I wanna talk about Star Wars comics and how fucking funny they are??? And how with the power of hindsight, they can make Luke and Leia so obviously twins??? (The finish each others sentences!! They both think about stealing an Imperial fucking Star Destroyer at the exact same time!! Luke says “Han is gonna hate this idea” and Leia replies “All the more reason to do it” !! They are TWINS babey!!)
Darth Vader knowing Luke is his son before Empire Strikes Back is the best move ever. Like, you can read Empire Strikes Back as him knowing (he calls Luke “Skywalker” on Hoth, after all) but making it obvious? Chef’s kiss. Darth Vader sending multiple bounty hunters and Stormtroopers and Aphra all after Luke, but specifically requesting him alive? Every single person who confronts Luke being like “Why the FUCK does Vader want you alive?? Has he even met you??? I met you five seconds ago and I want you dead, Vader is so powerful????” Vader purposefully ruining other Imperial plans to catch Luke because he’s the only Imperial who gets to have Luke? Him calling him exclusively “my son” in his inner dialogue? Him being like “The world and the galaxy and the Empire and everyone I know could literally die right in front of me in a fiery death but that is secondary, can I have my boy or what?”
(Luke over there like “Hmm. For some reason, I feel like I should meet Vader.”
Leia: “Ignore it.”
Luke: “Yeah, okay.”
Vader: “…hello darkness my old friend-“)
I love Sana but I specifically love her relationship with Luke. If you were to tell someone that a smuggler and a princess were friends, you’d be describing Sana and Luke’s relationship instead of Han and Leia’s. What do I mean i’m so glad you asked-
Luke, very excited: “I got to drive the Falcon :D”
Sana, very tired because this is right after the prison break arc and Luke was unconscious and threatened with death five seconds ago: “This child is too young to speak to me.”
Luke: “What do you mean about Han and Leia?”
Sana: “I’ll tell you when you’re older.”
Like!!! Sana!!! Leia is the SAME age as him!!! But no, Luke is the babie one, it matters little that he blew up the Death Star, he is the sheltered princess of the relationship while Sana is the world-weary smuggler who feels dirty just standing next to him. Their dynamic is fucking gold and I will not hear a single thing against it.
Okay but can we talk about Vader Down? The story arc in which Aphra says “Skywalker is on Vrogas Vas” and Vader comes out of hyperspace in the exact area the x-wings are doing drills? The story where Luke is like “hm, how best to deal with Darth Vader… I think I’ll crash my ship directly into his, sending us both plummeting to what might be our deaths, that might work.” (Vader: “Finally, a pilot who is worth facing off against wait a second that feels like-“) The story where Leia is like “Everyone around me is dead except for me, but Vader obviously left me alive in hopes I’d lead him back to the base, but I’m going to do the opposite, actually, and I’m going to stand here and wait for him and then tell the Rebels to blow us both up. Yes, I’ll die, but so will Vader, and that’s worth it.” (Vader is not actually thinking she’ll lead him to the rebel base. He (correctly) assumes that either Leia will find Luke or Luke will come to Leia) Dr. Aphra come over to try and help capture Luke because her options are 1. Capture Skywalker boy and bring him to Vader and Vader maybe won’t torture her to death, or B. Vader definitely tortures her to death.
The actual reason I love Vader Down is actually a combo of two reasons. First and foremost, Luke gets captured or knocked out or otherwise incapacitated (or just passed from one group’s hands to another) like ten times. It’s a running trend in the comcis, actually, Luke’s slipperiness that resembles how impossible it is to catch him in the Thrawn trilogy (Luke should be impossible to capture, it’s really what he deserves). The second reason is because Darth Vader finally commits murder of the person I want to see him murder, “General Grievous 2.0, this time he’s a cephalopod.” Or, Karbin for short. The way he gets him?
1. Big rock bridge
2. Vader pushed Karbin back a bit with the Force
3. Vader walks off of the bridge
4. Aphra rams into the bridge with her ship
5. Murder
It’s a foolproof plan and really, just, very well executed, 10/10 all around, I can’t get over Vader casually just walking off of the bridge
(The comic ends with Luke being like: “I feel like there was something I was supposed to learn in that big ol’ Jedi temple down on Vrogas Vas. Like the Force or something wanted me to know something. Or learn something. Hmm. Guess I’ll never know what it was. ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯ “
Vader: “…all around me are familiar faces-“)
Luke and Darth Vader and Vader being like “pleASE just GIVE ME my BOY” and the Force going “haha nope” while Luke accidentally gets lost on his way to literally everywhere is so good. Luke and Obi-Wan, who left Luke his journal that Luke pulls out every once in a while to read is also, I must say, just wonderful.
Obi-Wan is the oldest 40yo ever, give him and his joints a break please and just let him pat the small child’s head once or twice, Owen, please, it might keep him sane, it’s for the good of the galaxy-
No what I actually like are the rock people. The Force rock people. The glowing blue Force rock giant people who were worn down by tiny humans until they became mountain ranges and who Yoda revives. The tiny blue rock baby children who Luke meets for the literal first time in his entire life and is immediately like “I would literally doe to protect these babies. Get behind me children, I am very willing to be stabbed multiple times if it means that baby rock people remain unharmed.”
Luke gets stabbed like eight times, honestly, are the baby rock people worth it? Yes. They are. Thank you for asking-
But, this is all 2015 run stuff, and that’s a bit hnfair since I also love the earlier comics! I promise, I really do!
2004 run had Skippy the Jedi droid, which automatically makes it the best comic ever written, even if Luke does look like he has a haybale on his head. And it had Qui-Gon “I do what the Force tells me to do. Why did it tell me to do this? I don’t know, I did it because it asked and now it’s done. Bang up job, Obi-Wan, let’s go home” Jinn. Space Jesus Darth Vader, anyone? Strangely sexualized female characters? Fucking skirt slits up to everyone’s waist, because the artists have never tried to wear a skirt before? It even has Mara Jade! Truly, this comic has everything.
1977 comic run? Well. I have one thing to prove that this is worth your time. The comic isn’t great, the art is very strange, none of the characters look like their actors (it’s pretty cool that He-Man got his acting start playing Luke Skywalker-), and everything is a little bit off. Not to mention Leia’s strangely prominent breasts. Why are they like that? I’m confused.
