(sorry for editing to keep things out of tags) (also preface that I ship pretty much anyone with anyone but that car lando, land oscar and char los are by far my favorites)

ok first and foremost I have to laugh so hard at them choosing Lando and Oscar?? as "pure PR" when

car|ando is quite LITERALLY used as Formula 1 PR ?? the official accounts of Ferr/ari, Mc|aren, Carlos' personal socials, Quad|rant,LN 4, F1, TV networks, Netflix and DTS,the whole of the Vegas race and every. single. sponsor. use car|ando to boost visibility. that's not a commentary on the validity of their friendship at all but it is quite literally a PR bromance that rakes in views and engagement

let's all be honest here the Mc|aren media folks are still hardcore car|ando people and can only bring themselves to remember the land|oscar ship name once in a blue moon (I have mixed feelings about that but I'm also not a fan of containment breaches so ig I'm relieved one of my ships isn't used as social media corporate currency??)

people's biggest complaint/compliment (depending on who's speaking) for Oscar is that he doesn't play up for cameras the way Carlos and Daniel do and struggles at PR !! literally he was only a little bit better at this in Prema and only because he'd known most of those boys for 5+ years already and their audience was tiny!

every single comment from a non fandom F1 fan on land|oscar content is how unusually shy Lando is around Oscar or how Oscar needs to "come out of his shell" and "not make Lando work so hard"

and Daniel "Mr. F1 PR Department" Ricc|ardo????? are they seriously saying Lando and Oscar (who are still trying to figure out how much they can even casually touch each other) are PR when Daniel and dan|do ticks every single bromance box????

like who the hell but a twitter user who ships rpf like it's a government conspiracy would pick land|oscar out of all Lando ships for a fake or publicity friendship when they literally don't do any of the pretend gay stuff or the horseplay or the memes etc. that is literally the wildest take I've heard in yeARS

anyway as usual I thought creepily deeply into this and decided to spend my time unable to sleep typing an essay weeeeeeeeee

see I was mostly lurking part time during the dando era so I wasn't sure but fr why isn't there this "competition" between dando and carlando like there is with carlando landoscar?? dando was MAJOR gay fandom service by comparison and they've consistently spent more time together outside of racing weekends and hobbies than Lando and Carlos since Carlos has always spent most of his travel and downtime during the season with Isa and now Rebecca. Daniel and Lando go on little excursions together even now and he was with Lando much longer as a teammate than Carlos.

so for people who've left reality to the point of thinking these men are in a genuine secret gay romance competition for Lando… surely Daniel/dando should be the ultimate enemy number one?? especially when evidence immediately surfaced that Carlos' thirst posts on Lando's bday were his side of the thirst posts Rebecca did the same day from their holiday right after the Brazilian GP, whereas Daniel took Lando with him in a small group of close friends to the desert after Vegas. if I were someone who thought that all F1 girlfriends are "PR escorts" - or whatever bullshit is the latest sexist woman-hating theory of choice - then I'd be so mad at Carlos for "ditching" Lando for Rebecca and then Daniel posting not one but two beautiful, moody pics of traveling with him. forget that Lando only reposted Oscar's birthday post, surely Daniel posting on the account he only made because of Lando with a camera he only bought because of Lando pictures OF LANDO is the biggest source of betrayal !!

I just. cannot imagine wanting rpf to be this exhausting and enraging when you can just ship all of them and also not create conspiracy theories about girlfriends that keep getting disproved at every turn.

but yeah as anon #2 said it's not even like carlando are super close friends outside of F1 (as Lando himself said) the way George and Alex are but I don't see anyone in rages about galex or their irl relationships or saying they can't be shipped with any other driver?? maybe I just don't see it on my feeds but it's definitely not as big a deal as the carlando exclusivity stuff that's been bubbling up everywhere.

and exactly! as sweet as it is that Lando and Carlos pair up in the few moments the drivers are all doing media duties etc together it's also what every. other. driver. is doing with their buddies. sometimes they stand in larger groups but those moments are when they get to catch up with guys outside their own team. Oscar and Logan find each other every single time and a lot of that time they spend away from the other drivers. Max and Charles, Yuki and Pierre, Esteban and Lance etc etc. much as I would love it if this implied that all of these driver friends are suckin and fuckin their bros on the DL it's tragically not the case.

I feel like maybe?? carlando as a ship developed into part of the fans going larries level of problematic is because the Lando they watched with Carlos was so young and literally formed a lot of his F1 persona around Carlos. that version of Lando is basically a handy self-insert for fans worshiping Carlos.

as we know Carlos does NOT view himself as the number 2 driver even when he in every technical sense is. so it speaks to just how much of a little uncooked chicken nugget Lando was during their season together that Carlos has never once viewed Lando as competition and even now sees him as a lil cub kind of like Max V does with Lando. they're happy Lando succeeds but he's not classed in with the guys they really get pissed off with or perceive as threatening.

