major hornets nest moment here but i must speak my truth. its so fascinating to me how will byers was clearly written with the driving motivation and intention of making him a beloved fan favorite character and instead he falls so flat that, if you asked the average casual viewer of the show who doesn't engage in the fandom like, say, your coworker, the odds of him even being in their top five of favorite characters is pretty low.
will's disappearance kicks off the plot, singlehandedly. the first episode is literally called the vanishing of will byers. his name is shouted so much in the first season that most people would recognize the reference if you used the right cadence and desperation that winona ryder does. after not being featured much in season one, you'd think season two would've just like launched will/noah schnapp into stardom with how much more screentime he's given and how dramatic his plot is that season. but instead the fan favorites of season 2 were by and large el, hopper, dustin, steve, max, even bob who's barely there. that's not to say that there AREN'T will fans out there (and online i understand there are like entire armies dedicated to him/byler, but i'm talking about the average opinion of viewers as a whole, not just in fandom spaces) but think about all the stranger things merch you see in stores, the halloween costumes, the characters that appear in promotional materials when the show has partnerships with brands....will is so rarely featured. idk if any of yall ever got the chance to visit the stranger things pop up shop in any of its various locations, but there was such little mention of will in the stores theming or merchandise that it was almost funny. actually it WAS funny, to me, someone who does not care for him
i think the flop can be attributed to many things. one, noah schnapp is just not a very good actor and he doesn't have the same appeal in his performances that millie, sadie, caleb, gaten, priah, or finn do (although finn i've noticed is also kinda falling out of favor from majority audiences). one could argue that noah schnapp intentionally isn't given much to do, which is true and i'll circle back to that, but the decline in his acting between seasons 2 and 3 is truly a sight to behold. when he's not like tied up and screaming, he reallllllly struggles on the smaller scale performances compared to the other cast members his age. he doesn't really have the charm that gaten does or the humor that priah does or the depth that caleb does. (i don’t feel bad about saying this, btw, given noah schnapp’s behavior)
back to the vanishing of will byer's screen time. my beloved prettymuchit's eric striffler commented on how diminished will and mike's roles in the story have become in s4. "noah schnapp is below the grips on the call sheet" is my fav line, but he also makes an observation on finn's role that i think is soooo accurate. when mike and will are kneeling down next to the pizza dough freezer and watching el just kinda twitch while she fights vecna in her mind, eric and his co-host miles say "this is so embarrassing! finn's like, 'oh so gaten's fighting the monster? and i'm kneeling next to a tub at a pizza place? i used to be this show" and i think the same exact sentiment can be superimposed onto will
but i think this happened naturally, as the nature of the show is to shift its focus from character to character. not to mention the duffer brothers' obsession with tweaking their story to give audiences what they want. i've always held the belief that there isn't one main character of stranger things, rather a rotating circle of characters depending on the season you're watching. season one is mike, season two is hopper, season three is el, season four is max imo. again that's a little subjective and arguments could be made to swap those a little, but overall i think those characters stories and point of views take center stage during each of their respective seasons. by season 3, the duffers wanted to kick things up to a larger scale. the UD is no longer targeting just will, it's targeting the entire town. this works because a THIRD season in a row where this one kid specifically gets possessed would just be bonkers, so they kinda had to let him take a backseat. i'm not sure why they didn't let will be more involved in the mystery-solving portion of season 3....to this day that decision baffles me, but what's done is done and the will that everyone watched in season 3 literally just kinda follows everyone around and gets a small little slice of a plotline about wanting things to go back to normal, but alas
it like totally worked, though. though there are MANY complaints commonly made about season 3, i've never heard anyone offline complain that there wasn't enough will byers. i think the group in s3 that had the most success like, commercially, would be scoops troop and then a bit farther back i think most audiences enjoyed hopper/joyce/murray's dynamic. i think if there had been a huge outcry in the minimizing of will's role, the duffers would've backpedaled immediately. they aim to please. they can't even commit to killing of a main character out of fear that audiences will lose interest if we permanently lose hopper or max, so they just do some creative writing that allows them to milk the emotional consequence of those characters deaths without actually writing them off. if audiences on a large scale demanded that will be center stage, he would be. but they dont!
final point: i think will gets fucked over by the duffers obsession with romance. in season one, two of will's strongest dynamics are with his mom and brother. which like, yeah. theyre his immediately family and he is 12. but in seasons 2 and 3, jonathan spent all his screen time with nancy and from 2-4, joyce has spent all her screen time either with hopper or in the pursuit of finding hopper. these characters are written together as a package deal, typically. it was refreshing and unexpected to see jonathan get a whole season with a friend of his very own and his siblings, but they barely took advantage of that. jonathan and will get ummmm one (1) scene to talk about their emotions in a fucking 20 hour season. it's hard for will to be a main character when he rarely gets to interact with the people that make up the other half of his main dynamics.
as for byler, im of the belief that it will not be endgame because i just don't think they're going to break up mike and el at this point. i could be completely wrong and stand corrected, but im like 90% sure lol. i do think that will's s4 storyline resonated with a lot of people. even eric striffler! i think the issue is that the vastttt majority of people who watch this show above the age of like 15 do not feel invested about the romantic relationships between any of the kids. because why would they!!! theyre literally in middle school for 3/4 of the show. you would be hard pressed to find a vocal will stan online who doesn't also dedicate 90% of their engagement with the show to byler. which makes sense, because most if not all of will's scenes revolve around mike to some degree. but according to neilsen, the majority of stranger things audience is consistently in the 18-49 age range season by season. its more likely for adult audiences to identify with adults (or characters who are narratively treated like adults, like steve and nancy) than with any of the kids. esp when the kid in question, despite being written as the focal point of the show, has less relevant plotlines, less interaction with other characters, and an actor who just doesn't deliver on charm the way his fellow younger costars do

physical affection and how it relates to iruma: part 1, parental touch
Tumblr media
iruma reads as someone who is touch starved and doesn't like/understand touch until he now has affectionate people in his life. His parents have probably never touched him besides the required amount when he was a baby and maybe a headpat or quick hug (which would more than likely just be a manipulation tactic to get him to do their crazy schemes). They left him alone for days on end, there's no way they even could have been affectionate with him. And it's not like he ever went to school, his "friends" at school couldn't even remember him because of how many days he missed.
Overall, Iruma reads as touch starved but doesn't know he's missing it since he never had it to begin with. Here comes the love trio, the misfit class, Balam and more. Suddenly he has a lot of people in his life who are comfortable with touching him, even want to as a sign of how close they are. And we can see iruma very much becomes happy with it in turn.
That's why Balam and iruma's relationship is important, a parental type person he trusts is actively choosing to be affectionate with him, not to manipulate him but just because he cares about iruma. He even told him the reason is just to bond and get to know iruma, not some sort of underhanded method. This is just Balam's way of connecting. And they are close to each other enough to be comfortable in each other's spaces. Whether Iruma reads balam as a parent or not, balam is very much like a momma bird, keeping him close and safe in his arms. And Iruma becomes more open to it as time goes on with them knowing more about the other.
This is also a great dynamic because balam gives him the affection that he doesn't recieve from kalego, someone he clearly holds in high regard. Almost every time iruma reflects on the people that matter the most to him, kalego is there. which i find fascinating because what is kalego to iruma? on a subconscious level, i think he views kalego as a parental figure to him as well, one of the first to give him clear and concise rules to follow. his parents were just a fucking mess, they barely parented. never really taught him life lessons besides "just say yes" and "run." Kalego clearly cares a lot while also helping iruma navigate the netherworld making it easy for him to project a father role onto kalego
Tumblr media
But kalego isn't an affectionate man from what we have seen. And even if he was, he is his instructor first and foremost so he may not feel comfortable being so with iruma (and also imagine the fucking annoying comments about favoritism from the other misfits LOL). Any touching has been fairly limited to him picking up Iruma like during the teacher dorm visits and Kalego's final hours as a familiar. Which honestly make these few scenes even more precious. Because he is actively choosing to be like this with Iruma. Affection does not come easy to Kalego like it does Balam. More than likely because of his upbringing and family beliefs (always needing to remain vigilant, dignified) and him as a person. So while he doesn't touch Iruma often, his one on one moments with him are extremely personal and parental in nature. And when he does interact with Iruma physically, the rarity adds to the specialness.
And then there's Opera. Opera has been especially more affectionate in the latest volumes with hand holding and hugs and all sort of touching. Which is very wholesome to see because Opera wasn't a character that had much of a strong relationship with Iruma at the beginning besides guarding him. I always got the impression that Opera didn't know how to feel about him, not to say they wouldn't protect him with everything they have. But the feelings and affection started up after the battler/batra Party when Iruma grabbed both Sullivan and Opera (though the care for him had been growing steadily before that). I have seen two main headcannons for their relationship, some see it more as a big sibling relationship while others see it as a parental one as well. For the sake of this post, I will be using it as a parent and child one.
Tumblr media
Opera has been right there with Sullivan watching Iruma grow more and more confident as time goes on. And through Iruma growing up, we see how proud of him Opera is. From a scared child to a more bold child, Opera has helped cultivate this in him. I also love that whenever Sullivan isn't around, Opera takes over for taking care of him, allowing the two to have solo family time. Obviously their relationship is more of a weird dynamic seeing as how Opera is a security devil, but that doesn't stop the story from developing their relationship. The physical affection for the two is started from both sides, Iruma hugging Opera or Opera holding out their hand to hold as they walk home. In this case, their relationship is the most parent like as the story progresses.
And finally, we have Sullivan who is the most affectionate of the four. Come on, you can't beat grandpa when it comes to love and devotion to Iruma. He is the first one to introduce Iruma to physical affection in the first place. Now granted, in a slightly overbearing way at first because Iruma is not used to this and Sullivan is too happy to have a grandson. But now, we can see the genuineness behind each of his interactions with Iruma. He very much acts like a doting grandfather, and he really does love him too. Touching clearly comes more naturally to him so it's his way of showing Iruma love which opened the doors for more people in Iruma's life to show this too. When Iruma first started touching Sullivan back at the battler/batra party, it highlighted that Iruma is now more comfortable with Sullivan to do so back. He has been taught by Sullivan this way of caring and cares about him in the same way too. There's a lot of mutual love.
Tumblr media
They have come a long way as a family unit. Sure, grandpa has always been Iruma's number one supporter, but at the beginning of the story it felt way too over the top? As the audience we were right there besides Iruma in feeling overwhelmed by Sullivan. This far into the story though, the emotional trust they have in each other is beautiful. They are no longer just two individuals thrown together by fate, they are two people who care about the other and their weird little family. And its even more wonderous when we think about Sullivan's past, having lost someone deeply close to him and has no way of knowing if he'll ever return (aka Delkira). From what we know, it seemed that Sullivan truly loved him like a son/grandson/family member and loosing him is still something he's grappling over. And yet, he was still able to create this, push through his pain to make a family with Iruma. He's not a replacement for what he lost, but somone he allows himself to care about in a similar way in the past. By pushing through the trauma, he has been able to give Iruma what he never had in his past life.
I see both Balam, Kalego, and Opera as parents who provide him with different styles of parenting (with grandpa also providing that but also being a "ill give you anything you want" guardian hehe). Through this, he can learn varied viewpoints and, more importantly to this post, the affection he never had as a child. Does it make up for never having grown up with it? No, it never could. But it's not about making up for what it lost, rather its about making new connections and love with what you have now. And displaying that love in small and bigger ways with touch.

