please free to ignore this if you’re not comfortable talking about it but i saw in a previous post you mentioned in the tags that you got into a huge fight with your best friend last year because you felt she didn’t put in enough effort on her end and i feel like i’m on the brink of going through this right now 😭

i’ve been friends with this girl for over 13 years now and love her to death but sometimes i feel as if my presence gets taken for granted. i feel like she believes she doesn’t have to put in much effort into our friendship anymore because i’ve been around for so long so there’s no way i’m gonna leave…and i HATE it!! there’s so much i have to say but i don’t even know where to start.

this is also semi related to my feelings on this but we have a third friend as well who we consider our best friend (corny to say but we’re a trio) but i feel this way towards her too sometimes. these past few months she got in a relationship and she while she definitely talked to us, she talked to us less and less in favour of her boyfriend (uni def played a part in this but she talked to him daily while we were lucky if we heard from her) but this past week lots happened and they ended up breaking up. this is genuinely the most i’ve heard her talk about her life with us in MONTHS and while i’m glad she did i’m a little bitter that she realized she should break up with him after some guy she befriended told her how trashy he is while i’ve been telling her that for MONTHS for it to fall on deaf ears.

it’s so annoying and i feel so stupid constantly putting in all this effort into these friendships giving all this advice for it to be ignored and be reciprocated back in lazy ways (they both give horrible lazy advice to me the rare times i have asked for it and it ends up just making me feel stupid).

i actually don’t know what i wanted out of dumping this in your asks but i just feel a little insane currently and think i’m crazy and care too much about little things. i feel so obsessive over these friendships and every little thing that happens while i know those two don’t think twice about it 😭 i guess i’m asking for advice on how to be less co-dependent? idk but you definitely don’t need to answer this if you don’t want, i know it’s A LOT to unpack and ur not a therapist…it’s very weird i’m dumping this here i sincerely apologize…

i think what helped me the most was the realization that (cue that tumblr post) you can't force reciprocation. sometimes relationships and friendships will fizzle out. in the end all you can do is look back on and appreciate the time you did spend with them. there's no such thing as a wasted relationship. the only thing i can say is talk to them! i know how exhausting it can be to continuously be the one reaching out and how sad it is thinking you're the only one with any stake in the relationship

if you decide that this is a relationship worth preserving then you need to sit them down and talk to them. if they still don't understand then it's not worth it. let them go! i will say upon talking to my friend she did promise to try more and do better. and while she hasn't completely done that 100% i think i was at a point in my life where i recognized that our friendship wasn't going to be the same as it was when we were constantly seeing each other almost every day in hs. i can't keep on holding on to the past when we're completely different people! i'd say we're in a good place now. not as close as we once were but close enough that i don't need to rely on her when i go through life crises. i also don't harbor any resentment towards her anymore. as for being less co-dependent i think it's important to still be able to talk about your problems to a friend but i wouldn't look for emotional fulfillment in them if that makes sense? either find another friend or acknowledge that the advice they offer you comes from a place that doesn't necessarily have your best interests. rant to them but don't hinge your hopes on emotional reciprocation or a resolution. sometimes, just talking helps! you don't need to seek out an answer. also taking up a hobby doesn't hurt.

4. Total number of words you wrote this year That's hard to find tbh....I didn't end up posting a lot of fics, so i dont only have to just check my statistics on ao3, but all of my possible fics ive written this year in my wip docs as well. the total i got was 58,171 words (~35k of it being WIPs and not posted)! so definitely not as much as i wrote last year which was (i think over 100k), and also not including all of my notes ive written. i did not do a lot of writing this year, so hopefully next year i'll wrap up all of my big fics and post them all <3

7. longest completed fic you wrote this year Again, i did not write a lot this year, much less finish them lmao. if you were to ask about uncompleted fics, we would have a different story--but alas, the longest completed one was Once More, With Needles, sitting at 4,414 words!

11. fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year hm....obey me, I suppose. its hard to say really, but enjoyment from writing specifically, i'd have to give it to obey me. what can i say, the cast is just really fun to write (even when levi is impossible to write, like what the hell man i have rewritten your part in my undead fic like 3 separate times and am continuing fixing it, like what the hell man i trusted you and then you dont behave for me). like this year specifically i realized how much i love each and every character--those like lucifer reminded me as to why i love the game and the characters, and people like mephisto and raphael randomly won a spot in my heart. theyre all just so so fun to write <333

12. favorite character to write about this year lucifer!!! even though i only have like, one fic that features him thats out and finished lmao; hes such an interesting and complex character, yet is one whose mind i can easily slip into when i need to write when its his pov. idk, sometimes i find myself struggling to write characters like levi or even asmo sometimes--mainly from my own failures to pay attention to their canon interpretations and making them not out-of-character--but lucifer is surprisingly one i can always rely on to be easy and fun to write!! he is angst galore and so emotionally constipated, hes great <3

22. events you participated in this year i didnt participate in any events this year! i tend not to do events tbh, theyre not really my style, as i dont do well with due dates unless i have months in advance lol;; usually i might do one, maybe two, events a year, but those are usually simple gift exchanges or something. nothing caught my eye this year, and ones that did i just didnt have the time to do, sadly. but! i do plan on doing the sonic big bang next year, which will be my first ever "bigger" event ive been in! exciting, but also really nervewracking as ive never posted sonic content and idk how well i'll do staying on schedule. but its still something i really wanna do (have a great fic planned for it!) so i still wanna give it a shot and do my best on it lol

24. favorite fic you read this year from this year is really hard to say--i think all of my favorite fics were found last year lmao so its a struggle to think of one. @heleentje's BOTW fic Moonlight has been a fantastic read (even though i havent finished it yet;;; i promise will soon!!) and just hits all of the right notes for me!! The batman fic Performance Piece is also definitely up there for me, as it captures so well what i want in my own writing when it comes to writing characters, especially when it comes to inner-dialogue (i might just go back and reread that one again lmao)

Well. Ok. this is complicated bcos my first impression of him was when I was like. 8? And at that point in time my impression was "holy fuckign shit this guy is the coolest guy in the whole world oh my god hes a fuckign NINJA turtle omg and hes got SWORDS"

Upon rewatching the series a few years ago my impression was a dawning horror that I had literally just grown into his character. the awful realization of "he's just like me fr...." (said in despair). We're the same guy and this isnt a good thing 👍

Favorite moment

UH. I rlly like when he actually has moments where he's making a joke or an awful pun or some stupid catchphrase??? He's normally v serious and stoic and crumbling under the weight of responsibility so I really like when hes a goofy little guy. A silly <3 or like along the same lines when he gets excited about Space Heroes !!!! Hes just like me fr !!!!!!

If we're looking for more of a specific moment I rlly love his solo fight scene w the foot and the shredder at the end of s2??? It's SO atmospheric and visceral, and hes just like. fighting in a very feral and violent way ?? Its rlly interesting bcos again hes usually so collected so its neat to see him be able to pull away from that. Also I love the like little details of snow and their breath fogging its great and rlly cool

Idea for a story

I'd love to write or read something focusing around his guilt and/or anger concerning Splinter?? Like obviously Leo looked up to him and idolized him and I'm sure Splinter did love Leo but like. Man.

