"For she may strew dangerous conjectures in ill-breeding minds" (making a fresh argument for my 'Ophelia was murdered' interpretation of Hamlet)
Three-years-and-change ago, I wrote a post with my conspiracy theory literary interpretation that Ophelia was murdered. A couple weeks ago, I was tagged in another post about "The Tragedy of Hamlet," and that brought me back to my chosen hill to die on.
In this post, I'll focus on Gertrude herself, and on the iambic pentameter, because
A) The rhythm of English has not changed in the last 400 years, and B) We know Shakespeare himself wrote it that way on purpose.
Now, Shakespeare used iambic pentameter to direct the pacing of a scene, depending on context (I'm basing this on the work of Shakespearean actor and scholar Ben Crystal; see the link at the end to a video where he demonstrates how this works):
If an actors line was shorter than ten syllables, followed by a full line, that could tell the other actor in the scene exactly how long to pause and do some nonverbal reaction before speaking (the unspoken syllables are there, they're just silent).
If two, or more, lines add up to exactly ten syllables, that could tell the actors to pick up the pace, and answer without pausing
If each line is less than ten syllables, but more than ten when added together, Tell the actors to speak over each other / "step on each other's lines.
And Shakespeare uses all three variations in Act 4, scene Five.
In dialog lines of irregular length, I'll indicate silent syllables with "-_" for each iamb, and I'll underline the when the overlapping syllables blend to make a clean line of iambic pentameter. Then I'll write out the shared & overlapping dialog as though they were lines of verse, showing the stressed syllables in bold.
I hope that's clear (or will quickly become so).
First: Act 4, scene Five (MIT.edu) opens in the middle of things, with a Walk-and-Talk that would make Aaron Sorkin proud:
QUEEN GERTRUDE: I will not speak with her. -_ -_ HORATIO and Gentleman: [Insert astonished blinking man GIF here] Gentleman: She is importunate, indeed distract: Her mood will needs be pitied. QUEEN GERTRUDE: What would she have?
Her moods will needs be pit- What would she have?
Okay, so hearing that Ophelia is "acting up" certainly got the queen's attention, eh? She doesn't even wait for Gentleman to finish the last word of his line (Also: she's being told that a teenage girl is really upset that her dad's dead. And Gertrude's response is to snap: "What does she want?" Really?! Yikes).
The unnamed Gentleman goes on to describe how Ophelia is speaking of her dead father and vaguely alluding to conspiracies, that her speech is basically word salad, but her "winks and nods" give the impression that she's speaking in code.
Gentleman: [concluding] Indeed would make one think there might be thought, Though nothing sure, yet much unhappily. HORATIO: 'Twere good she were spoken with; for she may strew Dangerous conjectures in ill-breeding minds.
Though nothing sure, yet much unhapi-'Twere Good she were spoken with; for she may strew Dange-rous conjectures in ill-breeding minds.
Finally, Gertrude says: "-_ -_ -_ Let her come in."
Horatio and the Gentleman are talking over each other, in their efforts to sway the queen. I get the feeling this attempt has been going on for some time; it may have started with: "She's really sad about her father. she could use some support in dealing with grief.." But the argument that finally sways Gertrude is: "She's a potential threat to Claudius's Power."
Shakespeare wrote the line about the threat she posed in a completely different meter. Instead of giving that line a scansion of: "de-dum, de-dum, de-dum, de-dum, de-dum," he's given it the rhythm of "Dum-de-de, dum-de-de, dum-de-de, dum," which makes it stand out from the rest of the scene. That's another red underline Shakespeare is giving us.
The longish pause could have come at the end of her line, but I think it makes more sense to have her hesitate before agreeing to see Ophelia.
Exit Horatio to go fetch her. Then:
To my sick soul, as sin’s true nature is, Each toy seems prologue to some great amiss: So full of artless jealousy is guilt, It spills itself in fearing to be spilt.
As I noted in my previous post, these are two rhyming couplets -- the only "plain dialog" in the scene that rhymes (other than Ophelia's songs, but they rhyme because that's what song lyrics do), and not even in Shakespeare's usual way of rhyming alternate lines.
Now what, pray tell, could the queen be feeling so guilty about (that she absolutely, positively, does not want Ophelia to find out)?
That Ophelia's father died because of something she had asked him to do? Quite possibly. But Ophelia already knows her father has died, and the queen expressing regret about it would not likely make the queen appear guilty.
Maybe Ophelia doesn't know, however, that her father was in the queen's chamber when he was killed, and the queen is afraid Ophelia would get the wrong idea. But whatever sin Gertrude is trying to hide, it's probably not that she's cheating on Claudius with Polonius so soon after the wedding (unless that's exactly it. I doubt it, though. Polonius is basically a walking-talking plot point).
At first, I thought she felt guilty about the fact that her own son (and Ophelia's boyfriend) was the murderer, and that's the secret she doesn't want Ophelia to find out. That's reasonable. That's what any halfway decent person would worry about, to protect the heart and mind of a young woman that's almost family.
