Mirabel's Super Secret Adventure
Movie AU
Chapter Preview: How many secrets were Tío Bruno and Tía Leandra keeping? First the cracks, then Isabela, now this.
Prologue Prev Next Masterlist
7. Things Bruno Doesn't Talk About
Mirabel’s epiphany made her re-examine her wish to keep the cracks to herself. On the one hand, she really kind of wanted to be the person who fixed all this; on the other, if somebody in her family was really in that much pain…
Shouldn’t Mirabel focus on fixing it fast rather than by herself?
Reluctantly, Mirabel decided she would share what she’d learned with Tío Bruno. He, at the very least, would still allow her to help. If she told Abuela she would be thanked for bringing it to her attention, then told to go rest and let somebody else handle it.
After she finished helping her Pá teach Antonio, she headed over to Tío Bruno’s room and knocked on the door. This time, when she didn’t get an answer, she walked in. Tío Bruno had a tent hidden somewhere in the cave system that ran throughout his canyon, so if he wanted privacy he would just hide in his tent. As such, the kids in the family were always allowed to enter his room and hang out in his storytelling tent in the middle of his canyon’s oasis.
Mirabel ducked under his sand curtain and paused on the landing to shake the sand out of her hair. Octavia was down at the bottom of the canyon, using the sand to practice different gazebo designs. She paused halfway through making an octagon shaped gazebo to wave at Mirabel, then got back to work.
“What do you think?” Octavia asked, holding the sand in the shape that she wanted.
“I like the trellis siding,” Mirabel answered.
“Yeah, I don’t know, feels pretty basic,” Octavia frowned, then she grinned and with a few twitches of her fingers, the diamond shaped holes became hearts.
Mirabel frowned at the hearts.
“What? Too much?”
“No uh, it’s just,” she thought about biting her tongue, but she’d already told Amada, so she might as well keep flapping her mouth, “Isabela doesn’t want to marry him. She’s doing it for the family. Your Pá has a plan to fix things though.”
“Oh,” Octavia paused, then adjusted the hearts so they were in two parts with a jagged line in between them, “so, that better?”
Mirabel couldn’t help a dry chuckle, “Abuela would blow a gasket.”
Octavia giggled, “Yeah.”
Mirabel watched for a while as her cousin made gazebo after gazebo, each one slowly becoming more extravagant. Eventually Octavia was making entire gazebo palaces. It was a far cry from the sloppy houses she’d made in front of the town’s architect.
Most of the time, she wouldn’t have thought twice about it. A gazebo is a whole lot simpler than a house, after all. But with her mind still buzzing away, looking for problems large enough to cause all those cracks, she found herself eyeing the ease with which Octavia molded the sand.
Now that Mirabel was really thinking about it, Octavia seemed to be ten times better at using her gift whenever Abuela wasn’t watching.
“Octavia?” Mirabel asked, slowly.
“Yep?” Octavia chirped, adding another open air turret to the top of the gazebo's right wing.
“Do you… pretend to be worse at your gift when Abuela is around?”
The gazebo palace collapsed in on itself, Octavia slowly turned towards Mirabel, wide eyed. It was all the confirmation Mirabel needed.
She whispered, “Please don’t tell.”
“I won’t, I won’t, but… why?”
“Because I don’t want to end up like Luisa.”
“Like Luisa-? Oh.”
Octavia jerked her shoulders in a shrug, “By the time she was my age, she was already working eight hours a day. Now she doesn’t even get to finish breakfast half the time.”
Mirabel slowly nodded, to show that she’d heard her, then drifted over to the story telling tent. She entered the dimly lit haven and sat down on one of the many floor cushions. The tent flap opened, letting unfiltered light in, then closed and Octavia sat next to her, fiddling with a rock.
There was a long period of contemplative silence.
“Are you happy?” Mirabel eventually asked. Was anyone in their family truly happy?
“I am,” Octavia said, smiling a little, “although, sometimes I feel a bit guilty for hiding what I can do from everybody.”
“So everyday, when you practice with Tía Leandra?”
“We mostly just play around, experiment with my gift and stuff,” Octavia shrugged, “I am actually learning about architecture, I do want to make houses, but I want to be a kid first. You know?”
“When did you start pretending?”
“Pretty much immediately,” Octavia floated the rock in the palm of her hand and began running it through different shapes, “Má has always been-. The first thing I learned was all the ways to make a house poorly, right? Long run it means when I want to make a house well, I just don’t do any of the things I’d do to make it bad. Short term, I know exactly how to make it look like I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“And Tía Leandra has been helping you lie? This whole time?”
“It was my parents’ idea,” Octavia admitted, “well, I think it was Pá’s, but he’s not great at the whole, sneaky subterfuge thing, so Má has been handling it. Oh! Since you know now, you wanna see the Eiffel Tower?”
“Sure,” Mirabel said, faintly, mind still reeling. How many secrets were Tío Bruno and Tía Leandra keeping? First the cracks, then Isabela, now this.
Tío Bruno had said his gift meant he knew a bunch of stuff that wasn’t technically his business, even Amada had learned things through her limited sight that weren’t hers to tell. Dolores was the same way, she knew everything about everyone, and barely ever said a word. As Mirabel followed Octavia back out to the dessert portion of the canyon bottom, she wondered what her life would have been like if she had gotten a gift. Specifically a gift that made her privy to information she wasn’t meant to know.
Would she keep so many secrets too?
“Ok, so! The trick is to lift all the sand up then shape it as it falls,” Octavia said brightly, lifting what must have been a ton or two of sand, she tilted her head, “hold on, that’s a little too much.”
She separated out some of the sand and dumped it, then examined her giant sand cloud. She grinned and nodded and began releasing the sand a little at a time.
“I have to be careful to remember all the big clumps at the top, there’s rooms and stuff up there you know,” Octavia continued to narrate, glancing excitedly at Mirabel every few minutes to make sure she was paying attention, “and then I gotta make all the cross beams. On all four sides, too. See! Then I used to put this part that all the people can stand on half way down, but it’s more like a quarter of the way up. Riiiiiiiiight there! Now the legs are nice and thick, but if I make them too thick it looks really cartoony, so it’s got to be just the right level of thick. And ta-da! The Eiffel Tower!”
She held the tower steady with one raised hand and put the other one on her hip, grinning broadly at Mirabel.
“It’s amazing,” she told her, honestly. Because it was. The tower was about as tall as Tío Bruno’s canyon, and molded with such precision that Mirabel could make out all the little rivets, bolts, and screws holding it together.
“Yeah, I’m really good at this,” Octavia allowed the sand to fall in a controlled implosion, then turned back to Mirabel, “Sometimes I wish I could show off, you know? But I know the second I do I’ll pretty much just be Luisa the Sequel. Má and Pá always do a good job of acting impressed with me, and so do Amada and Gabe.”
“Wait, Gabe knows? And he hasn’t-?”
“Tattled? Of course not, you think he wants the townspeople treating one of his precious baby sisters the way they treat Luisa? Hell, if he could figure out how to get people to back off Luisa, he would.”
“Hold on, am I literally the last to know how overworked Luisa is?”
“Nah, pretty sure that’ll be Luisa herself,” Octavia lifted more sand and started making a statue of the family instead, “and your Má doesn’t know because she’s always working too, and Isabela doesn’t know because she’s always practicing being perfect, and Camilo doesn’t know because he’s always babysitting or entertaining the villagers, and I don’t think Tío Agustín or Tío Félix know because they got so many chores to do around the house.”
“But your parents know,” Mirabel filled in, “and they told you three?”
“Not really, Gabe noticed it by himself, and Má might have noticed it and told Pá. Or Pá told Má when he had that vision. I don’t know. But that’s how Amada and I found out, we saw Pá’s vision-. Wait… I maybe shouldn’t tell you about that.”
“What vision?”
“Um, nothing, no vision. Pá doesn’t have visions, he can’t even see!”
“Octavia, what vision?!”
She waved her hand and suddenly the sand gathered around her in a windowless dome. Mirabel tried digging into the sand, but it actively resisted her hands.
“Octavia!”
The dome didn’t budge.
Eventually, Mirabel put her hands on her hips and looked up towards Tío Bruno’s vision cave. She could barely see it from her place on the ground. Tío Bruno said that it got taller and taller every year, but had slowed down ever since he had started giving weekly story time to the kids.
Climbing up there was still the worst.
Which was exactly why Mirabel suspected that was where he stored any visions he didn’t want anyone to see. Nobody climbed up those stairs unless they had to. Tío Bruno had a secret passageway up there, but, well it was a secret passageway, not a well known passageway.
So, leaving the dome behind, Mirabel made her way to the stairs. She took a few deep breaths, then started the long journey up to the vision cave.
About halfway up, Mirabel wondered if she really needed to see this vision. It was about Luisa after all, not her. It probably wasn’t any of her business.
However, it might be connected to the cracks.
Or, it might give Mirabel some way to help her older sister.
Granted, if the vision could help Luisa in any way, Tío Bruno had probably already tried. But Mirabel would bet good money that the vision was about whatever warning Luisa had been ignoring. Maybe if she knew what was coming, she could give Luisa an extra push.
Three quarters of the way up, Mirabel paused to take a few more deep breaths, hands on her hips.
Almost there, she told herself, almost.
Steeling herself, she kept going.
She had to stop for another breather before crossing the bridge. If telling stories to kids had made the stairs slow in their growth, they needed to start making him tell stories once a day, then the stairs might actually shrink.
The bridge was thin, and felt pretty rickety. It was two lines of wooden planks side by side, suspended by some rough rope. Mirabel was just grateful there was a safety line on either side.
Carefully, Mirabel crossed the bridge, gritting her teeth as it swayed beneath her. She didn’t want to go too fast, but she definitely didn’t linger.
Mirabel could count on one hand all the times she’d been up here. And most of them were before the bridge had slimmed down to its current state. Usually when Tío Bruno gave personal visions, only he and Tía Leandra would come up. If he was giving one of his showy visions about fun stuff, he generally did it in the old river bed, so he could make the sand whirlwind as big as it needs to be to hold everybody in attendance.