Next chapter
a/n okay this sat in my notes for so long. I wanted to delete first, then I thought hmm... let's indulge, right? Also, please be gentle, I've never written for Javi.
summary: having a fight with someone you care about right before the mission might be the worst idea ever especially when you don't know if you'll make it out alive.
warnings: fighting, guns, past trauma, injuries, blood, mentions of death...I think that's all.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"Is Carillo in?", both males lifted their heads from their never-ending piles of documents right as you approached. Each step was laced with nothing but confidence. Only fools would stand in your way. You were nothing like the women Javi was used to. He had never seen you striding across the office in a skirt or a skimpy shirt that most secretarial women preferred here. But then you weren't a secretory ether.
"Yeah, he should be", Steve said, beating Javi to an answer and eyeing the files in your hand. Neatly put as always, followed by the colorful tabs that no one else used, and even if Javi had made fun of them in the past, it was something that constantly reminded him of you. "What's that?", Steve tried to reach for the reports, but you only slapped his hand away playfully. As if he was nothing but a curious kid, shoving his nose into something that wasn't for him. "You'll see. Meeting in five, watch", you stated before walking through Carillo's door, closing it with daring eyes and a wink.
Carillo was the one to command emergency meetings, so you calling the shots looked nothing but childish to an unknowing ear, but then, not even two minutes later, Carillo emerged from the door, "Meeting in five", his voice boomed through the office, and with the corner of his eyes, Javi could see you leaning against the table smiling to yourself.
You fascinated him. There was no other way to go around it. Back when you just joined the team, Javi did doubt you. Toxic masculinity and all that shit got him humbled real quickly alongside all the other sorry fucks who didn't know how to keep their mouths shut. There were not many females among the leading troops, but you were unbeatable. Many men were pissed beyond any mark when Carillo made you his second in command. Even Javi was pissed. Because most of the fuckers here had been here for years, some ten and counting, and it took you less than two to climb almost to the top. But then, no one was better fitted for that role, and with time passing, one thing got even clearer. The thing that pissed Pena off the most was that your position got you and Carillo way too close for Javi's liking. Not that you were his. Not that there was an us.
But you were like an illness clinging to him. Javi couldn't think clearly. Most of his brain was occupied with you. He fucked so many whores when he felt his heart starting to want to lean just to you. He had fucked them all by that time, he was sure that he liked you, but that only made him feel worse. Common Bogota whore. That's what he was. Equally as much, he sold himself both for information and because he needed someone to cling to him, even if it was for the money.
"Why an orphanage?", Steve was leaning against the table, looking down at the papers you had forbidden him to touch five minutes ago. "Would you look there?", you sassed back, making Steve shrug his shoulders in agreement as he continued to flip through all the other documents. "We don't need a full-blown mission. It would just be a check. If we find something to hold onto, we'll send more men", you continued, glancing to Carillo, needing his nods as validation now that the room was dead silent.
"Pena", Carillo called out, getting the agent's eyes to shoot up at him, "You haven't said anything". And it was true he hadn't. One thing that Javi loved was disagreeing. You two were the best at that. But he was never this silent. Regardless of whether he liked the idea or not, he would still share his thoughts, but now you got absolutely nothing.
"Send an armed force; do the thing. I don't understand why we are even discussing this", Javi carelessly threw the case with documents onto the table before crossing his arms over his chest. Your mouth thinned into a straight line. "No armed forces are walking into an orphanage. Those kids have enough trauma to last them a lifetime".
Javi scoffed, running his hand over his beard. "What do you suggest we roll up for a walk there with no guns, no nothing?", he said in an almost mocking manner as his lips curled upward. The room stayed silent. Your eyes met his, and you swallowed thickly. Something in Javi's face twisted. "You can't be serious…", he trailed off. "I'll just go and look; we only need access to the basement parts; hygiene security paper will do the job", you said firmly. The plan seemed simple enough. "You're not going to a potential hideout without a gun", Javi leaned closer to you over the table, fists starting to clench as he glared at you.
"It'll look suspicious", Carillo added, seeming so unphased by all of this and all the things that could go wrong that Javi had to pull the last string of self-control to not pinch him in the face. "Suspicious, my ass, she can be walking into a trap", Javi raised his voice as he shot daggers at the head of the national police unit.
"Since when do you care?", those words took a moment to sink in. And when Javi turned back to you, there was no resemblance to the man you saw a couple of minutes ago. They were dead empty, and there was only anger there. "Good luck dying there since you seem so eager", Javi spat out, not turning away from you because he wanted to see the way your face fell.
"Javi…", Steve muttered. Out of everyone in the office, he was the only one who truly knew just how much you cared for one another. Your eyes started to sting, but you didn't drop the stabbing gaze that Javi was hurling your way, "Don't worry, agent, no one will send you an invite to the funeral". With those words, you turn away from him. Snatching the papers from the table as you turn towards Carillo as if Javi was no longer around.
Did Javi regret his words instantly? No, but he regretted them the moment he watched you unbutton the dress you were going to wear so none other than Carillo would strap communication devices onto your body. He hated that his hands were on your body. Fingers tracing the soft, warm skin. Does Carillo know that Javi's fingers were there too? Does he know that Javi would give up everything, even his career, for the chance to feel that soft skin again on his body every morning? With a frown on his face, Javi put his cigarette out before snatching his jacket off the chair and heading out.
This seemed silly, but you had never gone on a mission with Javi upset with you, and it left a bitter taste in your mouth. Yes, you argued often. Agreeing on something with that man was a challenge, but you made it work most of the time. You would blow each other's brains out by shouting at the office, and then one would always join the other outside for a smoke or just a breath of fresh air.
You would bump Javi's shoulder, making the frown even worse, until your fingers would sneak to pull the cigarette away from his lips so you could take a drag yourself. You would rarely talk. Both stubborn and aware that it would most definitely lead to more fighting. So silence it was. You would lean on Javi's shoulder, and he would never miss an opportunity to bring you closer to him.
The embraces at times felt so intimate that fighting back tears was a challenge. But the smell of Javi's aftershave and the smoke lingering there brought you unimaginable levels of comfort. The same comfort that you felt laying in his bed, tangled in his sheets. It had only happened a couple of times, but those couple of times were enough to make you addicted. Because the Javi at the office was nothing like the Javi you got to see behind closed doors. And it wasn't because he fucked good. No, that anyone could tell. It was because his touch did linger, and behind the wall that he had built for protection was the man who was so capable of love - he had just forgotten it.
"How could I help you, ma'am?", a voice asked, bringing you out of the trance and causing you to flinch slightly. You needed to put your head in check. This. You couldn't allow yourself to think about this while doing your job. "Hygiene check", you said, unfolding the paper and showing it to the elderly lady. She looked you up and down. "Since when are they no longer sending creepy old men?", she asked you sarcastically, and you couldn't help but chuckle. "Since I told them that it's inappropriate, especially around the kids". The woman nodded her head, dropping the paper on the front desk before reaching for the keys. "I'll walk you through the upper floors; the basement is easy to navigate on your own", she stated, moving to walk in front of you.
"Ask her about the size of the lower levels", Carillo's voice rang in your ear, and you flinched again. God, what was going on today? How can you forget that you had a communication set on, with microphones and all? They could hear your surroundings just as much. Focus, you told yourself once more. "A small basement for such a place—surely that's an issue?", you asked her, bringing the fake criteria papers to your chest and reaching for the pen so you could pretend to mark stuff.
"We don't need it. Things like fresh food and other products come in almost daily", she stated. "You have a company you work with?", you asked, looking at the pictures that covered all of the hallways. "Yes, I can give you the information, and the truck that delivered today's packages is still downstairs", she said, yet her voice slowly died down as your eyes fell on the kids playing in the colorfully painted rooms. The big windows allowed you to take a full look at them.
"Why is he alone?", the lady twisted to look back, stopping mid-sentence about the new vegetable stock, catching and following your gaze, now focused on the boy, seated in the furthest corner of the room. Knees up to his chest as he scarcely looked at the other kids. The lady sighed, "He got here not long ago. Hard to adapt. Both of his parents died, as did his sister. He's alone", bile rose in your throat as you swallowed thickly. Suddenly, you wish you had somewhere to lean on.
Javi's muscles tensed as those words rang through the car they all sat in. Carillo was about to speak into the headset, but Javi snatched it out of his hands. He doubted that Carillo knew. Maybe. He would like to believe that no one else did it besides him. That you had only trusted Javi with the story from your past that night. That you had cried because you hadn't told anyone else beforehand, and reliving it was too painful. Javi waited some more, pointing a warning finger at Carillo, who was cursing Javi in Spanish. Javi wanted to give you a moment to try and pull yourself out on your own. You were a big girl, and he knew that you could handle yourself. But everyone had their demons who possessed them at times; this just happened to be yours. Yet another reason why Javi didn't approve of this in the first place.
"You're in Bogota, not back in D.C., carino", Javi's voice filled your ears, and you had to blink a couple of times, feeling the shiver run down your back. Shiver that was followed by a wave of warmth, because if you could hear him, it meant that he came along after all. "Is he looked after?", the question seemed stupid, but you just had to know, even if it had nothing to do with why you were here, "All kids are looked after here, ma'am".
Javi cursed under his breath. You were slipping, and he could feel it. This was just too convenient. Too out of the blue. This had to be set up. To throw you off the hook so they could take you out. Javi could just feel it, and the worry only grew stronger. "Y/N, if you don't feel well, back down", Javi said again. His voice was firm. It was an order, and you knew that it was the correct one as well, but… "I'll look through the basement today", you said softly as you turned to the old lady. "Of course", she said with a nod, rushing to give you the keys.
"Y/n", Javi spoke again as a warning, but you didn't say anything. You closed your eyes for a moment to collect yourself, right as the lady showed you to the back door. Javi moved to get up instead once the line fell silent, but Carillo stopped him with a firm hand on his shoulder, "You don't have the order to interfere". That made Javi's blood boil, "You, out of all people, should feel that she's not in the right mindset to be there", Carillo said nothing, only locking the car doors, his eyes now fully fixed on Javi.
The hour you spent inside there was a nightmare. You took a couple of pictures. Sneaked in some papers that seemed off. Now all you needed to do was walk out of the building, and then it would all be over. A breath that Javi didn't know he was holding slipped past his lips as he watched you walk out of the building, turning back to wave to the elderly lady before you moved closer to the street that separated you from the rest of the team. Even from back there, Javi could tell that your eyes looked hazy. A new worry sparked. What if you misread the speed of the car? What if you get hit? Javi reached for the door handle, his eyes not leaving you for a moment.
You looked around a couple more times before stepping forward; your eyes met Javi's desperate ones. And even if he knew that you were beyond pissed at him, you still shot him a slight smile. A little something that would keep his nerves at bay for now. Until you crossed the street and Javi could once again sense your perfume lingering in the car.
And then a blink of an eye changes everything. A bullet suddenly pierces your shoulder, sending you staggering back onto the street. It feels like the world had stopped as Javi watched the red stain get bigger and bigger. "Get down", Carillo shouted at the top of his lungs, making a handful of men drop to their knees, but Javi didn't move. He pushed off the car and rushed forward, "Pena, that's an order", but he was done with following orders for today. Another shot rang out. This time it sounded a lot stronger, and you suddenly gripped your lower stomach. That made Javi lose all sense; he took off running, and suddenly the distance seemed way too long. Pushing panicked people to the side as he scratches his way to you.
You didn't register the first bullet; it was like your mind blanked, and only the feeling of something wet dripping down your shoulder made you frown at the situation. It's the second bullet that pierced your left side that made you let out a scream. One that kept ringing in your ears. You could see people moving, but no one was stopping to look at you. Your mind was running so fast yet so slowly at the same time. Blinking started to get harder, your breaths were painful and shallow now.
"Carino", you heard before you could even see the face, and for a second, it felt like you were imagining it all. "Keep your eyes open", said Javi, who was now leaning over you, palm cradling your cheek as he pats it a couple of times to keep you conscious for as long as possible. Another shot rang out, and Javi turned around to fire his gun before his attention was back on you. "Not safe", you mutter, your weak fingers now wrapped around Javi's wrist. "I'll be fine", he stated blankly, drawing his gaze up for just one moment, catching a glimpse of Steve tackling a male to the ground before he's looking down at your paling face, "Can you press your palms to your shoulder, baby?"
When you don't move, Javi is the one moving his palm over the second wound, pressing as hard as he possibly can. "Let me", you mutter, and God or whatever that people believe in knows Javi was glad you don't finish that sentence because he can't and won't think of that outcome. "Don't you dare? You're walking out of here, you hear me?", Javi said letting go of your shoulder. He patted your cheek again as your eyes rolled to the back of your head for a moment. Anger only rushed faster as Javi shouted once again for an ambulance or a medic.
"He had Michael's eyes", you muttered, breathing now even, though Javi knew what that meant - your body was crashing. "Did he, carino?", he knows this is not a conversation he should be having with you, but he's desperate to keep you awake for as long as possible. Javi's hands were soaked with your blood by now, and so was your flowery dress. You nodded your head weakly and said, "I saw Mikey". Javi clenched his jaw, trying to keep his emotions at bay. "I hope you said hi from me as well", but your head lulled to the side. Javi's blood went ice cold because, for a split second, he thought that was it—you were dead. You bled out in his arms. Letting go of your wounds, Javi pulled you closer to his chest, your limp body looking nothing like a rag doll in his arms. The sirens rang somewhere in the air, but now all Javi could think of was how he would never be the same if you never opened your eyes again.

