part 31 / old man ☆

important note!! there is the implication of a panic attack in this part so if that makes u uncomfortable, please do not continue reading! i am sorry in advance if i offend anyone by the way i write out the panic attack. i have not experienced one before and am basing the information solely on research i have done beforehand as well as the experiences of my friends. and for anyone who has experienced a panic attack, U R ONE OF THE STRONGEST PEOPLE EVER!

“geez, the school needs to start providing free umbrellas or something!” coach ukai exclaimed. he stared at his two players and team manager– tetsu, kozume, and yn were all dripping wet and shivering from the intense weather. “we’re ending practice a bit early so just grab a towel and dry yourselves up a bit or go take a quick shower in the locker room so you at least don’t catch a cold before the game next week.”

“yes, coach.” the three nodded, quickly making their way to the showers.

“yn!” mori called out, running up to his friend with a hoodie in hand. “change into this after so you’re not cold.”

yn eyed the material, smirking once she realized who it belonged to. “did rinnie give this to you?” she mused, “ohoho, so are you guys talking or what?”

“oh shut up, go take a shower. you smell like wet dog.” mori grumbled, shoving the hoodie into yn’s arms. yn giggled, thanking mori before heading into the girls locker room.

(note: guys.. i don’t actually ship mori n rin LOL js a disclaimer bc ik (or im pretty sure) they like haven’t met in the actual series…? they’re more of a sub-plot like cece n tetsu bc i love side character lore! anyways back to the storyyy)

once yn was done freshening up, she joined coach ukai and mr. takeda on the bleachers to talk about the game. "the team is looking good," coach examined. he watched as the players went up against each other in a quick match. "i just don't know what to do about kozume and keiji." he rubbed the back of his neck, deep in thought as he analyzed the papers yn gave him last practice.

"what do you mean?" yn asked. she didn't recall writing anything weird about the two.

coach ukai shrugged. "maybe it's because i've known these kids since they were freshmen, but something just feels off between the two. i compared your notes from the beginning of the semester to last week, and there's a slight decline in their abilities."

yn furrowed her brows, taking the papers from coach ukai to see the difference herself. "a decline?" her eyes scanned the data and much to her surprise, he was right. kozume's agility went down by 2.5% and keiji's been struggling to successfully set the ball up for kou which puts the team at a big disadvantage since kou is normally always on the court and has the most trust in keiji to send him the ball.

(note again: idk what i js pulled out of my ass w this one >o< i don’t play volley but wtvr! :3)

"speaking of kozume and keiji, where are they?" mr. takeda piped up. tetsurou finished showering at the same time as yn and was currently talking to a few members, assumingly giving them tips for next week, but kozume was still nowhere to be seen. there couldn’t have been only one working shower right?

"bokuto!" coach ukai called out, "where's your setter?"

"uhh-" kou looked around, "not on the court, coach!"

keishin groaned. "well, obviously.."

"keiji is in the locker room, pretty sure.” kei answered instead. he heard the setter excuse himself to grab something in the locker room, but what would he need in there when they usually dropped their things off on the bleachers? the middle blocker shrugged it off, not caring too much about his upperclassman.

“uhm i think kozume is also still in there.” shoyou added. his eyes met yn’s, both of them starting to feel a bit uneasy after talking about the two last night. “do you want me to go grab them?” keishin sighed, motioning for shoyou to retrieve the two missing players.

as shoyou neared the red-painted metal doors, his ears picked up keiji’s voice. he sounded annoyed. really annoyed. “you can’t be seriously telling me you won’t leave yn alone, right? right? kozume c’mon,” keiji laughed in mockery, his voice was getting a bit louder, but not loud enough to reach the ears of the other people on the other side of the gym. “you’re just going to keep hurting her. she doesn’t deserve that. you don’t deserve her.”

“like you have any place to talk,” kozume barked back. though not as aggravated as keiji, kozume was firm with his words. “you made yn feel unimportant the whole time the two of you were in a relationship. you were the one who had an interest in her first, yet you barely took the time to show any effort. you couldn’t even go to one of the most important events in her life! she worked so hard, she always does, for the annual art exhibition, but you forgot about it.”

“i had an important meeting that day-” keiji tried to reason.

kozume only scoffed. “oh please.”

“okay. fine.” shoyou could hear heavy footsteps. keiji was corning kozume into the lockers. he pressed an accusing finger against his chest. “missing the art exhibition was a dick move, but am i the one who’s going for their friend’s ex? am i the one who would publicly reject yn, yet give her mixed signals behind closed doors, continuously confusing her and manipulating her feelings? am i the one who can’t make up his mind, slowly declining yn’s mental and emotional well-being? no, kozume, i’m not. you are. know your place. yn doesn’t need you.”

it was quiet for a few seconds before shoyou could hear keiji’s footsteps walking toward the door he was pressing his ear against. in a quick panic, the ginger hid behind a nearby scoreboard until he saw keiji far enough to where he wouldn’t see the worried sophomore slip into the locker room.

“kozume!” shoyou cried out. the blond was in a fetal position on the floor against the lockers. he rocked back and forth, the frantic movement almost causing him to hit his head against the hard metal. his breathing was short and unstable, almost like he was choking. it was even more difficult to breathe due to his strained cries. the state of his close friend made shoyou sick to his stomach, his body trembled, not knowing what to do. “what- whats happening?!” he tried to prevent kozume from accidentally injuring himself, but once his hand made contact with kozume’s shoulder, the blond slapped his hand away.

“don’t touch me!” he cried out. his eyes grew in panic, everything around him was overwhelming him past his limit.

shoyou fell back at the sudden impact, “kozume-”

“i’m sorry,” kozume dug his head back into his arms. “i’m sorry i’m sorry i’m sorry i’m sorry i’m sorry-” he repeated the same words over and over again, each apology more desperate than the last. ‘i hit shoyou? why did i hit shoyou?’ “i didn’t mean it- i didn’t i-” his voice was restless, saying the same thing over and over as his mind grew louder by the second. ‘i hurt shoyou. i hurt yn. i can’t stop. i don’t know what to do. i can’t stop. it hurts. everything hurts. i hurt yn. my heart wont shut up. it’s so loud. everything is so loud. please shut up. please shut up. shut up. shut up. shut up-’

“kozume i don’t know what to do!” shoyou sobbed. the situation was getting to much for him, he needed to call someone for help. “i’m going to get yn, she’ll know what to do-”

“SHUT UP.” shoyou stopped in his tracks, body cold at the sudden yell. kozume’s head jerked up at his own words, disbelief written across his face. was he the one who yelled that? “please don’t get yn. please- shoyou please.” he was tirelessly begging. tears constructing his vision enough to not even know if shoyou was opening the door or not. “please. please don’t call yn. i don’t- she can’t know. please. i’m sorry i yelled. i’m sorry- just. just- don’t move.”

shoyou slowly removed his hand from the door handle. his movements were slow, scared that he might suddenly alarm kozume again. he squeezed his eyes shut, breathing long and slow to calm his nerves so that he could at least provide some sort of ease to kozume. “okay…” he whispered, slowly opening his eyes. shoyou bent down to kozume’s level, leaving a foot of space between them as he tried to calm the blond’s nerves as he just did his own. “it’s okay koz. it’s okay.” continuing the breathing exercise he was previously doing, shoyou used his hands to motion each inhale, each hold of breath, and each exhale.

“i’m sorry.” kozume murmured, unable to meet shoyou’s gaze. he was slowly regaining stable breathing, the pain in his chest diminishing.

“don’t apologize!” shoyou scolded. “i’m the one who should say sorry, kozume.” the ginger choked back his tears, refraining from overwhelming his friend. “i didn’t know what to do and i couldn’t help you..”

kozume shook his head, “you did help, sho. thank you.” a small smile graced his features, reassuring his friend.

the two sat in silence for a few minutes until shoyou decided to let his curiosity flow free. “kozume, can i ask you something?” the blonde nodded. “what's happening between you and keiji? and why can’t yn know about this? why are you hiding it from her?”

kozume let out a weak laugh. “that’s more than just a something.”

“sorry, i just don’t get it!” shoyou whined. “yn likes you, a lot, and i thought you really like yn too. so why are u letting keiji get in the way and talk you down like that? why are you so afraid of letting yourself be happy?”

the familiar question rang through kozume’s mind. a previous conversation from tetsurou suddenly resurfacing.