Theres gotta be some resentment there that Leo's gotta sort through and unpack??? working on various achievements for catboy... i'm close to high roller, i just need to go back to chocobo racing and like, ugh. also working on shb relics, in theory. i joined a group to do potd runs for the weapon achievements and it went quite well for our first attempt, so i'm looking forward to that. also like, raiding and stuff...

leveling dancer on reis 100% for the level 89/90 glamour. i have priorities. after that i'll probably finish leveling sage... then warrior or reaper, idk. i don't feel super motivated to level on her now that i have her amaro, but i do want at least one of each melee (striking/maiming/scouting) at max for glamour, so.

leveling warrior on rune so i can go back to my endwalker replay. i boosted and story skipped her only to realize i want to play warrior instead of gunbreaker, whoops. her canon class is def gnb, warrior is just so much smoother to play in dungeons.

idk i think that's it for now. i have other alts (...i have a lot of alts) but i'm not super jonesing to play the others right now. though i do want to go back to my lalafell at some point. mostly i like bouncing around because each one is a little different to play, immersion-wise.

i also want to do more gposing... i've been a bit lazy with it recently, esp after the gshade debacle. i'd like to really test out some of the newer filters i've gotten and experiment. i'm not adept with posing and i don't really enjoy that part of it, but i love love love shaders and making the game really pop. (i like gposing on console too, especially with how limiting it is and how that breeds creativity, but i wish we had more filters...! catboy always comes out the wrong shade of orange.)

motivations def hard to get back and i think sometimes i Do have to force myself to sit down and write Something (my writing prof in college called it "butt in chair hours" bc it helps build a habit of sitting down and writing), but i know if its not coming then i need to lay off and not force myself too hard.

admittedly i need to go back onto my posts and edit them with a link to pictures because technically i'm not really an artist as much as i'm someone who's learning (but im not getting any reblogs for my silly drawings and i don't really tag them). i grew up drawing stuff based off of certain anime styles, and ive kinda moved toward realism more in recent years as a way of practicing anatomy better. when i work on an ipad, i end up tracing pictures because i'm usually doing it for practice on shading n whatnot. like this was traced from a pic of baeseung with a puppy (i'd have to see if i can find it online--he posted it to weverse and i usually save his cute face), this was pulled from a pic of chris where i wanted to do some practice on painting vaguely, but my traditional stuff like this cheollie and this hao were referenced (the hao one doesn't have a ref pic w it since i was working off a screenshot of a gif--i'd have to find the gose episode and get the screenshot myself).

May I inquire the reasoning behind Mermaid Ichigo? Because I'm all for it and it feels kinda right but I have no clue why lol

Anon, he'd make the prettiest mermaid, I mean look at him. Do I need more of a reason?

On a serious note, though, I am obsessed with mermaids; I think they're really cool, I watched the Shape of Water in theaters all by myself (not that I'm a monsterfucker, I'm pretty sure I'm ace but that's irrelevant). I enjoy this idea of people in Ye Olde Days feeling wallowed by the grief of losing their loved ones at sea and attributing it to morbid, poetic myths, such as sirens or mermaids. There's such a rich, enjoyable literary value to it, and so many people write brilliant fics as well that I'd like the simple joy of seeing Ichigo as one.

I really vibe with the idea of Ichigo being a protector or hell, even the King of the ocean like an Aquaman-meets-Ariel's-dad type of situation. Ichigo has many traits in canon that make him very rulerly: he's intelligent, wise, just, compassionate. He's one of those people that would never seek a throne himself but be thrust upon it by people seeking a leader. I think wayward ghosts (you know, maybe a sailor who died at sea, or other kindred spirits) would feel a great sense of comfort knowing he'd be leading them to the afterlife. He could be a mermaid of death! I know you're saying, "Are there mermaids like that?" To which I reply, "Mermaids are made up, and therefore we can say anything we want about them and it becomes true if we believe it."

Anyway, maybe he's a local urban legend. He starts helping ghosts transition to the afterlife as a kindness, but people soon begin deeming him as a local God and pushing that responsibility onto him until he grows into it. No one's ever really seen him, but the ones who do all claim one thing: he's smokin' hot!

Jokes aside, if this were a research paper, we'd first have to define what a mermaid means, which I have neglected to do. Here's a helpful guide, taken from the 100% accurate 'Mermaid Facts' page of the Real Mermaids dot net website:

"Lovely, wise and very shy creatures of the sea that in stories often fall in love with sailors and bear them children."