But then, between Ophelia's first confrontation with the queen and her "Flower Speech," Leartes breeches Elsinore's defenses, and leads a raging mob (those ill-breeding minds in which dangerous conjectures have already been planted) to the doors just beyond Stage Left, and:
Leartes: Where is my father? Claudius: Dead. Gertrude: But not by him.
Where is my father? Dead. But not by him.
I said it in my earlier post, and I'll say it again, here: Gertrude literally does not skip a beat to defend Claudius, even when that puts her own son at risk. Doesn't stop to think about it, even for a breath.
If Queen Gertrude didn't hesitate to risk Hamlet's life. I doubt she'd be overly worried about risking Ophelia's opinion's of his character (especially since appeals to speak to her at all didn't sway her until Horatio mentioned Ophelia' threat to civil order). And yet, Shakespeare very deliberately underlined and circled the point that Gertrude is holding a deep secret guilt, and that she's afraid to speak to Ophelia, lest she let something slip.
(Also, when going back to the scene, to check something, I noticed something my mind skipped over, before: The Danish Rabble promise Leartes not to let anyone come in while he's in the room negotiating with Claudius. And yet, they're heard off-stage saying: "Let her come in" just as Ophelia reenters to give her "Flower Speech" while her brother is there. So while Leartes has been in France, Ophelia has clearly been gaining the respect of the Common Folk in the meantime. Which, to my mind, suggests this "madness" has been going on for a while, and is not a sudden reaction to deliberate or accidental poisoning. Which further suggests to me that she is simply better at "Putting on an antic disposition" than Hamlet is.)
So, all that is why Queen Gertrude started to appear very suspicious in regards to Ophelia's death.
But what's the secret Gertrude is so afraid Ophelia will find out? I think :
Claudius's legitimacy to the Danish Throne depends on the courtiers and common people Believing that he and Gertrude agreed to wed after consoling each other in their shared grief over losing a darling husband and beloved brother.
Queen Gertrude had done a "Lady Macbeth," and it was actually her idea for her first husband to have a final, forever, nap in the royal garden.
She's afraid Ophelia will figure that out. After the coded language of the Flower Speech, I think she's worried that Ophelia has already figured it out, and so gives her a little shove into the river, before she can spread that idea any further.
-----
*Starting here, in a 2014 presentation on Shakespeare's use of language (celebrating Willy Shakes's 450th birthday), Shakespearean actor and scholar Ben Crystal demonstrates how Iambic Pentameter shows us how Shakespeare wanted the dialog to be paced in The Tragedy of Macbeth (sorry, not sorry, not superstitious). A bit later, he and his acting friends demonstrate overlapping iambic pentameter when Hamlet and Leartes fight at Ophelia's grave.

Minecraft Diaries: The Descended
"I know ma I know- no going out into the woods and be back before curfew- it's just the movies! It's not like I'm going on a camping trip or something!" Cori Irenia was nineteen years old, still living with their mother, and quite frankly very annoyed at the sheer level of helicopter parent they were dealing with.
"I'm just trying to keep you safe dear! You never know what's out there after all," Hyacinth Irenia was a timid woman, she behaved in ways that gave the impression of a petrified rabbit. An ironic mentality, considering her child's penchant for rabbit-themed clothing, mostly in the form of black or purple hoodies with rabbit ears. Cori could never understand the mentality their mother embodied, but then, they also hadn't ever been allowed outside of their comfy life in a two bedroom apartment.
"I know- I'll be back before ten, I promise, love you ma, I'll see you later," Cori had run out the door before their mother could stop them or respond, barely acknowledging their mother's timid wave.
Cori hadn't been lying of course, they did go to the movies that day, their friends Ophelia and Porter had been, unfortunately, waiting a very long time for them.
"Finally got away from mama bear?" Porter joked, raising his hands in a claw-like pose and making a poor imitation of a bear's roar.
"Porter! Enough, you know Miss Irenia just wants Cori to be safe, that's not a bad thing." Ophelia chided, elbowing him in the stomach.
"Ow! Hey I was just joking around! Cori knows I didn't mean anything by it." Cori let out a laugh and nodded in agreement.
"Ugh- whatever let's just- get to the movie." Ophelia rolled it's eyes, making its way toward the movie theater entrance.
Cori's mother never liked how close the movie theater was to the woods on the outskirts of O'Khasis City, but it was the only place to get the experience, so she, reluctantly, let them go. However the movie theater was one of the few places that Cori could understand their mother's doubts, they often felt a strange. . . presence.
But today would be the day they would face that fear, as Ophelia and Porter had both finally been convinced to join them in exploring the outskirts. Today would be the day that, after the movie, they would finally go into the woods that the O'Khasis police force seemed so intent on blocking off.
"Tasers?"
"Yep,"
"Food and Water?"
"All good!"
"Maps?"
"Ready for making!"
"Then into the forest we go," Cori stated, pulling up the hood of their black rabbit hoodie-dress.
The three of them stuck to the shadows as they made their way toward the canopy of trees just outside the city. There wasn't a sound to be made, even with the oddly sparse offense presence just before the sprawling city streets narrow into a dark and foggy forest.