As she entered the corridor to the actual cave, her eyes roved over the carvings on the wall. There were shelves full of incense and herbs, and a few vision tablets she recognized as being some of his favorite visions.
None of them featured Luisa.
Next, Mirabel eyed the big circular door. It looked heavy, but when she got her hands on the door knob, it swung open easily enough.
The cave beyond was about as dark as she expected, and, unsurprisingly, filled with sand. The only thing in the room other than sand and stone was a locked trunk. Mirabel propped the door open and walked over to the trunk, kneeling in front of it. The lock was a simple padlock, an old thing with a keyhole.
Mirabel glanced over her shoulder, then reached into her bag. She pulled out two of her thickest embroidery needles and began working at the lock.
Not that Mirabel had any experience with lock picking, of course. She had never ever, for random example, broken into a cupboard Abuela had hidden the good scissors in, or anything like that. It was purely beginner's luck that allowed Mirabel to open the padlock within minutes.
She placed the lock aside and opened the trunk. Sitting inside were three visions, stacked on top of eachother. The first was clearly very old and showed a much younger Tía Leandra wearing very little clothing; Mirabel wrinkled her nose and put that one aside. Underneath it was a vision showing Luisa standing by her pool, easily hefting Mariano over the water with one hand, and Dolores with the other. They were all laughing.
Mirabel cocked her head, she couldn’t think of a single reason why this vision would be hidden. Carefully, she picked it up, but when she held it up and changed the angle, the vision shifted to a much less cheerful image.
Instead, Luisa was now standing among rubble, clearly struggling to lift a section of wall off a crate.
Mirabel gasped as she started shifting the tablet back and forth, watching the happy scene appear and disappear.
Was Luisa going to lose her gift? Why?
Tío Bruno had apparently been telling Luisa she needed to relax, but how could her not relaxing lead to her gift going away?
And what was with the rubble?
Mirabel dropped the vision into her lap, staring into the middle distance. For a few seconds, all she could do was blink dumbly into nothing, trying to figure out what this vision meant. Then something caught her eye.
Was that her?
Slowly, heart beating in her ears, Mirabel reached into the trunk and pulled out the last vision. It was like the one of Luisa, if she held it one way, Mirabel was standing in front of a perfectly intact Casita, if she tilted it the other, Casita was falling to pieces behind her.
This must be how Tío Bruno found out about the cracks. This must be the vision he had that told them Mirabel had miracle magic for emergencies. Mirabel had always assumed the vision showed her fixing whatever was broken, that it ended with a happy image. This vision didn’t look happy, it didn’t even look certain.
She hadn’t even considered the thought that she might not succeed. That she might not fix the cracks. Of course she would, this was Encanto, and she was a Madrigal. Mirabel couldn’t let her familia or the village down.
Suddenly she remembered Dolores’ words of warning, “If you can’t live up to the village’s expectations” she had trailed off but the implication had been that you would end up like Tío Bruno. Hated by many, and blamed for things beyond your control.
After a few seconds of thought, she put the other two visions back, but kept the one about her.
Mirabel re-locked the trunk and hurried out of the cave, closing it behind her. She walked across the bridge as quickly as she dared, and had to struggle to keep herself from running down the stairs. When she was halfway down, she noticed that there were two more people standing at the bottom of the canyon.
Tío Bruno and Tía Leandra.
When they looked up and saw her they both smiled, Tío Bruno raising his hand to wave at her. Then they must have noticed the vision in her hand because Tía Leandra visibly grimaced and Tío Bruno’s hand stopped mid-wave.
To their credit, when she got to them, neither of them bothered to lecture her about snooping.
“I hope that’s not the one of me,” Tía Leandra said, Tío Bruno sent her a look, but she just flashed her cheekiest grin at him and he melted.
“I am honestly trying to forget I saw that, thanks,” Mirabel said.
“I uh I’m guessing that one is-,” Bruno rubbed nervously at his arm.
In answer, Mirabel held up the vision so they could see, “How do I fix things?”
The two adults exchanged a look, but didn’t respond. Octavia leaned as far forward as she could without losing her balance to see the tablet, then frowned, brows wrinkled.
“Do I, I don’t know, pray at the candle? Hug everybody in the family? What? How do I heal the cracks?”
“What cracks?” Octavia cut in. She must have been standing at an angle from which Casita was intact.
“The cracks in the walls,” Mirabel answered, eyes fixed on her Tío, “he’s been patching them for years but they keep growing.”
“You saw the cracks?” Tía Leandra looked a little more surprised then Mirabel would have expected.
“How’d you get past the hole?” Tío Bruno cocked his head.
“I used a ladder to climb down, walked across, then climbed back up.”
“A ladder…? We have a ladder that long?”
“Yeah, it’s not even ten feet deep.”
“Oh.”
They both stared at her in silence for a second.
“Bruno, darling?”
“Sí mi amor?”
“We might be stupid.”
“Sí mi amor.”
Mirabel lifted the tablet again, opening her mouth to insist Tío Bruno tell her more about his vision, but was cut off when Bruno’s door opened and Camilo’s voice bounced off the canyon walls, “Time for dinner!”

——————————————————————————
You loved the Madrigals, you really did. Hell, you were married to one of them. But they could be a bit… overwhelming.
You and Bruno couldn’t even get a moment alone on your anniversary of all days, despite how much you tried. And oh, you tried, but you were constantly interrupted by people wanting to congratulate the two of you, wishing you happiness in your marriage and even giving you gifts. And when they threw a party for the two of you near the end of the day, you knew it would be late at night by the time you would get time alone. You appreciated it, of course, but all you really wanted to do was get in bed with your husband.
It was near midnight before you finally got to escape to your bedroom. After wishing everyone a good night and thanking them for everything, the two of you rushed to your room before anyone could interrupt again.
As soon as the door was locked he pulled you to him and kissed you. “Mierda, I thought we’d never get away,” he chuckled between kisses. “‘M sorry, mi vida. They mean well, it’s just…”
“Mm, I know. It’s sweet of them to do all of this for us,” you assured him, taking his hand and dragging him to the bed.
Bruno grinned as you pulled him onto the mattress with you, threading his fingers with yours as he laid next to you. “Yeah… I mean, it’s nice, but I’ve been dying to get alone all day,” he sighed, rubbing the back of your hand with his thumb.
You cupped his cheek in your hand. “Well we have now, don’t we?”
He nodded, climbing over you. “Yeah… gonna make up for all the time we lost today,” he whispered, leaning down to kiss at your neck.
“Y’know, I was thinking… maybe we could do something different tonight..?” you whispered back, slightly nervous about his reaction to what you’re about to suggest.
He leaned away to look at you, a small smile playing on his lips. “What is it?”
“Um… well…” you took a deep breath, trying to steel your nerves. “Have you ever heard of, uh… roleplay?”
He gave you a knowing smirk, leaning closer. “Yeah..?”
“Um. Well, I was thinking, maybe we could try it?”
He kissed you again, sweet and gentle. “Sounds fun. What’d you have in mind?”
“Well, I was thinking maybe you could play a thief breaking into my home or something..?” you suggested, still shy.
He nodded, fully paying attention, and you had no idea how he wasn’t laughing at you. You felt ridiculous for even mentioning it. “Okay,” he said. Simple, no judgement or amusement in his voice. You would even go so far as to say he sounded excited. “You sure you wanna do this?”
You nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m sure.”
“Alright then, let’s do it,” he agreed with a smile and a kiss to your cheek.
“You better have been telling the truth when you said your real gift is acting.”
You awoke to a thud from somewhere in your house. You sat up, rubbing your eyes. “Wha..?” you groaned to yourself, getting up to search for the source of the noise. You didn’t even get to the door before you found your answer.
You screamed when the man appeared in your doorway, and he quickly silenced you with a hand over your mouth.
“Shut. Up.” he seethed, grabbing you hard and pushing you back onto your bed. “You're gonna let me have my way, got it?”
You nodded wordlessly, too afraid to speak.
He nodded in return. “Good.”
You watched in terror as he went through your room, knocking things to the ground and searching your drawers.
“This real gold?” he asked, holding up a necklace he found on your dresser.
“Yes,” you said quietly, terrified of what he might do to you if you lied.
He hummed and pocketed the piece of jewelry, then turned to you, eyeing you up and down. "Mierda, you're pretty. I couldn't see you well before, but now that I've got a better view, I think I might take you too."
You felt a chill run down your spine at his words. Take you..? You weren't sure what he meant, and you didn't think you wanted to. He started walking towards you and you squeezed your eyes shut, bracing yourself for whatever he was about to do. What you didn't expect was for his hands to grip your wrists, pushing you back onto the mattress as he climbed over you. Your eyes flew open. "Sir..."
He grinned as you whimpered under him. "I'm gonna make a deal with you. You let me fuck you, I'll leave."
Your eyes widened at his proposal, a mix of fear and arousal swirling in your gut. "And if I don't?"
The man chuckled darkly, his grip tightening on your wrists. "I'll make sure there isn't a single valuable item left in this entire house. Your choice, cariña."
You gaze up at his eyes, now darkened with lust, weighing your options. Surely it would be easier to just let him do this... and you certainly couldn't afford to lose all of your possessions. "You can fuck me," you answered meekly.
"Yeah, that's what I thought," he growled, letting go of one wrist so he could unbutton his pants.
You whimpered involuntarily when his other hand left your wrist to slide up your shirt, running along the skin, "Dios, you're soft..."
"Please don't hurt me..." you whispered shakily as he moved his hands to the hem of your skirt.
"I won't," he assured you, sliding down your skirt and panties, surprisingly gentle. "All you gotta do is lay there and keep looking pretty."
You nodded, eyes wide as his eyes roamed your body, drinking you in. His fingers gently prodded at your entrance, and you hissed at the feeling of his cold fingers on your heat.
His eyes never left yours as two of his long, thick fingers slid into you, watching you writhe and gasp beneath him. "That's it, hermosa..."
The nickname only made you more aroused, gasping and panting as he crooked his fingers inside you. You couldn't believe you were aroused at all. He was stealing from you a moment ago, for God's sake. But you couldn't help it. He was handsome and so gentle with you, the opposite of what you had thought he would be. "Please, sir..." you moaned softly as that oh-so familiar pressure built up inside you.