It's fascinating to me how much I've changed my mind about Dean in The Trap. I'm waaaaay more sympathetic to the whole Cas-being-forgiven aspect of it, because yes, Cas apologized initially, but the root of the issue was Cas's painful withdrawal of his partnership and his withholding of critical information. Full stop. He and Dean are NOT equally culpable in this one.
It's not just about Mary and Jack, and yet Cas keeps pivoting to "Dean blaming him for Mary." Which oversimplifies the whole thing in a terrible way. Yes, they're all culpable, and yes they all saw that things were wrong with Jack, but next to Donatello, Cas is THE authority on souls and physically the strongest of TFW. To make matters worse, he all but demanded Dean to parent Jack and take care of Jack's emotions, even though Dean expressed discomfort over his memories of soulless Sam. Dean has repeatedly expressed how he wants Cas to be open and honest with him, especially now that they're co-parenting, and although Cas demanded Dean parent Jack, he then turned around and hid Big Parenting Stuff from him and went off to meet Anael.
Barring Cas's one feeble and poorly-timed, "I tried to fix it on my own because I was afraid of losing this family," he doesn't really spell out his part in the communication failures or apologize very well for withdrawing from Dean, specifically. He sorts of sulls up and say, "I already apologized and I'm not doing it again." Yet, Cas has a continued, longstanding pattern of withdrawal from the partnership. I'm floored that my Cas goggles kept me from seeing it before, and maybe I'm a little embarrassed, too. I mean, honestly, it's amazing that Dean takes him back at all. :/ Once you look past, "Oh no! Dean said mean things!" anyway.
I think by The Trap, Dean has given up trying to get Cas to change or hold him accountable for his lack of communication. Cas sort of gave Dean ultimatums over it, if you squint, and Dean rolled over. And Dean wants to get back together. He needs Cas's support and Cas need his. He looks at everything Cas is and decides that Cas's avoidance and want to protect the family is just woven into the fabric of him, and Dean decides to accept that. It's something he loves about him as much as he resents it. Cas's chivalry is a feature and a bug. Dean loves him for it. It makes his life a Hell sometimes.
Occasionally, I still see people harping on how horrible Dean was for "forgiving" Cas, like Cas doesn't need to be forgiven. And with some distance and clarity, I find that pretty baffling now, but I also remember feeling that way when I wasn't looking at their partnership equally and giving Cas too much leeway on his continued absence from the partnership. I almost...respected Cas more. That thought makes me wince. But his bad decisions I was way more likely to stamp as protective or tactically genius, at least compared to some of Dean's similar decisions. Dean's things I tended to group as "too angry/emotional/irrational." :(
I guess I've come a long way when it comes to holding Sam and Cas accountable for their actions, too. Much of the time, my issues with Dean devolved to unfortunate tone policing or not liking him to express his anger and be angry at his boundaries being breached over and over, even when he was taking his anger out on inanimate objects. I balked just because it made a loud sound that made Sam wince (oh noes, not the wincing).
///
On the other hand, I'm quite impressed that Dean and Cas were finding their way back to each other after the Death of a Child. That's about the hardest thing a marriage can go through, and they were getting back together and trying to heal even before Jack reappeared. Clearly, it's a stress-tested relationship. WAY more stress-tested than your everyday marriages; they've been through multiple apocalypses. On the whole, they often have good communication, even when they disagree, they knew where they stood (like with Donatello). It's just these huge, incredibly unusual horrible earth-shatteringly terrible things that throw them. Chuck's grooming is such a bitch.

So what about, Cybertronians react to perfume in the way humans react to Sex pollen hehehe. I love the idea of human perfume mix with skin contact makes an almost intoxicating scent and sends Cybertronians feral when they get a hint of it. They love how it makes humans skin taste, and it over rides their interface systems.
So enjoy.
_____________
The human moves around Ratchet's medical lab looking at different vials and flasks their eyes flickering over the difference Liquids. " Hey ratchet what are all of these different vials?" They call out to the medic. Ratchet looked up from his work when he heard the human call out to him. He put down the datapad he was looking over and walked over to where the human was examining the various vials on the shelves.
"Those are different medical compounds and chemicals I use in treatments and repairs," Ratchet explained. "The colourful ones contain powerful medications and sedatives. The clear ones hold things like bonding agents or nanite solutions. Others are a mix of experimental solutions"
He pointed to a vial with a swirling pink and purple liquid. "That one is a broad-spectrum energon healing compound I developed. It speeds cellular repair and regeneration, within Cybertronian functions." His optical ridges furrowed as he watched the human carefully look over each vial.
"You know better than to touch anything in here, less you break something and contaminate yourself with something i can't fix" Ratchet said sternly. "Some of this equipment and chemicals could seriously harm an organic being like yourself." Despite his gruff tone, his words held more care than scolding. Biology was complex, and humans were so small and fragile compared to Cybertronians. He hoped his favourite little patient and helping hand was being careful not to endanger themselves.
"It's just fascinating is all, kinda reminds me of a mediaeval apothecary" they chuckle. "Do you ever just take samples for fun, like when you're out and about on planets?" They ask, they were always curious over what things ratchet tended to keep.
Ratchet huffed a small laugh at the comparison to a mediaeval apothecary. "Fascinating perhaps, but also dangerous if mishandled," he remarked.
He considered the human's question for a moment. While most of his samples were acquired for medical necessity, he couldn't deny a certain curiosity about other life forms and ecosystems.
"On occasion I have collected specimens from planets we've visited, simply for observational study," Ratchet admitted.  He walked over to retrieve a data pad containing photos and analyses of plant samples from their recent away missions. "Here, let me show you some I recorded on our last stop." Ratchet enlarged the images for the human to easily see. "This radiation-resistant lichen seems to secrete a natural antifreeze. And these fungi act as natural air filters in their toxic environment." The medic's optics glinted with interest as he discussed his findings. Perhaps exploration held some appeal, even for a skeptic like himself.
They stand close to Ratchet looking over different specimens, “some of these plants look like they would make really nice perfumes'' they mumble while flicking through the different photos reading the small information bubbles around them. As the human stood near Ratchet examining the data on his specimens, something about their scent suddenly registered in his olfactory sensors. An overly sweet aroma was emanating strongly from their skin, but it was clearly not the normal scent of an unadulterated human.“perfume?forgive me, I'm not accustomed to what that is?” he asked with a raised optical ridge
Their eyes flicker to Ratchet. “It's like scented alcohol or oil we put on our skin, most times it alters our scent. We humans happen to have a big fascination with them, and have millions of different perfumes.” they explain before tilting their head in slight amusement. “I'm surprised Cybertronians don't have something similar” they reply.
“once millennia's back cybertron did try making things like that, but due to our metallic body's it doesn't stay on us, or it tented to cause rust spots from the ones they did try and make” Ratchet explained, sensors flared as he analysed the unfamiliar composition, immediately detecting unusual chemical traces that seemed to send strange pulses through his neurocircuitry. The smell was strangely enticing yet worryingly off-kilter at the same time. He tried venting deeply to clear his nasal chamber but the scent only grew stronger.
"What in the Allspark..." the medic muttered, not meaning for the human to hear. His optics dimmed slightly as redundant calibrations ran, trying to make sense of why the scent was affecting his processor. Ratchet crouched down and focused his sharp gaze on the human in concern. They smile up at him offering for him to examine.
"By my scanner  it seems as if you've been contaminated with something. Are you positive these ‘perfumes’ are safe? I need to analyse your system for potential toxins." He asked while trying to figure out why the scent was having such an effect on him, it was as if his processor had thrown care to the wind.
They let out a laugh as his optics try analysing, he moves closer taking another inhale of their scent "haha yes Ratchet, it isn't harmful, humans have been using it for hundreds of years" they state. “Ratchet are you alright?” They ask while cupping his face.
Ratchet's sensors were in disarray as the potent scent overwhelmed his circuits. He vented heavily again, coolant failing to properly flush the heated energon now racing through his fuel lines. His optics flickered with minor instability as calibration errors cropped up across multiple systems.
Though lacking his usual gruffness. Ratchet leaned in closer, trying to pinpoint the source, but only succeeded in inhaling more of the intoxicating aroma. A rumble rose in his chassis against his better judgement. “ your scent...", he struggled to find words between fragmented logic protocols. "It's affecting my sensor net. Overloading my functions. I need to...run a full examination. Determine why this perfume is making your scent overwhelming..."
His field pulsed with uncharacteristic confusion and static electricity. Ratchet knew he should contact someone for assistance, but found himself unable to call out in his muddled state. The human's safety was his top concern, yet he feared touching them in this condition. Some natural, impossible chemistry was at play here, and the medic had no control over his compromised systems.
As gently as his shaking grip allowed, Ratchet grasped the human in his large palm to properly scan them from close range. His detailed medical scanners searched every inch, They gasp as Ratchet glossa meets their throat, fingers shootout to grip the side of his faceplate.
A throttled moan escaped his vocalizer against his will. That light touch from their hands nearly shorted out his already fritzing systems. vents plume in hot exhaust. His interface panel felt too hot and tight , barely clinging to integrity protocols as the pleasure centres of his processor went haywire.
“your scent...overloading my sensory net...cannot...resist...” Ratchet calls out through groans, his grip unconsciously tightened around the small organic in his hand. His free hand scrambled for purchase on the table, denting the metal. Something primal and powerful part of him was unravelling his mental restraints, and no calibration or forced shutdown seemed able to stop it.
Their eyes go wide. "Ratchet! Are you alright do in need to get a Perceptor or first aid?" They ask as the medic leans down into their shoulder, denta nipping at the skin as his digits try removing their shirt as quickly as he physically can. They yelp as he pulls them back together with him, his lips work along their smaller frame desperate to taste the sweet flavour and scent that had taken to their skin. capturing them against his heaving chassis. His optics blazed with static and uncontrolled charge.
"No...don't leave," Ratchet growled through clenched denta. Every fibre of his being screamed for more. His panel snapping open with an echoing click, massively engorged cables twitching in the open. Coolant and lubricant poured from his interface array, drenching the human involuntarily as he grinding against them, bright glowing pink stains their pants and paints their skin in his transfluid.
His hands trembled, barely able to restrain their desire to claim the tiny body before him. Rational thought was impossible under the onslaught of chemical signals frying his cognition. Ratchet bucked erratically against them, whole body illuminated by dancing electricity.
"Need you... interface protocols are in-gauged, can't fight it...please,!" he pants to the human as his spike presses against their back. Blunt node swelled monstrously at its tip.
Their back arches into each grind of Ratchet's spike. “Ratchet!” They whine out.
Their soft noises egg ratchet on, his servos move quickly, trying to discard the pants sticking to their form, he hisses out in annoyance before finally getting them off their legs, throwing them across the medical room. Twisting them around so he can see thier eyes.
Ratchet growls eagerly spike swiftly sliding between their thighs and against their stomach. His spike is already dripping with lubricant. As he ruts against them. Each inhale of their scent has him spiralling more.
"Is this what you want, sweetspark? My spike filling you up?" His voice is rough with lust. Gently spreading their legs wider. Watching the bright pink stick to their legs "Primus... I bet you feel amazing."
He moves slowly pressing his spike against them, tormenting as he presses into them inch by inch. Needy moans leave their lips, hands clinging to him desperately as they roll their hips. “Ratchet!” They cry out.
Their stomach bulges from Ratchet's spike, the bright pink splatter across their skin nearly has ratchet overloading from the mere sensation, not to mention the intoxicating scent of their skin. Ratchet groans deeply at the sight of his spike bulging their abdomen, his engines rumbling with feral satisfaction. One hand strokes almost reverently over the taut swell.
"So stunning like this... stretched wide around me, primus so small and tight”
Slowly he draws his hips back, then thrusts forward, grinding deeply into them. setting a steady pace, rockin into the slick heat enveloping his spike. Ducking his head, he captures their shoulder between his denta, glossa flicking against the sensitive skin as he tries to lap the perfume from their skin.
Ratchet growls deeply, thrusting harder at the way they clench around his spike. The table creaks and trembles under the force of his movements but he can't bring himself to slow down.
"Yes, just like that," he rasps. "Keep that sweet valve squeezing me. Feels so good..."
captures their cries in a heated kiss. "Want you to overload for me," Ratchet purrs. "Let me feel you come undone around my spike, sweetspark..."
His engines are roaring furiously now, spike swelling and throbbing powerfully inside their smaller body. Ratchet groans deeply as they clench around him again, the feeling of that slick heat clenching and rippling around his spike is incredible.
"That's it love, overload for me... you feel exquisite. So good"
The sensations quickly become too much for his own systems to bear, the feeling, scent and the pure primal heat running through his system hits hard. With a staticky shout of Julian's name, he buries himself to the hilt and overloads powerfully. His transfluid gushes hot and thick, pumping deep into their smaller form.
His engines vent heavily as he leans over them, face pressed into their shoulder, a deep guttural moan leaves him, Shuddering with aftershocks. When he finally leans stack to take in their exhaust and truly used form their lungs desperately inhale and exhale drawing in air as if it was their life line.
Bright pink transfluid pudding around them as Ratchet's systems finally subsided. His optics flicker on them. “ Are you alright?” he asked softly, his human companion replied with a soft whine and nod. “ Remind me not to wear my perfume out in public” the call out in shuttered words. It makes ratchet chuckle as he leans back down to them. “a wise decision”

