keeping secrets
gojo satoru x fem!reader
summary: you and satoru avoid each other
warnings: actual fighting, sad everyone, hurt/little comfort (sorry)

Tumblr media
*
year four.
"did megumi give you a permission slip?" you ask satoru, leaning against the side of the couch, peeking at his phone. "it's for a field trip, but i haven't seen it. he says he set it on the counter."
satoru glances at you. then back, and shakes his head.
"he didn't give you anything to sign?"
"not recently."
you sigh. "i don't think he lost it."
satoru's lip quirks. "you think i'm hiding it?"
"i don't know. did you accidentally eat it?"
his eyes roll. "i have better taste than that."
"well, can you help me look for it?"
satoru sighs, head hanging back for a moment, then he throws his phone down, groaning as he stands up. after he stretches, he half-heartedly moves a pillow, pretending to look under it.
you snort.
but satoru doesn't look back at you, and moves to the table, to look at the stack of papers there.
and, admittedly, things have been a bit off.
you tried to ignore it at first--ignore the way satoru avoided your eyes, or kept himself five feet away from you at all times. you tried to pretend that it wasn't happening. that he wasn't giving you short responses, or only joking with you in dire moments (like when something you say goes over both of the kid's heads and they stare at you weirdly).
honestly, you hadn't even noticed anything was wrong until you'd realized that it'd been a week since he fell asleep with you. since he even bothered to come out of his room after putting the kids to bed. a week since he tried to squeeze you to death, or grossly kissed your cheek.
and... it shouldn't be weird.
no rule says that he has to spend a specific amount of time with you, or cuddle in your bed, or smile at you, or... do anything that your best friend probably shouldnt do.
but it's weird.
it's strange because your relationship with satoru has stayed relatively consistent, an upward slope for the past six years. you've grown closer, but never farther.
and, in the depths of your mind, usually when you're lying awake at night, you recognize that there's one single moment when it switched. that everything changed a specific morning, and you haven't been able to rewind it. to take it all back.
and you could just blame the alcohol for your confession, you probably should.
but then you'd also have to blame your sixteen-year-old self, the girl who'd been attracted to satoru in the first place. the eighteen-year-old who agreed to tie her life to his and take in the kids, or you now, still cursing yourself for falling in love with him.
it's not like satoru made you.
if intoxication is to blame, so is your heart, your soul, for starting all of this in the first place.
you'd decided to not blame anything at all, in the end. everything's fine.
"find anything?" you ask him, a bit cold in the room, feeling that same tension that's been there. those unspoken words, infinite amounts of distance.
you try to ignore it, really.
"just the receipt for tsumiki's violin."
"tsumiki's what?" you ask, blinking at him.
"i didn't tell you about that?"
"satoru, you can't just buy them things on a whim--"
he holds a hand up, stopping you. "she said it was for school," he says, giving you a quick grin. "plus, she's pretty good."
"there's no way she's good."
"you'll see," he says, "when we go to her recital."
"what?"
satoru shrugs, then he turns around, organizing the piles of papers into neat stacks. it almost makes you want to check him for a spider bite, a fever, remnants of poison. no way your satoru is doing that.
not that he's yours. he hasn't been yours in years, hasn't been your anything ever.
"oh, here," he says, eventually, handing you a paper which he already signed--of course--and shaking his head. "museums," he grumbles.
but he doesn't give you the chance to respond, turning to walk down the hall--towards his room--before you can even chide him for forgetting about it.
so, yeah. things are fine.
*
"where's gojo?" megumi asks, as the two of you walk through the door.
the house is empty without satoru there. colder, dimmer. and, of course, there's no one to irritate the boy right when he walks in.
you try not to wince at the question, or spiral into your own question of 'where's gojo?'
"uh," you lock the door, then unlock it. then lock it again. "he's on another job."
"again?"
you give megumi a bland smile, taking his backpack from him. "guess they think he needs more practice," you say, trying to tease.
it falls flat.
"did he get in trouble?"
"i don't know," you shrug. "probably."
honestly, it's not like you would know anyway. satoru doesn't tell you anything these days.
it's probably what bothers you the most, because if he's not saying anything, then neither can you. you can't ask him what he thinks about tsumiki's new friend, or if megumi should be eating more, or if you're just making everything up, probably going insane--
"when's he going to be back?"
"he said probably tomorrow. maybe the day after if it takes longer. i can't remember where they sent him..."
megumi looks mischievous. his eyes are bright. "so we can make those miso brownies? since he's gone?"
you laugh, ruffling his hair. "sure, when tsumiki gets home."
he nods, satisfied, and turns around. then he looks back at you, eyes trailing over your expression.
megumi looks at you quizzically, like he knows something you don't. "do you miss him?"
you roll your eyes. "do you miss him, megumi?"
he doesn't even think about it. "true," he says, then walks into the kitchen, grabbing something from the fridge.
maybe you miss him, you think, but only a little bit. it's not like he's been gone long.
just, you know, forever.
*
"hey," you lean against the desk in the office. satoru must be filling out a report, which should make you blink twice, but really it's him being out in the open that surprises you.
most days he goes to hide in his room. he locks his door and makes sure that you wouldn't dare to walk through. that you have no means to interrupt his solitude.
"oh, hey," satoru answers, not bothering to look up at you. his voice is low, familiar, and creates goosebumps on your skin.
seriously, why is it so cold in this house?
"i'm surprised those haven't gone missing yet," you gesture toward the papers, trying to be casual.
he snorts. "yaga said that if i lost them again, i was fired."
"he said that two years ago."
satoru nods, still scribbling. you want more than anything to just see his eyes for a moment, for him to look at you and grin like you're used to.
but you know he won't, so you tap your fingers against the desk. "do you have a second?"
"sure. what's up? megumi do something?"
"no, the kids are fine, i, um--" you pause. it feels ridiculous to have to ask him this, to not know the answer. it feels ridiculous to be nervous around satoru. you haven't felt anxious, or worried about asking him anything since you were sixteen and realized that it didn't matter. "shoko texted me about that work 'meeting' that's happening on friday. do you want to go to that? i just need to know so i can tell her..."
"meeting?"
your smile is teasing, not that he's looking. "i think she meant party."
"on friday?"
"yeah. she said that the booze is free, and i think nanami's going, so i thought..." you hint, not even sure what you mean.
i thought we could talk. i thought we could go together and maybe everything would go back to normal. i thought that we were friends, if anything, and that you cared about me--
satoru hums. "what about the kids?"
"tsumiki has a birthday party that night, and megumi likes the sitter from last time," you wince at your accidental mention of that night. "or he can come, i guess, but he'd probably hate it."
satoru snorts, nodding in agreement. you watch his hands freeze, then resume.
he's thinking the same things you are, you know. he's thinking about how stupid you are, how ridiculous it is to imagine him being in love with you, caring about who you are or how you feel.
you just know it.
"so..." you whisper, after a second. "do you want to go?"
you feel like you're standing on uneven ground. how can this be the only real conversation you've had with satoru this week?
how can you miss him this much when he's literally right there?
"i don't--" satoru makes a face, finally looking toward you. he sets down the pen. "i don't think so. but you can go and i can stay here with megumi," he suggests easily like he's not rejecting you. "we can have a guy's night."
"megumi hates guy's nights."
satoru has a cheeky grin on, but it's half-hearted. barely there.
like a glimpse of him in a peephole, a moment where he's not hiding completely from you.
he doesn't say anything, though. he doesn't even bother to come up with a better excuse.
it's clear as day that he just doesn't want to hang out with you, even in a crowd of people.
"that's okay," you hum, eventually, trying to keep your voice steady. "i don't really--"
"no, you should go. you haven't seen nanami in a while. you can have a night out," he says genuinely, but it sounds more like i need a break from you.
"yeah," you try to laugh. "i--um, okay. if you're sure."
he nods, looking away again. he hasn't touched you in weeks. your skin is almost molding, going completely stale. "i'm sure. we'll order dinner, so you don't have to worry about the brat complaining."
"okay."
"okay," satoru answers, but it doesn't mean anything.
and it's not okay.
*
the two of them walk through the door, and megumi looks... pleasant. he's got the makings of a smile on his face, a little jump in his step.
it's one of the only times you've seen him look like the ten-year-old he is, instead of someone who's concerned about economic collapse.
it makes you smile a bit, even if just the sight of satoru sends pangs down your chest.
"hey," you say, hand on his head as he lingers by you, eyes meeting yours in greeting. you look to satoru, who's pretending to wipe away a smudge on his glasses. "where were you guys?"
"we were--"
"gojo took me to that old hospital by my school," megumi says, "there were cursed spirits hanging outside. he let me and my divine dogs deal with them," he says this almost excitedly--as excited as megumi gets--and you can see it in his eyes. that little twinkle of pride.
your eyes widen, but you smile, trying to be genuine. it's difficult because you've been lying for weeks. "really?" you ask, trying not to look over at satoru accusingly. "how'd it go?"
"good," megumi, moves to the sink, washing his hands. "they're getting better at scenting them out. it didn't take long."
"that's great."
"megumi didn't need any of my help," satoru adds, giving you a short glance. "he's got good intuition."
megumi looks at satoru with a glare in his eyes, but you can tell that he appreciates the compliment.
you can tell that he's completely fine with this, that the two of them are going to act like it's normal, but you can't.
you try to ignore it when megumi looks between you and satoru, a slight furrow in his brows. he knows something wrong, you know. but you're not going to admit that.
you swallow. "do you have any homework you need to finish, megs?"
"uh..." he pauses. "i think so. reading?"
you smile, hand on his back as you lead him out of the room. "okay, how about you go work on that? i need to talk to satoru real quick."
he nods immediately, looking eager to leave--both the room and the tension.
as soon as he's gone, you turn to satoru, narrowed eyes as you observe him. he's already smiling because he knows that he's in trouble. because he knows that you're angry.
because, even if he hasn't actually spoken to you in weeks, satoru has always read you so well. he's always known what you're going to say before you say it.
but you can't care about it. it doesn't mean anything to him.
“you can’t do that,” you say, almost whispering. “not without asking me.”
“i knew you’d say no.”
you laugh, looking away from him. “exactly.”
“he’s fine,” satoru reassures. he shrugs, because why should he care about your concern? “he did good, and there’s not a scratch on him. i’m sorry for not telling you but—“
“no buts, satoru. you can’t take megumi out on missions like he’s a student. he’s not. and you definitely can’t do it without even telling me," there's a burning in your chest. your head is clouded over with anger.
just looking at him--at his ridiculous smile and stupid perfect face--makes you clench your fists.
how can he stand there and act like you're a team?
“it’s not a big deal. i was there the whole time—and he didn’t need me.”
“i don’t care!”
satoru rolls his eyes, his arms crossed. “i think you’re overreacting.”
“i’m not," you say, trying to get him to look at you--actually look--but he won't. it makes your chest hurt even more. "you’re not telling me things—fine, whatever, keep whatever secrets you want, gojo. don't bother talking to me. but you can’t keep secrets from me about the kids.”
“secrets? i’m not—“
you shake your head, hands in the air, trying to clear all of it away. you want the past month to go away, the past six years. “megumi’s just a kid. he’s ten. he can’t be going on missions, not until he’s ready.”
“i think i’ve already proved how ready he is.”
“well, maybe i'm not ready. he’s a kid.”
“yeah,” satoru says, obviously. he scoffs. “yeah, he’s a kid. but he’s also a jujutsu sorcerer. you can’t separate the two.”
his voice is all-knowing and his stance is firm. you know that you won't convince him otherwise--know that he's right, to some degree, but this isn't about megumi.
this isn't about cursed spirits or jujutsu.
“yes, you can," you say, clenching your jaw. "he doesn’t need to be seeing that shit right now. not until he decides he wants to. practice his technique with him all you want, but you can’t just take him to exorcise a curse with you.”
“like i said, he’s fine.”
“it’s not about that! it’s about you doing something reckless—again—and acting like there aren’t any consequences to your decisions. he’s my son,” you hiss, “he shouldn’t be going anywhere i don’t know about. you shouldn’t be making decisions about him behind my back.”
you shouldn't be pushing me away, you shouldn't be ruining this--
“so you want to lock him up here?" satoru asks, laughing at you. his teeth are sharp and he is still. "you want to take away his ability to defend himself?”
you scoff. “are you kidding? you think me saying i don’t want you to get him killed is equal to me—“
“he was fine. if anything—anything—had been there that megumi couldn’t handle, i would’ve taken care of it. i wasn't going to let anyone touch him. that’s why i was there! and he didn’t even need me," he's boasting, swearing to you--you can feel it as he rolls his eyes at you.
“you know what he needs, satoru? he needs you to treat him like he’s a little boy and not some experiment for you to play with.”
“i would never—“
you cut him off, “bringing him out into the open, where anyone could see him, could hurt him, and making him deal with your cursed spirit is not okay.”
“i didn’t make him deal with anything," satoru swears, chin up.
you snort. the two of you are standing in front of each other, arms crossed, head guarded. your muscles are tense like something is about to attack you. “oh, so he asked you to go?”
“well, no, but—“
“then you made him! you put him up against a monster and treated him like a student, like a 16-year-old, and not your son.”
the words feel nice to say. some version of the truth that's much better than whatever this version is. if satoru won't talk to you, you'll talk for him.
you'll make every assumption, every bad perception (because he's supposed to keep you from worrying, he's supposed to be there to calm you down, to save you from that spiraling). but if he's not going to try, neither will you.
satoru’s eyes grow hard. “what?”
“why can’t you just let him be a kid? why do you have to push him into these things—“
“we talked with megumi about who he is,” satoru grinds, “he knows about the privilege of his strength, and the fact that he has to work to use it—“
“a ten-year-old shouldn’t have to work for anything!”
he laughs at you. you can't see his eyes, but you watch his face as he tries to hide his expression, trying to keep his voice low. the kids are still in the house, so you shouldn't be yelling. but you can't bring it in yourself to really care.
“what do you think the point of him living here was? why do you think we took him in?”
you gape at him. “are you kidding?” you ask. “are you serious? we took him, and tsumiki, in because you’re responsible for killing their father! because they didn’t have anyone else, and that’s your fault.”
“you think i don’t know that?”
“well, i thought you did," you say, stepping away from him. some part of you wants to push him out, make him leave. the other part desperately wants him to stay--to say he's sorry. "but you just said that the only reason megumi is here is so you can teach him! when i agreed to this i thought you were facing the consequences of your actions, doing the right thing for those kids because you could. i thought you wanted to take care of them! to keep them away from our awful, messed up world.”
satoru is staring at you with his jaw clenched.
you continue, without consideration for the consequences of your words. “i didn’t think that you only wanted to keep megumi here so you could train him, like a dog.”
“that’s not what i said.”
you shake your head, a bitter smile on your face. “well it’s what you meant, and clearly you have no regard for his feelings or the way that curses might affect him—“
“don’t act like i did it just to mess with him," he interrupts, harshly. "it’s not a joke. i want him to be strong, i want him to be able to take care of himself—“
“and i want him to have a dad who isn’t so selfish!”
“what?”
“did you even think about it? what about the nightmares he’s going to have?" you wonder, rhetorically. "what about the fact that he’s different—that he’s already struggling to relate to other kids in school? what about him, satoru? why is it only about you?”
what about me? you don't say.
“i didn’t bring him for me—“
“you want a replacement. you want someone else to deal with everything, while you sit back and watch. i know what you’re trying to do—“
“really?" he points at you, the other hand clenched in the air. he's laughing again. "you can read my mind? you’ve already been let in on my plans—“
“don’t you wish that you’d had the opportunity to be just a kid?” you demand. “don’t you want that for megumi?”
he shrugs. “sure. but it’s never going to happen.”
“well, clearly, because you won’t let it.”
“he gets to be a kid every day. god forbid i take him to see one curse, to understand how to use his powers, to protect himself, and you treat me like i wanted to kill him.”
you laugh. your mind is a minefield, and everything he says ruins another part of it.
all you can think about is him, him as a teenager, him with you, telling satoru you love him and him having nothing left to say--
but you scoff again, shoving yourself further away from him. “do you know how many times i’ve wanted to go back to when i was ten and just got to live my life? do you know how often i think about how everything could’ve been different?”
“this isn’t about us."
“yes, it is. it is, satoru, because i didn’t get that chance and neither did you. and you just took away megumi’s chance.”
“i didn’t take anything away," he says, softly, like he's trying to convince himself.
clearly, you've struck a nerve.
“he’s never going to be able to look at the world normally, but he doesn’t need the burden of saving people before he’s even in middle school.”
