i really wanted to mix revival and older replica for this one. the thigh-high boots, sparkly, tasseled dress, and generally the wig are all revival inspired, but the curly fur stays and the makeup is old because i really do like the very dramatic, gothic grizabella looks. her coat is also heavily 2019 inspired with the length and stripey purple fabric

i also was not sure how i wanted to do her hair other than it covering one eye (SHOUTOUT TO THE FANART I SAW WHICH HAD THAT. I CANNOT REMEMBER THE URL) esp the color so i did a gradient of light grey to dark brown, which i REALLY liked ! it also helped me decide that shed be chocolate smoke instead of a tabby

idk why but i decided to go with a 1940s inspired formal look for her.... i quite like the hat and think it helps her to stand out, so i'm comfortable in that decision. her fur design is also mostly replica inspired. enjoy her neapolitan ice cream makeup too

she also gets a pink nose and her collar from the 2019 version. idk why the collars went so hard in that movie

VERY replica inspired.... with notes of other productions. opera populaire had full glasses bustopher which i liked. an older makeup look also had stripes which i also thought looked nice (and makes him look more related to mistoffelees) ! there are also multiple bustopher designs that have the moustache and beard 2 for 1 dealio..... and decided to incorporate that as well

he also gets the fishbone hanky crevat thing and a fishbone brooch. i almost made his rose white but i liked the contrast of the red. enough that i decided to give him lipstick too . and youd best believe that he has a giant fucking pipe that he smokes out of

MUH OLD MAN... i love him. very much based on a bunch of different replica designs for him. he gets a beard and sideburns because i think i really do love the costumes w facial hair, and i think it just fits. he also gets glasses

he gets the coat and handkerchief (now a scarf) that typically hides the growltiger costume... which has a crisp formal outfit underneath. maybe he takes the coat off during his number to signify having moments of clarity and humor during his song

i do think in my interpretation hes well enough to joke around during his number and play the rumpus cat but like. damn you can tell this cat is old. hed be like 93 in human years

hello there dog!!! firstly, i just want too say im incredibly proud too see how far you have come, dialtown is so special too me, and for not only that game to be so loved, but also for you too be so involved in the community, is amazing keep up the great work! i do have a question, i am working on a theory pertaining to my favorite characters gingi/milton, and if i may, i have a couple questions about him specifically, if you don't mind of course :) 1. what made you come up with the design/personality of gingi?

2. what are your personal feelings/thoughts on gingi? are you satisficed with them as a character? or are there anything you wish you could change now? 3. this is a wierd one but, gingi generally does not really care what he looks like/what others think, so im really curious why hes so meticulous with making his phone/type head, and if he is so bent up about it, why not try to get someone like Oliver to make him a more proper one? instead of replacing the rotten flesh over and over

4. idk if you can answer this one, but i dont think it can hurt to try...was gingi around, before callum lost his mind?

1)Design for Gingi was primarily based on Frankenstein's aesthetic applied to a the chupacabra. Personality was largely ripped from quite a few unpublished stories/ideas I had before making DT. There's a few protagonists in other things I'd written as potential new game/story ideas that are eerily like Gingi.

2)I'm really really happy with Gingi as a character and I wouldn't change anything that I've established. I like how Gingi starts the game and changes by the end because it's pretty vast, but also not a complete change (and it happens very very gradually.)

TBH, outside of Gingi's interactions in DT, the fandom doesn't really know anything concrete about Gingi due to Gingi's poor memory. Until Gingi formed real human relationships, there was nothing to anchor to, just fragmented and barely remembered individual interactions. Honestly, the bigger picture is really interesting and I'm very happy with Gingi as a protagonist and I'd love to make sequels to DT as I've had concrete ideas for where the character would get up to in potential sequels for years now!

3)Gingi's flesh-head is a bit of a mystery. Gingi doesn't have the same adverse reaction to rotting things that most people do, but does have a general chip in its shoulder about being judged as lesser by others. Gingi (generally) does not make efforts to change its appearance to be seen as less repulsive by others, as we can plainly see from the fact Gingi often forgets (or refuses) to wear clothes.

4)I have all the main character date of births written down, so I could tell you Gingi's exact age... but it's more fun if I don't.

FOR MILT:

1)I'm not really sure why the wiki says that. There's no canon materials that state that Crown + Milt had an affair together. I think someone just read between the lines and stated their hunch as a fact.

2)Norm and Milt met but didn't know each other well. There was a cut mention of Milt in Norm's dialogue, but after a lot of head-scratching, felt the topic was too forced. Norm wouldn't have volunteered the information unless it was relevant to the scene and Gingi would not have asked.

3)Mingus knows about Milt, though not intimately. The only person alive during Mingus' lifetime who could've talked about Milt to her was her grandmother Marla, who was a husk of a person for Mingus' whole life (and in particular, talking about Milt would've hurt too much for her given their closeness.) Mingus knows about Milt from her obsessive study of her paw paw's presidency, but not much more than any historian/social studies teacher would. A lot of information I'd consider very important about Milt was never put to paper.