“are you afraid of letting yourself be happy or something? look, i’m not saying you should’ve prevented keiji from asking yn out, but you’ve liked my sister since what? the second grade? and you just let some new guy sweep her off her feet? that’s just crazy, man! i know for a fact that he could never have the same connection you and her have, trust me, i’m like psychic or something. i know you’re the better person–- the only person, actually, for yn.”

“it’s not that…” kozume groaned. “i’m afraid that…if yn and i do become something more than what we are now, i’ll disappoint her more than i already do. what if, once we start dating, she realizes she doesn’t actually like me?”

shoyou frowned. keiji’s words were dug deep into kozume’s heart. nothing he could say, no amount of reassurance could ever directly change kozume’s mindset. it needed to come from her–

knock. knock. knock.

“sho? kozume? are you guys okay? i- uhm we’re getting worried…you two have been in there for a long time, is everything okay?”

there she was. the only person who could dissolve all of keiji’s cruel words from kozume’s distraught soul.

“sorry, we’ll be out in a sec, nn!” shoyou called out. he reached a hand out for kozume to take. “are you okay to go outside?”

the blonde took a deep breath. “we have a game next week, don’t we?” he placed his hand on shoyou’s, pulling himself up.

the two opened the door to reveal yn’s big doe eyes brimming with concern. “what happened? did you lose your towel? was the water too cold?” she enveloped kozume’s hands into her own, feeling the difference in temperature. “if you didn’t have any warm water, you should’ve told us! taking a cold shower after being soaked in the rain isn’t good for you!”

“hey!” coach ukai irked, already frustrated that kozume would only have less than an hour to practice. “stop feeling the boy up and let him get his ass to work!”

yn’s eye twitched at the suggestive assumption. she quipped her head at keishin and flipped him off. “shut up, old man!”

things i think should (should’ve?) happen in DL before it dies (if it’s not already dead??)

carla, shin, & kino character songs. i know kino already has imitation game, dystopia, & count off, but i don’t count them! carla & shin also deserve their own songs & not just solo versions of operation x

a song with all 13 diaboys. that sounds so chaotic & so fun 😭 that should’ve been for the 10th anniversary honestly

bats can purr. i would love if they gave us at least one fluffy scenario with our boys where it happens 😔🙏 i’m also talking about all 13 boys doing this btw don’t think i’d leave your boy out of this. it would be so catboy of kou to purr dude cmon let him be the bat-catboy he is, rejet! & the tsukinami’s could totally purr! even if they aren’t technically vampires, they can turn into bats, right? like how shin turns into a wolf. so they’ve got that dna in them! but also consistency hardly matters to rejet. so yeah i think this could work. also i think it’d be cute to hear each boy purr, no matter how jarring it might be coming from some.

it will always be weird to me that they didn’t make versus songs of the rivals. like kanato & azusa. like cmon you had yuki kaji & daisuke kishio in the studio for that versus cd drama & didn’t use their godly voices for a song together??? i really don’t understand why they haven’t made sakamaki mukami duet songs by now. the only thing close is bad howling where kou replaced subaru..

also isn’t it strange how the mukami’s didn’t get any more solo songs?? each sakamaki got 3 character songs per boy (if you don’t count the ending songs sung by ayato), the mukami’s only got one each. although neither of the tsukinami’s got real character solo’s so it could be worse 💀

animating some of the tokuten cd dramas. this is also something they could’ve done for the 10th anniversary. although, i’m not really that hung up over this. it’s just something that’d be cool. animation is expensive. plus DL getting another anime, especially one so different from the original, would be even stranger for the anime only’s to see.

a little self indulgent but i really want a cd drama line where the boys are in our role.. like i wanna see them be the M’s for once. (aside from u azusa, you already give us both <3 but i would love to see more of it so-) i would also honestly love if we were the vampire this time. pls tell me i’m not the only one who’s really interested in that concept. just once at least? please rejet hear my pleas (though idk how they’d be able to do it now..)

if we had to get another game, i personally want it should be like VC or LP. some of my favorite routes come from those games, & i think kino lovers deserve to have a route like that with their boy.

man.. wouldn’t it have been funny if some of these things were gonna happen before the cheating scandals with tatsuhisa suzuki & takahiro sakurai 💀 i really wonder what the new drama cd & those character songs announced in house of vampire were gonna be like…….. will we ever find out…? rejet..?

Could you do an analysis on what Hanako’s life was like when he was human? And his relationship with the “fake” Tsukasa

As in the time gap between Tsukasa jumping in the hole and until he killed Tsukasa because in the 4pm book stacks, when spider face was cleaning up his wounds I see handprints on his wrists which kind of imply Tsukasa (or someone else) did…things

Also do you feel that the manga implies that sort of thing between Amane and Tsukasa too?

I am not very interested in Hanako’s relationship with Tsukasa, so I can't do a 'proper' analysis. But I’ll share some thoughts.

I personally don’t believe there is a ‘fake’ Tsukasa, he has always been weird, he never told anyone that the ‘god’ under the house copied his speech and he didn't show any hesitation or remorse about sacrificing animals to get his wishes.

Which was all to grant Amane's wishes, a brother he decided he would die for since four. He has been obsessed with Amane since way before learning Amane would kill him.

The only thing the “God” inside Tsukasa seems to have truly done is stunt his growth (he still acts like a child) and give him knowledge a normal human shouldn’t know.

Still, the horror child framing of this change is in the mom's point of view: Amane seems happy.

And Amane’s joy remains for years.

When Nene travels to the past and meets Amane, who appears to be at the very least eight years old, it is heavily implied he didn’t come with his parents, just Tsukasa.

At this point in the story, I don’t think he was being abused, physically or emotionally: He is eager to trust and help Nene, who is a stranger, and he displays a lot of confidence, honesty, and joy. Not being scared even when Nene try to steal his wishing paper.

He doesn’t seem particularly troubled with his family either. He ever implies a member of his family is crazy, or shows intentions of wanting to use his slip to ‘heal’ them, as a kid as sweet as him would likely be inclined to do. He seems a bit lonely cause his bro was focusing on something else that he can't interrupt instead of keeping him company, but that's about it.

And in Shijima's world they are buddies, which would be... weird... if Tsukasa had hurt him.

But I’ll be honest, considering how old this plot point is, Amane’s injuries are extremely vague. It could be anyone.

Maybe something happened, and Tsukasa got violent, and clingy to the point of being hurtful, maybe his parents snapped and Amane couldn't blame family, maybe is a third party, maybe is a curse, I don’t know, I don't plan to re-read the entire manga to get a better feel on it, but since you asked for my opinion, I personally think this turn for the worst in his life is partially the red house fault, and partially Amane’s own actions.

Let’s rewind a bit.

Tsuchigamori, or spider face, said the only person to alter their own fate was Amane. Not Tsukasa, who was influenced by future Kou, or Nene, who is always seeing the past: Just Amane.

Changing the future is such a big deal it became Tsuchi’s yorishiro, the spider can’t get over it. So I would say it is important to consider Amane's ‘normal’ future.

What changed Amane’s wish? What made him give up?

It wasn’t Tsukasa’s disappearance or reappearance. It was his meeting with Nene.

These slips are a big deal.

We are told they are rumored to make your wish come true in a land of supernaturals where every rumor so far was true. And that it is so hard to get all the five colors, that Yako was never able to, and she is an old spirit.

And the wording Amane used is... Concerning.

As the astronomy teacher he was fated to be, Amane would have never met Nene again, and even in the case he was still teaching by the time she was a student, she would have not been an ‘onee-san’ anymore: He needed to die before 14 for her to stay an onee-san when they met again all those decades later.

I do think the red house and Tsukasa and so on plays a big part in Amane’s fucked up life, but it is strange he only got injured and “gave up going anywhere” after meeting Nene and putting his wish on the Tanabata tree.

We have no info on this part of his life though so it’s anyone’s guess.

{BEFORE READING AHEAD DISCLAIMER!! No I do not think churches are like this and I do not mean to offend anyone. This is my AU of Sumire being in a 'catholic' AU as a nun. She's more in a cult that poses itself as a 'church'. AGAIN I DO NOT MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE, }

𖧷ɤ— "..I have.. Given everything... I have given it my all to believe there is a god.. Now I know there is one... That god that took fathers identity, is gone... Now that father finally can be in his true place... Fufu.."