Why should you read it?

Finished the Thrawn: Alliances book while on the train and I have some notes.
Thrawn got hotter
Vader and Thrawn’s dynamic goes like this most of the time:
Vader: “I am the emperor’s right hand. Yield to me. Tell me what you know.”
Thrawn: *trying to figure out how to say “Idgaf, no, and later” in a professionally passive, autistic manner*
Fuck you, Anakin
The entire Navy sucks except the Chimaera. Literally the only place where you can ask a question and not get shot or make a suggestion and still get credit.
I miss Eli :(
I like watching all of the puzzles fit into place :)
It’s interesting to see that Thrawn used Ahsoka’s battle tactics
Poor skywalker chiss children :(
Love Faro
Kimmund kinda hot *talks shit about the chiss children* nvm fuck you
Poor Padme having to deal with Anakin’s exemplary skills of being irrational
Thrawn is so fucking sweet I love him so much let him have both

A review of Truce at Bakura
(Originally posted to my RL Goodreads account a few years ago.)
Unevenly written, but super fun. This book picks up 24 hours after Return of the Jedi ends, and it’s billed as the book that wraps up the loose threads from ROTJ. I would say it only 50% delivers on that. It does do a good job of portraying Imperial/Rebel relations now that the Emperor is dead and the two sides have to work together to defend Bakura (an Imperial world) from whoever the aliens are who are invading from outside the galaxy (the Ssiruuk?). There’s a great scene in particular where the Imperial governor of Bakura doesn’t believe the Emperor is dead at first, but when Leia tells him Vader killed the Emperor, the governor is like, “Oh never mind, I take it back—that jerk? I TOTALLY believe he killed the Emperor.”
But the book only does a mediocre job of wrapping up the emotional threads after ROTJ, which is what I was really looking forward to. Luke is struggling with the health effects of the Emperor’s Force lightning, which is interesting, but apparently he’s 100% over the emotional trauma of what happened on the 2nd Death Star. Han has zero thoughts on the revelation that Luke and Leia are siblings (one day was apparently all it took for that truth bomb to sink in). I will give Tyers credit that Leia does struggle a lot with the revelation that Darth Vader is her father, and there’s even a scene where she meets Anakin’s Force ghost, BUT unfortunately Tyers just isn’t great at writing emotions/interiority, and so all of Leia’s angsting over this just comes off as predictable and lacking in true depth.
With that said, the story is still a fun romp that feels reminiscent of Star Trek: The Original Series, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Things that I liked, in no particular order:
- Leia is a total boss in this story. It’s clear she’s been coaching Luke and Han on diplomatic protocol now that they’re trying to form an alliance with the Bakuran Imperials—and in one scene it’s even clear that she told the guys to let her do the talking because they don’t know what they’re doing. LOL. This was a relief after The Thrawn Trilogy, where she gets talked over by other characters a lot.
- Luke gets promoted to fleet commander in this book and he kind of sucks at first. He gets better at being a leader as the book goes on, but in the first battle, he ends up leaning heavily on his flagship captain, Tessa Manchisco. Tessa is pretty amused by his inexperience, but is chill enough that she doesn’t rub it in, while Luke recognizes that she’s more competent than him, and is fine with following her lead. I loved their dynamic.
- Han at one point tries to romance Leia aboard the Falcon and asks Chewie to set up a romantic nook on the ship for a date. Chewie instead just puts together a bed where Han and Leia can get it on. Hahaha, at least Leia takes it in stride.
- At the end of the book, Luke pulls rank so that he can fly a TIE fighter, which he’s apparently always wanted to try—it’s one of the most gleefully in-character moments he has in the book.
- The Imperial characters are pretty nuanced. Gaeriel (Luke’s love interest) in particular is super ordinary—which is refreshing in the Star Wars universe. She supports the Empire in the way that most real people support the countries we live in—because we’re stuck here, so even when our home countries do bad things, it’s instinctual to try to move past it and look for the good.
- At one point, Luke Force heals this senile old lady who Gaeriel is taking care of and who Luke suspects got her mind kriffed up by the Empire. At the end of the book, this old lady turns out to be a complete badass who helps save the day with Gaeriel as her side kick. I just loved seeing an old person use their wisdom and experience to kick ass for once, instead of it always being the youngsters!
Things to file under “so bad it’s good”:
- At one point, Luke is despairing over his love life, so he calls to the Force ghosts—all three of them; Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin!—because he basically wants dating advice from them. Man, that’s some Anakin-in-the-prequels level of romance fail right there. I guess it’s genetic?
- To be fair, this scene leads to a genuinely moving one where the Force ghosts don’t show up (wisely), but Leia does, and she and Luke have a touching moment of sibling bonding. What I particularly loved is that Leia doesn’t make fun of Luke’s crush on Gaeriel, but is actually relieved because he’s acting like a human being again instead of being super detached like he was in much of ROTJ. This is really the one nod we get to the emotional trauma Luke went through after Empire Strikes Back, and it’s a good one.
Things that were just plain bad:
- Luke keeps mind tricking people left and right in this book, oftentimes for frivolous reasons, and Tyers seems to have no awareness of the ethical implications of this.
- Han gets weirdly jealous in the middle of the book of both Luke’s (totally innocent) interactions with Leia and also this one random Alderaanian officer who kisses Leia’s hand. It makes no sense and it’s like Tyers is trying to just check off the “romantic tension” box.
- In the final battle, Tessa dies—and in fact, Luke’s entire flagship gets vaporized—but neither Luke nor any of the other characters spare a second thought for these deaths. I blame this on bad writing, not on the characters themselves, but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth regardless.

“For a long moment, they stood together in silence. Vader thought about his secret... about Thrawn's loyalty... about the Emperor's continued need for him. Perhaps the entire Empire's need for him... "Anakin Skywalker is dead," he said.
Thrawn lowered his head. "I know."
Vader nodded slowly. *I know.* Not *So I have heard.* Not *So I was informed.* But *I know.* "We will not speak of him again," he said. "*You* will not speak of him again."