“why is being strong so bad?” satoru asks you, demanding something more. why am i so bad? “why do you treat it like it’s a curse? like it’s going to hurt him?”
“look at you!” you respond. “look at suguru, and me, and shoko! look at any jujutsu sorcerer and ask them if being strong is worth it—is worth screwing your life over.”
satoru looks taken aback. he steps away from you.
“god, it’s like you think that we’re a different species," you tell him, never having felt like it's more true. "you’re human, satoru. you might be the strongest, but you’re still human, and you still have nightmares like all of the rest of us.”
he shakes his head at you.
“why do you want that for megumi? why push him into this right now?”
“i want him to be able to take care of himself. so that he doesn’t die like our colleagues, so that he doesn’t make the wrong choice like—“
he stops, his voice breaking before he can continue.
and maybe you know what this is really about, but if satoru doesn’t want to tell you how he feels, if he wants to pretend like it doesn’t matter—
fine. you will too.
“it wouldn’t make a difference. he’s already—his life is already messed up.”
satoru looks at you, his eyes ablaze. “don’t you think that if i was him, if i could’ve been stronger, if i could’ve saved all of those people—don’t you think i would do it in an instant? don’t you think i know that because i wasn’t strong enough, people died?”
this is the thing you've feared since you were eighteen, a brand new person responsible for two little lives. you've feared satoru's moral commitment since before you met him. since you saw him destroy a curse in an instant and realized he was different than everyone else.
“megumi isn’t you! he doesn’t need to be taught to take on the responsibility of everyone’s lives—“
“you can’t say that i’m selfish, that i don’t care, and then say that i care too much,” he says, shaking his head, unable to look at you.
he hasn't been able to look you in the eye in weeks.
“you’re both!" you say, almost yelling. "you’re everything. and you don’t think! you haven’t thought for a moment about what megumi might be feeling, who he might want to be—“
“and you have? what about what you want him to be?”
“i want him to be happy! i want him to grow up better than i ever did. i don’t want him chasing a bunch of cursed spirits around on the weekend like it’s a normal thing—“
“it is normal. for us, it’s normal. for him, it’s normal.”
you sigh, a weight on your chest, a burning in your throat. “well, maybe it shouldn’t be.”
you're not going to start crying now. not with satoru watching, not when he gets to know just how much you care.
satoru scoffs. “so you’d just have everyone defend themselves--"
"i don't know how you're arrogant enough to believe that you can save everyone--"
"--you’d just forget that we’re strong for a reason, that we--“
“but you’re never going to be strong enough, satoru. never.”
satoru stares at you. he doesn’t say a thing, doesn’t hesitate, and doesn’t bother to argue.
and after a moment he turns around. you reach your hand out to grab him--hold onto him and keep him here, because this isn't finished, and you're not done with him. you haven't even started.
but you run into a wall. you look down and your hand is dangling idly in front of his arm, stuck in the air.
you can't see satoru's eyes, but you can feel his heart--your heart--as it skips a beat in realization.
but then satoru shakes you off, pushes you infinitely farther away from infinity, and keeps going.
he walks out the door, slamming it shut.
you stand there for a moment, watching. you wait for the door to open again, for satoru to come back, for him to laugh--tell you that everything's fine, that it'll all be fine. that it's okay if you're angry, that he doesn't care.
but after a minute, he doesn't return.
and after another, you have to lean against the counter. your hand burns--but maybe that's just your imagination. you're pretty sure that infinity has no drawbacks, that there's no consequence for touching, for not touching satoru.
pretty sure.
but you still look over your skin, trying to see if he's left some mark. it would be nice to have some evidence of what he's done to you. you clench your fist, but the feeling doesn't go away.
and maybe it's not your hand. maybe it's your chest. maybe it's these weeks of feeling separated, feeling miles apart from him, feeling like it's all your fault that any of this has happened.
you... you can't even remember what you were arguing about.
you feel like a kid again, hiding yourself in your room just so your parents don't have to deal with you. you feel like that little girl who hid in the cupboards, trying to escape the monsters that no one else could see. you feel like that smaller, reckless version of yourself that left home at the first chance, who knew she wasn't allowed back.
are you allowed here? you wonder. is it going to happen again? are these monsters--real and fake--too much for your family to handle again?
you exhale, trying to catch your breath again. none of this feels right, normal, easy.
should you--should you call him? should you wait for him to come back?
is he going to come back?
the slam of the door is still echoing throughout the house when they creep down the hallway, making sure their footsteps are soft, but also loud enough for you to hear.
maybe you've only been standing there, waiting for satoru to turn around, for thirty seconds.
but it feels like an hour.
"mom?" a tiny voice asks, and both of them are turning around the corner, taking hesitant steps towards you.
you have to swallow. you need some water, an icepack maybe, to get rid of the burning feeling in your throat. the telltale signs that you're going to cry--that you've suffered blows to the core, and you can't backtrack now.
but you don't want to cry in front of them. you refuse to. if you didn't want to cry in front of satoru, you won't cry in front of the kids.
so you turn around, swallow again, and fill a glass of water.
you chug it down, wanting it to wash away that feeling, that ache.
you can't say anything just yet because then you'll actually fall apart.
megumi and tsumiki watch you, both of them silent as they wait for your direction. for some solution you should have.
you take a deep breath, then turn, almost faltering when you see the worried look on both of their faces, the concern in their eyes. neither of them should have to worry about this.
god, how could you forget that they were there? that they could hear everything?
how could you make another mistake?
"hey, guys," you say, clearing your throat. you want to be nonchalant, and casual, but you've never been either a day in your life.
"where did gojo go?"
"i, um," you take another sip of water, because that feeling crawls up your throat, makes itself known again. "i think he went on a walk."
"is he okay?" tsumiki asks.
"are you okay?" megumi follows.
"yeah, he's fine. he's good. i--he just needed some space, you know? um... a break."
"from us?"
your eyes widen. "no, no, no. of course not, never you guys. he's... just been busy this week. working a lot. and, i, well, he's good. we're good."
megumi leans on the counter next to you, looking at you very closely. "are you okay?" he repeats.
"i'm good, megs. it's..." you smile. "it's fine. um, did satoru get you anything to eat while you were out? i'm not sure what we've got, but i can make something if you--"
"when is he going to be back?"
you stop, sighing. you shouldn't have taught either of them how to read emotions, or how to eavesdrop. you shouldn't be speaking to anyone, or trusted with anything.
"i'm not sure, buddy. he'll be back when he's ready."
"is he going to stay out all night?" tsumiki asks, worried.
"no, i'm sure--" you stop again. "gojo will be back in time for bed, okay?"
they're both staring at you, waiting for you to say something profound, something to make it actually okay.
but you have nothing. is satoru going to come back? is he going to stay somewhere else? you know he'll exhaust himself just to avoid coming home--
this is why you shouldn't have moved in--
this is why you never should've agreed to this, allowed himself to burrow a hole in your heart, in your soul--
"hey," megumi takes a step towards you. and then, before you can blink the tears out of your eyes, reassure him that it's fine, his arms are around your waist.
he nuzzles his face into your side, squeezing tighter than you thought a little boy could.
theres only a second of this before tsumiki's on your other side, and squeezing just as hard.
your hands fall on both of their backs, and you take a breath that feels more like never breathing again. your lungs won't fill, and your chest is incomplete
but they stand there with you, and eventually, your heart begins to match theirs, and their little hands keep you together.
you can't cry, but you really want to.
*
satoru's entire body feels different.
he knows what it's lacking, the changes he's made in a short period of time--giving himself no time to acclimate, no pause where he slowly adapts to the differences.
he misses you.
it's been like this before--when suguru left and satoru couldn't bear to look at himself in the mirror, nonetheless you in the eyes--but it's never felt so severe.
because you're right there. you've been there every day, waking him up, making the kids breakfast, laughing when megumi bullies him, smiling at tsumiki's attempts at mediating.
you're there in the morning, in the afternoon, and every night. you're right there for him--and he can't say a word.
he doesn't want this, this thing to be real.
denial is his favorite emotion, and recently, he can't even muster the strength to go through with it.
and now, he feels even more hopeless, lacking, never ever enough.
but he walks through the door because he has nowhere else to go. he has no other home--besides the three of you.
it's dark outside when he comes back, and the door is unlocked, so he knows that you've been waiting. that you had to deal with the aftermath of shouted voices and scared children who he felt lurking behind a wall before he got the chance to think about any of it.
he needs to talk to you. satoru knows that, he really does. but he's not sure what to say.
he could apologize for tonight--could tell you that he won't make any more decisions, that he won't wreck this thing you've built--but it's not enough.
he should probably apologize for the last seven years. for letting himself grow attached to you, and then continue to hold you at arms length. he should probably apologize for being himself, for being less than he could be.
but those words feel too rotten to say aloud.
so, when he walks up to your door, waiting to feel your obvious presence--to see it, like he always does, the wall of cursed energy that you are--he feels like running away again.
you don't even need to know that he's home. satoru could go to bed, and he could probably pretend that nothing happened in the morning and you would follow along.
but he doesn't want to do that. not to you.
and he needs to see you, needs to say something before he figures it all out--should he leave, or stay? should he continue to push you away to protect you? should he tell you all of it?
it doesn't matter, he knows, because he probably won't be able to do any of it.
and for the first time in years, satoru makes sure to knock before he opens your door. just a small repetition of his knuckles, but he might as well be breaking down a tradition.
there's no answer, but he's not waiting, so he creaks the door open, looking for you immediately.
and he sees you, lying in bed.
and he sees your shoulders shaking slightly, with you curled up in the fetal position, and he can hear the sniffle before the door is all the way open.
there's no choice, he knows. he's not going to let you cry yourself to sleep without saying anything. he's not going to leave you alone.
you don't turn around, but satoru knows that you must know he's there. he walks across the floor, sitting at the edge of your bed, waiting for you to turn to him.
and yell, maybe. tell him to leave again. tell him that you don't want to look at him anymore.
but you don't move. your shaking is slightly stifled, and satoru can tell that you're trying to keep your breathing low, to keep him from noticing you cry.
it's foolish, really, because satoru hasn't missed a single detail about you since he was seventeen.
he doesn't say anything, but it's a natural reflex to tap your legs, to stand and slip off his shoes, gently pushing you off of the edge of the bed, towards the middle.
and then he's laying there, curling his limbs around yours, arms wrapping around your waist, pulling you into him.
immediately, there's a release somewhere inside of him. that yearning--that ridiculous need is finally satiated.
satoru swallows. he needs to say something, he knows, but he's not sure what. should he apologize right now? should he tell you that he hates it when you cry--that he never feels more desperate to be more than in moments like this?
should he whisper that he loves you, just to get it off his chest?
but you cough, body shuttering as you relax into him, never pushing him away. and your voice is so small when you say, "you can't leave."
satoru feels the pieces of him crack into even more.
he tries to hold you tighter, but you move in his hold, turning so that you're facing him, and you nuzzle your face into his neck--trying to hide, but making sure that he's there.
your hands cling onto him, leaving marks.
he can feel your tears against his skin, your entire body on overdrive.
"you can't leave," you repeat, voice breaking. satoru feels it against the very outline of his soul.
"okay," he says, quickly. "i won't."
"i can't lose you too."
he pales, body going still. his heart might stop for a moment. "you won't. i'm not going anywhere." he sighs. "i'm sorry."
"i can't--" you're still crying, and you begin to shake again. "i can't do this without you. i won't."
"you don't have to."
"you can't leave, satoru," you say, leaning up to meet his eyes--yours glistening with years full of hurt, a lifetime of secrets and unsaid words. "please don't leave."
"i won't," he repeats, feeling a bit desperate. what can he say to prove to you that he's not like everyone else? that he would trap you within his atoms, if he could? that he would stay in this bed, holding you, even if it meant nothing, forever?
there's nothing, he knows. nothing but the truth. but that doesn't come out--it can't, now. it's not the right time.
so instead, satoru wipes the tears from your face, even though they're replaced immediately, your breath coming in short, short bursts. he wraps his arm around your back, pulling you back to him again.
"i'm sorry," you whisper against his skin, so quietly that he can barely hear it.
"i'm not going anywhere," he answers.
and, just for tonight, it's enough.
he'll fix the rest of it tomorrow.

✧RECKLESS || percy jackson x fem!reader
summary: as the group go to their next destination they arrive at the arch, annabeth and y/n’s mom’s sanctuary for some time. just when they think they’re safe, things don’t go to plan.
word count: FUCKIN 5878 NO BC IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR THREE HOURSSSSS AHH
warnings: y/n and percy being in a enemies or lovers trope, annabeth and grover being third and fourth wheelers, arguing, near death experiences, slight blood warnings, poisoned percy, a bit of crying? LIKE A TINY BIT, y/n is very argumentative.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as the group made their way to the st. louis arch, they weren’t doing very good. at all.
on their way, the original plan was to get straight to las vegas, but thanks to the monsters and not wanting to take a break, their train got ruined by the mother of monsters.
as they walked into the front entrance of the arch that annabeth and y/n recommended. they had stated that monsters can’t get in and it will give them more time to find some way to get to las vegas a lot quicker than on foot.
‘six-hundred and thirty feet wide’ annabeth started—‘six-hundred and thirty feet tall, both two within an inch’
as they four of them walked fast enough to cause an old lady whiplash, percy and grover listened to the two of them explain their mothers sanctuary.
‘it’s got no internal support. each side is balanced perfectly against one another’ y/n states once more as annabeth nodded along with what she said.
‘the arch is held up by symmetry, it’s held up by math!’ annabeth expressed.
‘oh and it’s earthquake proof’ y/n added to annabeth’s comment, giving annabeth a small glance before they walked down the steps of the entrance into the small museum full of kids on a field trip.
‘it’s also high enough so poseidon can’t ruin it…but i don’t think mom would appreciate his child being in here, so.’ y/n looked over to percy who gave her a tight thin lipped smile before mumbling.
‘nice…’ annabeth and percy looked at the two before giving each other a look to soon squeeze themselves through the group kids.
‘excuse me’ annabeth mumbled to the boys and girls who turned and moved out of the way for the four.
‘this is how you show athena your love, a monument to the power of perfection’ annabeth told.
‘it’s a monument to some other stuff too’ grover added as they looked around and saw other things regarding more olden times, guns, head skeletons of buffalo and other things.
‘your talking about what some humans want this place to be about. we’re talking about what it actually is’ annabeth placed her hand over her own chest while looking at percy and grover who frowned but agreed nonetheless.
y/n rolled her eyes when she saw the amount of ‘skeletons’ and other things that litterd the walls and glass casing all around them. the people seeming to be pleased enough at what they saw to take a picture.
‘it’s sad to know they don’t know what it really means. very pathetic really.’ y/n mumbled to herself as she turned to annabeth. percy looked over at her and blinked before widening his eyes and choosing not to say anything about what she said.
‘whatever…we’re safe here, right?’ grover made sure to comprehend as they walked.
‘no monsters can enter…not even echidna’ y/n reassured grover who nodded nervously.
‘we’re safe’ annabeth added on.
‘great…well since our train exploded! i’m going to see if there’s another one we can get tickets on. we can’t stay here forever.’ grover looked over at the huge plastered picture of buffalo being attacked and hunted by hunters.
looking overly slowly at the three he said once more—‘just because we’re prey doesn’t mean we need to be helpless.’ turning around to leave, annabeth nervously cleared her throat and walked up to him.
‘wait! i’m going to go with you. you two wait here, don’t leave and don’t move’ annabeth ordered y/n and percy who frowned their eyebrows.
‘were would we go?’ y/n asked her with a raised eyebrow. annabeth rolled her eyes and caught up to grover who walked rather fast.
as the two of y/n and percy watched annabeth and grover walk away, percy decided now would probably be a good time to start a bit of conversation to stop the awkward silence.
‘he doesn't like it when people mess with animals,’ he added.
y/n didn’t both turn to his side but acknowledged his voice—‘yeah. i know.’
percy turned to y/n who kept her eyes focused on annabeth and grover even though they were long past the barrier of her eyesight.
‘…why are you so quiet?’ percy mumbled, his eyes looking over y/n’s frame that was unmoving from her standing position.
‘why does it matter?’ y/n turned to his presence now. seeing he was a bit away from here
‘it doesn't it’s just…you know…kind of awkward?’ percy nervously mumbled.
sighing percy didn’t want to really give up on the conversation knowing it would probably be best. the last thing he needed and had the time for was for y/n to snap at him, but it was worth the shot.