"Some say this forest used to be mostly ocean y'know, like the land itself has changed, spawned anew somehow," Ophelia said, giving the woodlands an awed once-over.
"That's crazy- a world can't just change at random like that- what next, I can punch trees to get wood now?" Porter said with a laugh.
"Well we've never tried to punch a tree before have we?" Cori said, proceeding immediately to wind up a fist and drive it into a nearby tree. . .
Which, as it would happen, spontaneously collapsed. The three stood their, dumbstruck, Cori looked down at their knuckles- not a single drop of blood to be seen.
Unlike Porter who, upon his hypothesis being proven correct, had decided to perform a retest- with. . . much less successful results.
"Porter! Oh you stupid- if Cori jumped off a bridge would you!."  Ophelia said, shaking it's head in exasperation.
"If Cori can knock a tree down in one punch without bloody knuckles than yeah I'd jump off a bridge with them," Porter said, clearly trying to ignore his obviously bloody knuckles.
"I don't recommend that- I- don't even know how I did this. . ." Cori muttered.
Ophelia finished bandaging Porter's injured knuckles, and the trio continued on further into the woods.
Further. . .
And further. . .
And. . .
"CORI AZALEE IRENIA!" Cori froze at the sound of their mother's angry shouts, their mother rarely sounded so furious.
"O-oh uh- hi- mom-" Cori seemed frozen to the spot, their limbs couldn't move, their eyes didn't leave the furious frame of their mother.
"I knew it I knew it I KNEW you were going to go out into the woods- what were you thinking! And bringing these two! They've already been injured! I expected more from you." Cori felt their lip quivering, they hated crying in front of their friends.
"Well I- we-" Cori couldn't seem to muster any words to defend themself. Luckily, or unluckily for them, they didn't have to. A strange shadowy figured appeared behind their mother, who turned around as she noticed her child's eyes widen, face going sickly pale.
"Run. All three of you- Run. Get to the ruins of Phoenix Drop as soon as you can- keep heading north." Cori only had a few seconds to give their mother a worried glance before the three of them finally made a break for it.
"Phoenix Drop? That's not even a real place!" Porter said, clearly baffled.
"Yes it is! I've seen it! In my dreams!" Ophelia shot back.
"I. . . I think I know where it is- I know what she wants me to find-" Cori said, looking between their two friends and then turning their attention straight forward.
"There! Straight ahead!" Cori said, pointing to a white blurry shape in the distance.
"It. . . looks like some kind of statue. . ." Ophelia said, now almost equally as confused as Porter.
"It is. . . of a woman, Lady Irene, Lord Aphmau. . ." Cori said, kneeling down in front of the plaque at the base of the statue.
"Irene. . . that- that sounds like your last name. . ." Ophelia said, shifting it's feet in the grass.
"Exactly like yours, child. . ." a chill went down the hooded child's spine as they got back to their feet, turning to see the same shadow from before.
"I am not here to hurt you. . . yet, it wouldn't be as fun when you've only just started your journey, but know this, you have many enemies young one, enemies who's pasts lie far beneath the earth, they will come for you, they will all come for you. Your bloodline is stained with the blood of friends and foes alike, they will not be so keen on leaving you to rest. Beware the living, respect the dead, and perhaps you will not suffer the same fate as those before you." the shadow dropped something large that made a sickening cracking and squishing sound as it landed. It was with a horrified sense of unease that Cori realized that they were looking at their mother's body, drained of life, nearly skin and bones save for the now all to obvious muscular system within.
The trio didn't go back to the city, how could they? If that. . . thing. . . was looking for them. Hyacinth's body was buried, and a marker was placed using remnants of tree branches from trees Cori had knocked over. They'd managed to place the trees strategically enough that a structure of some sense could be built up, giving the three shelter as they processed the information they'd just learned.
"So you're. . ." Ophelia and Porter spoke at the same time, unusual for the two of them.
"The descendant of Lady Irene. . ." Cori responded, voice barely above a whisper.
Just what that entailed. . . their understanding of had only just begun to develop.

😭 🍧 🙉 for Ophelia and Justice?
😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?
Ophelia: I think Ophelia cries during sex but otherwise she has that shit on lockdown. Unless she thinks it'll benefit her. But even then honestly fake crying or intentionally putting herself in an emotional state to cry would probably be one of her absolute last resorts because that makes her seem less like she's Perfectly In Control.
Justice: No tear ducts ;-;
🍧 SHAVED ICE - do they still have any objects from their childhood? what significance does it have to them? what would their reaction be if they lost it?
Ophelia: I'm debating exactly how much leeway there was, but the prophecy specified she'd leave home with basically nothing, so she may well only have had the clothes on her back. She also tends to live a fairly ascetic life so I'm not sure how much she had in the way of material possessions to begin with.
Justice: I know it used several trinkets it had from Generous and from its childhood back in Springfield to upgrade its gear (themes and narratives, babey). I do believe a number of its tool kits are from early in its apprenticeship still, and given that it keeps them well-maintained but usually relies on the liquid metal tools from its soul forge nowadays, I doubt those will wear out anytime soon.