As a young girl, Kyuufu still had placed in her head that he was her god in the living world. 'You have two gods, me and our holy one.' he said as he drown her more into "cleansing water". She happily let him shove her head in there still she couldn't breath in hopes she'll believe in her spirit god and become clean as she is still sinned and dirty.

But someone's sanity can only be so sane for so long, two gods just two gods. However.. Father is plenty more worthy of being up there ruling it all right? It only took a few stabs in the gut and heart for her to know she now has a god she knows truly exists. This lifeless body in front of her.. Her father was finally in the correct place.

However, the church would come to find out their priest was murdered by the nun, his daughter no less. In panic they send her away to a separate church to 'cleanse' her. Little did she know the people there have done far worse sins then her.

𖧷ɤ— "..It's sad... That all of these people refuse to look into the right picture... And see that sins are not redeemable, and they deserve to parish... However, it is only their choice to walk the right path when they are in front of deaths door..."

People would soon come to question her in the new church. Just what was there to fix about this girl? She seemed to be so in love with her god, even had every word, page, person memorized that they turned a blind eye. Not the 'non human' boys however, the priests would find her intriguing by her beliefs and morals. She, as a loyal nun she become to her newly church would be on her hands and knees to them. She was still a foolish human Afterall.

Following their wants, and requests. It quickly became her job to keep a watchful eye for any sinners, or mistreatment within the 'church'. And report back, and pray behind the door while she heard her beloved priests murder the unfortunate soul. Father have mercy on them when they arrive she think.

𖧷ɤ—"I am more then willing to give up my everything... Please my father... Please take my mortality away from me so I can be yours... For our love is more powerful then our god itself..."

She kneels before him. The one she has chosen 'till death to us part'. But she wishes not to be with him unless she is him, she can not be with him forever until her mortality is gone.

Perhaps she's willing to give herself another physical god, one whom she'll cherish, and do his every biding of getting rid of pesky sinners. But just who is this man? You the reader decide, how nun Sumire's path will go.

kou cl endings!

euphoria end:

ruki, with the use of shin’s super good nose, is chasing kou and yui through the forest. yuma and azusa were left behind to fight ayato and kanato. kouyui reach the church and rest there, and kou talks about how pathetic he feels that he couldn’t protect her enough :’( but yui’s like “nooo! u came to rescue me and you were so cool!”

just when kou is talking about how he can’t stand to fight ruki, who saved him when he was in the orphanage, ruki shows up like “tough shit, we’re fighting anyway.” kou pulls out his sword and ruki asks if he thinks he can win, to which kou replies, “NOPE but I have to try!!!”

during the sword fight, kou can tell ruki isn’t seriously trying to kill him. so he lowers his sword to let ruki strike him, but as he expected, ruki stops right before his sword makes contact. but even though that proves how close he is, it’s still not enough to bring back ruki’s memories. so kou takes drastic measures and gets himself hurt on purpose!!! ;-; and that works! ruki is back!!!

…but it looks like kou is, uh, dying. ruki thinks it’s all his fault. yui is inconsolable. but then ruki’s like, “wait a sec.” and he tastes the blood (lmfao I was so shocked) and then asks yui to taste it too.

I know this sounds like I’m making shit up but you have to believe me. it’s not blood, it’s ketchup. kou fucking pranked them. kou used the ivy to make armor underneath his clothes, so he’s totally fine. yuma taught him how to make that. everybody say thanks, yuma!

(if there was ketchup everywhere, wouldnt it smell like ketchup? like, really strongly? especially to a vampire nose?)

kou and yui kiss in the church, and u might remember that that’s the key to leaving this place, so the world falls apart and we wake up in eden. in the order im playing, kou is only the second one so far to complete socrates’ experiment in the “proper” way, so socrates is like “hell yeah, great job!” then he explains his whole plan as usual. kou’s like “FUCK you, dont EVER do that again” and socrates peaces out. he says he won’t appear again. that’s kinda sad, he’s a great plot device :’)

so everybody goes to their respective homes and stops fighting. the final scene is kou and yui deciding they’d be late for school so they can cuddle on the couch some more. yui prays these days will last forever.

it would’ve been really nice to get a mukami family reunion scene…!! but I guess we dont always get what we want, do we? lol

labyrinth end:

…kou can’t fight ruki :( he drops his sword instead. he apologizes over and over, because this means giving up yui, but yui tells him he’s done nothing wrong.

so kou and yui are taken and locked up separately. ruki tortures kou for several days, trying to get kou to give him info on how to become the overlord. eventually, shin comes to check on yui (who isnt eating) and to tell her that kou died. tortured to death! yui’s like “but he’s a vampire!” and shin’s like “vampires can TOTALLY die from that.” but yknow, he’s lying, as shin tends to do

well, yui fell for the lie, and shin just so happened to leave her alone with the knife that came with her dinner. shin is a fucking idiot. yui kills herself like immediately. was it worth the stupid joke, shin?? did u have fun??? everybody’s gonna yell at him later, I just know it.

everybody (kou included, cuz he’s NOT DEAD) is in eden. kou wakes up and sees his gf bleeding from her neck. she wont open her eyes.

CHAPTER 107 FINALLY RELEASED!! I haven't thought of making an post about my thoughts to it but eh- here we are xD

sharing this moment because tsukasa getting punched in the face is something we never saw before and i love it

I love how patient and welcoming Tsukasa is with Baby Nene…

And, dang- It even feels like Tsukasa and Nene's personalities have been switched- Baby Tsukasa was so patient and kind and calm, while Baby Nene is being so impatient and irritating and energetic xD

Meanwhile; Older Nene is calmer, more mature (and immature at times…) and patient, while older Tsukasa is more chaotic, manic and impatient lol

I really love this stark contrast between their personalities and it just forces the idea of how similar they both are. They are both chaotic in their own way and I love them❤

It seems to me that he made the situation worse by entertaining her.. Don't worry Tsukasa, u got this!

I usually dislike kids for various reasons, but I can't help the fact that seeing kids being as excited and energetic as Nene is right now it's adorable and so comforting- lol

I hate to say I don't believe him.

That's how done I am with him. He's apologized before but he didn't mean it.

And I'm aware that people should pay attention to his INTENTIONS more but he still looked sinister as fuck and how he expected Nene to just- be ok until she forgot?-

Ugh....I just- have lost faith in him. I'm done giving him the benefit of the doubt when I have for half this series. (Teru stans aren't born right when you start reading)

So as much as I would like to I don't believe him.

He's done this shit before and I'm confident he'll do it again. That's why I believe Teru's been right this entire time. Especially about Hanako. He's told Kou that he's dangerous and Kou didn't listen. It cost so much pain. It just- seeing how being connected to supernaturals have affected the living characters in this series just makes me wish people saw that Teru WAS right.

Even if not ALL supernaturals are bad he was definitely right. Most are.

With the reveal of Nene's life being tied to the school mysterys it just makes you think that in the beginning we were trying to take down the school mysterys.

Nene wouldn't have gone through ANY of this shit if she didn't fuck with supernaturals.

And Akane- him being distanced from Aoi and like- she hates lying. She hates that Akane's lied to her. And why was that? Smh

Teru WAS right. Getting involved with supernaturals will only be bad.

You can argue that Hanako has saved the living and helped before. And yes. He has and I see that because well- that's his fucking job.

I respect the arguments to defend Hanako. But people need to realize they can't use it to justify his actions currently.

The arguments were good for the time. But you can't use an old argument to justify the now.

With all of this. I just can't believe him. And I'm not sorry. Teru's been a way more reliable side then Hanako ever has.

Hanako will always do something that's even tho it had good intentions just- rubbed you the wrong way. Teru you can always expect to do something people would never be willing to do. He gets the job done even if it's cruel.

The difference is that Hanako only wants Nene to live.

Teru wants EVERYONE to live.

They have such similar jobs but at the same time so different.

Hanako has just...disappointed me.

And I'm not gonna feel obligated to forgive him when all he's done is say sorry.

Basically.

I don't believe him. He's lied before. He'll do it again.

Why do you think Teru's been able to mark off Hanako perfectly?