Guys saw this post and it set off the part of my brain where Cater Diamond lives rent free.
@krenenbaker you inspired this.
Gosh, I wanna throw Cater under a microscope.
Like he is such a fascinating character, it's so sad that people just see him as the "social media character." I remember a few months after I got the game I was reading through his vignettes and he was just setting off the gears in my head. Especially his Halloween vignette. I've talked about it before, but it gives us so much insight into Cater. How he doesn't like letting people in and keeps everyone at arms length, even Trey. When Trey was a Starsender, he wouldn't tell him his actual wish. And he was the same before when they got visited by a previous Starsender the year before. Trey knows there's something about him, but he is Trey "But That's None of My Business" Clover so he never pries. He's the closest to Cater, but maybe that's what makes Cater so wary. And how when his mandrake threatened to pull down the curtain, he shoved it back, he changed the subject. We also almost never get Cater by himself. He's always surrounded by people, always performing. And it's hard to tell what he's thinking because he's always brushing stuff aside with a smile on his face. But his Halloween vignette is one where we actually get to see some cracks in that, we actually get a peek into his brain. He's scared of getting too close to people because every time he lets someone in, he has to leave. He clearly cares about the people around him, but he has a track record that prevents him from showing too much of that. And by extension, we as an audience don't get to see too much of who he is behind closed doors. We know he puts on a show, he doesn't like showing when things get to him. When he mentions moving around a lot, he doesn't mention the struggle of it out loud. He says he likes Magicam for the casual connections and how it helps him keep in touch with old faces, but in his vignette when he actually gets messages from one of these faces he doesn't want to engage. In Silver's Halloween vignette he says his life has taught him to live in the moment. But it also taught him to not get comfortable, to keep walls up. He didn’t even tell his dorm something as simple as how he doesn't like sweets for years. Back on Halloween, he watches Diasomnia with something like envy. How they can be there for each other, be close. How they couldn't understand. Not knowing how someone there actually can understand.
Book 7 spoilers mentioned:
I also have a side tangent about him being multifaceted and always blending into what he expects people want. In Book 7, Cater is the only one we see truly struggling with the internships. Like, it is painfully relatable, I feel so called out. We go around the Juniors and see them feeling confident in their plans and here Cater is with his head on a desk feeling more confused and uncertain the more people he talks to. He's spent so much time following what other people want, putting on a show, he doesn't know where to go now. Let's not even mention how this is the moment he knew was coming for the past 3 years: that inevitable goodbye. I feel like Cater could be so interesting for the conflict going on in Diasomnia, but I'm not sure if they'll use him.
Tangent closing: I really like Cater. He's really well written and I don't think he gets enough respect on that front. He gets really good dialogue lines, but he also gets so much more. To me, he's one of the best characters in the game.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Cangst is real people.

Got prompted by @pinkkop but also partially this might end up as the controversial Thai BL post because the range of characters I'd defend with the passion is very wide for me:D
8 BL BOYS I WILL THROW HANDS FOR
Uea (Bed Friend)
Tumblr media
This show isn't jokingly called 'A Tale of 1000 Traumas' for no reason, I mean – there is only so much one young adult can go through, and Uea has been through... well, almost everything. Tagging hurt/comfort fics on AO3 will result into red triggers all around. What fascinates me in this character is his resilience, too. He managed to go through everything with the sheer will power and knowing his own worth, what he deserves and what he does not. I am so glad the show made an active choice to send him to therapy and give him a considerate and loving boyfriend! He really needs both.
Sky (Love in the Air)
Tumblr media
Again, no surprise that everyone would want to protect Sky. The acting was also chef's kiss in this show, I know I shouldn't be but I absolutely enjoyed seeing Sky getting triggered and sent to the red-lit room in his mind because this was pure cinematography, but irl I would just hug Sky with consent and never let him go. And kick Gun until he never rises up again too. I think Rain should've been given full freedom to avenge for his best friend. But this is also why I'm writing all these skyrain fics – because they are safe space for each other and I want to keep seeing it.
Rain (Love in the Air)
Tumblr media
Ehem, like I said– the show has not declared it loudly but he's one of the most ADHD characters in Thai BLs if I ever saw one. He does not deserve to be mocked for his struggles and airheadness. I wish we saw more of him playing into his strengths beside taming a dom, instead of being infantilized by the show sometimes. Don't ask me to dive into full analysis though, I only could watch the PayuRain half of the show once so I'm going off vibes I remember, but I absolutely adore Rain and love reading fics that focus on his ADHD headcanon and how others understand and help him. And also those platonic BDSM tendencies he has with his best friend Sky.
Kawi (Be My Favorite)
Tumblr media
For this guy, I would not fight the show or narration because they treated both characters and viewers with care, gentleness, wise teaching and love (Max is a harsh brat but that's his personality). I would actually fight the fandom: from people who hate-watched this show and refused to acknowledge it was amazingly done further than 'i might've liked it but ew screw this actor and novel the show was inspired by amiright don't judge me for liking it jk lol' to some individuals who missed the beautifully developed and portrayed close bond (aspec on at that, I'll stay firm) that spread across >10 years and different timelines and reduced Kawi to immature whiny weirdo who's scared to fuck Pisaeng ten times a day instead of one, idk. This show is a gem with many life-lessons and Kawi has one of the strongest and fascinating character development in Thai BLs that I've seen. Hands are being thrown.
Boston (Only Friends)
Tumblr media
The creators of the show said the series didn't have any intentional message, but considering how many long discussions and poured out frustrations we had with some people, Only Friends definitely did Boston wrong. So what if he's a proud slut, should the show punish him for it while praising 'righteous' characters high on their horses? I don't think so. My guy was constantly filmed illegally and threatened by his hookups and friends, he's very hesitant about falling in love but he tried his best with clearly spoken offers, poly views and limits. I also see Boston kinda neurodivergent and/or demiromantic based on many lines he said about himself and his own view of people and relationships in the series. Nick might not be fully compatible with him, and I would throw hands for both of them, but if those two would communicate better, there would be no need for the OOC "twist" at the end. Their story could be beautiful, sad and realistic, instead Boston being kicked down in the street dirt by everyone after opening up about his heart and fears made me angry.
Akk (The Eclipse)
Tumblr media
These descriptions just keep getting longer and longer? Oops... I don't think I need to explain the desire to protect Akk – this guy has not stopped crying since a mischievous and passionate newbie managed to break through his 100m thick wall of composure, pokerface and sheer will to survive. And also through all the manipulation Akk faced from the people he looked up to. Akk and everything that he went through managed to rip my heart out, and I'm not kidding. If you're repressed, oppressed and/or struggling with money, desire to make your parents proud and can't help but feel 'disapproved' feelings for someone – meet Akk, he's very relatable. I'd protect him and you too.
Thua (The Eclipse)
Tumblr media
*clears throat* I did say this post would get controversial. I can and I will consider 90% of the people who hate Thua as lacking media literacy :D But without getting into useless fandom discussions, Thua is a poor teenager that needs love and support to be able to find himself and his own voice. He's stressed out by a harsh step-father, constantly facing homophobia and mocking in school, has suicidal intentions and the only good friend who opposed homophobic students and teachers, who showed him safe space and helped reach out to his mother, encouraged him to speak out loudly... went behind everyone's back, started dating the main "bully" of the school who threatened every queer for months and decided to support him while silencing students' and Thua's voices. At least that's what Thua experienced from his POV. Would you throw hands? Thua did, and while I may not agree with how he handled the situation, I can't hate him. He finally stood up for himself and his own, tried to change the system, and I'd fight Suppalo school for him too.
Black (Not Me)
Tumblr media
There's someone who doesn't need my protection at all! A second before turning into bloody merciless activist-fighter who doesn't shy away from murdering capitalists and cops, I would still want Black not to think he's better off alone. While antagonistic sexually-tense exchange of comas with his ex-best friend can count as one of the most delicious type of romance that happened in subtext not text, he still deserved to seek solace in his ex-girlfriend and (ex? they were so close, why Gram does not care about him at all when he returns? we'll never know) other activist friend's company. Also, fighting with his life to change something in how the country works and hearing 'nah, your twin is better, he knows how to fight with social media so we achieved more with him than with you' from his mentor and Black deciding that he should again ditch everyone he cares about...noo:( I need spin-off about him where he gets everything he really deserves.

Hello !! Do you have thoughts on Rhea :]
yes, i do!! with the caveat that we have such limited information on lovelace's crew, what we do have is almost entirely filtered through her perspective, and we kinda... know rhea the least. as much as i find eris a fascinating character too, i wish we'd heard more of rhea.
which is kind of the first thing: rhea is the only AI character in wolf 359 who doesn't have a voice. (we don't hear hyperion's voice, which is supposedly not integrated yet, but he's not even really treated like a character in the scene he's in. and that's a whole other thing.) for hera in particular, she feels a physical disconnect from the others, but the fact that wolf 359 is audio only makes her an equal presence from the perspective of the audience. (which carries over to the live show, where the other characters may not be able to see her, but the audience can, etc.) rhea's situation is kind of the opposite, where her words can be seen by the others, but the audience can only hear or infer her words via what the others read out loud or respond to.
rhea clearly cares about her fellow crewmates, and seems to get along with lambert in particular. lovelace's log: "and communications officer lambert is... communications officer lambert. so an enormous stick in the mud. [...] i heard that, rhea. you are expressly forbidden from telling him i said that." - a sentiment it's easy to imagine early minkowski expressing about eiffel and hera, for the opposite reason. in a more direct parallel, rhea reassures lambert that he "does a great job"; in bach to the future, hera tells eiffel he's "actually very good at his job." the difference in context highlights their priorities; eiffel and hera are having a heart to heart about worthiness, while rhea really is talking about lambert's job - work is important to him, and most people around him don't respect or appreciate his work. what we can infer about rhea is that she's... well, the kind of person who would be lambert's friend. straightforward, rule-following, and professional.
(even something like "see, rhea? i told you someone read [my reports to command]" indicates that they talk to each other a fair amount, but also serves as a mirror to eiffel's belief no one listens to his logs.)
maybe the most interesting thing to me about rhea is her defense of eris: "it's just the way they programmed her, back off." ... again, the complete opposite of how hera might respond. eiffel tries to "defend" her in a similar way in ep 7 - "you can't really hold that against her; it's just her programming" - and she finds it incredibly insulting. with all of that taken together, with how lovelace, lambert, and rhea are in many ways intentional opposites to minkowski, eiffel, and hera, it really makes me wonder how rhea identifies or perceives herself.
i think hera is functionally human, both in her singular, consistent image of herself, and in her role in the narrative. eris appears human to lovelace, but is clear that it's how she sees "a version of herself." whether that refers to that iteration of eris having multiple versions of herself, or if it refers to all of the iterations of her who exist: either way it's a reflection of the way eris exists, and her acceptance of that. by extension, the fact that we don't encounter rhea in any way other than beeping sounds and implied words on station monitors... kind of says something narratively, i think. going back to her lack of voice, even that level of distance and abstraction takes her further away from 'human' perceptions by the audience, while she's obviously still a full person with her own priorities, perspectives, and opinions. i think it's very interesting to consider she might prefer her state of (lack of physical) existence in a way hera clearly does not.