Lando talked here about how he spent a lot of that first season in F1 anxious about his performance compared to Carlos and his own future in F1 and that he largely had to work to put on a smiley face for the cameras. I actually think that entire first half of the clip is a great example of how the carlando chemistry came from Carlos being someone who loves being silly and laughing a lot in his time off the track and how convenient that was for Lando to help hide how much he was going through privately. when the media decided that Lando is meant to be adorable and silly all the time, someone as easy to get along with as Carlos was perfect timing. did nothing for Lando's actual personal struggle behind the scenes but it kept up a solid boundary between Lando and the media. I can't find it now but there's that old interview of Carlos being dismayed at Lando one day being sullen and quiet even when Carlos tried to joke with him - he was half kidding but Lando looked a bit uncomfortable and said "yeah I don't know why I'm like that sometimes". then it just got joked off as Lando being a moody teenager (which Lando visibly didn't really like).

so like, this is what their relationship has always been! Carlos represents a place Lando can go to and not have his demons or his problems follow him. and for someone who has always been used to physical affection, Carlos' lack of boundaries has always been extremely welcome as an endorphins boost.

but let's be honest here that's exactly the same super physically comfortable chemistry Carlos had even with Max and now has with Charles. I know the charlos of it all is probably a whole other hornets nest but fact is that to Carlos, Charles is equally a grown man to him and they can do the whole european buddies jokey flirting thing without it being weird. not the same as with Lando…

I've got to point out that when you look at comments not from fangirls, carlando as a "ship" is seen by F1 fans as big brother and baby brother or even dad and son relationship. this video was recently posted again from the stream where Carlos very firmly shut down people asking him to kiss Lando. whereas he'll jokingly ask Charles for a kiss and call him "darling" while being pretend domestic together. it's pretty damn clear that Carlos will joke about the bromance with Lando to an extent but Lando is The Baby and a little brother. Carlos wants to take care of Lando and he does not view him as a contemporary the way he does with Charles.

and considering Lando still suffers from the same anxieties and getting stuck in his own head, I've said before how I love that hanging with Carlos can still clear those cobwebs away. they can golf or just chat about any old bullshit and Lando can escape whatever is hanging over him for a while.

I truly do not know why people find that very real relationship insufficiently sweet and amazing and think that imagining them to be secret boyfriends is so much better ?? I mean absolutely rpf it the way I do for fun! but how bad does someone's gaydar have to be to think Carlos would have a single clue what to do with a penis that's not his own lfhajhfsa. American fans need to spend some time watching European friend groups and realize the insecure nohomo thing does NOT exist outside the US.

idk how many girlfriends have to get harassed or how far the media will push it before Lando or Carlos actually get sick of the whole ship thing but I think I speak for all rational carlando fans when I say that it's well past time to throw this whole conspiracy theory away. folks need to enjoy their friendship and ship them how you want for fun but don't push this thing to the point of even more discomfort. or worse make them change their behavior to get the focus off of them.

especially when you come to the landoscar of it all and deciding that it's a battle of the rpf ships. we've all seen those delusions in other fandoms result in baffling amount of hate that cross over into real life and how ugly it gets. carlando comments are already pretty out of control on Lando content that doesn't even remotely involve Carlos and it's bleeding onto McLaren content that involves Oscar.

I guess if I really make a few leaps in lofic then I can maaaaybe kind of see ? where that insecurity is coming from with those shippers. I do not understand it but if I had to guess it's possibly that we're seeing a totally different side of Lando than usual since he's been teammates with Oscar. and that for once, Lando's growth isn't dictated or based on his teammate being a big PR personality.

professionally he has said many times he's been pushed by Oscar into his own best F1 season yet. he's also matured a huge amount when it comes to his own failures and we've never heard him be so grown up and balanced as when he talks about how happy he is for Oscar and McLaren that Oscar got the sprint win before he did. that the "hurt" he feels over it is entirely because he is angry at himself for making mistakes. him doing the season farewell video and being able to ruefully joke but be genuinely proud of Oscar is so different from little Lando slumped and barely clapping during Carlos' departing speech or Lando looking out of it and a bit annoyed when Daniel would still try to do jokes after a particularly brutal result. Lando is behaving on his own terms in his own team now. he's The Guy.

Lando's grown UP. we're seeing a very finished article in him. and it's not because he's reacting to who Oscar is it's because Oscar's just letting him be. he's seen Oscar choose not to fake it or play up for the media and realized 'oh! I can be upset or depressed if I feel like it and not dance like a puppet when people want me to be fun and silly!'. he saw Oscar's urgency to prove himself after finally getting a seat and Lando realized that Oscar was just assuming that Lando would default be the superior! he saw Oscar backing away or leaving room for Lando to be the fan favorite and Lando's natural instinct was actually to let himself be quieter and take up only as much space as he wanted to! he's spent the whole season being asked to be an F1 global representative all on his own with no bromance attached and Oscar is there back at the garage or the McLaren motor home smiling and congratulating him like always!

in short, Lando suddenly has room and space to be whatever he chooses and Oscar has been open to any and all of it. they became immediate competition for each other without needing to hastily construct a friendship or bromance to negotiate it. Oscar shrugs off his own disappointments and doesn't gloat or overdo his achievements and oh! isn't it nice that he isn't expecting anything from Lando except respect! Lando doesn't have to navigate anyone else!

that's why I refer to them as sort of I guess a plantonic crush? I did this equally huge and weird post about this here. Oscar has admired Lando for a long time and Lando has absolutely loved having a teammate who doesn't view him as a baby or a kid brother. Lando is so intrigued by how calm and solid and strong Oscar is and Oscar still cannot quite believe Lando is right there in his life and as his teammate. the little cautious dance they're doing is absolutely precious but also because it's so intensely earnest. they both have such big long term plans for themselves and they are so happy to be working on those together that they aren't doing the whole let's find a schtick or do a bromance thing. if it takes them a long time to settle what their relationship is then so what!

and I guess for people who want to think that Carlos and Lando's friendship is 'superior' to every other relationship in their lives (as if Max F will ever be dethroned in Lando's life) it's got to take the already unstable mindset and upset it even more to see Lando personally growing into someone they don't really recognize and at least in some part because of Oscar.

