hearing that there is a planned sequel to Labyrinth makes me mad for at least 2 different reasons. For one, I absolutely love the original film and thought it worked wonderfully as just a stand alone movie. It is such a charming movie drenched in 80s cheese that I do not think can be recreated and shouldn’t be. It seems that so many films nowadays are banking off of nostalgia to make a quick buck without any respect for the original source material. I also doubt they are going to go the Return to Labyrinth book route with the movie.
On the other hand, I am pissed because I have had a Next Gen Labyrinth fic in my google docs since 2017 that I have never posted that has always been my personal headcanon of events if a Labyrinth sequel ever happened! It followed Sarah’s daughter accidentally getting sent to the Labyrinth and meeting the new Goblin King. Very beauty and the beast/enemies-to-lovers/phantasmagoria vibes full of fae and goblins and, of course, a big sparkly dress at a lavish ball sequence.

Am I just a delusional shipper or does this feel like it should have been a thing?
Spoilers for Gargoyles (1972) ahead.
Tumblr media
"Go on, your voice pleases me."
"'The sin was not my own, but forced upon me by the incubus; who overnight did slip into my bedchamber and taunt and seduce me with demon's promises until I was as if on fire. He was of uncommon height and finely built. A devil's face of frightful beauty that did put me in a spell. I had no will of my own, but did let the incubus do his will until I was driven mad.'"
Those are actual lines out of the movie. I didn't paraphrase. At all. I played the scene where she was reading out of the book, and typed every word she said. This is a movie about demons who "sometimes take human women" who are trying to conquer the world. Also, in this movie, the gargoyles with wings are the breeders. This one says as much. He was basically the leader. His reaction to being told that he's lost is literally, "Not as long as there are two winged breeders."
Tumblr media
Also, the way the gargoyle acts when he first sees Diana just SCREAMS "shipping fuel". If this were written in the modern day, they would have done it. You can't convince me otherwise. You know why I say that?
BECAUSE THE 90s DID IT!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't care that these two stories have nothing to do with one another. This is a really good comparison. And, even if it wasn't, I have plenty of fuel for this fire. (I don't even need my usual go-to of vampire movies to prove this point.)
Diana and The Gargoyle fit into two categories that I love and frequently ship. Hero/Villain (though I guess this is more damsel/villain) and Human/Monster. I'm going to give examples from both categories that I will die shipping. (They overlap quite a bit, actually.)
Jareth the Goblin King x Sarah Williams
Tumblr media
Katara x Prince Zuko
Tumblr media
Rey x Kylo Ren/Ben Solo
Tumblr media
Vlad Dracula x Mina Murray/Mina Harker
Tumblr media
Erik x Christine Daaé
Tumblr media
Batman/Bruce Wayne x Catwoman/Selina Kyle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elisa Esposito x The Amphibian Man
Tumblr media
Catherine Chandler x Vincent
Tumblr media
So, with all that context in mind,
DOES THIS REALLY LOOK LIKE THAT MUCH OF A STRETCH?!?!

Life is short, I’m going to be Jareth the Goblin King for Halloween this year. And everyone will gag on my ELEGANZA! -Hux
Though I may not be a combat trooper, I like to consider myself a brave man. All the same, I will NOT be googling whatever "eleganza" means.
Still, I hope you have fun. I'm almost done with my Snoke costume, so let me know if you need any shiny, gold fabric. I have plenty leftover.