Growing pains
Anger Management (mentioned) and Everlasting Insomniacs (aka Everlasting Trio+Tim)
@batpham-discord-highlights
At the family bonfire, the polycule discuss the possibility of adding a new member. Also, Danny is not happy about his sister going for a long walk with Jason.
[Read on AO3]
“Dude! This is bad.” Danny said, plopping in front of the bonfire. For the moment nobody else was around, the official time for dinner was still half an hour later.
“What?” Tim settled in front of him.
“Like, certified bad.”
Tim frowned. “I’m not following.”
“You don’t understand,” Danny grabbed him by the shoulders as if ten minutes ago he hadn’t done the most disastrous confession ever attempted in this universe. “Jazz is very into bad boys with scars and a soft heart.”
Tim made a face. “Uh oh.”
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Sam sat down beside Danny, “it doesn’t have to end with them together.”
Both looked at her like she was crazy. “They went for a walk.” Said Danny.
“They were holding hands.” Tim continued.
“And she was making goo goo eyes at the man,” Tucker ended, sitting on Danny’s other side. “Anyone want some?”
Tim and Danny went for the same can of soda, their hands touching over the cold surface of the metal. Danny gasped, Tim gasped, and they looked at each other with a slight blush on their cheeks.
“Ugh. Just kiss already!”
“No, no, let them. I’m living for the slow burn going on.” Tucker was smiling at Sam, who rolled her eyes.
“Um,” Tim snatched the can and opened it, even if it was clearly an attempt to not look at either of the trio. “Are you guys really okay with…”
“Are you kidding?”
“Yeah, we have known for a while.”
“How is this news for me?”
“Because you are an idiot and very unobservant,” Sam’s smile was mocking, but she let her head fall on her boyfriend’s shoulder. “You wouldn’t shut up about Tim every time you came back from visiting the Waynes.”
“I… didn’t?”
Tucker placed his head on Danny’s other shoulder and nuzzled him a little. “Yes you did. I have a ten minute recording of you talking about how awesome he is.”
Tim’s face went completely red.
“I hate that I know exactly what you are talking about,” Danny sighed, careful to not jostle his partners too much. “Alright, then. I yield. I think he’s cute.”
“I’m still here.”
“We know.” The trio said at the same time. It would be eerie, but Tim found it fascinating.
Danny’s eyes found Tim’s. “If you are still interested, I’m game.”
Was Tim interested? Yes, he still wanted to date Danny - but now variables had changed. He felt stupid for thinking that those three were just friends, seeing them interact now, how casually they invaded each other’s personal space.
He wanted that too, he realized.
“Yeah. I’m in.”
“I’m in,” Tucker said in what he called his ‘hacker voice’ as he pushed up his glasses.
Danny and Sam snorted. “Nerd.” She added.
“Welcome to the polycule, Tim,” Danny extended a hand to him, which he accepted. Then, he was gently pulled into the other’s lap, his face too close to halfa. “We have nerd jokes, death jokes and general insanity.”
He didn’t care that his face resembled a tomato at this point. “That’s my kind of fun. There’s complementary coffee, I assume?”
“We got another one,” Sam groaned as Tucker laughed.
Danny, instead, leaned in to kiss him on the lips. He was cold, his lips almost uncomfortably cold despite the heat of the bonfire having warmed up his body. It was fine by Tim, and it also made him wonder how the other two would kiss. The one he had been crushing on for a while was Danny, but now that he finally met his best friends in person he could see why they were together; and he was not immune to how cute their little polycule was. He wanted more of them, of this.
“This is cute and everything, but here comes your sister, Danny.”
“Oh, yeah. They have kissed.” Sam deadpanned.
“What!”
And this is how the kiss ended, apparently. Danny’s arms kept Tim on his lap, once more being reminded that he was not human and he supported the weight of three grown adults like it was nothing.
Tim felt more than heard the growl in Danny’s chest as he tried to control his breathing. That didn’t help calm down his heart.
He turned to where his boyfriend (boyfriend!!!!) was glaring daggers at; and indeed Jason and Danny’s older sister were approaching them, hand in hand, and a content expression on their faces. Their lips were slightly swollen, Jason’s curls messed up just enough to be dismissed if you were not paying attention, and Jasmine’s hair was not in the bun she had when the two disappeared for a ‘walk’.
“Timbo.” Jason was the first to speak, cutting through the tension building up, eyes narrowed, daring him to comment on the new arrangement of things.
“Jason,” Tim’s eyes went to the still joined hands, and then to the flushed face of the elder Fenton. “Did you have an interesting walk?”
“Eventful. Jazz makes good conversation,” he licked his lips and Jasmine choked at his answer, but didn’t add anything. “Did you have a nice swim?”
“Eventful,” he said in a bored tone, as if he wasn’t in a prison of limbs and Danny and the others weren’t giggling at the exchange. “Did you know Danny was dating his best friends?”
“He mentioned it a few times.”
“Was I really the only one that didn’t know?”
A chorus of ‘yes’, ‘yep’ and a nod from Jazz was all the answer he received.
“That’s because you are an idiot,” Jason scoffed, pulling Jazz by their entwined hands so they sat in front of the bonfire as well. “I hope they beat some common sense onto you.”
“Oh, I’m sorry Jay, but that’s not gonna happen anytime soon,” Jazz shook her head. “They share a brain cell and sometimes they feed each other’s bad ideas.”
Before Danny could defend what Tim assumed were perfectly fine ideas (like using his powers to propel a floaty and crash into the ocean at breakneck speeds), a new voice joined the conversation.
“Oh my God.”
They turned, finding Damian, Dick, Cass, Alfred and Bruce carrying the pizza boxes that were for dinner, their eyes roaming over the picture they made and coming to the correct conclusions.
Damian didn’t look pleased, but decided to ignore them all and sit on the other side of the bonfire and start eating his vegetarian pizza in peace.
“B, I think the family just got bigger,” the eldest brother whispered to his father, but everyone heard him.
“Indeed.” Bruce's tone was controlled, as if he knew the kind of madness that was in store in his future.

Houseki no Kuni Chapter 100 Thoughts: Simplicity
Hello, everyone! I hope you all have been fairing well for the past couple of months. Several catastrophic events have been happening across the world during this time and I wish all the best to those who are negatively affected by them.
I just finished reading Houseki no kuni’s 100th chapter and... it was fine. It was a cute chapter and the final pages seem to suggest something important will happen in the next chapter. But personally speaking, while I liked the chapter overall, I guess I expected a bit more since A) It’s chapter 100, and B) we had to wait several months to get it.
I understand if others don’t feel the same way I do and you can share how you felt on this post. Don’t get me wrong; I liked the chapter overall, especially because we got to see Phos having a nice time with the new rock species (until the end). But with that being said, I know I enjoyed previous chapters more. Compared to those chapters, this chapter felt a little subpar, especially when keeping in mind what I said above, aka the hype around the release of the chapter. So, yeah...while I liked the chapter, it was a little bit disappointing. Perhaps this intended and was to serve as yet another “calm before the storm” chapter. We’ll see!
Anyways, despite my "okay-ish” view of the chapter overall, I do have a few things to say about it. It gets surprisingly philosophical in one part so I hope you don’t mind. I may add more to this over time, but we’ll see. As always, please feel free to share your thoughts, especially on what you think the end of the chapter means! I’m genuinely curious to know what you guys thought of it.
Enjoyment of Simplicity: Cute Little Rocks Being Cute
I will reiterate again about how cute this chapter was. Phos’ interactions with the pebble are honestly really precious. Also, I didn’t realize how small the pebble was! I don’t know why but knowing this makes it cuter somehow!
Tumblr media
The discovery of the other rock organisms was also pleasant, and I’m fascinated by the fact they are all different in almost every way. To me, this further reiterates how this new species are not like the previous inhabitants. They are not cookie cutter copies of one another with small differences distinguishing one from another. These new rocks have different appearances, ways of moving, and ways of communication. Part of me believes that’s one of the reasons why Phos like these rock organisms.
But other than this new species seemingly not sharing a connection to their past (I’ll get into that in the next section), I think what Phos likes about them the most is their simplicity. Not just by how they look and move, but by how they view the world and enjoy what is. Phos is clearly learning how to adopt that view and after everything they experienced, this was needed.
Tumblr media
Look at how the chapter starts. Phos is just with their little pebble friend, singing to each other while “gazing” at the world around them and the little bugs giving them flowers. Nothing is bothering them and they are just enjoying the moment without a care in the world. After everything, especially after the seemingly endless number of emotionally and physically damaging course of events, being able to just live in the moment must feel nice.
Isn’t it funny how Phos ended up going from wanting to do big things at the beginning of the story because they felt unfulfilled and lonely, to be doing small and seemingly mundane things but is enjoying themselves with company? Maybe having the right company and a new mindset was what Phos really needed. I know it’s not that simple and there were many factors that contributed to Phos’ journey through this story. But thinking about how they are in this chapter had me thinking...
How would the events of the story have played out at the beginning if Phos had their current mindset? I’m certain I’ve brought this up in previous posts and I know others have thought this as well, but what would have happened if Phos had decided to NOT go beyond their means and instead learned to enjoy what they had and not on what they didn’t have. This again goes back to my previous post about the last chapter, about how Phos had an unquenchable desire for an unfulfillable goal. Perhaps if Phos didn’t constantly chase after their unrealized dream and focused on what they had, maybe they could have had a happier life. It would have been simple, but if could have prevented a lot of the suffering they experienced.
But then again, living the simplest has it’s own drawbacks too, including self-sabotaging personal growth. If you oversimplify your life to the point that you prevent yourself from experiencing things and learning from them, you’re stunting yourself and that could hurt you just as bad as experiencing the bad stuff. I realize I went on a tangent, but I hope what I said makes sense.
Anyways, I find the contrast between how Phos was during different points of the story to how they are now is very intriguing. It looks like they are finally happy.
At least until those final pages of this chapter.
Phos’s Final State: Breakdown or Final Fulfillment?
Tumblr media
Before I made this post, I saw a few people have already shared their reactions and many of them share the same thought: What the heck happened at the end of the chapter? Why did Phos gelatinate/turn into a puddle? Did they just die? This is clearly something new because during these past few chapters, it’d been shown to us that Phos’s new form had never changed, even after the long periods of time. So this change is significant, but what does it mean? What happened to Phos and why? After thinking about it and reviewing what led to that final image, I have three current theories. I’ll do my best to explain them and if you need further explanation, please let me know and I’ll add more details!
The first (and second) theory is speculative, but perhaps this form is another physical manifestation of Phos’s emotional state and is supposed to indicate that they had a mental breakdown. I thought this because it seemed Phos reacted this way because of what the pebble said. After reading what the writing rock wrote, Phos seemed fine for the most part and didn’t fully understand the significance of the words. But when the pebble reiterated what was said and seemed to understand their significance, that was when Phos became a puddle. Why? Well... What if the rocks making this revelation made Phos think about their past again, thus causing them to breakdown in mourning?
I consider this my weakest theory, but I’ll do my best to explain it. After being with the pebble for so long, perhaps Phos thought they were finally able to move on from their past with the now deceased human descendants. But the rocks had unintentionally reopened wounds Phos thought had healed and caused them to spiral again. I hope this isn’t the case because it would contradict Phos’ actions and feelings from the previous chapters.
Tumblr media
For my second theory, it’s a slightly different take on the first theory: what if the pebble’s revelation the was meant to indicate to Phos that the Gems, Lunarians, and Admirabilis are not completely gone? Yes, they no longer exist in this new world, but what if what was left of them now lives on in the new rock organisms? Basically, these rocks could be sort of reincarnations of the deceased human descendants and this realization is what causes Phos to literally breakdown?
This theory is what I was hinting at in the previous section. Like I said before, I believe one of the reasons Phos liked the rocks is because they seemed to bare no connection to their past with the human descendants. But these last few pages seem to indicate otherwise, with the new rock species stating to Phos that they are connected to them. This leads me to the belief that instead of becoming complete nothingness like Gems, Lunarians, Admirabilis and Phos had hoped, their broken down “essence” had essentially spread like confetti in this new world and parts of them now live anew in these new species. This concept is based on some religious, spiritual and philosophical beliefs that are similar in nature to this; basically, the belief is that once you perish, your spiritual and physical essence is “redistributed” into the world. This belief can be connected to the concept of reincarnation; to me, the concepts are very similar but not exactly the same.
In context of this theory, either concept could work; the rocks could contain remnants of the disintegrated human descendants or they are their reincarnations. Either way, my theory is that Phos made that connection and this is what causes them to breakdown or reexperience trauma.
Edit to add for those who didn’t see the reblog: Thank you @undine-taz and @mailgirl-bellwether for bringing up Buddhism! Yes, Buddhism is one of the religions that came to mind when this theory was conjured up. My understanding of Buddhism is limited and I didn’t want to make baseless claims, so I initially omitted this in the post. But yes, Buddhism played a role in this theory. And since there’s heavy Buddhism symbolism throughout the story, maybe this theory isn’t completely baseless.
Tumblr media
My third theory is different from the other two; they revolved around the belief that Phos is having a mental/physical breakdown in response to the new rock species. My third theory instead focuses on the possibility that Phos realized that they no longer need to be there? What if after bringing these species together and them coming to their own revelations, Phos felt that they weren’t needed anymore and just allowed themselves to “die?” That they fulfilled their final purpose in this new world by helping build, or initiating the build, of a new world for the inhabitants. Phos got to enjoy the fruits of their grueling and unfair labor with the pebble and now that they brought it to other organisms that are like it, Phos is no longer needed... and decides to release their final form and slowly fall apart until there’s nothing left.
I don’t have a lot of evidence for this theory other than it being abundantly clear that whatever happened at the end of this chapter was unusual based on the pebble’s reaction. These were just the theories that popped into my head after rereading the chapter a few times. Please feel free to share what you guys think, including your own theories on what happened at the end of the chapter!
What’s Going On In Your Head, Ms. Ichikawa?
Well... I’m glad to see that chapter 100 was not the last chapter of the story since it ended on a cliffhanger. But the question is... now what? Where is this story going and how is it going to end? This chapter has once again made it very unclear; Ms. Haruko Ichikawa is way too good at that and I’m still debating if that’s a good or a bad thing.
Anyways, thanks to the cliffhanger, we know for sure that there will be more to this story. What it’ll entail?... No clue; I’ve given up guessing for the time being. But I can’t wait to find out and, honestly, I can’t wait for the story to end. Despite my gripes with it, including how I felt about this chapter, I’m still glad I’ve stuck to this story for so long and I can’t wait to see what happens. I just hope it’ll be worth it.