"I understand, my lord," Thrawn said. "But I will always honor his legacy.” ― Timothy Zahn, Thrawn: Alliances
Tumblr media
"Anakin Skywalker is dead," he said.
Thrawn lowered his head. "I know."
I have been thinking about this moment in the novel since Thrawn is going to appear in the new Ahsoka series and I just love this new dynamic Tymothy Zahn wrote with Vader and Thrawn in the new canon.
I always liked Thrawn since I read his first appareance in the novels, I believe he´s the best character created in legends, followed by Mara Jade, because he singlehandely managed to give dignity to imperial admirals, he represented the competent/brilliant side of the Empire that had the rebels running from them all over the galaxy, who thought by themselves and weren´t blindly loyal to the Emperor, he didn´t need to have force powers to be a fearsome opponent but his relationship with Vader on legends was distant, proffesional and very competitive so there wans´t much to talk about it from there, besides Thrawn use of the Nogri, a new species profoundly loyal to Vader because he helped their planet.
But the new canon added this delicate circunstance, Thrawn KNEW Anakin before he became Vader, they were allies for a short time but he still managed to get a sense of who Anakin was as a person, enough to miss him when he came back to the Empire and swore loyalty to the Emperor in exchange of support for his people.
Thrawn is bassically a Sherlock Holmes/Moriarty verision of an imperial admiral, he´s clever but also cold without being cruel unnecesarily, so there´s something so touching in the fact that he actually misses who Anakin used to be, to the point of going out of his way to try to get Vader to react to his old name, there´s nothing in there for him besides sympathy, it probably would be better for him to get Vader out of the way to develop his plans for the Empire, he in fact addmited to Vader he had three different plans to kill him, yet he felt the need to mention Anakin to Vader in repeated occasions, so when Vader officially told him to stop, he "lowers his head" as if mourning that´s too much emotion for someone like him who wasn´t close to Anakin yet knew him as respected his habilities, so this drives home how much was lost when Anakin fell to the darkside, not just for the Jedi/the Republic/his family/Galaxy but also for the Empire as well.
He just isn´t the person he used to be, even a virtual stranger without the force like Thrawn noticed it and yet he tried to get a reaction out of Vader if only because he thought Anakin´s legacy deserved that much.
This new take on their relationship is so much closer and honest, I just hope filoni takes some clues from there because it´s an interesting new take for them.

The important thing to understand about Thrawn: Alliances is that the Chiss use force-sensitive girls as navigators for important sci-fi reasons. These navigators are called sky-walkers, because of course they are.
So when Thrawn first meets General Anakin Skywalker in Alliances, our favorite Chiss is preconditioned to treat him like a 12 year old girl. This works so well that years later under Lord Vader,* Thrawn follows the same strategy. It's just that this time the immature force-sensitive child is having a Really Bad Day and remembers the time you were mean to them five years ago. It's an absolutely brilliant character dynamic, and I love it very much.
*Who is definitely not Anakin Skywalker, everyone is very clear on this point.

Guess what?
It has been exactly one year since I published my first fic on AO3 (but also anywhere)! What a year it’s been, I say, glancing over my ever-growing WIP folder.
In that year, I’ve written 32 works, for a total of 142037 words (not counting the WIPs. There’s a lot of words in those WIPs.).
All Star Wars, so far: 13 works in Thrawn (2017), 15 in Thrawn: Ascendancy, 8 in Rebels, 5 in Outbound Flight, 5 in the Prequel Trilogy, 3 in the Clone Wars, 2 in the Original Trilogy, 1 in Kenobi, and 1 in Aftermath. Most in multiple categories.
In honor of another year of writing (hopefully), here’s a roundup of all my fics!
(It’s long, so!)
Series:
The Gambler : A Rebel!Thrawn AU, starting with my first ever fic! Three parts, with vague plans for a fourth at some point.
Glimpses of a Better Galaxy : A collection of fics from an AU where Order 66 never happened, and other fix its. Starts with an Outbound Flight Fix-It, but most are following the events of Get F***ed, Palps! and its consequences. 3 parts, at least one more on the way.
Samakro’s Bathtub : A fluff series starring the Springhawk captain’s bathtub, which by all rights should be Samakro’s (says him). Gen, all Ace/Aro characters. 3 parts, possibly one more in the works.
Intelligence Gathering for Fun and Profit : What if the Rebel crew managed to sneak a camera into Thrawn’s office? Revelations and new missions ensue! Two parter, the main fic and a small Kanera coda.
Through Darkness : I love my OCs... love giving them horribly tragic backstories! My Jedi OC, Kazellis, survives the Clone Wars and Order 66, but not intact. Two parter, one more longer saga on almost finished, a prequel planned.
To be continued:
This’ll Make a Great Story at our Second Wedding : A Thranto ghost marriage with political shenanigans and Thrass, sower of chaos. Technically within the Glimpses universe, so everything’s mostly fine! Part 2 in the works.
It’s Not Easy Being Evil : Cool Ranch Vader, i.e. Vader defects and it’s up to Piett and a handful of random officers to impersonate him in order to not get executed! This can’t possibly go wrong. Part 2, which will be a collection of shorts, partly written.
Stand-alones:
Mismatched : What if Vurass was adopted by the Irizi instead of the Mitth? An AU about family, politics, and miscommunication.
Five Times Thrawn Explained and One Time He Didn’t Have To : Six conversations Thrawn had with his friends, family, and others about being Ace/Aro.
Five Times Thrawn Gave Ba’kif a Headache and One Time He Was Someone Else’s Problem : The trials and travails of Ba’kif’s bottle of ibu’prof’en as he deals with Thrawn’s nonsense.
Five Times Eli Played for Spite and One Time He Played for Fun : Badass!Eli fic featuring card games and Eli being brilliant and petty.
A Walk in the Park : A conversation between Thrass and Thrawn for Gen Ascendancy 2022, featuring birdwatching and bug hunting!
The Curse of the Dramatis Personae : A humorous fic based on the Greater Good typo listing Samakro as an Ufsa Cousin, featuring bureaucracy and paperwork!
Night Rising : Che’ri meets a friend through her tap-click games.
A Funny Story About Bananas : A humorous fic featuring Thrawn, the Chimaera crew, bananas, and mild allergies.