Whether Hanako will still do unforgivable things to get what he wants is up to him now.

i’m gonna start this off with saying that kou minamoto is literally my favorite character ever so don’t think i’m doing this because i hate him i just think about him way too much and this is where i end up after thinking for too long

i have SO MUCH to say about this but i’m gonna throw it under the cut bc i don’t wanna catch ppl off guard with my insane bullshit

if ur reading this and u get upset it’s ur own fault /hj

alright SO

first off kou definitely should’ve died during the pp arc just for shits and giggles. it would’ve been like a “what the fuck just happened” for every character and the whole fandom and the chaos that would’ve ensued from the death of a major character would’ve been absolutely WILD- like bitch just killed himself. he straight up committed suicide. there’s no way of rephrasing that bc that’s what he did. it would’ve been a plot-shattering moment and really just heartbreaking and awful and aidairo could’ve done so much with it.

for one, mitsuba would’ve been very Not Ok because he would’ve blamed himself for kou dying and he’d definitely try to gaslight himself into believing kou was still alive- that would not work btw he’d just be in insane denial

anyway imma move on from that arc even though i could go into it so much deeper and focus on things that i could see happening just to make the story hella interesting (i’ve been very tempted to write a fic about this so beware)

i think the most likely ways kou would die would either be suicide or being killed by tsukasa. we’ve already seen him attempt to kill himself, thwarted by mitsuba then brushed aside for some reason, and i’m about to do a full ass analysis on why tsukasa should murder our boy :3

reiterating that I LOVE KOU MINAMOTO WITH MY WHOLE HEART HES PERFECT

okay so tsukasa. hes a silly guy. one of his main traits is he loves to fuck with people, right? right yeah whatever get to the point IM WORKING ON IT ok sorry anyway he’s silly right. he thrives off fucking people up as much as possible. since he knows fucking everything i’m gonna assume he knows how important kou is to mitsuba and, given the fact that it’s so easy to fuck with mitsuba, he’d know that messing with kou in some way would make the biggest impact. every way he messes up mitsuba’s (after)life doesn’t emotionally impact him for too long, given the fact that he and kou with it out every time. but what happens when we take out the support system? that’s what we wanna know.

so ofc tsukasa feels all silly goofy and takes out kou just for funzies. mitsuba is absolutely fucking destroyed in every way. he blames himself, duh. this splits off into 2 possible scenarios that i’ve created lol.

possibility one: mitsuba stays in his boundary for god knows how long, refusing to talk to anyone. eventually he goes to shijima, begging for a replacement kou. even if hes fake, it’s better than nothing, right? shijima understood his grief, in a way. so, she gave in. boom. kou copy. the rest was none of her business.

kou copy only knows what shijima knows about him, so let’s go with everything up until the end of the picture perfect arc. he has no idea about anything after, including the aquarium date, the far shore incident, and the supernaturals being banished from the near shore in the first place, and it’s fine that way. …right? well, that means he also doesn’t know that he’s supposed to be dead.

he keeps asking mitsuba when he can leave the boundary and go home, when he can go see senpai, when he can see his brother, and he’s very upset. mitsuba has no idea what to do. he was overjoyed to have his crush best friend back that he didn’t even think of what would happen after… he couldn’t let kou out of the boundary. that was out of the question. keeping kou here would make him miserable and make him hate mitsuba. so at this point they’re stuck in a cycle of shouting matches of wether or not kou is allowed to leave, periods of silence, and occasional truces because they both need someone to keep them sane, and who else can do it but each other?

possibly 2: supernaturals are a thing in this world, so why can’t kou be one too? even though tsukasa is the one who killed kou in the first place, mitsuba begs him to bring kou back, to make kou a supernatural just like mitsuba. mitsuba knows what being a supernatural feels like. he knows that just letting kou go would be so much better for the dumb blonde boy. he knows that kou deserves better than to be forced to live in a world that doesn’t want him anymore. but mitsuba is selfish. so tsukasa makes kou into a supernatural. for funzies, you know? he’d never worked with a human corpse before, so why not try out making one into a supernatural?

the process of making a supernatural is… messy. mitsuba now knows this, as he couldn’t look away from his boyfriend being made into one. it was horrific. i’m not gonna delve into it because i really don’t wanna think about that i’m so sorry my poor baby

just like with mitsuba, tsukasa didn’t have kou’s actual soul to work with, just supernatural parts and kou’s body. it was simply an animated puppet that looked like kou minamoto. “it’s fine,” mitsuba said, “it’s okay, he’s back, that what matters, right?” “it’ll be fine, right minamoto?” and as he looks to kou for support, all he gets in response is a blank look. he realizes, after staring in horror at the jagged scar on kou’s neck, that his vocal chords are absolutely fucked up beyond repair. he’d never hear kou’s voice again.

Walking on your way to school was no different from any other time you would walk with laito to school although today was different because while walking to school you and laito saw a family of five walking their dog and to your unawareness. You tried to follow his orders which was a little difficult givin your position you were in "a-arf arf" you managed to whimper out getting a satisfied laugh from laito, said vampire was only inches away from biting your neck "whine for me like you want me to bite you" he whispered in your ear and you whimpered out and he completed by biting your neck "ahahah it's so~ sweeet~" he moaned taking more of your blood into his cold mouth the feeling giving him shivers himself.... You had no idea what else he had planned for you this was merely the beginning.....

Of something entirely different you couldn't imagine the next thing he had planned all you could do was wonder as you melted beneath him submitting to him and the pleasure he was giving you you continued to whine like a little puppy his puppy.

just kidding! here’s a fluffy koutarou fic just for u!

pairing: bokuto kotaro x fem!reader content warnings: not many, fluffy as heckie, reader has boobies?, bokuto is tired, slightly suggestive part (he VERY LIGHTLY touches ur boobie *le gasp*) word count: 2,481 author's note: i tried my best not to include pronouns for the reader (if any mistakes please let me know!) though, as read in the tags, reader has boobies, reader is insecure, though it’s only mentioned at one part, kou literally loves you so so much.

it was late. so so late. and you were dead tired, yet you couldn’t fall asleep. you roll over, checking the time on your phone. you winced as you were momentarily blinded by the light which was emitted from it, before finally reading the three numbers which sat at the top of your screen.

dang.

at least it’s saturday tomorrow (today), and you don’t have to worry about waking up early and feeling groggy and exhausted during your day. when you do manage to fall asleep, you’d certainly not wake up before you’re ready, and there was absolutely nothing that could stop you.

that would’ve been great. really, it would’ve, except, after an hour, you STILL hadn’t managed to fall asleep. you had tried everything. you tried keeping your eyes open, keeping them closed, counting sheep, countless different sleeping positions, and yet... nothing. you were getting frustrated, and by this point, quite thirsty.

you groan and sluggishly get up off of your bed, put on some fluffy socks (knowing that the kitchen floor is freezing, especially at night) and take your blanket with you. you carefully peel the door open, just in case bokuto, your roommate, was home. you didn’t want to disrupt his sleep, knowing that he’s probably exhausted from practice today.

you loved having him as your roommate. and while, yes, at times, he could be a little messy and clumsy, he’s always been good with paying rent (surprisingly) and always amazing company to have.

other than the occasional clean up (which really isn’t that taxing) he was the perfect roommate.

and he always thanks you in his own way when you do, bringing home some delicious desserts and snacks to keep you happy once he’s realized what you’ve done for him. after dinner, you’d be watching movies, or simply having a conversation about your day on the couch, munching on the yummy food he’s bought, when he explains how he was going to take care of his mess after he came home from practice (even though you both know he was probably going to forget about it) it’s almost become a sort of routine.

a trade, if you will.

you do a little cleaning, and he brings you food in return. general maintenance and chores of the apartment were a given for you, and you actually kind of enjoyed doing them. it got your mind off of things and allowed a distraction when things at school/work got busy. picking up his small messes were barely an addition to your regular chores, so if anything, it was a win for you.

you silently cursed at the door as it squeaked open.

great. of course, things go exactly as you don’t want them to go.

that seemed like a reoccurring theme tonight (this morning)

you realized how silly it would look if anyone were to see you right now, frantically shushing an inanimate object, such as a door as if you were a librarian. you took a breath and held it when your door was finally wide open, worried that the prolonged screech of the door had woken up koutarou. you didn’t hear any shuffling from the thin walls that surrounded you. thank god.