“Rose and the Corinthian are both people who need care, in different but complimentary ways, and i think that's part of what fascinates me about pairing them.”
I would say this ask is more of a “Thoughts on Corirose” one, based on your excellent quote/response here from LA Guard Dog part 1 👀
i do not remember saying this, which is funny to me because looking back at my comment replies on that fic, i was clearly burned out from final year of grad school. i'm way more loquacious now that my brain isn't running on fumes and spite. but i DO remember how much i appreciated each comment; those ao3 notifications in my inbox were little sparks of delight amid rejection emails and, later, a wave of onboarding paperwork.
anyways i stand by past me's words. i feel like fandom downplays how much Rose has lost: she's a young adult from a broken home, her mom died and left her with limited material resources to start her own life, she met Unity and then almost immediately lost her, she got her brother back but only after he's been through hell, and now she's his only living guardian. she's never really had a childhood. so it makes sense, to me, that deep down she'd really want to be cared for. she had to be The Responsible One with Lyta, with Jed, with the Endless. when is someone going to watch out for her? and yeah, the implication at the end of s1 is that she has this whole found family who are invested in her, but caring about someone is different from caring for them. also accepting care from people you feel have already given you a lot can be difficult when you're used to being self-sufficient and circumstances have taught you that the only person you can really trust to stick around is yourself. i skip ahead to post-comix in LA guard dog, but even with some distance from the events of the Doll's House arc, she's still a mid-20s woman in a parental role for a traumatized preteen. that's a lot for someone who isn't also a daughter of the Endless and the only remaining adult of her human bloodline.
enter the Corinthian. he's useful for Rose in a few ways: he can't die, he can shoulder some of the responsibilities involved with raising a kid (at very least the stuff that takes minimal skill but maximum brain space, like school schedules and chores and packing lunch). also he's an utter hedonist, which is great for getting Rose acclimated to the idea of having things she likes rather than just what she needs. look, he wanted a fancy coffee so he got her this fancy floral pastry. extrapolating from the comix (including the dreaming run, but i'm cherry picking there), he's very much a person who shows feeling through action, even when that's at direct contradiction with his words. and that's great for Rose, who i imagine has had a lot of people say nice things to her and then utterly fail to show up for her in the ways that matter.
i'm talking about him like he's a tool, which admittedly is how Dream still conceptualizes him to some degree in this au. but he's aware this time around that's not what the Corinthian needs, hence giving him to Rose. i don't know that Rose can think of the Corinthian as an object, based on her experiences and who she is as a person. Rose imagines possibilities that Morpheus could not. so her idea of care for a Nightmare looks different, too, and the crux of the LA guard fic pt. 2 is the question "is that enough?" idk! but i think it matters to the Corinthian. there's a moment in the dreaming comix, during Coco's Year As A Real Boy, where he muses that his bf Sila has become more than a distraction to him--i think someone seeing the Corinthian as a person, beyond his function as a mirror (aka what he can do for/to them), is the realization of a story he's been telling himself for a long time. about him and the Dreaming, about him and Dream.
tl;dr: Coco and Rose are both people who have been positioned as non-subjects in their respective worlds and that means they're both weirdly able to affirm each other's subjectivity.

indeed, anon. i'm sure it means a lot for LO that you're willing to lie so blatantly. 1. that user they mentioned? not one of my followers or regular users who interact with my content. if you go to their blog, literally the only one that reblogued from any of us was this post. for the record, it was the post where i posted the screenshot of LO using the r-slur against her critics and Brittany commenting that LO later changed it to "crackhead".
Tumblr media
i can't speak for the other blogs though. at least they didn't ring any bells for me. just in case it's needed too: i'm stubbornly clear about how i don't want anyone reading my blog to go interact with LO in any sort of way. the goal here is deplatforming and you can't deplatform someone if you just keep validating their platform with more social interactions. not to mention that anything you say to her is just more for her victim narrative. 2. one reblog post. zero likes. the rest of their interaction are miscelanious posts that have nothing to do with either LO or our blogs. is that what "regularly interact with" means now? but even if they did "regularly" interacted with any of us... again, we're all pretty adamant about not harassing or bothering LO because it'll always be useless. so clearly this person is not listening to us either and went out of their way to go against what we try to do. i'm not happy about this person going off on LO like they did either. 3. let me get this straight. when we say that some anons write the exact same as LO does and we can recognize the tone, or it's just pathetically obvious in some other way, that's us building conspiracy theories because we can't accept that someone might actually like LO. those two things have nothing to do with each other in the first place, LO is capable of using sockpuppet accounts and also there being people who for some reason think they like her, those are not mutually exclusive, but that's what LO has said before. but when this unconfirmed anon that nobody know who they are say that they recognize the writing style of some of the anon messages we get with this other random tumblr user who only wrote something by themselves once, oh, now that's a valid thought process. to clarify, they might be right for all i know. i have no clue. i just know that this user went against LO in the most unnecessary way possible and it did nothing but anyone, so i hope at least it was worth it for them because certainly it wasn't for us. they might have also send us some anons for all i care. i just question the double standard here. when we do it, it's a conspiracy. when other people to it to defend LO, no, that's just being a smart person who just notices this kind of things. 4. "showing people 5+ instances of you being directly contacted by the blog"... what is this even talking about? what other 5+ instances are they refering to? i only just found out about this one user going on their own. this one user i might have seen once in my activity notifications and never again. where are those other blogs who are part of this side of tumblr doing this? 5. "everything going on with Poppy last month has also been very helpful." i'm so glad, anon, that you're able to be so honest and say that you're glad that Poppy violated the consent of a survivor of CSA to the point that she destroyed his trust. i almost respect that. or do you mean the multiple allegations of abuse against her that have nothing to do with us or LO? the ones that LO has majorly ignored? while treating Poppy like a potential victim only after she put the testimony of Courtney behind a paywall? truly, i'm fascinated with how you see a sex pest harming people, using them and discarding them as "helpful" to keep the good reputation of your favorite youtuber. indeed, the sign of a well adjusted and moral person with their priorities in the right places. thank god that all those people were negatively affected by Poppy so it could serve you to keep protecting a proven groomer. i bet all those victims will be delighted to know that their experiences were useful for you. but really, what i can expect from a fan of the woman who has said more victim blaming things that are more aboherrent than that? you two truly deserve each other.

ohh right!!!!!! NING YI for the character ask game
First impression: I could not get a read on him for a few episodes! I couldn't tell what his true intentions actually were, how much was an act and how much was legitimate. I was honestly iffy about him at first.
Impression now: TALK ABOUT A COMPLEX CHARACTER! As the story progressed, you just see all these layers get peeled back and it's fascinating seeing him try to hold all these pieces together without losing anything (and it's tragic because we know that he's going to lose almost everything). Seeing his internal struggles over what he wants vs. what he has to do, what he's allowed to do. His ruthlessness and cunning helping him as often as they endanger him and the people he loves. I know I'm going to end up rotating him in my head even more after I finish my second watch lol.
Favorite moment: Basically every conversation he has with his father but this one in particular. *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media
(yes this is my gif this time! lol)
Idea for a story: I already have a Ning Yi centric fic that's done (letting it marinate until the new year) but I think an interesting premise would be if he actually wasn't Ning Shizheng's son.
Unpopular opinion: Don't know if this is unpopular but, since starting the novel, I THINK THEY SHOULD'VE MADE HIM MEANER! The moments in the drama where he's cold and calculated are great and I wish that could've been dialed up a little more. Chen Kun absolutely would've nailed it. Let him be nasty!!! Let him have people get scalding hot tea dumped on their heads and push people in freezing cold rivers to drown! Let him seriously consider murdering people who get in his way first! I need to see it! lol
Favorite relationship: (continuing down the road of non-romantic relationships) XIN ZIYAN! The way they have their verbal sparring matches, the fact that they clearly care for each other but also fundamentally misunderstand each other. The rift in their relationship by the end that will probably never be fully repaired! Ahh!
Favorite headcanon: Technically this is novel canon but he and FZW are bi-for-bi, I will not hear anything otherwise. He would be DTF for Wei Zhi just as fast as FZW lol.

