For years, the people of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation watched over their waters and waited. They had spent nearly two decades working with Canada’s federal government to negotiate protections for Kitasu Bay, an area off the coast of British Columbia that was vulnerable to overfishing.
But the discussions never seemed to go anywhere. First, they broke down over pushback from the fishing industry, then over a planned oil tanker route directly through Kitasoo/Xai’xais waters.
“We were getting really frustrated with the federal government. They kept jumping onboard and then pulling out,” says Douglas Neasloss, the chief councillor and resource stewardship director of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation. “Meanwhile, we’d been involved in marine planning for 20 years – and we still had no protected areas.”
Instead, the nation watched as commercial overfishing decimated the fish populations its people had relied on for thousands of years.
Nestled on the west coast of Swindle Island, approximately 500km north of Vancouver, Kitasu Bay is home to a rich array of marine life: urchins and abalone populate the intertidal pools, salmon swim in the streams and halibut take shelter in the deep waters. In March, herring return to spawn in the eelgrass meadows and kelp forests, nourishing humpback whales, eagles, wolves and bears.
“Kitasu Bay is the most important area for the community – that’s where we get all of our food,” Neasloss says. “It’s one of the last areas where you still get a decent spawn of herring.”
So in December 2021, when the Department of Fisheries and Oceans withdrew from discussions once again, the nation decided to act. “My community basically said, ‘We’re tired of waiting. Let’s take it upon ourselves to do something about it,’” Neasloss says.
What they did was unilaterally declare the creation of a new marine protected area (MPA). In June 2022, the nation set aside 33.5 sq km near Laredo Sound as the new Gitdisdzu Lugyeks (Kitasu Bay) MPA – closing the waters of the bay to commercial and sport fishing.
It is a largely unprecedented move. While other marine protected areas in Canada fall under the protection of the federal government through the Oceans Act, Kitasu Bay is the first to be declared under Indigenous law, under the jurisdiction and authority of the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation.

Pictured: "In some ways, I hope someone challenges us" … the Kitasoo/Xai’xais stewardship authority.
Although they did not wait for government approval, the Kitasoo did consult extensively: the declaration was accompanied by a draft management plan, finalised in October after three months of consultation with industry and community stakeholders. But the government did not provide feedback during that period, according to Neasloss, beyond an acknowledgment that it had received the plan...
Approximately 95% of British Columbia is unceded: most First Nations in the province of British Columbia never signed treaties giving up ownership of their lands and waters to the crown. This puts them in a unique position to assert their rights and title, according to Neasloss, who hopes other First Nations will be inspired to take a similarly proactive approach to conservation...
Collaboration remains the goal, and Neasloss points to a landmark agreement between the Haida nation and the government in 1988 to partner in conserving the Gwaii Haanas archipelago, despite both parties asserting their sovereignty over it. A similar deal was made in 2010 for the region’s 3,400 sq km Gwaii Haanas national marine conservation area.
“They found a way to work together, which is pretty exciting,” says Neasloss. “And I think there may be more Indigenous protected areas that are overlaid with something else.”

Amin al-Husseini docu: part 3
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Last
A bit of background on Ezra Yachin, since the relevant parts of his life story are not really covered in the docu:
Tumblr media
He was born on June 11, 1928 in Jaffa, in Israel, back when it was under the British Mandatory occupation. His father was an Israeli Jew, descendant of a family who returned to Israel from Syria, while Ezra's mother was an Egyptian Jew, who moved to Israel after her marriage to his dad.
Not long after the marriage, the family moved to Jerusalem, first to the Old City, and later to Yemin Moshe (the Old City of Jerusalem became far too crowded, and Jews, who were the biggest of the 3 religious groups there at the time, started building new neighborhoods outside the Old City walls, now considered historically significant. The first was Mishkenot Sha'ananim in 1860, and Yemin Moshe was the second, in 1891).
Ezra was 1.5 years old during the 1929 anti-Jewish Arab riots, his family was besieged by an Arab mob, and it hid in one room, but then baby Ezra started crying. The mob heard the baby's sobs, and started breaking in, but then one of the rioters threw a rock at the window, which missed its target and ended up bouncing back from the wall, injuring the man who threw it. The mob got scared, evacuated the injured rioter, and dispersed. Later, a mob gathered again outside the family home, but then an old Arab woman shouted that it was a waste of time going after the poor Jews of this neighborhood, and she led the mob away, to where she claimed she knew the rich Jews live.
At the age of 15, Ezra joined one of the 3 Jewish undergrounds, the Lehi, and his tasks were to glue the underground's posters to the walls of homes around Jerusalem, as well as to try and get intel about the British from his work at the postal office. His friend, 17 years old Alexander Rubowitz, was kidnapped by British police on May 6, 1947 when caught on his way to glue posters for the underground. He was taken by car to the Yehuda desert, and murdered there. His body was never found, but there is a confession from his murderer, Captain Roy Farran, which was ignored by British authorities. Ezra's testimony can be heard in a documentary about Alexander, A Mandate to Murder (currently only available online in Hebrew). This is an underground poster asking where is Alexander Haim Rubowitz:
Tumblr media
Ezra fought in Israel's Independence War, including in the "Death Rooftop" battle for the Jewish Quarter, during which he sustained an injury to his right eye, and a shrapnel penetrated his skull. He was rushed into a surgery that lasted almost a full day, during which his cerebrospinal fluid continuously leaked out. He miraculously survived and made a full recovery, other than losing his eye.
He still lives in Jerusalem, and over the years has published 10 books, including Death in Chains, about the Jewish underground members who were killed by the British without a trial.
In Oct 2023, he volunteered to serve in the army again at the age of 95, becoming Israel's oldest reservist ever.