he may never admit it, but you can see the tired bags that occasionally appear underneath his eyes. you could see he was tired most days. so incredibly tired, but he hid it.

in fact, he hid it very well. though, you’ve known him long enough, and lived with him long enough to know that it was only because he didn’t want to worry anyone he cared about. especially not you.

you slipped out of your room, not bothering to close the door and live through the inevitable squeak it’ll blare throughout the apartment.

you trudged to the kitchen and grabbed a mug (all the glasses were in the dish washer, and you were too lazy to open it even though you knew the cycle was done and they were clean) and filled it with water. you gulped it all down, then filled it once again. you drained the mug a second time and placed it rim down in the sink. you turned to go back to your room, but stopped in your tracks as you spotted a very tall, very muscled silhouette standing a couple meters away from you. you didn’t even hear him open his bedroom door.

frowning slightly, you take a step forward, hugging the blanket closer to you, as it has slipped from your shoulders while you drank from your mug. you’re about to apologize for waking him up, knowing how he’s likely exhausted, but before you could even utter a word, he interrupts you. his shoulders are slightly lifted, tense almost, but they drop when he takes in your appearance and he approaches you with the softest voice you’ve ever heard him use,

“oh my gosh, are you okay? why are you up so late?”

you observe his hair. it’s down and flowing so so gorgeously. it’s slightly messy and covering his eyes a little, yet you couldn’t think of a sight more beautiful. it was always so soft like this, without all the styling gel. he’s told you how he find his hair a bother when playing and how it would always get in his eyes. his iconic hairstyle not only resembled that of an owl, but allowed him to play at his full potential, without anything obstructing his view, and sticking to his forehead when sweat accumulated. in fact, he became so accustomed to the practical hairstyle it became his new norm anytime he went out, even to run simple errands.

still, like this, he looked softer. you figured that he probably took a shower when he got home from practice to wash off the days grime and sweat, resulting in the fluffy hairstyle. you knew that when his hair was like this, it was because he was comfortable. it was when he was the most relaxed and at ease. he had no where to be right now other than with you.

he takes three gentle steps towards you. it’s all he needed to be close enough to pull you into his chest, wrapping his arms around you in a warm hug.

you melt into his embrace, smiling and breathing in his scent.

he smelled good. familiar. like home.

you missed him so much.

it’s not like you don’t ever see him. you see him all the time. you live with him, for god’s sake. but that doesn’t mean you don’t miss his presence. he felt like home, too. wherever he is seems to be where home is. you wouldn’t consider this place your real home without him.

the hug lasts for a while. it seems like you both need it.

your souls mesh together and bond. it was only you and him in that moment, standing still in an embrace, while the moon still shone in the sky. the faint light came in through the window above the sink. it did little to illuminate the kitchen you were in, but the glow it emitted on the counter-tops felt so right, and so fitting.

you start to feel sleepy for the first time in a long time, and sense yourself sway lightly on your feet. he pulls away, steadying you by the waist, squeezing a little.

then, slowly but surely, he’s dragging his fingertips along your sides, up and up, along your rib cage. the blanket slips from your shoulders, onto the cold kitchen tiles. his hands continue their journey along your curves as his eyes follow every move. fingertips grazing the sides of your breasts through your thin top, you gasp lightly, and he stops. he looks into your eyes as you open yours to meet his. it was a mutual understanding. he knew what it meant. don’t stop. goosebumps followed in the path of his fingertips, dragging up your collarbones and neck. finally, his hands reach your face. he holds your jaw in both of his hands, cradling your face in the gentlest manner he can muster. it reminds you of how he held that baby bunny that one time you had gone to the pet store together.

it was a spontaneous decision. you were passing by some shops when you noticed the new store. knowing of your shared love for animals, you grabbed his arm and pulled him into the store on a whim. a few short minutes pass, and you’re walking along the many different sections, admiring and observing every single animal on the way. you find koutarou holding a tiny grey baby bunny, no bigger than a grapefruit. he has the fluffy animal in both of his cupped hands. his back is slightly curved over, his shoulders raised as he brings his palms closer to his face to inspect the little creature. his eyes are wide in awe as he watches it’s every move. when the little grey bunny twitched it’s tiny nose, bokuto unconsciously mimicked it.

you watched the interaction for five whole minutes without saying a word. you doubt he even knew you were there.

when it was time to leave, koutarou had a hard time letting go. he seemed to have grown attached to the bunny, and it hurt you too, seeing him let it go. you wanted to buy that bunny rabbit, just for him. to see him so happy everyday, but your apartment complex didn’t allow pets, and truthfully, you don’t know if bokuto was the best person to take care of a pet. especially one so young. they can be a lot of work, and lord knows koutarou is always busy.

he admires you for a while, examining your face. it was strangely intimate, and yet, you felt no urge to stop it.

you felt as though you had many flaws. you had acne, your skin wasn’t smooth by any means and you were quite insecure about many of your features. bokuto helped you understand that none of these things were flaws. not a single one. they were what made you you, and you are perfect just the way you are.

he brings his lips to your face, kissing softly. your nose, your cheeks, chin and forehead before stopping. he hesitates at your lips, unsure if he’s reading the situation wrong, if he’s making you uncomfortable. maybe this was too intimate for you? he thinks.

but as he looks into your eyes, he sees pure and utter love, admiration and desperation. he pulls you to him slowly, and your lips meet. it was so gentle and oddly vulnerable. when you pull away from each other, it was silent. you two’d never done that before, yet it felt so right. so normal and familiar.

he thinks of kissing you again. god, how he would love to kiss you again. though, he sees the exhaustion written over your face, and there’s no doubt that you see it on his too.

“you’re tired, aren’t you?” he whispers

you nod ever so slightly, and cuddle back into his chest, arms still wrapped around him.

he picks you up, along with your blanket and brings you to his room.

on any other day, you would have protested when he picked you up, but you were so tired, and he made it so look easy, that you didn’t even bother. if he was able to pick you up as swiftly and quickly when he’s exhausted as he does when he’s full of energy, there was no reason for you to question or worry. you know kou. and you know that when he wants to do something, he’ll do it. plus, you take such good care of him, there’s no way he couldn’t treat you like a princess.

he places you in his bed and you shiver slightly, already accustomed to his warmth. he quickly places your fluffy blanket over you and climbs into the bed to lay beside you. he then brings the comforter over both of you and you smile a little at the warmth and stability it provides. the slight weight of the layers was nostalgic. it comforted you in a way you could never understand, and you found it endearing that bokuto had remembered that tiny detail from your childhood.

“you feelin’ okay bunny?” he asks. you chuckle a little at the pet name.

“bunny?” you question. your eyes were closed as you spoke to him while smiling. “where’s that coming from?”

“i dunno, you just remind me of a bunny. soft, cute. it checks out all the boxes.”

“you think im cute?” you ask. you couldn’t stop smiling if you wanted to.

“let’s be honest here, y/n, who doesn’t think you’re cute?”

“me. i’m sure there are others.” you say lightly.

you can see his lips turn downward at the corners despite the darkness of the room, but he doesn’t press the matter any further, or say anything else.

in the silence, you reach your hand over and touch his hair. it makes his brain go fuzzy. it was like a massage, from you no less.

he was in heaven.

everything was warm and fluffy and perfect.

it didn’t take long for you to fall asleep. when he felt your fingers slow down and ultimately stop their twiddling in his hair, he knew you had finally fallen into your slumber. he smiles to himself, you’re so cute, he thinks.

he gently grabs your wrist and removes your hand from his hair and drapes it over your stomach.

he then positions himself in a way where he can comfortably hold you. you turn into him in your sleep and bury your face in his neck unconsciously.

his heart just about melts right then and there.

he can’t help but place a kiss right under your ear.

