The whole ramble about #the cin vhetin problem makes me want to expand to other colours, but there we’d quickly run into planet-specific or species or colour vision specific associations.
On Earth, the most common metal ion used for oxygen transport is iron, which makes red the most common colour for blood (but not the only one: there’s also green, blue, and colourless blood). Which then follows that red = colour of blood, bloodletting, often life, perhaps war or action; in different cultures the colour of weddings, war, or bravery.
Blue = the colour of skies and seas/water, but that’s because of Earth’s oxygen rich atmosphere and abundant water. Planets with different atmospheres or less abundant free water (desert or ice planets) might disagree.
Green = colour of leaves and living things because of chlorophyll, but nothing says that chlorophyll is the molecule for photosynthesis on other planets (unless green plants were popular in ancient terraforming efforts).
Yellow = the colour of sun (our star is actually white, but can appear yellow/orange/red because of Rayleigh scattering), fire (because the carbon-based biomaterials we have historically burned for heat and light burn mostly yellow), or gold (which many historical cultures used as a medium of exchange).
There might be some universality to some of these, just based on chemistry. Oxidation is a powerful way of releasing chemical energy, and so far as we know, the only way to produce enough biochemical energy for complex life (but that could be our sample size of 1) and iron is particularly well-suited for transporting oxygen. And if oxygen and water are necessary for complex life, then planets that support life might have some similarities in their atmospheres and available water. Carbon really is great for building complex structural molecules and it does burn with a yellow flame, so fire = yellow/orange/red could be a fairly common association if not the only one.
But we have a sample size of 1, so I wouldn’t say it’s strong evidence. Just considering the variety of colour visions on Earth, there’s little guarantee that alien species galaxy over would agree what to associate a colour with. These might have weak correlations for humanoid species and humanoid-inhabitable planets, and they might or might not be relevant to Mandalorians. The colour meanings in mandalorian culture could very well be inherited from the Taung, who weren’t human and lived on Coruscant (the biosphere of which has long since been destroyed, so who knows what grew there originally).
As it happens, we do have linguistic evidence that the Taung, original Mandalorians, or whoever spoke the language when it developed, did indeed bleed red (ge’tal, red, lit. almost blood), and live on a planet with a blue sky (kebii’tra, daytime, lit. blue space) and green plants (vorpan’oy, vegetation, lit. green life).
The one I find interesting is green = duty in combination with mandalorians historically being agricultural people. So the colour of green would have the implication of feeding your clan, because agriculture is a collaborative effort that produces food for a community, not an individual.
Blue = reliability either has nothing whatsoever to do with water, or else Mandalore historically had very reliable rains (like monsoons). It probably doesn’t refer to river floods (like the Nile), because rivers tend not to be very blue (have you noticed that rivers are more often named black, dark, red, brown, etc. than blue?). I’d also posit that traditional mandalorian agriculture would be more likely to be rainfall based than irrigation based, which would promote independent villages over centralised government. Reliability of blue could also have something to do with the permanence of sky—or the impermanence of it: viewed from the space, the atmosphere is the thinnest blue line yet all life on the planet relies on it to breathe. Or maybe it’s just a nice colour; I’m not sure if there’s an obvious connection here.
It would be very tempting to draw the connection between red = blood = honouring a parent, but I hesitate to do that because 1) mandalorians were and are aliens who may or may not have red blood, and 2) mandalorian family is not based on blood, at least not obligatorily. Even if there is a connection with blood, I’d prefer to say it’s because of its connection with life. I.E. your parent didn’t necessarily give you your life in the flesh and blood sense, but they did nurture you and teach you what it means to be a mandalorian and how to live your life. So red in mandalorian culture is perhaps a more figurative life’s blood.
The etymology of shi’yayc, ‘yellow’, is unclear. Shi means ‘just/only’. ‘yayc could be from oyayc, ‘alive’, or it could be ya- + -yc. If it does come from ‘barely alive’, it could be a reference to dying vegetation or flickering yellow flames. But I’m going to go with this idea from @izzyovercoffee :
So, there’s no word for orange in mando’a at this time.
Consider: Yellow is sometimes indicated to also mean lust for life, depending on who you ask and what source material you’re comparing it to.