🙉 HEAR-NO-EVIL - what is the worse thing your oc could hear from someone?
Ophelia: Ichayi saying that she's inadequate.
Justice: Condemnation from a family member[1] regarding the actions it's taken since Generous died.
[1] Or Generous themself, for that matter.

Ophelia knew she should say something, she had to say something. They had no obligation to do her any favours considering they were both competing for the same position. The woman bit her lip, hating the weight of this act of gratitude, feeling like a burden nestled comfortably like a cuddling cat. The Euphorian: Ludus 2
Justice: Agape 3
Ophelia: Pragma 2
Ludus 2. Is your OC particularly skilled at flirting? Have they had to practice this or does it just happen naturally?
He taught himself to flirt somewhat by necessity when he was an elf in his early 20s stuck in the Feywild. By this point I think it just comes naturally to him though.
Agape 3. To what extent does your OC believe in the value (or even existence) of true altruism? Do they see an unselfish concern for the welfare of others as being naïve or foolish? Or as a moral quality to which people should aspire?
Just answered in this ask!
Pragma 2. What is the biggest challenge that your OC has had to overcome in a long-term relationship or friendship? What helped them get through this?
Gonna put this part under a Read More for Ophelia Spoilers.
So! For her long-term friendships/other relationships with the other Chosen of Embers (subjects of Ichayi's prophecies that were found at a young age and raised into the role) her biggest struggle was always trying to strike a balance between her role as the Grand Martyr, Chosen of the prophecy upon which the entire religion was founded, and how she must always be set apart from others so she can act as a symbol to them--versus trying to have even vaguely normal relationships with her peers growing up.
The exception to that is Serkhan, the eldest of the Chosen of Embers, Ichayi's specialest little boy, a self-centered sadist who torments others for the thrills (and somewhat out of jealousy wrt the other Chosen, because he was the first of the current batch and got pissy when others showed up and started taking up Ichayi's time and attention), especially loves pissing off Ophelia, and is, in Ophelia's eyes, a complete loose cannon who cannot be trusted to do anything that fails to bring him short-term gratification.
The biggest struggle there is resisting the urge to go against her Goddess' orders and smother him in his sleep.

Studying Hamlet again, and this is a very cold take at this point, but Ophelia deserved so much better.
I want to write an ending where she fakes her death and escapes Denmark to live her own life away from all of the court and politics and mess and she laughs while the royal family and country that ignored her implodes, because girl deserves the world.

I realised Cécilia had a roommate at her magic school, but I hadn't thought about them even though they spend 6 years sharing a room, so I invented a new girl! ... and her six siblings. See I called her Temperance, but then I realised, temperance is one of the seven virtues! So the Edwards parents have terrible tastes in names and they have seven children. Fortunately they thought about that and gave them more normal middle names, so they tend to either go by those, nicknames based on their first name, or their last name. Chastity got the worst name of the list and I think the luckiest is Temperance or Charity, the other ones are just words.

💉BLOODLINES💉
Tumblr media
Prompt inspired by the newly crowned Vampire King in "DC Vs Vampires"; Plot: The Team has to keep their eyes on Robin whenever he first starts craving for the Lucky Girl's blood by Batman's strict orders...DO NOT LET HIM BITE HER, little did they know is that the Boy Wonder won't stop playing his favorite hunting game with Kitten to claim his prey as her predator. Batman describes her fresh blood as intoxicating and addictive for other vampires due to her pure magic energy from her astral projection of cosmic mana. The Team are ready to get these partners in crime through isolation from their blood pact and psychic bond they have with each other.
Robin was going crazy and the Team wasn't helping by isolating him inside the cage far away from Mouse. He ran out of blood bags and Batman was getting some more for his protégé before the Romanian acrobat goes on a berserk rampage for fresh blood. The Boy Wonder was panting and trying not to lose his sanity in front of the Lucky Girl.
The Team watched their comrade lose his mind while Mouse was frowning at him with sadness and worry. No matter how many times that her six comrades reassure the Lucky Girl...she seems to look concern and feel guilty about being a favorite painkiller to the vampire. Robin never said anything bad about her and would let the young thief cuddle right next to him as the warmth to his chills.
"Please let me out guys, I wanna hug Mouse." Aqualad shakes his head no, Wonder Girl and Superboy was protectively hiding Mouse behind them.
"Robin, we can't risk you draining Mouse's blood. Till Batman comes back with more bags for you, you're stuck in isolation and away from her." The Lucky Girl hugged Miss Martian, who held her and let the thief feel comfortable.
Mouse tries to walk over there, but both Kid Flash and Artemis kept her away from the Boy Wonder for her own safety. The Lucky Girl wasn't afraid of Robin and his vampirism...she was very curious about it. Batman explained the whole story and history behind it, which got her much impressed by how their kind were very different.