Twitter promotes hatred against transgender people, furries, therians
Summary: Since buying Twitter, Elon Musk has been pushing the platform into fascist politics by either manually or algorithmically suppressing LGBTQ content, welcoming back neo-nazis who’d been banned, and boosting hate speech. This Pride month, he used the platform to promote a stream of an anti-transgender movie, What Is A Woman? (2022). The movie attempts to ridicule transgender people by comparing them to other groups, so it contains misinformation about furries: the litter box urban legend again. It also had an interview about therianthropy with Naia Okami, who rejected therianthropy again a few months afterward. The free stream gathered more than 62 million views that day, so it will be how many people first heard of furries or therians. Twitter keeps getting worse for marginalized groups, and now for furries and therians too. If you and your friends haven’t already migrated away from the nazis-and-transphobes site, we have advice on how to move to safer alternatives: Mastodon, Tumblr, Discord, Dreamwidth, and forums. We also have advice on media literacy skills, how to recognize nazis and transphobes on social media, how to guard against this happening in the future, how to support transgender rights, and some options for what to do with your Twitter when you leave. At the end of this article, we have a timeline of events that happened in this story.
--
Musk promoted an anti-transgender movie
Since last October, billionaire Elon Musk has owned Twitter, a social media site with 450 million users. He started June by pinning his quote retweet of an anti-transgender movie. He remarked, "Every parent should watch this." The movie is What Is A Woman?, by Daily Wire columnist Matt Walsh. The Daily Wire invited everyone to stream the 95 minute movie for free. It is a propaganda piece that uses misinformation to oppose the existence of transgender people. Until then, the movie had been behind a paywall. Media Bias Fact Check describes the Daily Wire as a right-wing news and opinion site that has medium credibility. The civil rights nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hate Watch has called Walsh and his boss “peddlers of fear and disinformation about LGBTQ people” (Wilson, Nov 22, 2022). Musk has been known for his transphobia since before he bought Twitter (Garofoli, San Francisco Chronicle, Dec 13 2022). NBC reported that the Daily Wire’s CEO and other anti-transgender influencers such as Robby Starbuck had demanded for Musk to make the site stop suppressing the movie for its hate speech. Musk complied. Walsh, who had released the movie in June last year, said “What a great way to ring in Pride Month.” (Tolentino and Ingram, NBC, June 2, 2023).
What is that movie, and why is it so harmful?
The movie’s title refers to how they spend the movie interviewing various people about what a woman is, with the goal to discredit the validity of transgender people. Matt Walsh and Justin Folk had a bad enough reputation that no transgender people or allies would willingly appear in their movie, so they tricked people into showing up. They founded a front group called the Gender Unity Project LLC, and used a registered agent to mask their connection to it. Their producer used a fake name when reaching out to people to interview. They advertised the movie and LLC to potential interviewees as being “about transgender and LGBTQIA+ communities, and the challenges they face in today’s culture” and that it would “[explore] the real lives of people in the LGBTQIA+ communities, and to shed some light on the topics of gender identity, and gender fluidity, in a way that will capture the attention of all Americans and be educational.” Transgender rights activist Eli Erlick discovered they were not who they seemed, and exposed them immediately.
The movie intentionally misrepresented and disparaged a variety of professionals and transgender individuals who Walsh misled into interviewing with him. He used deceptive editing and ambush interview tactics to make it look like the interviewees were either in complete agreement with his hateful perspective, or were contradicting themselves and didn’t make sense. He used the movie to push false claims about transgender people, including trying to connect transgender identity to sexual predation and implying that transgender individuals will regret transitioning or that transitioning is dangerous.
Far-right director Robby Starbuck plans to release a similar movie this summer, titled “It Takes a Village.” This will also be a hateful propaganda movie opposing the existence of transgender people. Starbuck, like Walsh, lied about the movie goals to potential interviewees. Erlick caught and exposed this trick even earlier than the last one. Starbuck’s team members misrepresented the project as “highlighting gender affirming care and the issues facing trans youth.” Erlick believes that Starbuck may have planned to arrest her should she have agreed to fly to Tennessee for the offered interview.
How did this movie misrepresent furries and therians?
A common illogical argument that bigots use to criticize LGBTQ people sounds something like this: “If we let women marry one another, then wouldn’t it be just as absurd if we let people marry animals? If someone can identify as a woman, wouldn’t it be just as absurd if someone identifies as an animal?” Walsh used that tactic in his picture book Johnny the Walrus. Walsh’s movie has segments about furries and therians, in an effort to say that saying you are a woman is as absurd as saying you are an animal.
In one segment in the movie, Walsh interviews Sara Stockton, a family therapist. She incorrectly tells him that furries have demanded litter boxes in schools. Reuters Fact Check has an article that debunks that part of the movie. It’s well-known to be an urban legend that has never happened in any school. Conservatives have circulated it for the past few years to satirize transgender students asking to use the restroom of their choice. An alterhuman community historian did a presentation about how the legend has developed (House of Chimeras, 2022). The legend is why a few of this year’s hundreds of anti-transgender bills in the US say they also oppose people who identify as animals. Those are Montana Senate Bill 544, North Dakota House Bill 1522, Oklahoma Senate Bill 943, and Indiana Statehouse Bill 380.
In the next segment, Walsh interviewed Naia Okami. Okami has frequently sought and accepted media publicity for the past decade, even with producers her peers advised her to avoid (Okami, Oct 18, 2022). Around the same time as when she interviewed with Walsh, she accepted interviews with two other far-right media known for their hostility toward openly transgender people such as herself: The Sun (Jan 23 2022) and Fox News (Feb 7 2022). In these three interviews, she described herself as a wolf otherkin and therian. When Walsh tried to get her to describe herself as transspecies, she “vehemently rejected” that, so Walsh didn’t use those parts of the interview in the movie (Okami, June 5, 2022). (Okami has never called herself transspecies, and had spoken against the word for years.) Instead, against her wishes, he referred to her as a “trans wolf,” a label that she never used and which makes her “want to vomit” (Okami, June 8, 2022). A few months after the movie came out, she announced that she no longer calls herself a therian. She said, “I will always be a wolf girl; but I am not nor do I want to be … a member of the alterhuman, therianthropy, or otherkin communities” (Okami, Oct 18, 2022).
Like many of the other interviewees, Okami has explained how she was interviewed under false pretenses by a producer who used an alias. She shared records of her correspondences with the producer. She was not aware that Walsh would be the one interviewing her. He asked “intentionally provocative and leading questions.” She was looking into taking legal action, because the movie used the appearances of herself and others without informed consent (Okami, May 21, 2022).
By the end of the day, Musk’s promotion of the free movie on Twitter had caused it to have more than 62 million views (Tolentino and Ingram, NBC, June 2, 2023). This may be how most people in the world first hear of anything like otherkin, therians, furries, or transspecies identity. This may contribute to more widespread attitudes that are misinformed about and hostile toward these groups.
Musk’s Twitter welcomes fascists while suppressing LGBT speech
Musk has a history of supporting antisemitic and fascist ideology and espousing anti-LGBT rhetoric. One of Musk’s first actions when he bought Twitter was to share an anti-gay conspiracy theory published by a right-wing news source about the October 2022 attack on Paul Delosi. Twitter under Musk rolled back content policy protections for the site’s transgender users. He has also been known to quote Nazis, has reinstated the Twitters accounts of multiple neo-Nazis who were previously banned for hate speech, and has transferred his Twitter CEO title to a former Trump appointee. On Transgender Day of Visibility, users noticed that Twitter’s algorithm flags tweets for sensitive content if they contain the words LGBT, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, trans, queer, gender identity, pronouns, or TERF. Meanwhile, it doesn’t flag the words gender critical (which is what many transphobes prefer to call themselves), Nazi, fascist, or fascism. The algorithm’s source code shows that it’s designed to suppress and hide tweets that contain external links, misspelled words (as happens when users to try to get around suppressed words), and all mention of Ukraine. If you wanted to stand your ground and use Twitter to speak up for good causes, that’s exactly what it makes sure nobody will hear.
Musk vows to criminalize transgender healthcare
Musk pushes his anti-transgender attitudes in more places than just in this platform he owns. He vowed that he will be “actively lobbying to criminalize” gender affirming care in individuals under the age of 18. He supports long-term imprisonment without parole for anyone who supports or assists in such care, including therapists (Thakker, New Republic, June 2, 2023). He can wield unmatched influence over politics because he is the world’s wealthiest person at more than $100 billion dollars (Toh, CNN, May 31, 2023).
What you can do
Leave Twitter and bring your friends. Musk, and the platform he has through Twitter, is a threat to our civil rights and our lives. Twitter is not a safe place to be, because it is increasingly being turned into a fascist platform. As long as you’re there, you’re handing money to fascists, even if you’re not paying a subscription (Solarbird, April 23, 2023). You can’t fight the normalization of fascism by continuing to contribute to a fascist space (Solarbird, Dec 7, 2022). If you work for free to be a content provider for Twitter, then you are supporting fascism. Remember a German proverb: “If one nazi sits at a table, and ten other people sit there talking with him, that’s a table with eleven nazis.” It will become harder to avoid sitting and talking with Nazis on Twitter, because Musk says he will get rid of the option to block users (Ngo, Washington Times, June 8, 2023). Many users have been migrating away from Twitter. We strongly advise that you do so as well, and help your friends migrate, too. You must, to protect your friends, and to quit supporting the normalization of fascism.
Follow relevant news, and sharpen your media literacy skills. Whenever a friend shares a news article with you, see what Media Bias Fact Check says about that news source, and see what Reuters Fact Check and Snopes have to say about its content. Avoid boosting or interacting with transphobes and nazis on social media by learning how to recognize their characteristic jargon and the “dog whistles” that they use to signal themselves to one another. See the Anti-Defamation League’s encyclopedia of hate group symbols. Here’s a list of dog whistles racists and nazis use, ones transphobes use, and more that transphobes use. We recommend following Solarbird’s Fascism Watch blog post series, where she has been keeping track of news about the rise of transphobia and fascism, with an eye on its rise on Twitter. If someone contacts you for interviews or media projects, your job is to research them and their previous work before you agree to anything. Document everything. If they turn out to be exploitative, spread the warning fast. Take some notes from how Erlick does it.
Donate to good causes and support marginalized peoples. Some reputable organizations that support LGBTQ people and their rights are The Trevor Project, GLAAD, Mermaids, Human Rights Campaign, and National Center for Transgender Equality, or other civil rights organizations, such as  The American Civil Liberties Union. Be cautious about sound-alikes that impersonate good organizations, and use Charity Navigator to check their backgrounds. Boost and donate to your friends’ personal fundraisers for their health, legal expenses, and moving expenses. Donate to the social media platforms that you prefer, so they can afford to keep going. Support and mutual aid means more than just sending money to the right places. Listen to your friends who are LGBTQ or members of other marginalized groups. Educate yourself.
Mastodon is a better Twitter
What is Mastodon? From the perspective of a user, Mastodon looks and behaves very similarly to Twitter. If you’ve used TweetDeck or other front-ends for Twitter, then Mastodon’s layout will look familiar. Users can create short posts, use hashtags, boost other people’s posts, and follow one another… even if those other people are on different Mastodon servers. Each Mastodon server is independently run, and has its own rules and moderators. These servers communicate with one another via the Fediverse, an interconnected network of servers. This is similar to how you can use a Gmail account to send an email to someone on a Yahoo account: they’re on different servers, with their own rules and owners, but they can communicate with one another. This decentralization protects against the owners or users of a particular server being able to ruin the whole thing for everyone.
