A Story in Parts
While I was walking along I found myself in pieces.
I found myself as an angel with rage of biblical proportions that I'd never known. And I said "you can feel angry now so long as you use it to protect us." And she calmed.
I found myself as a confident girl with no inhibitions. I said "you can exist so long as you help me feel self compassion." And she agreed.
I found myself as a child who couldn't speak. I said "you can make up for the rest you lost for others." And she sleeps soundly.
I found myself as an artist struggling to continue. I said "you can create as you please without judgement." And she was overjoyed.
I found myself as a teenager with no memories. I said "you can be whoever you are today and nobody will stop you here." And she is.
I found myself as an alien who never felt stability. I said "you have a home here now." And she stayed.
I found myself as a popular girl with a reputation to maintain. I said "you don't have to conform anymore." And she loves herself.
I found myself as a princess who never wanted to be one. I said "you can experience normalcy now." And she does as she pleases.
I found myself as a poet who lost everything. I said "you don't have to be afraid to share what's inside." And she isn't.
I found myself alone. I said "it doesn't have to be this way."

How do u feel about Internal Family Systems
It sounds interesting. I'm not sure that I fully understand it well enough to have much of an opinion. (Even if I do understand it better than the people who think it's "having a work self and home self" 🙄)
Given my experience with tulpamancy, I'm curious how often the "parts" are already things that exist before therapy, and how often the therapy creates them.
Yes, some people naturally have different voices in their head. That's what the model was based on. But I also think that if you go looking for a part that's not in there, your brain may create something to fill that role.
Like how Daemonists approach Daemons as something they see as having always been a part of them that they connect with and just allow them to take an animal form.
I suspect that IFS, in practice, may not always be exactly what it purports to be.
But I need to do more research on the subject.

I've been reading No Bad Parts, which is about internal family systems therapy, and immediately off the bat it is giving me better mental health advice than any other book, article, or healthcare worker ever has. highly recommend, especially if you currently or in the past dealt with self harm or overwhelming emotions

One day I was sitting at my 6th grade class bored out of my mind, then I had the idea to play music in my head to pass the time. I haven't been able to turn it off since.

As a part of the new tumblr beta feature Communities, we've been approved for one of our very own - And I would love your help building this Fully Inclusive Plural Community with me! 💜
The infrastructure is still being developed, so there's some bugs and built in restrictions - We can only invite about 20 more people in right now, only main blogs, no sideblogs, sorry. This also means I'll be posting there from my main @afaintcloudyhaze :)
If you're interested in joining, please let me know in a reply to this post from your main blog. The only requirement is that you feel a connection to plurality and you want to contribute to the conversation about it.

Love (cannot emphasis how much sarcasm there is in that word) that an official Canadian government response to high cellphone rates is to switch carriers.
Switch it to what? We basically have three companies since one was allowed to eat the forth (with the government saying it wasn't anti-competition and the company eating the other pinky promising they wouldn't jack rates up). Even the smaller companies have to rent infrastructure from the Big Three so there's only so much they can do if that rent costs an arm and a leg.
And that's not touching on how many "small companies" are actually just subsidiaries of the Big Three. You may save $5 but you're still with Telus/Rogers/Bell.
Or that the actual small companies tend to have shit coverage because they don't have the infrastructure available to them and are prevented from getting it. Or their traffic is throttled in favour of the Big Three's customers. Or both.
Or that they're extremely regional thus aren't an option for a huge chunk of Canada's population.
We have no true options and the government has shown time and again that they're fine with monopolies, in multiple industries, and don't care when said monopolies jack up prices to make shareholders and the c-suite more money at the expense of everyone else. At most there will be a verbal slap on the wrist and a giftcard for $25 that people have to register for, for a decade and a half of price gouging.
It's not talked a whole lot about outside the country from what I've seen and heard but Canada is a country of monopolies. A handful of companies own nearly everything, every province has a family or two that owns a hell of a lot (Nova Scotia is basically owned by one family at this point), and our government ignores it. Even the branch that is supposed to be against monopolies is fine with mergers and takeovers in most cases.
Because, you know, the company said it totally wouldn't use consumers' lack of options to increase prices.
#canada#so much of our infrastructure and critical construction such as housing#has been pawned off for decades to private companies#and i forgot to mention one (1) family owns the bridge that is a major international corridor between canada and the us#which is apparently fine even though they fought tooth and nail to stop a bridge they don't own from being built#like our housing crisis can be traced back to the government deciding to stop building public housing in the 90s#because they figured private developers would pick up the slack#affordable apartments don't bring in much money so we got decades of cheap-ass 'luxury condos' instead#and once airbnb became a thing we got entire buildings with units <300sqft#and of course when the party in charge rotates between conservatives and neolibs nothing changes and that can gets kicked down the road#and keeps getting kicked until something collapses and they see the chance to fully privatize an industry#something similar is happening to our healthcare system too#it has been left to languish for years/decades with funding freezes and cuts#and private companies are quick to jump in and get the government stamp of approval to do [thing] that the public system clearly can't do#when [thing] would absolutely be possible if it was actually funded and/or staffed#so many communities were cut off when greyhound closed up shop because there's no government inter-city transportation#we lost internet/banking/cell service/etc nation-wide because one of the big three decided to push an update to live without redundancies#and it bugged and took the entire company's network down#even the government agency that demands major companies have a backup on a different network was taken down because they ignored that#and they got a deal if they kept their backup with rogers while their main network was also rogers#so they couldn't even make an emergency statement or anything about it#half my province also lost all digital infrastructure because it's a private company and making a redundancy line would mean smaller bonuse#it's just so bad#joke all you want about how canada is nice and friendly#but you are wrong and it's hell if you actually live here#the only reason canada is seen as nice is because it's hard to not seem like the better option when the us is your neighbour#and because of decades of pr work to make canada seem friendly and nice and not at all problematic#in some countries you actually have to try to hide you're canadian because of how much we colonize and the damage we do to other countries#yes these tags have derailed from the post but ugh#i take major issue with people who insist canada is nice and has never done anything wrong