I am going to ignore the obvious heteronormativity/gender-coding of this and say, the description of lovely, wise and shy are all good descriptors of Ichigo. So is this:

Dangerous spirit of the sea that can conjure storm and fog, foretell death, read minds and wreak havoc of every level.

If I were ever to write a Mermaid!Ichigo, a mix of both is how I'd write it tbh!

So I decieded to rant about a bunch of Ron centered ships because... idk I just want to. This will be everything from the popular ships, to guilty pleasurs, to ships that just kinda confuse me. I'm gonna try to be nice to all of them but obviously they'll be ships I just don't like so I'll tag this post with *ship name*critical if that's the case. Also if I missed a ship that for some reason you want to hear me ramble about, than let me know. Finally I will not be doing pedo ships cos thoses just make me really uncomfy.

So with all that said, lets get started;

Romione: so this is the most popular one, and I see why. Personally I love the hight diffrence and the "opposites attract" vibes and bickering married couple used to be my fav fanfic trope so yeah. This used to be my favorite ship a few years ago, and while now I still like it, the ship kinda has some bad vibes for me. The parts where Herms attacks Ron are actually really triggering for me and it makes it a lot harder to enjoy, which sucks cos I do like their dynamic, just not the abuse.

Ronnary: so this ship is pure bffs to lovers + "and they were roomates", isn't it? I really love this one. While it isn't my number one, I don't actually have any problems with it. Like ig the closes thing to a "problem" with it is that they sometimes fight but idk if that really counts. All and all, I really like this ship and I need more of it.

Runa: this👏🏾ship👏🏾is👏🏾so👏🏾cute!!!! Like I really love it. I think it's adorable and I 100% think that Luna at least had a crush on Ron around Ootp. Also it's known as red moon and I love that

Ravender: I like this one so much. It's one of my favorite canon ships. That's not to say that it'd work long term or that I wanted it to be end game, but I really like the idea of them being each others first partners and I totally believe that they had a wonderful friendship after they left school and Lav married Parvti. Honestly this is more brotp than otp but I did like it as a romance. Also it had so much bi!girl/bi!boy vibes to it so yeah

Ronnev: this is the best Ron ship. Idc what anyone says, this is the best one. These two boys both deal with simular self-esteam issues, they're both very talented but take a while to "tap into" said talent, they're both the perfect combo of soft boi and badass, they both clearly care for one another, they both would punch an asshole, they are the perfect coffe shop/flower shop au ship, they were roomates, while the both have a lot of angst it doesn't seem to come from their relationship (so instead of the usual relationship angst it's more "us against the world" and/or "I can understand what you're going through and will try to help"), and finally... I just really like them

Vicron: so, this is one that my opinion of it is basically; "Victor krum is kinda creepy and the fact that he dated/stared at underage girls while he was an adult in the eyes of the wizarding world was gross, but qlso he was def Ron's bi awakening and I can totally see Ron being jealous of Hermione for going with Victor instead of the other way around". Tl;dr, I don't ship, but I do think Ron had a crush on Vic.

Dron: soooooo.... this is one that most of the people following me probably don't like. And I get it, Draco was a total jerk and bullied both Ron and his pals. But- while I don't ship, I will say that, imo, it's not that bad. Like I don't like it, but it's not worse than drarry or dramione, it's just less popular. And they have a fire and ice dynamic and while I still dislike the ship I do think that the dynamic is pretty cool

Ronsy: I don't get this one. I really don't like it. Like I can at least understand most Ron!ship but this one, I just- no. I do however like it as a au brotp. Like if I for some reason read drarry (which sincs I'm not the biggest fan of I usualky don't) then I'd like to have some Pansy/Ron platonic stuff in there. Like idk why, I just do. It's probably cos they're both the hot ones lmao