How do you sign up on Mastodon? Click on a server in the below list of ones that we recommend, and then click “create account.” If it says an invitation is required to create an account, ask a friend for one from that server, or try another server. Don’t get overwhelmed trying to choose the perfect server before you begin. After all, you can use it to talk to people on any other servers, if its moderators haven’t chosen to block those particular servers. If you join a server, and then you don’t like its rules or moderators after all, or if the culture there goes bad, then you can move to another server, automatically bringing your follow list with you. You can carry on your Mastodon experience without a pause and without getting stuck with moderators you distrust. We recommend these servers to our readers because they’re LGBTQ friendly, welcome various sorts of alterhumans, are opposed to hate speech, and are open to new users, though some require an invitation. They’re owned and maintained by ordinary hobbyists and volunteers who care, not corporations or evil billionaires. Later, consider chipping in a little money to support your favorite server, if they offer that option.
https://awoo.space - This server “isn’t aimed at any specific audience, though there are a lot of queer furries here for some reason.”
https://bark.lgbt - This server *is* aimed at queer furries.
https://beach.city - Lightly themed around the cartoon Steven Universe.
https://chitter.xyz - For furries.
https://dragonscave.space - This dragon-themed server is especially for users who are visually impaired.
https://equestria.social - For fans of My Little Pony. The moderators speak French as well as English. (By the way, you can find servers in whatever languages you want, which is great for immersion language learning.)
https://meow.social - For furries.
https://plural.cafe - For plural systems.
https://plush.city
https://tech.lgbt
https://weirder.earth - Moderator team includes people who are POC, LGBTQ, and plural. Good track record at standing up to racism.
How do you make friends and find interesting blogs to follow on there? No algorithm plays matchmaker for you. We use hashtags, which is the only part of a post that shows up in a search. Usually people put hashtags that describe themselves and their interests in their #introduction post to help find others who share those interests.
How do you stay safe on there? Anyone with technical proficiency can create a Mastodon server and use it for good or bad. However, the Fediverse’s very design makes it easy for you to avoid the bad. Some Fediverse servers say they prohibit hate speech, but have been disappointing at enforcing that. Their moderators are overwhelmed, and unfamiliar with the needs of BIPOC, so racism goes unchecked. Those are widely-recognized problems with the servers mastodon.social and mastodon.online, so we don’t recommend joining those ones. Some Fediverse servers choose to allow hate speech, such as BlueSky. If you join a server that blocks problematic servers such as these, then those entire servers won’t be able to communicate with your server at all, period. Think of the story of the nazi bar: if a bartender lets in just one customer who wears nazi insignia but is polite, then that customer will come back with his nazi friends, everyone else will leave, and it will have become a nazi bar. A bartender who doesn’t want to accidentally find himself running a nazi bar has to prevent that from happening by kicking out even that one polite nazi. The Fediverse uses the nazi bar phenomenon against the nazis. Bigots and those who welcome them get isolated into their own space, and out of yours. By blocking entire servers because they have nazis there, your own server becomes something like Twitter without the nazis (Solarbird, Nov 6, 2022).
Mastodon has another safety feature: built-in content warnings. There is a widespread requirement to CW for content that is sexual, disturbing, or a spoiler. Followers will only see what’s beyond the CW if they click to open it. That’s good consent culture, and it makes Mastodon less stressful to scroll through than Twitter. In your settings, you can also filter out posts that use words that you don’t want to see at all.
Tumblr is great if you liked retweeting
What is Tumblr? Tumblr is a social media site that hosts 572 million blogs. It’s less similar to Twitter, but it does have a feature like retweeting, called reblogging. Even better, you can add tags to what you reblog, so you can categorize and later find things you’ve reblogged. That makes Tumblr an ideal platform for circulating fandom content, art, and memes.
How do you sign up on Tumblr? You can sign up on Twitter with just an email address, without sharing other personal information. Tumblr allows for users to have one primary blog, and as many side blogs as they want. You can customize the appearance of your blog using HTML and CSS. On desktop, install the browser extension xKit Rewritten and play with its settings to improve your experience of Tumblr.
How do you stay safe on Tumblr? You can curate your experience with blocking and filtering. Use tags to give content warnings, which others can use to filter your posts, and view them only if they consent to see that content. For that to work, don’t censor words. You can hide posts that use certain words, which helps you filter out posts from users who hate LGBTQ. Here’s a guide for how to do that. And another guide with screenshots for how to do that in the settings, and another guide. On desktop, install the third-party browser extension, Shinigami Eyes, which often helps warn you that a Tumblr account is known to express anti-transgender views.
How do you make friends and find interesting blogs on Tumblr? Tumblr tags are great for that. Use this web address, and replace the word “food” with some other key word for any topic that interests you: https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/food?sort=recent It will show you the most recent posts that people have tagged with that word. The accounts you follow will often reblog from other users, and you can use those as leads to find other interesting blogs.
Discord has many ways to communicate
What is Discord? Discord is a combination of many forms of communication in one. It supports group chat rooms, private messaging, voice calls, video calls, and streams for both one-on-one direct messages and for groups. It isn’t similar to Twitter at all, but it’s fantastic for talking with friends and meeting new people. All Discord servers are all required to follow Discord’s Community Guidelines, which bans hate speech, harassment, and violent extremism. Many plural systems enjoy using a bot on Discord, PluralKit, which lets you create something like separate accounts for each of your system members, without having to sign in and out.
What servers might you join? Discord allows for the creation of servers based around specific interests and groups of people. Servers can be tight-knit private groups, or huge public groups, or anything in-between. Most servers have a specific theme or focus that they adhere to. There are some excellent servers about being alterhuman. Ask your friends for recommendations and invitations to these and other servers.
Dreamwidth.org is the best social blog site
What is Dreamwidth? Dreamwidth is a social blogging platform based off of code from Livejournal. If you used Livejournal long ago, Dreamwidth will feel like home. If you’ve only used Twitter or Tumblr, you can adapt to the differences soon enough, because it has an especially well made FAQ. (Here is a collection of more info about how to use Dreamwidth, written for people who are more accustomed to Tumblr.) Dreamwidth focuses on creating your own original content and interacting with other folks’ original content in personal blogs and in “communities,” which are group forum blogs. Dreamwidth’s design is ideal for long pieces of writing, serialized works, and conversation threads. Because of this, many blogs that are especially active on Dreamwidth today are those that focus on fan fiction, role play, personal diaries, and essays, but you can put nearly any kind of subject matter there.
How do you join Dreamwidth? On the front page of Dreamwidth.org, click “create free account.” (Paying a subscription to help support the site will give you a few perks, but a free account is just as functional as a paid one.) Make up a username. Tell your email address and birthdate, which you can keep private in your profile settings. You can customize the appearance of your blog. We strongly recommend you use Solarbird’s theme that makes your blog mobile-friendly.
How do you find friends and interesting blogs on Dreamwidth? You can discover more blogs that focus on things you like by adding a list of interests to your profile, searching for others who put those interests in their profiles too. You can look at the Latest Things (the newest posts and tags by all users). You can also use Dreamwidth to follow the news! Dreamwidth has a built-in RSS feed reader, so you can use it to subscribe to content from other sites. Many sites offer RSS feeds: major news sources, comics, subreddits, Tumblr blogs, AO3 tags, and more. YsabetWordsmith regularly features interesting active communities in her FollowFriday tag. For the alterhuman readers of our blog, we recommend joining these communities:
Dreamwidth_therians: A members-only group for therians and otherkin.
Fictionkind: A members-only group for fictionfolk to discuss their experiences based on prompts.
Otherkin: A public group for otherkin.
Otherkin_haven: A members-only group for otherkin.
OtherkinNews (that’s us!): A volunteer-run blog for sharing news for otherkin, therianthropes, fictionfolk, plural systems, and all sorts of alterhumans.
PluralArchives: Citations of plural and pluralish phenomena collected in one place.
PluralStories: A searchable catalog of plural and pluralish stories.
TheriThere: A comic about therianthropes and otherkin.
Forums make great community spaces
If you simply want a place to talk with friends about shared interests, consider web-based forums. Each forum has its own rules, moderation teams, and features. Search for forums that are built around your fandoms or other interests. We recommend these for alterhumans:
Alt+H Forums: A quiet forum hosted by Alt+h, a nonhuman advocacy group. It is about alterhuman experiences as a whole.
Draconity: A forum focused on dragons specifically. It had a site-wide update in 2022.
Draconic: This forum for dragon otherkin has been running continuously since 1998.
Nonhuman National Park: A forum focused on inclusion and intersectionality of nonhuman, alterhuman, and plural identities.
What do you do with your Twitter after you leave?
Some people choose to delete their Twitter account completely. This erases all their tweets and connections to other users. Any conversation threads with this user will have pieces missing. That can interfere with other users’ archival efforts. Erasing your tracks that thoroughly can also make it difficult for your friends and followers to discover where you disappeared to and why.
If you don’t want to delete the account altogether, then sign into it once every 30 days, to prevent it from getting automatically deleted for inactivity. You don’t need to post anything: just sign in (Twitter, inactive account policy). Some people use a third-party tool to automatically delete all or most tweets. Removing content from the site is a good way to withdraw support from it. However, some users report that their deleted tweets come back later.
Should you leave your account public, or set it to “protected”? That status makes it so all your tweets, followers, and followed users can only be seen by users who you manually accept as your followers. Pros: this mostly prevents unwanted interactions or follows from random users, while leaving behind a signpost to let your friends know where you disappeared to and why. Cons: privating can interfere with others’ efforts to archive conversation threads just like if the account had been deleted. Archival tools can only pick up your tweets if they’re public. -- Appendix: A timeline of events related to this article
2022 January. The Gender Unity Project, LLC, invites transgender people and allies to interview in a movie. Meanwhile, Okami has interviews in The Sun, and UK breakfast TV show This Morning.
2022 February 7. Okami’s interview on Fox News. On the same day, Erlick publicly exposes that the Gender Unity Project is deceiving transgender people into interviewing with Walsh.
2022 March. Walsh publishes Johnny the Walrus, a picture book about a child being pressured to become a walrus, in parody of transgender children.
2022 May. Okami blogs a public statement about her involvement in What Is A Woman? with documentation of how they deceived her into showing up to it.
2022 June. Walsh releases What Is A Woman? Okami writes a detailed criticism of that movie.
2022 October. Okami announces that she no longer calls herself therian or otherkin. Musk buys Twitter and immediately posts an anti-gay conspiracy theory. He lays off thousands of employees, many crucial to the maintenance of the site software. He invites many users back to Twitter who had previously been banned for being nazis and white supremacists (Washington Post, Nov 11, 2022). Anticipating that Twitter will soon crash and/or become effectively a far-right site only, thousands of users leave or prepare to leave Twitter, filling their profiles and pinned tweets with links to where to find them on other social media sites.
2022 December. To discourage this, Twitter introduces an algorithm that prevents users from putting links to other social media sites in their profiles, and threatens to ban users for doing so.
2023 March and April. Users notice that Twitter’s algorithm suppresses tweets that contain external links, misspelled words, or mention of Ukraine. It suppresses LGBT related words, but not fascism related words. Twitter’s policy stops protecting transgender users against harassment. Even news agencies are quitting Twitter, such as NPR and PBS.
2023 May. To discourage this, Twitter starts banning accounts that have been inactive for a short amount of time.
2023 June. Musk quote-retweets and pins the Daily Wire’s free stream of What Is A Woman? The same day, he vows to lobby for the imprisonment of therapists who support transgender youth.