"Mierda, you're easy, aren't you? I've barely even touched you," he admonished you, pumping his fingers faster.
He had you coming on him fingers in seconds, moaning loudly into the quiet of your room. "There you go, cariña..."
"Sir," you whined after you came down from your high. "Fuck me."
"Needy," he chuckled. "Thought you were afraid of me?" he asked as he slid down his pants, revealing everything the cloth was hiding, and wow, it was hiding a lot. There wasn't anything particularly remarkable about his dick, but it looked incredible, hard and leaking precum.
"I am." You really were. You just also happened to be incredibly turned on, and his cock standing at attention in front of you wasn't helping.
He hummed and notched his tip at your entrance, slowly pushing into you. "But you like it." He said it like it was a fact. And it was. You did like it.
You gasped at the intrusion, grasping at his shoulders as he slid into you. "Ohhh, fuck-" you moaned.
The man hissed above you, fisting his hands into the sheets. "Oh, mierda, that's good." He began thrusting into you, setting a slow pace that quickly gained speed as you got acquainted with the feeling of him inside of you.
"More," you whined, rolling your hips to meet his thrusts, pushing him deeper. "More, sir, please..."
He snaked one hand between your bodies, reaching to play with your clit. His fingers rubbing circles into the sensitive bud had you reeling, unable to focus on anything other than the pleasure rapidly building in you.
"You close?" he rasped, rubbing your clit faster as his thrusts grew erratic. "Want you to come with me, can ya do that, hermosa?"
You nodded, gasping as he speared you on his dick over and over again. "Mhmm."
A moment later he was spilling inside of you with a loud groan, and the feeling of him filling you up was what pushed you over the edge. You came hard, searing waves of pleasure running through your trembling body.
"Bruno..." you sighed as he collapsed on top of you. "Holy fuck."
"I know," he laughed breathlessly, pulling out of you and rolling onto his back.
You turned to him, resting an arm across his stomach. "Happy anniversary, Bruno."
"Happy anniversary, cariña."

I made this for an Encanto secret santa. Glad my kid enjoyed their gift ^.^ you can read the attached short story below the cut.
︵‿୨ - February 14 1912 - ୧‿︵
The hike up the steep mountainside was more exhausting in the rain. Slogging through the thick sticky mud that grew deeper the higher Bruno climbed. The closer he got to the source of the storm. Bruno spotted Pepa’s ruffled yellow dress peaking out against the murky landscape. The winds whipping the bright fabric about like a flag. Contrasted against the murky shadow the clouds coated across the lush greenery. Washing out all color save for that bright yellow dress. Soggy and miserable as it looked.
“Can I sit?” Bruno carefully approached the small splash of sorry color sitting alone in the sea of sullen browns, greys, and blues. He pointed innocently to the patch of muddy ground next to his sister.
Pepa looked up at Bruno with the fattest pout. The rain blended with the tears that streamed down flushed red cheeks. Indistinguishable from each other. Green eyes narrowed before looking away. Pepa scooted an inch to the side to make space on her little patch of mud. Bruno sat down beside her. The ground squelching unpleasantly through his trousers. The wind blew Bruno’s hood about but he didn’t bother trying to keep it on his head. There wasn’t much point. He was already soaked clear through to the bone and had been for a while. From up here, the two siblings could watch the wild tears stream down the mountainside and into town. Occasionally a stray neighbor would step outside to brave the storm. They looked like ants. Scurrying wildly about the empty streets to dodge the rain.
“Julieta’s talking to Mamá right now.” Bruno stated awkwardly. Unsure how to make conversation. He knew Pepa didn’t want to talk, but Bruno figured she might feel better if they did.
He didn’t have much reasoning behind the conjecture. After all, he was the one who caused this storm. Him and his big mouth. His bad luck. Bruno had a habit of making most things worse. He knew Pepa was upset but in her moment of stunned silence, he made the rookie mistake of trying to lighten the mood with a joke. He was stupid. He knew that, but then again… things couldn’t get much worse than they were now. He still wanted to help. Even if he wasn’t very good at it.
“Good for her.” Pepa huffed.
“Mamá’s pretty mad.” Bruno observed. He pulled his poncho over his lap and watched the water collect before wringing it out tightly in his grip. Not that it mattered. He’d stretch it back out again to watch another puddle form.
“Mamá’s always mad.” Pepa spat back in frustration.
“That’s not true.” Bruno countered meekly. Wringing more water out of his poncho. “She’s never mad at Julieta.”
“At us Bruno!” Pepa snapped. Furrowing her brow in frustration at her brother.
Bruno said another stupid thing. Of course he did. “Correcto, porque somos los jodidos.” He replied simply. Not sad or resentful. Just a statement of fact. One he knew Pepa was just as self-aware of as he was.
They both knew they were the problem children. Pepa because her emotions always got the better of her and Bruno? Well… what wasn’t wrong with Bruno? He couldn’t exactly explain what the problem was. He couldn’t answer that question if he tried. He just knew he was wrong. Everything he did or said. He was strange. Stupid. Bad luck…
“Ajá.” Pepa sighed in resignation.
Bruno was just stating the obvious again.
Bruno tucked quietly under his poncho. Wrapping it tight over his knees and resting his chin on the flat surface the tent created. His rat Lupita squirmed up to his collar to poke her head out. The little doe sensed the tension in the air as the deafening silence settled between the two siblings. The storm was loud and raging around them, despite Pepa’s still silence.
“Estoy bien mija.” Bruno soothed to his furry little friend. Petting her sopping wet fur between the ears. He liked talking to his rats like this. When he talked to them he could pretend to be a grown-up. That was always nice. He somehow had a feeling he would never get to be a grown-up for real. He couldn’t explain why. It was just a feeling.
“Puaj, puf, puf, puf, puf, puf!” Pepa suddenly shrieked. Scrambling back away from Bruno. The thick mud staining the little yellow dress that stuck out against the storm. Smothering that little spark of color. “You brought one of your rats?!”
“It’s just Lupita.” Bruno defended. Plucking the small doe from his shoulder and cupping her protectively in his hands. “She’s nice. She was worried about you and wanted to come make sure you were ok.”
“It’s all soggy and smelly!” Pepa whined. She shuttering and squirming as she leaned as far from Bruno as she could without getting up.
“But she’s so nice.” Bruno protested. Holding up the dripping little doe to show his sister. Showing off Lupita’s bright beady eyes.
“Ay!” Pepa shrieked as Bruno shoved the rat into her face. Flailing and trying to shove it away. Lupita began to panic and squirm in Bruno’s hands. Attempting to flee Pepa’s shrieking. A bolt of lightning zapped the ground next to Bruno and made him jump. Barely dodging a very painful strike.
“Just hold the rat!” Bruno demanded irritably.
“I’m not holding that thing!” Pepa yelled back over the howling winds. “It’s gonna bite me!”
Bruno huffed and puffed up his cheeks. He filled his lungs with air and gathered his courage before grabbing Pepa by her arm and forcing Lupita into her hands. “Ahí, ves?” Bruno challenged. Pepa kept squirming but Bruno held her hands clasped over Lupita. The frightened little doe curled up and shook in their hands. “She’s not gonna bite. Just hold her, you’ll feel better.” He insisted.
Pepa anxiously sucked in her lips. Her shoulders bunched up around her neck. Slowly she opened one eye and looked down. She gradually relaxed as she looked at the caged little creature in their hands. Trembling and sweet. Not an ounce of malice in Lupita’s tiny body.
“Feeling better?” Bruno asked softly. Watching Pepa slowly unwind. Bruno’s chest swelled with a sense of pride. He loved his rats. Knew just how sweet they were. How good they felt to hold. Bruno slowly loosened his grip on the girls and guided Pepa’s hands till she was holding Lupita comfortably. The little wet rat continued to shake for a bit before finally looking up at Pepa with wide pleading eyes.
Pepa sniffled and the wind gradually slowed around them. “She’s warm.”  She muttered softly.
“And soft.” Bruno chirped with pride.
Pepa nodded slowly before her puffy red cheeks began to swell. Her eyes welled up as she stared back down at Lupita. Broken wailing sobs escaped her, rattling her delicate frame.
Bruno’s heart lurched up into his throat. Panic setting in with the fresh wave of icy cold downpour that soaked him to the bone. “Oh, oh no, Pepa, don’t cry, I didn’t mean to…” Bruno rushed to try and hold his sister but couldn’t find an opening through the cracks of lighting and harsh winds.
“He said he dumped me 'cause I’m crazy.” Pepa sobbed.
“You’re not crazy!” Bruno scolded sternly. Shouting over the rain.
Angry tears continued to pour over Pepa’s flushed face. She sucked in a few sharp wheezing breaths before choking out her words. “I feel crazy.” She hugged Lupita to her chest and sobbed into her sopping wet pelt. “No matter how hard I try… It always rains…”
Pepa’s words dug into Bruno’s chest like a knife. They struck at something, at feelings he didn’t know how to put words yet. He knew Pepa wasn’t the crazy one. She didn’t deserve to feel like that.
“You’re not crazy.” Bruno mumbled as the howling winds died down again. The rain falling straight down like a bucket dumped onto the mountainside. Weighing Pepa’s hair and clothes down like lead. Bruno pulled Pepa close and hugged her. Resting her head on his shoulder. “You’re just a kid.” He told her. “It’s okay to be sad. It’s not your fault.”
Pepa sobbed into her brother’s neck. For a while, it was all she could do. Just sniffle and grieve. Exhausted and sad and broken. “I tried so hard.” She whimpered.
“I know you did.” Bruno replied softly.
“I was going to be the best novia ever.” Pepa grieved. “We were going to get married someday.”
Bruno winced and tilted his head. “Well… I mean, I knew that wasn’t gonna happen.” He replied.
Pepa shoved him back with one hand. Lupita still perched in the other. “You knew he was going to dump me this whole time and you didn’t say anything?”