because the carlando shipping that I see from these more extreme people (and I fully acknowledge they're a loud minority) basically eradicates Lando's agency and identity outside of finding Carlos hilarious or hot. they misinterpret Carlos being the authoritative role into Carlos being fully in control of carlando and Lando basically dancing to his tune and reacting to him. they never post the serious, slightly darker side of Lando because it's typically not associated with Carlos. unless it's Lando missing Carlos or upset that Carlos isn't around lol.

so I can only imagine that Oscar's arrival coinciding with a more mature and focused Lando who allows himself to want to be taken seriously and no longer spends all of his on-camera time screeching with laughter or flailing around is ummm not to the taste of those people. Lando still has screeching fits sometimes but he's overall a much calmer person and it's nice to know that when he laughs with Oscar it's always genuine since Oscar has no idea how to play up for laughs. it's probably why Those Fans are now aggressively posting Lando and Carlos doing the driver's parade together (again, among all the other paired off drivers lol) with "ALWAYS TOGETHER" AND "ALWAYS COMING BACK TO EACH OTHER" as if fate is trying to stop carlando from being the only thing that matters. because I guess in their minds, Lando can't just be believed when he says that Carlos is an F1 buddy the way other guys have F1 buddies and Lando can't grow up and have a personal best year without Singapore being solely about carlando and how Carlos took care of him (fuck off???? Lando would've gotten P2 or P3 anyway bc he had an excellent race??) and Lando won't be heard when he says actually Silverstone was his favorite race not Singapore because Carlos Carlos Carlos.

of course Lando can't have found a new kind of friend and teammate in a guy like Oscar who is wholly unlike Carlos in every single way imaginable because that would mean there are parts of Lando that don't suit Carlos and carlando. it would also imply that Oscar is a better teammate for Lando than Carlos was (which is true) and that oh no if Lando is no longer pining for Carlos to be his teammate again (he isn't and he said so) then that means Lando exists outside of carlando and that means they're gonna have to pile extra hard onto proving every single instance where carlando is still one of the most important things in Lando's life (it isn't and that wouldn't be healthy). it would also imply that purely platonic friendship between Carlos and Lando is basically pointless no no they've got to be fucking and in romantic love that's what makes them special not just the fact that they love being in each other's company and have full and happy lives outside each other.

I just.

reaalllly hope it all calms down soon and they leave Oscar out of this mess.

and thank FUCK Oscar's gf Lily has been fully accepted by landoscar fans from the start because the amount of vile hate and petty exclusion Rebecca is receiving makes it honestly a little bit hard for me to be ra ra carlando even just for fun right now.

will it stop me being carlando trash in the tags? no. but my conscience is cringing a bit.

a/n: co-written by @nutellani and i. this was originally just going to be stored in my notes app because i had a big brain thought but then i decided that tumblr doesn't have enough tig content and i needed to help change that. i got stumped on a few things, so i of course asked my lovely mutual nova for some assistance <3 (tysm!!)

aaaanway, enough about that, here you go:

they obvi went to the concert in texas. they probably got tickets for both arlington and houston bc rich people yk

nash wore a sparkly cowboy hat and so did libby

(idc what you say, in my head, he likes glitter and i will stand on that hill)

in fact they all wore sparkly cowboy hats (xander forced grayson), but nash and libby's were matching

grayson ofc is wearing all black, very rep era but he's secretly a lover girl at heart. he also likes midnights because let's face it- who doesn't??

but everyone convinced him to get his jacket embroidered with "ts" and a few snakes along the sleeves and back to pull together the whole rep look

i don't think i finished talking about nash and libby?? anyway, matching sequin cowboy hats, nash wore a flannel with patches from different albums

him and libby spent a whole night designing it

libby wore a tee shirt from the midnights album

and the night before, nash and libby painted her favorite lyrics on some black cargo pants and some cute lil doodles

nash totally wrote N+L on one of the pockets inside a big red heart because i said so

very cute couple moment

thea is in her rep era because she's a badass so she wore all black with some maroon to make her outfit pop, she got her nails done and everything

girl was drop dead gorgeous

rebecca went with a more simplistic look, lavender flowly dress just under the knee, with a cardigan. yes, the cardigan. rebecca gives off very mellow and soft vibes so i think that's why she went with an evermore themed outfit

now, onto avery. i think her favorite albums is midnights and rep because of the vibe of the songs and overall it is just SO HER and i feel like she wore a shirt with the midnights album cover on it. she also wrote her favorite lyrics from the album on the front of the shirt with a fabric pen or something of the sort. i can also see her wearing a rep outfit too tho!! she is rich so since she could go to two concerts and wear both outfits ig lol

jameson is a total swiftie!! xander is too but we'll get to that next this boy would really like 1989 and a good handful of songs from lover because they remind him of avery

he would wear something 1989 themed but also something sorta flashy, i think

now moving onto max

she for sure loves the love triangle in folklore/evermore but also enjoys midnights

she radiates night owl energy because she'll stay up until 4am to finish a really good plot twisty dark romance novel and the whole track (midnights 3am edition) reminds her of her favorite ships. she makes edits and you can't convince me otherwise. although max does love evermore, she would totally love speak now era taylor and therefore would wear that really pretty purple sparky dress on the album cover!!

xander totally bought it for her

and with max looking like a literal princess, he would be mad blushing

and when he snaps out of his daze, he would tell her how pretty she is because let's face it- max is beautiful

now, as mentioned before, xander is a hardcore swiftie and i will always think this

he is a lover lover, so definitely went with a hat of the colors on the album

totally bitch-slapped toxic masculinity in the face by wearing pretty pastels

and definitely had the jacket from the yntcd MV!!