House GOP seeks billions in cuts to rail, water infrastructure spending
Two years after approving a bipartisan $1.2 trillion law, Republicans are looking to scale back spending that some in their own party previously supported
By Tony Romm and Ian Duncan
Updated July 18, 2023 at 12:12 p.m. EDT|Published July 18, 2023 at 6:00 a.m. EDT
It took decades for Congress to deliver on its promise to pour new money into the nation’s roads, bridges, pipes, ports and internet connections.
Now, House Republicans are trying to slash some of the same funds.
A series of GOP bills to finance the federal government in 2024 would wipe out billions of dollars meant to repair the nation’s aging infrastructure, potentially undercutting a 2021 law that was one of Washington’s rare recent bipartisan achievements. The proposed cuts could hamstring some of the most urgently needed public-works projects across the country, from improving rail safety to reducing lead contamination at schools.
Some of the cuts would be particularly steep: Amtrak, for example, could lose nearly two-thirds of its annual federal funding next fiscal year if House Republicans prevail. That includes more than $1 billion in cuts targeting the highly trafficked and rapidly aging Northeast Corridor, which runs between Boston and Washington, prompting Amtrak’s chief to sound early alarms about service disruptions.
In recent days, Republicans have defended their approach as a fiscally responsible way to reduce the burgeoning federal debt. They’ve largely tried to extract the savings by slimming down federal agencies’ operating budgets next year, technically leaving intact the extra funding that lawmakers adopted in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
But the effect would be the same: The GOP bills would reduce the federal money available for repairs. The cuts would come at a time when the country is grappling with the real-life consequences of its own infrastructure failures, from train derailments in Ohio and Pennsylvania to the collapse of a key portion of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia last month.
“I guess no one reads newspapers,” said Rep. Mike Quigley of Illinois, the top Democrat on the appropriations panel that oversees transportation and other key infrastructure programs. “When big infrastructure issues are blowing up in our face, we’re doing the opposite.”
They opposed the infrastructure law. Now, some in the GOP court its cash.
The emerging House battle underscores the massive chasm between Democrats and Republicans over the nation’s fiscal health, only weeks after the two parties brokered what was thought to be a political truce.
In a deal to stave off a potential first-ever federal default, Biden worked out an agreement with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in June to pursue modest voluntary spending caps on federal agencies and programs starting in the 2024 fiscal year. In exchange, Republicans permitted lawmakers to raise the debt ceiling, allowing the United States to resume borrowing money to pay its bills.
Even as Republicans touted that vote as a victory, however, some in the party’s far-right flank signaled they planned to continue the fight. They pledged to force Democrats to accept massive spending cuts through the annual appropriations process that funds the government — or risk a shutdown if lawmakers fail to act by the Sept. 30 deadline.
So far, the standoff has largely simmered behind the scenes. In recent weeks, Rep. Kay Granger (R-Tex.), the chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, has worked methodically to process a dozen funding bills, which McCarthy on Monday said he hopes to start bringing to the chamber floor as soon as next week.
In a sign of the acrimonious debate to come, each of the House appropriations bills features sharp spending cuts that Democrats vehemently oppose — even targeting some federal infrastructure programs that until recently had enjoyed bipartisan support.
Two years after Congress approved $55 billion to improve the nation’s water supply, for example, House Republicans last week proposed to eliminate $1.7 billion from the two primary federal sources for drinking water and wastewater grants to states.
Those programs had received supplemental funding as part of the bipartisan infrastructure act. Rather than undo that law, the GOP bill would dramatically reduce the initiatives’ annual budgets, compared with what they received in the 2023 fiscal year, while underfunding a slew of other federal water infrastructure operations. That includes two programs to help schools and low-income communities reduce lead contamination, which together could receive about $85 million less next year than lawmakers previously had authorized, according to an analysis of data released in January 2022 by the Congressional Research Service.
“I’ll be real honest with you: If you’re looking for a pretty bill, this is not it,” acknowledged Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), the chairman of the appropriations subcommittee that produced the proposal, at a hearing last week.
“Cutting funding is never easy and can often be an ugly process. … But with the nation’s debt in excess of $32 trillion and inflation at an unacceptable level, we have to do our jobs to rein in unnecessary federal spending,” he said.
After weeks of haggling, House appropriators are expected to finalize that bill this week. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine, the top Democrat on the panel, described the spending measure in a recent hearing as “one of the most harmful attacks on America’s efforts to tackle climate change.”
Congress approves $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, sending measure to Biden for enactment
The proposed cuts to infrastructure spending come at a time when new federal money has started to flow more rapidly. The White House estimates it has announced about $225 billion in awards under the 2021 law, which has benefited roughly 35,000 projects nationwide, a figure Biden has touted regularly as he tours the country to promote his economic agenda.
For both parties, the $1.2 trillion packagemarked a major achievement after years of false promises and jokes about botched “infrastructure weeks.” It took months of late-night negotiating sessions among a small group of moderate Democrats and Republicans before they could reconcile their competing visions about the size and scope of new federal spending.
Even then, though, lawmakers acknowledged their compromise addressed only a small fraction of the United States’ true needs. In its latest national report card, the American Society of Civil Engineers projected the nation faces a roughly $2.6 trillion, 10-year backlog in projects to repair the country’s roads, bridges, pipes, ports and internet connections — a gap about twice the size of the infrastructure law.
“There’s a lot of work to be done,” said Emily Feenstra, the chief policy and external affairs officer at ASCE. “We need every cent.”
Some of the greatest needs are in transportation, where House Republicans on Tuesday convened a hearing to finalize a 2024 spending bill that includes $6.6 billion in cuts. The spending reductions predominantly target transit and rail, while curbing Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s work to promote environmental and racial equity.
“This bill is another example of the real progress we’re making to reduce overall spending while funding our highest priorities,” Granger told committee lawmakers.
Amtrak would take one of the heaviest blows, potentially losing $1.5 billion in funding next year if the GOP plan becomes law. In a statement last week, Stephen Gardner, the passenger railroad’s chief executive, said such a cut would force Amtrak to “radically reduce or suspend service on various routes across the nation.”
Republicans would extract another $2 billion from a federal infrastructure program used to fund the construction of new transit lines. That could jeopardize a slew of projects now underway — including the Gateway tunnel system between New York and New Jersey, one of the largest infrastructure endeavors in the nation, which hopes to receive $7 billion to make urgently needed repairs.
The GOP bills also provide no new funding in 2024 for a series of grant programs that Republicans historically have supported. That would equate to a roughly $800 million cut from the initiative known as RAISE, which provides money to cities and states so they can construct bridges over rail lines, create new pedestrian paths and finance street redesigns.
The program is so popular the Transportation Department received $15 billion in requests last year, though the agency could award only 162 projects totaling $2.2 billion in funding in June. Some of those requests came from GOP lawmakers on the House Appropriations Committee: 17 panel members wrote the Biden administration in search of funds for dozens of local projects in 2022 and 2023, according to letters backing requests for funds that the department released to The Washington Post last week.
The members include Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa), who wrote in support of five RAISE applicants in her state. Her office accused the Biden administration of “playing political games” in releasing the letters and said the congresswoman “will remain focused on bringing investments back to Iowa while reining in overall government spending.”
Biden, for his part, only sought in 2024 to fund the RAISE program at the level adopted under the infrastructure law. But the president did request — and Republicans ultimately denied — $1.2 billion in new money for infrastructure megaprojects. That would have included funds for the long-sought overhaul of the Brent Spence Bridge between Ohio and Kentucky and the Calcasieu River Bridge, which carries Interstate 10 in Louisiana.
In an early hearing last week, the top Republican overseeing transportation spending — Rep. Tom Cole (Okla.) — defended the bill as one that “meets the challenge before us to reduce spending and get our debt under control.”
On Tuesday, he added of the fierce debate to come: “These things tend to start out in one place. They always tend to end up some place else.”
Taken from The Washington Post because this shit is too important to put behind a paywall. Link is in the title.