‘so, this is your moms place?’
y/n kept quiet and turned her eyes and head another direction from percy who kept speaking. clearing his throat he spoke—
‘be right down just going to the potty’ he said in a girly squeaky voice. this gained y/n’s attention.
as childish and stupid as it was, it was definitely an uplift from the previous mood. she lightly grinned but turned her head.
‘listen…me and you don’t get along and we both know that—‘
‘is it that obvious?’
‘shut up and listen okay?’ y/n sighed as percy nodded shamefully and let her continue .
‘i know you said it all in me and annabeth’s head…mostly mine? that i tell myself that our mother cares because it’s easier that way.’
percy let his eyebrows frown once more as he shook his head—‘i didn’t say that?’ he looked at y/n who turned her head to him and gave him a small look of which spoke—‘really?’
he shrugged it off and continued to talk—‘look ive been a demigod since…’ looking off to the side to calculate he finally came with an answer—‘last saturday. you shouldn’t listen to me.’ he told her as y/n let what he said soak in.
looking off to the side a bit she came up with some idea—plan for him to take, an offer.
‘you know, this is my mothers place. but? a temple is a temple. maybe you can say hi to your dad while your here?’ she explained.
percy seemed to almost take up her offer but quickly denied it. not wanting to really contact poseidon at the moment.
‘no thanks.’ he quickly shrugged off. this came undeniably confusing to y/n.
‘what could it hurt?’ she genuinely wanted her answer but he still shook his head.
‘your think with your mother…i get it, it’s different, it works for you. but my father…i don’t want anything from him. he had his chances—honestly you’ve done more for me in the past free days than my fathers done my entire life. if i have to stick with someone i—‘
trailing off as he caught himself y/n seemed to catch his slight slip up and tilted her head to the side a bit. her eyes looking him up and down before she smirked a bit—‘careful..i think you were about to call me a friend.’
before the beginning of the quest. before all of this. they had claimed in stone, they were and would never see themselves as friends. nothing more nothing less: the two of them simply didn’t see eye to eye. their priorities were set on two different things, and they both knew that.
but, things seemed to have change a bit on one end, and a lot on the other.
percy slightly looked down at the floor below as y/n turned her own head away from his.
‘somewhere around here the Oracle is laughing at us but you know—‘
as she said this percy seemed to feel insanely dizzy and instantly fell to the floor, y/n being there to catch him—‘whoa! percy? what’s going on?’ she asked him, being careful not to bombard him with too many questions given the fact he just fell out.
her arms being slightly wrapped around his shoulders he held onto her as he let her slowly let go of him. percy slightly sat down onto the floor as he caught his balance.
‘hey! what happened?’ grover and annabeth came running immediately when they saw him fall.
‘i think…i think those stinger things were poisonous…’ percy breathed heavily, his breath seeming to shorten on supply.
y/n looked around and it seemed to click for both the athena children—‘i have an idea’ the both of them claimed.
as the tie of them grabbed up on percy they found themself in the water that sat in front of the museum. with percy sitting down into it, the other three stood as they scooped and splashed percy from the head down with water.
he sat there and took it as they kept going scoop from scoop, hoping something would happen.
passers walked by and some stood to watch what they were doing and they their were kids sitting in the fountain but none took it upon themselves to stop it.
‘the water cured him back at camp! it should work with poison too!’ y/n found herself quickening her scoops of water while annabeth looked momentarily at her sister who wore a very worried expression.
if anything, she’s never seen her this worried. not for a while. not for percy.
‘you know—i think, i think this is working’ percy grabbed onto y/n’s hand who helped him stand—‘this was a great call’ he acknowledged their idea but only to end up stumbling back down into the water with even more dizziness.
‘or not.’ he breathed out.
‘maybe it needs to be naturally running water for Poseidon to heal him?’ y/n mumbled while she placed her hand comfortingly over percy’s shoulder.
grover looked to annabeth who went to speak but just then they heard crashing and sirens going down just ahead of them. they all went to look and seen a police car being flipped into another car.
‘we need to get back inside!’ annabeth went to pick up percy along with grover but y/n was quick to deny.
‘no we need to keep trying!’
‘ this isn’t working y/n—and she’s coming!’ grover sadly looked at y/n who stressed her expression of worry towards percy who looked up at her momentarily before the two of them looked ahead along with annabeth and grover to see echidna slowly strutting her way over to them with a grin.
y/n breathed out and quickly thought—‘okay look, we’ll take percy inside and we’ll go to the temples alter’ y/n went to pick up percy who grabbed onto her arm and hand as the other two helped to pick him up as well.
‘alter? where is there an alter?’ grover asked, frowning his eyebrows at the two.
‘the highest point—the best view!’
‘okay! but what good is that even going to do us?’ grover stressed once more.
y/n sighed and looked over to annabeth who looked at her and percy.
percy had his grip held tight on her as she equally had the same amount of strength being held onto him to secure him from falling.
‘we’re going to get to the top, and we’re going to ask my mom for help’ she breathed out. grover seemed to stop for a bit along with y/n who was nervous about this plan.
‘ask mom for help? annabeth are you insane?’
‘i thought we didn’t ask for help?’ percy put his two senses in making annabeth look over to him. seeing they didn’t have much time for anymore conversations, annabeth ushered the group to begin walking.
‘come on; we need to keep moving’ annabeth spoke in a hurry.
grover placed percy’s other arm over his shoulder to help balance out their walk and annabeth stayed to y/n’s side.
just as they began to walk and y/n with annabeth failed to walk a bit and happened to stumble behind. echidna began screeching to the two girl who turned and started—couldn’t help—but listen. their expressions becoming more flat, a bit worried.
percy took a heavy notice of y/n’s absence and turned to see mainly her with a saddened expression on her face.
why did she look like that? what was she seeing? what was she hearing? his thoughts raced. seeming to focus on her rather than himself being poisoned.
she let her eyes widen and she snapped out of some trance along with her sister who gripped her arm—‘guys? did you hear that?’ y/n looked over to annabeth who nodded immediately.
grover and percy however?
‘hear what?’ percy asked her with concern. grover shook his head and y/n looked at annabeth who sadly looked down.
‘come on—let’s keep walking—go help percy’ annabeth told y/n who jogged to percy’s side and grabbed only his arm once more.

as the group hurried their way around the people who were mindlessly talking with themselves—completely unaware of the danger that was happening for the demigod children. they kept turning around to make sure their backs were clear.
some people would momentarily look at the group who carried one boy who looked like he just seen a ghost as they had their wet clothes tracing the floor as they walked.
the four of them getting into the small sitting elevator, they sat down—‘what was that back there? what did you guys hear?’ he asked the two sisters, but his main eyes trained on y/n who didn’t say a word. annabeth doing the same , she found her pinky slowly reaching over to y/n’s.
she got the hint and fully placed her hand over annabeth’s. percy looked down at their hands and came with the conclusion.
‘she spoke to you two’ percy breathed. his body was cold, and wet. the poison doing nothing more and adding onto his weakness and cold body.
‘alecto did that with me. back in the museum back in new york’ he recalled. annabeth and y/n still not speaking a word, only looking down and blinking momentarily.
percy didn’t really want to admit but he was becoming concerned for y/n’s mind. what did she hear that was bad?
‘what did she say?’ he asked once more.
just then, annabeth looked up in a hurry and squeezed y/n’s hand who looked up as well—and there she was. echidna.
she stood over the small metal balcony with her moneyed baby right behind her.
just as the doors shut they saw the two horns. y/n let her eyes widen along with the rest of the group’s.
grover gulped but began to talk—‘was that the chimera?’ he looked over to y/n who place she head in her hands and held them their in stress—percy looking over with frowned eyebrows as his wet hair dripped into his eye.
‘i—i think that was the chimera!’ grover worryingly spoke. percy let his focus set on y/n who kept nervously looking anywhere but the group.
‘how did the chimera even get inside here? how did any monster get inside here—‘
‘y/n?’ percy breathed out, his worry building up on y/n who kept quiet. annabeth looked over at her sister who didn’t even look at her either.
‘we’re in a secretary, athena would have to let her in but why would she do that?’
‘y/n!’ percy called out to her once more. seeing her eye finally set up upon his own he hoped they could keep their eyes trained on one another.
‘what did echidna say to you?’ he asked—demanded and answer.
she worryingly looked back down before shaking her head a bit, biting on the inside of her cheek.
‘she said my impertinence ruined our mother pride. and that that, would be our doom.’ she looked angrily over at percy who shook his head.
‘impertinence? what kind of—‘ finally recalling. medusa’s head.
giving y/n the look of knowing she gave him a look as well as annabeth and grover watched them talk.
‘ medusa’s head.’ he nodded while y/n shook her head, a frown setting upon her features.
‘i embarrassed my mother…’
percy shook his head while trying to clear up his running thoughts—‘but—i’m the one who sent the head to olympus? i sighed the note—‘
‘and i went along with it! it embarrassed her…now she’s angry. because if your impertinence, and because i was dumb enough to go along with it, we won’t get any help, we won’t get an answer from her!’ y/n shouted to percy who shook his head.
‘y/n—‘
‘no! annabeth, he needs to understand this isn’t some game, this isn’t camp, we can seriously die out here, and he can’t just go around sending dead body parts to the gods just because?’ y/n stressed even more as percy nervously looked at y/n who avoided his eye contact once more.
‘guys…what are we going to do?’ grover broke the silence as they seemed to be near the top of the arch.
‘she isn't going to help us when we get to the top to have percy’ annabeth expressed to grover who cut her off—‘no i mean what are we going to do about echidna and chimera? they're going to be right being us,’ he exclaimed.
as the four of them looked at each other—percy hoping to catch y/n’s eyes but failed he looked down at the floor.
ㆍ୨୧ㆍ
‘we’re not going to have much time’ as the group let themselves out of the elevator, y/n getting out first to leave percy with grover and annabeth to help him out.
percy took a hard notice to this but tried to shrug us off—‘they’ll be up here any minute. and if our mother isn’t going to protect us, then we’ll just have to fight it out up here’ y/n finished as they walked up the short amount of stairs to the top.
once they did was when y/n lost her confidence for a second and saw a huge crowd talking among themselves with phones taking pictures and smiles on their faces.
and when percy, grover and annabeth were behind her, they saw the extent of trouble they were in.
‘oh no…we gotta get everybody out of here’ grover expressed with worry as he held onto percy.
percy looked to y/n who seemed to smile a bit with her idea.
running to the fire alarm she pulled it, setting off a loud beep that got everybody's attention.
as everyone slightly panicked and walked their way down the hall with the others, y/n placed her hand onto annabeth’s shoulder and ushers them along the hall.
‘you guys follow the group down the steps—‘
‘what?’ percy hurried to look at y/n who momentarily look at him then back at grover who spoke.
‘no, no—we—were not spitting up’ grover expressed.
‘grover come on!’
‘y/n i’m not leaving you here!’ annabeth spoke to her sister who gave her a sad look.
‘no… no no no no we’re all getting out of here together’ percy breathed out, hoping to get y/n’s attention. once he did he kept their eyes focused on one another.
‘we won’t make it! the chimera is a demigod killer! someone has to stay back to slow her down and buy everyone some time’ y/n walked with her hand on annabeth’s back while they walked to the steps with everyone going down in a hurry.
once they got to them, grover, annabeth and percy turned to y/n who stood at the door to make sure she shut it before they left.
‘okay—once you get downstairs you need get him to the river. and don’t stop. not till you get to hades. not till you have the hold, do you understand?’ y/n looked at the three before looking at percy, he shook his head in denial.
‘y/n you can’t just stay here and say that and expect me to listen—‘
‘do what i saw annabeth! just this once, okay?’ she pleaded. annabeth shook her head with a frown upon her lips, forever going the same.
‘oaky go!’ she heard the footsteps of the two right behind and went to shut the door only for percy to speak.
not wanting to let her go he quickly came with a plan.
‘wait!—‘ taking the pen that formed into a sword out of his pocket he held it to y/n who looked at it.
flipping it around to make sure the handle would be in her touch, he held it out to her and spoke once more—‘take this’ he held out to her.
as she went to reach slowly, he waited for her grip to hold tightly onto it—only then did he switch sides, pushing her into the room and closing the door.
‘percy!’ y/n yelled out to percy who made sure the door was locked.
‘percy!?’ grover yelled. the three of them baging on the door as percy breathed heavily, his body weak and pale.
‘percy no! don’t do this! they’ll kill you!’ y/n yelled her voice becoming louder but more weak.
‘posiden never helped me before. he wasn’t gonna start now. i would’ve never made it to hades. but you can. and now you will.’ percy talked to them before he walked away from the foot. their banding never stopping.
‘percy! please?! you can’t do this!’ y/n cried out.
walking towards echidna and the chimera who walked their way to percy who’s eyesight blur more and more. causing him to stumble and his weakened grip on his sword.
‘this is the end sweetheart.’ echidna spoke softly, her motherly tone never wavered. ‘don’t fight it. you’ll only make her angry.’ she warned.
as the chimera walked over to percy he held his sword up higher with determination in his eyes. the chimera began to growl as she went to open her mouth, inside a small orange and red glow becoming prominent, percy swung his sword at the leg of the chimera, making it rawr out in anger and slight pain.
ㆍ୨୧ㆍ
behind the door y/n banged harder and harder, hoping somehow he would come back and change his mind.
annabeth couldn’t watch her sister be like this—hurt, confused, mainly disappointed. turning sound as she reached into her pocket to grab her own sword that extended, she let it change its form into a smaller pick pocket knife.
‘you two! go now, go to the bottom of the steps and wait outside, police are bound to show up, so stay with them and don’t move! i’ll meet you down there with percy!’ y/n demanded her sister and best friend who shook their head.
‘y/n please—‘
‘annabeth! listen to me! okay? i’ll be okay, i’ll see you guys down there, go!’ she pushed them slightly as they looked at y/n once more who nodded to the two, giving them a slight smile.
annabeth gave one back as she nodded and grabbed along of grover, the two of them making their way down the stairs.
as y/n turned around the let her knife be placed into the middle of the lock, letting it extend, it did just enough to to break the lock and break the metal of the door.
ㆍ୨୧ㆍ
pulling and pushing its paw up, she pushed percy far into the metal railing of the side of the wall, making him fall and yell out in pain. the chimera snarling at percy. as she walked over to percy once more he laid onto the floor with weak arms and body to see it open its mouth and their in the pit of her throat, fire. being bubbled and arousing through the back of her throat.
‘percy!’ y/n yelled. he turned around immediately to see y/n run towards him and pull him out of the way of the chimera’s fire that erupted through its throat and mouth, spreading and melting the floor below. y/n grabbed ahold of y/n as she pulled him away form the fire.
his grip holding onto her to make sure she was safe and unharmed, y/n quickly checked over percy as he nodded slightly.
in the distance, echidna raised her hand and flexed it towards the floor before them, a huge gaping hole being torn open into the carpet and metal floor. the wind from the highness of the arch blowing into the faces of y/n and percy who held each other.
the chimera roared loudly as y/n went to help percy stand up the two for them made their way over to the chimera with their swords in hand, y/n made her way in front of percy who noticed this and tired to quicken his pace so that he was in front of her.
swinging her sword the chimera dodged it and hit y/n so hard she passed out right onto the other side of the hole.
‘y/n! percy yelled—‘ soon percy tried his turn only to be hit with the chimera’s horns. throwing him back in the walk and down the gaping hole.
the chimera seeming pleased, it walked its way along with echidna to see percy still holding on.
‘y/n! wake up—‘ he grunted.
y/n paid along the side of the carpet ground with her head pounding.
‘so unfair. you never had a chance did you?’ echidna looked down at percy who was praying to whoever that y/n woke up right now.
‘if only someone cared enough about you to provide you with one’ she tilted her head as percy grunted and held onto the metal plate that was the only thing supporting him right now.
‘y/n?!’ he called out once more.
just afar, she grunted and let herself slowly wake up. just as she looked over and grabbed ahold of her sword. seeing echidna shake her head down into the hole she stumbled her way up, the blood on the head running down her eyebrow and down the side of her eye.
‘percy?’ she looked and saw he was nowhere to be found.
putting up all her strength, she stood up and hit echidna across the back of her head with her sword making echidna help out, the chimera turning around to her mother to her y/n had yelled out—
‘percy!’ she yelled seeing him reaching out to her as he fell, she took her jump and went right after him.
the two of them falling down further and further, y/n stretched her hand far enough for the two of them to be holding each other's hand.
as y/n felt herself lose consciousness once more from her injury, percy gripped her hand even tighter, and just as he turned a bit from the air around them, he saw a huge water thing, coming right towards them.
