sees.

The RotBTD+ Gang Plays DnD! (Feat. my ships, sorry not sorry XD)
So highkey I’ve actually been wanting to do a “The Gang Plays DnD” type post for AGES now, but then I saw @hobie-brown and @ohlooksheswriting-wips do DnD AU posts for RotBTD, and then I was like “Ah shit, I really should finish mine, eh?” So thank you to both of you for inspiring me to get off my ass and actually write the post!!!
Hiccup DMs. He comes up with this super complex plot revolving around dragons (because of course) where the party has to dismantle this society ruled by evil knights who want to genocide all of the dragons. Imagine his chagrin when the party wants to do nothing but fuck around in towns and aggravate NPCs 90% of the time.
They usually end up playing at Jack’s apartment, mainly because Hiccup’s dad doesn’t really want a bunch of loud nerds yelling about 20-sided dice in his household while he’s trying to work, if he can at all help it. Jack’s sister regularly barges into their living room and roasts the fuck out of Jack and his friends for being such damn nerds and eats all of their DnD snacks they’ve set out. If they’re in the middle of a combat session, she always gleefully proclaims that they’re all going to die. While Jack is annoyed by this, the rest of the party finds it deeply hilarious.
Jack Overland plays the absolute mayhem warlock Jack Frost, who got his powers through making a deal with the archfey Prince of Frost and has absolutely no qualms about being an evil god’s mortal Sower of Chaos. He spends the vast majority of the campaign doing such useful things as creating ice slicks under annoying NPCs and freezing people’s drinks. He also plays a Tiefling because absolutely no one can talk this boy out of playing the creepy demon race.
Rapunzel plays a woodland nymph druid who is also the party healer (because of course she is). Her name is probably Sunlily or something else suitably hippie-esque. Whenever there’s downtime (or whenever the rest of the party is also dicking around, and she can get away with it), Rapunzel likes to go into the nearest forest and pick the best berries and nuts for the rest of the party. She also loves baking fruit pies and cooking the best nymph food for her companions when given the chance. Definitely the party Cinnamon Roll (every party has one!). She often will turn into cute animals to distract the guards while the party infiltrates a building.
Merida’s character is the party archer and general ranged weapon master, as well as a raging lesbian. Hiccup learns very quickly that any male NPC who tries to flirt with her will very quickly get impaled with an arrow. She can’t ever decide if she wants to be a ranger or a rogue, so she multiclasses in both for flare. She also plays a Tiefling, and continually insists that her character is both scarier and sexier than Jack’s. In combat, she either Leeroy Jenkins her way in with a sword and just starts slashing every which way, or just shoots 90% of the enemies with arrows before the fight even starts. There’s really no in between. She can get away with this because she’s highkey one of the party tanks, and consistently deals a shitton of damage.
Anna plays a human bard, basically having read over the class options and going “Wait, in this one I get to make stylish medieval music??? And wear dramatic and garish outfits and a dumb hat??? And cast wacky illusion spells??? And do silly little magic tricks??? And INSPIRE EVERYONE??? Hell yeah, I’m in!!!” She mostly uses magic attacks in combat (definitely favors Tasha’s Hideous Laughter), but occasionally when she’s out of spell slots she’ll just take to slamming enemies in the face with her lute. She also has WAY too much fun with Vicious Mockery, let’s be real.
Elsa, upon hearing Jack’s character concept, rolls her eyes so far up in her head she can see her damn brain, and vows to play his concept, but serious–solely out of spite. She rolls up a super OP elf Chaos Sorcerer, filled with lots of brooding angst about how uncontrollable her winter powers can get if she isn’t careful. She combines it a bit with Storm Sorcerer so she can create literal blizzards, and Hiccup ends up allowing it just because he thinks it’s cool. Although Elsa’s character is undoubtedly aggravated by the rest of the party’s antics, she starts becoming grudgingly protective of these idiots and can deal some pretty crazy damage when her companions are threatened. She also contains one of the party’s only brain cells.
Eugene of course plays dashing rogue master thief Flynn Rider. Although his high deception and lockpicking skills certainly come in handy, he’s the most chaotic neutral fucker you’ve ever met and will take any excuse to rob NPCs blind or cheat them out of every cent they have in a tavern card game. It’s nigh impossible to get him to cooperate with the rest of the party much of the time, and often Elsa’s character has to either bribe him with some of her family’s gold or threaten to freeze him to stop him backstabbing one or more party members. Eugene’s character forces Hiccup to add in many more heist plotlines than he originally intended. This delights Eugene immensely, and sometimes he goes a bit crazy planning elaborate heists.