Trials of the Academy : Hurt/Comfort featuring Eli’s bad day and Thrawn’s attempt to help. (Gen).
Apropos : Apros’s perspective of the final battle of Lesser Evil. Contains spoilers!
Really? Again? : Greyshrike fam cuddle pile, featuring Apros!
The Death of a Family : A look at Chiss culture and the family dynamics of the merit-adoption system, featuring the Kivu Family.
Walking Among Shadows, Do You See Them Grow? : A character study featuring Thrawn and a Force-Sensitive child.
Everything is Fine : Thrass lives on a farm and everything is fine! That’s it, that’s the fic.
A Study in Forestry : A very silly fic I wrote while studying for exams. It’s. Uh. Educational, I guess.
Not Thrawn Stand-alones:
It Takes Two to Tango : Aftermath Sinjir/Conder fic filling in the missing scenes of their relationship.
Out of the Gutter and Into Hell : Reva’s “escape” from the Temple, based on episodes 1-2 of Kenobi.
Stand-alone WIPs:
Sortie : a Rebel!Samakro AU. Outlined, first section written.
Tusken Ghosts : Kenobi hears the story of the demon who slaughtered a Tusken tribe. First draft written, editing in progress.
Zero Station : The fall of the Sith Empire and the ramifications for its vassal state, the Chiss Ascendancy. Rough outline, first section written.
Bsivi Myths : An ancient Chiss legend from the time of the freezing of Csilla. Written, editing in progress.
Crotalus & Viperidae : The shared history of Jedi Master Viperidae and Sith Lord Crotalus (OCs). Outlined, first section written.
“You’ll never know how lucky you were” : Sandman fic, AU where Burgess captures Death. With beta.
A Visit From Death : Sandman fic, Death comes for Roderick Burgess. With beta.
100 Years : Sandman fic, Lucienne waits for the return of Dream. With beta.
Rise, Wrath, Ruin : a three-part original work following Boudicca’s rebellion through a fantasy version of Britain. Rough outline, first chapter started.
(Always feel free to hop into my inbox with questions, comments, or just to chat, I love talking about this stuff :) )

All Star Wars novels [canon and EU] I read this year ranked:
I made it my New Year's resolution to read more this year and among the books I read were a lot of Star Wars ones, so I decided to rank them and tell you my thoughts :)
DISCLAIMER: This is just my personal opinon and it might change if I reread some of the books.
15. Cloak of Deception - James Luceno 5/10 [EU]
A prequel to The Phantom Menace, which I was excited to read because, hey, more Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon! Great? Sadly not. They’re hardly ever featured (at least Obi-Wan feels more like a cameo character) and I remember the book being dull and a slog to go through. It isn’t necessarily the worst one; to be fair, I read it in the beginning of the year and maybe my expectations were too high. It’s interesting because of the pre-TPM politics but there are no scenes that stand out imo.
14. Children of the Jedi - Barbara Hambly 6/10 [EU]
A book with older OT characters, set some years after ROTJ. Damn. I almost didn’t finish this one. It’s quite long and especially the beginning feels very slow. I really liked the writing style; it’s very descriptive. Also, the new characters were alright, but the mystery wasn’t set up very well imo and the pacing was off.
13. Splinter of the Mind’s Eye - Alan Dean Foster 6.5/10 [EU]
Ah, the infamous almost sequel to A New Hope, that also put Han and Chewbacca on the bus. Light reading, story was alright, if a bit childish at times. I placed it higher than the ones before because I was very much amused by the incest vibes between Luke and Leia (comedy gold!) - George hadn't decided that they were siblings yet. Interesting due to its age, making you glad A New Hope cashed in as much money as it did.
12. Dark Apprentice - Kevin J. Anderson 6.5/10 [EU]
The score’s probably tainted by the fact that its the second part in a triology I only read this part of. Whoops (in my defence, I bought most of these books second-hand). Features Jedi Master Luke and his students, which was the cool part. Sadly, there’s also a very underdeveloped villain in Daala and an overpowered, uninteresting weapon.
11. The Truce at Bakura - Kathy Tyers 6.5/10 [EU]
Or: the one with the reptilians. Didn’t really get warm with that idea, but this one human side character that had been stockholm-syndrom-ed by them was quite cool and I liked Luke, I think? I don’t remember much about it, but it was alright. There was a scene with Leia rejecting Vader as a father that stood out.
10. The Crystal Star - Vonda Mcintyre 7/10 [EU]
It’s more of a 6.5/10 read, to be fair, but I really liked Han’s role in this and Leia as a badass!mother was cool too. The children were annoying but fit their age. I also liked the mystery aspects and (unpopular opinion) glop of power Waru even though some of it doesn’t quite fit Star Wars.
9. The Phantom Menace - Terry Brooks 7/10 [EU/canon]
Don’t have to say much to this, do I? I will say that I still didn’t like Jar Jar's scenes but Anakin's added scenes were cool.
8. Attack of the Clones - R. A. Salvatore 7/10 [EU/canon]
Same thing. I like both films; these prequel novels don’t really add anything that the films don’t already have. I do like the scenes with Padmé’s family that were deleted but kept here.
7. The Courtship of Princess Leia - Dave Wolverton 7/10 [EU]
Another unpopular opinion. I quite liked this one (apart from the whole premise with Han being a douche and the male gaze on the witches). It was really cool to see what Dathomir (Maul’s homeplanet) had been like when first introduced. Also, Luke’s connection to the Force was beautifully written.
6. Thrawn - Timothy Zahn 7/10 [canon]
I admit I’m not as enthusiastic about this book than others. Thrawn is an interesting character, no question. Eli is adorable and I will protect him at all costs (his dynamic with Thrawn really made this book), but it did feel quite stale at times. I also felt like the writing style could have used some more emotions, but that’s probably just me.
5. Ahsoka - E.K. Johnson 7,5/10 [canon]
Love Ahsoka, so this was a must read. I really like the small snippets between the main story and the writing style was nice, nothing too fancy. Some of the plot I liked (the side characters were cool too) but it didn’t feel like one big story, rather multiple ones glued together. In the end, it was a bit of a let down, but still an enjoyable read.