A/N: AHHHH!!!! IT’S FINALLY DONE!!!!! And I’m posting a little early as a special treat. I’m so excited for you guys to read this chapter! I’ve really enjoyed writing this story. I might come back and edit these parts eventually, just to make the syntax and grammer better, but no promises. Thank you so much for reading this far and for all your support! I hope you enjoy reading this part as much as I enjoyed writing it! Sending you lots of love! (P.S. I will start working on the last requests I got now that this story is finished. I still won’t be taking any new requests for the time being, but I will work on the ones I was sent.)
Tumblr media
You toss and turn. Vivid, nightmarish images greet your eyelids each time you close them. Terrifying creatures, big needles, excessive amounts of blood, and all other kinds of violent things are all that you see. Sleep will be nearly impossible at this rate.
With a defeated sigh, you move to get up, only to realize that you are still in massive pain. A silent whimper escapes your throat as you realize how helpless you truly are. You want to call out for someone, but you’re afraid the Doctor will show up, and that would be way too awkward right now.
Seeing no other viable option, you decide to take a chance and call out for Amy, hoping she is somewhere nearby. Lady luck must be smiling down upon you, because no more than 30 seconds later, she comes running into the room.
“Is everything alright?” she looks a bit frantic, obviously concerned for your wellbeing, and you smile. It’s nice to be cared about.
“Yes and no,” you reply, as Amy moves to take a seat next to your bed.
“How so?” she asks.
You explain the troubling images that you see every time you try to rest your eyes, and the way your whole body still hurts like hell. You purposefully leave out your conversation with the Doctor, not wanting to think about that at the moment.
She listens intently and nods, thinking hard, before an idea seems to pop into her head. Her eyes light up and she stands quickly, saying she’ll be right back. She exits the room in a hurry and you’re left sitting there, completely dumbfounded.
She returns a few minutes later with a small glass bottle, filled with a strange liquid. She pushes the bottle into your hands and you take it, examining it curiously.
“What is it?”
“It’s this incredible medicine the Doctor bought for me at an alien market. It doesn’t heal you instantly, but it speeds up the recovery process a lot. I had forgotten about it until now. I once broke my wrist during one of our trips. I drank a bit of this and I was completely healed in a week! It was amazing!” she grins with excitement, clearly wanting you to give it a try as well.
“How much do I need to drink?”
“Just a small sip will do,”
You unscrew the lid and sniff the contents. It smells surprisingly fruity.
You glance at Amy, who is still smiling encouragingly, before taking a small swig. It’s sweet, with just a hint of bitterness at the end. It’s not bad, for a supposed medicine.
Almost instantly, you feel some of the tension melt away. You still have some pain, but it seems a bit duller than before. You also notice how much more relaxed you feel.
“Wow, I feel…”
“Really chill, right?”
“Yeah, super chill,”
“That’s one of the side effects. It makes you relaxed. Also, some people have good dreams as well. I thought it’d be worth a shot,”
“Thank you,”
“Of course! Anything for a friend,”
A warm feeling builds in your chest. You’re not sure if it’s the medicine or just knowing that you have a friend as amazing as Amy, but it feels almost euphoric.
You smile at her and she returns the gesture, before suddenly, you feel very sleepy. Amy seems to notice and gently takes the bottle from your hands, says goodnight, and leaves the room, just as you fall into a pleasant dream.
***
You wake feeling happy and refreshed. You’re not nearly as sore as you were last night and your thoughts are in a much better place. In fact, you don’t feel any pain at all. You make a mental reminder to thank Amy again when you see her.
You get up without any hindrance, a huge smile on your face. Throwing on a light sweater, you make your way down to the console room. There is a definite pep in your step, so much so, that you’re almost skipping. You feel incredible!
“Good morning!” you exclaim, greeting both the Doctor and Amy, your smile still ever present.
“You seem to be in a good mood,” Amy says, walking over to you. The Doctor gives you a passing side glance but remains silent.
“Yeah, that medicine you gave me is wonderful! I feel completely fine! No more soreness or pain anywhere,” you bounce happily before the Doctor is suddenly in front of you.
“May I?” he asks, reaching out for the bandage on your neck. You are slightly surprised at his abrupt appearance, but you nod your head in confirmation. He avoids your gaze, instead choosing to focus intently on studying your neck.
He tenderly removes the bandage and examines the area, his eyes widening in shock. He moves back slightly before coming closer and running his fingers gently along where your wound was. You shiver involuntarily at his touch, causing the Doctor to briefly meet your eyes. He looks away just as quickly and steps back, clearing his throat awkwardly.
“You’re healed. Completely. No trace of the wound at all,” he makes his way back to the console and continues working on whatever it is he was working on when you entered the room.
“What? But how is that possible? I mean, I know the medicine I gave them is powerful, but there’s no way they could’ve healed that fast,” Amy is astonished (as are you) but the Doctor seems mostly unfazed.
“I don’t know. I’m guessing it has something to do with their extraordinary abilities,” he turns to look at you as he continues with,
“You keep finding new ways to surprise me,” his expression is almost melancholic, but he looks away before you can get a good read on him.
The next few days pass rather uneventfully. The Doctor monitors your condition and you spend time with Amy, reading, talking, and drinking lots of tea.
You’ve just finished having a ‘tea talk’ moment with Amy, when the Doctor calls out your name, beckoning you to the console room. As soon as you enter, he starts rambling like mad, still refusing to look you in the eye.
“And so basically, I think I’ve created a way to keep you off the radar,” you really weren’t listening to anything he said, but his last line catches your attention.
“Off the radar?” you repeat and the Doctor nods his head, grabbing something from the console and making his way over to you.
“Yes. I still don’t fully understand your powers, but I think I’ve learned enough to create a dampener of sorts that will prevent other ‘interested parties’ from tracking you down,” he looks up at you for a brief moment while simultaneously reaching for your hand, as if silently asking for permission. You nod in approval and he delicately slips a silver band on your ring finger.
“Oh,” is all you can say, heat rising to your cheeks at the implications of him putting a ring on your finger.
“And I’m sure now,” he continues, meeting your gaze, “I’m in love with you,” his words make you draw in a sharp breath. You’re certain your face is as red as a tomato at this point.
“Oh,”
Is that really all your brain can muster up? He just confessed his love for you and all you can say is ‘Oh’? You want to smack yourself.
“You don’t have to say anything,” he says, seeming to sense your shock. “I don’t expect you to return my feelings, I just wanted you to know,”
You simply nod your head, not trusting your own voice. The Doctor gives you a small smile before returning to the console to work on… whatever it is he does at the console.
For a moment, you’re frozen in place, unsure what to do next. Bless the stars that Amy decides to make an appearance at this very moment.
“So,” she says, as soon as she walks in, “where are we going next?”
***
For the next three weeks, you train intensely to hone and manage your powers. The Doctor works with you to make a specialized training routine and it’s actually helping a lot. You have a lot more control than you did when you started. Now, you can do almost anything with ease. You’ve even traveled in time on your own and navigated your way back safely.
You’ve also discovered a number of other things you can do, from teleportation to creating new matter from nothing. You can even manipulate objects with your mind. On top of all that, you have a ridiculous amount of stamina and you’ve become extremely agile, strong, and incredibly fast. You’ve discovered that you can lift up to 230kg and run up to 96 kph. Basically, you can do just about anything. If you can think of it, you can probably do it.
It’s another full day of training, this time back on Earth, and things are going well. To be honest, you really don’t need to do any more, but you like the routine and the way it distracts your mind.
“997, 998, 999, 1000!” you finish the last push up and collapse onto the ground, feeling accomplished, yet hardly tired. You’ve barely broken a sweat.
“Wow, you broke your time record too. 1000 pushups in 30 minutes. Good job!” Amy congratulates you as she hands you a water bottle.
“Where’s the Doctor?” you ask, before taking a long drink.
“He went to get snacks. He should be back any-” Amy is cut off by the sound of an explosion nearby. The ground shakes, causing both of you to momentarily lose your balance. You share a look with her for only a moment before you take off running, telling her to stay put.
You round the corner just in time to see the Doctor being forcefully taken away by some strange looking creatures. He struggles in their hold, trying to assure them that it’s all just a big misunderstanding, but they pay him no mind. You hide behind a nearby wall, watching as they load him into the back of what looks like a military truck, with a dull green canopy stretched over the trailer.
You close your eyes and imagine all four tires popping, all the air quickly being sucked out of them. Not even a second later, you hear the sound of rubber bursting and you open your eyes to see that your manifestation was successful. You smirk as you watch the aliens scramble to figure out what happened, using the opportunity to sneak over to the back of the truck.
Just as you are about to look inside, the Doctor pops his head out. You both shriek in surprise before shushing each other. You stare at one another for a moment before suddenly bursting out in quiet laughter, giggling in glee as you make your escape.
You are able to find your way back to the field undetected, and you all decide to call it a day. You head back to the TARDIS, ready to kick your feet up and relax.
“Well, I’m gonna go catch some Z’s,” Amy says and yawns. You say goodnight and she retreats to her room, leaving you and the Doctor alone in the console room.
The two of you sit in heavy silence for a long while. You haven’t really been alone with him at all since… well, since he put that ring on your finger.
Your emotions have been all over the place since then and you’ve thrown yourself into training to avoid thinking about it. Honestly, you think you feel the same, and that terrifies you. You’ve never really been in love. Not like this, at least. This love is overwhelming and all consuming. It’s almost too much to bear.
“You alright, love?” the Doctor’s voice breaks you out of your trance and you jump slightly at his close proximity. He is standing right in front of you. When did that happen?
“Uh, yeah, yeah I’m fine,” you try to brush him off, but he doesn’t move away.
“You sure? Because you seem on edge lately. I’m worried about you,” he reaches out to gently caress your face. Without even thinking, you lean into his touch, letting out a breath you didn’t even know you were holding.
You meet his eyes and suddenly, something comes over you. You reach out, wrap your arms around his neck, and pull him down into a passionate kiss. He seems a bit surprised at first, but quickly melts into you.
By the time you pull away, you’re both gasping for air. Neither of you says anything for a while, simply enjoying each other’s warmth. Finally, the Doctor breaks the silence.
“Where did that come from?” he asks, still slightly out of breath.
You struggle for a moment to find the right words, simply gazing at him in awe.
“I- I think- no- I know that,” you start, stumbling over yourself. You pause and take a deep breath before blurting out:
“I love you,”
The Doctor just stares at you like a deer in headlights before a smile slowly spreads on his face.
“Do you mean it?” he whispers, leaning his forehead against yours.
“Yes,” you whisper back, and this time it’s his turn to capture you in a kiss.
The two of you kiss for what feels like an eternity, before he finally pulls away to look at you.
“Say it again,” he says softly, and you instantly know what he means. Even still, you want to tease him a little.
“It again,” you smile and stick your tongue out at him, causing a small laugh to bubble up in his chest.
“No, you know what I mean,” he lightly pinches your sides and you giggle, deciding that you like this game.
“You say it first,” you swear you see a blush rise to his face, but his smile never falters.
“I love you,” he says it with ease and you feel your heart soar. You resolve to let him get what he wants, just this once.
“I love you, too,” you say and his smile grows, shining as bright as the sun.
You and the Doctor. Your Doctor. Forever and always.