Ever since she found out about being half alien, the Lucky Girl would sneak out and bring some fresh blood bags she got from her birth mother's hospital clinic for Robin only. The Dark Knight eventually caught her and Mouse came clean about why she brought him his food. The caped crusader took her offer of getting blood from that clinic and it seemed to dim down the Boy Wonder's cravings for the red liquid until now.
Apparently...the clinic is doing blood donations and organ transfers for the poor. Mouse was scared for Batman's protégé due to the lack of control and attention whenever he smells the crimson substance. The Lucky Girl wasn't going to let the six people she sees as older siblings think that she's weak and fragile...she's ready to confront Robin about why he's trying to keep her away from him.
"Robin?" The Boy Wonder snapped his eyes open from hanging upside down to see Mouse rolling some fresh blood bags in a small ice box for him.
"What are you doing here Tiny? It's dangerous for you to get near me," the Lucky Girl shook her head no with a deep frown and slid the box over to his side.
"I'm sick and tired of you guys thinking that I'm just a fragile human being!" Mouse told Robin, shocking him as he grabs his meal and his fill of cold blood.
"Tiny, I'm a vampire, I could hurt you!" Robin growled at her in warning, trying to scare her away from him.
"So what? I just found out with my brother and cousins that we're half human!" Mouse retorted back at him in defiance, shifting into her Anodite form and standing in front of him. "I saved the Team in this form and they still believe that I'm a doll."
Robin stares at Mouse's alien form in shock and awe. His crush looks like a holy saint fallen from the heavens and was a blessed gift for him as his guardian angel. The Boy Wonder walks to the cell's door and was staring down at her a bit through the glass.
"I know you're scared that you'll hurt me, I won't run away again...please Robin, I'm worried about you." Mouse begged him softly.
Mouse gently puts her right hand at the door and leaves it there before leaning her forehead against the glass. Robin places his left one there to copy her and responds with a small smile while putting his forehead where she places her against the glass. The partners in crime closed their eyes and let their feelings speak through the sound of silence by the glass.
Batman walks inside the cellar with Catwoman to see that his adopted son was having a silent isolated moment with his godchild and was silently relieved that the Boy Wonder didn't try to latch himself onto Mouse. The Dark Knight sees a small ice box and notices that Robin was being fed with blood along with strawberries to cope with his craving by the Lucky Girl. The two younger heroes saw their mentors and they smiled at the couple.
"It seems you two have been getting along well," the Boy Wonder nodded his head yes while drinking some blood and humming at the sweet taste.
"Robin was hungry, so I got this delivery from Dr. Nelson and she made sure this blood was very healthy for him to drink." Mouse told her godparents. "I decided to show Robin my true self and he let me stay. I was lucky enough to find some huge strawberries and let him eat some with blood."
The glass suddenly came right off and Robin sighs in relief. Mouse held one strawberry in her hands and he gently eats it in response. The Lucky Girl could hear him purring in content and loving the full attention from his crush.
"Don't worry Robin, you'll be coming out of this cage soon and we can go somewhere for our picnic date. I promise you," she told him, earning a bright smile from the Boy Wonder.
Their picnic date was all fun and games. The two heroes were spending the greatest time within the crystal cove, they even shared their first kiss inside the cave with privacy and were now dating. The Team doesn't know about them being together cause Robin and Mouse tend to know how to hide their secret relationship as lovers.
"Hey Robin, how's your date?" Robin smiled at the words and begun telling the Team everything without blowing his cover. "Mouse, do you think his girlfriend's very cute?"
Mouse nodded while trying not to blush and was eating a green apple. The Boy Wonder walks over to the ginger-haired hacker and whispers that his thankfulness for getting his cravings down. The Lucky Girl hummed and nodded in agreement.
Artemis and Kid Flash was teasing the Boy Wonder about him being whipped by his new girlfriend. Wonder Girl, Aqualad, Miss Martian, and Superboy suddenly grew suspicious about how Mouse had almost turned red and thought it was jealousy at first till that day came. Robin was currently back in his bedroom in Wayne Manor and the Lucky Girl was sitting next to him.
"Kaldur, Opal, Conner, and M'gann are growing suspicious about us. I got a picture of my classmate James and you got me as Eve Lynne. Nobody on the Team knows about who I am...except for you." Mouse said to him.
"Artemis and Wally are gonna kill us for this. If they asked if I call you..." Robin trailed off in fear and nervousness.
The Lucky Girl squeaked softly in response with a petrified look and the Boy Wonder hugged her. The two sidekicks already told Batman and Catwoman, who shockingly approves their relationship like her biological family. Robin and Mouse sighed before they got ready to head into Mount Justice.
"Hey guys, how's your dates?" Robin and Mouse smiled nervously at Wonder Girl.
"Awesome/Great," the younger sidekicks responded, walking over to Kid Flash and Artemis.
"Hey Rob, can you call your girlfriend, I wanna meet her through the phone?" Kid Flash asked.
"Uh," the Lucky Girl went silent and left to get a book at the library.
"Where are you going Tiny?" Artemis asked her best friend.