Blairon: ah yes, the guilty pleasure. The one which makes zero sense in canon vut I love anyways. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's because I want a ship where Ron is the short one. Maybe it's because I think Blaise deserves more character. Maybe it's because I want an au where Ron gets to live wealthy. Maybe it's because Blaise's dads always dying and his mom probably being the murderer would probably give this boy some trust issues and Ron seems to conect with people that have trust issues that stem from their childhood (Harry). Maybe it's because I want an au where Ron helps Blaise trust people and be more accepting of muggleborns and Blaise helps Ron have more self confidence. MAYBE I JUST WANT THESE TWO BOYS TO BE HAPPY

Ron/Padma: I'm not a fan. I get why people ship it, but I'm not a fan. Honestly Padma deserved better than how Ron treated her at the yule ball and I don't really love this ship.

Ron/Dean: this one is adorable and I love it. "Two tall bois being dorks" the ship

Ron/Seamus: again, this is adorable. Love it and I want most of it.

You were talking about shipping for 8 seasons to an anon and it inspired me to understand my feelings after the winter finale. Because while I wasnt happy I was resigned to the end of 5 telling me exactly how I ship Buddie in 6 if they aren't canon at the end. Because I will always ship them but I just know something explosive is coming for them, it's just what does it wrap up with.

Because listen Buddie to me is a minefield right now. Honestly more so then 2 characters I have ever seen. Bombs have been subtly put in place for 3 seasons. There isn't anyway you approach their issues that dont cause a wake of change. The biggest the will? I mean that's not a normal thing and how does it impact any future relationship choices of Bucks. The deliberate space, we have only seen Buddie on his balcony, not his home for how long? We haven't seen Buck in Eddies home. There is Bucks adondenemt issues and their choice to make Eddie block Buck from leaving. The existential crisis of all Eddie's decisions coming to a head. I mean to stay in the fold he's either in the call center or the new fire marshall you know?

I can picture so many scenarios you know? But I'm a little bummed because 5A there were so many scenarios all around a fan fiction writer could have made more emotionally impactful. So in short I am lowering my expectations on the emotional side because the beginning of this was just so not 911. But I really do think we will have resolution that makes me understand how 6 will play out and how much I invest into it.

But I'm Buddie for life. I love all LBGTQ representation but I do think Eddie and Buck are important representation the world needs, or maybe just me lol

Honestly, I am always in favor of all of us each figuring out how it's healthiest for us to ship. At the end of the day, I agree that if Buddie goes canon, that would be so incredibly significant. It's why I wrote a short shipper statement, because I'm positive that they could make actual real difference for the better! But you matter, too. You ship however you feel is best for you to ship! If that means investing a bit less, that's perfectly legit!

Now, just an extra tidbit I can offer is that I don't think we can fully judge 5a before we see 5b. It just feels like the first part of a season was all buildup to that tense moment in 510 where Eddie declared he'd be leaving the 118, and whatever consequences will unfold from that. Which is to say, we're in the middle of an arc and it's hard to judge an arc until it comes to its conclusion. When I brought up waiting 8 seasons for a ship to go canon, I meant to say that when it comes to Buddie, we don't know whether we're in the beginning or middle. We've def had progress with all of those Buddie "bombs" you mentioned, but we don't know whether how long the story is, whether the book we're holding is thick or thin, whether there's 5 or 15, 35 or 50 minutes left for the movie to resolve its action... To me what that means is that even if things aren’t currently where I'd like them to be, I'm aware there might still be so much more to come that will bring things to that place, and I think that's a part of why I'm not feeling anxious, not just yet. IDK if that helps you too, I hope it will, even if just with figuring out how you need to ship Buddie!

very friendly around the teachers in general, and likes tagging by them a lot.

Sometimes ends up being the last to leave class cuz he's trying to make quick chat with him about whatever he was teaching, and ends up having to dash to the next class.

actually masks more & acts a lot more formal around him though, like there's a big difference between hoshiz with other students, and hoshiz with Sato.

