Where I've been

Hi everyone! It's been a while. Wow, almost a whole year since I've used this blog, can you believe it? As you can see, I'm not dead. Most of you probably don't mind or care that I've not used this blog for so long, but I thought I'd give you an update post anyway. This might be a bit of a long post, but I want to get it out there.

Why have I been inactive?

There isn't one single reason why I stopped posting, really. I just sort of slipped out.

When I started this blog, I wanted to post incorrect quotes daily. I would have a queue set up to post every day, and I would look through the internet to find more quotes to add to the queue. And for a long time, this worked really well. But then, it was harder and harder to find new quotes and memes, and it felt more like a chore to come up with a new post. I was burnt out, and I had other things on my mind. I got interested in other fandoms, and I started university. I also started to slowly lose interest in this fandom, and as much as I tried, I didn't have any inspiration to make more incorrect quotes or make memes. The long delays of the Uzumaki anime didn't help either (I'm still excited for it though!).

I also felt kind of done with the incorrect quotes format, as I felt I was just copy/pasting jokes from other media, so my content never felt original. So I just stopped posting.

Going forward

I've wondered for a while what to do with this blog, as it's been inactive for so long. I've decided to keep the blog up, because to this day I still get notifications from people liking my posts and following me. And the fandom has been wonderful and kind to me ever since I started posting, and I appreciate you all.

But the question is: will I start posting again? Maybe. Though I don't think I'll keep up the incorrect quotes format. I've considered writing reviews of Junji Ito's stories, and of the Uzumaki anime when it comes out. I think that could be a good path forward for the content of this blog. Though I can't promise that I'll post often, as I'm still in university and I'm more active in other fandoms on my other blogs. I also have polls now, so that could open the possibilities of new content as well.

I don't want to abandon this blog entirely, I've had so much fun with it, and since people still like my old posts, I hope they'll like my posts in the future too.

I made this post to explain why I sort of faded away, but maybe I'll be back in the future. Thank you for reading this, and I hope you understand <3

Because the TG fandom is irreparable I want to give you dome good news / hype about the other fandoms for series I recced. Good vibes only :)

Ajin: Book club. We all bring our meta and fanfic to book club and sit in a cozy circle on comfy couches to talk about what we consider to be a truly special manga. There's pretty fanart on the walls and everyone's pretty accepting. Almost no drama in this club. We do like to mock the deuteragonist for being a dummy but we love him. We make jokes about the MC being edgy and the villain being a gamer. Many of us have ghost OCs.

Sweet Home: A barren wasteland. This is the kind of art room Junji Ito would approve of. There are stolen cookies here. We don't know if our ships count as canon but we do know they're pretty cool. Loving is pain. At least we can enjoy Easter eggs together. Why do the drama kids keep coming here to talk about live action.

Tower of God: outdoor club. Lots of open space and niches to join. we channel our hatred towards one antagonist so we fight less. Anyone insults the MC and they'll catch dozen of hands. Variety of ships to sail. Plenty of cool souvenirs to collect before we go home. Staying up to date on canon affairs is key.

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint: I feel like this takes place in someone's home library but I have no idea whose home. We mock all the main trio constantly. We have so much essay depth we can't climb out of the well. Incorrect quotes galore. Art feels like something you'd see in an art gallery.

Artist research continued

Vicken Parsons

‘ Parsons’s interior paintings of borders and edges tread a fine line between representing a place and painterly abstraction. Her compositions are articulated by spare charcoal line drawings overlaid with washes of thinned oil paint, often in a muted palette. They usually have little extraneous details and use a vocabulary of ambiguous corners, passageways, doorways, tilted floors, tipped planes, apertures, screens, tunnels and low ceilings. When I look at the abstract recreations of interior works by Vicken Parson, like the quote above, I am intrigued and want to work out what the interior would look like. I want to go through what looks like doorways and around the corner. Her works are recreations of interior locations and made in a warped abstract way. Walls are illogically incorrect sizes and walls connect at odd angles that logically would not line up. Corners are blurred the environments are hazy. Looking at this work has lead to me thinking about how I can present the structure of my environments and mess with perspective.

‘I make series because I do not want to make individual pieces for individuals, in order to have elements combinable within a system, in order to make something that is repeatable, objective, and because it is economical. The series can be prototypes for mass-production. [...] They are less and less recognisable as "works of art."The objects are intended to represent anything other than what they are. ‘ - Posenenske, Charlotte (May 1968). "Statement". The art featured above ‘prototype for revolving vane’ is an art piece created that I think fully summarises what it is that Charlotte wanted to convey with art. The piece is a prototype for box-like constructions that can be replicated and combined infinitely (as all patterns). Since her art is meant to be not works of art and more represent anything but what they are, the door like constructions are on revolving vertical axis and can be manipulated by the viewer, effectively manipulating the pattern of the object.

Another example of her works is the square tube series. She crafted various different square tube constructions visually similar to ventilation shafts. the works for created in a way where they can be replicated and combined to create an assortment of patterns or recreated and moved. The pieces can be displayed in or out of a museum and can be placed and put together very easily with the rest of her series or recreations. Because they are 3D, there is no defined way the objects should be stood, it all depends on how the gallery wants to display them or how the pattern can be created. ‘ These basic components can be combined to create any number of configurations, each unit having a standard opening with a protruding edge that allows them to be bolted together. The number of unit parts incorporated in each iteration of the work is not defined, meaning that they can be fashioned to fit a space, or continued indefinitely. Looking at her work, I have ideas for a 3D puzzle based game like 3 Dimensional tetris. You have to create a path from A to B using the 3D constructions and construct a path, manipulating the objects and rotating them and combining them together. 

Peter Randall-Page

When it comes to this artist, there is not much to be found on the tate modern website, but after some searching I have found his website which is full of better examples of 3D sculptures that rely on geometry. All of his works are contructions of geometric patterns, organic and ‘non’-organic like patterns. Many of his works contain spirals and circles.

Looking at his work and 2D work, there is very obviously a construction of a pattern. Like a ring, there is not start point or end point, the pattern will simply continue until it reconnects or expands and grows forever. 

Despite being man made, the objects he creates are oddly organic and look natural, after all nature is made up of patterns. His works also have an eerie look to them however, they may look organic, but definitely not terrestrial. His 2D drawings are dark and the contrast of light and dark make the drawings look evil and often resemble horror art of Junji Ito. The organic spiral patterns in his rock structures look eerie and alien in the earth landscapes. 

After looking at this artist long enough I realised I actually recognise some of his works. I've seen this one, I live down the road from it. This statue is located along the quayside Newcastle.