"To the library, I met her already and it turned out his girlfriend is my date's little sister." The Team let her slide for the moment as they heard the Lucky Girl go to the library and shut the door.
"You guys know what, I'm gonna go practice in the training room...bye!" Robin was about to leave when Aqualad firmly pushes him back on the couch and the Boy Wonder knew he was screwed.
"Robin, call your girlfriend or we tell the rest of the Team about who you really are." Robin froze with disbelief, he nervously calls Mouse and puts it on speaker.
Superboy suddenly hears the familiar ringtone "Whispers In The Dark" by Skillet coming from the library and went wide-eyed in shock. The Boy of Steel could hear Mouse whining and trying to run inside her bedroom. She slams the door shut and answers the call.
"Hello?" Mouse replied softly in a whisper.
"You're about to be a dead rodent when you come out," the rest of the Team heard something moving and Mouse was probably busy trying to hide herself.
"Robin...tell the truth, Opal scares me worse than Conner." The Lady of Redemption gasped at that in offense while Superboy chuckles a bit and felt appreciated about those words.
"I'll hunt you down Mouse...just wait and see. Robin," a portal was suddenly formed and Robin was yanked inside the pink dimensional vortex with his phone before Kid Flash can react. "Dang it Mouse!"
Mouse hangs up and they shut down their phones. Robin was shivering like the Lucky Girl and pecked their lips. The Boy Wonder shifts into his bat form and she turns into hers before Mouse forms a psychic bond due to their blood pact of marriage.
ROBIN: Where are we, Bat-Cave?
MOUSE: Yes.
The two bats were flying through the Bat-Cave while practicing their flight skills and getting along like they did inside the crystal cove. Mouse forms a barrier to keep the Boy Wonder's body protected and secured from anything that's his weakness. Robin flew around her and the Lucky Girl giggles happily before hugging him.
Batman and Alfred found Robin hanging upside down on the Super Computer. The Boy Wonder wasn't alone, Catwoman and Patience sees the Lucky Girl beside him. Mouse was curled up under his wing and he was nuzzling her head with his nose.
The Team arrives a few minutes to see two bats hung upside down and noticed one of them have a hot pink collar on its neck. The Amazonian demigoddess realized that Mouse must've turned into a bat and was snuggling with the Boy Wonder. Robin turns back and took the Lucky Girl in his arms.
"Why didn't you tell us Mouse?" Miss Martian asked.
"Cause you guys have been overprotective of me whenever I'm near Robin, he won't even hurt me at all. If so, how come I'm still alive then huh? My family has a history with supernatural creatures and disasters. He'll never bite me...but he still wants blood and I supplied him some cold packs of them last week for his isolation from my mother's clinic and made sure it was O-." Kid Flash froze when the smaller bat spoke, Batman took her and gently placed Mouse right next to her mentor, causing her to fly and use her bat wings. "Thank you Batman...we formed a blood pact and a psychic bond when we were ten years old. Robin couldn't risk losing me cause I had almost died by how much mana I've losted, his family is part a royal bloodline that leaves him as the last of their kind and I somehow imprinted him in response due to my inner confirming that he's my true mate. We talked about it at a crystal cove, then the rest...well...we decided to be private about it and not show you guys out of guilt. Either way, that was uncalled for Opal. You realize that Robin and I can't even die right?"
Mouse shifts back to her human form and turns into her two forms...her hybrid and alien form, turning back to her human self. The Lucky Girl levitated down on the ground and walks over to Robin. The Boy Wonder turns into a bat and she cooed at him softly with a small smile, kissing his forehead in response that blushes from her affectionate gesture.
The Team watched as the bat in Mouse's arms was comfortable with her holding him and she gently caresses his wings with her glowing fingers. Robin was flustered red behind this form and was enjoying the full attention from the Lucky Girl. The Boy Wonder flies over to her right shoulder and tenderly nuzzles his face onto her cheek.
"I never thought Robin will be like this," the Boy of Steel whispered the Team.
"Wow Robin, she got you whipped huh?" Robin hissed at Kid Flash with glowing red eyes, who steps back goes behind Wonder Girl out of fear.
"Never push a vampire's limits KF, this one's really special and is a very good person. I remembered taking good care of him in this form, he was afraid and insecure till he realized it was me. He wasn't hurting as much like last time, but I couldn't let him suffer and be in pain. Robin never left me since then," Artemis gave the Lucky Girl an amused look and a raised eyebrow at Robin's flustered face. "I fed him earlier ago, he didn't want blood...he wanted fruit instead. Isn't that right my favorite vamp?"
Mouse sat down on a rolling chair and continues to eat her fresh bowl of fresh red strawberries. She passes a few to the Boy Wonder, who happily eats them and gave the Team a cheeky grin in his bat form. Wonder Girl rolled her eyes at the vampire while smiling and seeing Robin be fed by the Lucky Girl.
WONDER GIRL: This boy actually put a spell on her... MISS MARTIAN: Exactly. KID FLASH: He's an evil little bat, I'll tell y'all.
"KF is right, you really are pushing your powers to make her take care of you Robin." Robin shrugged at Aqualad's statement and continues to munch on some strawberries.