ㆍ୨୧ㆍ
when percy came to. he was under the green water. the small fish and thing around him, he hurried his eyes and head to turn and see y/n not too far from him. her eyes still closed and her hair clouding around her.
swimming out and going to pull her up to the surface, percy felt himself and her go back down a bit—looking to see her foot caught and stuck around something that held her in place.
swimming down a bit to held her foot get unstuck he grunted and strained as the bubbles from his mouth started to flow and go up to the surface. pulling and pulling he suddenly saw something.
something glowing in the green water—‘you are frightened.’ it claimed.
blinking his eyes to see what it was he frowned, but kept pulling at y/n’s foot, his only priority was to get her out.
‘it’s alright percy. your father sent me to tell you, it’s alright.’ he paused a bit at this and looked over at the flowing glow.
‘just breath.’ she instructed. going to do so—he abruptly stopped and went back to pull at y/n’s foot. her head still bleeding and her body still unconscious.
‘your father is here, he’s always been here’ she continued to talk as percy pulled at y/n’s foot.
‘it’s so hard for him to stand back, to see you struggle. it is so hard for us all. but he’s here, and he’s so very proud. trust him. trust yourself. stopping his movements and looking over at the flowing glow, he held onto y/n’s leg who started to shake awake.
her eyes slowly opened and focused to see her and percy and somehow ended up into the water. she looked to see percy looking over at something, following his gaze she saw what he was seeing and frowned.
‘just breath.’ she told once more and when y/n turned down to percy, he breathed in and seemed to be breathing just fine under the water.
looking up at y/n he saw her holding her breath and went right back to pulling her foot with all his might, this time she was there to help. pulling up her foot, percy came with an idea, one that she definitely wouldn’t like.
going up to her, face to face, he placed his hand on her shoulder then soon her neck—if y/n couldn’t speak with her words, she definitely would with her expressions. with one that woke—‘what are you doing?’
he looked down with his eyes at her mouth and she immediately shook her head knowing exactly what he was implying. he looked at her and grabbed ahold of her cheek while she looked down to pull at her foot, her lungs burning and screaming for air.
percy gaining her attention, she blinked the water going in and out of her eyes and she held his eyes with her own. frowning she nodded her head slightly and let percy lean in under the water—his lips setting upon hers he breathed in his air to buy her more time. once they retracted, y/n and percy held eye contact before he kept his hand held on her own.
once he was down to her foot, he tugged as she pulled and soon she was free.
grabbing only y/n, the two of them hurried and swam to the top.
ㆍ୨୧ㆍ
when they got to the surface, they swam to the concrete surface and pulled themselves along the metal rails. y/n got the helping hand of percy who pulled her with the two of his hands.
‘your okay, are you okay? your okay, right!?’ percy rushed to ask y/n who caught her breath and immediately reached up to touch the blood and wound that happened to close up.
looking at percy who half his hand on y/n’s arm and neck he checked her body and she took note of how he was healed as well.
‘percy! i’m okay…im okay’ she soothed him as he slowled his movements and looked into her eyes.
‘you jumped after me…you followed me down not knowing what would happen—‘
‘how could i not percy! how could i not? you are so careless, reckless and so selfish to think nobody would think of you and how you could have died! you left me— us, behind in the staircase to go off on our own and save your mom from the underworld!? how messed up is that percy! she would want to see her son! not two kids who she doesn’t know!’ y/n percy in his chest who stumbles back.
he looked nervously up at y/n trying to grab her hand only for her to slap it away—‘your selfish, greedy, reckless and so so stupid percy jackson! and i’m stupid enough…’ when he heard this he looked at her from the ground to see her slowly shaking her head at percy who looked up at her with hope.
‘i’m stupid enough to be the idiot one as well and jump after you. and i’m stupid enough to have cared so much. too much about you. percy…you can’t do things like that…not now, not even. not as long as i’m alive.’ she felt her eyes water a bit with the amount of worry he put her through when she was behind that door and out of his reach.
percy took note to this and hurried to grab her up and hug her tightly. she arms immediately finding their way around his body and his wrapped along her body as well. the two of them held each other so tightly they forgot about the world around them.
when they let go from the hug that seemed to have lasted forever, sorry nervously laughed. y/n looked confusingly at him with a small grin on her face.
‘so…what happened underwater—‘
‘don’t!’ y/n placed her hands over percy’s mouth who smiled at her as she shook her head in a hurry, her cheeks seeming to redden.
‘y/n!’
‘percy!’ two voices yelled from behind them. the two of them turned around to see grover and annabeth running to them.
‘annabeth!’ y/n happily yelled. as they embraced each other, percy hugged grover who hugged him tightly.
‘your safe’ annabeth breathed out’—but how—‘
‘doesn't matter! what matters…is that we’re together, safe.’ y/n smiled as she turned around to grover and percy. her eyes lingering on percy a bit more which seemed to not go unnoticed by grover and annabeth.
‘come on! we need to get moving’ annabeth held her hand along y/n’s back who walked with her.
as they walked, annabeth and y/n talked amongst themselves while grover and percy walked.
grover noticed how percy’s eyes never left y/n’s form and his focus never left her.
‘so..’ he started. percy let his eyes linger but his head turn to grover before his eyes focused on him.
‘what happened under water?’ grover finished making percy abruptly stopped, pulling grover with him laughed.
‘what—how do you—‘
‘my ears hear many things dude’ he smiled at percy whose face was grew redder by the second.
turning to see y/n and annabeth still walking and talking he turned to grover, turning him around so their backs were friend to the girls.
‘under the water…i found out i can breath. but y/n was stuck so…to give her more air— i had to share my air—‘
‘so you kissed?’ grover interrupted making percy grow red all over—‘don’t say it like that and don’t let her you know! she’ll kill me…she also. happened to tell me she actually cares about me, a lot’ percy smiled at the recalling of what she said.
‘so…she basically confessed she likes you?’ grover added once more. percy looked to the side as he nodded slowly.
‘dude!’
‘grover please! don’t tell her—‘
‘i won’t i won’t!’
percy nervously breathed out before letting go of grover who straightened his jacket.
as the two turned around to see the girl waiting but still taking, grover turned it percy and yelled with a smile—‘so y/n what happened!?’ he ran over to y/n making percy run after him
‘grover!’ percy yelled.

also idk how realistic it is but i think it is sort of cute if wammy's involves occasional educational trips here and there. like oh you can sign up for one little summer trip depending on your age group and then you go with a teacher and a handful of your classmates to some european capital and see art museums and go to the opera or to see an orchestra perform. you get a little bit of pocket change to buy a souvenir. everyone would think they were just a normal school doing a normal field trip but secretly all their passports are fake and some of the kids are horrible little pickpockets competing with each other to see who's the stealthiest.

Steven was usually gone for a good part of the day for work. Which of course wasn't an issue because you had your own work and manage to keep yourself amused till he got home. But Steven didn't actually know what you did all day since you'd be home long before he would. It's not like it mattered though. You'd always be there and have everything like dinner ready once he got home, but if he had to say what you did, then that he wouldn't have anything.
Work was short today. The museum was rented out for the day by the nearby schools for a big field trip. Although they weren't there from beginning to end of the usual work day, they had taken over enough of it to make opening it up to the rest of the public a bit pointless since the hours it would land on were the slow hours. So the museum was closed for the rest of that day and the staff could take a breather from having to deal with a hoard of children, not that Steven was complaining since he was a tour guide at this one and was great with kids to begin with.
Though he did forget that the field trip day was today and wasn't able to give yo a heads up that he'd be home so soon.
As he unlocks the door and steps inside he gets ready to greet you, only for him to not see you on the couch but rather at his cluttered desk looking at your laptop. It sounded like you were on a video call and he feared that you were having some type of business meeting.
Though if your casual sweatpants and silly graphic t-shirt didn't give it away that you, in fact, were not up to important business for work, you loudly saying "Oh yeah! Let's just threaten to stab the vampire lord who already does not like us!" did the trick.
Some voices were heard through your laptop's speaker before you speak again. "No! No! If the Dracula wanna-be incel takes you up on your threat I'm not helping your character. I don't care if I'm the 'party healer'." you laugh, "You came into his castle-" you say before bursting into laugher again with the rest of the people on the call. To which an other voice is faintly heard saying in a shitty deep voice "You come into my cursed land, hide the innocent woman that I'm being creepy towards, and come into my castle and threaten me with a little sword.". The laughing continues with all of you, even pulling a snort out of you which just made you laugh harder. All the while Steven is stood at the door just observing your shenanigans with a confused yet amused face.
You managed to wheeze "Okay. Everyone shut up. My sides hurt." through your laughter and wipe tears from your eyes. Through some chance you glance up to where Steven is and go from easing your laughter to letting out a scream from being startled. You place a hand on your chest and let out "Oh my god! You scared the shit out of me." while looking at him. You ignore your companions asking what's wrong and ask Steven "Why are you standing there? What time is it." as you try and check the time.
"I just came in. Work was over early and I forgot to tell you. I'm sorry." Steven apologized raising his hands up slightly to add onto the sorry. "What are you doing?" he asked, finally setting down his bag.
"I'm playing DnD with some friends." you laugh. "D and D?" Steven questions as he shakes off his coat. "That game where you throw the dice around?" he asks, to which you nod. "Well, it's more than just throwing dice around, but yeah." you mention.
"Like threatening to stab vampire lords?" he asks in a semi-joking manner. "If you're dumb enough, yeah." you respond in the same manner.
Steven walks up towards the desk to get a look at what exactly your doing, "Is this what you do all day while you wait for me to come home?" Steven questions again. "Not every day. Just on this day of the week and for a few hours." you answer.
"So are you just not gonna tell us who that is or...?" a voice pipes up through the computer. "He's my boyfriend, Ronnie." you remark back towards your screen. "Okay? Is he gonna watch us play?" the man on one of the other ends says. "You want my boyfriend to see your character have to do a death save throw?" you reply in a snarky tone before giving Steven a peck on the lips like you normally do when he comes home. "I told you. I'm not going to heal you. I don't waste spell slots on stupidity." you say as you get comfy in the desk chair.
"Can Trixie look at him and says"Don't mind him, please, he's always like that. He knows not what he says." ?" a girl says in the call, to which another says "Roll persuasion." and a number is said by the previous girl, and the other nods.
"I usually cook dinner after the session so sit tight for a while." you whisper to Steven. Steven nods and whispers back "That's alright. I can watch you do this till then if that's okay with you and your mates. This looks entertaining." he whispers back. You nod and turn back to your screen. "Okay, let's continue on with the actual game." you announce. "My boyfriend's gonna watch for a little so behave." you add.
To which someone says "Yay! Conversion!".

Stolen Snacks
Tumblr media
Hopefully you guys like the first fic I’ve written in months! Its a Modern!AU where Itto is a school teacher and Gorou likes playing D&D with his friends.
Fandom: Genshin Impact
Ships/Pairings: Lee!Gorou, Ler!Itto (romantic)
Contains: Talks of eating behavior, SFW, Fluff
Word Count: 2075
=============================================================
Gorou was hungry.
Very hungry.
He has spent almost the entire day with Kokomi, helping her design her new D&D campaign that she was making for their friend group of the Kamisatos, Thoma, Kujou Sara, and Yoimiya. However, in helping her make the campaign…he may have forgotten to eat, which he realized by a pointed grumble of his stomach as soon as he opened the door to his apartment, shared with his boyfriend, Itto.
Grumble
“Oh…” Gorou said aloud at the realization of his self-neglect. With it only being around 3 in the afternoon, he didn't want to eat a whole meal, knowing that he and Itto would enjoy dinner together later. Toeing off his shoes and putting his jacket on the coat rack, he walked to the kitchen and, opening every cabinet imaginable and finding nothing, he thought to himself, ‘There has to be something…’
Gorou always tried to make it a habit to have something available to eat in the apartment, but sometimes both he and Itto just got too busy, and their grocery shopping, or lack-thereof, caught up with them.
His stomach growled again when, from the corner of his eye, he spotted Itto’s snack cakes, sitting on top of the refrigerator.
Walking towards the box of sweet treats, Gorou’s tail wagged and his ears flicked happily until they both stopped as soon as he looked inside the box, seeing that there was only one left. “...I’m sure he wouldn't mind…right?” He thought out loud. “Nah, he would let me have it…”
And with that thought, Gorou reached into the box, grabbed the plastic-wrapped package of cakes, threw out the box in the recycling, not the trash, and walked over to the couch to unwrap and enjoy his first meal food of the day.
*   *   *
At 3:30 p.m., Itto came walking through the door, carefully hanging his jacket on the coat rack and slipping out of his dress shoes, he walked over to the couch where Gorou sat. Seeing his boyfriend, Gorou’s tail started immediately wagging, and he asked, “How was work, Itto?” his head tilting to the side with a smile on his face.
“Ah, it was fine. We had a field trip to the local Inazuman museum and I had to try and keep all of the kids together.” With a frown, he softly whispered, “I almost lost one of them…” Itto was a teacher. He decided, ‘Well, I love being around kids so much and making them happy, that’s gotta be the job for me!’ not realizing that having a classroom of upwards of 30 kids is like trying to tame 30 cats. They do what they want and only listen when they know you’re watching.
Hearing about his missing-child scare, Gorou could only laugh in response, thinking about how funny it would have been watching his precious boyfriend scramble around a museum to try and find a 10 year old.
“Pfft…hahahaha!”
“W-what?! It wasnt funny, Gorou! A kid could have gone missing!”
“Hehehe..r-right…” Gorou tried to hold in his laughter. “Ahand where were they…?”
Itto pouted and looked away. “In the group…I miss-counted…”
At that, Gorou just couldn't hold in his laughter. “Ahahaha! Y-you cohouldn’t count 30 kids! How did you even gehet your degrehehe~!” Gorou teased, now doubling over on the couch in laughter.
Itto pouted and blushed in embarrassment at the comment. “W-whatever! They were all moving around! I’d like to see you try and count 30 moving objects!”
With his laughing fit settling down, Gorou decided that maybe he should apologize just a little. “I’m sorry, babe, I know you can count, I’m just teasing~”
With his blush going away, Itto turned around and headed for the kitchen, wanting to get a snack before their dinner date in a few hours. “Yeah yeah, whatever. I need a snack. I managed to make a reservation as Uyuu restaurant by the way~ I know you love their cak-”
Itto cut his words short at the discovery of his missing snack cakes. ‘I left them here…’ he thought, looking on top of the fridge. “Gorou…did you eat my last snack cake?” He yelled to Gorou in the living room.
Hearing his words, Gorou’s hairs stood up and he froze in place. Not wanting to get caught, he replied, shouting to his boyfriend. “N-no…you must have eaten it!” Right after he said this, a glimmer caught his eye on the coffee table. ‘The wrapper!’ he thought to himself. Gorou went to quickly swipe the wrapper away so that Itto wouldn’t notice, but his luck was caught short, as Itto walked in as soon as he grabbed it.
Looking up at his boyfriend, he shyly smiled. “Ehe…h-hi Itto…”
“Hi pup…” Itto replied, smirking to himself. “Watchu got there~?”
“N-nothing…” Gorou replied, a nervous smile still on his face. “Did you decide to hold out until dinner…?” He asked, noting that no snacks had made their way into his boyfriend's clutches.
“Yeah, I can eat more at the restaurant…wanna open your hand, puppy~?” Itto questioned, walking closer to where Gorou sat, cornering him on the sofa.
“N-not really…” Gorou replied, his smile straining as Itto cornered him.
“Well I wanna see!” Itto said as he lunged for Gorou. Gorou squeaked has he rolled onto his stomach, hiding his hand beneath him.
“Oh I don’t think so, puppy~” Itto teased as he straddled Gorou’s hips as ehe hid his hands from him. “Show me!”
“N-noho!” Gorou squeaked, giddiness overtaking him.
“Oh~?” Itto smirked, leaning over his boyfriend to whisper into his ear. “Well I think I can make you show me, pup~” He teased has he softly blew against his dog-boyfriend’s ear while also sliding one of his nails up his side.
Gorou’s eyes widened before they quickly closed shut as he squeaked and squirmed at the ticklish feelings, a smile growing on his face. “N-nohoho!”
“Yehehes~!” Itto teased, giggling softly as he traced Gorou’s soft sides with his fingernails, slowly dragging them over his shirt up to his ribs and back down. “Come on, pup~ All you gotta do is show me what's in those paws of yours~!” He punctuated his statement with a soft nibble to Gorou’s ear, his ear trying to twitch away.