Hello again! So, I'm not sure if you're ok with this type of request but I didn't find anything that says otherwise. As a "sober" SH myself, I'd like to see Eddie x Femreader that has a lot of self-harm scars. Like, her entire arms are covered with it and other people stare, points at her, and so on.
I just want you to know that I'm so glad you're no longer hurting yourself. You should be proud of yourself for overcoming so much, and I'm so glad you're here.
I hope this fic is cathartic for you. I know I wish I had an Eddie Munson by my side when I was struggling <3
Warnings: mentions of self-harm (please do not read if this is triggering for you), scars, bullying, language

It's sweltering today in Hawkins, 95 degrees and humid. Unreasonably warm for June, in your opinion. You crank the air conditioning in your car on your drive to school, but Hawkins High is stuffy and stifling.
It also doesn't help that you're wearing a denim jacket, not as some kind of fashion rebellion, but to hide the scars that line your arms. You'd started back in middle school after enduring day after day of bullying, desperate for an escape. Now, years later with countless therapy sessions under your belt, you've acquire safer coping mechanisms. Unfortunately, journaling or curling up with a book and a cup of tea didn't make the scars disappear.
They'd faded slightly, but were still too pink and prominent for your comfort, so you chose to keep them covered when you were in public. But now, as sweat dripped down your neck and crept down your back, you're seriously reconsidering your position.
Taking a deep breath, you carefully remove the jacket and tie it around your waist. Okay, this isn't too bad, you think, making your way through the cafeteria to the lunch line. You reach for a slice of pizza when you hear it:
"What the fuck is on your arms?"
Your head snaps up at Jason Carver's sneering voice. How ironic, considering he was one of the bullies who made you feel like you'd had to cut in the first place. He's said it loud enough that some students are turning around to stare. And even though it's only a few people, it feels like the world has its eyes on you as you as you run right back out of the room, tears brimming.
One of those people is Eddie Munson, standing shell-shocked at the vending machine nearby.
You'd developed something between an acquaintanceship and a friendship over this past year after you'd joined Hellfire in an attempt to be more social. He was funny, and sweet, and was a really good Dungeon Master. The reason you weren't closer was because you were worried about letting people get close to you. The more knowledge they had about you, the more they could hurt you with.
You duck into the library and hide behind a bookshelf in the non-fiction section, curling up into yourself and crying as softly as you can. The last thing you need is the librarian marching over and shushing you in the middle of a panic attack.
Deep breaths, you remind yourself. Inhale for three, exhale for three. Your therapist would be so proud, you wryly think.
You wipe the tears from your cheeks as you practice your breathing exercises, so focused that you don't even notice the lanky metalhead sit down beside you.
"Hi," he whispers, and you gasp, bringing a hand to your chest. "Sorry," he apologizes with a small smile, "just wanted to check on you."
"I-I'm fine, Eddie," you've never told such a blatant lie; unsurprisingly, he doesn't buy it.
"You're crying in the cookbook section of the library. You are not fine." He scoots over so his shoulder grazes yours. "C'mon, talk to your favorite Dungeon Master."
You give him a tiny giggle. "Who says you're my favorite?" you quip, and he sticks out his tongue in response. "Okay, okay. I'm just...humiliated," you admit. "It's bad enough I have to walk around with these..." you hold out your arm shyly, "but then Jason fucking Carver teasing me about them, like he isn't part of the reason they exist."
Eddie takes your arm and frowns. "You hurt yourself because of Jason Carver?"
You shake your head. "No. Well, not just him. Any of the popular kids who made fun of me, who ostracized me when I was younger. I had, like, no friends. Not an exaggeration."
Eddie's quiet for a moment, and you think you've freaked him out until he says quietly, "If I knew you then, I would've been your friend." He reaches over and squeezes your hand. "I keep trying to be your friend now, inviting you to the arcade with the Hellfire guys, but you always turn me down. The rejection kills me, sweetheart." He throws his head back and lets his tongue flop out of his mouth, miming his death.
You shove him playfully. "I'm sorry. It's just scary to let people in, y'know?"
"I know. Trust me, I know," he mutters, then clears his throat. "But we're good guys, I promise. I only look mean and scary." He looks back down at your arms, not in disgust, just observing them. "Do you still...?"
"No, not anymore. Sometimes I want to, but I just do my breathing exercises or write in my journal."
Eddie breathes a sigh of relief. "Good. I hate to think about one of my little sheep doing that to herself." This time when he squeezes your hand, he doesn't let go. "You have my number on the Hellfire contact sheet, right?" You nod, and he continues. "So call me whenever you're feeling sad. You can tell me about it, or I can just distract you with my exciting rockstar escapades."
"Thanks, Eddie," you say, feeling a warmth in your heart that you haven't felt in awhile. "Um, when's the next Hellfire arcade night?"
Eddie beams at you. "Whenever you want, sweetheart."

Hi again and happy Wednesday all! Thank you so much to everyone who tagged me last week; I really appreciate it & loved seeing what you’ve all been up to!
And Happy Birthday Simon Snow! Here’s a somewhat day-appropriate excerpt from my ongoing crucible marriage au, from Simon’s second day at good old Pitch Manor:
“So, no brothers and sisters. Just the Mage, more’s the pity. What else should I know about you, Snow? You weren’t at the last ceremony. When’s your birthday?”
Ah, fuck. There’s no way this isn’t going to be awkward. The date was written on my arm along with my name when my parents abandoned me, but I’m not going to tell him that. “It was...um. The 21st of June. Summer solstice, usually…”
“Yesterday. Your birthday was yesterday, Snow? Why in magic’s name didn’t you say anything?”
I shrug. “Your, uh, family didn’t really seem much in the mood to celebrate.”
“Well, I’d have liked to have known,” Baz says, scowling. It’s like the weather is echoing his mood, it’s gone right dark out all of a sudden.
“To be perfectly honest, it wasn’t foremost in my mind after the ceremony,” I snap. “Your aunt was furious and you—”
“I what, Snow?”
I squirm and try to pull my hand free. Baz resists for a moment but then lets go, and I cross my arms over my chest. Words are escaping me, as per usual. I shrug.
“Seven snakes, Snow.” He gives a long, slow sigh.
“Well, what would you have done if you knew, anyway? It’s not really a big deal.”
“It is to me! Crowley, I won’t have much excuse to forget from now on. Your birthday is the same day as our anniversary.”
“I guess I’ll be like one of those kids with Christmas birthdays now,” I say. As if Christmas or birthdays had been a thing in the homes, I don’t add. I don’t know what I’d do with myself if anyone tried to make a fuss. (That’s not fair. Penny did. She always had a small gift for me on those days, and a little cupcake with a candle on my birthday.)
“We’ll celebrate our anniversary the day before,” Baz says firmly, fixing me with a look I don’t think I’d dare challenge. “Solstice is sometimes on the 20th, anyway. Your birthday will get its own day, Snow.”
I don’t understand him at all, this easy way he has of swinging between remarks that cut straight to the bone and then, in the next instant...this. “Assuming we’re still married in a year,” I say, which is awful, but it’s not as though anyone here is pretending they’re not going to storm the Coven to tear us apart. I don’t want to think about that though, much less talk about it. I want things to be simple for once; I want the sort of uncomplicated life that everyone but me seems to get. Baz isn’t uncomplicated, but I feel like loving him might be. If we’re given the chance.
Tags under the cut! Have a great rest of the week, everyone!