(well it's there with any adult & Tsumi actually, but especially Sato)

That said, he really likes Sato, even if he comes off more threatening or stern or whatever compared to like Miss Me.

Hoshizawa has a lot to learn not just about using his quirk safely and working with the downfalls of it, but in specializations and using it in new ways too!

she's likely able to work best with Hoshizawa on finding how to learn in a way that works best for them both.

He really likes Miss Me, and how friendly and comfortable she is, defs his favorite teacher.

but also she seems nervous and anxious a lot and doesn't know how to read when she's more or less anxious or what she actually wants.

so he's a lot more regularly like actually holding his arms out & offering a hug instead (as opposed to suddenly hugs attack w a lotta students)

particularly he cannot read when she's agreeing out of anxiety or genuinely agreeing.

ends up asking what she wants or needs in the moment because he has No Clue. (but can hardly get the question across right and ot sounds weird)

they were both homeschooled and had very protective family! relatability ayo

like if i find a new writer's blog and their first fic up is a jaehyun fic and, to be blunt, it sucks because i can tell their heart wasn't really in it? they are not getting any engagement from me whatsoever!! i'm not following, liking, reblogging, anything. honestly, if it's that bad to me, there's a chance i'm gonna block them 😭 but let's say maybe i go to your blog and you've written a fic about maybe yangyang, who's your bias, and i'm curious and i read it and i can tell you have a genuine love for the story and member and craft in general, you're infinitely more likely to get my engagement!!

like actually tbh? i remember one time i was scrolling through my dash and i saw a like . yangyang fic and i mean like. the banner was pretty, the sections before the "read more" were cohesive and neat and clean, and the summary looked interesting !! so i read it, even though i typically don't read for yangyang ever !! and that ended up being . one of the most enjoyable fics i'd read in a very long time. ((if you're curious, i'm 99% sure i reblogged it to here under the fic recs tag; it is an entirely SFW fic written by someone underage (yes, i checked with her to see if she was okay w me rbing it here once i found out she was a minor) so behave appropriately !!!)) so yeah... tldr: put your heart into your work and the right people will come !!)

*(this post is not mine, but it's a great start for being aware of how your word choice can be more inclusive and less alienating for people of color!! there are many things to be aware of when writing inclusive reader-insert stories besides just race, though, such as body type factors like height, weight, build, etc., hair types, gender identity (i actually saw someone talk about this in the tags a while ago and it made me more cognizant of things like this but, like, if you're writing for a afab reader with she/her pronouns, then specify that before the fic starts!! (for example: instead of writing "jeno x reader" for the pairing, you can say "jeno x fem!reader") otherwise amab readers or people whose pronouns aren't she/her will waste their time at best and, unfortunately, might experience gender dysphoria at worst, y'know? and because we are considerate people, we do not want that.)

also, i feel the need to say that like. no, i do not read people's fics and give them feedback if i don't know them well because i know that i would have a hard time actually being honest; i do have friends on here whose work i've looked at before they posted it bc like . we are already friends and they know me enough to know that i would never intentionally hurt them, y'know?

however!! if you have a specific kind of writing question and you think i can help (and you have already checked google) then i would be up for helping!! but like...i cannot stress this enough... if you come to me with questions that i google and find the answer to within 10 minutes, i'm not gonna be helpful bc... you could have done that yourself y'know? do not ask me, like, "can you explain punctuation rules to me?" or "what's a noun?" Hey, if you're leaving a comment on a fic you love, do you think it's ok to also tell the author if they missed a word or misspelled something? At what point should you just say, "I'd beta this for you?"

Oof, Nonnie, you probably came to the wrong place 😂 Not because I'm not happy to answer--I totally am--but because I tend to be the lone person who feels differently on this than my friends, so I'll try to answer more from their point of view than mine.

Basically: if it's me, go for it, say something. If it's someone else--probably skip it.