“Nohohoho! Nohohohot the ehehears! Ihihihitto!” His giggling quickly became laughter as Itto added in “nom-nom” sound effects to his nibbling. He would never admit it, but his tail was also wagging back and forth at the speed of light.
“Ohohohokay! Ohohohokay I’ll show yohohou! Stahahahap!”
Itto quickly stopped his ticklish attack on his boyfriend and leaned back, letting Gorou roll over onto his back as he shamefully looked away and slowly opened his hand. There, staring back at Itto, is what remained of his last snack cake. “Hah! You did eat it!”
“Y-yes, but- W-wait! Nohoho!” Gorou tried to explain himself but was cut short when Itto quickly resumed his tickling.
“I think you deserved to be punished for that, pup. Don’t ya think~?” Itto teased as he quickly began scribbling over Gorou’s tummy with all 10 of his nails. “Tickle tickle tickle~ Who’s a ticklish pup~”
“Ihihitto! C’mohohohon! Knohohock it ohohoff!” Gorou’s laughter doubled as Itto’s sharpened nails found their way under his shirt and to his soft belly, where they quickly discovered his navel, his pointer finger quickly dipping into it and scribbling around the soft skin.
“NOHoHOhO! IHiHIhItTO! LeHEhEhET eE EXpLAHaHahAIn!” Gorou laughed, his face scrunched up as tears of mirth threatened to fall.
Itto smirked and slowed his nails down to a slow and light scratching as he waited for his boyfriend’s explanation. “Okay, go on.”
“Ihi hadn’t eheaten all dahahy, soho when I gohot back thahats the fihihirst thing I fohound and I ahate it! Ihi didn’t thihink you’d be upsehet!”
Itto frowned as his tickling came to a halt. “What? You think I’m mad? I was just teasing you pup.” He scrithced his nails along Gorou’s soft sides, eliciting soft giggles. “But I can ignore that part for now. You hadn’t eaten all day?! Gorou it was 3 p.m. when you texted me that you were home!”
“I’m sorry! Time had just gotten away from me! I was so focused on helping Kokomi with her new campaign that the time just flew by…”
“Gorou, you know as well as I do that Kokomi neglects her own health too, and that Sara has to basically spoon feed her so she doesn’t starve.” Itto frowned at Gorou, whose ears were folded back in shame. Noticing, Itto quickly went to comfort him. “Hey, its alright. But you need to start taking better care of yourself, baby.” Suddenly, a thought occurred to him, a smirk growing on his face. “Actually, I think I need to teach you to take better care of yourself~” He said as he slid his hands higher into Gorou’s shirt and started poking at his ribs.
“N-noho! Nohohot agahahain!” Gorou laughed, his head thrown back as he laughed freely.
“Mhm. I need to teach you a very important lesson in self-care.” Itto smiled, as he dragged his nails over his boyfriend’s ribs, fluttered them down his sides, and scribbled over his tummy.
“NAHAHAHAHA IHIHIHTTO! STAHAHAHAP YOHOU STUPID OHOHONI!” Gorou laughed as his hands locked around Itto’s arms, not doing anything to stop him as his tail happily wagged back and forth between his legs, brushing up against Itto’s back.
“Nah, I don’t think I will~” Itto teased when he suddenly felt the feeling of a tail brushing against his back. “Ohoho? You enjoying thihis, pup~? Thahat kinda tickles, buhut not as much ahas this~” Itto quickly raised Gorou’s shirt with one hand as he leaned down and began nibbling against the soft skin of his boyfriend’s tummy and sides, making sure to add in those “nom-nom” sound effects for extra effect. “Nom nom nom nom. Your laugh is so cute, Gorou~” He teased.
“NAHAHAHA CMOHOHON! PLEHEHEHEASE NOHOT THAHAHAT! BAHAHABE!” Gorou shreiked as his boyfriend nibbled his sensitive middle, the maddening sensations causing him to go ballistic. His reactions were made worse, however, when Itto decided to release some powerful raspberries on his belly.
Gorou bucked his hips as the burst of air passed through Itto’s lips and onto his stomach, the man yelling out in surprise. “NAHAHAHA AHAHAHAH IHIHIHI- STAHAHAHA- NOHOHOHOHO!” Gorou’s eyes pressed closed as ticklish tears started to travel down his cheeks.
“Just one more thing, puppy~” Itto smiled as he grabbed Gorou’s hips and started massaging his thumbs into the sensitive skin as he positioned his mouth right over his belly button and let loose, blowing raspberry after raspberry onto the ticklish spot. Gorou’s laughter turned silent as more tears streamed down his cheeks and his tail swished back and forth quickly, his hips bucking as the maddeningly ticklish sensations overtook his brain. For Gorou, it seemed like an eternity, but Itto really only did it for a few seconds, and as soon as it started, it stopped. Gorou was left a panting mess, a bright red blush covering his face as he brought his arms up to wipe his tears, cover his face, and groan.
“Sorry…” Itto said. “I didn’t do too much, did I?” HE smiled nervously has he laid down on top of Gorou and carded his fingers through his hair, gently scratching at his ears.
Gorou’s tail wagged and his ears twitched as Itto’s nails gently scratched his ears and scalp, left-over giggles falling out as he spoke. “N-nohoho. Ihihim fihine.” He said, circling his arms around his boyfriend in a hug so they could cuddle.
Itto happily kissed his cheek. “Good. But we really need to talk about you not eating, Gorou. I don’t want you to stop looking after yourself, baby.” He said, worried.
“I-I know… I’ll try to not let it happen as often. I’m sorry.” Gorou closed his eyes, relaxing into his boyfriend’s touches.
“Good. It’s fine, Gorou. You can eat all of the strawberry cake you want when we go to Uyuu Restaurant.” Itto closed his eyes and rested his head on Gorou’s shoulder, nuzzling into his neck.
“Thanks, Itto.”
“Of course, pup.”
“...”
“...”
“...Itto you’re really heavy. Can we switch?”
“But I’m comfy.”
”Fine.”
With contented sighs, the two fell asleep, waking up a few hours later and just narrowly avoiding missing their planned dinner-date.
ADKGFADJADSKFJ this took me 2 hours to plan and write but I LOVE IT! I think it turned out great! Let me know what yall think!

(So many sentences) Sunday
It's Sunday here, so I'm getting the ball rolling with some big brother Buck.
...
Turns out, asking your best friend to marry you is easier said than done.
The last time he’d asked someone to marry him, his dad had put a hand on his shoulder and told him to do the right thing. Shannon was pregnant and Eddie was at least half responsible, so they were married a month later.
They’d been young and terrified, but Eddie doesn’t regret his time with Shannon, not when it gave him Chris.
He wants to do it right this time, and it’s not just Buck he needs to consider. There are four of them in this family. Because that’s what they are. That’s how Eddie’s been thinking of them, even before Buck and Zac moved in two years ago.
In that time they’ve been raising two kids together. They’ve been to parent-teacher interviews, school field trips, and supervised birthday parties. They’ve nursed both kids (and each other) through injury and illness together, sitting for hours in the ER when Chris broke his arm and when Zac had appendicitis.
(keep reading under the cut)
Eddie spends the whole weekend stewing over it, trying to get Chris and Zac alone without Buck around to overhear. It’s not easy when they’re both either at work together or at home together.
A whole week passes before he gets the opportunity.
It’s Tuesday afternoon. Buck’s at work, having swapped a shift with Jackson so he could have the next day off to chaperone a field trip at Zac’s school.
The sound of screeching children drowns out the low rumble of the engine as Eddie waits, windows rolled down, for the pick-up line to crawl forward.
It’s hot, and the AC is broken again, pushing through stagnant air that’s only marginally better than the warm breeze blowing in through the window.
Eddie wipes sweaty palms against his jeans and lets the truck roll forward to the front of the pick-up bay.
“Eddie!” Zac is as enthusiastic as ever as he throws the back door open and clambers into the back seat. He freezes halfway across the seats, leaning over into the front. “Where’s Buck?” he asks, peering around like his six-foot brother might magically materialise in the front seat.
“He’s at work, remember,” Eddie tells him, biting back a smile at the confused look on the ten-year-old’s face.
“Oh, yeah.” The confusion clears and Zac grins, scrambling into his seat. “Did you know you can tell the age of a mammoth by counting the rings on its tusks?”
“Uh, no?” Eddie blinks at the sudden conversation shift and turns to shoot Zac a fold smile. “Seatbelt.”
“Yeah, it’s like how you can count the rings on a tree,” Zac continues, reaching for his seat belt. “And there’s a mummified baby mammoth that we might get to see.”
“On the field trip?” Eddie asks, piecing the puzzle together.
He’s not sure who’s more excited for the trip– Buck or Zac. Their kitchen table is currently buried under the pages and pages of notes and education resources Buck had printed off the museum’s website.
“Hey Dad?” The front passenger door swings open and Chris shoves his crutches into the footwell. “Can I go to Matt’s house after school tomorrow?”
“Not on a school night,” Eddie tells him, waiting for his son to put on his seatbelt. “Maybe on the weekend.”
“But Dad,” Chris starts, “he just got Tears of the Kingdom and he said I could play it.”
“Aren’t you still grounded?” Zac asks from the back seat.
“No, Dad said I’m not anymore.”
“It’s still a school night,” Eddie says, flicking on the indication to pull away from the school. “And you have homework. Why don’t you wait until the weekend?” he suggests. “You could have a sleepover.”
“Yeah, okay.” Chris pulls his cellphone out of this bag and Eddie turns his attention back to the road, his fingers drumming against the steering wheel.
“Hey, so I was thinking we could stop at the beach before going home,” he says, his hands suddenly feeling sweaty again.
“Really?” Zac asks, his reflection in the mirror leans forward in his seat and Eddie can feel his feet swinging against the back of his chair. “Can we get ice cream?”
“I thought I had homework,” Chris says slowly, lowering his phone.
“I know, we won’t stay long. I just— there’s something I wanted to talk to you about,” Eddie says, glancing back up to the mirror. “Before we get home.”
Chris’ expression twists into something thoughtful. “Is it about Buck?” he asks. “Is that why you picked us up from school?”
“I pick you up from school all the time.”
“Yeah, with Buck,” Chris responds, his tone edging into suspicion. “Because you hate driving.”
“I don’t hate driving,” Eddie argues.
“But Buck drives all the time,” Zac pipes up, joining Chris in this gang up on Eddie hour. “You never drive.”
“Buck’s at work,” Eddie reminds them. “And yeah, fine. It is about Buck, but it’s also about you guys and me and—” he stops and forces himself to take a breath. “Let’s just get to the beach and then we can talk.”
“Wait, are we getting ice cream because it’s bad?” Chris asks, his voice wavering. “Did something bad happen?”
Eddie resists the urge to bang his head against the steering wheel. God, he’s already screwing this up.
“It’s nothing bad,” he says instead and pulls into a parking spot, cutting the engine. “It’s good. I promise.”
They all bundle out of the car and head over to the little van that sells soft serve and slushies, and Eddie buys both kids an ice cream, stuffing his pockets with napkins for the inevitable mess that will follow.
They walk down to the beach, Eddie carrying Chris’ ice cream as they pick their way across the sand to find a spot near the water.
“So,” Eddie starts, handing over the ice cream. He wipes his hands on his jeans again, the stickiness more to do with nerves than the dripping mess Chris is eagerly digging into. “I wanted to talk to both of you about me and Buck and—” he hesitates, bracing himself. “How would you guys feel if me and Buck got married?”
“You’re getting married?” Zac sits up on his knees, his eyes lighting up.
Eddie laughs, handing over a napkin. “Well, I haven’t asked him yet,” he admits. “But I want to.” He glances across at Chris. “Only if both of you are okay with it.”
“Yes!” Zac cheers, the ice cream dripping down his hand forgotten in his excitement.
“Chris?”
His son’s lips press together deep in thought. “If you and Buck get married, does that mean he’ll be my dad too?”
“If that’s something you want,” Eddie tells him, watching carefully for Chris’s reaction.
A bright smile spreads across Chris’ face and he nods fervently.
“Yeah, that would be cool.”
The last of Eddie’s anxiety fades.  “So, you’re happy if I ask him?”
“Yes!” Both kids nod and Zac says, “Me and Chris will be brothers.” Then he notices the ice cream running down his arm, soaking into his sleeve and hurries to lick it up.
“No we wouldn’t,” Chris tells him. “Not really, Buck isn’t your dad.” He finishes his ice cream. “I think you’d be my uncle.”
Zac’s smile falters. “But you’re older, and I don’t want to be your uncle.”
“You can be brothers,” Eddie tells him, handing over more napkins so they can start cleaning themselves up. “But you can’t say anything to Buck. It’s got to be a secret, just for a little while.”
“Okay.”
Nodding, Eddie lets out a long breath. The conversation had been easier than expected, though in hindsight it shouldn’t have been a surprise. Both boys love Buck as much as Eddie does.
Still, that’s step one done. Now all Eddie needs is a ring and the perfect moment.
Easy.

hey, it's leverage anon back at it again! do you think roy and keeley crossed paths previously in this au, maybe on opposite sides of a job where roy was hired to protect something keeley was trying to steal (and keeley wins obvi)? or do you think they've only heard of each other through word of mouth and when they actually meet, it's like the spiderman meme with them pointing at each other like "ROY KENT???" "KEELEY???"
Oooohhhhh
I do think that at first it's in the same vein as Ted Lasso, where they know of each other, they've moved in similar circles for years, their names are all over London but they've just never had occasion to meet.
I think the spiderman meme comes screeching into play when they have a Rashomon Job moment where they both realize they foiled each other's heist going after the same golden scepter on the same night and they're both like, "THAT WAS YOU?!!"
In Keeley's defense she was undercover as a waiter so of course she was rocking her Bjork wig with the purple stripe so people wouldn't take a closer look at her face. And there was this guy there, a real proper intellectual type, with the glasses and the sweater, and the look he kept giving her! Piercing eyes, like they could see deep into her soul. She was so rattled that once she went into the vents to make her move, she didn't want to come back out!
In Roy's defense he was at a low place, making the switch from hitting to retrieval specialist, and his hair was like. So long. So curly. Bushy beard. And he was wearing glasses he stole from a guy in the car park (and busy cursing himself because fuck he might actually need glasses), and he had a cozy nerd sweater on so like. Everyone was looking but it wasn't because they were looking for Roy Kent, they were looking for a different reason, you feel?
Meanwhile Rebecca's like "you BOTH were trying to steal my ex-husbands tacky golden scepter under my nose? While I was trying to steal it?" And that confuses Ted because, "If you were already married to him, why would you need to steal it? It's technically yours at that point," and Rebecca is like, "Exactly. I was married to him, Ted. Of course I wanted to steal it."
Meanwhile Beard is just side-eyeing Jamie who ain't said shit.
And the longer Keeley, Rebecca, and Roy go round and round the only thing they agree on is there was this skinny little teenage kid at the museum like on a fucking field trip and he was annoying like he was just constantly underfoot no matter where they went-
"Oh, I know who you mean! He was rather sweet. Kept asking for a glass of champagne- cheeky little thing."
"Was that the one who kept wandering off from the pack? Insufferable. Every time I thought I had an opening, security would interrupt to tell me they found a child wandering into the cordoned off areas. By the time I had a chance to intercept the stupid sceptor, someone had replaced it with a champagne bottle."
No, he was fucking annoying and he dogging Roy's heels and asking Roy questions about Rothko and Hockney ("It's not about the composition. The colors are richer because of the depth of the layers" and "Because he's a twat," respectively). Roy finally thought he got lucky when he nudged the kid towards a buffet table and he started scarfing down food but then the kid almost choked to death and Rebecca does remember that actually she had to take him in the back so they could make sure his parents wouldn't sue have some medical doctor guest take a look at him.
And now Beard and Ted are both just looking at Jamie, and Ted has a bit of a smile on his face, and he's just like, "Jamie? Do you have anything you want to share with the class?"
Jamie winces and admits it was his one and only cyber heist - drawing up a fake school record to get in with a field trip, writing a little program that would temporarily disable the security cameras and motion sensors- he'd done it as a dare to himself to see if he could do it. And- "I never technically stole it. Got as far as stashing it in my school bag, and then the bag went missing. Lost my homework and everything."
And now it's Ted's turn to look apologetic, "Well I am awfully sorry about your homework, but let me tell you- that essay you wrote on Napoleon? Really good stuff. If I was your teacher, I'd have given you an A."
And that's the record scratch moment because Ted? Turns out he was the """medical doctor""" who volunteered to go with Jamie, but was actually there to keep an eye on things for his old security company.