“Oh, no,” Bruno held up his hands in submission. Shrinking back before he risked getting zapped. “I didn’t know what was going to happen I just, like, your baby, in the future, I knew they weren’t his.” Bruno told her. “I don’t know who you’re supposed to marry but I saw your daughter once in a vision.”
Pepa grew quiet and hugged Lupita again. The tired stressed little rat looked like she was growing impatient with being squished but made no effort to escape her grip. “Could you uhm…” Pepa looked away and tugged at her limp braid with one hand. “Could you see who my husband is? Maybe then I won’t have to waste my time…”
Bruno quickly shook his head. He immediately knew how that would go. A deep pit in his gut told him if he tried to it would only make life harder for his sister. “I don’t think that’s a good idea Pepa. What if I jinx it? What if I see you with someone terrible and ugly and then you're stuck with him?” Bruno challenged.
Pepa sighed. Her shoulders sagging. “I guess you’re right…” She conceded. She turned away to stare aimlessly back down the muddy slope at the town. Petting Lupita in her lap. “Mamá says real women don’t get their heart broken over stupid little boys.” She pouted softly.
Mamá was always telling them what it meant to be a grown-up. All the things they had to do and be. None of it sounded very fun. Most of it sounded impossible to Bruno. He wasn’t sure he would ever be a real man. He didn’t know how to be, and seeing the future didn’t make the answers any clearer.
Bruno curled up and hugged his knees. Staring down at the town again. “I wouldn’t know anything about that.” He admitted. Manhood was already hard enough to wrap his head around. He couldn’t begin to figure out being a woman. “I’m pretty sure Mamá thinks I’m a stupid little boy.” He chuckled awkwardly and quacked out of the side of his mouth. “So I guess you better not let me break your heart.” He teased. Turning to look back at his sister. “Then we’ll both be in trouble and I won’t even be able to help cause you’ll be too mad at me.”
Pepa let out a little snort that turned into a laugh. One laugh turned into two, before devolving into more tears again. Her genuine smile a brief flash of light that was quickly snuffed out by a fresh wave of pain. “Dios mío, duele tanto.” She wept. Overwhelmed by a pain Bruno had yet to know.
“Lo siento.” Bruno replied softly. “I don’t know how to make it better.” He looked down at his feet and hugged his knees. His hair clinging to his face and forming thick black curtains over his eyes. He could just see his toes soaking into the mud between the clumps of black. The gentle sound of his sister’s cries just barely audible over the fat lazy raindrops plopping against the ground.
Bruno’s eyes scanned over the mud. Counting the raindrops. Eventually, his gaze landed on a long sturdy branch with a fork at the end. He perked up and squinted at the stick for a moment. A thought occurring to him. Pepa looked up at him curiously as Bruno got up to pick up the stick. He didn’t mind Pepa’s stares. She’d understand in just a moment. Bruno scurried about the slippery hillside and surrounding woods looking for the right sort of branches. It took some searching but he found another similarly forked branch and broke a bit off the end to make them the same length. More sticks, some large fronds that had been knocked from the towering wax palms by the storm.
“What are you doing?” Pepa narrowed her eyes at Bruno skeptically as he approached with his bundle of waterlogged kindling.
“Helping.” Bruno replied simply.
Bruno dug a couple of holes in the mud on either side of Pepa and wedged his forked branches into them. Drilling them down into the ground and caking the base in mud till it was enough to hold them upright. Another branch draped between the two pillars. Its ends woven into the forks. Once he did so he laid a few other branches he’d stripped of any straggly bits diagonally from the ground to the top branch. He layered palm fronds over the frame he’d created till he’d built a decently solid little lean-to. The walls of packed leaves caught the rain as it fell and offered Pepa a small shelter.
Bruno could feel Pepa’s eyes burning holes into him as he came to sit back down beside her under the palm fronds. “En serio?” She chuckled softly.
Bruno shrugged. “What? I made a shelter. Now you won’t get rained on.”
Pepa laughed again. A bit more genuine this time. “And? We’re both drenched. What does it matter? We’re still wet.”
“Sí.” Bruno replied simply. “But now we’re a little less wet.” He reasoned. Hugging his knees and listening to the rain hit the leaves and slide off. “I figure that’s still better.”
“Sí, creo que sí.” Pepa replied softly. She flopped sideways, resting her head on Bruno’s shoulder. Lupita looked up at Bruno pleadingly from her perch in Pepa’s hands. Pepa didn’t really know how to hold a rat right but Lupita was doing her best to be patient. Bruno was considering taking his rat back when the next words out of Pepa’s mouth took him by surprise and disrupted his thoughts.
“Gracias Bruno.” Pepa sighed. Closing her eyes and listening to the sound of the rain.
“De nada.” Bruno assured her. Resting his cheek on top of her head.

What about a darling who had a quirk that was affected by her emotions like if she gets mad she might just burn the house down or if she is sad it will start to rain something like pepa's gift.(Hawks,Shoto,Bakugou) please (≧▽≦)
Okay ngl I didn’t know what pepa’s gift was (haven’t watched Encanto and I think that’s what it’s from) but I looked it up and I incorporated it in to the best of my ability!
Pairings: Hawks x Reader; Shoto x Reader; Bakugou x Reader
WARNINGS: Yandere themes, bullying, imagine if reader accidentally killed them when angry lmao win-win
Summary: Your quirk is affected by your emotions. How will your yanderes deal with that?
Notes: These are separate headcanons for each of the 3 characters.
Tumblr media
TAKAMI KEIGO (HAWKS)
Hawks first notices you when he’s out patrolling the streets. The sky is as sunny as your smile and he simply returns a grin, checking you out a little while doing so.
It’s not until the next day that he really notices you, though.
It’s storming so hard that he’s having trouble flying- but only in an isolated part of the city. Everywhere else is calm, so it must be someone’s quirk, he thinks.
When he flies into the heart of the storm, he expects to see a villain. Instead, he finds you, sobbing into your hands and curled up on the dirty cement.
You cheer up immediately when you see him, a famous pro hero, and the storm clears almost immediately. Sun peaks through the dark clouds until they cease to exist, all because of him.
He’s honestly flattered. More than flattered, really. It’s almost addictive, the knowledge that he’s the one that calmed your storm.
You tell him about the villains that held you at gunpoint and stole your purse and he’s so seething mad that he’s surprised a storm hasn’t appeared over his head.
He’s rougher than he needs to be when he catches the villains. They’re in rougher shape than usual when he hands them off to his sidekicks.
He goes back to check on you, see the look on your face when he hands you back your purse and tells you that those villains won’t be bothering you again. You’re smiling so brightly that it makes his knees weak.
You don’t leave your house often, but when you do, he’s your eye in the sky. He even blows off some of his scheduled patrols to watch over you.
Every time that something is off with you- be it a lightning storm or just a slight sprinkle of rain, he feels a need to know just what it is that upset you, and to somehow fix it and bring the sun back into your life.
He wants to be your sunshine, the constant factor to keep that beautiful smile on your face and the clouds far away.
He begins to feel jealous that others make you happy. Angry that you have friends. Furious when someone flirts with you.
He’ll keep trying to make you happy and do his best to drive others off without upsetting you.
After all, he’ll always know how you’re feeling just by looking at you.
Tumblr media
TODOROKI SHOTO
When Shoto first met you, he thought you had a fire quirk. After all, you were quite literally burning with righteous fury.
It took a long time of observation for Shoto to realize that you weren’t some secret long-lost Todoroki child and that your quirk was something else entirely.
He watched as you cried literal rivers when you were sad, turned fire engine red across your entire body when you were embarrassed (even your clothes turned red!), and, yes, created tall flames whenever you were angry.
Somehow, he felt like he could relate with you a little, when you had a quirk related to fire, but there was one thing he couldn’t match.
You were so expressive.
Not just quirk-wise, no. Your facial expressions and body language always matched whatever your quirk was doing, and Shoto almost wished he could do the same.
But he was awkward, had trouble expressing his emotions. The only emotion he expressed well was anger, and that’s the emotion that gave you fire.
A connection, perhaps?
Fate?
Shoto longs to grow closer to you, but he settles for watching you every time he’s home. After all, you are his neighbor.
He likes to see your fury fire a little too much. Maybe that’s why he’s always instigating issues with you.
Sneaking into your house and stealing things he knows you’ll need just to see frustrated flames spread up your back while you tear your home apart looking for it.
Throwing things into your yard to watch your hair light up as you angrily snatched the trash off the grass, muttering about “stupid litterers”.
It’s not right for him to enjoy seeing you with a negative emotion so much, but he can’t help it. A sick part of him feels like he can relate most this way.
And Shoto just can’t stop himself.
Tumblr media
BAKUGOU KATSUKI
You were always a sight to behold when you were feeling any way other than neutral.
Bakugou liked all of your emotions, if he were to be honest to himself for once. He would never admit that aloud, of course.
You glow brighter than the sun when happy, nearly blinding him with your otherworldly beauty.
You burst into flames when you’re angry, the flames always lighting up your features in the most flattering of ways.
And when you were sad? You cried fountains of water while you drooped like a wilting flower, shrinking a little and looking frailer than ever before.
Would you believe that sadness was Bakugou’s favorite of your emotions?
Sure, you were beautiful when happy and got him pumped up when angry, but when you were sad?
He just wants to scoop you up in his muscular arms and feel your now-tiny form in his own.
He wants to wipe your tears away until they trickled off and no longer spouted wildly from the corners of your eyes.
He wanted to cheer you up a little, to watch you turn from a wilted little flower into a lightly-glowing, sheepishly-giggling mess.
He likes your sadness so much that he finds himself saying terrible things to you, just to watch that transformation.
He feels guilty after saying and doing awful things, to be the cause for your sadness.
But to see you shivering and sobbing below him?
Worth it every time.

Thoughts Upon Reading The Wish Novelization
I still haven't watched Wish yet, but I've read the novelization, and here's my thoughts about it. Because I am the kind of person who wonders about random background unimportant details and asks way too many questions about how things work. I've noticed that I'm not a very good companion to watch a movie with. ;)
Asha's grandfather is one hundred. She is seventeen, meaning he was eighty-three when she was born (give or take a year).