4. Jedi Apprentice series by Jude Watson (and briefly Dave Wolverton) 7,5/10 [EU]
I had a lot of fun with these 20 books about Obi-Wan's Padawan time. His dynamic with Qui-Gon is great and I loved going through all the ups and downs in their relationship with them. Admittedly, the target audience being children, the books are short and the writing style as well as the plot suffers from that, but I don’t care. Don’t ask me how much money I spent on these books :')
3. Catalyst -James Luceno 8/10 [canon]
Another book by James Luceno! And I really liked it this time! It’s a prequel to Rogue One. The dynamic between Galen, Orso and Lyra was AWESOME. Galen is too good for this world; this book made me want to write so many fics about him.
2. Master & Apprentice - Claudia Gray 9/10 [canon]
A book with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, also featuring flashbacks with Dooku – What's not to love? I really enjoyed the writing style and the side characters; all in all, it's just a really good book. The cover is gorgeous. Only the villain and their ending felt a bit on the nose and it wasn’t explained too well. But that was a minor flaw imo.
1. Revenge of the Sith - Matthew Stover 9,5/10 [EU/canon]
MY BELOVED. I’m such a big ROTS fan and this book even manages to surpass the film at times (especially for a Obi-Wan & Anakin fan). The writing style is lovely and so quotable. I read it twice this year, it’s just that good. Go read it if you haven’t already ;)

since summer is almost over, here are the star wars books i’ve read this summer:
Revenge of the Sith - Matthew Stover
7/10 stars, best canon depiction of obi wan & anakin’s relationship and pretty interesting even if you’ve seen the movie a million times, but the prose is Very Dramatique
Thrawn - Timothy Zahn
9/10 stars, the eli and thrawn dynamic is captivating, i like the morally gray look at the sw universe, i even enjoyed the arihndaaa backstory most of the time
Lords of the Sith - Paul Kemp
3/10 stars, this book sucks and the characters are pretty problematic. also it’s boring. 3 stars cause i love ryloth and the cham backstory is cool
Thrawn: Alliances - Timothy Zahn
6/10 stars, honestly was kind of boring compared to the first book. i think the problem is that both thrawn and vader are such emotionally reticent characters that reading about them in combination you kinda get Nothing.
Master & Apprentice - Claudia Gray
10/10, this book slaps. I love how it explores qui gon and obi wan’s relationship, i like how it sets up tpm, and i like the original characters a lot, too! it’s a super easy read, very fast-paced and full of funny and sweet and fascinating little tidbits
Light of the Jedi - Charles Soule
8/10, i really love the characters and the setting of the high republic era is super interesting. Unfortunately i did find the villains kind of boring and the book spent a long time focusing on their perspectives. Looking forward to reading rising storm!

Hello there! I saw and LOVED your Jedi Night art, it destroyed me emotionally, good job!!
Can I ask who your favorite SWR character was? And your favorite episodes? I get really excited to meet new people who love SWR, don't mind me!
Ok so first off, I LOVE to talk nerd, and second, can I be your best friend? You seem so nice🥺
So…. Question one:
Favorite Star Wars character?
Uggg that’s painful. I’ll divide it up
Movie trilogys:
So in the prequels I’d say obi wan.
The original definitely Darth Vader.
Sequels, Poe dameron.
Singles:
I love all the characters in rogue one, and I’m not gonna try to dig thru that mess 😅
And in Han Solo, Donald Glover played his part as Lando incredibly well, so probably him.
Shows:
Clone wars
So this was SUCH a good, and in depth show. It really showed the characters in a light that the movies could not.
Anakin was shown to do the wrong things for the right reasons. (The ends justify the means sorta stuff) and his fall from the light which was tragic, but KiNdA understandable? I really liked his character arc, even though it destroyed me🥲
Now Ashoka, is a lean, mean, girl power, fighting machine. Great character arc as well. (You wanna know what? Just assume that applies to all the characters I bring up) what I really like about her, is kinda finding herself. She was kept in the jedi order, and it was her whole life. Something that would be painful to walk away from. She kinda struggled through out the whole show with finding her balance. It’s important to apply that to our own situation I guess?
Obi wan, now I’m gonna have to keep my self from going on too long about him. Love him. I think he is what the Jedi all ought to be. He wasn’t so emotional stuffed, but he had a balance of emotions. Kinda like like control your emotions, lest they control you. (Looking at you Anakin) he went through his life, which was an incredible tragic one, with his head heals high. He could have easily turned to the dark side. His master died, Satine died, the Jedi order fell along with his friends. His brother turned against him, and died by his hand. That’s a rollercoaster life right there. And when faced with the question, he said that it takes strength to resist the dark side, which makes him stronger than those who don’t. That’s an important life lesson lol.
And there’s Rex. Simply put, he’s a good ol’ boi
Bad batch
I feel like this show hasn’t developed enough for me to say, but I do like echo, and wrecker a lot 😌
Mandalorian
For the mandalorian, obviously mando. He’s a great father, and ✨not✨ lone wolf. He Took care of his kid, and gave him up when he didn’t want to. Because that’s what he thought was best.
Rebels
Now rebels is a much better show that I was expecting. I love the family dynamic, it really captured that aspect well.
Ezra. He was an amusing bratty child in the first season, and I love him. At times I still wanted to smack him…. but I like the fact that he was faced many opportunities to turn bad, and didn’t. He dabbled a little perhaps, but he’s the type of person who has to try things out for himself, And learn lessons the hard way. As he got older he really matured, and he went from a small bean to a big bean.
Of course, I love Kanan. (I love all space dads. And adoptive dads) he was a beautiful and wonderful human being. And I’m so mad that Dave killed him off 😤😤 anyway, I like the fact that he was the first to admit that he didn’t know he was doing. Instead of acting like he was just teaching Ezra, he said they were both learning from each other.
Thrawn… for reasons
Favorite episodes, and arcs?
Rebels
I loved the bit, with the Sith temple. Ashoka finally meeting Vader, love it. So much drama. Introduction to maul, and just total legitness.
And the ending. As depressing as it was, seeing the conclusion it really makes me look forward to the Ashoka show. Although will be like almost 30, And he’d’ve missed out on so much😭
Clone wars
Oh there’s so many good ones. I love the episodes focusing on Ventress. It was an unexpected journey, and darth maul was somewhat involved as well.