Moana plays a sorcerer water genasi. She can control any body of water, but she has a special affinity for controlling saltwater (i.e. the ocean lol). She also requests an animal handling bonus, but only with marine animals, solely because she thought it would be funny. She’s also an ex-pirate who robbed a lot of wealthy merchant ships and freed their slaves back in the day, which Merida thinks is incredibly badass. Moana tends to get bored and unengaged when there are no bodies of water to play around with, so Hiccup ends up having to add a lot more lakes, rivers, and oceans to the campaign than he originally planned on. Moana also takes a sailing skill, and thus the party often ends up traveling by boat. Typically Eugene and Rapunzel will infiltrate and hijack it, and Moana will sail it. Moana probably contains the party’s only other brain cell.
Astrid plays a gigantic berserker orc barbarian who is never without his trusty axe. Astrid is hands down the party’s top tank, and unquestionably deals the most damage every combat session. Much like Merida’s character, Astrid’s character is absolutely a shameless power fantasy. Hiccup pretty easily picks up on this, but is too polite to say anything about it. Jack also picks up on this, but is hardly as courteous as their DM, and teases Astrid mercilessly. Astrid is not amused.
Rapunzel requests that her weapon of choice be a frying pan, her justification being that her character found a discarded one at the edge of a human village outside her woods and mistaked it for a highly-dangerous human weapon. Hiccup is like “…you know what? Fuck it” and rolls up stats for a goddamn frying pan. Jack has nigh-endless admiration for Rapunzel for choosing such a goddamn memey, absurd, yet oddly effective weapon and it definitely makes the poor boy even more smitten with her than he already is.
Eugene and Merida have a bet going on who can sleep with more sexy barmaids. Merida is currently winning, much to Eugene’s chagrin. She’s not even inherently better at seducing NPCs, she and Eugene have the same charisma stat–she just consistently rolls better than Eugene. Eugene is incredibly salty about this.
Anna and Elsa want to be sisters in-game as well, but neither want to change their race–so Anna decides her character was adopted. Hiccup and the rest of the party go along with it, mainly because there’s something deeply hilarious about a regular human bard being adopted and raised by a family of high-powered elf ice mages.
Astrid is absolutely the sort of player who tends to get bored and restless outside of fights, and tends to fidget and twiddle her thumbs waiting for the next combat session. Jack picks up on this, and purposely does more roleplay for longer just to piss her off. He’s also just a very dramatic fucker and highkey loves roleplay.
When she’s not causing mayhem around the town or sleeping with hot women, Merida tries to entertain Astrid between combat sessions by offering to spar with her. Unfortunately, this does not usually end well for poor Merida, as even the most hardcore and badass of tieflings is prone to getting dumpstered by an 8-foot-tall barbarian orc with an axe. Astrid is, nonetheless, grateful to have someone to fight.
Rapunzel, Elsa, and Moana will humor Hiccup and attempt to actually play the main plot. Meanwhile, Jack, Merida, and Eugene are a DM’s worst nightmare. They constantly derail the damn campaign to fuck around, cause mayhem, and do inane shenanigans in every. Damn. Town. They go to. Anna is kind of a wildcard–she’ll typically go with whatever group looks like they’re going to be doing something more interesting. Astrid will go along with whichever group is more likely to get into a fight–which, often as not, is Jack and his posse of terrible Chaotic Neutrals (who have definitely pissed off a number of NPCs into attacking them).
As the campaign goes on, Elsa and Eugene become the beleaguered Party Mom and Dad. Both are quite aggravated by this–especially poor Eugene, who just wanted to play a morally-gray charming rogue who stole everything and got away with it and then accidentally ended up caring about these idiots he got stuck with.
Anna initially joins the campaign because she has a planet-size crush on Hiccup, and inevitably is the one who dragged Elsa into it too. Being the hopeless romantic that she is, Anna writes a love interest into her backstory. Hiccup eventually has the party run into said love interest, and Anna is overjoyed. He starts flirting with her as the love interest, and it’s easily the best 30 minutes of Anna’s life.
Moana and Elsa also give Hiccup pretty detailed backstories, and he works in little subplots for them. Moana gets to bring water back to a dying part of the jungle in the middle of a draught, while Elsa gets to go on a whole sidequest to explore her family history and how they came to be sorcerers.
Jack, Merida, and Eugene also give Hiccup fairly elaborate backstories, but Jack’s and Merida’s are like 99% memes and Dumb Shit. Hiccup tries to give all of them backstory-related plot hooks, but inevitably any hooks he provides are either stabbed, robbed, or frozen. Honestly any plot hook offered to these 3 will be all but spat in the face of and tossed off a cliff.