we love his nomad cowboy vibes

he also definitely vibes along with whatever libby likes too because he's down bad-

definitely shed a few tears during all too well ten minute version even though he tried to hide it

this isn't about her though

he loved the song and performance for 22 since he's in his 20's and his family is always telling him to loosen up

attending this concert definitely helped him

and when cardigan plays, she would grab thea's hand and dance with her, foreheads touching

bonus: i almost forgot to include oren and alisa, im so sorry, im very sleepy!! anyway, oren refuses to wear anything other than his usual attire meanwhile this concert is one ofbthe very few instances where you see alisa in casual clothes. not many people know (other than the hawthornes of course) that she's a swiftie because she always acts so professional. she wears that one red letters shirt that says "who's taylor swift, anyway? ew." and everyone does a double take cus she also has her hair down and doesn't look formal lmao. during some songs avery looks over her shoulder and swears she could see oren have the slightest smile and head-bumping along to the music.

to wrap it all up, they would ALL HAVE THE NUMBER 13 PAINTED ON THEIR HANDS IN DIFFERENT COLORS AND FONTS!!

and also a little extra because me and nova were having big brain moments and i HAVE to include it, it would be a crime if i didn't

They would all scream to paper rings but guess what else?? a PROPOSAL!!

my nashlibby brainrot needed to be included even more:

"i love shiny things but id marry you with paper rings" is so them because even tho they're rich, they value the little things <3

libby is so into the performance, it takes her a minute to realize that the stage screen is on her

she's confused because why would the cameras be on her??

and then taylor would point just behind her to where nash was on one knee

the ring wasn't shiny, it was literally a paper ring

nash didn't have a full on speech planned out

but of course libby would say yes

they kiss, it's on the big screen and everyone (taylor, backup dancers, everyone) cheers

it was caught on camera by practically everyone which leads to their engagement going viral all over tik tok and other media platforms!!

after the concert, back at Hawthorne House, they made a resin/epoxy(i think that's what it's called) mold to preserve the ring, and keep it from getting damaged

and the end because not only can i not think of anything else, but it's 4am while i save this to my drafts-

i know we're all laughing at the Ten Years In The Joint line but i feel like there are other Choices that were made in that dub and i gotta just spew my thoughts a sec (as someone who's only seen clips):

people call kiryu "kazuma" the whole time, which to me feels like "oh let's switch the names so it makes more sense to an american audience"... but then they kept shit like honorifics and aniki??? do you really think the average 2005 american is gonna know what oyabun means????? huh????? ppl being referred to by their last names happens in english and is this a concept they'd be exposed to if they, like, read harry potter or any nonfiction text where someone is quoted. so they change that to make it less japanese and then insert very context specific japanese words into dialogue and go "oh that's comprehensible"??????? did the someone write his name out as kazuma kiryu and the staff just went with it without knowing/checking what the og was like???? i want the story. so anyway if you see me short circuit over "kazuma-chan" that's why. it's the duality

i know most ppl familiar w this dub already know that THE mark hamill played majima and that he doesn't remember doing it but like. i really need ya to fuckin bask in that a sec. what

and on that note, idk that much about VA direction, but this dub sure sounds. it really makes my ears. like i don't know how they managed to make all of these good to decent actors sound so awkward but??? huh (and a lotta that's probably that I'm just seeing funnybad highlights and typical dub timing restraints AND that i tend not to like dubs in the first place but man...)

oh just found out nishiki's va played tanis in the animated dragonlance movie. shoutout to my dragonlance fans. i ate that shit up when i was ten and still haven't gone back to reread it properly but it's lodged in my heart somewhere i can't quite see

and like?? ik kiryu's va from this dub came back for LAD and I've heard he sounds better (though i haven't compared myself for fear of spoiling shit) so like,, gonna chock it up to a direction thing and move on

ok i don't KNOW if the "you retarded or just deaf" and prison bitch lines (and similar others) were in the og but i get the impression that they weren't, so like... they just did that??? they were like "needs more swears" and just put them in wherever for the vibe and i mean. sure ig? (and i mean a lotta similar dubs of that era really leaned into excessive swearing like that for the hardcore/gritty vibes they thought it gave the media. honestly i tend to find the result really endearing, minus the bigotry that often comes with it (as it does with the examples i pulled))

*Clear's throat* Also, about the TM rumour. Back then, my only source to know about fandom updates was through FB (😬 cringe, ik, yes, but that's the only media platform tht ik😭). It doesn't help my situation either, when one of my irl friends (she's a hardcore stan of WGM) and told me about the "official" rumour about TM & NE getting real b/t/s. Plus, idk the rumours were made up by het shippers and antis. My adolescent brain still can not dissociates which one is an anti, and which one is not. 😭

And about MH, sorry I didnt worded my words right. I meant to say that, there were also a rumour (or a fake post ig) saying, MH hates being ship and find it disgusting. Especially being ship with his closest best friend. It was in a different language, closest-yet-not to my mother tongue.

So, me being a gullible pre-teenager believes those posts and rumours. Concluding that MH DOES hates it and both him and TM, are straight. Therefore me, jumping off the ship towards the vast ocean... wailing as I swimmed back to the shore, and hid in the deepest part of island's forest to rethink my life choices.

Thanks for writing in with the details. I suspected it was WGM because some very intense shippers were birthed from that show - because that's what it is designed to do. I have no idea what TM and NE's real life vibe is but I will never forget the vivid disappointment on her when he walked out in that first ep. I may have formed a grudge instantly. Lol just joking. They seemed a bit oil and water at times, but who's to say how they felt off screen? What we do know for sure is that the whole thing was scripted, and if you were to torture yourself by rewatching it (not recommended) you'll notice all of SHINee trying and mostly failing to act. That part is entertaining to watch lololol. Minho and Jjong going so overboard just cements how fake it all is. Sigh.