I have to make my obligatory "how Helena & Sebastian got together" explanation post, so here it is.
[ I've now got a whole page dedicated to them on Helena's character page where I've also written this (and more) out ]
Helena and Sebastian become quick friends–he's fascinated by "the new fifth year" and she becomes very receptive to him once he takes the blame for her in the library when they sneak into the restricted section for the first time. They become duelling partners for Crossed Wands, he shows her the Undercroft, she shows him (and Ominis) the Room of Requirement... "Sebastian & Ominis" becomes "Helena, Sebastian, & Ominis."
Through all this time spent together, including some adventures together around the highlands, Helena develops feelings for Sebastian. It starts slowly, and builds up as they spend the weeks together, and she ends up with a full on crush on him. The problem is that not only is Sebastian her friend, but he's also got a reputation for being a flirtatious, charming rogue with girls.
What Helena doesn't know, is that Sebastian doesn't care about those other girls, he's just putting up the facade of "Sebastian Sallow, the best duelist at Hogwarts, holder of the highest detention record, and dashing rogue" for everyone to see, so they don't see the broken, messed up boy underneath. Back in his fourth year, after Anne was cursed, a girl had shown interest in him, and he got sucked in, and just went along with it all so he would feel something other than anger and sadness and guilt, and he'd been using all the girls he'd "charmed" after that for the same thing. Did this make him a bastard? Yes. Did he know it? Yes. Did he stop? Nope... not even when it hit him one day that he had feelings for a certain friend of his–he can't do real feelings and a real relationship anyway, because he's got to save Anne!
It's about mid-October when "In the Shadow of the Study" happens, and everything goes down in the Scriptorium. Helena knows there's no way she can cast crucio on Sebastian–she cares about him too much, and so it's on him to cast it on her. The first time he tries, it doesn't even work, and the only way he can do it is after she convinces him it's the only way to get into the Scriptorium to save themselves and to find what they need to save Anne... so he closes his eyes and imagines he's casting crucio on the goblin who cursed Anne. So the only way he can cast it on Helena is to picture someone else who he hates, because he also cares about her too much to intentionally cause her pain.
The school year continues, and they still remain close friends while harboring their feelings for each other (much to Ominis' dismay). During the winter, Helena gets asked out by Gryffindor Eric Northcott, and decides to just go with it, because Sebastian clearly doesn't have those kind of feelings for her so she decides to try and get over him by courting Eric instead.
Sebastian is a jealous monster. He has no right to be, since they aren't together and he's still fooling around with half the girls in their year, but he is livid. There's a bit of an argument, but Ominis manages to talk Sebastian down before he completely rages out, and things are okay between everyone.
Despite Helena being with Eric, and Sebastian fooling around with other girls, they still have feelings for each other, and because they do, shenanigans ensue as winter continues... there may or may not be an amortentia potion incident, some "almost kisses," and their friends pestering them about their crushes on each other, just to name a few.
After "In the Shadow of the Mine," Sebastian and Helena get into a huge fight when he calls her "ignorant" for the whole Lodgok thing. That argument is bad, because other stuff gets brought into it as well: their feelings for each other (in a round-about teen angst way, of course), Sebastian's treatment of Helena and Ominis during his search for Anne's cure, and Helena's father's death–which is one of the reasons she's helping Sebastian in the first place, because she understands what he's going through. Her father died from tuberculosis and all she could do was watch as he withered away right in front of her and could do nothing to help. Little did she know, that magic existed, which could have potentially saved him, and when she learns that years later it is devastating. So she understands wanting to find whatever cure is out there to help Anne, because she missed out on that opportunity with her father. So the whole "ignorant" thing? That doesn't go over well at all.
Because of this fight, Helena and Sebastian don't speak for a bit. Sebastian even misses Helena's birthday because he's so damn stubborn. Meanwhile, Helena's ended things with Eric because she's really not into it and not into pretending anymore.
Eventually, Helena asks Sebastian to find the last piece of the triptych because she needs more answers about Isidora, and they begrudgingly set out to Marunweem together for "In the Shadow of the Mountain." It's not great, with Sebastian ready to rush into battle without thinking at any moment, and him being all "I'm sorry, I need you to fix Anne," every time she threatens to just go it alone, but they manage to make it. There may or may not be a near-death experience with that troll in there, but they make it. When they see Isidora's memory, they end up fighting again, because Sebastian realizes that Helena knew of a way to help Anne for months and didn't tell him. She comes back with "you only care about me because I can help Anne," and in the midst of their argument, they confess their feelings for each other.
That's when they finally get to together, and officially start courting.

Umbrella Academy Season Three Thoughts
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
TW MENTIONS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AND GORE
Okay, my friends! Let's get this show on the road! I woke up at about 5:40 this morning to watch this season and I finished it by about 1:30. So, what did I gain from this binge? We'll find out!
Let's start with the Sparrows...
We came into this thinking that they were going to be bullying our precious brellies throughout the entire season. However, most of them disappeared after episode three, I believe. There was almost nothing that was gained from that- it's almost at the point where they didn't really have to incorporate the Sparrows at all. There was no point!
The Ben arc was interesting, but not fascinating enough. I just feel as if it could've been executed much better; the creators are on point with almost everything in this show, it's just the execution that pisses me off.
Despite this, their interactions with the Umbrella Academy were most definitely not flat. However, I do believe this is because of the lack of loyalty both groups lack. This disappointed me considering the amount of growth everyone had underwent in season two; the only ones who did not regress in some way or another would be Luther, Diego, and Klaus.
Okay, now onto our babies
I AM IN LOVE WITH NEARLY EVERY ONE OF THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY MEMBERS.
The show really screwed the pooch with Allison this season, though. And while I understand that she has gone through unimaginable trauma and disappointment, I also understand that does not equate to her s**ually a**aulting Luther.
However, on that point, while I will never forgive her for that, I will also focus on another point: she used her rumor for that. Like she had said at some points in this season, Claire and Ray were the only things holding her together. They became her humanity, her hope. They were the people who had her stop using her rumor, for one reason or another. Without Claire, without Ray, all of that was gone.
BUT IT'S ALSO THE FACT THAT SHE HAD FELT SHAME FOR WHAT SHE HAD DONE THROUGHOUT THIS SEASON THAT GIVES ME HOPE THAT SHE WILL BE RECEIVING ANOTHER REDEMPTION ARC FOR SEASON FOUR (hopefully).
OKAY...off the topic of allison because my heart is hurting.
Klaus. Klaus Klaus Klaus Klaus Klaus you adorable child of mine, I love you to the moon and back. Forever. Please. He was absolutely WONDERFUL this season!!! One thing I love about Klaus, is that he almost never fails to attempt to find the best in people. This includes Sir Reginald Hargreeves, the old bastard who has hurt him in unforgivable ways. He tried to see the best in the new timeline, he tried to hold out hope for Ben and for Reginald. However, it backfired on him but that just makes me love him more. You know? He didn't deserve it. He placed his trust in them, and only one of them didn't totally f him up for it.
Diego, my good sir, as much as I love Lila's aesthetic, she definitely just put me off of my rocker this season. At some points I love her, at others, I despise her. I kinda feel like you do now.
One thing I loved about Diego this season was how he stepped up. Even after finding out that Stan wasn't his child, he didn't back down from finding the kid. He continued to look with the same amount of artier (i think that's how you spell that). He adored that child, just like he clearly does with Lila and the baby on the way. Despite some of his more questionable choices in the final episodes (i.e. quit locking Lila in closets, Diego, she'll kick your ass for it), those decisions still show how much he cares for his family. It shows how much he will always love them and that's why I adore this show. Nearly always, these characters will always have to trust one another, and they will always have each other's backs in some ways, if not all.
OKAY NOW ON TO THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: Luther's romance with Sloane.
My initial thought was that it was incredibly rushed. It was rushed, and it was a disgrace, and it shouldn't have happened and the show would've been better if it hadn't. BUT, now that I've given it a few hours, I am beginning to think differently. BEFORE Y'ALL COME AT ME HERE IS MY REASON WHY: it was not love. It was puppy love that was spawned out of pure, sexual attraction.
It was teenage-like.
Luther and Sloane are reliving what they never got to have- they get to start over. It's showing how they are kind of progressing. They are acting on their more adult urges. Puppy love doesn't spawn over time, it's just there like a snap of the fingers.
Luther and Sloane literally just got married acting on that puppy love, which is another reason why Ben and Five were making faces during the announcement.
I can guarantee you, nearly everyone, save for Klaus because let's not lie he is a pure angel, thought it was ridiculous. They were just in it to support their siblings and to let loose before everything went to shit...even though it kinda went to shit while they were letting loose. Thanks for that, Five, my darling, you really do know how to fuck shit up while you're drunk even if it wasn't your fault...baby. baby. love you five ❤❤❤❤
I JUST LOVED THIS ROMANCE BECAUSE IT KIND OF GAVE ME HOPE, YOU KNOW? LUTHER IS MOVING PAST HIS...WELL, PAST INCLUDING ALLISON WHICH IS A HUGE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BECAUSE HE IS KNOWN FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO LET THINGS GO
Along with this, it brought the family together. And the one part that couldn't be fixed, people ended up trying to mend in some ways or others. Allison just did not have a good season, but hats off to Emmy-Raver Lampman because her acting was phenomenal. Truly, despite me hating how they threw Allison's character arc out the window, you have to admit, Lampman killed it this season. And in every season, really, it just showed more this time.
SO, IN SHORT, I HATE WHAT THEY DID WITH ALLISON AND THE LACK OF BONDING THEY HAD IN THE LAST FEW EPISODES
The Ending
This is going to be a short section, but I'm going to spit out my thoughts here anyway because damnit they're worth sharing before I get to my precious husband *dolores who?*, five hargreeves <3
So, to get on with the point, the ending pissed me off due to one thing: the siblings went their seperate ways, including five who still looks like a child (yeah, people aren't going to be asking questions then. just because he's in a suit, does not mean he still doesn't look like...16 - because he does look a little older, ya know?)
These siblings who have fought so hard to be with one another, to keep each other and the world alive just split. Just like...that? That's it? That's all they got?
And I get it: they totally fell apart this season; from each other, from their ideals, from what they held true, even from themselves. BUT THEY HAVE FINALLY, PHYSICALLY LEFT ONE ANOTHER ON THEIR OWN ACCORD.
There was no goodbye. There was nothing.
Five and Viktor were the only two left, and I can't say that the look they shared was two-sided, because Five picked up his thoughts and just...left. That may symbolize the last fuck he gave. He never gave up on his family. That might've been his breaking point, especially after the shit he'd just seen his family pull. He can't really trust any of them anymore, can he? But, then again, that may be for his section (ALONG WITH VIKTOR'S WHO IS COMING UP RIGHT BEFORE HIS TEEHEE)
Viktor
First of all, I'm loving how he spells his name because...yes.
Another thing I would like to address is how they handled Viktor's coming out. I personally think they did it well! I really think, considering all the emotional stunting in that family, they handled it well and gave it a warm reception (by their standards).
Diego literally made sure that Viktor felt loved. HE ASKED. HE WAS LIKE LUTHER WANTS TO THROW YOU A PARTY SO YOU FEEL LOVED DO YOU FEEL LOVED?
AND THE LITTLE SMILE ON VIKTOR'S FACE JUST MADE MY DAY BECAUSE YES HE DESERVES ANY BIT OF HAPPINESS HE CAN GET.
Another thing is the lying. The betrayals. His talk with Five. Those were just... *chef's kiss, though i do not approve of betraying your family*
I think that Viktor's character did regress this season, but not by that much so I can forgive it.
Five
Five has always been a pretty damn consistent character, and I have always been consistently in love with him. That's it. That's the shpeel.
I JUST WISH THEY COULD LET HIM BE RETIRED AND HAPPY LIKE YOU COULD SEE THE DEFEAT ON HIS FACE WHEN HE REALIZED THE KUGELBLITZ WAS A KUGELBLITZ BECAUSE HE WAS JUST...DONE.
He was just done with it all. He didn't want to go through another bullshit few days for no thank yous and more blame placed on him and his actions that were only done to save his family.
Like seriously, this man deserves so much more appreciation.
Also, can we talk about the scene with Dolores? THAT WAS HILARIOUS YET SO SAD. Hilarious, because of Jayme's faces made throughout and the animation, but sad because of the same things. and a little more...
like, can you imagine that? he missed her so much. he loves that god damn coping mechanism of his.
also, on the topic of love, to mister five hargreeves himself... i won't try and kill you in your sleep. i promise. i'll love you forever and won't try to kill you in your sleep...date me?
LIKE IMAGINE SEEING YOUR WIFE AND THEN HAVING THE OTHER PERSON WATCHING YOUR LOVE (WHO HAPPENS TO BE A MANNEQUIN, QUIT JUDGING JAYME) AND HAVE THEM BE LIKE... ARE ALL OF YOU PERVS?
THE ANSWER TO THAT IS ALMOST ALL OF THEM IN THEIR OWN WAYS, BUT THAT WAS TOO FAR DUDE TOO TOO FAR
okay, i'm going to be talking a bit more about him in the next section!
Questions Raised by this Season and Some Answers that are Probably Wrong
So, let's talk about the tattoo and the arm...
Five got his tattoo and had his arm severed by that guardian samurai of the hotel oblivion created by sir asshat hargreeves. He gained his hand back after escaping the hotel...so does that cancel out 100 year old five? does that force him to not found the commission? does that make him...not the founder anymore?
because now, he's...normal. traumatized terribly, but no one but his family and himself knows that. there's nothing to hold on to except each other.
so, that poses my question...does the commission no longer exist? or does someone else found the organization?
OKAY ONE MORE QUESTION
how the hell are they going to get their powers back?
and the last, i promise, but probably second most important question is...what was the jennifer incident? and how did sparrow!ben survive it?
thank you for coming to my ted talk that took me over an hour to type up