Time travel and multiple universes
April 07 2024.
Time travel and multiple universes. Is it possible to travel through time or even to other universes? Yes. I have been doing both.
How is this possible? Tesla's device and the cowardice of Congress. When they murdered Tesla and stole both his device and papers it began a war of freedom. Freedom of choice. Freedom of life and the right to live one of one's choosing.
Until one of three events occur, I will make this a journal of a small fraction of experiences and devices' uses, without detail of construction of said devices. Congress is stripped of Tesla 's device and removed permanently. Two, we are sent to yet another universe or three, the planet is destroyed.
Not a pretty choice...the last, but when those murdered again and again, people like Challenger crew, Princess Diana, Paul Walker, for wanting freedom from control and Congress saving people like Sanjay Gupta, three of their own and Al Roker from deaths that were the results of their COVID-19 (June 2020) and a blood clot August 2019) reaching the heart, there must an end to their slavery, their desire to be a god must be done.
Tomorrow I must begin the process of creating a teleport. It is necessary in order to acquire funding for technologies to both aid in this war and, like many universes ago, open windows to hundreds of light years away...for exploring purposes.
End Entry.
April 08 2024
I really hate this body. Placing the obvious aside, with its medical problems, it tires very easily.
I didn't have as many low level resistors as I wished, so I am forced to take a "short cut"...as I label it. With the health issues of this body and lack of all necessary resistors, I have gotten the first teleport ready for soldering.
I am going to try to rest awhile. Maybe I will regain enough energy to solder and test it today.
Now, for those 'hooked' on time travel, I can give you information on what occurred, in the previous timeline, in regards to both the missing Sebastian Rogers and the two missing women whose car was found abandoned on Oklahoma 95 and Road L.
Will it be the same? I don't know. I can only say that my family and I are moving through universes and timelines more often now than ever before. Most recent move has been a short few months ago.
In the last, Sebastian Rogers was found hiding out near a farm...sometimes in a greenhouse at a school. He was fine. It was said that he was angry about not getting an expensive pair of shoes like a friend of his.
The two women? Before we were moved to this universe...this timeline, one was found dead on a farm. The other...the person has not been located at that time.
Again, this information was from one of many timelines, universes we have been in the last short few months. How many? I would say three to four.
My next device to be created, after the testing and, if need, if supplies permit, adjusting, will be the exterior planetary window.
It's rest time.
End Entry.
April 14 2024.
Wow! Getting old can be tiresome. Teleports. I did the math on several. It seems that between the poor battery, poor power cord of the phone and the many difficulties of this body, I seem to only labour half a day. Having said that, I have given a lot of thought to making teleportation available to the masses. My decision...is not yet.
I still need a means to make the environment more suitable for us. As result, I am going to use another part of the technology to solve both 'dead end' homicides and missing persons. How? Easy for me. I will begin, once paid and given the correct exact information, will open a door to the event and record it with either a cellphone or video camera.
Wait?! Proof...proof! Okay. I have calculated a well known death event... Nicole Brown Simpson. I calculated to open the door on the 20th of April.
I set this date in order to adjust the door to make it invisible from the target's view. When it recorded it I will post it by the next day. After posting, I will be finishing a website to launch to assist in gaining clients.
End Entry.
April 18 2024
I have been working hard today! Not on the door to save Nicole Brown Simpson...yet. That must wait until Monday, as long as my supplies last. I have three other devices that require attention first. - This is due to needing to teach some interfering retards a lesson for trying to interfere with our survival and my work.
I almost finished the first today. It will be complete tomorrow and the next will begin. I project, considering the idiocy I am currently having to deal with, that, should supplies last, I will be able to save her by Thursday of next week.
Tired...
End Entry
April 25 2024
I calculated the electron formation of the device for Nicole Brown Simpson murder too low. It will take me past the moment to get the door to open, so I must recalculate and reconstruct the device again. This will not happen until next month.
Why did I not give it the proper calculations in the first place? Simple, the higher the rate the easier it is to pass from one moment to another. In the last universe I did this, the person who committed the act of murdering them actually tried to pass through the door to use the very same knife to stab me in the stomach. Fortunately the rate was low enough to delay the teleport.
Well, I will be looking forward to next month. And the posting of the video.
For those of you who read this, believe in "time travel" then you have your masters in DC to thank for repeats though they're coming to an end.
End Entry

^ hopefully i explained correctly some random facts:
If we exclude the fanarts in which they were in the background
Dantdm had 16 fanart, Antoine 8, Kameto 7 and Pierre 4, Tazercraft had 31 for pactw and mike 25, without Tazercraft tag Pactw had 10 while mike 4 there is some tags for artists that are bigger than the amount of fanart for some of these cubitos
Take whatever you want with this data i just liked doing this after 4 months of this blog its amazing the amount of art that has come out ^-^

How San Francisco became a queer mecca
In 1848 the population of San Francisco was 800 people. The gold rush led to a population boom, and in 1850 the city had swelled to 35,000 people. These new residents were miners and fortune seekers, and over 95% of whom were young men. They also came from variety of nationalities and cultures.
This dramatic increase in population from diverse backgrounds, and a population that is fairly transient, contributed to a lawless environment where an ‘anything goes’ attitude prevailed. With the unbalanced gender ratio, social conventions about gender were also subverted. Many men took roles traditionally assigned to women. It became common for men to wear female clothing and for men to dance with men. This relaxed atmosphere also led to numerous cases of women dressing in men’s clothing in order to increase their stature.
As the city became established, crackdowns on the perceived anarchy were undertaken. Cross-dressing was outlawed in 1863 as part of anti-vice campaigns to restore public decency. As regulations increased, San Francisco's queer culture moved to the red-light district known as the Barbary Coast where bars, nightclubs, and entertainment flourished, along with same-sex prostitution and female impersonators.
During World War I & World War II, it became impractical to for the U.S. military to go through its full practice of convening a court-martial, imprisonment and dishonorable discharge for service members found to be homosexual or to have engaged in homosexual conduct. To expedite things during the wars, the U.S. Navy implemented a system of issuing an administrative discharge and offloaded these men at port cities, many were offloaded at Fort Mason in San Francisco.
This process of discharge wasn’t confidential, which meant they were now identified as “known homosexual,” and discharge would follow the men around. Consequently, many stayed in San Francisco where a community of gays was established. The LGBT community established itself in the neighborhood of North Beach.
Despite some raids targeting gay bars, San Francisco was considered relatively safe for queer people compared to other American cities due to its more permissive culture and an open gay culture that wasn’t underground.
The 1950′s beat culture in San Francisco was a rebellion against middle class values, which drew many who were part of non-mainstream cultures, including queer people. This concentration of gays and lesbians led to the founding of the Daughters of Bilitis (first lesbian civil and political rights organization in the United States) in 1955, and the Mattachine Society (an early national gay rights organization) moved their headquarters from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 1956.
In 1961, José Sarria became the first openly gay candidate in the United States to run for public office, running for a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Sarria didn’t win, but he received enough votes that it surprised political pundits and created the idea of a gay voting bloc in the city, and from then on, politicians in San Francisco running for office would knock on the doors of the gay community.
The first association of gay businesses, the Tavern Guild, was created by San Francisco gay bar owners in 1962 in response to police harassment and closing of gay bars. Other gay organizations formed in the city over the course of the decade.
The June 1964 edition of Life magazine included an article titled "Homosexuality In America" which is the first time a national publication reported on gay issues. The article described San Francisco as "The Gay Capital of America" and this inspired many gay people from around the nation to move to the city.
The 1969 Stonewall riots in New York inspired queer people around the country to fight for queer rights, San Francisco was the West Coast center for these activities. In the 1970′s, the queer community in San Francisco became more prominent and in November 1977, Harvey Milk was elected as the first openly gay politician in the city when he became a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Harvey Milk asked Gilbert Baker to make a symbol to unite the queer community and Harvey created the rainbow flag which first flew at the San Francisco Pride in June 1978.
When Milk was assassinated in November 1978, Harry Britt ran for office and became the second openly gay elected member of the Board of Supervisors. Britt wrote and passed domestic partnership legislation.
The AIDS epidemic began in 1981 and decimated San Francisco’s gay & bi community as about 20,000 people died within 15 years.
San Francisco continued to attract queer people and they created more organizations and started multiple queer publications. As awareness of transgender identities increased, the first Trans Pride march was held in San Francisco in 2004.
Also in 2004, San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom had city hall issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Couples traveled from all over the United States and from other countries to be married. This lasted only one month when it was ruled Newsom didn’t have authority to disregard state laws on marriage.
In 2007, Theresa Sparks, an openly transgender person, was elected president of the San Francisco Police Commission
Unfortunately for queer people in San Francisco and other parts of the state, in 2008 California voters passed Prop 8, a state constitutional amendment titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry Act. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated $20 million to campaign for its passage.
Same-sex marriages in California resumed in 2013 when the courts found that banning same-sex marriage violates equal protection under the law.

An introspective and thoughtful Mile and Apo discussing who they see reflected back at them in the mirror in this interview.
Koung: Is there any moment when you were looking at the mirror and the person looking back was not you?
both nod
Apo: There is.
Koung: What moment was that?
Mile: For me, there were two parts. The first one was when I acted. When I turned into a character, I didn't think that it's me. I'm still a human. I can't be that character 100%. But I didn't feel like myself at that moment, which is good. The second one was when I had to do some mission that society pressured us to do, until I lost myself, so there was a time when I looked into the mirror and I wanted to cry. It was the moment that I felt like there was no me. Frankly, I hate being unfaithful to myself. Between lying and not lying, we humans do lie. I sometimes do that. But being unfaithful to your goal is, I think, very torturous when we're forced to do so. I think being me as the second one, I don't want to be that person, but I've been through that from time to time.
Koung: Apo, looking at the mirror, have you ever seen another person reflecting back?
Apo: Yes, I have. When I was young, actually, a long time ago, I was told to do this, be like this and that. Being like that "was good", and because I was young, I didn't know if it's right or wrong. They were adults so I believed that it was good. I knew deep down, that it wasn't me. But I didn't know how to get rid of it. Everytime I saw myself, like P'Mile, I always wanted to cry. Nowadays, having a chance to go abroad and do things these days, and being surrounded with good people like P'Mile, I'm very happy to see myself today. The one I look in the mirror and see is me. I'll be sad if I can't be faithful to myself because I used to be one. Now I want to be as real as I can to myself in a positive way. And I want to be who I want to be, and do what I want to do. Be the most sincere to myself. This is what I always talk about in every show. Moreover, I've played a role in KinnPorsche and it talks about differences all the time; whether its love, life, everything, which is really beautiful. Just accept and be yourself, whether you're good or bad. I want to encourage people to love themselves as who they are, which I have always talked about.