During a mission...Robin was hurt, Mouse was there to save him and he was drained from his blood cravings. The Lucky Girl sighs and unzips her collar to reveal her lithe neck. She bares it to the Boy Wonder and nods at him to bite her.
Robin was hesitant and tries to control himself from biting her. Mouse held his gloved hands in hers and begun healing the Boy Wonder from his open wounds. The Lucky Girl could see the Team trying to stop the thief from doing this and she was willing to do this act for her boyfriend.
ROBIN: Mouse, I can't.
MOUSE: I love you Robin, please...I know you're craving for blood. I'm willing to let you do this to me.
Robin takes a deep breath and kisses her face. The Boy Wonder's eyes were turning red and was trying to not act feral on Mouse. The Lucky Girl let him see her neck and his feral eyes were surprised that his mate was submitting to him.
Mouse takes a deep breath and felt the vampire kiss her neck. Robin found her sweet spot when her breath hitches and forms a hickey there. The Boy Wonder finds the vein he wants and licks there to make sure he don't shock his mate with fear.
Tumblr media
The Lucky Girl gasps softly when she felt a set of fangs sinking into her neck and blushes madly in pleasure. Mouse could feel Robin's vampire venom giving her an excellent painkiller and she was stuck in a cloudy daze. The Boy Wonder hummed in delight and sucked some blood he was craving ever since they first met each other.
'Mine,' the Boy Wonder thought through feral possessiveness. 'My mate, my lover, my bride...she's all mine.'
Mouse closed her green eyes and held his cape tight in an iron grip. The Lucky Girl pants softly while Robin finishes and licks the two punctures up. The Boy Wonder gently kisses his mating mark and picks her up in his arms.
"Robin, what happened?" Robin looked down at a sleeping and flustered Mouse in his arms bridal style.
"Mouse let me suck her blood, she's somehow still alive through the whole thing." Mouse hummed in her sleep and cuddles close to his chest. "It seems that my blood cravings have stopped when I drank hers, she tastes sweeter than usual and I got myself hooked on it."
Kid Flash was about to take Mouse when Robin growled with red eyes at the speedster and bare his fangs as a threat to his best friend. Wonder Girl sprayed him lightly with holy water in warning and the Boy Wonder pouts at the demigoddess in response. Aqualad was surprised by his girlfriend's actions and she was clearly not letting Robin attack his best friend out of primal instinct.
"No biting from you anymore little bat," the demigoddess told Robin. "Try something, I got more inside my room."
Tumblr media
"Where did you get holy water?" Miss Martian asked her, shocked that the demigoddess got something like that on her.
Artemis takes the Lucky Girl instead and the rest follows the archer. Wonder Girl was watching Robin twitch and shake with fear for holy water. The demigoddess was known to be scary due to her godparents Superman and Lois Lane.
"Superman," the Boy of Steel smirked down at Robin...their own mentors got each other's weaknesses now. "Batman has Kryptonite stones, Superman got wooden stakes, garlic powder, and holy water his room...hunters like my dad will never stopped packing this with him. Now then...let's head back and debrief before this blood-sucking heathen starts turning us into fruit snacks."

THE WHOOPS AND CHEERS COULD BE HEARD FROM THE CROWD AS MY TEAM AND I HUDDLED IN EACH OTHERS ARMS, THE TROPHY IN THE MIDDLE OF US. There was a bright smile on my face as we jumped up and down, even Wednesday had a small smirk.
Basking in the afterglow of our win, my eyes scanned around for my boyfriend, wanting to playfully rub the victory in his face. We were competitive in nature, so we took no offense by the other’s gloating. I spotted him in what looked like a semi-heated exchange with Xavier from where I was standing.
I pushed my way through my team and told them I’d be right back before heading over in their direction. However, before I could make it within hearing distance of their group, Ajax was shaking his head and walking off, not before giving Xavier the finger.
A frown etched its way onto my face as I watched Ajax disappear up the hill, back to the main Nevermore grounds. “Jax!” I tried once, but he was much too far away to hear me, especially over the noise.
Instead of turning around, I made my way over to Xavier instead. Pulling on his shoulder to get him to turn around. He swiftly knocked his shoulder back, brushing off my touch with a scowl on his face.
“Woah. It’s just me-”
“What do you want?” He groaned. The hell is his problem? I thought to myself. Pinching my eyebrows together, I gave him just as much attitude as he gave me. You get what you give, right?
“I want to know why my boyfriend just left.”
“Why would I know?” He shot back.
“Because he was talking to you before he went stomping off like a child.” I retorted, growing aggravated with the boy in front of me. Xavier and I were friends., but that didn’t exclude me, nor Ajax or any of his friends, from his occasional temper tantrums. He was very…moody, for lack of better phrase.
“Because he is. And I’m not his babysitter, alright? So, you wanna know what’s wrong with Ajax? Ask him your damn self.” Was all he said, more like barked, at me before he disappeared into the crowd.