Also they shouldn't beat themselves up to bad about losing because the scepter was a fake. See, once he found it ("in a highschooler's backpack no less!" "no, Ted, we don't call them that here") he got to thinking that the whole thing was mighty suspicious so he did what any normal midwest man would do if he thought he was being taken for a fool -- he called up a friend he knew who'd been to prison and asked if there was a way to tell if gold was fake.
"Lick it."
"Pardon?"
"Lick the scepter. If it's real gold you'll be able to tell."
"...Okay, but for the record I just want it to be acknowledged how much trust exists in this relationship."
And that's how they all (failed) to steal Rupert Mannion's (fake) golden scepter (what a twat).

what could’ve been — joel miller x reader
summary: in jackson, you and joel talk about how things might’ve been, had you met outside of all the mess
warnings: its just fluff. its straight fluffy drabble.
Tumblr media
After a day that wasn't particularly long at all, that hadn't left you tired or sad, that resembled something regular—as close to it as you could come in a post-apocalyptic world, anyway—nothing mattered because, still, all that you had wanted was Joel. You wanted him next to you, filling the air with his musk of wood and leather. You wanted his hand to hold and his lips to kiss. That was all.
Hence the instant relief when you heard the creak of your front door after a quick jangle of his spare key, and the immediate apologies that he cast down the hallway, explaining that Tommy had needed a hand with cleaning up some mess at the bar.
You were glad to see him when you did, having rushed out immediately from the lounge and finding him with one boot in his palm and the other still on his foot.
At just the sight of him you were grinning like a kid with ice cream.
He was tackled into a hug before he could even return the gesture with one of his more tame smiles.
Through a light chuckle, he said, “I missed you too.”
Head sunken into the crook of his neck, you mumbled some weak response, breathing him in. He did the same, his lips pressed against the top of your skull as he could finally do more than just imagine the scent of your strawberry shampoo.
It wasn't after long that the two of you were tangled up on the couch, just talking, when a thought crossed your mind.
“Do you think we would've had a chance, were it not for all of... this?”
“If I'd known you then... I would never have let you go.” You smiled again up at him. Joel did the same, briefly pressing a kiss to your cheek before holding your face in his palms. “Just like now.”
Through your nose, you exhaled slowly, contently.
“I wish it didn't have to be like this,” you uttered, “I wish I could take you places.”
He tilted his head. “Yeah?”
“Mm-hmm. I would've been the first person to get you outta Texas; would've been momentous,” you giggled lightly.
“Oh really?” he leaned back slightly. “Well, you'd have had to abduct me.”
You shrugged, “Maybe. But you'd like it, that place we'd go. Sicily—my mom's family had a lemon orchard there. Of course, I'd abduct Sarah, too,”
“Of course.”
“Yeah. We'd head down there in the fall, when they start to ripen, and would look out at the sea and fall asleep in the fields, looking at the stars. It's so beautiful there.”
As you spoke, you watched as his eyes closed slowly and he pictured it, breaths slow and heart rate steady.
“You'd meet my family and they'd get you drunk to show they loved you. We would do anything we wanted. And when we got back we'd already be planning the next visit—my parents usually go around Christmas. We'd think about bringing Tommy along, too. Back in our lives, we'd fill the time with trips to the museum for Sarah, and card games that I'd win, and she'd meet a quirky girl at school with a weird sense of humour—shitty puns and sarcastic comments. And I'd kiss you every night before we fell asleep and then every morning before breakfast.”
When he opened his dark brown eyes yet again and found you smiling he couldn't help from doing the same. “Sounds perfect.”

Museum of Science and Industry Field Trip
Hi hi! My family decided to get a membership to MSI, so here’s a little self-insert fic! As usual, the reader is an age regressor and the author is their caregiver. All pictures were taken by me. Brief mentions of Pompeii are included, just FYI. Hope you enjoy! :)
Tumblr media
Alright kiddo, are you ready for the museum? You’re right, it’s not the one we usually visit - we’re going to the science museum today!
Tumblr media
Alright, careful on the escalator… And here we are! What do you think? Yeah, it is a little noisy today. Are you okay? Of course we can take a break, whenever you need to. Now, what would you like- Oh, you’re right! Let’s look over there!
Tumblr media
How do you think they got so many airplanes up on the ceiling? It must have been tricky… Yeah, maybe a crane!
Tumblr media
Can you read what that sign up there says? Good job, ‘Queen of Speed’. I guess this train is pretty fast. Not as fast as my kiddo… I know I’m being silly, but you CAN be pretty quick.
Tumblr media
Which do you like better, the big trains or the little ones? I think the little trains are pretty cool. And these models show trains traveling all over the country - look, Chicago’s over here!
Tumblr media
Before we go see the Pompeii exhibit, come over here. I want to show you something… I know, they’re pretty cute, aren’t they? No, sorry sweetheart, you can’t pet them. But we can look at them and watch them playing.
Tumblr media
Now, we’re not going to go to the other part of the exhibit today. Because the other part is a little scary. Pompeii was a city that was destroyed by a volcano, and the other part has a little movie about the eruption. I know you’re a brave kid, but I really don’t think we should go see it today. Maybe when you’re older, alright? Oh, don’t pout, silly bug. We can still look around here and see what Pompeii was like before it was destroyed. What do you think of the statue?
Tumblr media
The weather exhibit has a lot of fun stuff - look, it’s a little tornado! Now tell me, what do we do if there’s a REAL tornado? Go to the basement, exactly! You’re so smart.
Tumblr media
Here, turn this little prism and look there… Yes, you made the rainbow move! Good job, sweetie.
Tumblr media
Alright, when the Tesla coil turns on, it’s going to be very loud. Are you ready? Three, two… Wow! Isn’t that neat? Look at the lightning!
Tumblr media
Oh, there’s the plane we saw downstairs! I didn’t notice the people inside before. Mannequins? Are you sure? Well, if that’s what you say, it must be true!
Tumblr media
What cool clothes. A coat that can bark, a dress that lights up… Oh wow, look at these neat backpacks! I wonder if we could find one for you…
Tumblr media
The Idea Factory is quiet today. Would you like to go inside for a few minutes? No, I think it’s okay. Come on. Look at all the cool machines!
Tumblr media
Ooh, I think I like this the best. See, when you press the button all these cool little things go up and then float down - like a giant sensory bottle!
Tumblr media
I love the I Spy hallway! In every display, there’s a list of things to find… Look, a mad scientist! Think we can find all the hidden things in the lab?
Tumblr media
Wow, this is a pretty cool farm, huh? Look at all the cows! I’m going to see if I can take you to a real farm sometime. Cows are beautiful animals, and it’d be great to see a real one up close.
Tumblr media
Oh, this is my favorite part of the whole museum - the Fairy Castle. Isn’t it amazing? It’s like a giant, magical dollhouse…
Tumblr media
Can I tell you a secret, sweetheart? The castle makes me a little sad. Well, because it’s so big and so cool, and I wish I could take it home and keep it. You’re right, that wouldn’t be fair - so many other people love it too, and they’d be sad if they couldn’t look at it anymore. But that’s still how I feel, and it’s okay. It’s always okay to feel things, you just have to be careful about what you do.
Tumblr media
Ooh, this is pretty neat. This pendulum shows how the Earth is always spinning! It always swings in the same direction, but because the Earth is moving, it looks like the pendulum is moving!
Tumblr media
Alright, I think it’s time we head home. Did you have a fun day, sweetheart? That makes me happy.

My lips are very dry and I think I am dehydrated. Because I've been talking for the last couple hours. Yapping you could say. And I just had such a lovely day that started so unbelievably stressfully that you would not believe it.
I slept okay last night. I felt really nauseous right before we went to bed but me and James stayed up a little bit later together and I would drink some more water and felt slightly more normal. And I didn't wake up much even though James said that sweetie was committing Kitty crimes all night. There was evidence. Stuff all over the ground that he pulled down. But I woke up with my alarm and felt pretty good. I even gave myself a extra 10 minutes. When I woke up it was drizzling but not raining too hard yet. I still have the coastal advisory of my phone so I would prepared and I wore my new rain boots which were very comfortable. I also packed my dock sandals and an extra pair of socks and my eyeliner and a sweater because I would be working at the museum tonight and I wanted to look nice. And James waited for me but they probably shouldn't because they would end up getting soaked on their bike ride and I felt so bad. I should have just driven them to work but they said no. I'm so sorry that they got that though I feel so bad about it.
My drive to work though was very scary. It was raining buckets at points to the point that I couldn't see. And people were driving crazy pants. And we had to go super slow at times and it was just not a pleasant drive to work. But I made it just a couple minutes after 8:00 and I was doing okay.
I knew that we didn't really have to be there till 9:30 so I had some time to work on my research for the shield designs and eat my breakfast and just kind of enjoy the morning. And that's what I did for about 40 minutes. Around 9:00 I saw a car coming up and I just assumed it was Sarah. And then I saw someone come up on the porch and I just assumed it was Sarah. And then that person knocked on the window and it was a man. And I open the door and I'm like hello. And they're like hey I'm here for the field trip. I was like excuse me. Because the field trip we had today doesn't have parents so what are you talking about. And it turns out that one of my Native American field trips was actually scheduled for today when I thought it was on the 26th.
This was so incredibly stressful. I thought I was going to throw up for about an hour. I told him oh my God I didn't know you're coming today but that is okay we're going to make this work I just need your help. And so me and him jumped on the gator together. I called Elizabeth and she told me to lean on the other staff. And as soon as Sarah and Rachel came in I sent them off to do things for me and Nick would come in and help me as well. They got the hacienda set up and would go and grab stuff from the lunch for me while I was running around like a crazy person.
Me and the dad drove the gator over to tools and dwellings at the Pueblo and I asked something about the schedule that I had printed and he was like oh no this isn't right It's only Three groups not five. Not even four. And I was like wait how many kids does this group have but I didn't ask that follow up question and that was my mistake. Because he ended up being wrong and it was four groups. And the original original schedule I had was actually correct and everything was fine. I got him set up and Sarah brought the rest of my materials up to the hacienda and of course the school was exactly on time at 9:45. And I was like on the verge of losing it. Thankfully all of my volunteer parents had shown up a few minutes after I got back from printing the schedule and I was able to walk them all to their sites and get them acclimated but most of them had already been here apparently from 2019 so I didn't have to worry too much and they all were honestly some of the best parents I've had in a very long time. Like most of my parents are great but these parents that we had were so good that like they could probably do it as a job. Like they were doing songs and dancing and just really filling the 35 minutes and I was just thrilled.
I had to catch my breath but once the bus got there I ran down and I chatted with them for a second just to get everyone on the same page and we got inside and I jumped right into it. And my intro was good but not as detailed and I didn't ask as many questions cuz I was a little overwhelmed. And one of the problems with being in the hacienda is that the one toilet is broken right now and just continuously flushes and it's kind of loud. And I felt really bad about it cuz there's nothing I can do about it It just keeps flushing. And I had to tell them like hey I know this sounds really scary but like I'll hurt you I promise.
And the intro went good and then we were able to jump into fibers and I timed it really well because I was worried when I finished my intro early but then I was going to have too much time and fibers wouldn't take as long but we ended up finishing fibers with enough time to then break into our groups and just kind of move slowly and it was like totally chill. And I remember this teacher from years past and she is great even though she frowns constantly and I think she's mad at me but she's not she keeps telling me how much she loves me. Honestly a bunch of the parents were on the walkie talkies today telling me how much they left me and how great they thought I was and that just made me feel really good.
I had a lot of moments today where people were just being really nice to me. I don't know if I just looked like I needed it but everyone was complimenting me and tell me how pretty I was. And I was just feeling good. And I got to be really good at my job and I love that.
The field trip itself was great. I seriously think I walked about 40,000 steps today though the way my body aches and I was making so many loops. I was just bopping from one site to the next and checking things out and while I was doing that I was also flipping rocks I did not find any good critters. But I did find witches butter twice. And that was very exciting for me because that's my favorite mushroom right now. And I ended up having some really lovely conversations with chaperone parents including one who offered to be on the lookout for me for supplies because she's a professional organizer and she comes across stuff all the time that people are getting rid of and she would love to have someone that she could contact about getting it and I am a hoarder pack rat when it comes to supplies. So that could be a lovely little friendship.
It was getting warmer and I was having a really nice day even though I was a little exhausted. And after lunch I would spend most of the last hour of my field trip wandering around lower camp photographing the shields. Would you like to guess how many shields there are down there? Because it's 92. So I found all of the signs that I could and hopefully did not miss any or many. I still have to do upper camp but Elizabeth doesn't think there's very many up there so we're not that worried about it. But I will be able to start my research and organization of the shields and that's really exciting for me because I love having a little project and this is one that I think will be really beneficial in the long term.
While I was walking around doing that I was also answering the walkie and doing my job. One of our kids had an allergy attack I felt really bad because they weren't allowed to give him allergy medication but his eyeball swelled all up. So we got him to wash his face and we just hope that the fresh air would help.
While I was wandering around I also was going through the field where the other group was having their field trip that I was supposed to be a part of. It was our last end to go group and they were great but oh my God. We warned them that the Gaga pit was muddy. But Gabe decided that it was okay and these kids were So absolutely covered. Just head to toe soaked in mud. And I sat down for a second to organize my folder of photographs and a little girl came and sat next to me and she was coded just tow to hip. And she had splashes all over her face and she just pouting and she goes My mom's going to be mad at me. And I said yeah probably but thankfully you're washable. And then I told her she had mud inside her ear and she said oh no We had a very good little laugh about it. This was a very sweet group and I really hope they had a good day and I hope their parents are prepared for how messy their kids were going to come home.
At the end of my program Elizabeth called me to ask how I clean up the printmaking stuff which I now realize I forgot to grab but that is not a big deal. I can get that next week. And after that I went to the hacienda to wait for my group to be done. When everybody came I would do some questions and went over stuff and all of them seem like they learned a ton and that was really cool. I had them say thank you to the chaperones and volunteers. And then I said goodbye.
I spent the next hour cleaning the hacienda. And it was kind of hard to do it by myself. I hate having to put away the chairs and the tables and sweep. But I did it it just took a while. And while I was there a contractor came up to the end of a measure stuff and I didn't know who it was. So eventually I introduce myself and he asked about going downstairs to measure the bottom half of the building so I had to go to the office to get pool key and then I came back and finished sweeping. And I was going to get the gator to get the rest of my materials but Chloe had the key and I wasn't about to walk to the other side of camp to get it so I just used our car and I loaded it up. I put the staffs hanging out of our window because they are too tall. And it didn't take that long so it was totally fine. I drove down to the woodlands to double check commission The fire was good and then all the materials were put away nicely and then I went back up to the office. I checked in. And I let everybody know I was going home. Well not home but I was getting out of there.
Blue was laughing at me for beep bopping around all day and how I better be getting my steps counted but I am not actively wearing a pedometer right now. I'm going to have to get a battery for my Pikachu one again. I'm not sure if it's working but we will have to see. I would like to wear that this summer so that is definitely something for me to look into.
But it was time for me to go. I had to get something to eat before working at the museum tonight. I drove over to cockeysville and went to Wawa and while I was waiting for my sandwich the girl making the sandwich asked me if I knew how pretty I was. I was like what??. And she was like you're beautiful. And I was like thank you that's so nice. It relief just made my day.
I ate my sandwich in the car. And I watched a video about someone I did not care about and thought was kind of a horrible person. Just some YouTuber who apparently was very famous that recently died that I did not care about but apparently it was very controversial. And kind of terrible. And then I headed to work. I wanted to get there early so me and James could see each other for a few minutes. And when I got there James's backpack was sitting outside in the parking lot. I went inside and I was like James that's not safe this is why people with rob you all the time. Which is facetious I know. But still. Don't leave things sitting unattended.
James would leave to come home to meet their dad to go to the baseball game. And I had a lovely night at the museum. The other Jesse is so much fun. Like really I think we could be very good friends because he's so funny and he gets my humor but like in a dead pant sort of way and that's really nice. And I had a great time just goofing around for the first hour. Talk into the catering staff going through drawers and just having a good time. Chatting with the security guard. Who I eventually made the security guard and Jesse take a photo with photo with me. Because I thought it would be funny and I was correct. And it was just a lot of fun because it was a charity event. And it looked beautiful. They did such a good job.