To compare, take the Madrigals from Encanto. Isabela and Dolores are 21; their grandmother is 75.
So wouldn't Sabino be kind of too old? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to be Asha's great-grandfather instead? Or did Asha's parents and/or grandparents get married late or something?
Also is Sabino her mother's father or father's father?
Never mind, it says on the wiki that he's Asha's father's father. So that answers that. Also that Asha's father's name was Tomas.
And now the wishes! Okay, so everybody gives up their wish when they turn eighteen. Why eighteen? In the medieval period in Spain the age of adulthood was not eighteen. The medieval period anywhere, really. I read that in Spain people were considered under their parents' jurisdiction until the age of twenty-three for men and twenty-five for women, unless married (which applied to both men and women). Most certainly not eighteen. Then again they weren't going to make the main characters in their twenties. But then they might as well have just had the age be sixteen or whatever.
And then you just...forget your wish? What's the point of that, then? Why would you want it to be granted? If you don't remember it anymore you have no desire for it anymore.
And the wish ceremony is only once in a lifetime, but what if your wish changes? What you wish for at eighteen is probably a lot different from what you wish for at forty.
What if by the time your wish is granted you don't want it anymore? After all, you moved on because you had no memory of wanting it!
Like that lady who wanted to create the best dresses. Why would she want to create them? Presumably that was her job. Maybe she's a seamstress from a family of seamstresses. Or something. But then her wish to create the best dresses is taken from her and she has no memory of ever wanting to make them. She has no desire or drive to at all. So she becomes something else. She does a different job. Maybe she becomes a baker or something. Then all of a sudden she's granted the ability to make the best dresses, after years and years of doing something else because she had no desire to create dresses anymore. Now what?
And there was that one wish of someone holding a baby. Presumably the wisher wished for a child. Does that mean the wisher will remain infertile until and unless Magnifico grants the wish? And how would that work anyway? Would a baby just appear out of nothing onstage?
And Sabino's wish. It seems that his wish was to create music with his lute. It would've been a lot simpler if his wish had been worded that way instead of "create something to inspire future generations." Magnifico was actually right that ideas can be dangerous. Of course, Sabino would never hurt anyone, but the people he inspires might, or the people they inspire might, and so on and so forth. For all Magnifico knows, Sabino's inspiration is a rebellion or something, instead of simply music.
And now Magnifico. A name like Magnifico is a bit on the nose, no? I assume that was not his original name. Maybe he renamed himself after gaining magic. A magnificent name for a magnificent sorcerer king!
He was not born a magician. It says that when he was young his family was attacked and he didn't have magic then. Where did he get magic from then?
And I'd like to know a bit more about this "great loss" he suffered, wouldn't you?
He founded Rosas. Why did he pick the name Rosas then? Isn't the way these things usually work is naming the kingdom or city or whatever after some derivative of his name?
And what exactly does the king's apprentice do? Apprentice to a sorcerer, but there weren't any other sorcerer's around in Rosas, were there? What happened to the other apprentices, and if you've ever read the Wings of Fire series I'm worrying that the same thing that happened to the dragonmancer apprentices in that series happens here. (Spoiler: They died.)
And Amaya, the queen, knows exactly who Asha is. Alright so it makes sense that she'd know the name of whoever was applying to be the next apprentice. Also I thought it was so sweet that she was giving Asha advice.
But apparently she's been watching Asha and knows how she acts and feels and so on. She's the queen and Asha is a random person in Rosas. I get the feeling it's a pretty small kingdom. It must be, though, for everybody to be able to gather once a month. Probably that one town is basically the whole kingdom.
Also I wonder whatever happened with that poor guy who had the interview right before Asha.
And Magnifico seemed to trust Asha very quickly and then revealed his true motives to her also very quickly. Did he think she would agree with him but drastically misread her intentions?
You know a lot of the wishes could have been fulfilled on their own. Like Simon's wish was to be a loyal guard. He could have fulfilled that wish by.....joining up with the king's guards and training with them and becoming one of them. Obviously he's already loyal if he wants to become a guard in the first place.
And I want to know how Amaya and Magnifico met! I want to know more about them in general!
My guess is that they met and married only after Magnifico became king because she constantly calls him mi rey.
Although on the other hand maybe they were married before that and she calls him that because she's so proud that he became king.
Also you'd think Amaya would have had some questions after Asha's interview. Like "if Asha isn't being your next apprentice why did you want her to sit with me then."
And it seems that that weird green forbidden magic changed Magnifico. He could be reasoned with, before. But afterwards he threatened Amaya. I thought he truly loved her, but he was willing to hurt her with magic. I think the magic changed him, made him worse. And once you embrace it, there's no going back....
But Amaya seems to accept evil Magnifico with surprising ease. Once she sees that apparently it's impossible to undo the magic's influence she just...accepts it. Like you'd think she'd try to talk to him or something. Like even after he's in the mirror you'd think that she'd try to talk to him and ask him what he was thinking and see if he knows of any way to undo the forbidden magic now that he can't harm anyone else. But nope.
I did think that part was kind of funny, though. She's like "Well you do love mirrors!" She's seen quite enough of him staring into mirrors and preening over how handsome he is.....
But also Asha figured out that the queen was on her side and would go against her own husband just from seeing how changed she looked after realizing what Maginifco was doing? Aren't queens, like, trained never to let their true emotions show in public?
Also random but Magnifico says he granted fourteen wishes last year but he grants wishes once a month. What are the extra wishes?
Maybe, in addition to the monthly granting, sometimes he grants an extra wish on notable occasions, like the anniversary of the kingdom’s founding and holidays and so on. Which might be why everyone expected Sabino's wish to be granted - he was surely the oldest one there, and a 100th birthday is indeed an occasion.
And also why is sixteen year old Dahlia working in the palace kitchen? Is she apprenticing to someone? Do her parents work there?
Also I think it's funny how half the kingdom has a crush on Magnifico despite him already being married. Like Amaya is literally right there.
He was not born a magician. It says that when he was young his family was attacked and he didn't have magic then. Where did he get magic from then?
And then the ending with Asha being a fairy godmother. Crossovers aside, I don’t care about that, and I want an answer that is not bashing the movie, please, why did they word it that way? Why did Asha's friends say she should be their fairy godmother as opposed to "You'll help us all fulfill our wishes" or "you'll grant everyone their wishes" or so on? Asha is very much a human, not a fairy at all. and it's not her magic, it's the star’s magic.
So the fact that they specify fairy godmother implies that fairy godmothers already exist in the universe of Rosas. Which is maybe a clue as to where Magnifico got his magic from.
Back to Magnifico I wondered why he didn't immediately suspect that the light was Asha.
Although I thought it was funny how everybody was cheering the light and he was like "No, it wasn't me, it's a traitor!"
Like somebody figures out his true colors, he reveals his true motives (didn't he worry she would do something or tell people?) and then literally that night somebody's meddling with magic. He didn't suspect her?
When Magnifico and his guards showed up at her house I thought he'd finally come to that conclusion. But then it turned out Simon told him.
Also how did they escape on the king's horses? They're unfamiliar to the horses and likely have less experience riding. Shouldn't the horses reject them in favor of their own riders, or at least be slower and confused? Like it should have taken them longer to get the horses to trust them and let them ride them.
And Magnifico kind of doomed himself in the end. Overnight he went from a beloved wishgranting king to one trying to destroy all of them and blot out the stars. Made it pretty easy for the population to celebrate his defeat. As opposed to what he had until then, which was the word of one random teenager against him.
Especially considering his wife was against him! That definitely convinced a lot of people. Amaya seems pretty popular.
I wonder what the everyday people were thinking. One day out of the blue there's a traitor, who seemed like a nice ordinary girl but she meddled with magic which the king says is illegal and he's the king so his word goes. Then the king starts doing creepy magic and people's wishes start being destroyed and he tries to kill Asha.
Also does Bazeema have a crush on Gabo or something? She kept popping up right next to him.
And I wonder what Asha's mother's wish was.
Also Magnico states that he doesn't even charge his people rent. But how does that even work? Every kingdom and country in history has charged taxes. You need money for a kingdom to function. Basic. How does Magnifico pay his guards, then? Pay his servants?
Maybe he uses wishes as payment. Like with his guards, maybe they have to work for X amount of years and then he grants their wishes. Plus while they’re working for him they get food and a place to live and so on. Magnifico using wishes as payment wouldn’t completely solve the money question, but it would go some way too.
Also, the fact that Magnifico didn’t charge rent, nor presumably any other form of taxes, suggests that he really really wanted people to live there, to the point of forgoing any money he could make from them, so he could have their wishes….
Also say what you will about the ending but I think it could actually make sense for Magnifico in the mirror to be the Evil Queen's mirror. So they didn't destroy this mirror, right? It stayed in the palace. It's still there for the next generation of rulers, and the next. It gets handed down throughout the centuries and eventually they forgot the story behind it; they just know that their family has a magic mirror that can tell them anything. Because he has magic and can use it to find out anything. Now Rosas is in Spain and I think Snow White is in Germany but this could work. Back in the day royal families from different countries married each other all the time to create alliances. So somebody from the royal family of Rosas married Snow White's ancestor and brought the mirror along. And the mirror was passed down through a few more generations until it came to the Evil Queen. The Evil Queen was royalty by marriage, so the mirror could have belonged to her husband. It could have already been in the palace when she came.
Also I was thinking! Magnifico's changed green magic that turned Simon evil! Isn't that sort of like what happened to Magnifico in the first place?
And I also want to know how long ago Magnifico founded Rosas. It must be pretty recent; it's still a very small kingdom. This is probably why he's so eager for people to visit and move there.
Sabino is 100 years old; presumably he moved to Rosas in his lifetime and wasn't born there? Maybe he knows about how it was founded and so on.
Imagine being older than the kingdom you live in! Quite an accomplishment! (Most kingdoms aren't new, so....)