It’s entirely possible that mandalorians don’t have a way to differentiate between yellow and orange. Some cultures do display a limitation in language, seeing what we would consider a range (yellow to orange) as all one spectrum under the same banner.
So while Yellow may mean barely alive/barely dead, yellow may also mean nothing but life.
So Mando’a doesn’t have a word for orange, yet orange is used to symbolise shereshoy, an important mandalorian concept. They’ve dedicated a whole colour to it in the same vein as justice, duty, reliability, honouring a parent, vengeance and remembering the fallen have their own colours. But there’s no word for it? I call bullshit.
Isn’t it more likely that “yellow” is in fact a spectrum of colour from yellow to orange (like Yiddish blue/green) and the meaning is indeed related to both flames and the passion for life, i.e. ‘only life’ = shereshoy.
ETA: It occurred to me that an alternative solution to the problem of not having a word for the colour orange would be to use the word ‘shereshoy’ itself. Kind of like English uses ‘orange’ both for the fruit and the colour. ‘Shereshoy’ comes from shereshir (‘seize’) + oya- (the root for ‘live’ and ‘hunt, chase’). I’m not sure how you’d get from an abstract concept to the colour word, though, unless the connection is literally the colour used to paint armour.

my mandosona :3
Chakaar Kebiin (a title, not a name) was once a cunning adversary. After a job gone wrong, Chakaar Kebiin lost their leg and never fully managed to recover enough to be the mercenary they once were. However, they use their reputation and imposing size to their advantage. Where they once were a fierce sellsword and melee combatant, now their strength lies in their words. They act as a fence for their covert, and an organizer of jobs, a mediator between their covert and the underbelly of whichever city they are hiding in for the moment. Their Armorer crafted them a limb with talons to strike fear in foes, but it's as heavy and leaden as any other prosthetic is. While Chakaar Kebiin couldn't quite butcher an enemy with a vibroblade like in their prime, they're still swift enough to hold their own when a deal goes bad. While quick and sharp with outsiders, Chakaar Kebiin is known within the covert for their sense of humor, light-hearted nature, and their habit of acquiring rare, fun trinkets for the children.

Part 7 of the Cadel Aliit holopics series !
My my how time does fly
Baldar’s sons, the Disaster Mando siblings, are all grown up and assit their father and aunt’s business after Reg and Error officially retired
Business is thriving until the youngest of the group, Fiasco, 16 at the time, stumbled upon a settlement, visibly attacked, where the only survivor is a little sick and starving pantoran baby.
Fiasco was abandon by his bio family when he was a just a tiny toddler before Baldar found him. Needless to say he saw a lot of himself in the baby.
He named her Kebiin, and officially adopted her after long months of getting her back to full health.
Obviously, the Teenager wasn’t alone to raise her. His vode and specially his buirse helped him every step of the way. Accidentally turning Fiasco into a giant papa bear as time went on.
In the meantime Baz became a decent Force user, he had several teachers over the years, including members of the Skirata Aliit. He was not a bad student but due to some sour memories before his adoption, he tended to purposefully be a little osik and find his own rhythm
Speaking of menace, Kari-el developed an obsession with fire and explosives. He didn’t know why, but they felt familiar to him. He tried to use every excuses on the job to ‘lighten up’ the mood.
Eventually, an incident unlocked forgotten memories and their weight was too much on his little nautolan shoulders that he begged for them to disappear again, he didn’t want to face them. It took time but eventually turn back into his old gremlin way
Dok, well, he took upon himself to be the defacto leader of their little group. He can’t take a step forward without avoiding one of the brothers causing mischief or hurting themselves the dumbest way possible. Don’t get him wrong, he absolutely loves them to death but, he still wonders how any of them are still alive when he’s not here.
He might be the secound oldest, after Baz. But when Dok says it’s final, it’s final.

📄 - What's their name? If you and your f/o picked it, how did you pick it? Or if they picked their name, how did they pick it?
For the fanchild ask game!