4)I'm not 100% sure why the fandom likes him as much as they do, given how little of him the fandom has seen (and how little information there is about him out there so far.) I just wanted a few references to him included in canon so I could potentially reveal more about him one day without fans wondering how this SUPER important character had never been mentioned. It's incredibly likely that I'll show more of Milt in future DT stuff due to how instrumental he was in Crown's decision-making + rise to power. There would be no practical way to expand on Crown without discussing Milt more.

There's a much bigger picture that the fandom hasn't seen much of that Milt is very important to, though it isn't often relevant to the modern day events of DT. Understanding Milt isn't important to understand DT itself, but is to understand both Crown and exactly how the world (and by extension, Dialtown itself) ended up exactly the way it did. And with time, I will discuss that some more.

I put a decent amount of thought into the throne's designs!

In this essay I will-

Hootbons was the most difficult to design. Good thing I started with her's first!

Since her OC maple is a rubberhose cartoon, I went with a 20s technology theme. The 20s were a time of great technological advancement. Radio, Television, even Vaccum cleaners!

Just cluttering a bunch of 20s technology together didn't look very good, though, so I added maple tree branches along with animation themed items like pencils and animation cels.

Mushy's is just a slightly redesigned version of her throne from her execution. I added a few more mushroom types for variety.

Dia's was easy. It's just his crown as a throne.

Since I found 0104-vkta from her human Gangle art, That's what I based her throne on! You'll see a combination of the happy and sad masks in the middle.

Loxely's was also simple, she's a flower. I made her throne a flower.

Goose's is supposed to be a goose feather, but I looked up references for duck feathers instead for some reason. (also, I just drew generic bird feet instead of goose feet??)

since Rabid is a jester with a clown nose (a mix of a medieval form of entertainment and the more modern concept of a circus clown), I decided to mix a medieval throne with props you'd find in a circus!

Burrotello's throne was made reaalllly late in the game, when I had already finished most of the sketches for part one, but I felt bad not including her since she was the only new member of our discord at the time.

I went with a gothic theme for her's. I don't think her clothes can really be considered goth, but that's what I went for. Maybe it's the earrings.

You'll also notice that, unlike the others, she doesn't have anything on the backrest! I forgot it 😭 (this design element is an important theme.)

Her's was pretty simple, it's just a throne made of bones. There wasn't really any planning for this one!

Okay, so the backrests! Each of the thrones have a circular element in that area (except for Burrotello because I forgot, and Dia's and Mushy's aren't really circular, but you get it). They are meant to represent halos. If you look at the backgrounds, you'll see eyes on the balcony of the elite's seating section:

And, it's not very visible since the large thrones are covering it up, but there are wings on the back wall behind the elites.

Multiple eyes and wings are commonly attributed to biblically accurate angels

The elites sit high above everyone else, surrounded by angelic imagery with "halos" behind their heads. It is a very clear show of their hubris, of their willigness to play god not only with their AUS, but with their own audience, deciding who lives or dies by the wave of a hand (i.e. executions).

When I describe "the elites" here, I am specifically referring to how they are portrayed as characters in my comic. This is not a comment on the real people behind these sonas.

Help I know I asked for saiki k requests TWO months ago and I had a really fun idea for an illustration, but my brain is a smooth cube. so that idea stays up in the air.

For now take a really quick silly crack doodle about one of the many possibilities I think Kusuke/Makoto telling Saiki/Teruhashi would go. Spoiler alert: it’s hilariously horrible.

(Saiki thinks they’re messing with them and Teruhashi is seething. Are they pranking them? Who knows.)

And ya know what? Beneath the cut take my redesigns of these guys and my notes for them because I made several months ago ‘cause I haven’t touched them since :(

A quick note! These designs aren’t meant to say ‘fix’ the original-they’re just for fun! Even if I think elements of mine look better, clearly the original works and are well loved. Also I’m not especially fond of these anyways JAJSJANW

Saiki doesn’t change much other than his palette is a more balanced. Also I really like designing hair, and wanted the idea that Saiki really tries to sleek it down to something very generic and unassuming, but the hairpins get stuck in the way and his hair sorta moves outwards from there. Continuing the idea that his powers make him subtly less normal. It also accidentally made him look A LOT more like his parents, oops.

Also I drew a comparison from his canon hair to his redesign, because I didn’t think it was particularly clear until side by side.

Also I actually gave this one a proper illustration lol.

Teruhashi’s design was actually partly inspired by @lu-kario’s human mlp designs because they’re really good :^ She’s also pretty standard except her hair and color (which I’m not too satisfied with.)

I like the idea of the Teruhashi Siblings being a bit supernatural, so along with weird shine effects, they also get constant wind effects! Like in all the anime where they have flowing hair at just the right times even though it wasn’t windy at all before? Yeah! Except that’s more Makoto’s thing while the shine stays Kokomi’s.