I wouldn't have that many people come back but the ones I did were really lovely. And they said I was so good at my job and so informative. And they all had very good like follow-up questions and conversation. I got to turn on the museums machines and eventually I was making a loop around to the pharmacy just to see if anyone was in there and I saw that the garment loft was open. So I went and checked with Jesse if it was supposed to be and it wasn't but we decided it wasn't worth arguing over and I went in and gave a talk in there too and a couple of the same people from before came but some extras did as well and it was just so nice. Like I got to tell my stories and people were really interested and giving great facial expressions. And I got to talk about other stuff like art and travel and just how much I love living here. My husband. Everyone got a big laugh because I was wearing James's name tag tonight and they're like you don't look like a James. And I just love working at the museum.
While I was there I also got an email from Jessica and she offered me the education positions for the events for May because there was only three of them and I can take two of those three and I'm really excited about that. I hope that we get back in that habit because I want all of the events but I know that's not always fair. And also I can't actually do all of them because I'm very busy. But I'm really excited to do more because I really really enjoy that part of the job.
I left after chasing Jesse around so that we could take a photo booth photo. And I just got home. It's getting really windy. I'm not sure when the game is over I think it's about halfway done now. But I'm going to go inside and I'm going to get ready to chill out. Tomorrow I have no plans I'm hoping to do some house stuff. And then on Sunday I have some photos I need to do and some work for some upcoming stuff and then on Monday I also have nothing and it's great. This is just going to be like a nice little relaxing getting ready to go on our trip weekend. I might even pack. We'll see.
I hope that you all have a great night and you are taking care of yourself. Stay safe and rest. I love you all.

O Sol E A Lua (a moonknight x reader fanfic)
(The future chapters for this fanfic shall be posted via wattpad and AO3, but I wanted to give the tumblr people a taste of the first chapter on here!)
(Also, two things:
>I write very spaced out, mainly because it’s easier for me to process while reading. if you don’t enjoy reading fanfics in that style, this will NOT be for you
>this fanfic will include ALL alters, not just one, so keep that in mind!
Other than that, enjoy! :-) )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You fiddled with the ring on your finger while looking out the window. The sound of chattering kids on the bus had caused you to space out, so you we're occupying yourself with your own thoughts once again. If past you had seen current you, they would be laughing at how silly your whole situation was at this moment. You, a previous military soldier, now watching over a bunch of kids on a field trip to the museum? You were definitely too overqualified for this job. However, your mother had insisted you volunteer for this to watch over your youngest sibling. You don't know if she had noticed you distancing yourself from everyone again, or if she saw this as a prime opportunity to have you and your little brother bond, but both were completely in the realm of possibility. After all, she knew how this month was hard for you.
It was the month he died.
A loud hiss snapped you out of your trance-like thoughts as you realized you had made it to your destination. Once the last kid had walked out, you quickly followed behind as you helped guide the kids up the stairs to the looming building ahead. It was huge, you had never seen a museum as expansive up close before. Hell, you hadn't seen the inside of a museum at ALL, save for watching the Night at the Museum franchise, but you highly doubted you would see any little cowboys or Roman soldiers in here. As far as you knew, this place specialized in some ancient civilization or another, but you forgot which one they-
Oh
Towering pillars with various drawings and a few ancient sarcophagus remnants hinted at the theme of the whole place. Ancient Egypt. You knew that you were going to some art museum, but it seems they currently had some Egyptian exhibit going on. Fate had some sick sense of humor, considering how his last mission was related to such ruins. And of all the months too, it had to be this one.
A sheet of ice coated over your heart as you continued through the tour with the rest of the children. It's just for an hour, you could survive this!! Adjusting your blue jean button up, you walk past a brightly lit gift shop, noticing a couple of people in your peripheral.
"...looks like another school is comin' in today! Aww, don't they look cute Donna?"
"Steve, if I wanted to spend my time at work watching some kids, I'd be a stay at home mom. Just keep tagging those plushies, please!"
You paid no mind to the conversation from the gift shop, maybe once you cleared your head you could stop by, but your main goal was to stop yourself from crying in front of everyone.
.
.
"...it is said that Hathor was not only the goddess of love, but also music!"
Ok yeah, this was getting very boring
After about 45 minutes of chatter about things that you had almost no interest about, you decided to actually take a peak at the gift shop. With no one in sight as you walked in, you wondered if everyone from earlier had went to lunch? Never the less, you gazed at all of the cheap Knick Knacks and plushies. God, these were all way too cheaply made for WAY too high a price.
Fossil digging kits, gem stone creation kits...slime kits? How is any of this actually history related?
However, one little thing did catch your eye.
It was a small pair of earrings, that had a circle with a line along the bottom, and both shapes being wrapped together with another small piece of metal.  You assumed it had to be some type of god's symbol, or even some symbol of death or whatever, but again, Egyptian mythos was NEVER one of your strong suits. You were more of a Norse and Roman mythology person yourself.
But no matter, it was cute, way too expensive, and would mark the day you actually braved through an entire exhibit that reminded you of nothing but your previous heartbreak. If that was something to even commemorate.
As you walked up to the counter, still not a soul in sight, you began fiddling with the other toys around the check out stand. One thing in particular was this wooden popping rifle, which reminded you of your old military days. you pretended to fight off swarms of enemies, popping the gun every now and again, when some footsteps from behind caused you to swing your whole body around.
Including the toy gun.
"He-OW!"
As the victim of your swing covered their now injured face, you dropped the toy to tend to their wound
"OHMYGOD I am SO sorry!-"
"Nonono! It's ok I shouldn't have scared you-"
"No I shouldn't have been playing with that stupid toy-"
"I-it's fine, really! It's just my nose, no biggie!!"
As the male figure revealed his face, you had to take a second to realize who was standing in front of you.
It was a man, who wore clothing that almost seemed too big for him, maybe hand-me-downs? He had black curly hair, much too ruffled for it to even seem slightly professional-
And the exact face of your old friend.
Too stunned to speak, you stared at the man as he awkwardly cleaned himself up as best as possible, before giving you a smile, a bandaid now covering his nose
"See? All better! Just a wee little mark, ill get by!"
This man sounded nothing like the man you knew, but had, seemingly, the same exact face? What kind of shit day is this?
"N-names Steven by the way! Friends call me Steve. Or, well, more like my boss does. Everyone else just calls me ol' Steven!"
This man was also WAY too dorky to be him too
"Hey, a-are you ok? I didn't mean to scare you, honest!"
Shaking you out of your thoughts, you give a polite smile anyway.
"Nono, your ok!! You just...look so familiar? But it's probably just my bad memory gettin' to me."
"Oh!" Steven remarked, a sigh of relief escaping him. Had he really been anxious about upsetting you, even though YOU hit HIM in the face?
"I actually get that a lot. Many people say I got the strikin' resemblance to a celebrity or two! Mainly my mum, but I still get it every now and again!"
Looking down, the man's face lit up at seeing the little trinket you had in your hands.
"OH!! You're gettin' some Shen Ring earrings?? That's actually a very fascinating symbol! In many cases it was used as a symbol of protection, so it's very fitting to wear it on some jewelry!"
This caused you to raise an eyebrow
"You actually know about this kind of stuff?"
"W-well ya! I love Ancient Egypt. I actually originally applied to be a guide through the museum's Egyptian section, However they told me the only space open was in the gift shop."
"Sooo they thought you weren't qualified?"
"I'mean, I doubt it was because of that," he clarified, clearing his throat a little. "but I wouldn't give it up for the world though! Being close to what I love makes me so happy, and I love the people who come through here!"
Seeing someone gush about something the way he was was almost adorable. Most people you've met absolutely HATE their jobs, so seeing someone so invested was almost...refreshing? Even if it wasn't something you were passionate about, It made you happy seeing someone so invested.
Running his thumb over the earrings, he then snapped himself out of his own trance
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hold you up so long! Here, I'll check you out over here!"
Walking over to the counter, a familiar beep summoned the total onto the screen.
"You know, I'd actually be interested in learning about Egyptian facts."
This response from you made Steven's face beam
"Really?"
"I mean yeah. I've never met someone so invested about this stuff in person. Plus I want to go to Egypt one day-" a lie. "So maybe, you could...teach me?"
Growing a grin from ear to ear, he excitedly shook his head in agreement.
"Yeahyeah!! I-I would love that actually! I've never met someone ACTUALLY interested in learning about it, it would be such an honor!"
"Sweet! When are you usually here?"
"Oh, all the time!"
"You work...every day?"
"Oh-well-not really! I have one day usually, but it goes by so fast I can barely remember those days, so it feels like I'm here every day, haha!"
That was a really weird response, but you decide to push that worry to the side. Fuck, maybe he was just scared that his boss was around and didn't want to get fired for "gossiping" about his job.
"Well ok then! I'll come by tomorrow then. Oh, what kinda coffee do you like?"
The response took Steven back as he furiously shook his head
"Ohnono, you don't have to! I really don't need a coffee-"
"Nonsense! You're here all the time! There has to be something you like!"
He pondered the question hard.
"Well...I really enjoy a good chai latte?"
"Perfect, a Chai latte will greet you first thing tomorrow then!"
As soon as you said that, the group of kids you had walked in with began walking to the busses
"Oh shit. I gotta bounce. But hey! I'm free tomorrow, so I'll see you then!"
Steven nodded as you put the earrings in your pocket, waving you goodbye before he got startled from being yelled by his boss from the back room.
.
.
What made you think this was a good idea?! You DON'T like Egypt, why would you agree to that! This was stupid, YOU are stupid!
Deep down, you knew the reason why you even decided to interact with the man. But you felt...guilty? Did he look like your old crush? Yes. Did he bring back all those old memories you thought you buried in the depths of your brain? Also yes.
But he was 100% different, you were certain. He was timid, shy, but also would not stop talking about something he was passionate about. He was never like that, for as long as you knew him.
Walking back to your apartment, you clicked on the old vintage lamp in the corner of your room, sighing before flopping onto your couch. On the coffee table, a small picture lay upside down, the back reading:
Spector and(L/N). Circa 2010
Always together, never apart
Maybe in distance, but never in heart.
"Ugh, forgot to put that cheesy shit away..."
Shoving the old picture into the side table drawer, you turned on the tv and poured yourself a strong drink.
"Things have to change, and me along with it. I can't keep being stuck like this."
You glanced at the earrings you had placed down.
"...maybe this will be for the better?"
if the killjoys went to a fuck-off massive science museum with all sorts of fields of science and some interactive exhibit stuff on a school field trip what do you think they would get up to
there’s like archaeology stuff, geology, biology, a fucking hurricane simulator, uhhh physics i think, and it’s all geared toward teenagers
(yes i’m talking about a real place but go wild with what u think is there because i haven’t been in years they probably changed stuff)
(basing this off the science center i went to in elementary school)
- yk those sand tables that have like. fake dinosaur bones and shit in them so you can act like ur doing an archaeological dig?? yeah ghoul starts eating the sand if only bc he made a joke abt doing it and someone said he wouldn't so obviously he had to prove them wrong
- ghoul and kobra climb up of various structures and try and one up each other with increasing height/difficulty. it starts off with smaller shit like scaling up columns or getting to the top of the entrance signs to themed areas, and escalates to the point where ones trying to climb a dinosaur while the other's trying to make their way up to the rafters on the celing
- similarly, the four have a contest amongst themselves to see who can steal the most wild shit and bring it back to the school without getting caught. and im talking abt BIG shit here like, poison steals the age limit sign from the kid's play area, ghoul shoves one of those plasma ball thingies into his backpack, theres a display of different animals that jet yoinks a fake parrot from, shit like that yk?
- also i just realized you said theres geology shit. ghoul tries to eat soooo many rocks- oh and his pockets would be absolutely fucking FILLED with those colorful little rocks from the gift shop after they leave
- so in my brain jet's a HUGE space nerd right? and EVERYONE knows this abt her. so if theres a section of this museum on space travel or the stars or some shit, she would loudly "um, actually!" the teacher/tour guide/whatever on every. single. fact. said. the kicker is that she is lying through her fucking teeth, just absolutely making everything up despite knowing real facts. and it pisses the guide off SO MUCH bc everyone else either believes her or acts like they believe her bc "duh its literally THE space guy talking clearly they know more than you mr tour guide"
- hurricane simulator: they crank it up to the highest setting, kobra fucking with it to try and get it to go *higher*, maybe one goes in while the others shake it from the outside to make it "more extreme". they are all extremely obnoxious yelling and screaming and acting like theres a real hurricane and "OH GOD EVERYONE- SAFE YOURSELVES THERES SO SURVIVALLLLL"
- oh my god wait and theyd all get shitty little experiment kits and shit from the gift shop so that the bus ride back to school is just. complete and utter chaos
aaaaaand thats all i can think of right now :P
Chapter 7
Previous ~ Next
Capone held you bridal style and then Larry said, "Oh man. I got three hours till sunrise. I got to get you guys back".
"In case you forgot, Gigantor, they don't want us there anymore" said Jedediah.
"Who's they" you asked weakly. Larry looked at you and said, "The museum of natural history. I'm the night guard there-"
"I know where that it is. It's a few blocks from my place".
"Your a little bit far from home. What were you doing here in the first place"?
"A field trip". Larry looked at you with a questioning look but dismissed it and said, "I'll give you a lift home".
"But what about Capone and my friends. Can't they come with us"? Larry was about to say no but then realized that there were three empty exhibits in the museum. They were pretty big and each one could fit Ivan with his Strellsty, Napoleon with his soliders and Al Capone with his thugs. The backgrounds for each one would take some time but it would work. But larry had to remember that you can't just bring in new exhibits at a museum and say it's new. Even though there's space available, they can't just come in.
But...
They can go into storage until they are properly ready. "Well... I guess, but they would have to go into storage until further notice". Capone and the others smiled knowing they were going to a better place. "Hey" Larry said as he looked to the red headed woman, "Do you think you could hook us up with a ride"?
"My pleasure, of course" she said smiling.
"Hold on, there's one more thing I gotta take care. You guys follow Amelia and wait for me. I'll be back in a little bit" Larry said as he left. Amelia then started to lead all of you outside to go to a different part of the museum, the air and space museum. She had to dock her plane outside and would await for Larry. While she was getting to the right spot so that way she could have enough of a runway to take off, Capone refused to put you down because when he did put you down, you had sharp pains shooting through your leg.
His arms started to get a bit sore but he refused to let go. Napoleon and Ivan offered to hold you to give his arms a break but he refused instantly. He felt like it was his calling. His job. Capone and Napoleon and Ivan were just happy that you were ok. Larry finally came back and everyone piled in. There was surprisingly enough room for everyone since the plane was a bit small. Capone sat down and sat you down next to him carefully. "Hows your leg, kid" asked one of Capones gang members.
"It hurts" you said plainly.
"It'll heal itself, no problem. I'm just glad you're ok. I would've kill that son of a b-"
Ivan smacked Capone on the head to stop him from saying the next word. It was a bit hilarious to witness. There were others that got on the plane and they were still remarkably able to fit inside the plane. The plane started and soon was off the ground to head home. You weren't sure how long it would be until you would get home but the only thing you were hoping for was to see your mom again. When you told Capone that you would need help getting home, Larry offered to drive you. Capone would've had no problem taking you home himself but Larry told him the rules of being out late.
Which were he, and the others, couldn't be anywhere outside the museum when the sun rises and that they would turn to dust. After a long wait of flying back to home, everyone hopped out of the helicopter. Capone still had you in his arms, worried about your legs. "Well, your back where you belong" said the woman who was Amelia Earhart. This day was definitely the most strangest day ever. Larry approached Amelia and said, "Yeah. I think so".
The two of them stared at them then Larry broke the silence. "Hey, Amelia. That thing I was trying to tell you earlier... *sigh*... There's not really an easy way to say this but... In the morning-"
"I know whats coming Mr. Daley. I've always known. But it doesn't matter. You've given me the adventure of a lifetime in one night. And I have a feeling it's going to be a beautiful sunrise". The two then embraced and kissed which you then quietly said, "I was waiting for that to happen". Capone chuckled softly and then Amelia got back into her plane. With one more wave, she flew off. "Here, I'll take you home. How far away do you live" Larry asked.
"Three blocks from here". Larry understood and when he tried to take you from Capones arms, he tightened his grip a little but had to relax and allowed Larry to take you. Larry set you down but you hissed in pain since the pain in your legs was still there. He held your hand and helped you limp towards his car. Once inside, he told you to wait for a moment. "Ok. You guys, go inside and head to the basement. Someone inside can guide you there".