I always hear those anti-shipping rumours about various pairs, but tbh there is footage of Minho looking at neon 2Min signs quite happily so it's hard to believe that's true. Maybe the comment was about his dating scandal with Changmin (loooool). Maybe he said he didn't like that because I think Changmin is his bestie. But isn't it interesting that both Minho and Taemin had dating scandals with their best friends? Huh.

I should clarify: I've been a shawol for just over 2 years (Dec 2019). 2Min as a ship has existed for 14+ years though. When I read through old shipping stuff, WGM and Danger era are some low points supposedly. Lol. I think a lot of people jumped ship. Yet a lot of interesting things happened in and around then so idk. I have the benefit of hindsight and I never assume anything so it's all fun to me.

This newest addition in The Underestimator Mixtapes series is the first and only one in the series that's not downloadable but only uploaded on Mixcloud and there's a perfectly good reason for this.

It's compiled by punk /hardcore /indie /garage rock /pop demos, covers, album tracks or reworks of older stuff, all released during the quarantine isolation of the Covid-19 era (2020-21), songs born of frustration or inspiration from artists channelling their creativity to music despite the unprecedented challenges the pandemic has brought upon society and people, so it's only natural that these tracks, endorsed by The Underestimator blog, are only available for online streaming and promoted by offering the available Facebook /Instagram or Bandcamp links for everyone to track down the songs and buy the music.

There's probably gonna be a pt. 2 in the near future since the songs were too many to be included in one file but for now, enjoy the music and go buy it from the artists themselves.

He actually helps a lot of students understand history even further for school through his novels

Anyways he goes by Specs because I say so

No one knows why that’s his pseudonym and Specs isn’t interested in explaining either. No one other than the newsies need to know it was born from a stupid nickname the newsies gave him :)

His research mostly comes from history books because of his genre which wouldn’t be a problem since he has loads and will voluntarily buy more if needed

Also yeah he makes a great director for the movies taken from his books

Mush

He’s a chef on youtube

Goes by Mush Meyers

So think if Gordon Ramsey and his youtube channel but make it mush

Yeah that’s it really

Ok but Mush is a jolly and friendly person

Other than just food vlogging he does cooking challenges and cooking tips too

Sometimes he does the cooking challenges with a friend (mostly henry but i’ll get to him later on in the list)

But he also vlogs his life

Which isn’t really often but he likes to sometimes

Let’s be real this boy is a fashion icon

So the only way their fans tell them apart is by that

A fan mistakens them for the other twin but they still respond to the other name because they don’t feel like there’s a need to correct them since they’re mostly known by Mike and Ike anyways. When the fan posts it on instagram and tags the twin they thought it was the twin that was tagged would comment “wrong twin but nice pic you two”

Here's the thing.

I admit I've been blindsided a bit by fan culture encounters on Tumblr and Discord -- personal encounters fan-to-fan in addition to specifically fannish discussions -- out of sheer ignorance. It's because I actually came at all o' this in kind of the opposite order to most people. That is to say, my proverbial 10,000 hours of badfic were all gotten out in notebooks, later Bank Street Writer files (not joking), then private Word docs. They are ancient floppy-era artifacts. The world's blessedly been spared like 95% percent of my juvenilia because there just wasn't an Internet, or there was only barely an Internet, to post it on. (I'm sure if there *had* been, I *would've* posted, and been terribly embarrassed for the rest of my life because yeah that's how I roll. :-P ) By the time the Internet was in full swing, what little 'fannish' stuff I was still doing was within the RPG world, on listservs (not joking), mIRC (still not joking), and somewhere in there I got hardcore into professional freelance writing for industry and wound up with almost no time for fanfic or even gaming. Then when that was done, I moved into pro writing and arting for my original IPs. Then in the middle of all *that*, the whole world took a fucking header into the arms of apocalypse, and I set my career aside to spend the next several years as a full-time nonviolence activist, (unsuccessfully) struggling to get people to rise up and demand nazis be removed from positions of power. It was only after I took a sabbatical from that for my own health -- as in, I could take a sabbatical, or I could end up dead, in prison, or in a straitjacket, those were the options -- and I was finally out of the whirlwind and honestly in a doldrums of scant energy or purpose, that I rediscovered fanfic and fanart. I did do LJ back in the day, but even there I didn't do much fan stuff. And every other social media platform's fannish communities, I more or less missed out on. I heard about Tumblr keyboard warriors and Twitter flame wars but never witnessed them, first because I wasn't there, and later on because I was only there to post quick update links for my original content. I still barely post on IG. Never been on TikTok, or Snapchat -- or Discord till very recently. So please understand, I missed ALL this shit! Yeah, I knew the Internet was a goulash, a scrapple loaf with gritty layers of drama for drama's sake, harassment, and even outright crime and hate-group recruitment. But I didn't understand what had happened to fandom and fannish forums -- or really *any* of the online spaces dominated by younger adults or teens -- during all the years I'd been gone. I had no understanding that it had moved from a place where a great number of the participants were neurodivergents of one kind or another -- just as I was, surprise surprise -- to a place where a neurodivergent (or even a neurotypical, apparently!) can so easily trip right into a minefield of unforeseen OUCH...from callouts and shunning straight on up to full-bore harassment, threats and stalking. O_o Even having seen some of the uglier SJ wars of the late oughts on Twitter and LJ, I would never have anticipated anything like (to take one example) these locust swarms of antis that seem to be able to chop out whole sectors of a fandom in a matter of weeks. I would never have anticipated being questioned about my fitness for a Discord based on someone I've been following on Tumblr because I think their art is pretty. I'm just constantly dropping my jaw like "hooooly shit, what bush did all this Lord of the Flies vibe suddenly jump out of??" Or else I'm taken back to that scene in Mad Max: Thunderdome, the one where the lost children mock up a frame resembling a TV screen to retell their half-historical folklore through.