Also what ethnicity are these characters now? To me they’re still Japanese, but I think people don’t ever use a range of skin tones for the same ethnicity. But really these are just fun designs I didn’t really think too hard.

Kusuke! He was the first one I did and an absolute PAIN. He was also the reason I did this, because as much as I love Saiki K and respect the author, I just got to know what is going on with his debut clothes.

Well not like I did that much better… Kusuke is stuck with four alt palettes because I can’t decide which shade of weird yellow and purple to make his head and gown (I’ve resolved to draw his hair a different shade of yellow in every drawing.) His eyes also match Saiki with purple eyes, because I think they look better lmao.

Also, that’s his Cambridge gown he’s wearing. And fun fact-they have a great amount of rules on what color does gowns get an accent of based off what subject people are taking! I decided to not think too hard on that and just gave him a better looking gown.

And I really like the hair I gave him, the original to me just lacks a bit of anime shape style. Also his headgear is shaped like a graduation hat now lol.

He also has a silly little doodle for what he’d look like with his lab coat. It’s not here, but I like to think he always puts a ponytail up!

Last and also least xp, Makoto! He’s uhh about the same with the points I said with Teruhashi. Just very angular now. I swear I tried to design a better fashion for Makoto but I just ended up with the same.

I tried to style his hair how Japanese celebrities would, but I don’t know if I succeeded. His hair as I said is constantly blowing to the left lol. Also he has a hair clip now! In my head Kusuke gives him a telepathy canceller disguised as a hairclip.

Also anyone can draw or get inspired by these designs if you wanted lol Though I don’t really like these, I still use these hairstyle for drawing them cause I think they look cool lol.

Alright... No one asked november day whatever the fuck: i finnaly got to designing my characters (althought i have to work on his clothes lookin more interesting)

His name is Nos, hes a member of the possesed ones squad, a special forces used by a certain aristocratic group for dirty work. Every member has a specialazation, in Nos` case: stealth and assasination

I think its time to explain a bit of power system in the world im building for fun

So... everyone has a soul, a non physical core of a being or like a invisible fuel to the body Pretty often in this world souls subcounciously manifest a power, there are all kinds of powers, from simple ones like inhuman streangth to oddly specific ones like being capable of creating a liquid psychodelic drug at will

When a person dies and is rich or lucky(or unlucky, depends on perspective) enough a merciful blacksmith might come to save them. Blacksmiths are people capable of extracting souls out of dying or recently dead people and then forging those souls into all kinds of things, making the person immortal

Nos was a person saved by blacksmith, he lives on in these pieces of armor being forced to posses deathrow inmates to keep on serving as a solider

But as you can imagine forcing two souls into one body by possesion often doesnt end well. That often results in destruction of hosts soul, deformation of body or sanity loss of the possesing one (usually a combination of those)

Nos` innate ability is one of psychic type, on command he can highly reduce the cahnce of everyone around him noticing his precensse (sort of like forced psychic version of that funky video where your have to count how many times ball is passed for one person to another but in middle of it is a gorilla but you dont notice it) And since current host of his was decently compatible he has access to another ability, this one making him and small things he touches transparent on command

This compatibility gave him the title of stealth specialist and to this day hes a great but underappreciated asset of the possessed ones

Underappreciated due to the fact taht in actual combat he is the weakest of all(not to call him weak, cuz compared to avrage human he is a trained killer), so most of them treat him as a punching bag, when they can find him that is

Not that he cares about it, hes all about ignorance, if everything around him can ignore him, then he can ignore it all as well

~so he does~

Nos doesnt think much of stuff happening around, he only executes commands when he has to and wehn there are none he sleeps until there are

well most of it was about power system in the world of mine but doubt anyone has read the whole thing anyway so i wont include his whole backstory from before he died for teh first time

overall thoughts about the country girls i've been drawing sometimes

what is this?: country humanizations with focus on Russia, America and China. tagged "nothetalia", ie "not-hetalia". maybe i'll come up with a better name one day

the overall concept: it's focused on international politics, so the characters' behavior is more alligned with their country's behavior on the world stage rather than with national stereotypes. modern-day focused. the characters exist on another plane of reality, so they can do magic, turn into animals, change appearances and undergo mitosis (about this later)

the design philosophy: all of them are women, no exceptions. because of the political focus, their clothes tend towards "business casual" to reflect that. sometimes inspiration can be drawn from the looks of prominent female politicians of a country. most of the times it's taken out of my ass and based on vibes.

the mitosis thing: because the characters are on another plane of existance and have to reflect political reality, they are very... fluid. for example: if a country is divided by civil war, then it gets split into two characters with the same face, same memories and even a mental link akin to telepathy. if they grow apart further, the link can get weaker to the point where it's almost entirely broken, and the twins are very much separate entities. an example of such separation: Britain and America (America started off as Britain's "double" so they still share a face and some physical features. i think they still share a mental link of sorts.) the characters can sometimes refer to their relationships as familiar, but it's very arbituary. America and Britain switch between calling each other "sisters" or "cousins", and Russia would think about the Union as her (late) mother (although technically current Russia is her "double" with the same memories and arguably the same-ish "consciousness", whatever that means)

relationships which interest me the most:

Russia & China: they have these vibes of "we are adults. we know love doesn't exist. we know we can't get attached. Healthy Distance, ok. not like the last time. this time we're sooo careful." i explored a very optimistic outlook on this dynamic in this fic. being so different means both some inevitable mistrust and an actually smoother dynamic where there's, like, less to argue about. i think they're very complimentary in essence. when China speaks Chinese and Russia speaks Russian, they understand each other perfectly. but only when they're drunk.