Obviously Umbara. This one was exceedingly painful, but it really got the point across about the injustice and individuality of the clones. I know casual Star Wars watchers tend to skim over this a bit. super powerful.
The Mortis arc, was super epic, with great visuals, symbolism. And when Anakin found out he would become Vader I almost died
While I’m talking about clones, The order arc with the inhibitor chips was stupid good. And sad as well. (I apparently really like the emotionally devastating bits and pieces)
The one with Yodas trials was a really good one. I didn’t pay good attention the first time around. Just so u know yoda has never been one of my favorite characters. But I liked him a little better after this arc. It shows us his deepest fears, and it was really nice seeing so much foreshadowing.
Asoka leaving the order was super emotional and help put things in motion
And of course the siege mandalore. The final conclusion to the clone wars, in the beginning of the empire.
Anyways sorry for the long post, I’m sure this isn’t what you asked for but what can I say 🤷‍♀️ my life’s been hijacked by Star Wars. Dave this is your fault🔫

if your a fanfic writer, could u write some romantic btw anakin & thrawn fics. maybe some NSFW in there too. :)
here is some #Thranakin for you to enjoy
1_Thrawn meets anakin's kids.
Tumblr media
2_Thrawn is injured and ani is helping him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the dynamic between them in the book. at the beginning it is thrawn who's constantly trolling anakin, he's usually smiling and is reminding anakin of seeing the bigger pic (not just saving padme but also taking care of the cortosis factory).
But the second part, it's vader constantly reminding thrawn of his failure on lothal against the rebels, trolling him, annoying thrawn constantly and reminding him to see the bigger pic (not just focus on helping the chiss kids but the empire he promised to protect).

hi hi !! idk if you remember me but i'm the user who asked if the canon thrawn novels were worth reading
well i finally made my way through Thrawn, the first in the trilogy and just .... starsssss i should've read it before watching rebels s3 & s4 it adds a whole new level to thrawn & pryce. i loved reading about thrawn's rise through the imperial navy because the legends books never really talked about them and it was great to see how he became Grand Admiral Thrawn
i love eli so much ahhh i'm so excited to read more of him in the next two books,, also whoever slipped the doonium reference in in the latest bad batch episode. very smart they did their research
sorry i'm rambling in your inbox i just have a lot of feelings about this book and you're the biggest eli vanto and canon thrawn books enthusiast i know
hi! ahhh this made me smile so hard!!!
i do love pryce and thrawn in the first novel and how their rise up the imperial ranks sort of parallel each other? and that she’s a vital factor re: eli’s promotion because thrawn has no idea about politics (bless him)? like, they can’t really stand one another but help each other out because they see no other way and that’s just *chef’s kiss* wlw/mlm hostility
sadly mr. vanto isn’t in alliances (the second one) but the anakin/vader & thrawn dynamic is... SOMETHING ELSE. poor faro, she’s really going thru it in this book. 🤭
i hope you’ll love alliances and treason as much as i do! i found them absolutely delightful. and if you ever need to ramble again my inbox is open haha <3
(and when you finish the trilogy and want more, please please PLEASE read the thrawn ascendancy books, chaos rising and greater good. they’re about thrawn’s time in the ascendancy before his time in the empire and they’re AMAZING. the third one, lesser evil, comes out in november and i can hardly wait!!)

Gotta put together (some of) my feelings and thoughts about the mandalorian S2 finale so spoilers, can’t put it under a read more on tablet but SPOILERs and it’s tagged so:
I didn’t get it until the x wing landed in the hangar... then I started crying in both hope and fear. I felt Luke was the option to go to but I never thought they would ACTUALLY do it. Then it was him on the cams and you couldn’t see the color but the SOUND. Then you saw the glove!!! And then the shot mirroring Vader with the green in the smoke like...wow (also kinda mirrored Vader’s slaughter in rogue one but with less human murder). And so many of Luke’s moves reminded me of Anakin and Vader that it was just undeniable. Like it all just compiled so nicely and it was just amazing. (the cgi on his face was a lil eh but it was still Luke) AND THEN R2!!! I jumped and yelped and cried again. And then of course Din removing his helmet for Grogu... come on... it’s too sweet. “‘let me look on you with my own eyes” come THROUGH FATHER SON DYNAMIC ITS POETRY IT RHYMES!!! But of course the thought crossed my mind when Luke was holding Grogu... his possible fate to Kyle at Luke’s temple... oof. I mean possibly not but ??? ALSO WHEN GIDEON TRIED TO SHOOT GROGU?!?! I HATED THAT SO MUCH! THAT SPLIT SECOND HAD ME REELING,SEETHING. Also I wonder if Grogu is the first kid recruited by Luke? I think that would be such an interesting dynamic, I mean aside from Ben of course but... that is just such an interesting thought for this to be the first recruitment of his temple. The weight it puts on that scene and Luke’s determination to get to him...like come on. The only thing I wanted more than Luke was Leia, because I am dying for more Jedi Leia, but it’s obviously a bit iffy territory to tread, sadly rip queen. Also also I need to see a Grogu/Din reunion. Particularly I think it would be great to see them years later, I mean I would love Din to have constant contact with his SON, but of course a years later reunion would be so interesting to see the dynamic. Do they settle back in? Is Grogu too young rn to be able to be taken away and have a good connection (without taking into account any force connection type vibes) later on? Grogu didn’t get his ball...
Also i was so engrossed I forgot about the actual kind of... inheritance of the darksaber, kinda due to Sabine giving Bo the darksaber in rebels?? and that was just such a moment. As soon as I saw Gideon smiling/laughing at Bo I was like.. wait a minute... The whole time, from Boba and Koska and Bo’s fight/bickering at the beginning, to when Gideon was holding it up to Grogu, I was just like Din doesn’t care about all this he just wants Grogu. And it broke my heart when he was telling her to take it, and she just couldn’t, knowing that’s not what he wants at all (i mean who knows where it will go now with Grogu gone but :/ still doesn’t seem like the rule Mandalore type but he really almost has a no choice.. also high key feel bad for Bo. She was just feigning for Gideon and the darksaber and made it clear but just happenstance and.. not even back at square one but now stuck in this weird place. She knows Din’s not like Gideon so she can’t justify going after him like that. But also lowkey wanted to fight her after she called out Boba as not a real mandalorian, and talking about him being a clone, at the beginning but I guess he doesn’t really care too much sinc he’s so sure of himself and doesn’t need recognition from other mandalorians). I am so interested in how Din moves forward. Also I love how they allowed Luke and Boba to just pass each other lol because 😬 (also is koska dead??) And according to Gideon they already got Grogu’s blood so :/ but also R2/Grogu recognizing each other??
