A pretty 1927 pale lime green crêpe de chine dancing dress from Atelier Bachwitz, a Jewish-owned Vienna-based publishing house that published exquisite fashion and lifestyle magazines from 1898 to 1938.

The straight line silhouette is typical of the 1920s, the clever, zigzag piecing of the fabric more common after 1925 as the Art Deco aesthetic took hold. Loose, fluttering bias-cut ruffles became popular right around 1926 and got more and more fluttery as the decade progressed. Bright, cheerful colors in lightweight silks were fashionable the entire decade.

Looking at the image, I believe the skirt flounces are petal-shaped at the bottom, something like quarter-circles in cut, and freehanging from each other. A pain straight slip of matching silk worn underneath would protect modesty as the flounces flared out like flower petals while dancing.

Previously I posted some old paintings of my great grandfather and his contemporaries. It were works that were not that good, and would be thrown away. Now I present to you his better works that decorate the house of my family members. I took pictures, and I upload them here, because it is important to archive and remember history. Eerder plaatste ik enkele oude schilderijen van mijn overgrootvader en zijn tijdgenoten. Het waren werken die niet zo goed waren en weggegooid zouden worden. Nu presenteer ik u zijn betere werken die het huis van mijn familieleden versieren. Ik heb foto's gemaakt en die upload ik hier, omdat het belangrijk is om de geschiedenis te archiveren en te onthouden.

A barricade manned by militia after the nationalist uprising in Spain on 19th July 1936 at the start of the Spanish Civil War. The Spanish Civil War was a conflict fought between 1936 and 1939 in Spain. The war began after a military uprising against the democratically-elected government of the Second Spanish Republic.