Russia & America: you know it's a great dynamic when in the "you're not rocking with me!? im gonna kill myself" meme each of them can be both the one breaking up and the one threatening to kill herself. (although im of the opinion that it's America who's responding to the break up text, but that is debatable.) i explored their dynamic a little in this and this fics. i think they're on the stage of very personal and visceral hatred and you cannot have them in the same room like two territorial and agressive cats

Russia & Germany: Germany refused to have friday beers with Russia so for a while she walked back and forth outside of Germany's window like an impatient tiger in a cage. Germany was too scared to tell her to leave so she just quietly closed the blinds

USSR & East Germany: im a bit insane about them tbh. i once saw a picture from i think better call saul (i haven't watched it, full disclosure) where he and his love interest lie in bed together but they're both dressed in business attire? yeah like this is their dynamic. but they're in military uniforms.

honorable mentions i'd like to think about more in the future:

America & Britain: i feel like they have something very messed up and entertaining going on Russia & India: a lot of wholesome potential. Russia & Iran: united by love for the geranium flowers Russia & North Korea: Russia appearing out of nowhere like heyyyy so, still friends, right?)) and Korea is like uh-huh. "welcome home cheater" vibes. Russia & Turkey: they're friends. they hate each other. they know the other very well. the most toxic and duplicitous "friendship" in the world and that's why it can be so fun

Although, to be fully honest and transparent, the reason it took so long to find your blog is because I didn't find your meme through Tumblr, I found it on Google images on Pinterest and lost the image and etc when I moved phones (where I do my art on), and full transparency, I do suffer from some mental health issues and one of those unfortunately means I have a really bad memory, and admittedly, I must of at some point just forgot that I had drawn the outfit from your meme originally and have continued using it? Im actually embarrassed to admit that and I feel awful about using your design for so long before I actually remembered that it wasn't mine or just something I saw someone wear once irl or etc, and I wanted to let you know that now that I am fully 110% aware now, and are older/wiser enough to know better than to use even others outfit designs like it's no big deal and that I wanna do what I can to fix things?

I'm planning on redesigning my main OC, who rn you can see clearly in the outfit on my icon/blog to have a different default outfit, and trying to go back to everything that has the old outfit and give proper credit, but I wanted to ask if there was anything else I can do or etc to help mend myself forgetting the outfit wasn't mine and using it so long without permission/credit. Because as someone who ended up making my own outfit memes, and has had designs and art basically stolen or having others take credit for, I feel awful that I somehow got myself to this point where I was absent mindedly using your design this whole time. Your art and designs are really fantastic and I don't wanna contribute to you not getting that attention/credit as I have been doing, and I feel bad I even forgot that kinda thing in the first place. I'm just glad I woke up and realized that I had basically gaslit myself into forgetting it was your design/one from a meme and not mine, because the last thing I'd want is to continue being a design thief now that I'm aware, and I'm glad at least I caught it before I started making my own comic or etc and had continued doing it.

TL;DR I've been accidentally using one of your outfits designs as a default on a main character of mine for a few years now, unaware I was even doing it because of certain memory issues I have, and now that I am fully aware, I want to deeply apologize and try to fix things and tell you that I plan to stop and change their default attire completely and go back and credit you wherever I can wherever I have used it, and ask if there is anything more I could do to fix this mess I've made?

Secondly, thank you for having the courage to message me about a matter like this. Of course, I feel sad to know that my outfits memes are floating in Pinterest and who knows where but that is something many artists these days have to face. The internet culture currently is about sharing and many people don't stop to think about the consequences, and that sharing images might cause problems for artists. Without sources people can't find the right artist or they may not know that the content was not for taking. Obviously I don't want people to intentionally take my designs or art, but I am aware that it can happen completely unintentionally: which I'm sure was the case with you.

So, please don't feel bad about the situation anymore! We all make mistakes, that's just life. The fact that you're choosing not to use the outfit in the future is enough for me. It actually feels great to be an inspiration and to know that my outfits are well liked, so if I can offer any further advice it's this: go forth and design more cool outfits! Be inspired by others but always create something that is yours. When you look at the old outfit on your character, think about what was it that made it seem so perfect for that character. Then take those parts and transform it into something new, something better, something more you. That's really the cool thing about designing, you really get to express yourself and your characters through outfits. It's why I love doing it so much.

it makes me sad whenever i see Lestat suggested that Louis was a greater love than Nicki, when Nicki was actually the the truest of his loves. VC literally never had one (1) single wholesome romances, it was literally never a love story, except! of course a romance that occured between two characters when they were still living human. But Nobody could see this because everybody was busy not understanding why Nicki and Lestat's relationship fell apart and why Nicki was mentally ill/depressed.