“i love you,” he says, barely above a whisper. “much more than i think i should. you’ve made me a better person, and every day, you make me realize that i have a reason to live. to continue to fight and to pursue my passions. hell, i pay rent on time, just for you. i can’t stand the thought of living with anyone else. sharing my space and my comfort with anyone else. it’s all for you, baby. and y’know, maybe one day, you’ll realize why i loved that bunny so much. why your my bunny.”

he swears he can see your lips twitch into a smile in your sleep, but all he does is close his eyes and allow sleep to take him over.

in your dreams that night, you hear a voice, an echo in the far distance, calling you a bunny. their bunny. someone tells you they love you. it’s familiar, but all too hazy.

what a strange dream.

maybe it’ll make sense when you wake up.

ahh i'm so glad you can see my ceo kousuke vision!! ✨ and you bring up great concerns re: yui, his own issues, his own wishes etc… there's A LOT that needs to happen for him to develop that potential and to even have the opportunity to take on that role… and tbh that's why i can only picture ceo kousuke the way i described him only after yui is defeated. because right, it would be basically impossible to do as long as yui is in power, especially if he's already gonna be dealing with all his personal stuff.

ceo kousuke is to me a possible conclusion to his character arc. we might never even see him "in action" and it's more like, the ending will show us that this is what his goal is now. i mean if he's like "fuck this company i'm gonna be a shepherd in the himalayas" or smth i'd respect that too lmao. but wouldn't it be sooo satisfying to see yui come so close to achieving her ultimate goal? if kousuke became the ceo like she planned, but instead of being her puppet, he'd end up thinking for himself and actively undoing everything she built? and like you said, he might currently not be very happy in this career, but if he had a different incentive and motivation to be the ceo, who knows? he might even find a bigger purpose and fulfillment in that position. wouldn't it be somewhat noble (mayhaps even gentlemanly wink wink) to try and make up for what his family has done? related to this, i can't help but think of the comment rand made to shinae in ch 89: "i have more respect for an honest individual that challenges rules and conventions than the dishonest that mindlessly follow and remain in comfort". i was immediately like !!! kousuke should hear this. if kousuke, as the ceo, challenges the status quo of the company and his family instead of mindlessly following it, he'd be exactly the kind of person rand would want him to be, and so he would even win the approval he initially wanted ;; yes yes rand already loves him and kou doesn't have to "earn" anything etc etc but ykwim 😗 it would just be the cherry on top ✨ if rand is even still alive at that point oh god rand please don't die yet ;A;

until we get to that point though, i have a strong suspicion that kou will be pretty much "trapped" for most of s2; by yui, by having to deal with yui, and also by all his internal, personal struggles. tbh i can't imagine him being able to make any significant moves because even the tiniest sign that yui might actually lose her most valuable pawn will trigger her, and who knows what this woman is capable of when she gets desperate or cornered 😶 my guess is it'll probably be up to the black team and especially shinae and nol, both characters who will be more "free" and have more power, to take yui down and, as a result, make it easier for kousuke to finally free himself. and i realize it sounds a lil bit like saving the princess from the dragon that keeps her locked in a tower fgshdfjk (is *that* why some characters call kousuke a princess sometimes :O am i onto something here? 👀) but hey i don't mean kousuke won't be doing anything, he'll likely be going through a lot of character development (like you said not a 180 but just realizing a lot about himself and yui and his past, dealing with all that, figuring out his relationship with nol etc etc) which in itself is already defying yui, isn't it? so that when the opportunity arises he can join the black team. obviously this is all just speculation and i'm staying open to anything but idk it's so fun so think about the possibilities for the future plot ~

on a side note, from a story structure perspective, it'd be interesting if there was a reversal between the brothers in terms of who is "trapped" (by yui), and who can "move". similarly to how in s1, team white has the upper hand, and we can expect a power shift to team black. in s1, nol was basically trapped and powerless - in the sense that all his attempts to change his situation have been futile, so he's mostly been going through a character transformation/deconstruction and sparking actions in other characters. it'd be pretty clever if, in turn, s2 focused more on kou's character development (while he's "trapped") and nol is the one who will be more "active". cause right, like you said, we can assume that the exposé will give nol stronger goals and, by damaging or weakening yui at least temporally, more freedom and "power" to move. and similarly, shinae, who has been pretty powerless, will gain more "power" by spending time in the corporate world/near yui and learning her language, both of them will essentially power up for the final showdown. is this even making any sense. i'm getting soooo carried away like [insert pepe silvia meme] do i sound like a crazy person. u can be honest with me LMAO 😭

(and there's definitely a certain appeal to nol going for the ceo position, taking the company from the hiraharas for good, reforming it and breaking the cycles of abuse and corruption, or simply dissolving it… for yui it'd be the worst nightmare that's for sure 👍🏽 but idk, something about "the underdog coming out on top" in the most obvious way feels a bit cliché, doesn't it? :/ especially since it's been hinted at so many times. i guess we'll just see, it strongly depends on how everything is executed either way ~)

LOVEEE what you said re: yui and shinae!!! <3 for shin, what i expect we're gonna see realistically is that even though she'll play yui's game (or pretends to), yui will never actually be able to "get her to the dark side" (not even with cookies. that was bad i'm so sorry) and i'm really looking forward to that because yui is used to getting everything she wants, but she can't have shinae, she can't corrupt her. shinae will continue to "shine light" no matter what. double-agent shin oh i really hope that's where the story is going WAH ! 💖 and future shinae looks so cool in the illustrations too, her energy is so different i'm so excited to meet this version of her!!!! 🤩

……….and fINE ok tbh the main reason ceo shinae came to my mind was that clip that was posted on patreon not too long ago (it's not up anymore unfortunately :<) where quim showed some prints, and two were of shinae/nol and shinae/kousuke on that armchair/throne and i couldn't help but be all 👀👀👀👀👀 the poses, body language, the clothing, the implications... i know it's bonus content and doesn't have to mean anything but we know with quim most things do mean something don't they?? and it just stood out to me that in the illustration with nol, shinae is dressed in a pantsuit (as opposed to her assistant outfit in the image with kou) and she's basically taking up the seat and he's positioned on the armrest behind her (no comment about neither shin or nol being able to sit on that chair normally but note taken), and sure it could be about their general dynamic and not anything business-related but my one lil stupid brain cell was still like "WAIT OHMYGOD WHAT IF!!!!!!!!!!" you've seen these illustrations bc i know they've been discussed before, you know what i'm talking about, right??

"Kousuke might end up at the same hospital as Nol to get checked out" ooh OOOOH that's possible!!! oh i swear this 3 day extention is planting all kinds of ideas in our heads bc it's pretty much the last opportunity to interact with nol before he goes to jail… who else might show up. rand? alyssa? minhyuk? YUI GOD FORBID?? 😭 (btw re: nol and kou - if the lovely artist ever shares the "get along shirt" drawing publicly, please give us the link if possible! <3)

AHHHH you hit me right in the feels talking about nol and shinae ;A; we're so on the same page when it comes to those two love that for us ! love that we can see the light 😌✨ no but, right. if they're not someone's cup of tea that's fine, but at least give this pairing and their dynamic and buildup and narrative purpose (role reversal; rand/nessa counterpart) the credit it deserves 😤 i can't help but feel like a lot of it has to do with how """problematic""" (more like flawed and messy) nol is, the boy has been quite controversial hasn't he (love that for him), and people tend to prefer the "cinnamon roll" male characters that make for "healthy" and "unproblematic" ships, because if a ship isn't perfectly smooth-sailing from the moment the characters fall for each other it's toxic right /s 🙄 or maybe it's about the immediate reward, because they think shinae x dieter would be easily digestible cute fluff sunshine romance forever (questionable given shinae's baggage but ok), whereas shinae x nol would have to "work" for it (for the lack of a better word)? but then again so much of ily has been about working on relationships, communicating and apologizing and adjusting to one another and making it work, and isn't that what (often) makes your relationship stronger? so why would a romance between nol and shinae be different? when has anything in ily ever gone smoothly?? LMAO give shinae and nol time they'll figure it out. a rocky start is actually a good thing because they'll learn early on where the problems are. and we've seen what they could be, what kind of potential they have, how much they care about each other! and yeah it'll take time to get there, but it'll be worth it!! sigh. anyways…

"There is now way we are moving into a time skip with Nol's walls all the way up!" SAME!!! i'm gonna riot LMAO jk actually it's kinda funny how we're currently on two cliffhangers: nana/shinae and yui/simhan (absolutely WILD character combination btw) so actually it'd be an opportunity to leave yui/simhan and jump back to shinae/nana :> but either way how exciting!!! btw how do you think the yui/simhan encounter will go? would either of them figure out who the other is, or would yui just immediately move on to find rand? i have such a bad gut feeling about simhan and it's horrible bc things were just starting to look up for him, now this? and the hint that he's gonna fall back into alcoholism or even die?? gosh please no ;;;