They understood and headed inside but Capone looked back and saw you waving at him. He smiled and waved back as Larry got inside the car to drive off. As Larry drove, you pointed out the directions and some came to realize that your apartment complex had three police cars. "Yep. That's the place". Larry pulled the car over and flagged down one of the officers, who wasn't happy. "Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave"-
"But I have (Y/n). I brought her home". The police officer looked at the passenger side and saw you looking at him. He was about to place handcuffs on Larry but you stopped him from doing that by saying that he and other people rescued you. The officer took the handcuffs off and opened the door for you but you mentioned that it was a bit hard to move because of some pain in your legs. He called the paramedics and said to tell the other officers to tell your mother that you were home.
A minute went by and the face of relief and happiness was shown on your mother. "(Y/n)"!?
"Mom"!?
Your mother ran over and scooped you up in her loving embrace. She was crying tears of joy and was squeezing you so hard that you could barely breathe. She eventually let go and checked you over to make sure you were ok, but she saw the bandages and dried up blood. "Who did this"!?
"Uhhhhh-"
"Its a long story" Larry said.
"He and someone else saved me. I want you to meet him... Tomorrow". Your mom looked at Larry to which he nodded to prove that your story was true. "You can come meet him tomorrow night. He works with me at the museum".
"The Smithsonian"?
"No no, the uhh, the museum of natural history". Your mom looked at you and you gave her the look plea since she deserves to meet the man who saved your life.
"Ok, I'll see you tomorrow".
Twice In a Blue Moon (Chapter 5)
A/N: This took forever but I didn’t want to rush and force something. Hope y’all like it!
••••
“Can you go in? Riley needs help carrying her project and I’m trying to finish my homework.”
Marty turns his head to look at Harper, brow furrowed but she’s too engrossed in the paper in her lap to notice. He’s not buying it but he doesn’t say anything instead opting for a welcomed visit with his ladybird.
Kensi answers the door and his jaw hits the floor. She’s wearing a power suit. A beautiful teal suit that contrasts perfectly against her skin and it suddenly becomes clear to him why Harper couldn’t help Riley with her project. And once again he’s so grateful for their meddling. Thank you, girls.
“You have a little bit of drool right there.” She reaches forward without thought, wiping the corner of his lip.
“I-I’m supposed to be getting a project.”
“Yeah, it’s right over here.”
He steps in getting a scent of her lavender perfume. Oh, shit.
“Thanks for helping out. I completely forgot this had to be at school this morning and I have this meeting with my publishers and my new book’s not finished yet and-“
Her eyes go wide in surprise as she’s suddenly pressed against the wall and his lips are on hers, but soon run out of air and have to pull back, not moving from their position. “Everything’s gonna be fine. It’s gonna be good. You’re Badass Blye.”
“Thank you.” She smiles and then eyes him suspiciously seeing the smirk on his face. “What?”
He shakes his head and bends forward, nuzzling her neck. “You smell amazing.”
She closes her eyes enjoying the touch of his lips against her skin as they travel up her neck. “What about you? You ready for today?”
“100 6th graders with 500 other 6th graders from around the county running around a museum.” He makes a pst noise. “Easy peasy.”
She laughs and brings her lips to his once more.
••••
As Marty gets back into the Jeep something suddenly strikes him. His eyes meet his girl’s in the rearview mirror who is miraculously done with her homework now.“Didn’t you say you finished that assignment last week?”
“Yeah, but I was just checking my work.”
“The exact moment we got to Kens’ house?”
“Oh, Kens is it?” Harper wiggles her eyebrows suggestively.
A small blush begins to creep up his cheeks, damn these kids. Before he can say anything else the passenger-side back door opens and Riley hops in with a knowing grin, which is when he realizes the window is rolled down.
“He was totally drooling.” The young brunette says just loud enough for Marty to hear making his blush form into an even deeper shade of red.
••••
When he told Kensi this field trip would be easy he had somehow forgotten how truly cutthroat the pre-teens of the greater Chicago area could be.
He’s currently giving a stern talking to a kid that thought it’d be hilarious to put googly eyes on an Abe Lincoln bust when a blood-curdling shriek sends his blood running cold.
“Daddy!”
Marty’s eyes go wide in panic as Harper’s screeching voice fills the large rotunda. Spinning around distraught, he looks for her and finally spots her frantically examining Riley. “What’s wrong?!”
“Riley.”
He runs over to the girls, kneeling in front of Riley, his hands instinctively finding hers. Trying to keep her calm as much as he is himself, he keeps his eyes locked with hers while communicating with Harper. “What happened?”
“I don’t know. She just ate some trail mix and now sh-she can’t breathe…”
The ingredients of the snack flash through his mind and he quickly turns to the boy standing nearby. The young boy’s eyes are filled with panic much like his own but unlike his, tears are beginning to pool in this random 12 year-olds. “Are there peanuts in that?”
“Y-yeah.” The tween answers nervously looking from the baggie in his hands back towards the principal.
Calm…he has to remain calm. Thinking back to the first time he heard Kensi talk about the allergy, the solution is right here. “Harper, where’s her bag?”
“She left it on the bus…” Panic fills the raven-haired tween’s voice once again as she watches her best friend collapse into her dad. “What are we gonna do?”
The bus that won’t be back until 3. Without thought, he picks Riley up, cradles her in his arms, and turns to one of his teachers. “Watch the kids, I gotta get her to the hospital.”
She nods, ushering their students away from the area as Marty runs out with Riley in his arms and Harper trailing not far behind.
Once they step out into the sunlight, he lets out a growl. “Fucking Chicago traffic.” He looks both ways and thinks about where the nearest hospital is. “Harper, I need you to stay here, I’m gonna have to run.”
“No, I’m going with you.”
“Harper.”
“I’m going.”
At that moment he couldn’t be more proud of his girl for standing her ground and it’s suddenly lost when Riley starts taking a larger gasp of breath. “We gotta fucking book it.”
A fierce protectiveness crosses her face preparing herself for the sprint of her life. “Let's go.”
••••
“WHERE IS SHE?” All sense of decorum has left Kensi’s body as she runs to the nurse’s station in the ER. As soon as she got the call from Marty, she left her meeting and hightailed it to the hospital.
To say the panic that’s been coursing through her veins since she heard the words, “I’m at the ER with Riley,” is new to her…that would be a lie. She’s always worried about her even more so with their history at the ER.
“Mrs. Blye.”
The tall brunette spins at the sound of her name being called and is met with a distraught Harper whose tear-stained eyes makes her fear the worse. “Harper, where is she?”
“Over here.”
“Where’s your dad?”
“He’s sitting with her. Hasn’t left her side.”
At the words, a sense of gratefulness replaces her panic but it quickly shifts to rage as she walks past the sectioned-off area of the ER room where Riley is and sees her limp body fast asleep on the bed. She places a kiss on her head and turns to Marty, trying her best to keep the tears at bay. “How could you let this happen?”
“I-“
She doesn’t let him get a word out edgewise. All she’s seeing right now is red and the person responsible for this whole situation. “You were supposed to be watching her.”
“There are other kids I have to watch, too.”
“I want you to leave.” She wants to take back the words as soon as they leave her mouth. Really she wants him to hold her and tell her everything will be okay, but again the pent-up anger she’s been holding onto for so long wins out.
“Kens.”
“Go.”
Sighing in defeat Marty and Harper walk out of the sectioned area and through the sliding doors. Kensi doesn’t dare watch them leave and begins to pace back and forth, running her fingers through her hair all the while trying to figure out what the hell just happened.
“Why’d you do that?”
Riley’s raspy voice draws her back to the present and she looks up, meeting her baby girl’s tired eyes. “Because I could’ve lost you.”
“But mom…”
“No, but moms. He should’ve been watching you. He’s the principal.”
“He was watching us but some other kids were messing with an exhibit. We’re 12 years old he shouldn’t have to have a leash on us.”
“So how’d you get the peanuts and where was your bag?”
“This kid from another school offered us some of his trail mix. I didn’t think to ask about peanuts. I wasn’t thinking.”
“It’s not your fault.”
“It’s not Mr. Deeks’ fault either. As soon as Harper called him over he didn’t take his eyes off me. He asked what happened, where my Epipen was and when she told him I forgot it on the bus he picked me up and sprinted with me 4 blocks to the hospital.”
As the words hit her ears, her throat beings to constrict. Of course, he did. It’s Marty. “He-he did?”
“Yes, I’m alive because of him.” She nods, then a knowing smile curls at the corner of her lips. “You know, mom, he’s a great catch and I know for a fact he’s single.”
Shaking her head, she can’t fight the smile of her daughter and her antics. “So now you’re playing love connection?”
“I’m just saying.” The younger brunette shrugs.
A few minutes later as Riley’s getting her things together, Kensi takes out her phone seeing 2 messages from Marty saying he hopes she’s feeling better and asking if Harper can facetime Riley later when they get home.
Kensi: Hey, do you think you could bring Harper by the house? Riley wants to see her and she really needs to stay in bed for a while.
Marty: Sure. Does 6 work?
Kensi: Yes. Thank you, Marty.
••••
Like clockwork, the clock strikes 6 and there’s a knock. She feels herself running towards the front door, but suddenly has to reel herself back. Her hand finds its way to her chest trying to calm her racing heart, it does nothing to stop the panic attack that she knows is about to engulf her…and then there’s another knock.
She knows if she doesn’t answer Marty will worry and barge his way in, which means if she doesn’t move now, he’ll see her like this and she can’t let that happen…not yet.
Taking a deep calming breath, trying her best to school her features, the brunette pulls open her front door and is immediately met with the most piercing blue eyes that she’s ever seen. His eyes.
She’s memorized every emotion that’s been written in them, the hurt and anguish looking back at her now…she’s only been on the receiving end of 4 times, their first big fight, when they broke up all those years ago, at the hospital, and now.
Shaking herself out of her trance, Kensi’s eyes find Harper’s who’s nervously biting her bottom lip. “Riley’s in her room if you want to go up.”
Without being told twice, the raven-haired tween zooms through the door past the brunette and races up the stairs leaving her dad and best friend’s mom alone.
Words seem inadequate as their eyes dance back and forth between each other. She knows she needs to be the first to say something…anything.
“How is she?”
“She’s doing better…but I’m not.”
Panic suddenly fills his eyes as he closes the distance between them, and wraps her hands in his. Probably the same way he reacted to Riley earlier today.
“Can we talk please?”
He looks like he’s about to say no, it’s on the tip of his tongue. Then he remembers the last fight they had…the one that ended their passionate college love affair. The one that ended them. They both just walked away last time. Here she is trying to fight for them now and then the desperate plea leaves her lips and his heart almost shatters.
“Please, Marty?”
Relief floods through her body as he intertwines his fingers with hers and pulls her into the house, shutting the door behind them.
For a few minutes, they just stand there in the middle of the living room. Marty doesn’t try to rush her, it’s clear she’s working through some things and he has to trust that she’ll tell him when she’s ready.
The understanding in his eyes…the way he reads her like an open book like only he can, it’s just the push she needs. Grabbing his other hand, she locks her fingers with his. Her mismatched orbs lock with his cerulean blues trying to convey as best she can the words that are about to leave her lips. “I’m sorry about how I reacted today. There’s no excuse for me blaming you…I just got transported to the past when this would happen with her dad.”
“Would happen as in more than once?”
She nods her head. “Before I got my book deal I didn’t have the means to fight for full custody so half of the time Riley was with her dad but he never paid much attention to her. He’d let her eat anything and take her to a restaurant, not to mention her allergy…then she’d end up in the ER. He’d buy groceries with peanut ingredients and not hide them, she’d end up in the ER.”
“Son of a bitch.”
“That’s putting it mildly.”
She finally allows herself to break and lets out a shaky breath along with a stream of tears. “I’m just really sorry.”
He can’t hold back any longer. Using momentum, Marty pulls her towards him, crashing their bodies together as his arms find their way around her, cradling her head in the crook of his neck. “Shhh. It’s okay. I’ve got you. Just let it out.”
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“Taking care of my girl and for being here with me.”
“Always.”
“And thank you for running 4 blocks with my daughter in your arms. I know how much you hate to run.”
“I’d do anything for you just like I’d do anything for our girls.”
“Our girls. I like the sound of that.”
“Me, too.”
“Do you have any idea how much I love you right now?”
“I think I have a pretty good idea, but you could always show me to be sure.” A smile spreads to his face as she closes the distance between them.
Their lips lock all but 5 seconds before the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs forces them to quickly break apart.
Marty directs his eyes towards the ceiling as if he’s appreciating the crown molding work and Kensi…well, she chooses to grab a picture frame on a nearby shelf to examine.
“What are you two doing?” Harper pauses halfway down the steps, eyeing the pair suspiciously, not even buying the lies they’re about to start spewing.
“Just talking.” The blonde’s voice is a little shakier than he would like when he finally turns his attention toward the tween.
“Sure you were.”
The brunette sits the picture down, trying to fight the smile on her face before putting her mom face on and meeting her daughter’s best friend’s eyes. “What was that?”
“Oh, nothing.” She starts humming, slowly continuing her walk down the stairs as if she knows something they don’t.
“Ready to go, kiddo?”
“Yeah, Riley fell asleep.”
“Okay, well I guess we’ll see you guys at the game Sunday.” Marty sends Kensi a smile, backing towards the front door following the footsteps of his daughter.
“Wait, Harper.”
The little girl turns around and stops as Kensi comes up to her and wraps her in a hug. A real mom hug, the first she’s ever had and it breaks her. Burying her face into the brunette’s chest, Harper’s arms find their way around the older woman’s waist, clinging onto her for dear life.
“Thank you for looking out for Riley.” As the words leave her lips, the little girl tightens her grip around her waist, and that’s when she feels the tears seep through her shirt, breaking her heart.
“I was so scared. Besides my dad, she’s all I have.”
Placing a kiss on the top of her head, Kensi pulls back, her thumbs finding Harper’s cheeks, and wipes the remaining tears away. “I tell you what. If it’s alright with your dad, how about you spend the whole weekend here?”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
Harper turns towards her dad, hazel eyes filled with hopeful excitement. “Can I?”
“I’ll go get your stuff.”
“Thanks, Mrs. Blye.” She gives her one more squeeze before disentangling from the older woman and racing back up the stairs.
“Harper?”
“Yes, ma’am?” The raven-haired tween stops mid-step, turning back, meeting the tall brunette’s eyes.
“If you want, you have me, too.”
Before her head can even process what she’s doing, Harper’s feet have her racing back down the stairs, crashing into Kensi’s body, trapping her into the fiercest hug her tiny body can muster. “Thank you.”
As he watches the interaction between his two favorite people, Marty realizes now more than ever before that Kensi Blye is the absolute love of his life. She’s the one and always will be.
A few seconds later Harper’s running back upstairs and Marty doesn’t have the willpower to hold back any longer. Closing the distance between them, his hand finds her jaw, thumb rubbing back and forth across her delicate skin, trying to memorize every inch. “Thank you. You have no idea what that means to her…or me.”
“She was hurting, too. I didn’t really stop to think about that until just now. And you…”
“What about me?”
“You were hurting.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever been more scared in my life except when we lost each other all those years ago.”
Shaking her head, the tears begin to pool in her eyes. “You don’t know how much that means to me to hear you say that.”
“I love you, Kens. Riley’s a part of you and I love her, too.”
Leaning in, she presses a kiss to his lips. “I love you.”
He melts into their kiss and relishes the moment before pulling back and resting his forehead against hers. “Now as much as I don’t want to, I better go before Harper comes back down. I also forgot that I had a few dates lined up for tonight and I can’t miss those.”
Biting her lips, she pinches his bicep, earning her a wince. “You better be joking.”
A smirk plays on his lips before he gives her one last kiss. “You still gonna leave the key under the mat for me?”
“Your side of the bed will be waiting for you as always.”
Phoebe always thought her contempt for museums was just due to her mother’s disinterest, dragging her through them when they were younger, saving Phoebe the trouble of going on field trips when they could have movie days or shopping trips, which were much more fun than boring museums to a little kid. But maybe her brain was just not wired enough to appreciate them the way everyone else did. She had gone to the science museum in hopes of maybe seeing if there was any job postings, though was quietly relieved when there wasn’t, just taking in the weirdness of not being alone but the space being quiet. She had been sat cross-legged at the exhibit of the solar system, hypnotized by the rotating orbs represent the planets for who knew how long, tensing when she sensed a presence behind her. “I’m not in the way and there’s nothing against the policy about staying at the displays for certain amounts of time!” She argued, turning back, her face softening at the woman there, and not the security guard she had encountered earlier. “Oh sorry, I thought you were the security. They hate me because they think I’m like, committing a heist but I just think it’s ridiculous there’s someone ‘round here thinking I’m trying to like…steal Jupiter.” She explained, as the aforementioned planet made its journey orbiting around the room. “At least Pluto is still a planet here.”