So Magnifico can grant literally any wish, which he uses to encourage people to live there. Okay but this is literally any wish. Maybe this is another reason why people are coming to Rosas! They want their wishes granted! Literally any wish! Never mind the wishes to fly or swim or whatever! Where are the wishes for things like endless wealth or to be king, things which people have most certainly wished for over the centuries? Where are the desperate people traveling to move to Rosas to get their wish fulfilled? Where are the wishes like "I wish my dead brother was alive" and "I wish my fatally ill wife was cured of her illness" and "I wish my son who got run over by a cart last month was completely healed?"

I haven't written Encanto fic in a minute, huh? Anyway I banged this out in half an hour to stop me killing my co-workers, enjoy!
Tumblr media
One of the girls was passing it around in the back of church. This silly little folded paper star; you picked a number and a colour and it told your fortune. "You'll marry a rich man," Sofia Quintero whispered, to a chorus of giggles. "Pepa; do you want to try?"
Pepa Madrigal tossed her shiny auburn curls over one shoulder. "No thanks," she said haughtily. "I don't need toys to tell me my future. I can see it whenever I like."
"Pleeeeease Bruno!"
Pepa hung on the end of her brother's ruana as he stomped from room to room. "Please let me see. It's important! I can't let Sofia Quintero and her stupid piece of paper win."
Bruno ignored her.
"I'll do your chores for a week?"
He paused; just for a second, but Pepa noticed. Pepa always noticed. To everyone else, her brother was as hard to read as still water; to her, it was nothing at all.
"Please?" she begged. "Please. Please please please please pleeeeee--"
"Alright, alright!" Bruno stamped his foot, sandal slapping on the tile. "Jeez, Pep; what does it matter anyways?"
Pepa's face darkened. "It. Matters. You're a boy; you don't get it."
"Bruno's shoulders slumped. He didn't think it had anything to do with being a boy. But there was no arguing with Pepa when she got like this. "Ugh. Go get Juli. Might as well make it a party."
And a party it was; Juli smuggled snacks up to Bruno's room after bedtime and Pepa brought some blankets and stuffed animals from her room. They hadn't had a sleepover in Bruno's room in years.
"Ooooooooh!" Juli crowed as, in hues of green, an older version of Pepa was dipped by a handsome, dark-skinned man. "Oooooooooooh, Pepa, he's handsome!"
"I know," Pepa simpered; gracious and faux-humble, like she'd won a prestigious award. "I know."
Bruno wrinkled his nose as the man closed the distance between his lips and Older-Pepa's. "D'we have to watch the kiss?"
"YES!"
"Okay, okay, fine."
"Do me next," said Julieta, leaping onto Bruno's back and shaking his shoulders. "Me next, me next! I want to see my true love, Bruno!" She sighed dramamtically, her eyes going wide and dreamy. "I bet he's strong and graceful and a little bit bad. Not bad-bad, but just...bad enough. You know?"
Bruno had no idea.
Sand fell all around them as the vision ended. "Okay, Bruno sighed, handing the tablet to Pepa without even glancing her way. She squealed happily and kissed her future husband's glass cheek in delight. "Gimme one'a those arepas first. Gotta get my strength back. I'm fourteen, yanno. No spring chicken."
"Thank you Brunito."
"You're welcome, Oven Girl. Glad I'm here for you two to - to exploit."
"Bruno!"
"Don't make us feel bad; that's not fair!"
"S'okay, I'll accept payment in baked goods. Lucky for you."
As much as he complained, Bruno relished the time with his sisters. It was a memory he often looked back on fondly as they grew up, especially as the girls started courting and fell in love. It was nice to see their lives unfolding like that; like the end of the story written just under a folded piece of paper, out of sight for everyone else but them.
So when Dolores came to him - nine years old, shyly tugging on the hem of his ruana - and started talking bout one of her little playmates using some fortune telling game in school that day, he chuckled softly under his breath. "Sure, kiddo," he said, hoisting his sobrina onto his shoulders. "C'mon. Let's go see your husband, huh?"

Headcannons I have for the 2012 TMNT brothers
Warnings: none
Some of these things might contradict some small things in the plot, I've been rewatching as much as I can of this show and some of my knowledge of the show also comes from when I was younger and watched the show
Tags: Tiny bits of Angst, Fluff, Brotherly Bonding, No Beta-we die like Master Splinter,
Leonardo
He only drinks water and tea, man's never had any soda or anything in his life, claims it's "unhealthy" and "would ruin his physice"
He doesn't take many breaks, so his brothers have to either convince him or force him to rest or relax, he always protests but he's grateful for his brothers
He only listens to traditional Japanese music or Rock music, no in-between
Can't get through the day without making atleast one Space Hero's reference (can't remember the name of the show)
Feels guilty about every unsuccessful mission, even if it's not his fault
He has a tendency of waking up in the middle of the night to check on his brothers, with all the nightmares and guys they have to fight, he gets concerned about what may happen, so he checks on them alot
Dude feels like absolute SHIT when he gets yelled at by shredder, wether it be his own fault or the team's fault, he just feels like he should have been better and he sulks in his room everytime
Sometimes he likes to listen to Donnie, sometimes he understands what he's talking about (if Donnie dumbs it down a bit), he does like to hear about what new things he's made to benefit the team
Every so often, he likes to help Mikey plan a prank on Ralph just for the hell of it, and it's even funnier because Mikey always gets the blame
Sometimes when he sleeps, he likes to be in his shell, there isn't any reason, he just feels safe in there
Most of his brothers are pretty good at speaking Japanese, he is pretty much fluent in it
He knows sign language, he got bored one day and decided to learn it, he tells himself that if there is anyone with a hearing or speaking disability or anything like that, that he'll be ready and prepared to help them
He always thinks of others before himself, even if it costs him
He has a bunch of quotes taped up on his walls, some are kinda cringe, but some are actually pretty dang good quotes
One song he related to alot is "No Pressure" from Encanto, you'll never guess why
Raphael
He gets nightmares alot more than his brothers, only Leo and Master Splinter know about it
He tried to get into Leo's Space Hero's show, but he got to annoyed at the nervous side character and gave up trying
He made Spike a little skull helmet out of cardboard once to "protect him" (even tho he has a shell) but once Mikey discovered it, he accidentally broke it, Raph has never let him live it down
He's got undiagnosed Bipolar disorder, this often makes him feel so confused about his emotions and he often hates how he's feeling because he doesn't understand why he's feeling that way
As much as he didn't trust Leatheface, he related to him alot, having an anger you can't control
Raph has had many nightmares of his anger getting in the way of him protecting his brothers and it scares him all the time, Master Splinter often has to comfort him and remind him that if he was fully in control of himself, he wouldn't hurt his brothers, angry or not
He wishes he could get a tattoo, but he knows that it would get him an ass whooping, still, if he were allowed to, he would have gotten one of him and Spike on a motorcycle on fire with sunglasses or something
Raph has shitty eyesight, it's one of the reasons he's always squinting (plus the fact he's mostly angry) but he can never find actual glasses with the right prescription in any sewer, or any glasses for that matter, Splinter knows all about this and has trained him extra to help him with this disadvantage
Sometimes he feels bad for hitting Mikey, but only when he realizes that he's hurt him more then he thought, this often leads him to making it up to him in small ways, like, watching him do something dumb, or trying some of his horrible food, he rarely apologizes, so this is his way of apologizing without saying it aloud
Has a problem with misplacing his sais (his weapons) and this often leads him to basically tearing the house apart to look for them...only for Master Splinter to show him where there are (and they were right Infront of him the whole time)
He's super insecure about the fact he's the second shortest turtle, but he won't tell his brothers or else he knows they will make fun of him, but his brothers already know he's insecure about that, they just don't want to get their ass whooped by Ralph
His brothers like to joke that he never had a rebellious phase, but that he was born a rebellious phase
His favorite color isn't actually red, it's actually silver, but his second favorite color is red, he knew he wouldn't be able to get a silver bandana, so he just went with red
Donatello
He hates the nickname "Don" it kinda sounds weird to him and when his brothers call him that, he cringes on the inside
He's got Undiagnosed OCD, he constantly does little things (like flickering the lights up and down, or tapping on things a certain amount of time, washing his hands a bunch, ect ect) because it makes his mind feel at ease
Because of his OCD, he has alot of intrusive thoughts about dangers that might come to him and his family, which also brings him many nightmares, which is another reason he does alot of the little "rituals" as his brothers like to call them
Dude is VERY superstitious, tends to avoid going under ladders, using an umbrella indoors, and other things, he knows it's silly, but his mind feels alot better when he avoids these things
He likes to read human biology books because he's so fascinated by the human body and how it works
He got his tooth gap when he was first practicing the bo staff, he was trying to make it spin really fast, and it hit him straight in the face, right where he got his first grown up tooth, poor guy
He's the most flexible of the turtles, the others don't know this cause he doesn't like to show off
He strangely enjoys yoga, when he doesn't have any ideas of what to make, he'll do a couple poses with some calm music before he comes up with an idea
This man felt like he went to HEAVEN when he figured out about caffeine, it's really hard to get your hands on coffee when you live in the sewers, but he tries to find ways of getting some, or some kind of energy drink
He needs the caffeine, especially with how late he stays up, Master Splinter has said it's bad for him before, but he doesn't listen
He's terrified of being picked up by his face again, so he made a helmet specifically for his face....it broke within the first seconds of having it and his face got picked up and shaken like a rag doll again...