It's a bit funny in the movie, if also rather sad. It's NOT at all funny here. It's not funny to have a community where the majority of folks haven't *really* studied anti-oppression discourse, or bell hooks/Foucalt pomo/deconstructionism, or the differences between Second & Third Wave feminisms and womanisms, or survivor psychology or any of that -- but they do have *just* enough of the lingo and the bullet points third-hand to garble it all up into this wild misreferenced munge, in service of...I dunno what to call it, even. Some weird sub-sub-culture war? Some neopuritanism? A sign that horseshoe theory might not have been QUITE as horseshit as I always perceived it to be?

Except it's all about people that...don't even exist.

-- Whilst people who absolutely *do* exist are energetically destroying the earth under our feet with impunity, which is an irony I could have died happy to never witness. And neither most apathetics NOR most activists are really even trying to stop them, and btw I fully don't get that, either. I wish I were referring here just to the behavior of actual minors, who'd at least be coming by it honestly, but sadly, I'm not. I'm also talking undiluted middle-school bullshit from people long since out of middle school. o_O

It's baffling AF. Each day I live through takes me further away from my own middle-school experience, and imho, that is one of *the* most wonderful things about unidirectional time. ;-) I...thought more people agreed?

Anyway. On the more personal level, here's the TL;DR: All I can do is offer apologies in advance when I don't know the terms or the etiquette, or when it turns out I was the only one who didn't know where the landmine was. I'd never claim the ancient days of fen were paradise (especially depending on who you were and whether you were the "right type" for a fandom :-( ), because they weren't. But they weren't quite this........COMPLICATED, either? I mean wow. *Just* being neurodivergent or just being in the older set would've made this all this confusing enough. Please remember that I'm both, and that I had this decades-long cryo-sleep right in the middle of things too. Be kind. I'll return the courtesy.

The Mosley Review: Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season 1)

For the longest time, the beloved Star Wars franchise was left in an uncertain spot of where it would go after the current and divisive Sequel trilogy. This new era of the franchise began in a strong and familiar place, went down a bumpy and different path, then ended on such a sour note that it seemed that there was no hope of recovery. The franchise was stained with too many mistakes with the wrong people in charge of the creative storytelling. Even the most hardcore of fans would agree that this was a new dark age for the franchise. That age of darkness came swiftly to an end once the gate keepers gave the keys to a team that studied what George Lucas had created and learned from it. This team knew that to make Star Wars great again, it would mean not doing something familiar, but rather something that is unexpected, new and expanding of the things that inspired the original creator. Jon Favreau got together with Lucas’ apprentice, Dave Filoni, and they got to work in creating the greatness that this series has become. Their love for this universe and the knowledge they've obtained over the years has culminated into this amazing achievement in storytelling. The spaghetti western, sci-fi fantasy and scaled down tones were expertly portrayed throughout the season and you feel the love and respect for what has come before it in every frame. From the first badass bar fight scene to the last shot of the season, this show is the shining example of what happens when you let the right hands take over the reins.

The cast across the entire season was top notch and fantastic all around. Pedro Pascal stars as The Mandalorian and he is every bit the Clint Eastwood "Man With No Name" type of hero I love. I love his determination, cold and almost humorless take on such a dangerous part of the galaxy. Even though his face is covered, he still emotes in the subtle art of body language and vocal tones. Every head tilt or change in speed or tone in his voice made you pay attention to every choice he was about to make. Carl Weathers was cool and commanding as the leader of the Bounty Hunter's Guild Greef Karga. Carl's charm and wit is on full display and he was a welcomed jovial spirit. The scenes between him and the Mandalorian carry so much weight and lighten the mood for a time. Nick Nolte voices the character Kuiil and he brings such wisdom and warmth to the screen. I liked that we delve into his history of indentured service to the Galactic Empire and how he got his freedom. Gina Carano was awesome and stunning as the former Rebel Shocktrooper Cara Dune. She has greatly improved as an actress and she is truly in her element. She natural plays Cara with such confidence and doesn't come off as arrogant as other would be female heroines. I loved seeing her fight and there is so much more to explore with her. Taika Waititi is always been a talented and hilarious actor and storyteller. As IG-11, he brings to life one of the most dangerous and terrifying hunter droids in Star Wars lore with such gusto. His dry and sometimes lifeless vocal performance gives such off an ominous tone, but by the end he penetrates your heart. I had more of an emotional attachment to this droid in one episode, then any of the other droids that have been introduced in the Sequel trilogy.

The villains and scoundrels of the series were on par with heroes as far talent goes. Werner Herzog was truly outstanding and chilling as an ex-imperial officer that goes by the name The Client. The amount of gravitas Werner brings to a scene is beyond understated and his scenes with the Mandalorian are the most tense and tonally satisfying. You feel the looming power of the Empire and the history of oppression behind his every word. Bill Burr joins the franchise as fellow bounty hunter and rogue as Migs Mayfeld. I loved his wise cracks, sarcastic and smart ass attitude. He was a perfect addition to the show and I want more of him. Natalia Tena was cool as an evil Twi'lek and I liked that there was a history between her and the Mandalorian. There's always a brute in every team and Clancy Brown was just that as the Devaronian Burg. It’s always good to see Clancy on screen and he was so much fun. Ming-Na Wen plays the assassin Fennec Shand and she was as deadly as she is beautiful. There is a mystery behind her eyes and I really wanted to explore her more. The main antagonist of the season was proof that this series is dealing with the remnants of the Empire that are still spread across the galaxy. Giancarlo Esposito was brilliant and intimidating as Moff Gideon. There is a level regalness and intelligence once he steps on screen. He is the face of the Empire and I can't wait to see more of his cunning plans come to life.