The one relevant part of Eugene’s backstory is that he and Rapunzel decide they used to be partners in crime before the campaign started. Rapunzel would infiltrate and scout out places he wanted to rob as small, unobtrusive animals (her preferred Wild Shape is a chameleon) and later distract the guards as a bunny or kitten while he went in and took every gold coin in sight. In return, Flynn Rider would bribe builders to not develop into Sunlily’s forest. Rapunzel and Eugene partly came up with this For Funsies, but also it was Rapunzel’s sneaky way of tricking Eugene into having prior connections in the party so he’d be less likely to betray them. It works pretty well–although the entire party is protective of Cinnamon Roll Sunlily, Flynn is certainly especially protective of her.
Astrid does the absolute bare minimum as far as backstories go. She is literally just here to smash stuff, slice people, and beat some fuckers up.
Rapunzel has a backstory, but she’s typically so invested in the main plot and the other party members that Hiccup rarely needs to bring it in to keep her engaged. She’s highkey the party emotional rock, and probably the only one keeping them all together.
On that note, Rapunzel’s character is the ONLY one who can get Jack’s character to take the plot even REMOTELY seriously. Like he’ll be dicking around in the nearest tavern challenging the nearest orc to a drinking game, and Rapunzel will come in and ask him to help them on a Main Plot Quest. And he’ll be like “come onnnnn I’m having funnn” and she’ll be like “Jack pleeeeeease?” and you just. Can’t resist Sunlily’s puppy dog eyes. At all. Also, whenever Sunlily is genuinely threatened, any silliness immediately goes out the window and Jack Frost is OUT FOR BLOOD.
For better or for worse, Rapunzel is not immune to being looped into Jack’s shenanigans. Occasionally if either Merida or Eugene have a particularly hare-brained scheme she’ll go along with it, but by and large Jack is the most successful in convincing her to temporarily abandon the plot and cause mild mischief with him. They once wasted half a session creating an elaborate “ice theme park” for some squirrels in the forest.
Hiccup tries to get Merida to play the main plot by eventually having there be no more sexy female NPCs to seduce in the towns they go to. Unfortunately, this backfires–Merida just hooks up with Moana’s character instead. When asked to roll for how good the lay is, Merida gets a nat 20–and thus her character and Moana’s character end up hooking up regularly throughout the rest of the campaign.
Hiccup introduces a few Wise Old Mentor-type NPCs to guide the party throughout the campaign. While Rapunzel, Elsa, Moana, and Anna actually try to listen to them and take their advice, Merida, Jack, and Eugene absolutely refuse to take them seriously and mercilessly play pranks on them.
At one point, Hiccup gives the party the option to attempt to tame a group of wild dragons and use them as mounts. They all have to make animal handling checks. Anna, Rapunzel, Elsa, and Moana pass. The rest of the party fails, with Jack and Eugene crit-failing. Hilarity ensues.
Hiccup ends up bringing back Anna’s backstory love interest as an NPC regular. Anna thinks he’s just being a good friend and a good DM and trying to incorporate her backstory as much as he can, but really, he just wants an excuse to regularly flirt with her. He hardly has the balls to out-of-game.
Merida comes out as gay toward the end of the campaign. Everyone in the group is extremely supportive, of course, but everyone is also like “Merida…with the amount of barmaids you’ve banged…and the amount of times you and Moana’s character hooked up…this isn’t exactly surprising.”
Hiccup actually finds a way to use Jack and Elsa’s same-concept-opposite-execution characters to the plot’s advantage. He decides one of the main villains will have a prophecy saying he’ll be taken down by a powerful ice mage. The party manages to fool this guy into thinking this ice mage is Jack, and sends Jack to fight him. As soon as the villain sees Jack, he’s like “WHAT??? THIS clown???” (word has absolutely spread throughout the land of Jack not using his ice powers for anything besides mildly annoying trolling). Naturally, the bad guy lets his guard down after thinking he’s going to fight this literal joke, and then Elsa crashes in from the side and absolutely dumpsters him.
Jack tries to defeat the final boss by just annoying him so much that he leaves. Unfortunately, he just annoys him so much that he attacks Rapunzel’s character. Jack’s just like “oh HELL no” and attacks with absolutely nothing held back. Turns out he’s pretty terrifying when he’s not using his magic for Dumb Antics.
During the final boss of the campaign, the Big Bad tries to one-shot Moana’s character, and Merida’s character super theatrically jumps in front of her to take the blow instead. Rapunzel just barely manages to heal Merida’s character, but it’s a really close call. During all this, Merida is like “ah shit...maybe I’m NOT just in this to get fantasy-laid.” After the fight’s over, her and Moana’s characters have a big dramatic love confession and share a Big Damn Kiss in front of everyone. It’s pretty epic.