BOBA SUPREMACCYYYY!!!! RIP Jeremy Bulloch 💕 The after credit omg... Fat Bib Fortuna physically taking Jabba’s place on the throne and manifesting the body to go with it lol but I loved how it mirrored Luke’s entrance at Jabba’s palace, and of course as soon as we see Fennec I know Boba was coming along, and I just... oof. The book of Boba... wow... I am so hype for next December. Him and Fennec running the criminal underworld?? Pls let Cobb vanth show up because I would love to see Boba stare down the dude who ‘borrowed’ his armor for a while. Also I wanna know a bit more of Boba’s escape/survival and time with the Tusken raiders, I loved seeing them a bit more this season compared to the very brief glimpses and Ani’s slaughter. Also Dark Troopers so good. Good love it.
I wonder if the book of boba is the next season, so an installment of this series.. that’s what I think it will probably be... but also Bo and Din on mandalore?? But also explore Luke’s Jedi Temple... him finding the force sensitives and how his methods differ from the old Jedi Order. How he changes it and improves or what he sticks to that works/doesn’t?? And of course we got the set up for Thrawn/Ahsoka/ EZRA??!?!? (pls rahul kohli) show and all the other shows which.. while I am hype for book of boba (the best title) I am still OBVI most hype for the Obi wan because baby boy ani and ewan, like if this?!? Had me crying... I am going to get destroyed when that obi-wan show drops. Dubstep droids... Also I really thought there would be something to the “‘pure Beskar” line, like one of the mando’s armor wouldn’t be pure and they get stabbed... listen I came into this thinking someone was going to die.
I have so much Feelings and Thoughts and just needed them somewhere. It felt like Star Wars... it felt like I was in the theaters. I was crying and talking to myself and silently yelling since it was 3am but... it just felt amazing. It was amazing. Like it’s just kind of insane especially when there were so many times when it seemed like Star Wars was gone or changing too much... which isn’t exactly bad but it was just kind of nice to feel like it used to. The nostalgia...and the love and the hope gosh ❤️
Edit: AHSOKA AND LUKE MEET. TALK ABOUT ANI! LET LUKE LEARN OF HIS DAD, LET AHSOKA LEARN OF HIS REDEMPTION! NOW LUCASFILMS🔫

those are too many wips.
here’s a list with brief summaries, and then you can tell me what to finish first because i am suffering from big time choice paralysis. anon is on. ask away.
ace Obi-Wan vague idea: what it says on the tin. it was going to involve teen Obi-Wan, friendship with Quinlan and Luminara. in which Obi-Wan is interested in sex... in theory. academically. he’s his suave, charming self, and will experiment for the hell of it. (i was slightly uncomfortable with the premise of, basically, a fic about an asexual character all about... well, sex. but i wanted to work some shit out and what better way than overprojecting over fictional characters?)
Anakin in lingerie: just polishing up an old tumblr post. modern AU.
Anakin in makeup obianidala: again from an old post with subskywalker. but i wanted to give it a structure
Ani5dala FIX IT: OH MAN I WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS. i have tons of notes and no energy to proceed. in which Fox has a plan to keep Fives alive, Fives has a plan to keep the Republic alive - but Anakin is being a butt and Fives needs Pamé’s help. (probably Anakin and Fives were together before? + anidala open relationship, i was thinking, but idk yet)
AWOL Cody: oh boy, i started plotting this for my pod-together 2018 project with litra. in which Obi-Wan is declared KIA, but there is NO BODY and also suspicious footage/Ahsoka saw something and Cody is NOT having it so he goes on a solo mission to save him. codywan.
Darkness is but a passing thing: same as above, it was supposed to be written in 2018, good grief. post rots, sort of time-travellish, i’m not saying more bc most of the plot was litra’s and idk if she wants to share.
Detonate: translation into english of my italian obikin smut, which i promised ages ago.
enemies to colleagues to lovers codywan: this, but with a proper outline this is now being Properly Plotted. there are mindmaps. and a Scrivener file.
Jedi OC: from a prompt from last year’s rarepair exchange: Male Jedi Who Accidentally Keeps Causing Property Damage/Male Owner of Said Property (words written: 0, but the idea was funny)
Laurea traduzione: eng translation of my italian modern au obikin
Leia using the Force: a messy messy file with more than one idea in, actually. i wasn’t sure wether to go with child or teen Leia (post Princess of Alderaan plot) but then i got distracted with making Leia and Kaeden meet. Ahsoka/Kaeden.
million: from a fic exchange request in which someone said they’d read “a million words” of Bly and Aayla being disgustingly in love. just that. with a side of codywan (the irony of Bly being all like “ugh, THOSE TWO” fuelled the first few hundred words).
obianidala with nb Anakin: wait, isn’t this kinda related to the Anakin in makeup one? my plotbunnies are a mess. maybe from this or this post.
ObiBail Empire Era AND OR others: frankly. a disaster mess probably inspired by the beginning of Til the casket drops and Wild Space.
ObiBail obianidala Breha super poly dinner: this post, but in fic form
ObiBailRex: this one is funny. i found the first few sentences handwritten in a notebook and i have no memory of where i wanted to go from there, but damn, i liked those. Obi-Wan forces Cody to take some leave, and Cody forces Rex to play babysitter to his General and his Senator friend. shenanigans ensue.
storms: ahahah, another fic pending since..... uuuh...... the clone wars exchange from, again, 2018? (how much shit did i sign up for that summer? i was in the midst of moving!! why am i like this). sorry perspicacia, if you’re even still around. preparing for that fic was how i got in to obi/rex tho? and it still doesn’t have a plot.
unhinged Obi-Wan vs Grievous: this, but with a plot. if i can find the plot. why is plotting so hard? no plotting, only cool scenes. (sith/fallen!obi getting the 212th to follow him and go rogue?? maybe?) see “enemies to colleagues to lovers” above
when the numbers get to zero: a Rex/Padmé i love a lot but that, as usual with ALL my damn fic, has no structure. inspired by the blue shadow virus eps. (i posted a snippet ages ago - oh wait, here’s another one)
now onto the folders!
keep verse
untitled about other Clones finding out, and the consequences. “It’s Bly who finds out first through the GAR grapevine. Cody was supposed to be dead - and suddenly he wasn’t.”