Michaelangelo
Undiagnosed ADHD
Due to his undiagnosed ADHD, people think he's dumb, but he can be pretty clever when he wants to
He has little freckles every where, and sometimes he likes to play connect the dots with them
He may seem dumb, but he's actually amazing at math, he doesn't see it as a problem and solution, he sees math as a pattern or a puzzle
He likes to put stickers on his shells sometimes when he finds stickers
When he tried some of Donnie's coffee, everyone thought he was gonna explode or be over hyper (even tho he's already over hyper), and they all tried to quarantine him away from them so he wouldn't break anything, but they were all super shocked to see that he mellowed out due to his Undiagnosed ADHD
Some of his stims include: swinging his nun-chucks in circles, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet, tapping in rhythms, making strange sounds or repeating small phrases, bouncing up and down, waving his arms all around, ect ect
He feels like he's the black sheep of the family since they all think differently than him, but alot of times, he tells himself it's cause he's so superior that they all can't catch up with him
Very confident and enthusiastic
He doesn't like tea, and calls it "dirty leaf water"
He uses his bandana like a napkin sometimes, so it has random stains in it that he can't get out
He's got dimples
He's very touch starved, he's so used to people bonking him on the head, that when he receives positive affection, he gets really happy
Whenever he gets overstimulated, he hides in his shell, his brothers think he's being lazy and sleeping, but sometimes Donnie or Master Splinter will bring him water or food, they don't understand why Mikey does this, but they do care for him and want to help
He absolutely hates the winter, it's to icy for skateboarding and he slips all the time
One of his dreams is to finally surf, but since he's a turtle, he can't, but he can have dreams
He's an amazing dancer and can dance to anything, he could even bust a move to Beethoven or the Nutcracker if he wanted to
He loves graffiti, sometimes when he finds old spray paint cans with some paint in them, he makes the most of them and uses it to make some of the coolest art you've ever seen
He unironically calls everyone 'bro' or 'dude' regardless of gender or species
He could talk all day about the ideas he has, they aren't very good ideas, but they're ideas
He doesn't know his lefts from his rights and often has to do the holding up the fingers thing, worst part of it is, sometimes he forgets which way an L is
He has terrible short term memory, but absolutely amazing long term memory, he can't tell you what he ate 2 seconds ago, but he can dang well tell you one of the storys Master Splinter read to him when he was super young
King of memes, constantly has a 'Boufa', 'updog', 'deez', or 'sugontheez' joke ready
He mumbles in his sleep and it's the funniest thing ever, he says just random shit, sometimes he doesn't even say coherent sentences
Once made a "that's what she said" joke, but he doesn't understand what it means and he said it at a time when it didn't make any sense
All of Them
They all have little tails
They are all box turtles without the markings
They all need therapy
They all need a hug
They all can and do go into their shells
They have all broken atleast 2 bones or more in their body
They all were homeschooled by Master Splinter

I hope you enjoyed this! 👾💜

do you have encanto fic recs? every time I watch encanto I think about how much potential there is for fic but then I never actually read any...I figure that you might be able to give me a place to start if I ever decide to make the plunge! thanks
That insane cackling you heard in the distance was me upon reading this ask. Um. Yes. Yes I do have many encanto fic recs and I’m so glad you asked! I’m limiting myself to 10 of my all time favorites. Should you choose to delve in I’d be happy to rec more. I tried to do a smattering of the types of fics I like.
Note, Bruno is my favorite character and as such most of these are Bruno-centric or he plays a major role.
The Sandman by @cthene Rated G 30K Complete
Bruno explores his Gift.
Just trust me on this one. It’s fantastic. I’ve literally reread it 5 times. If Bruno as a time wizard plus a really great look at the relationship between him and Mirabel sounds like your cup of tea I cannot recommend this one enough.
Nos Sigue la Noche (The Night Follows Us) by Thornvale Rated T 36K Complete
Post canon, Mirabel can’t help but feel as though something is going to go wrong; mysterious Tío Bruno is behaving more strangely than usual and something about the magic seems to be changing. Not only that, but an old danger is lurking in the shadows of the mountains surrounding the Encanto.
As they learn to see by @cannibalthoughts Rated T 67K WIP
Four and a half years after hiding in the walls, Bruno has an accident bad enough for Casita to call for help, and the family’s problems stop being ignorable.
aka: Bruno slips and knocks over about a dozen family crises on his way down.
I adore everything about this fic. Cannibalthoughts writes Bruno’s internal headspace SO WELL it’s the perfect blend of humor and angst.
a hair on the head of john the baptist by icarusinthesand Rated T 4.5K Complete
Unsettled in the new Casita, Bruno goes to the usual place wayward prophets seeking solace go.
This one leans into the fact that they’re all Catholic and explores how Bruno feels about being a prophet. Also has a fantastic conversation between him and Mirabel. This one has my whole heart and I’ve reread it many times.
A Prophet In His Own Land by @madrigaljail Rated T 33K Complete
Part of the Madrigal In-Laws Verse that flushes out Felix and Agustin’s families. I highly recommend everything in this series but Prophet is my favorite.
Growing up in the close-knit community of the Encanto, Bruno Madrigal is many things to many people: a dutiful and difficult son, a loyal, irritating brother, a shining star, a lurking menace, a dear friend, a familiar mystery, and an object of scorn. Shouldering the burden of all these contradictory roles, he struggles to find his place in both the town and his family.
A Miracle Is Not Earned but Freely Given by @wildlyironicbee Rated T 57K Complete
A bit of an Anastasia/verrrrrrrrry loose beauty and the beast AU
I love this one SO MUCH Please read it it’s got amazing characterization and some really excellent angst and family bonding.
Mirabel grew up listening to the stories her Abuela would tell her about the Encanto and her family's magical house, Casita--and of how it was lost, her Abuelo and Tío sacrificing everything to keep them safe. When she's presented with an opportunity to finally see the ruins of the Encanto for herself, she leaps at the chance. But what--or who--she finds there will alter the lives of her family forever.
Stars Lost Down The River by @ramblesanddragons Rated T 87K Complete
A ‘what if Mirabel ran away after her ceremony, Bruno went after her, and they both got swept down the river and lost their memories’ AU it features them reuniting with the Madrigals and it is just absolutely excellent. Rambles has a lot of Encanto fics and I love all of them.
Bitter Blood by ashtreelane Rated G 19K Complete
Post-Canon. Bruno is only technically the youngest. Really, it's by fifteen minutes, but he is also the smallest, and prone to sickness. The fainting spells probably don't help the weakness his sisters see. Bruno is hypoglycemic, which is annoying, but not dangerous. It gets much worse when he enters the walls.
Excellent Madrigal kids stuff and excellent angst
Never Shall We Die by archive_rat Rated M 99K WIP
Young triplets pirate AU. Pirate queen Pepa, ship’s doctor Julieta, & navigator Bruno. Listen, come closer, have you ever read something that left you just sitting in awe and wonder, something that every time you reread it you pick up on something new because there is just SO MUCH amazing detail? Because this is that. I cannot sing this fic’s praises enough. Also if AU’s aren’t your thing go read archive-rat’s other Encanto fics set in canon verse (do that even if AUs are your thing) I was very tempted to rec them individually. Landscape with the Fall of Icarus and Axolotl are my favorites.
Just Your Ordinary, Everyday Miracle by @16magnolias Rated T 283K WIP
Bruno/Original Female Character post-canon fic that starts with the question of ‘where did Bruno get the horse?’ at the end of the movie.
A candle. A living house. Magical powers. A 15-year-old girl named Mirabel. Miracles can come in all shapes and sizes, and Bruno's latest miracle may just take the shape of a 41-year-old widow named Lucía and her daughter Josefina. And – uh – maybe also a horse.
This fic has my whole heart. Lucia is such a well written and flushed out character and Mags’ writing is so cozy and I love it so so so so so much. If Bruno/OFC sounds interesting definitely give this one a read.
(Obligatory plug for my own (with @optimistic-violinist) fic Take Back the Kingdom, a modern/fantasy AU where Bruno and the kids have to save their kingdom from an evil wizard with humor, hijinks, and angst galore)

hi fellow christian writer. could you please help me? I'm writing a fanfiction of a movie where there is this character who has the power to see the future - the character already came with this power. And the bible says seeing into the future is a sin. The movie takes place in old times south america (?), so heavily christian/catholic (-based (?)). I'm really trying not to write or do anything that is blasphemous.
(I'm really sorry for my English too)
I know you're talking about the movie Encanto, and I've never seen the movie, so I don't really know how I would handle it if I were writing a fanfiction of it. Perhaps someone else who has seen it would be better qualified to analyze this aspect of it?
Usually I've seen future telling handled in a few ways in fiction.
The precognition route Common for superheroes, this involves people predicting various potential, but not at all certain, futures based on what is currently happening. A future, but not The Future. Kind of like what people do in real life to extrapolate the future, but enhanced to superhuman speed and acuteness. I don't think that's what is going on in Encanto, though.
Time slippage In this trope, the character has some kind of tie to time itself behaving in an abnormal manner causing them to see things from different parts of time. This is common on Doctor Who, for example. As time itself is a created phenomenon, this could reasonably incorporated into science fiction written by a Christian even though it couldn't happen in real life. After all, most magic powers in fiction are essentially people doing impossible things that in *real* life would be attributed to spiritual beings. But it doesn't inherently have to be that way in fiction.
The Merlin In the King Arthur myths, Merlin was some kind of changeling or intended antichrist who was born with Satanic powers, but was baptised as an infant and now still has some kind of intrinsic powers that he uses for good. See also: Hellboy; that warlock from Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
Divine visions Last but not least you can have your character be the recipient of straight up divine prophecy, in a fictional universe. This happens all the time in fiction as well, See: Tolkien's entire work.
Personally I think Time Slippage might be your best route but again, not having watched the movie I can't be sure.

Wish spoilers ahead.
The start of Wish is exactly like that of Encanto but without all the heart. It is literally the meme of "Can I copy your homework?" "Yeah but change a few things so it is not too obvious."
Also Asha deserved a pretty dress in the end like wth are you going to sell to little girls Disney you are all about money and you failed miserably even at that.
And it is for real soooo unfair how the queen did get a pretty dress the whole movie and Asha only got some lazy ass sparkles added to her boring ass dress.
Asha... not bad, ok, but she is copy paste Anna, Mirabel, and Rapunzel. Youtuber ModernGurlz is right about Disney's "adorkable" problem. All their main girls since Rapunzel have the same "quirky" personality save a few details. I have liked them all but it is getting boring. Give me a princess with a monotone, sad personality, give me a shy princess who only smiles and talks around close friends, give me back the classic super girly personality Aurora and Snow White style, give me an angry girl with a brutal sense of humor like Merida. Be creative, please!!!
I love the queen's design, super gorgeous. Too bad her character added nothing. Her help was barely needed since Asha's friend had already sneaked them into the castle and it was her who deciphered the king's magic. A super villain couple would have been way more fun.