The bottom line is that a small handful of typos isn't usually enough to stop a reader from enjoying a fic. As you said, you're hypothetically talking about a fic that you love. And so, if you say something, you're risking making someone upset over not a large potential gain for you or for them. So def err on the side of not saying anything.

You probably shouldn't offer to beta a story out of the blue either. It can come across as saying "you did a lot wrong, and you don't know anything about me, but I think I can do better than you." Even if you try hard for it not to sound like that.

It's not your job as a reader to 'fix' a fic. So if that's the angle you're trying to come from, it's not the best way to engage with an author.

I'll answer with more nuance below the cut, but that's the gist and probably what you should take away. Unless you know them: don't. But if you wanna chat more with me about this, because it's tricky, my dms are open.

Okay, let's start with who. Some authors put in the notes on ao3 that they're accepting concrit. Then it's probably fine. But also beware that a lot of people around here seem to think that what they're saying is concrit because they think it's helpful, but just telling someone that you think they're wrong about something is not usually helpful. So make sure to put a lot of thought into your phrasing, and give the author the benefit of the doubt if it's something more than a simple spelling error.

If they're a friend, it's probably fine to reach out personally. If it's an author you didn't know but are having a back and forth with, it might be fair to bring up if it sounds like they're looking for feedback (I've done this before, but you def have to be careful!). If it's someone you've never interacted with, again, probably don't.

Now where. If it's on ao3, it can be tricky since you can't message unless you leave a link to another account. I'll admit, the thing that makes me different from my friends is that I'm a fan of leaving and receiving reviews that have things I like and things I question. Admittedly, I don't know if all of these reviews have been well received--I'd actually bet that they haven't. But, imo, I'd always rather receive an engaged review that's not 100% positive on a story than one that just says "omg, I liked this so much 😍". Writers so rarely get truly engaged reviews, so that's why I leave them. But, nonnie, without knowing what kinds of reviews you leave and what you think is appropriate, I can't recommend you do this. I'm not even sure it's right that I do it. Some people are grateful, most don't say anything, so idk what the odds of a positive reception is. So, if you're questioning if your review will be well received or not, take out the part you're questioning. Better safe than sorry.

If it's on tumblr, don't leave it in a reblog, even in the tags. Maybe dm the person, if you're kind about it. Or you can leave an ask, but I definitely recommend not leaving an ask on anon. If you're willing to put your name behind what you say, then that should tell your gut that you don't think what you're saying is alright. If you feel the need to hide, that feeling is coming because you think that you're wrong, so just don't. An author will be more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt if you put your name behind it too, or they can follow up with dms or answer privately instead of publicly.

That's my gist. Like I said, I don't really have the answers here, because it's personal. If you're really wondering, and if it's someone on tumblr, you can try asking them. But a lot of authors around here are pretty sensitive about stuff like this, so be prepared to get a negative response and apologize, just in case.

The best you can do most of the time is just let it go <3

Hey battle of bands au anon here! Thank you sooo much for the advice , I've decided to choose all might because I dont want my fic to be too angsty or plot heavy. I also realised afo can be a very complex character to write and I dont think I can pull that off in my first fic. Also I love the approach you're taking on AFO in stringmaster , it is currently one of my favs!

I haven't read all your fics (yet) but as far as I have read I dont think endeavor has had a major role in any of your fics but if you have any advice on his characterisation then I'd love that. I want this fic to be more fluffy with just a little angst so I dont want to make endeavor as horrible as canon. He's still obsessed with his children (shoto and dabi) being number 1 but I guess not as horrible to his family. Basically I'm stuck at a scene where endeavor has to react to dabi being ranked 2nd in a pleasantly surprising way but not completely out of character. Idk if that made any sense or not I feel like I'm having trouble putting things into words.

Ha ha, glad to hear it helped out! And yeah, he can be, hell I’d say Tomura can also be very tricky to write given his complexity. But def. AFO is up there as well.