Ask meme
For the Ultron/Mikitta kid:
Her name is Sidzla. It was my suggestion and one that Ultron liked. It's an old-fashioned nickname of Cecilia, which is also the name of my 2nd great grandmother. We agreed to give her a combination surname as well, for a couple different reasons, using Ultron as a surname. So she's Sidzla Ultron-Karamäki. I was a bit worried that the name wouldn't be approved, but apparently my justifications were sound.
For the Savage Opress/Gi Kast kids:
Cuyan picked his name himself after he was adopted. He never did tell us his original name; we called him "Blue" until he asserted a preference. (He wasn't a big talker at first.) He still uses Blu or Kebiin (blue in Mando'a) as cover names sometimes.
Feral is named in the memory of Savage's deceased brother, the one that the Nightsisters had Savage himself kill while he was brainwashed by them. It was Savage's idea, but it took some convincing to get him to suggest names at all at first.
Nyn's name is basically a Nightbrother name in Mando'a, one we picked together. It means "hit, strike".
Nuhur is more of a hopeful name. It means "laughter, good times". It kind of just happened. Ironically he turned out to be more of a stoic personality as he grew. 😂
If we were to have yet another kid, we've considered the name Kycina, after one of the very few Nightsisters Savage has positive memories of... But we'll see.

HI FIO i had 2 ideas id love if you wrote :] only if you wamt to ofc ahahah
1. Sith Obi-Wan au!!! This can be all evil disaster lineage au, Obi-Wan joins Vader or anything you please i trust you to write something amazing :)
The second is kind of just a vague idea i had, i was wondering how youd imagine a circus au?? Cause the jedi are all acrobatic n stuff. Go wild!
HII KEBIIN
So, first up I have written the Sith idea - with a lil twist - and I will write the acrobatics stuff soon/later.
This is my second piece of four to get published today so hang in for more!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy!
Something Obi-Wan learned early on was that pain was always going to hit him when he least expected it. The first time he felt real, true pain was Qui-Gon’s death.
As he watched from behind the red screen at his Master and the Sith battling, Obi-Wan’s hand gripping his lightsaber tightened, alongside the bad feeling in his stomach. It was knot in his stomach, and growing excruciatingly painful as time went on.
That was when the Sith twisted and his lightsaber went straight through Qui-Gon’s gut, leaving a similar hole in Obi-Wan. He didn’t even remember screaming, just the rage that took over him. A blind, red hot rage that fueled him as he waited impatiently with gritted teeth for the barrier between him and the murderer to move.
There was no time to waste as he sprung at the Sith, his movements unlike himself as he executed each one, gaining on the monster he was battling. At some point during the fight, the Sith’s burning yellow eyes widened in mystified horror as he watched Obi-Wan’s blue eyes unnaturally swim with flickering yellow.
At some point during the fight, the monster Obi-Wan was battling became himself, as he drove himself beyond his breaking point and into the abyss, pushing on all of his boundaries as his rage sliced and slashed at the Sith.
When he was pushed over, Obi-Wan’s hand barely managed to grasp onto the wall, his red hot rage twisted with desperation as sparks licked at his skin.
The Force responded to him in such an unnatural way at that moment. It intertwined with him without him having to call it, and begged him to do as it willed instead of the other way around. Obi-Wan let the Force control him for a moment as he threw himself up and grasped the lightsaber, slicing through the Sith without a second’s thought. He watched the red and black torso fall down the reactor shaft in two separate pieces, panting as the yellow in his eyes recoiled and the blue returned.
Obi-Wan - bent over Qui-Gon’s lifeless body - had never felt so much rage before, if had ever felt rage. It was unfathomable and intoxicating, the taste of power he’d had in that moment was like a drug. He’d let the dark side take over him - something he’d sworn to never let happen - and had killed - a villain but a man nonetheless.
The next time he let it engulf him was during the First Battle of Geonosis. Afterwards, he remembered very little from the fight, just the darkside that had consumed him.
Obi-Wan had swung his lightsaber so calculatedly that all his fellow Jedi had seen only grace in it, and nothing of the dark behind each slice. He’d cut down numerous droids and a living creature - one trying to kill him but a living creature nonetheless - without thinking, fueled only by the anger that consumed him every time he saw another Jedi’s body fall and hit the unforgiving ground of the desert.
