Day 7: Read More Than Once

Okay book readers of Tumblr, I could use some help.
I read a book years ago, and I’m trying to find it again, but I don’t remember the title.
What I do remember was that it was a (possibly?) romance novel (not a smutty one) set in Victorian England. The main character was physically disabled and had to use a cane to get around, and I’m pretty sure she was a witch?… I don’t really know, but magic definitely played a big part in the story. I’m also pretty sure one character was a doctor named Graves, and other characters commented on the irony of such a name. One scene I remember was this party where the characters unwrapped an actual Egyptian mummy (which was an actual thing Victorians did!).
Also the main character’s disability wasn’t magicked away, her maid and her best friend got together and made her new shoes and canes that went with her outfits and made it easier for her to walk without pain or discomfort.
I’m going to keep looking for the book, but if this is ringing any bells please reblog with the title, I really want to read this one again.
@sophielovesbooks @books-and-cookies @sleepyreads @whilereadingandwalking @just0nemorepage @i-love-books-because-reasons please help if you can
Update: I think we found it!
I’ll have to reread it to be totally sure, but it seems to be Courtship and Curses by Marissa Doyle!
It’s set in the Regency period, not the Victorian era, but Ms. Doyle has other books set in the Victorian era, and I might have conflated the different books. Thanks so much to everyone who offered suggestions, I’ll have to read those too!

Disabled Artist needs housing help
Hey. I'm an enby person with several chronic illnesses. I work from home to support 3 people on my own. I usually (note: usually) barely make it to rent, but this month everything has seemed to come down at once and I'm going to be approx. $900 short. [Edit: As of 10/25 I will be $655 short] I can probably make up a 1-2 hundred of that in a few days, but it's not going to be enough.
This is especially terrifying because moving is highly traumatic to my partner. We've been evicted twice in the past 3 years (once for financial reasons, and the last was a shitty discriminatory management company) - and I don't think we'd make it through another, and I'm not even being hyperbolic. And paying late AT ALL means shitty companies won't renew our lease. I am seriously terrified. Not being able to have these few hundred will be literally life-destroying. I already live every day expecting a flare-up to put me in the hospital again, because that's what stress does to me, every time.
Can anyone help us out with mutual aid? Earlier today I donated $5 to an artist who has helped me, with the hope it can come back around. Anything is helpful. I'd even do a peer-to-peer loan if that's a thing.
Payment links:
Paypal | Venmo : Piichann | Shop: one two | Ko-fi
!! Please signal boost !!
I am just so tired of us all being forced to destroy our bodies, destroy our lives, just to live. And still not be able to pay for basic housing and food. I really want people to unite around mutual aid. Support each other. (And anyone is more than welcome to add their needs to this post) People shouldn't need to wade through paperwork and Telegram scammers to get help.
Society just doesn't need to be like this, and we should be able to change it. I think if everyone tried to, we really could. Unite together. I don't exactly know how we get there, but we should all be sick of this. I know I am. And I will, and do, give back when I can.
❤️❤️ Free Kitty Pic ❤️❤️

Just One More Page's March Book Photo Challenge
Tumblr media
March 1, 2023 - TBR This Month
I saw this pop up on my feed and I'm trying to find smaller ways to participate more in the booklr community. And I knew that I had a lot of books that I had acquired recently, and these are only part of what's on my to-be-read list, but ones that I figured I could read this month. Or, at least, make an attempt at reading. We'll see how far I actually get.
First on my TBR is The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I have read this book before, but this time around it's for the Traveling Book Project being put in by @just0nemorepage and I'm excited for it!
The rest of the list is Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata, Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket, The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi, A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers, The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah, Qualityland by Marc-Uwe Kling, Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley, and Book of Night by Holly Black.
What's your TBR for this month? Do you plan one? Or just get what feels like you'll most read at the moment? I usually do what I feel like I'll read, but I do have a rough idea of books I would like to read.

Alright, friends, it's almost October and although I probably shouldn't buy any more books (said with an uncomfortable glance at shelves upon shelves of unread ones) I am so in the mood for something spooky!! Past faves have been:
Night Film by Marisha Pessl (adore! Might need a reread)
Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall (sooo much scarier than expected, I mean wow! This was YA? How??)
Harrow Lake by Kat Ellis (really fun and just the right amount of scary)
I am looking for something scary, yet not terribly disturbing, I'd say. The other day I rewatched Shutter Island (which I loved as a teenager) and am embarrassed to say that that felt like too much somehow? But then again, films might be different from books, Idk.
Does anybody have any recs? @books-and-cookies @sleepyreads @just0nemorepage @appleinducedsleep @whilereadingandwalking @miss-nerd-alert I don't know if you all like scary reads, but as some of the book people on here who I could think of right now, maybe you have ideas? Also @hrimceald? <3

Book readers of Tumblr, I request your aid in my quest for a book.
So it's a war romance book set in World War 2 Normandy, the MC is this girl whose name starts withan L, something short and snappy, like Liesl or sth similar. Her house, which is pretty well off, is appropriated by a German officer named Dieter, who is sent there to supervise the construction and manning of the Atlantic Wall. They slowly warm up to each other, and eventually fall in love and have sex. The MC gets pregnant, and finally manages to convince her father to allow them to marry. Before the news comes out though Normandy happens and Dieter is killed. The MC panics and buries him in an unmarked grave in her garden and then quickly woos, dates and marries an American soldier who fancies her in a shotgun wedding. This guy's name is pretty unremarkable but it might be Paul or sth. Anyways, she marries quickly, has sex, and continues to carry Dieter's son while the American soldier goes on to fight. The son is born 9 months after conception and 7 months after the marriage, and the MC names him Dominic. The war ends and she goes to America with the American soldier, who turns out to be pretty rich. She enjoys her new socialite life in America but is wracked by guilt over the American doting on Dominic like his own son. So she keeps trying to have another baby, a child of the American proper. She succeeds and has a daughter, I can't remember her name. Anyways Dominic grows up into a very handsome, very German/French young man and some time later the American guy finds out about Dieter and gets into an accident of some sort that leaves him maybe in a coma, maybe paraplegic, but he slowly recovers throughout the rest of the book while the MC takes care of him, and then they go back to France where he stands up and walks around again, and the MC and the husband shares a romantic dance in the garden where they buried Dieter.
Anyways if anyone could point me in the direction of the book it would be great. @sophielovesbooks @books-and-cookies @sleepyreads @whilereadingandwalking @just0nemorepage @i-love-books-because-reasons @natalieironside @thebibliosphere