Honestly it's partially Anne Rice's fault, she made Nicki talked like in abstracts in his break-up scene with Lestat. He was all "your light" and "darkness in my heart" and shit, he spoke like a depressed tolkien character so how is anybody supposed to know what he's talking about. Plus, because Lestat never knew why Nicki was miserable in the first place, he couldn't make the readers understand either. But all the clues are there, it's not hard to piece together the whole picture.

Nicki was the son of a wealthy merchant, despite not being born of aristocrat blood, he lived a life in luxury and was afford the best education. Hell, his family was rich enough that with his allowances Nicki could afford lessons with Mozart. the best of best musicians of his time. Fucking Mozart. He was educated to become a lawyer, a respected member of bourgeois class. Now, Nicki's racial coding is very vague, but he had curly hair and dark skin, which made me wonder if he had Romanian heritage, but that doesn't have to be the case. Either way, to belong with the higher society of French European bourgeois was probably considered a great privilege for Nicki. But then he decided to pursue a career as a violinist and ran away with Lestat to Paris and threw all of that out of the window to live in poverty with Lestat. Now, consider how scandalous what all of that would have looked to his rich Parisian friends and his family, he eloped with his lover (another man) to pursue a doomed career in the arts, can you imagine what sort of vile insults were being said behind his back and into his face? Lestat mentioned that Nicki's friends actually visited Nicki once, and they never even bothered to speak to Lestat. Do you ever wonder why they visited Nicki in the shitty apartment he shared with Lestat? Is it simply social calls? now, life in poverty wasn't that big of a deal with Lestat, since his failure of an aristocrat family wasted most of their family wealth away and they mostly just lived in a shitty broken castle, all title no wealth. Lestat already experienced much hardship in life from a very young age, and doing lowly manual labours to survive isn't that big of a drop in quality of life for him. Of course Lestat loved the luxuries that Bourgeois enjoyed: the frock coat, the pretty jewelries, but frankly he enjoyed those things the way um, a poor gay kid from 1980s dressing up for balls enjoyed jewelries and designer clothes. He was never part of bourgeois class nor had he ever wanted to be part of it, not the way Nicki aspired to actually belong in that society or cared much for high society's rules. Nicki told Lestat once that he enjoyed "sin", at that point in their conversation, they were talking about arts and theatre, so yes im sure "sin" was partially about Lestat's love for low brow arts. However, it was also quite obvious that he was actually talking about their relationship. And yeah honestly it's just Nicki's internalized homophobia talking. I don't think Lestat agreed, probably cause his mom always told him it's not a bad thing to be different and to be "an outsider", but Nicki probably did not have parental figures or friends in his life who taught him to believe in these things.

Yet Nicki was still very much in love with Lestat, Lestat made him very happy. I know what he said in a heat of passion and despair afterwards, but Nicki did not come to Paris cause he harboured some sort of nefarious intentions. He simply believed that being in love with another man was inherently sinful and bad, because you know, internalized homophobia. Being in love with Lestat made him happy, so he believed that the happiness he felt must also be bad and sinful. Basically he felt that being happy is a symptom of moral corruption, he only deserved to be miserable and live in guilt at all times. When Lestat could not understand his pain, it made him feel even more alone and miserable. Yet despite all of that, when Lestat could not understand his perspective, he retracted to himself because he did not want to burden Lestat with his misery. Lestat was with him, and to Nicki, surely he could ignore his own pain a little longer, a little better because of it! Except that of course Lestat would leave him very soon. Lestat soon confided in him that someone was stalking him, and shortly after Lestat went missing and has gone AWOL for months! months! Lestat was told that Nicki was worried sick, and i think in fear and in paranoia and grief, Nicki started to suspect the very worst and most bizzare. Months and months of horrible grief only for Lestat to gift he and their friends a luxurious apartment and their theatre. Nicki felt abandoned, he felt insulted that Lestat thinks material wealth is more important to him than his company. Lestat was the only thing that made life bearable for Nicki, and it broke Nicki's heart that Lestat thought he could have a life without him. So when Lestat came back to him dead and wrong, all Nicki's love in his heart turned into hate, and he lashed out at Lestat. Lestat has made him feel so miserable and alone, so he intended to hurt Lestat back. In fact, at that point his grief and paranoia probably led him to convince himself that Lestat either never loved him or didn't love him anymore. Again, Nicki thought that one person who made life feel like worth living, that one person that gave his life any meaning at all, just didn't want him anymore.