You know, I should probably have written the Susurrus/First Tanta AU before I wrote the epilogue, but I did not. Gonna share that epilogue, though, because I enjoy what I've done and I want to share :)
Cuff murmured in his sleep, a sleep that was apparently fitful and riddled with nightmares. Frey debated waking him up, but before she could get far in that thought, he gasped a name and she felt his consciousness return with a start.
"Astra!"
"Hey," Frey said to catch his attention and help pull him out of that nightmare. "It's just us here. You good?"
"Good...? I... Was I asleep?" Cuff asked. Frey guessed she hadn't given him enough time to come back to Athia. There was a lingering feeling of panic in his voice, probably the last shreds of whatever dream he'd been having.
"You had a nightmare."
"Did I? I wasn't even aware that I could dream."
"Really? Huh. Learn something new every day." Frey considered waiting for him to finish coming out of that nightmare, but she knew if she waited too long he'd clam up and she'd never get an answer. So: "Who's Astra?"
"I, I don't... I don't know. I don't remember. She was... important to me, once. My whole world, it... revolved around her, I think." He hissed, a pain in his voice that Frey couldn't figure out. There wasn't anything around to hurt him. "Ah, what is this emptiness...?"
Oh. That kind of pain. Was Cuff in love once? Man, that must have been a long time ago, if he'd forgotten who she was. And, somehow, just knowing he had loved someone made Frey regret asking. Like she'd pried into something private she had no business sticking her nose in.
"Never mind," Cuff said before Frey could figure out if she wanted to say anything. He sounded back to his usual sharp attitude, and made a sound like he was clearing a throat he didn't even have. "How close are we to Rheddah?"
"See for yourself," Frey offered, her eyes fixed on the horizon where she could see the leading edge of land. It looked nothing like the Visorian coast they'd set out from. Nothing like Praenost, Avoalet, or Junoon, either. Athia was bordered by jagged and rocky cliffs, and beaches of black sand that Cuff said were the result of the land Breaking.
Rheddah looked a thousand times worse. Even from here, miles from shore, Frey could see Break glowing against the setting sun. Black, twisted strands and spires rose into the air, clawed at the sky and shredded the clouds passing overhead to ribbons.
She counted at least three structures that looked horribly like the Tree of Offering.
"Are those what I think they are?" Cuff asked, something caught between awe and horror in his voice.
"I really, really hope not," Frey admitted. "I don't think I can handle three more of you."
"There's only one me, Frey," Cuff scoffed. But he hesitated, and his next words wavered with doubt. "I think."

Apparently there’s talks of a Labyrinth sequel and I need Alice Waddington to direct it
Please go look at her work on paradise hills, she’d perfectly capture the fantasy aesthetic of Labyrinth

Labyrinth 2 and 3 The Prequels
Generations love Labyrinth, the 1986 musical fantasy film directed by Jim Henson; they can’t get enough of it. There’s comics, novels, merchandise and more… But new fans who can’t get enough of the Henson classic may be unaware that intentionally (or unintentionally) there’s already prequels of sorts awaiting their viewing. Back when music television was king, David Bowie released many Labyrinth…

rewatching the second hellraiser and am interested in the specific “it is not hands that call us, it is desire” line, which makes it pretty clear that tricking someone into opening the box for you doesn’t mean that this person is doing the calling
which in the new one is very much what does happen, even down to the idea that someone can trick multiple people into getting taken by the box, but arguably a much bigger game is being played there and those unfortunates are “just” part of the original person’s overall choice (the bad guy secretly wants to become a cenobite as a way to gain ultimate power, the lead “chooses” grief/lamentation, and through that the ability --  or maybe trial -- to live with her choices)
so slight but significant differences in lore (of course in the first hellraiser kirsty opens the box by accident and is still considered fair game, so it’s got a bit of choose yer own adventure)

So now that the Gilded Family AU is on hiatus to the next TOH episode, will you be writing something new or continue other projects? Btw I absolutely loved the aroace Hunter snippet (you’re feeding us well with that amazing aroace Hunter content!) and your request one-shots in general!
Right now, I'm trying to burn through all the requests that have been sitting in my inbox since forever, maybe open them up again once I finish (for a limited number, though, I think I've learned my lesson on opening them up for an unspecified # of requests) to get some more prompts, but uhhhhh yeah, right now I don't have any huge projects planned. I might start writing those individual Grimwalker stories like I said, orrrrr there's a couple of whump ideas floating around in my head that haven't been fully fleshed out yet, but they're marinating in there.

Labyrinth books (Sequel and fanfiction)
OK, so I had this idea a couple months ago back in like August, and at the time I had just watch the movie Labyrinth with the handsome David Bowie, and I had read somewhere that they were going to make a sequel or it, but I had the idea for a different storyline then what they would probably do. I also had the idea for a fanfic. I already have stated writing both of them.
Story summary for the sequel book:
Years have passed since Sarah left the labyrinth. But when someone wished her daughter away to the Labyrinth, Sarah must go back. But when the mother-daughter duo find themselves up against someone different then Jareth. Sarah relives everything she went through from her teens, along seeing some old friends. Who is the new ruler and will Sarah and her daughter make it home.
Story summary for the fanfiction:
Regan is a young woman with a small family, When a big fight breaks out with her and her parents. When Regan yells out the magic words. As her parents try to get her back, Regan slowly starts to feel at home in the castle with Jareth. When her parents make it to her, she must decide if she wants to go back with her parents or stay with Jareth and be by his side for eternity. What will she chose?