You told me take your time and then I DID ;_______; LMAO I promise you I was up to good things, practicing a lot of drawing and feeling really proud of myself and really fixating on that - til 231 came and knocked me on my ASS and unhinged me and now I've just been swinging from the rafters for half a week AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

But this is a message I was really looking forward to, so I'm still going to answer it and maybe it will temporarily ground me and subdue my unhinged feral streak (we'll see.... LMAO) I always look forward to these asks and getting to expand on thoughts or really dig into things I've never had to give reason for LMAOOOOOO

I agree that it's sooooo fun to speculate and think about all the ways things could go! Like, obviously the idea of Kousuke doing something other than CEO is because so many people want to see him in a position he can LOVE that he can be passionate about. But I think CEO Kousuke as a conclusion, as a goal to actively work towards for himself really does have some poetic justice to it even before we account for how it would be something so very in Yui's face which makes it so much more delicious. Sometimes life isn't about getting to follow our dreams but figuring out how to make of our circumstances something we can love or be proud of. That seems to be the path we'll see Shinae on, right? Is the corporate world what she wants? Does she have the mind and heart for business? And worse, being there of someone else's volition, no agency in her choice. That's what makes that conversation with Rand so enticing. He's right; Yui won't give up and it's almost inevitable that Shinae will remain in Yui's grasp, but if she finds a way to work it to her advantage, to use the experience to learn how to play Yui's game, at least it gives her agency. Letting Yui believe she's trapped, letting her believe that she's got Shinae under her thumb, allows Shinae that agency. And thus, the idea of Kousuke making an active choice to be a CEO, for his own ambitions, for his own desires, and to dismantle what his mother did, to take a leaf out of Nol's book and put good in the world to make up for what Hirahara Corp has done/been behind? Oh I LOVE it. And I love what it would say of Kousuke, of the choices he's making and why he is!

But frankly if he chooses to be a sheep herder I'm helping him pack his bags because I am WORRIED. His future looks so bleak right now no matter how things play out - whether or not he finds out Yui has been drugging him and he's actually able to believe it (and not, yknow, try to hide from the truth which is a perfectly reasonable response to your reality being completely upheaved) or how he chooses to cope with it. That one image really speaks volumes - the poster with the image in the puddle below them. He looks so miserable and generally unwell in their future. But this really ties into your point re: from a story perspective. Beginning the story with Nol the miserable one and Kousuke walking "freely" only to swap their roles IS incredibly interesting! It's a lot like Nol and Shinae switching roles after the formal. Frankly, it's always fun to watch mirrors switch places and swap situations, but especially so with Nol and Kousuke because of the whole history with their relationship. But from both a story perspective and in general as a fan, I think watching that role reversal but seeing it play out differently is what will set that apart. Nol could easily, without any blowback, carry on and leave Kousuke struggling in his dust, if he so wanted. The idea, though, of them eventually playing on the same team, as allies, is SO MUCH BETTER to me than any revenge plot. I LOVE broken families I LOVE tragic brothers and I really want to see them have each others' backs at some point.

To go into this further (and honestly we have probably talked a lot about this already but... yknow lol) Nol has written Kousuke off right now - but Nol doesn't know the full story. Kousuke has been his abuser of his own volition, but Kousuke was weaponized against Nol. Long before he ever faced him, Nol was subconsciously drilled into Kousuke's mind as an enemy and lord knows what else Yui has actually said of him. Seeing events like the night Nol was taken away altered and re-shaped by Yui's "versions" during vulnerable moments ensured that Nol would always be this volatile, violent monster in Kousuke's mind, even when it has become abundantly clear to the people in his life that this version of Nol doesn't align with what they know of him. This is stuff we already know lmao my point is: there is a lot that Nol doesn't know about what shaped and fueled Kousuke's fears of him and jealousy towards him, but also what fed his paranoia, why he was unable to ever see Nol for who he really is, could never see truth in his offerings of brotherhood and could only see him as someone trying to take his place. Nol, like Hansuke, is convinced that Yui loves Kousuke, that he has greatly benefited from the maternal care (something that was taken from Nol far too soon). He doesn't see that her motivations have never been for Kousuke's benefit. So likewise, while he knows Yui is a monster to him, he's got no idea she's a monster to Kousuke, as well. In his head it's Yui and Kousuke, a team.

I think we will see in Nol what Kousuke could not do - extending the hand to someone who needs him, even if it's in his best interests to let him suffer. Something I always come back to is that at Nol's core, he does care. He held out hope that one day he could reach Kousuke, that Kousuke would reveal some shred of love he'd hidden away. He cares about people, even strangers who he knew could use his (friendship) help. I repeat myself all the time but anti-hero Nol who turns cold in his quest for revenge doesn't feel right to me, it doesn't suit him. I love the idea of him being able to see that Kousuke, too, was at the mercy of Yui and that while yes, everything he did to Nol was of his own doing, it was fostered by Yui. It just feeds right back into that delicious hope of how good it would be to see Kousuke do everything Yui never wanted - to form some kind of alliance with Nol, no longer isolated and controlled by her. Team up with the very man who has been an alleged threat to the Hirahara name/family/fortune(???) all this while. GOD I want it so badly!!!!!!!!!! But also I think it would read SO WELL because it's what Kousuke could not, at this point in the story, do. Where Nol reached out and Kousuke confessed his darkest secret his darkest desire and left Nol alone, I want Kousuke to be in need of Nol's help and companionship, and Nol pull him up.

I know there are a lot of fans who DON'T want Shinae to take up Yui's offer because I think they do fear it means Shinae will be corrupted - that learning to play Yui's game means becoming Yui or something but yeah, like you, I think Shinae is the opponent Yui CANNOT convert. She's met countless girls and even guys who would do anything for the power and money they possess, who attached themselves to Kousuke in hopes it would rub off on them. Alyssa bends to her EVERY WHIM. Meg was so fun to play around with and harass her own son with. But Shinae has such strong convictions that I think she WILL be the worthy opponent, because she IS the light. I firmly believe in that, too. Shinae shines so that others can find their glow, too. She shines so that others can escape. She'll play the game, but on her own terms, in her own way, never stooping to become what Yui has. If anything, I think her convictions coupled with her experience will yield someone so much more powerful than she'd ever imagined, because while in the corporate world empathy can be a weakness, I fully believe Shinae will be able to wield hers to help and to detract from Yui. It's the BODY LANGUAGE and how it ties right into what we are hoping we'll get from Nol and Shinae's continued relationship, it's something about the CONFIDENCE and her expression, how SHE'S the only one really seated on the throne - Nol lounges behind her, seated on the arm of the throne. It's HER throne, he's not even trying to take it from here - it feels SO VERY Shinae in charge so HONESTLY? I totally get why it gives you CEO Shinae vibes. Even if Nol does somehow end up in the family business (and listen I'm still pretty leery of that for now) there's this remaining sense that SHE'S in command, they aren't competing. in fact, if anything, Nol is her back up. He lounges out behind her like a cat on her shoulder, his arm draped over her shoulder connecting them. His gaze is as intense as hers!!!!! I've always felt that a lot of quim's illustrations DO have some kind of implication, whether it's just telling us a dynamic between characters, a tone, or what, and this one just feels SO LOADED. Every time I think about Nol and Shinae as a unit, as a team, as having each other's backs. The fact that Nol LITERALLYYYYYYY has her back!!!!!!!! That feeling that he would sic you, if she so commanded it? I keep going back and forth on what I expect to happen at the hospital, because 3 remaining days IS a lot! I'm really torn on if I think Yui is going to be. It feels like it, right? It feels like it's building up to it, but part of it is because Yui is grappling for control, she needs to reign it back in and part of that involves finding Rand and/or Nol. But I keep thinking about like.... what purpose does it serve? Does Yui wield any power over other hospitals? The obvious and therefore most unlikely is that of course she'd find him and do something to harm him, but.... idk. I don't think Yui really wants Nol dead. She lives to torture him, she's like a sadistic cat with the half-dead mouse it's plays with til it exhausts itself and dies. She wants to instill fear in him. He's probably not on Nol's emergency contacts so no receptionist would just.... let her in and see him - but we're also talking about a person who could pay off anyone so it's like... are they likely to stand their ground against her? There's something very sinister and scary to me about Yui showing up where Nol is injured - though he's not totally bed-ridden but. Still. She didn't like his insolence the night before, but what kind of scene can she make in a public place? The other thing is, I can't imagine Nana leaving his side and if she WERE to leave his side, I imagine she would ensure SOMEONE, one of Nol's friends, are there to keep watch. Nana is no fool - she has a witch hunting book. She knows that Yui is relentless. So I've considered even IF Yui were to show up, Nol wouldn't be there alone, isolated. He'd have people there at his defense, and we know Nana is a great force against Yui already. We've seen Shinae stand up for him time and time again.