John Williams will always be the blueprint of how Star Wars music should sound. I was delighted to see that one of my new favorite composers, Ludwig Goransson, was behind the music. This series required a new and original sound that didn't sound like anything of the past. Ludwig brought his magic to the score and every bit of it is now iconic and beloved. I liked that it was somewhat tribal and electronic while still keeping the classical elements intact. Ludwig's score throughout the series is now up there with Williams as the best music Star Wars has ever had. Visually this show is stunning in every way. From the molten landscape of Nevarro to the lushes greens of Sorgan, every location has something to marvel at. The use of more practical effects and makeup are always appreciated and it makes each character and world all the more tangible. Jon Favearu and Dave Filoni have come together and crafted such a great story that is filled to the brim with exploration, adaptation and surprises that will blow the doors off to what is possible in this franchise. They are the hand that reached out and saved Star Wars from the Sarlacc pit it was being swallowed into. If you are a hardcore, moderate or even casual fan of Star Wars and you feel that the franchise is dead, fear not! There is still life to be had. This is the best Star Wars story to date and a must watch for all! Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+ and if you liked the show or my review, let me know in the comments below. i agree, it's not something you can learn. she's so talented- but that combined with her unreal drive and determination just makes absolute magic. she's worked so hard (i really resonate with what you posted before about her continuing in spite of everything). i adore jack!! he's so passionate (ref: august long pond- my whole heart) so glad taylor took a chance on him producing oh the swiftie life defo chose me. i've heard her songs since fearless era, but really became a fan in Red for sure (i was a literal baby :( ) how about you?

i think another thing i love about her like layered experience is the fact she’s been in the game for so long and killing it in every genre. i’m holding out for a punk rock album during bleachella lol. and i love red, i honestly became a hardcore fan before/during lover, like lover made me really go back and listen to her full body of work and i fell in love with rep, red, and lover. then folklore came out and betty was so good but THEN evermore came out and i feel like since the lover era the fandom has not known peace lol. but jack omg i love. i love/am so anxious that he’s lurking somewhere on here. he did an ig live a few weeks ago playing guitar and i just 😭😭😭 lol

Nation Musings

Warning: possibly unpopular opinion below. Don’t yell at me if you don’t like it.

TL;DR: A headcanon and my reasons why the hetalia countries (probably) won’t enter romantic relationships. Also has exceptions. I’m not very against shipping romantically, but I don’t really see the nations as loving one another, only being very close friends.

Anyway, I have a headcanon that, being nations, the Hetalia countries wouldn’t really enter into relationships at all***. Maybe they’ve loved someone or another nation in the past but I feel like it wouldn’t happen as they get older. They’ve all been through various conflicts, and most of the older ones (all the Allies and Axis and many others, probably any country that’s at least 200 years old) would have taken advantage of one another back in the day (ex. China and Britain and the Opium Wars). I see most of them as at least slightly manipulative and crafty, especially before modern day, no matter the country. At their core, countries have some sense of self-preservation, where they will do certain less-moral things to survive, including fighting any necessary wars or trying to make one-sided treaties and such. This leads, in my hc, to them being somewhat wary of other nation’s actions. When one of them suddenly starts acting friendly/flirty (in the long term) to their not-very-close acquaintance, they’d have to think: “Is/Are he/she/they just being nice/do they really love me, or do they want to get a piece of my economic growth/growing importance/global power?” Unless they’ve somehow NEVER fought and only had a mutual relationship of trade and prosperity and helping each other out, I feel like nations would be rather cautious when entering a “relationship” with each other. Even in modern day, when the worst that will happen is usually just a trade war or broken international relations, at most I think they’d be friendly bros or close friends or something. The only exception (maybe because of my personal bias) I can think of is Ancient Rome and China, because they grew on opposite sides of the world with little fighting between them and mostly long-distance trading, allowing a peaceful relationship without a lot of rocking the boat.

Additionally, most of the oldies know that things aren’t permanent. Boundaries will change, their people will change, and nations can and will disappear. They’ve probably all loved a human at some point and I feel like a lot of them might be cautious because of this too, because there’s a lot of risk involved with loving someone who might disappear before you. Additionally, a relationship that was going great might turn sour all of a sudden because of one rogue citizen or their leader’s schemes or whatnot, and that’s kinda hard to deal with when it might not even be their fault. Ig this isn’t really a good reason because I also see nations as sometimes saying “Whatever” and doing what their gut/heart says instead of what is logical, conservative, or ordered (which also means they might disrespect their leaders).

***My exceptions (there are a lot) are mostly the younger nations. Eg Liechtenstein, Iceland, Hong Kong, Seychelles, etc., nations who were pretty much born into the modern era and haven’t needed to do much deceiving and fighting yet. I feel like they’d be more trusting because they haven’t gotten stabbed in the back yet or maybe they’re just younger and haven’t seen more things. Idk I feel like this is discrediting younger people (and I’m one of them) but yeah the “kid nations” who haven’t seen as much action on the world stage as those Old Geezers are probably more prone to love than the rest.

The other exceptions are because of their portrayal in the anime/manga (which I know probably isn’t the best source to go off of but...) as well as actual “unions” where countries have merged. I can see Fruk, Spamano, AusHun, and Gerita being a thing, but I won’t ship them hardcore. I won’t reject them though.

Also: I personally don’t like the enemies to lovers trope which is probably why I have this headcanon, but if that’s your kind of trope then this post is probably irrelevant. Feedback is always welcome!