Lestat spent 60 years in a painful relationship with Louis but he had so little self-love that he considered 60 years of pain better than 6 months of bliss. All because what? Nicki coped with being dead and the existential despair that it caused in a very diabolical and theatrical way and Louis coped with being dead by being a spiteful little bitch pretending to be more human than Lestat like it's a competition? idk man at least Nicki actually loved Lestat.

Hi!! these are Poltegoat and Luscangel, the monsters representing the Shadow and Radiant types! They are going to be used by the main character and rival of Ban Mah. I plan to do this format of post for all of the type reps (not sure if im going to do other monsters like this ^^;)

The theme for Poltegoat is that it starts off as a monster that’s very trusting, but goes through a stage of doubt and worry, but eventually becomes someone who learns to trust again while being able to stand up for itself

For Luscangel, I didn’t really have a theme in mind besides “funny snail with angel motifs with a candle on it’s back,” until I also got the idea for it to turn into lava. I did want it to look very friendly, but it’s harder to make it not look friendly. I also thought of making nods to the 9 choirs of angels, but it really didn’t go through except for maybe the last stage (it is very hard to convey human like appearance and clothes in snails).

1st Page: Design Changes

I had originally planned to do a before and after with the designs like I did for Micelium, but I got carried away with it. You can see their first drafts (and the first-first drafts of the first stages here) The general gist is:

POLTEGOAT:

Red coloring got swapped for the blue (Conveys the fact that it is a shadow monster better)

The first stage didn’t have the heart marking

Second stage only had it’s front paws disconnected, and the fur puff is on the paw instead of the leg. The tail was also shorter

The third stage lost it’s back fur tuft (?)  and gets marking on the back, and blue accents on the leg instead.The horn goes around the ear, and the ear sticks up. It also loses it’s goatee (bc I forgot about it..) The snake tail also gets eyes

LUSCANGEL:

First stage gets yellow at the bottom

Second stage gets more detail overall- starts to introduce the concept of it turning into lava, and gets an actual shell (that’s supposed to represent molten rock!) instead of still having a glass shell

Third stage  gets a canon at it’s shell, and is fully obsidian with yellow and red markings - the shell isn’t just made of glass anymore. Also more of the lava motif appears at the end since it’s turning black. The canon rim works as a halo and I thought that the red spots on it would be good at conveying the eyes of higher up angels, as well as the multiple wings

2nd Page: Foils

Since monsters get captured in cards, I thought it’d be fitting to call their alternate coloration “foils”. It’s basically the same concept as Shinies from Pokemon, but I wanted to have multiple because 1) there are shiny hunters that unironically think that shinies being more common lowers their value, and I like that shinies are easier to get, so there being multiple types of foils balences that idea, and 2) because they look cool

Poltegoat: The first foil is its “beta coloring” with the red instead of the blue, the second foil takes the colors of it’s counterpart Luscangel, and the third stage is supposed to represent how its type is “Shadow.” I’m not sure how well that’s conveyed, since I didn’t want it to be all dark colors, but I think the bright purple and blue contrast well with the black and dark blue, and it looks cool, and that’s what matters

Luscangel: The first foil is basically the trans flag. It was suggested by a friend and I liked the idea, and it looks great! I think it’s my favorite. The second is Poltegoat’s coloring, and the third is because of how it’s the “Radiant” type. Radiant is basically light and fire. It’s basically just the color of fire, I think the shell makes a good contrast and makes the other colors look brighter and warmer :)

Pixel Art

The sizes of these are 32x32, 40x40, and 56x56, and then upscaled to where they’re 10 times bigger on both sides, so they’re not super blurry. The sizes of the canvas are based on their sizes:

great news, i only have one character design sheet. i mean, one design and this one... art-but-not-really </3 my laptop is broken and so is my tablet, so i'm left with searching discord messages with hopes i'll find something. also, super happy to see other anons reply to my little question HDGFHD but onto the designs!

since i'm on anon i can't send a picture so! the first design ( https://imgur.com/d656MHg ) is for my snezhnayan oc, who is... well, half a ghost half a human. she was once a very popular and passionate singer in a snezhnayan theatre! and then someone sabotaged her. she lost her voice. then she tried to turn into the major character death tag but failed and celestia said "no, you're not dying, here's your pyro vision, now go and haunt the theatre." she's not enjoying her life. her design was more focused to give her, oh, like, pretty singer vibes, the pretty girls you'd see on pinterest but also... look a bit more genshin with the colors and stuff. overall this was my second more complex genshin design so... i like it. it's nice.

and now. back when i was actively playing anime rhythm gacha games, it was pretty common for people to edit the cards. you know. i did that! and some time i edited my alchemist lady into a card of my favorite love live character! i attached both original card and my edit (here https://imgur.com/a/pcIs6r4 ) and... i mean, her design is very self indulged because, grand reveal, i created her first as my genshin-sona but then she turned into an actual OC so. yes. but also, she's a traveler so she's allowed to have her clothes not fully fit the nation she's from. and besides i do plan on giving her alternative outfits from every nation she visited so... additional info, she also has a big fluffy coat with her. yeah.

one design is... lost somewhere. and the other is for, surprise, another snezhnayan OC who's based of slavic mythology and one day i sure will digital it. that's a lot post im sorry AHAJHDF 🌻

Hello everyone!