Leaving me alone, arms crossed and face scrunched in anger. I let out a puff of air and followed in Ajax’s trail up to Nevermore. “Asshole…” I mumbled.
REACHING THE BOY'S DORM, I SPOTTED EUGENE IN THE HALLS. “Eugene!” I called, the short, curly-haired boy turning to meet my eyes with a bright, kiddy smile. “Is Ajax in his dorm?”
“Um, he should be. I think I saw him come in. Can’t be too sure, though.” I nodded at him with a tight-lipped smile.
“Thanks.”
Continuing down the hall to where I remembered his room to be, I could hear music playing faintly and there were the shadows of footsteps pacing back and forth underneath the door frame. Standing directly in front of the door now, the music was much louder and I could hear the pacing, light thuds going from one side of the room to the other.
I knocked, moderately loud, waiting a few moments before knocking again — this time harder.
“I’m busy!” A voice called back. Ajax’s voice. I rolled my eyes and knocked again — longer this time, and much harder. “I said I’m busy!”
I let out a deep breath and groaned, throwing my head back. “Ajax, it’s me! Open the door!” I called as loud as I could, not worrying much to disturb the rest of the dorm considering most of them were outside still congratulating the winning team, my team.
Suddenly, the music was being turned down and the thudding footsteps were longer going side to side and instead, straight for the door. It was seconds before the knob was turning and the door was swinging open, quite aggressively might I add. No words were exchanged, just looks.
Ajax raised an impatient brow at me, a silent question of what I wanted or what I was doing here. I scoffed before rolling my eyes and dipping under his arm that was outstretched across the doorway to enter his room. I could hear him sigh behind me before the door shut.
I look around, as if I had never been in here, before turning back to face him and plopping on the bed — still adorned in my skin-tight catsuit and makeup that was still partially there.
Ajax stood in his original place by the door, the music still playing but at a reasonable volume this time. His arms were crossed as he looked at me — joker make-up long gone off of his face but he still had on the rest of his ensemble.
I simply crossed one leg over the other and smiled at him. “So…” I tried, putting on a playful tone to try and bring one out of him.
He shrugged his shoulders quickly and drew his lips into a thin line. “So?”
I sighed and let my shoulders deflate in defeat. “Ajax, what’s wrong? You didn’t even stay to congratulate me. I would have stayed for you.”
Then he was running a hand down his face in frustration. “Y/n, my team lost. Why would I stay? If you came here for a congratulations, then here — congratulations.” He snarked, throwing his hands out to the sides.
I stood up from his bed and walked over to stand in front of him, maybe a ruler of space between us now. “Okay, seriously, what is wrong with you? It’s just a game.”
He scoffed. “Yeah, to you, maybe.” He started, leaning down slightly to eye-level with me. “I was the reason my team lost. Do you know how bad that sucks?”
My neck reeled back slightly at his statement. “Ajax, what are you talking about? Your team lost because my team fucked with your boat. Simple as that. You had an advantage and we took it from you. That’s it.”
“Yeah, well, tell Xavier that.” I tilted my head in confusion. The anger was gone from his voice, replaced by regret and disappointment. “He said it was my fault we lost. That I took too long to get our flag.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. God, I love Xavier but he can be a real dick sometimes. “You know how he gets sometimes, Jax. Don’t listen to him.”
“It’s kind of hard not to when he’s fucking screaming in my ear.”
My arms went around his neck as I pecked his forehead. “You’re friends with a loveable douchebag. You should know this by now.” His arms encircled my waist, pulling me into him for comfort as he buried his face in my neck.
“I was so close to taking my hat off and stoning him.” He mumbled into my shoulder. I couldn’t stop the laugh that escaped me, walking him backwards to his bed as carefully as I could without being able to see it.
When the back of my knees hit the mattress, I let both of our bodies fall back into the cushioned surface. He was kind of heavy but it was nothing I wasn’t used to. I maneuvered us, with some of Ajax’s help, until I leaned against the headboard with him on top of me — head on my chest, arms around my hips as his legs spread around mine.
I rubbed the back of his neck and let him find comfort in my presence. “If it makes you feel any better,” I started in a low-tone, not wanting to break the moment. “Even if we hadn’t messed with your boat, Xavier would have cost you guys the win anyway. He was too focused on Wednesday to even row his paddles correctly. I looked over and he was rowing backwards.”
This elicited a laugh, vibrating from his chest and onto my lap. His embrace around me got tighter, just by a little bit. “How’d you know I was in here?” He mumbled.
I shrugged. “I saw you take off after we got the trophy. Asked Xavier where you went and he was being all pissy. I just guessed. I mean, where else would you go?”
“I was gonna come to you but I didn’t want to upset you. You looked happy. You won and you were celebrating, I didn’t want to ruin that for you.”
Moving the hand that was stroking the back of his neck to hold his chin, I lifted his gaze to meet mine. I smiled sheepishly at him, making one equally as genuine appear on his own face. “Now, you’re happy too. That’s the only win I need.”
He laughed and buried his face into my stomach, tickling me. “Cheesy…” He said, muffled into my suit.
“Truthful.”