Ok so this is going to be long but basically I just don’t see why it would mean they broke up. Like I know they haven’t been seen together in a long time and she might want to stay closeted even if Taylor doesn’t whether they broke up or not but I don’t see why even if that were the case why she’d have to go so hardcore with it and I don’t think it’s for money either because she already has money and they’re in a TON of debt for being as rich as they are. Plus no amount of money should be enough to connect yourself with a family of criminals and possibly implicate yourself. I think it was done more for him and his family’s benefit to cover up what they’re doing than to benefit her and that’s probably why it came out of nowhere when it seemed like they were maybe finally going to break up. As to why she’d cover for them, I think she might have agreed to something like that in the contract with him and/or Scooter Braun that she signed 6 years ago before he was associated with the Trumps and their criminal activity and she can’t get out of it just yet. And as much as we all hate him I do actually think they’re kind of friends just from bearding for so long but don’t worry there likely won’t be a wedding. (And even if there was, because Lavender weddings DO still happen, it would be a short lived “marriage” and still wouldn’t convince me in the slightest that their relationship was real. Nothing in this world could tbh, they’re both way too gay for that! lmao) They just needed to temporarily be closeted and cause a distraction. Plus it brings more attention to their relationship that no one cared about before so more people will be paying attention to their breakup and will be more shocked and sad about it so it’ll make even more sense as to why she would need to seek solace from Taylor (and Taylor from her after she breaks up with Joe), a friend she supposedly hasn’t talked to in like two years, and how that might cause them to get together themselves and realize/revist their feelings for each other and maybe why it wasn’t working out for them with men. I don’t think they’ll really address it in a big way though, more just be seen together holding hands, kissing etc. until people just put two and two together and figure it out. If they’re forced to address it directly they’ll probably just say they’re bi or don’t like labels and I could see it being years before that happens if they can help it. That way they don’t out their past beards or seem like liars who faked all their relationships. But I think they’ll stop bearding for good after this so it’ll be even more obvious than before even if they’re not confirming it. And I think this will start soon with her breaking up with Joe this fall (either in September before his movies come out or in November after they come out) because they’ll both have gotten all they needed from each other (some PR and closeting and the longest term fauxmance they could probably hope for at “two years”) and they’ll both be conveniently busy anyway. He’ll be doing promo and her tour will be over or almost over but she’ll still need to film Cats so it’ll be perfect timing. Then Karlie and Josh will follow suit not too soon but not too long either and she and Karlie can “reconnect” at some point in this timeline and start coming out more in earnest all within the next year or so before her next album is announced (and the sooner the better so people won’t wonder how she had time to write so many love songs about her) so that she can be even more open about it in her music in the next era and maybe MAYBE even use female pronouns or at least stop using male ones for good. That’ll go a long way in people starting to pick up on it (there was already an increase in Kaylors this era and how often she meets Kaylor fans and they haven’t seen each other - in public anyway - once since then). I think (judging by what all the big Kaylor blogs with sources have been saying anyway) that this has been their plan basically since they first got together in 2014 but then Kissgate almost outed them too soon so they couldn’t come out in the 1989 era and had to go WAY underground (but not at first or in a super obvious way) and still beard for a while while until they could find the perfect time to come back together and finally come out. (after she’s brave enough to renter the spotlight for the first time in a while and they both broke up with their boyfriends) I don’t think the engagement was part of the plan to begin with but after they realized they had no choice I think they just had to roll with it and it’s probably been hard and might set them back a few months or something but they’ve already been through a lot so I think they’ll survive this too and come out of it even better and stronger than ever. As to why I still feel this is their plan and nothing changed recently to cause or because of the faux engagement, like I said I just haven’t seen as much proof as there is to suggest they’re still together. For instance, they haven’t been seen together for a long time because they’ve been hiding but there’s really nothing to suggest they have any hard feelings towards each other and they’ve just seemed happier than ever the entire time even to this day. They were spotted a couple times together but photos were purposely not taken and/or posted or were quickly deleted. The album is filled with all love songs about her and no breakup songs despite supposedly having gone through two breakups, around when the album came out Karlie presented an award she won when she’d never been involved in country music before, she was left off the Junior jewels T-shirt because she doesn’t want her like a best friend ;) and I think her hanging out with Katy Perry was just click bait so the general public would still think about them in the sentence but would think (or at least wonder about it) they weren’t friends anymore so that the rumors would temporarily go away and everyone would believe whole-heartedly in their beards and not think they were faking relationships or cheating on them. Karlie’s Dad also told a fan (with the username reputationisaboutkarliekloss on IG) in February or March that they were still friends, when asked they kind of avoid the question but suggest that they are and Karlie still likes Taylor’s posts. Even Abigail liked the engagement post and would have no reason to care or even know let alone support her if she and Taylor broke up or were never together. Everyone knows and is in on it and all the big Kaylor blog’s sources have been saying they’re fine even after it happened. (And if they weren’t why would Taylor have still been so happy and seemingly gung-ho about coming out, or at least dropping gay hints, last night if she had no real reason to anymore?) So although I have no way to 100% prove that not having any sources myself I do believe they are in fact still together (and I personally believe have even been engaged for a while now but not everyone thinks so) and planning to come out to some extent within the next year. They’re smart girls who always have a plan when it comes to their careers so I think we just have to trust them, have faith in their process right now and just wait and see what happens before we make any snap judgements (I think the song with Hayley was just her trolling us/fueling the rumors so we won’t know what to think but will know we weren’t crazy about her being gay at least). After all they didn’t spend 4+ years being the perfect soulmates for us to be weak Kaylors! #Kaylorrisein20gayteen (or at least 2019) ❤️🏳️‍🌈☕️Ps.