Pilots (ot era)
Tumblr media
Oblivious Pilots - The entire Rogue Squadron is made of oblivious disasters. They share one braincell, and Nawara is the only one who’s actually using it.
Dark Imperial AU - Luke is raised by Vader. but when he meets Wedge and Tycho...
Skystrike Academy AU - Luke is raised by Owen, Beru... and Obi-Wan. And he signs up to train as TIE pilot as part of a Resistance plan
WedgeTycho - the tiniest spark of an idea. Alderanian philosophy, Tycho being pretentious, sad, grieving, and in need of a hug.
SitS - A Light from the Shadows
SitS stands for “the Sith in the Senate”, the working title for this epic I’ve been plotting since 2018 that might never see the light because I went “I want a well-adjusted, non traumatised Obi-Wan!”, build a whole new canon around that ......and then got bored of it, obviously, since I love to see Obes suffer. but there were tons of things I liked and maybe I should rework it somehow? (it was supposed to be obikin. then obianidala. then i think i got distracted and got Cody to flirt with Obi-Wan. who knows at this point. what if I throw in Jango)
soft now verse
parts 2.1 and 2.2 are there and almost ready and filled with clones feels (yes, this was a fix it obianidala fluff, but CLONES)
Space Dads Extraordinaire
Hope in Unexpected Places pt 2 and maybe 3 or maybe that’s a separate story? I have feelings about smol Boba interacting with Obi-Wan and learning to trust him, but don’t know how to handle them. There should also be the bit where they find Jango’s pet strill, which I promised to Lulu like a year ago.
the life and opinions
this is a cursed title, i started a fic with a similar title in another fandom almost 15 years ago and never finished it. it was supposed to be a biography of Rex and his rise through the ranks and into an AU where the vode have their own governing body. a shitton of Rex and Cody brotherly feels but maybe also ship? why can’t i pick a dynamic
Thrawn
Tumblr media
browser history - Thranto moments told through Eli’s holonet searches
your silence is my favourite word - Emperor Eli angsty smut
new rules - Emperor Eli AU, but make it reasonably happy
see me like this - Emperor Eli AU, angst cranked up to the max
bb Thrawn - Thranto AU in which Thrawn is a weird child, the Chiss have some more contact with humans and Eli & Thrawn meet as kids
forgotten words - Thrawn growing up in the Empire, raised by Palpatine.

I've recently started reading SW novels and I just need someone to hear me out: 1. ROTS novelization by Matthew Stover is a real masterpiece. Probably one of my fav books. 2. If I were Obi I would hate flying too after what happened in Master & Apprentice. Also I'm not really fond of Qui Gon. 3.Dark Disciple is great and Asajj Ventress is so interesting character. 4. I really like the Clone Wars Gambit series. I need more Taria Damsin content. I loved her. Also: why everyone Obi loves die? 1/2
2/2 He really deserves better. And the dynamic of his relationship with Anakin is shown really well. 5. From a certain point of view is one of my fav SW books. Waiting for the next part. 6. Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover. I take back (almost) everything bad I have ever said about Mace Windu. I officially love this character. He cares for Depa so much. I don't care it's legends. Mace Windu is great. PS. Do u know any other SW books worth reading? Cause need more.
3/2 (I promise it is the last one) PPS. I love 'Disconnected Conduit'. The idea is so brilliant! I actually re-read it several times. Idk why, but always when I read descryption of Anakin, I can hear 'Monster' by Imagine Dragons, especially lines like: "I never said that I want this, this burden came to me and it's made it's home inside" or "If I told you what I was, would you turn your back on me? And if I seem dangerous, would you be scared?" asjjsizoksejeizhdvg it's so good!
4/2 (okay, I lied. But this really is the last one) Anyway you're so talented and your work is so amazing! Keep going! PPPS. I'm also a big fan of your Silka Beads series. I'll be waiting patiently (or at least I'll try) for Ahsoka meeting Luke. Thanks for hearing me out. 😅
5/2 I forgot about one thing. I guess I'll just come back to TCW and re-watch every single episode with Mace Windu. I've got a feeling, I will see him differently than before. Wow. My speech was a bit longer than I anticipated. Anyway may the Force be with you!
My god, wow, thanks for the messages! I certainly have a lot to answer.
Books worth reading: Hooooo boy I have a FUCKING LIST I hope you’re ready for this. These are Canon.
Battlefront II: Inferno Squad
Lords Of The Sith (The Novel)
Ahsoka
Queen’s Peril
Queen’s Shadow
Thrawn
Thrawn: Alliances
Thrawn: Treason
Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising
Doctor Aphra (audiobook OR comics)
Darth Vader 2020 (comics)
Catalyst
Tarkin
A New Dawn
As for legends:
Darth Plagueis
Kenobi
And in response to your questions in no particular order because right now I am extremely scatterbrained and have had a long day:
IMO Mace gets villified far too much in this fandom. There’s a lot of Mace hate, I think. And I get it. He comes off as a dick sometimes. But he’s such a good person at heart and too many people take his passing comments and amplify it and use it to poison his other good actions or use it to forget about them entirely.
I just want my boi Obi-Wan to be happy too ;-;
Dark Disciple was great. But. But. Ventress deserved better.
ROTS novel is the fucking best
Thank you so much ;-; I’ll update eventually for both DC and Silka Spirits, I swear. One day. I’m currently absolutely pooped thanks to school.
Thank you again for these wonderful messages. If you or anybody else has sent m a dm and I haven’t responded, it’s because I’m absolutely lacking the social energy to uphold a conversation. I’ll reply when I can.