I call my parts/facets, 'personas'. My therapist said that's actually normal. She is even okay with me saying 'we' sometimes, too. She is okay with me naming them, too. If it is normal, why don't people talk about it more? Why don't people explore different parts of themselves more? It's perfectly fine to be Median, folks. Encourage it. Embrace it. I know it's hard sometimes to let certain parts have a voice, but we all should. They're all us. She also mentioned Internal Family Systems.

Hiya! I feel like my sysmates are more like personalities? I’m not sure why but I can’t contact them and I can’t tell when I switch.. Could there maybe be a better term for this?? I’m super confused on this but feel like I just forced them to become beings and it started to fade when I stopped paying attention but idk
It could be some sort of monoconscious median system. Or you could have just lost communication.
What do you mean about not being able to tell when you switch? Do you mean that you don't feel like you're switching at all, or that you aren't always aware who you are, or that you only realize later that you've switched and can't remember when it happened? Or something else entirely? It might help to be able to put it into words, clearly spelling out what you're experiencing.
But I also want to say that plurality is a spectrum. The Internal Family Systems model would say that everyone is a system of parts, and those parts can be interacted with as individuals. And those parts are always equally real.
The founder of the IFS model believes that the difference between these parts in someone with DID vs someone without is just that the parts in DID are more separated.
youtube
I don't... completely agree with that view and feel there's more going on than that.
But I do think that instead of asking "am I a system," a healthier approach might be asking "how separated is my system? What is its boundaries? Where along the spectrum do I fall?"
And remember that doubt is common. Every system experiences doubt at some point. People say that all plurality is different, but doubt appears to be the universal constant.
And that's okay. It's okay to doubt. To be unsure. To question. I can promise that you're not alone. 💖

My remaining long metas - Retraumatization vs. Self-Soothing (Part 2), another called Holding the Space, and the one where I interpret stuff more loosely than usual to explore Belos's impact on Luz and Hunter's experiences with mental illness - they're taking a while to do up.
But here's a treat in the meantime: one of the two main modalities I use with my clients (called Internal Family Systems, or IFS), used as a framework to understand Hunter's inner world. Modalities help therapists to make sense of clients' issues.
The first pic shows the parts of Hunter that are wounded or pushed to extremes: organized into three categories called Managers, Firefighters and Exiles. Exiles are suppressed and pushed aside because they are viewed as threats to the whole system. Any emotion in the Manager category prepares for difficulties in life (often over-preparing), Firefighter emotions are quick and reactive, showing up to try and soothe Exiles to try and rebalance the whole system, but are at risk of causing harm.
The second pic shows his Self, which can be said to be any person's true self and is restorative and positive. In therapy, using this framework is to 1. get Manager and Firefighter parts to stop suppressing the Exiles, 2. encourage Exile parts of a person to feel safe and express themselves, and 3. draw out the person's naturally restorative Self to lead the wounded/extreme parts of them towards feeling peace.
A therapist doesn't necessarily have to help every wounded part unless the client wants them to. Sometimes it's a bit tricky to tell the various parts apart, e.g. the line between Hunter's caretaker side (a Manager) and his natural compassion (Self) is a fine one. What to look out for is if he is taking care of others to avoid feeling worthless (an Exile). Usually once the Self is engaged, positive transformation can happen fairly quickly.
Anyway, don't mind my

-ing. Something for your minds to chew on while I work on the other metas.

Update, 31/12/2023:
Whoopsie, I'll only finish and upload "Holding the Space" for perhaps the Watching and Dreaming anniversary in 2024. I was working on it very slowly but it simply wasn't flowing.

I find it hard when I see old pics/videos of me not because I think I was "cringe" but because I can see how vulnerable/trusting I was and see clearly now how the people around me were taking advantage of me and it infuriates my inner protector