Today I finished a pack Ive been working on now for over a month! The first of my new creature packs that will cover the DnD 5e SRD! That might seem like a long time for only 6 creatures but since ive decided to revamp and redo things at a higher resolution I had an issue that I need to tackle head-on.

Humanoids have always presented something of a problem for me, firstly because I was never very good at drawing realistic poses (something KTech is very good at, which makes up for it) I was also not that great at drawing faces either but even these problems pale in comparison to the fact that fantasy roleplaying games, both DnD and pathfinder have an absolutely massive variety of humanoids, humans, dwarfs, tieflings, kobolds, goblins etc etc and drawing each of these as their own unique token is doable of course but very very time-consuming.

So.. With this revamp I started designing a better system for drawing humanoids that would work across the varied multitude of characters, ancestries and races that I might need or want to draw. Basically, heads, skins, clothes, weapons, skin colours, eyes, all matter of optional bits and pieces now fit a “standard template” so drawing and creating humanoids will be a bit faster and work with one another mostly! This is perhaps one of the most exciting things I'm working on and honestly, I’m very happy with how they look, working for both circle portraits and top-down views!

This first pack has a couple of basic variants of humanoid commoners to show off the idea a bit, still a lot to do but you can hopefully see where Im going with it!

ok i need to talk about this because im gonna loose my mind if i dont. first off, Anthro (Or anthropomorphic) means something not human being given human characteristics. an anthro animal character example would be, perhaps mickey mouse, or sonic the hedge hog.

a feral character is an animal. no human characteristics whatsoever. walks on four legs, has normal animal paws, nothing special about it.

TELL ME WHY IV'E BEEN TOLD (MORE THAN ONCE BY NORMIES) THAT IT'S ZOOPHILIA TO LIKE AN ANTHRO CHARACTER??????

WHATTTTT???? ok so.

there are varying levels of anthro to feral, its a scale. liking feral animals is, obviously, considered a BIGGG nono. cuz, its a straight up animal.

but when we start moving up the scale, maybe the character can talk or stand, its a grey area honestly. it REALLY depends on what you like about said character. we'll use Puss In Boots, for example. he is very cat-like, he even walks on four legs at times, but, he's a sassy dude with a Spanish accent and great style. HES COOL. so, yea its easy to understand why people would like him. as long as its not the fact that he's a literal cat that makes you like him, i personally dont see what's wrong with liking a character like that.

we move a little up the scale, and we've got characters like Haida Hyena or a real buff guy like that one wolf from BHA (IM SO SORRY I CANT REMEMBER HIS NAME FOR THE LIFE OF ME IM SOOO SORYYYRYRY) they talk, walk, have human personalities, wear human clothes, have human bodies or more human hands. i wouldn't think twice about someone liking a character like that. i mean there's a lot to like, the only difference is that they're a furry character. if all the traits of Haida Hyena were put into a guy, people would date him. sorry, but they would. he's a tall bassist dude. c'mon. again, it's the human traits people like, the fact that they happen to be an animal is literally only an artistic choice.

and then the final stage is the most human a furry character can be. characters designed like they are in Sweet tooth. more, humans with animal features than animas with human features. that's mostly considered to be ok with normies i think because they're so human.

I've only ever had this issue with normies though. most furries seem to agree that its the human features of these characters that everyone likes. not the fact that they're an animal. (cuz that's fucking weird) the fact that the characters are animals is merely a stylistic choice, and just makes them look cool. but nobody is liking these characters only cuz they're animals wtf come on think right.

TLDR; do some fucking research before spitting shit out ur mouth. people like the human traits of these characters, not the fact that they're an animal dumbass.

he can run!! he can smash!! he can make your tents!!! but also ffxv was my touch-grass game during the height of the pandemic and lord this guy is such an easy fave. great character design, great moveset, such a rich backstory too which is all a writer can ask for. he preserved me during the lockdowns and he continues to give me serotonin even now that the world has opened up. he's also the only other guy in my collection of true comfort characters.

"High Ranking Vulcan". heh. This intro though - it jkust makes me wonder the sheer potential of what couldve been for Trek. Bryan Fuller made a masterpiece called Hannibal. Not too sure on his hand in Trek - imho, it doesnt compare. ANYways. ugh i love seeing hte discovery warp downwards like that Owosekun - love her name such nice colours. consistenty good colours in this show for sure. i like how goldy inside the bridge is oh interesting. what an odd source of warp power its insanely cool though. that CANT be good for stamets. is that foreshadowing did you call her what she will become damn stamets can you be like idk a bit likeable tho please. like plenty of characters who are catty af but likeable in some way if even 1%. ugh. hi tribble. keep tribblin OO SO BLUEEEE SO PRETTYYY This is so weird to me in how this show literally comes out 2 years AFTER AOS3 in terms of production quality.