Oh, yeah, Asha's friends. There were so-damn-many of them and only like 3 were rememberable or needed for the story.
The villain is a complicated issue. I appreciated Disney's attempt at another fully evil character, I liked how he wasn't yet another badly set up "twist villain" revealed only at the end. But I didn't like the end result that much.
His backstory was super underdeveloped and to "get" his motives better, if they really wanted to make him evil-yet-complex, they should have shown us a flashback of him losing his family Encanto style (They copy pasted the start might as well do the same with the antagonist backstory.
What the hell was the missing piece of tapestry for if it wasn't going to have any significance later on? Did the writers just forget or what even?
Worst part for me: The stakes were low as fuck. Disney doesn't respect its target audience, nowadays it thinks that children can't handle anything worse than a main character getting disappointed. The worst this "super evil" villain does is make people sad temporarily, for like two minutes (Kid you not), like one character stays sad for longer but MOST people in the kingdom seem happy and normal after giving up their wishes, he legit just makes people sad a few minutes (Again, I kid you not, no one dies, the wishes he "eats" to make himself stronger come back, nothing he does has a permanent, devastating effect, he is not even revealed to have killed Asha's father in a dramatic way or something). Yeah he makes people forget their wishes which is pretty sketchy but up to that point he seemed to have complex reasons for that, reasons that seem to disappear or have never even been there the second half of the movie when he magically becomes more evil due to a forbidden green spooky magic he uses, and then suddenly he becomes Maleficent (The cool, perfect villain version, not the woobie one) style evil in a very, very rushed and over the top way. I feel like he should have started up as fully evil with no backstory (Just a simple, Gaston or original Maleficent style, self centered guy, who wants more and more power and adoration), and simply gotten worse and stronger OR given more complexity as to why he became that way, but instead we got this weird thing in between where it is clear he just wants power and love from the people for the sake of it and yet he has this half-made sob story on how his family died.
There was a great lack of originality in this movie at the climax as well. Anyone watched "The little mermaid II"? That was pretty much it. Villain gets power boner, says he will enslave everyone (Worst thing he does in whole movie and yet no one trying to defy him dies at least off screen or gets hurt in any meaningful way). Then heroine saves the day.
The funniest part of this movie is that the villain's fate is worse than anything he ever did in the movie I swear. He gets trapped in a freaking mirror and then locked up in a cell (Similar to the Little mermaid II villain's end too lol). That is straight up torture till death, it is so fucked up. And his wife who literally sees how the green spooky magic is the main thing responsible for his bad day (If we are being honest that is all it was, other than the taking wishes part he seemed to be a good king) leaves him to rot and becomes queen Catherine II style, it is hilarious. Like girl, you turned against your husband like five minutes ago because apparently through decades of seemingly loving marriage, you never knew he was evil but now somehow you are ok with him rotting in solitary confinement till the end of time? So dorky and silly. So bad, so bad.
Lastly, that goat was annoying as hell.

Ive been thinking about the digital circus cast but with tma entities all day, so here they are:
Pomni- Spiral Victim, she is trapped in this strange place that looks like an old video game and is full of sanity destroying horrors, and she cant remember who she is and why shes here, of course its Spiral. Also i maybe a bit biased but I always associated clowns and circuses with the Spiral instead of the Stranger.
Jax- Hear me out, Lonely Victim. Ofc he spends a lot of time around the other characters but he's not actually treating them like people, more like play things. He never really opens up or acts genuinely to anyone, he just bullies them, and I think separating yourself from the only people around can be very isolating. : )
Ragatha- Buried Victim, this one was pretty hard to figure out because it isn't that obvious, at first I was thinking flesh but I think the Buried fits much better because she seems to be under a lot of pressure carrying the emotional weight of everyone. Shes always trying to help everyone and probably fears messing up even a little bit (Maybe like not fake laughing convincingly enough), because if she does everything will fall apart. I'm thinking Luisa (the strong girl from Encanto) except Ragathas not physically strong and giving into the pressure would have much worse consequences.
Gangle- Stranger Victim, I mean shes literally a comedy mask. Shes constantly going through major mood swings with the comedy mask and all. Thing is we don't really know how much her personality shifts between her masks, but changing suddenly at any time to something you might not even recognize as yourself feels very Stranger to me. There's this thing in my head thats the Stranger but your the Stranger that Johny never used, but I feel like if he did it would be similar to Gangle.
Zooble- Flesh Victim. What do you want from me, they literally, physically switches out their body parts and sometimes falls apart. It's like that one episode where the workout people attach extra arms and mouths and stuff but pg. Also same dude.
Kinger- Spiral Victim, hes insane in cannon. What do you want from me.
Bubble- Slaughter Avatar. Behind his goofy smile and beady eyes is only a barley contained murderous instinct. Do not trust him.
Caine- I don't know. He isn't actively trying to cause fear and he doesn't seem to be scared himself. I lean heavily towards the Web because he controls everything in the circus but he isn't manipulating anyone and they have a choice in whether or not they play (Kinda). Maybe Beholding because he watches everyone? The stranger is also a choice because he acts almost like a human, like an AI pretending to be a person, and that is exactly what he is. We'll probably just have to wait and see.

"For you, Rollo." One of the gargoyles slips something into his hand. When Rollo unfurls his hand, he finds a fistful of flower seeds in his palm. "You like gardening, don't you? Maybe you can plant these and watch them grow into something beautiful. Then you can look at those flowers and your heart will be at peace."
I really like the idea of flowers as symbolism for character growth and development 😌 I was thinking a lot about that connection and What Else Can I Do? from Encanto while writing this.
Anyway, stan gargoyle 🫶
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rollo recognized the gargoyle as soon as it had hopped up to him. A 10-degree difference on the wings, the 1-centimeter scratch running along the head. There was no mistaking it: this gargoyle was the very same that had caught him upon his defeated descent from the bell tower.
"Y'know, we're always up here. You can talk to us if something's botherin' ya."
Suddenly the flower seeds in his palm felt heavier than lead. A metallic taste coated the back of his tongue.
“I picked them up from the pesky birds that visit the bell tower," the gargoyle rambled cheerily. "The other day, a whole family made its nest in my mouth while I was still sleeping! Can you believe that?”
Rollo cut straight to the point.
"How did you know about the gardening?" he managed, in spite of the dryness that consumed his throat. His usual perfect, practiced poise came through.
The gargoyle laughed, low and gravely like the rock he was carved from. "It's been three whole years now. There's not a day in the year when you skip out on polishing the Bell of Salvation, cleaning us gargoyles... or watering the campus flowers."
He bristled. "You act as though you know me."
But no one does.
Not when he had stowed all his secrets away in that diary. Away from his classmates, away from his parents, away from the world. All the turmoil and hurt and anguish, banished to the pages.
Troubles rooted deep, not meant for mortal eyes.
The gargoyle's answer was a simple one. He tapped his temple and grinned. "I may not know what's going on in your head, but I know that you have a big heart. It's a good foundation. Fertile soil for flowers to grow—if you'll let them."
He nodded, indicating Rollo’s hand.
The seeds.
The start of something new.
Rollo curled his fingers back around them—a cage for the seeds, the bars stopping just short of crushing them. “… Heh. Hilarious. I hadn’t realized that stone was capable of comedy.”
If the gargoyle was offended, he didn’t show it. He slowly inclined his head to one side. “Yes, yes, I can see it now. A plant pushing through the dirt, rising through the roof and to the skies. That’s the sort of flower you’d be.”
“You think rather highly of me.”
When you’re fully aware of what I am capable of.
“I do. That's just the sort of person I've come to know you as, someone we can rely on. I’d trust you with the clothes right off my back if I wore any clothes!!”
The gargoyle chuckled at his own bad joke, elbowing Rollo in the ribs to encourage him to join in. The best he got was a stifled wheeze--more of a result of the jab than actually finding humor in his words.
“… Hey, Rollo. When these flowers have blossomed, I hope you'll be able to look at them and feel a little more at ease."
"I cannot make any promises as to how I will feel about the flowers, whether they've reached full maturity or not," he warned. Stern, pragmatic--as always.
"That's fine," the gargoyle replied with a patient grin.
One day, those feelings might change. Until then... I’ll watch over you as you, too, grow into something beautiful.

Get to Know Me
Tagged by @paleolithicarcher.
List 3 ships I like: Current hyperfixations being what they are, I'd say my current faves are Tim/Kon, Core Four polyam, and Kon/Match. ( honorable mention to Tim/Kon/Bernard, because I SURE DO have a lot more of "think pink" outlined, cough cough cough )
First ship ever: Tiny baby Rin wanted Madeline and Pepito to get fucking MARRIED and anyway THAT particular ship dynamic was clearly etched in my heart from Day Fucking One, hahahaha.
Last Song I heard: "All I Ever Wanted" by The Airborne Toxic Event, one of my long-time faves. Just popped up from my shuffled likes while I was typing this up.
Favorite Childhood Book: Animorphs. Just . . . all of it. All of them. I used to call the mall bookstore first thing every month to see if the new one was in yet. ( NO WALDENBOOKS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND I NEED IT-- )
Currently Reading Now: Mob Psycho 100 volume one. I've seen bits and pieces of the show, but my library finally got it on Libby so I finally started actually READING it. It's so stupid, I love it. ❤ Also about halfway through All Systems Red, though teeeeechnically I'm not reading that one, I'm listening to the audiobook. Saving the rest of it for a long drive I've gotta do next week. Superman Smashes the Klan is sitting on my bedside table and up next.
Currently Watching: Just finished season three of the American version of MasterChef as part of a two-week Gordon Ramsay binge I've been on; planning to rewatch Encanto this weekend. Really WANT to see American Fiction, which I'm pretty sure is streaming now, so I might ask the roommates if they're up for that one too.
Currently Consuming: McDonald's french fries and a Coke. Relatedly, I may or may not be sitting in a McDonald's as I write this.
Currently Craving: The chicken sandwich waiting in my takeout bag, lucky me!
Tagging: @chromatographic, @authenticaussie, @mistystarshine, and @definitelynotaminion.