a series of events
my experiment relies on the use of liquid nitrogen
we ran out of liquid nitrogen last week
we were supposed to get more delivered this morning
one of the delivery trucks left with all of the specialized tank dollies and would not be able to return until the end of the day
our delivery gets delayed until tomorrow
in order to not waste an entire day we decide to borrow some from an affiliated lab
on the way there it starts raining
we aquire the liquid nitrogen, stored in our small transport dewar
transport dewar is not pressurized, meaning the nitrogen gases off as it sits
nitrogen has no smell and is lethal if too much is inhaled so we store it in the trunk
we make it 95% of the way back to the lab before taking a turn a little too hard, causing the dewar to tip over and begin draining hard enough that we can hear it in the cabin
beloved coworker pulls over immediately so i can jump out and put it upright before we lose all of it or the trunk of her car freezes
she happened to have accidentally pulled into the entrance to the fire station
i jump out at max speed to minimize chances of getting hit by a fire truck
we are parked inside of a 2 inch deep puddle
i am wearing toms
i open the trunk
it is filled with nitrogen gas and extremely cold
the dewar fell onto the handle, meaning i had to grab the tank in order to right it
it is so cold i burn myself
we make it back to the lab without further incident
my shoes are soaking wet, but my boss always has 18 pairs of rubber sandals in his office so i figure ill just put on his sandals and put my shoes in the oven to dry
he took all of his sandals home on friday for some fucking reason
fuck it, ill just go barefoot and sit in the break room
put my shoes in the oven
wait 30 minutes
retrieve shoes
they are still soaking wet and now the oven smells like feet

Low-Cost Braces nearby - Best Invisible Teeth Braces
The buzz in dentistry is about invisible dental braces, and with good reason. Invisible dental aligners are becoming more popular, and they are quickly replacing the idea of having bulky metal braces to straighten teeth. Invisalign, or "invisible braces," are the product of recent developments in dental technology.
Tumblr media
The Invisible Line Braces are the most cutting-edge method of correcting teeth misalignments such as crowding, spacing, and unevenness. These braces cost Delhi, and are very affordable.
Ugly grins may now be readily corrected, opening the door to more attractive ones. You can tell braces for the teeth work since they're used for many dental problems.
True to their name, invisible dental braces are just as effective as their metal counterparts. In addition to being undetectable to the naked eye, their computer-designed precision guarantees that the teeth move perfectly and you reach your goal considerably more quickly. Not only do they not contain brackets or wires, making them significantly simpler to use, but they are also far more pleasant to wear than standard metal braces. Treatment with Invisalign or invisible dental braces typically lasts between 9 and 12 months. This is much faster than the treatment period required by braces made of metal or other materials.

** SNW episode 10 spoilers ahead!!**
.
.
.
.
First of all ADMIRAL PIKE!?!?! I love how they kept the uniform from the movies but added the little touch of the SNW texture
Ok now we gotta talk about Captain Kirk what did they do to him, that’s not my Captain Kirk. That is not what he looks like and he’s not nearly brash enough.
Anyway, putting aside my Kirk complaints, holy shit that episode was great. Being the massive Trekkie that I am I went and rewatched the episode that it was referencing as soon as I finished that episode. The amount of lines that the kept the same at the beginning of the episode is incredible, even some of the way Kirk moves around the bridge in tos is very similar to how Pike moves around the bridge in snw. Like y’all SNW clearly did it’s research and that makes my Trekkie heart very happy.

The Black Ring
Black ring Right middle finger A fuck you to Fucking anyone
It’s a physical reminder Something to rub When I feel Like an other Like I’m missing out That I’m too queer Or not queer enough It grounds me Reminds me I’m not alone
It’s a signal A way to let others know “Hey, you’re not alone” It’s subtle But powerful It’s simple But meaningful
It’s a piece of me I almost never take it off It represents a part of me That can’t otherwise Be seen and understood Even with the ring Only some people care To see and understand But I do and some do And that’s enough for me
Black ring Right middle finger A reminder A Symbol A part of me How I say “I’m Proud, Proud to be Ace.”

Queer as in Myself
Queer As in finally Myself Queer as in Confident and relieved Queer as in Free
I found My true self Within my queerness No more Seeing another person When I look In a mirror No more wondering If something is Wrong with me No more Endless confusion Queerness allowed me To finally be Me
I found A new sense of Confidence In my queerness A relief from Confining pressures Allowed me to be BOLD To show confidence In who I am Without fear Queerness showed me Strength I didn’t know I had In me
I found Escape In queerness A world Where I could Just be Queerness lifted me From unnecessary requirements And allowed me To Live My Life
Queerness has given me A home And a space to discover Who I am And for that I am Profoundly Grateful

Queer Poetry Collection
Trans Hate
Being trans comes with many joys, finally discovering yourself, finding people who understand you the euphoria of looking like yourself for the first time the pride in breaking the chains of the gender binary It also comes with some unavoidable pain not feeling like your body is your own living some of your life as someone you’re not your voice not sounding like you clothes never fitting quite right and some easily avoidable suffering like societal oppression being abused and made fun of just for living as our true selves being referred to by terms that aren’t your own
Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton Ron DeSantis, Joe Harding Ted Cruz, Donald Trump theses men do nothing to help instead they encourage the torment and through their positions of power they spread their harmful ideas transphobia snakes its way through the republican party spreading it’s tendrils through the darkest corners
Greg Abbott Ken Paxton and their long pointy nails ripping trans children from their parents drawing blood where lives could be spared blocking the pathways to happy healthier lives trans kids in Texas directly under fire trans kids everywhere can feel their pain
Ron DeSantis Joe Harding and their massive obnoxious mouths talking over anyone who’s different or odd running their mouths as if they’re better than the rest of us stopping children from sharing their stories or even learning that they are not alone other people feel that way it’s not wrong to be queer queerness should be celerbrated not erased from our vocabulary
Ted Cruz and his two sided hair cut viewed from one side he is a protector from the other side he is a transphobe one perspective buys into his tale of biological supremacy among children, kids who just want to play the other view point sees the evil forcing kids to hide their true self or leave the game that they love
Donald Trump and his blaring orange skin the bright color acts as a beacon calling similar minded people to his side gathering support for causes that deserve no recognition preventing people from serving their country because their gender doesn’t align with your expectations preventing brave men women and people from serving simply because of what’s in their pants
Six fallen saviors leaders turned corrupt they were supposed to empower the people they serve instead they terrorize them powerful people, political leaders they are supposed to guide the way to a better future not turn us around and send us back to bigotry oppression and hatred
It Hurts
“Women’s reproductive rights” “After a woman gives birth” “Her” “He or she” “Girls” “Ladies and gentleman” [Women’s room] [Men’s room] “Girl’s team” “Boy’s team” “Son or daughter” “Mom and dad” “Brother or sister”
Everyone pretends I don’t exist Everyone tries to deny my existence Everyone implies I’m not there Everything is structured to ignore my existence Every tradition pretends I’m not real
It hurts I try to hide it I shrug it off I ignore it I say it’s ok
But it isn’t Every Little Stab Hurts
I. Exist. Too. Just because I don’t fit Into your neat little boxes Doesn’t mean I’m not real Doesn’t mean you can just ignore me I have a uterus too I play on this team too I’m listening to your speeches too I exist in this world too
How about “Reproductive rights” “After a person gives birth” “Their” “They” “United” “Folks” [Bathroom] “Coach A’s team” “Coach B’s team” “Child” “Parents” “Sibling”
Just change a few words It’s not very hard And it can make a world of a difference It can make me feel seen and heard It can make me feel real It can make me feel like I have a place in this world Because I do Weather or not you care to acknowledge me I am here and I am queer
Transitional Years
Alone Scared What am I supposed to do What is gender How do I stay safe How do I explain these feelings What is going on inside me What is going on around me
I am so glad that time is over The fear The questioning The confusion No more hiding who I am just because I don’t understand it And I’m afraid the world won’t either No more hiding inside Afraid of the plague that’s taken over the world
I can be free now I can be myself I can be unapologetically myself I can be a normal kid
I’m never getting those years back Those 2 years spent hiding in the darkness of my room Or all the years before spent believing in a lie I lost my transitional years To a plague And to a different kind of transition
I went in one person And came out a totally new version of myself
New name New pronouns New perspective on the world
I’m not alone in my struggles, I wish younger me knew that Other people feel the way you do And everyone is there for you You don’t have to question alone It’s ok to let others know you’re confused and scared
I’m happy for my friends Who aren’t going through that alone I’m glad I can be there to support them To show them that they aren’t alone To show them the light at the end of the tunnel To be an example of a happy ending
I just wish younger me was that brave Younger me was too afraid of the unknown To admit to anyone else that I didn’t know Didn’t know who I was Instead of letting others help me to find myself I hid myself from everyone I hid myself from myself I denied who I am Because I thought I had to know To pick To tell everyone I thought I had to know who I was Before I could tell people who I’m not I thought I had to pick between Being truly myself And being a part of my team I thought if I told someone I would have to tell everyone So I chose hiding I chose the past I chose my team
Sure, it made me who I am But couldn’t have there been An easier path to this point? We’ll never know At least for now, I’m just happy to have made it here I hid away for 2 years And in the process I found myself I pulled back the coat of lies That I had been building up my whole life I eased out of it And I burned it The freedom I found Was well worth the pain That the path here caused I am myself And I am never turning back
The Queer Fight
Gay marriage was legalized In the united states Within my lifetime And I’m still in highschool