Anakin had never seen his Master so enraged and aggravated as he watched through a pain filled gaze as Obi-Wan battled Dooku. Through the pain Anakin had not seen the yellow in Obi-Wan’s eyes, the blue long gone.
Dooku - however - had seen it, yet felt that it was not a yellow he would ever stand beside.
As Obi-Wan fought and fought, his anger from seeing his Padawan injured was like Qui-Gon’s death all over again, and he was emotionlessly fighting with all of his strength.
When the fight was over, the yellow had dispersed again and left all witnesses bemused and bewildered, thinking they must have hallucinated the pure anger.
The next time Obi-Wan cracked was a battle early on during the War, when he’d lost dozens and dozens - maybe even hundreds - of troopers.
Cody watched in horror as his General emerged from the trench beside him and leapt into the battle, slicing down every battle droid near him. He saw the burning rage the colour of orange-yellow in his General’s eyes and instantly missed the calm blue sea he was so familiar with.
This side of his General was cold and passionate, fierce and determined. He turned the tides of the battle so fast many Clone troopers didn’t understand what was going on. Cody rushed to his side - in an attempt to check on Obi-Wan - only to flinch back at the yellow glare at the droids and the snarl he was met with - although not directed at him.
The cruel yellow was something Cody grew used to, and he began to slowly and increasingly hate the colour. The only thing it brought him was fear and worry, and it didn’t help that it was the battalion’s colour.
Cody expected Obi-Wan’s eyes to be cold like you would expect, but instead, they were a burning hot fire. They held such heat they burnt anyone who came near, and there was only so much one could do for burns like these - more emotional and mental than physical.
It quickly became clear to everyone - including the Jedi and their council - that Obi-Wan had been consumed by the dark side, but he was no Sith. He was still loyal - as he always had been and always would be - to the Jedi, but now, he had new abilities, new strengths.
He was a dark-side-user amongst light-side-users, a blazing fire in a sea of cool calm.
But he was no Sith.
Hope you enjoyed! Request pls!!!!!!!!!!!

Unnamed drabble based on @swdestinies fancomic by @lledra-fanstuffs.
Summary: Canon talks to Cin and Kebiin.
***
Canon never thought about how much love he had in his heart. He only knew that he's a soldier, and soldiers are not supposed to be sentimental.
But that day — or, saying correctly, that evening — changed his life. Two precious boys, his younger brothers genetically, accidentally broke in Canon's usual course of daily routines.
And Canon discovered a big love in himself.
These twins were catchy: Kebiin had long straightened soft hair, Cin had a birthmark on his left cheek. They were together almost always, being a pair of the active and noisy one and the silent and timid one. They cared about each other.
Canon could not hesitate to think about these twins every day. He was aware that a good soldier better don't love someone in any way, but this love addressed to two little boys was... unusually warming. Canon wanted to save Cin and Kebiin from any bad things that could happen with them.
After his last mission Canon tried not to think about Cin and Kebiin too much. He distracted himself by bandaging his wounds, doing his usual evening routine, reading books — but nothing of it was actually helping. Canon left his room and went to younger cadets' barracks.
Cin and Kebiin were right in their room when Canon was looking for them. Cin lied on Kebiin's knees, while he was gently stroking his short cropped hair.
— May I come in? — asked Canon carefully.
— Of course! — answered Kebiin and opened the door. Seeing his eyes, Canon felt that his heart skipped a beat.
— We missed you so much! — said Kebiin and sat down to his bed. Cin, half asleep, laid back on his knees and murmured:
— Hello. How was your mission?
— Great, — answered Canon. — I missed you too.
— We're glad to see you in our barracks again! — said Kebiin as if informing, but with happiness in voice. — Last time when we met you were so gentle with us. No one of our commanding staff behaved theirselves like this.
— Especially Bric, — added Cin.
— Yes, and especially Bric! He's still thinking that we're a true garbage! — Kebiin frowned.
With a soft smile Canon hugged both twins, patting their heads after that.
— Tomorrow is my day off, — he said. — I can teach you how to play dejarik. Would you like to play it with me?
— But what if Bric will be mad at us two? — asked Cin.
— I will not let him to be mad at you. Never. I promise.
Cin and Kebiin smiled, drowning in Canon's soft hugs.