If anything, because this is meant to be setting things up for us to move into our timeskip, maybe it would be a "face off" for them, with Yui trying to remind Nol he better stay in line, lest anything "bad happen" (IMPLICATIONS) and Nol showing he is no longer that meek, scared little boy, that the power she holds over him isn't what it used to be. Of course, he was pretty drunk at the party the night before but I think a lot of the resolve remained. He jumped into that pool and came back Nolan, no longer Yeonggi. Maybe it would set up for the future that he is not to be underestimated. Nol officially entering the match~

I contemplate if I think Rand will show up at all. I feel like... when he left, it felt kind of final? He had made his decision - he had let enough harm befall his son, he doesn't deserve him after any of this. He's been a terrible father, he couldn't protect them, but at least he now has people in his life, people who have been for him what Rand couldn't be. But also.... I'm not satisfied with that and i wish rand would show up even if it's just to apologize. I know Nol isn't in the place to accept it or even believe his father loves or cares about him but I want Rand to at least make the effort. Even if Nol won't accept it. Especially if Nol won't accept it. Just fucking put it out there! Say the things you never do!!!!! Tell him how fucking SCARED you were when you saw his body in the snow bleeding out a pool of blood. How terrified you were and how you knew it was your failure. The pool was just mere HOURS before! Like, TWO? THREE TOPS?

Whatever Rand says can't and won't make up for anything but... especially because the theme of heart attacks continues to surround Rand, I want him to say it while he has the chance. I want him to admit his failings but also I want him to tell Nol what he means.

fljafjafjkjfka ;__________; I have such complicated feelings about them. Like. Like Kousuke, Nol does not require Rand's validation or love. But they deserve to know it, to see it, even if just once. Just to know it was real. Just to know that despite it all.

Part of me also wants Rand to visit just so Nol can really see: that could be his future. Maybe subconsciously become a warning to himself that he cannot continue to isolate himself, lest he become that husk of a man.

(I wonder if Alyssa even knows. Like. It sounds like news coverage was hush hush, at least about the involved parties. Nol isn't reaching out to her. Unless LMAO Rand does? Or god forbid Yui does. I absolutely think you're right, and especially as a non-shipper your insight is even less biased. It's funny because I am a person who always hated "toxic relationships" but I think what I hated was that often a female character was denied agency and she was often in love with (told but never explicitly shown in a way that makes you understand it) him despite how much of a jerk he is how he purposefully hurts her or doesn't respect her feelings. And I think that idea really snowballed and became a much bigger umbrella to things that don't apply. Nol definitely can be seen as being "toxic" although I wouldn't categorize him that way. When he has hurt Shinae, we've seen that it affects/hurts him, too. The sheer guilt he went through after their confrontation outside of his school that had him RETCHING. I think, yeah, if you aren't a pure cinnamon roll, there's a big chance you might get written off as toxic. Now, don't get me wrong. Stalkyoo is clearly the majority popular ship of ILY and has been for a long time, but when people try to pit Dieter vs Nol, that's how it largely feels. Like saying that because Nol is going through it, he's going to be a bad partner.

Like, first of all, never mind that knowing feelings doesn't immediately mean dating. But also.... idk it starts to rub me weird and I think we start to see a LOT of weird ableism. Cos right, Nol is so bad because he's SOOO unstable and thus Dieter is better - but like you said, they think nothing of Shinae's own baggage. It's not just about the male partner, it's about HER, too. We could even argue that Shinae having baggage would create issues for her and Dieter. That doesn't make them impossible. But we've seen that Nol and Shinae are getting better at handling each others' baggage, too. When she tried to run away after he climbed up to the roof to join her, he knew to stop her, because he knew it was Shinae shrinking in on herself, feeling vulnerable and exposed and wanting to run away from the situation instead of face it. Shinae is calling him out more and more. And after 231, which I assume you've read but I'll still keep it vaugue, I think we're seeing that even though Nol has been pushing her away, that part of his resolve is starting to break. He's figuring out his feelings and what they mean to feel them, to share them.

Idk it's just. Right lmao you're very right about all of it! I think there was this really big push about toxic relationships and wanting to see healthier relationships in media, especially YA books, right? To see fewer asshole male leads and more wholesome relationships. There's nothing wrong with that, I LOVE that! But that's the thing about Nol and Shinae - like you said. Relationships ARE work. They're SUPPOSED to be. You're constantly having to match yourself with your partner, to understand and meet their needs. Hashing things out early helps figure out your dynamic, if it's worth it. Arguing ISN'T bad. It doesn't mean "this is an ill fit relationship". It only is when neither of them resolve to change, when neither of them can accommodate the other. And I think we've seen that Shinae is VERY willing to accommodate, and I think we've seen enough of Nol's want vs resolve (he always caves; EVERY TIME he gives in and goes to her) will wear down. It's so inherently tied to his self-image but that's not an eternal thing.

Talking about one being more stable than the other just reeks of ableism. I hate the adage that you'll never be able to be loved until you can learn to love yourself. It's GROSS, it's stupid!!!!!! Sometimes people see in us the things we can't see until they illuminate it, until they help us see that thing in ourselves, and THAT is Nol and Shinae to me. It's Nol seeing in her someone who is so scared and insecure who doesn't believe in herself and just needed encouragement, just needed a little nudging, just needed to be believed in. Look HOW MUCH she's grown since we met her, how much she's come around!!!!!!! He illuminated something in her she couldn't see. And I think that's what Shinae's persistent love and care for Nol is. He is so convinced he's unloveable, that he's this monster, that he brings harm to those he loves, but she's so persistent I think it can't help but wear down that resolve. Can't help but give him some hope. To think maybe, maybe, if anyone can find it in him, it's her. That maybe if she can see it, he might one day, too?

Relationships are about GROWING TOGETHER. It's not come back when you're "healthy" and "recovered" or whatever that means. Like, yeah, there are circumstances that will stand in the way of Shinae and Nol being in a relationship - but it's not about their "mental states". aljfkjafkjaf this is a whole other essay but lmao I JUST HAVE SUCH STRONG FEELINGS like I don't hate people shipping Shinae and Dieter! I love them, too! I enjoy them as a pairing. Yeah, Stalkyoo is my OTP but it doesn't stop me enjoying other pairings. I just hate when people try to make it about who is "better" and by better than mean "mentally healthier" or that relationships that require effort and work are somehow inherently unhealthy and toxic. At the end of the day, anyway, it's about who Shinae loves. Who lights her up, who makes her feel that spark, who she WANTS to put that effort into. She could easily decide that yeah, loving Nol is a fight she doesn't want to have, that she doesn't have the endurance for it. But that still doesn't make it a toxic pairing - it just means it wasn't right for her.

Okay I know this response is like SO LATE lmao but I'll tell you anyway what I EXPECTED to happen. I thought Yui already knew of Simhan - what he looked like and stuff like that, but it felt felt much like she didn't quite know until the details started to come in and the DREAD was just HEAVY in my stomach I was just screaming and climbing walls during their meeting. All the information! Just like that!!!! Right into the palm of their hands!!!! AND!!!!! They can lead her to Nol. GOD it's so unnerving and stressful how easily she could just gather all of that and I am TERRIFIED. The ominous image of Simhan trapped in the beer bottle is just back to HAUNT MEEEEEEEEE. I don't doubt that's where it's going - or at least that he'll be tempted towards it. It's definitely going to be a battle but I don't want to see things fall apart again. :( Earlier I'd wondered if that might be what lead Shinae to HAVING to rely on Yui's offer, against her better wishes. But now that Rand is convincing Shinae to do it.... idk. Maybe it still will be? I hope not. I DO want to see things go well. I DO want the Yoos and the Parks to be a family, for Minhyuk to be the big brother he's been, for them to know PEACE and not have to struggle and fight and claw their ways to stay afloat AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