[long post, sorry, theres a tldr at the end but i really recommend reading the full thing if you can]
i really wish there was more like. narcolepsy awareness stuff in the world. that teaches people the actual symptoms and not just the stereotype. the amount of people i have talked to both online and in person about my experiences with narcolepsy who have been shocked at how much they related to my experiences is staggering.
narcolepsy is so under-diagnosed and also very often misdiagnosed as something else because so many people, even within the medical field, don’t know the actual symptoms of narcolepsy (i am not pulling this out of my ass, my sleep specialist has told me this several times. its a real issue that sleep specialists continue to battle to this day). up until relatively recently, the past 5-10 years or so, narcolepsy and other similar sleep disorders weren’t even considered real by a lot of the medical field!!
narcolepsy is not “falls asleep at random” disorder. narcolepsy is a disorder of sleep cycles, causing the brain to enter rem sleep much quicker and more frequently then it should.
this causes things like excessive daytime tiredness/chronic fatigue, extremely vivid dreams, sleep paralysis, hallucinations while waking up/falling asleep, and in the case of those with narcolepsy type-1, cataplexy (aka, while feeling intense emotions the brain will enter rem sleep while awake, causing muscles to lock up. this is where the “falls asleep at random” stereotype comes from, but the person experiencing it is not actually asleep, just unable to move their muscles. i can’t really speak more on this specific part of narcolepsy, since i have type-2, aka narcolepsy without cataplexy, this is just the basics i was told by my sleep doctors. EDIT: someone who experiences cataplexy has added their experiences in a reblog, if youd like to learn more please go take a look!!) [note: these are not the only symptoms of narcolepsy. not all people with narcolepsy will experience all of these symptoms, and everyone will experience them at different frequencies. for example, i only get sleep paralysis once every month or so, and my hallucinations tend to be limited to auditory] according to my sleep doctor, narcolepsy also has links to both adhd and chronic strep throat as a child (i have no idea how that last one works. but. thats what my doctor said and hey. she was right. i had chronic strep throat as a child and look at me now.) EDIT because i forgot to add: narcolepsy can not only co-exist with insomnia, but cause insomnia as well! excessive daytime tiredness --> more naps during the day --> harder time falling asleep at night
so yeah. i guess this is me doing awareness. if you relate to any of these symptoms, please talk to a sleep specialist if you’re able to. it might not be narcolepsy, but chances are it’s something, since none of these things are normal (to repeat, excessive daytime tiredness is not normal. that means there is something wrong). theres nothing wrong with asking a sleep specialist about narcolepsy and getting tested for it, even if you come back negative.
my dms and askbox are open anytime for any kind of questions about narcolepsy, the diagnostic process, treatments, etc. while i am not a doctor, i have learned a lot through my own experiences, talking with my sleep specialist, and also my own research, since i’m currently studying to hopefully make narcolepsy research my career! whether you are questioning having narcolepsy or not, you are not bothering me with questions, i promise, you asking will probably make my day
TLDR; narcolepsy is a very misunderstood and underdiagnosed sleep disorder, and i highly recommend everyone learn about what it actually is and what the symptoms actually are, and if you relate to any of them, talk to a sleep specialist
[other narcoleptics feel free to add on to this post with your own experiences(and also to message me i always want to talk to other narcoleptics ASJDKHJ), and non-narcoleptics please please feel free to reblog! i really want to start spreading awareness for this disorder, since again, severally under/misdiagnosed and most of the world is still under the impression that the narcolepsy stereotype is true]

Regarding the “just watch Rings of Power as fanfic!!!” - it drives me crazy. Do people not realize how fanfics work anymore? If you don’t like a fanfic, you close it and open another one, since everyone can make their own and there are probably a few thousand more around.
With Rings of Power - those are the people who own Tolkien’s Intellectual Property for the foreseeable future. RoP is the ONLY thing we get right now, there are no alternatives.
So no, it’s not as simple as “just enjoy it as a fanfic!”
That's also like... no. Hollywood is not allowed to make fanfic. Not like this. It would be one thing if they had come out of the gate saying they're going to do a vaguely Tolkien adaptation or spinoff. The whole "fanon" angle would've worked if they'd written an original story that didn't clash with canon, like taking a look into the Haradrim, for example.
But they keep claiming that what they're doing is SO true to Tolkien its EXACTLY accurate and if you don't like it YOU clearly haven't read the books. But also, we're writing the novel Tolkien never wrote because we secretly hate him and think we can do it better.
It can't possibly be fanfiction because none of the people involved are actually fans, and it's painfully obvious.

oh hey you're still alive! good! missed you!
how's your various books? i swear you were writing at least one. and i dont mean the fics.
Hey :) I'm always happy to hear from you. I suppose now's a good a time as any to give a general update about what I've been up to creatively for the past two and a half-ish years.
As you all probably know now, I've stepped away from fanfiction to focus on original fiction in the hopes of launching my dream career as a novelist. That means I've gone from about a 30/70 original-fanfic ratio in 2019 to about a 95/5 ratio now, in terms of what I'm putting out. I'm super happy with those numbers! As far as total output, I wrote 500k in 2020, and about 560k in 2021, and while I'm probably not going to manage quite that much in 2022 (shitty Life Circumstances are shitty), I'm still well on course to have a great output this year too.
The Series - My "novel" that some of you know I finished in June of 2021 actually turned out to be a complete seven book series! That means that I have full first drafts of all seven books. Additionally, in the last year, I've completed both a second and a third draft of Book One. My current goal with Book One is to pick up the fourth draft this winter, and then to query it in the spring with agents, which is super cool. The first draft of The Series was 665k words, all seven books together, but Book One now comes out at exactly 200k, so it's a real epic. Genre is on the very literary edge of contemporary, with some sci-fi and alt-history elements and some inspiration from superhero fic, but that's about all I'll say about it here ;) Keeping my fingers crossed for good luck in the querying process.
The Fantasy Novel - Additionally, I have been worldbuilding a fantasy world since I was in elementary school, which means that I am now in year eleven of its development. What began as a blatant D&D ripoff now has a fully realized world, a language, deep lore and history, and about eleven failed novel attempts in my drawer. But after I finished draft three of Book One, I started a new attempt at Fantasy Novel, and it's flown off of my fingertips in a really exciting way. I'm still in the first draft, but I'm about 11/17 chapters in, which feels like a really good place to be. Not sure how long that is yet, cause I'm drafting on paper oddly. My goal is to finish Fantasy Novel's first draft within a month or two, then set it aside for a while.
The Horror Novel - After The Series and The Fantasy Novel, my next most successful project from the COVID era has been a really cool horror novel that I started in the summer of 2021, right after I finished draft one of The Series. This one is about 60k deep, but it's very complicated from a research perspective, and due both to Life Circumstances and revising Book One, I've stalled a bit. Despite that, though, I think that Horror Novel probably has some of the best prose I've ever written, including one chapter that is decisively the best thing I've ever written, so I will publish this one at some point in my life. It's too good not to. I may take a while to finish it, though.
The Autofiction Novel - I started four novels this summer after I finished draft three of Book One, and this was the first of them (Fantasy Novel is the third). This one's currently sitting at about 24k - it's cool in that it toes a really interesting line between memoir and fiction, but the tone is pretty dark, and it gets at some pretty heavy stuff I've gone through in my life. Wasn't really in a good headspace for it after the Life Circumstances, so I've set it aside for a bit.
The Romances - I've made three stabs at these since the pandemic started, one a summer, and none have gone much of anywhere. The first was a silly, kinda campy concept in 2020, and it didn't manage more than a chapter (granted, it was about jet skis, mermaids, and Florida, so what have you). The second was about baseball lesbians and shitty relationships with intimacy in 2021, and that went about 14k before I started attempt eleven of Fantasy Novel, the one before the current, so that petered out quick too. The third is very recent, novel number four on the summer, at about 12k, kind of a fun play on your typical amnesia plot, but given how much else is going on in my life right now, not sure if I'll take that anywhere.
Other Stuff - I wrote a poetry chapbook and a song in the fall of 2021. I wrote 6k of a dumb, campy fantasy novel about lesbian vampires after I watched First Kill (novel two), which should tell you everything you need to know about that. Never gonna see the light of day. I wrote a cool short story for my Japanese Literature class as a trans take on patriarchal romance in the Tale of Genji - pretty proud of that. I'm currently working on a really long piece of philosophy, which we'll see where that goes. Some fanfiction too, I guess - just some silly Twilight and Harry Potter crack, plus I've managed a chapter or two of my Ranma fic. Otherwise, well - I mean, "That's all?" That seems like a hell of a lot to me. It would make more sense how much all of this is if I told you about the Life Circumstances, but I'm not about to traumadump that shit on the interwebs.
Anyway that's what's up with me - your latest update from your friendly local writer-who-really-wants-to-do-this-for-a-living Allison Illuminated. Check in later for "oh my god oh shit oh fuck how did she write more novels."