such lovely colour grading everyones GLOWINGGG there are certainly some wonderful visuals in this show ughhhh Saru, the dust speaker is that a klingon archery set what is that HAHA i wish nah its a torture kit sorry cornwell yelling like that was kind of cringe lolll this pretty blue dust dome that ash and burnham are in is so pretty ugh something im gonna just never take seriously, "Ash x Burnham" nah get out yeah yeah however, Kirk delivered this line beyond any other human's capacity what an empty ass kiss god its so forced. another huge problem with this show is they treat these characters like we know them already but bruh everyone feels so much the stranger to me, even though we are past the halfway point of season 1. is just so weird. i am not invested in like any character, even ones i really thought i would/wanted to be but its liek the show takes them away from me i like how the klingons have a definite accent when they speak terran now L'Rell is so striking looking i love her eyes such a piercing look

see like i WANT to like this away party but like i kind of dont have any real reason to like any of these characters especially with the utter animosity stuff that never got really properly resolved. like between saru and burnham. it feels almost uncomfortable. to me the viewer watching from outside ofc. thats a really pretty flower i dont like this film style it feels too tacky so many stupid zooms so cheap feeling it feels like star trek, Teen Wolf edition. literally feels like its filmed int he same way as things like Teen Wolf that were almost 10 years earlier. its so janky. zero patience and sense to appreciate the scene itself without all this ridiculous cinematic embellishment. its so unnecessary. if even this show did this less, this show would legitimately be 7x better. saru looks so beautiful with that warm white rear light this is such a gorgeous instance of practical effects and they got the PERFECT actor to don saru Ash looks like someone ive literally known in my own life 😭 i love these red jewels on L'Rell's armour/clothing costume and design department did a great great job in this show's production - i have no beef with them.

Since character design is something you clearly are great at: what are some important things you've learned about it via trial and error?

oh gosh you are making me blush

this ended up being kind of all over the place and long but here goes!

1. Fundamentals

You might have heard this many times already but shape language and silhouettes are important there are many great videos on youtube about these fundamentals!

2. Colors and patterns

Additionally, the human brain has this fun thing where it likes patterns and recognizing patterns

Can you recognize these?

These are literally just different colored blocks but I'm pretty sure you can recognize at least 2 of them if you are a Danganronpa fan. And I bet it's Kokichi and Monokuma. The thing about them is that they have one very strong association in their character design, and that's a checkered pattern and a black and white split. No one else in any of the game casts have this visual quirk. It's their own individual design, which makes them recognizable.

3. Themes and concepts

On the other hand, you can try to make the character be recognized as a concept/theme. Dr is pretty good practice ground for it if you are making ocs since every character is supposed to have a specific skill/career. Let's look at Kirumi.

I see a lot of people say that her design is bland but I think a part of the issue is that a lot of the ndrv3 cast wears white/black/monochrome, which is why she sorta gets lost in the sauce so to speak. (Additionally the black and white could have been more contrasted but I think that was a style choice since the series uses a lot of washed-out colors) imagine if she was the only character in that cast that wears those colors, she would stand out more.

But one thing that's very clear about her is that she is a maid. She has some clothing pieces that make it clear, like the apron dress and the headpiece (I don't know what it's called I'm sorry). And the thing is they could have just put her in a basic french maid outfit but they actually tried to add her personality and what she would wear into it. (WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT BTW MAKE SURE YOUR CHARACTER WOULD ACTUALLY CHOOSE TO WEAR THE OUTFIT UNLESS IT'S NOT THEIR PERSONAL CHOICE)

Something that I cannot stop gushing about is her gloves though. The metal rings make me think of door knockers ("knock knock, housekeeping!") and I think that's very clever that they have been added to her gloves. It is also a detail no other character in any of the other games has, which makes it recognizable to her.

Kirumi does not only have a maid theme, but she also has a spider theme going on. (as you can see with the web design on the apron dress). I think they could have pushed a bit more with the spider theme but I think it still works.

So what I'm trying to say is try to make your character have at least one unique design choice to them, be it a pattern, an accessory, a theme.

4. Don't be afraid to push your characters to look different from one another

one of the main points that I realized at the start is that don't try to make your character look attractive. Sometimes this can hinder you from making an interesting cast of characters. (this is partly about the same face syndrome, but this also goes for body types). It might feel very weird and not look great at the start as you are exaggerating features but trust me. Prioritizing the uniqueness of the character over how much your friends would want to play lip guitar with them really helps in the long run.

Once you get used to it, your characters will start to look prettier again when you are tuned to it but they will also look more diverse with their facial and body features!

(And my entire cast! I think they look different enough from one another for them not to be mistaken for one another even if you made them bald '<___< hopefully...)

I think those are the most important things that I figured out about character design! Remember that I'm self-taught and my personal experience isn't the one and only way of designing. So don't take my suggestions as the law.

And if there is anything to take to heart from this post, it's that one of the most important parts is to make them recognizable and memorable.