Stringmaster AFO is fun (and challenging) to write, because it’s this...weird contradiction, where he does understand emotions and how humans work in theory, but lacks the ability to sort instinctively realize these things himself. Basically meaning he both gets and doesn’t get it.

Almost everything needs to be conscious choices to him for the most part, rather than just knowing how to react in situations where empathy is needed. 

But enough about that! 

Yeah, I don’t use Endeavor a whole lot in my fics other than being the bad father he is in canon, because...tbh I find his character pretty boring? Like his most interesting parts are basically plot device stuff to have an impact/act as motivation for more important/interesting characters. (I.E Dabi and Shoto) Without those he’s just...kinda generic prideful grumpy guy? He just doesn’t really stand out to me from any other hero outside the bad parenting. 

It probably bothers me more/is more noticeable than it would with other mangas I’ve read, because he gets contrasted against well-written and complex characters like many of the villains, or if I have to pick a hero example, Aizawa and Toshinori. 

 (To be fair, I have this issue with a lot of the hero side characters, they feel really underdeveloped/one-dimensional to me a lot of times. I get you can’t flesh out every single one of your hundreds of characters properly, but sometimes even more central focused hero characters feel underdeveloped to me, IDK) 

....I better cut this rant short and get back on topic about the actual question haha

I feel like I’d probably need more context of what is going on to give proper useful tips, but the first thing that comes to mind would probably be him doing kind of a backhanded compliment or so, where he expresses that Dabi did good job but also still make him feel like it’s not enough? IDK how to demonstrate that exactly tho. 

I think the best example I can offer is Stringmaster AFO, now that he was brought up? Like the birth of Mon-chan comic I made, (here in case you dunno what I’m talking about) where he compliments Tomura about his achievement, but then casually tells him he could scrap it and try again because it wasn’t perfect. In his mind he was stating a fact, but it comes off pretty cold, especially to a kid who’s looking for his approval. 

Something along those lines could work with Endeavor too, though obviously his delivery would have to be more exaggerated and aggressive, because he’s not suave/well-mannered (or lessay pretentious) like AFO lmao

Also I think to make it feel in character someone would probably have to point out to him that he needs to be more encouraging and supportive, because a prideful dude like him’s gonna struggle being able to figure it out himself. So it’d be like “good comment, bad comment, gets scolded and tags on another good comment clumsily” or something. 

IDK if any of that helps, but I tried at least. Either way I’m looking forward to reading your fic someday if you manage to write it. Who knows, maybe you’ll get some fanart for it too C;

Hello! Let me just say that I completely adore your writing! I've only just begun writing and have limited amounts of readers that I'd like to branch out with but I'm having trouble with exposure... I'd like to ask you for some tips on writing and how to get exposure perhaps? Thank you!

Hey, firstly thanks very much!

Ok, exposure/followers/readers etc really do accumulate over time- so don’t worry if you’re on the lower end right now! idk about other people but if i like something someone has wrote i then try to check out there other stuff so don’t be disheartened if there isn’t as much traffic. 

That being said, a few things i find that helps are Tagging correctly- i think on tumblr it’s the first 5 tags that show up on popular searches so putting stuff like the shipname or main characters included if its gen really helps people find it. Also tagging any warnings etc on the post is great but don’t feel you need a wall of tags either, you want enough so the reader is informed and to catch people’s eyes but not so many it can put people off if that makes sense? 

a few other things that help are being active on here and a03 and interacting with other artistts/writers/fans of uts posts, i wouldn’t advise just commenting for the sake of it but if it’s something that interests you it won’t seem forced. Posting at the right time can help as a newbie too, if you’re not on usa time then being mindful of it def helps! 

Also my other advice would be keep reading other works and improving on your own stuff by learning each time you write, if you’re constantly trying to improve it really shows! (and this is the ideal, i still want to be able to do this more!)