After the final session of the campaign, Merida drags Moana outside Jack’s apartment and sputters and trips over her words for a solid minute before she finally gets out that through all this nonsense...well...maybe it’s not just in the game that she thinks Moana is hot. Moana just gets this HUGE grin on her face and says “c’mere, Leeroy Jenkins” and just pulls Merida in and kisses her. Cue the rest of the party barging in on them. Merida and Moana freeze, and there’s a moment of terrified silence...and then the entire party starts cheering them on like “took you long enough!”
The entire rest of the party could detect the sexual tension. Literally all of them.
But Eugene is like “HA, THIS MEANS IF WE DO A SEQUEL CAMPAIGN I’M WINNING THAT BET! BECAUSE YOU’RE GONNA BE DATING MO’S CHAR AND THUS NOT ABLE TO SLEEP WITH ANY MORE BARMAIDS!”
By the epilogue session, Jack and Rapunzel are dating. Merida and Moana are also dating. Hiccup and Anna STILL haven’t figured out why they’re so prone to spending half the session flirting when Anna’s love interest shows up, and Hiccup STILL hasn’t figured out why he likes to have Anna’s love interest show up so often. Bless their souls. Maybe they’ll figure it out next campaign...?
Damn I actually really like this...maybe if people like it I’ll do some incorrect quotes or a drabble or something??? Or maybe some HCs from next campaign???

Hi Jess! Any advice for someone considering getting in to DMing?
Hi love!
There are some really great subreddits for that- https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/, https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDBehindTheScreen/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/DMAcademy/ are all fun.
(note- that I haven’t used DM Academy as much as the others, so I’m not certain about the content on there. Also, it’s Reddit, so some people will be shitty as ever lol)
There are three core DnD manuals (as you probably know)- the Player’s Handbook, the DM Guide and the Monster Manual. The PHB is your new God, and you will worship it as such. The Monster Manual is fun and super helpful. I honestly don’t find the DM Guide that helpful, and I haven’t used it all that much personally. You can find most stuff in them online, and I recommend doing that for all of them (except maybe the PHB if you’re playing in person- having at least one physical copy is super helpful).
I’d recommend running a premade campaign first (not that I ever have because I have Brain Worms). There are loads of them, both official and non-official, and you can tweak any bits you don’t like.
As the DM, you get to set your own house rules. For example, technically nat 1s and nat 20s do nothing special outside of combat; in reality, many players love the excitement and risk that comes with rolling a 1 or 20, so I tend to treat them as special moments. The most important thing is consistency.
Inspiration is also a super fun mechanic to use! Basically, if you think a player did something really good, they get inspiration, which is a single advantage roll they can use at any time. By rewarding players with inspiration, you can shape the type of play you see and reward excellent roleplay/ problem solving. Alternatively, give it to whoever brings the best snacks. Who cares? You’re the boss now.
Check the comfort level and expectation of your players before starting. In addition to triggers etc, I also like to check the level of difficulty my players are expecting/ wanting. Some people like knowing that a flubbed roll will lead to a TPK; others view that as anti-fun, as it means they can’t play the way they want to. I often operate under the premise that I won’t kill their character unless they’re actively trying to die- like, if they walk directly into a dragon’s mouth, it’s game over, champ.
Keep an eye on quieter players and make sure they’re being given a chance to shine. Some players are a lot more extroverted than others, and whilst that can be great, it can occasionally dominate spaces. Make sure you take the time say “And X, what is your character doing during this?”.
DnD has a huge number of nitty-gritty mechanics that many people- myself fully included- ignore. The whole VSM component to spellcasting is often overlooked, as is daily food/water needs, as is tracking ammo/ arrows, as are strict rules on income and currency. Again, you get to pick how seriously you take things. I tend to go off like ‘I assume you have the relevant reagent unless it’s like, a diamond worth 100G’, but it’s really up to you.
Again, the most important thing is to have fun. If a player wants to do something that the rules technically don’t allow, you are well within your rights to let them. One of my players once stuffed his clothes full of gunpowder, ran at an enemy and had the wizard set him on fire in a suicide mission. Should I have let him do that? Probably not! Did I let him do it? Yes! It was sick as fuck! We still talk about it years later! It is better to have fun than to be Right.
Try not to get caught up in being ‘perfect’. You aren’t Matt Mercer, and that’s okay. There will be people on the internet who have been playing DnD for decades and have VERY STRONG OPINIONS on everything. Ignore them. The point of DnD is to have fun- nothing more and nothing less.
I didn’t know I had that many opinions on DnD! Now I want to DM again, haha. Thank you for giving me a chance to remember why I love this game <3
